  • Hi, i started 5:2 yesterday and have reLly struggled. I am only a little bit over m healthy weight – about 3kg. I ate a light lunch of 2 poached eggs. At 6pm I was reLly ready for food. I had smoked salmon and loads of veg. Had the full 500 calories overall. I don’t feel I could have easily waited longer to eat because I was pretty light headed by then.
During the night I hardly slept. My body felt really tight and painful. I was cold, restless, uncomfortable. I got up for a hot drink at one point and then slept again for two hours. I now feel really nauseous and weak, absolutely wrung out, i am going to break my fast with a simple bowl of porridge and will make sure I have my full calories for today in healthy ways. But i am working all day and worried by this weakness. I am shakey and light headed.
I can’t imagine going through this again in a few days time. What did I do wrong?! How can I eat in the next few days to better prepare myself? I am not massively overweight, I eat well. Why has it hit me so hard? My husband did it with me and he also couldn’t sleep last night. We really would have struggled to eat later though.
Sorry this is so long! I really want to do this as a lifestyle change so your advise and support would be a huge help. Thank you.

It gets easier. The first day your body doesn’t know what to expect. I’ve found the following works for me:

    * drinking as much black coffee and water as I feel like in the mornings

    * bowl of soup for lunch. Usually a supermarket one with lentils or something else filling.

    * more water during the afternoon

    * a cup/bowl of miso soup in the evening or a small bowl of cornflakes if I am ravenous.

This keeps me around the 500 calorie mark.

Hi, it really does get easier. Some days will be harder than others. Water and plenty of fluid will help. I always make sure I’m drinking loads of water. Hope your next day goes better, try and stick with it. It really does work. Good luck 🙂
