  • Hi all,
I initially started in March and managed to fast for 2 separate days one week and lost 4 lbs. I was delighted and found it relatively easy. However since then I have not been able to do it and it is extremely frustrating. Of course the 4 lbs went on again.
Now today I thought I was strong enough willed to give it another go. I had a bowl of porridge about 10am and managed through till 4pm with herbal teas. If I had cooked my omelette and salad then it would have been okay but I went for the choccy biscuits with a vengeance and ate the entire packet! On top of that I had a meal in the evening.Help!
I so want to do this for my health’s sake.

Don’t beat yourself up over your evening slip; congratulate yourself on the fasting period earlier! Take baby steps. You made it 6 hours, now try to go 7. Also, it is easier for some, like me, to start the fast after the evening meal, so that you are fasting while sleeping!

So, if you eat dinner tonight at 7pm, try skipping breakfast. Have a coffee or tea, and a cup of broth. Have an Apple. A fast doesn’t have to be hard and fast . Make it work for you. I have to eat an Apple or a couple of crackers to take my meds. It hasn’t hurt my weight loss at all.

If you can eventually go 16 hours between dinner and your first meal of the day, then you will be well on your way to a complete fast period. Because 500 calories after that can be easily reached.

Point is, we all eat that bag of cookies or that bowl of ice cream. So what? We just try harder or try a different way next day. Practice makes perfect! You will get it before too long!

Thank you for the encouraging words. It certainly makes a difference. This morning I had lemon juice in warm water before going for a 1.5 hour brisk walk. I don’t feel remotely hungry and it is already 11.20 am. I felt like having a cup of coffee (with a little milk) so I have indulged myself. I plan to have my porridge at 1pm. Then we’ll see how it goes. Will try to select fruit if I cannot last until dinner at 5.30pm. Funnily enough I can go all evening without food – no problem. Feeling much more positive today thanks to your reply.

That’s great! Sometimes it just takes a little tweaking to get it right.

And honestly, I drink my coffee with non- dairy creamer and sweetener every day, all day. I just refuse to drink it black! And dressing with my salads. No harm done. Some count every single thing. I can’t do that! And my fat is burning off just fine!

Keep up the good work, and I’ll see you on the skinny side!

fitnfast – you seem to have it sussed out. Good for you. I still struggled at the end of the day yesterday. However, next week is a new week. I refuse to give up! Will take a break and try to fast on Sun and Wed. Perhaps, because my weak point seems to be between 4pm and 7pm, I should just have one decent sized meal at that time on a fast day. I’ll try that and see how I get on. Thank you for your replies. Your success is keeping me going. Normally I would give up and eat even more.

Glad to help, because it helps me too!

The hours after dinner time are scientifically proven to be the prime time for snacking and overeating. Think it has to do with hormones in our body (eating type hormones, not the other kind!)

If you are in for some interesting reading on how we gain/lose weight, etc, check out the blogs on Intensive Dietary Management. He is a Dr in Canada who explains it SO well! I was amazed!

    Happy fast day to you!

Thank you so much for that. Will check it out. Happy fast day to you too!

Also, if you are interested, the June challenge has started. The monthly challenge really keeps me focused, and since you declare your goal to others, it tends to keep you in the groove.

The leader, Upagumtree, combined all our goals, and collectively, we are set to lose 104 lbs! I call it giving birth to a baby of pure fat, with everyone pitching in! Very motivating, like being on a team, and you just want to do your best! Join us if you want!
