  • Hi my first day today. Had been thinking a good while about trying the fast. After losing over 5 stone with a well known diet club i have lost motivation and i don’t want to be doing it every day. Thought this would be a better approach. Wish me willpower x

I have started the 5:2 diet this week, my first fast day was Monday which went well and my second fast day is today (Weds). Thanks so much to everyone for all the great comments on these forums, it is really encouraging! I have very much enjoyed reading through them all. I am looking to lose about 20 kilo so will keep you posted on my progress……

Hi – this is also my first day and I’m aiming to lose 44lbs – but want to do it sensibly and realistically so here I am!!! So far so good – had a nice brisk 6.2km walk this morning and a healthy Alpro yoghurt as a reward 🙂 I wish you all well and hope to hear how you’re all doing. X.

Hi all, tomorrow is my first day, I failed miserably last time I tried this diet, wish me luck for my 2nd attempt!

Today is my first day too! I also lost a lot of weight with a well known group/meeting based slimming company and now trying to teach myself what hunger actually is and try something new to maintain it! Totally lost interest in the old plan with the total different mindset of maintenance, not losing. I’ve planned exactly what I’m going to eat today and feeling positive about it already. 🙂 Good luck all! x

I completed my first Fast day yesterday, I did well. Even walked/ran for 30 minutes. I woke up this morning and weighed myself. Lost 2.8 lbs!!! Unfortunately my partner doesn’t need to lose weight but he has been wonderful with motivation, going to the gym with me, cheering me on my weight loss. Good Luck Y’all

GOOD LUCK to all the newbies!! I have been on the 5;2 since last Feb 1st ie 11 months so if you want any moral support give me a shout. I am now at maintenance (nearly) and happy that I lost over 2 stone. More importantly, the inches melted off me, so I found the tape measure was my friend. My blood pressure had reduced, and I am size 10/12 down from size 16. My body behaves the way I want it to now, in so far as when I want to loose weight I can. Previously the scales would not budge. But it does take lots of patience and time . Its a slow weight loss plan, and a way of life. Embrace it and you will have success!!

I’ve just started today..my first fast day. I have joined a slimming group so many times recently but just doesn’t work for me.

I have a couple of colleagues who did this 5:2 fasting with great success so here goes.

    Good luck to us all

Hi, I’ve started today as well. Looking to lose around 2 stone. I have a medical condition affecting my stomach and will be put on the FODMAP diet by the hospital when my appointment with the hospital dietician comes through. I’m hoping the 5:2 will give me a kick start before I start the FODMAP. Has anyone been put on the FODMAP plan and can offer any advice?

Thanks and good luck to everyone 🙂

    Hello Everyone,
I’m a 51 year old woman with 7 stone to lose. Today is my first day. I’ve decided to do this because although I want to lose weight, I’m really impressed with metabolic improvements that the evidence indicates occurs adopting this way of eating. Good luck to everyone who is starting this week as well.

So how did the first days go? I was pleasantly surprised, I did my usual Wednesday night yoga class and felt great for it! I feel as though I’m not even that hungry today either, but I’m going to eat as normal anyway. Next fast day is Monday, so hoping for another success. 🙂

Hi 🙂 Well my first day (and fast day) went very well. Must admit I was quite hungry when I went to bed but fell asleep quickly!!!

Resisted the temptation to get on the scales this morning and I’m eating normally today – and enjoying my food much more 🙂

Went for another 6km walk this morning and my legs are now aching somewhat!!! Trying to decide when to do my second fast day – Friday or Monday. Any advice??

Good luck to all of us x.

I’m steering away from Fri/Sat/Sun for fast days as I know there will be too much temptation! Going with Monday and Wed/Thurs as I have things on in the evenings to keep me away from food. Hehe

I enjoy all the newbies, like myself, and reading your goals and the positive thoughts of the 5:2 fast diet! I too will keep you updated on my progress, its nice to know how everyone is doing, that’s motivation for me!!

My 2nd day of fasting this week!!

Feeling great so far, lots of energy, and having the best sleep ever at night!!

    Good luck everyone!!

I am on my second Fast Day and I haven’t eaten since 7:00 last night and not feeling hungry at all and a cardio and strength training at the gym at 4:30 AM. I’m hoping I will be able to eat half my calories at lunch time with my co-workers. Is it safe to just not eat if I am not hungry? The flexibility of eating the 500 Calories at home with my boyfriend is always an option. Maybe a stupid question but do you HAVE to eat on your fast days?

My first day was yesterday, I did ok. I can’t (and won’t) kick my tea habit so most of my calories were tea related, no sugar just milk, and a nice bowl of cabbage soup. Yes I’ve tried that one before too. I wasn’t hungry until fist thing this morning and then my hunger pangs went away after a drink. I think I like this plan and hopefully I can shift my 30 kilos in the next year or so.
I lost a lot with a high protein/low carb diet before but realised that it was detrimental to my health and I gained nearly all of it back when I reintroduced carbs.
Fingers crossed and will power at max, this time it will work.

Is it weird that I don’t want to weigh myself frequently? I want to see the effects not read them on a scale.

not weird at all – I am a bit of a scale-a-holic – the app encourages weighing every day but I do that anyway, regardless if I am following a diet plan or not!

    Good luck all !!

    Hi Pamela and welcome:
