    Hi. Very quick one as I am so tired. Had headache for 36 hours now. Back to work today. 10 hour day and the kids weren’t even in. Just so much to do. Should be doing exam analysis now but can’t face it. Will go in very early tomorrow to get stuff done that i need for tomorrow then try to do some analysis tomorrow night.
    Fasting tomorrow if headache gone.

    Hope your headache goes overnight. People think teachers have an easy job with all the holidays… not like that these days, I couldn’t do it!

    Hello! I’ve only just signed up, I’m on my second week of 5:2. Today was a fast day, this morning was tough, but it’s gotten easier as the day has gone on, which is funny because it’s normally the opposite and it’s the evenings where I struggle. Looking forward to a nice dinner tomorrow!

    Rowen. .how horrible about your bike. When something like that happens I find myself unable to believe it….I keep going to check (I even wonder if i’ve put it somewhere else and forgotten!)… it feels so horrible to think someone would do that. And the consequences are always more than anyone would think.

    OH away this week so it’s just simple cooking for the boy and me…perfect for a couple of FDS. ..ha ha!

    How ever did I manage my haddock and chips last night on a FD.. and at a new restaurant it was delicious..a good send off..

    Morning everyone

    Yesterday’s FD seems to have gone well for everyone, hope I have the same success today. Minols, I’m with you. Only my second FD in about 3 months, so it’s going to be interesting. Trying to hit the water today as it’s something I always struggle with so making a concerted effort.

    Jean & Steve, I’m sure you’ll have a fabulous holiday and manage to find the sun which has disappeared here of late.

    Great to see new people joining. After having a bit of a break I’m hoping to repeat the losses I had when I first joined in January.

    Going to try and keep busy today preparing daughter’s bedroom for decorating. She was meant to be helping, but has run out of steam after the initial enthusiasm.

    I have 2 small pots on my windowsill. I put 10 pebbles in one and each time I have a glass of water I transfer a pebble from one to the other so at the end of the day I know how many glasses I have drunk… it helps me visualise..

    Audrey, you must be feeling better jumping off the scales :). Good trick with the water, I do a similar thing with going up the stairs. I work at my laptop all day, so every hour or so I try to move a bit. I go up the stairs and I have 10 coins on the windowsill to keep track of how many times I went up. I started with 3 and now I can get to 7 without huffing and puffing.

    Jean – have a lovely holiday and don’t worry about fasting, you’ll have plenty of time for it when you come back.

    Lynne, have a great fast day, you can do it! Cheering you on 🙂 Water is so good, I don’t think I’d get through my day without it. Audrey’s idea is good, so you know how much you are drinking 🙂

    Geo, I do that at work with the stairs. I sit for the majority of the day, but make an effort to go upstairs (even if I don’t need to) several times in the morning/afternoon lol 🙂 It all helps 🙂

    Once I am better I need to start trying to exercise again at the moment the treadmill is like a clothes horse!..

    I have a terrible headache this morning, I suspect I didn’t drink anywhere near enough on yesterdays fast day. I’m waiting for my painkillers to kick in whilst I go through my emails and then I’ll go get breakfast – hoorah!

    Since it’s so early in the game for me I’m guessing 5:2 must work since you’re all on here but are there any success stories, hints and tips etc that anyone can give to a newbie?

    Audreyg- I’m in Suffolk, 48 (how did that happen?!), do part time voluntary work. I’ve had health problems for the last 3 years so not been able to exercise, and put on 2 stone because of that. I had a go at 5:2 18 months ago, but didn’t lose anything except for 1st week, so am trying ADF this time, or at least 4:3 if the weekends get to hard! And hopefully now some health things are sorted I can do a bit more exercise!
    @Pseudonym- there’s loads of low-cal recipes you can trawl through online (on a non fast day!).
    Has anyone read Jacqueline Whitehart’s 5:2 recipe book? I’ve found quite a few recipes in there I like (sweet potato chilli, watercress falafel…)
    I feel just as hungry today and it’s not a FD ?!!

    I initially lost 25 lbs 2 years ago for my daughter’s wedding but sadly have now regained it all..

    I haven’t been sticking to the rules I have been overeating on my non fast days. I try to stick to 1200 to 1400 on non fast days but haven’t been logging all my food so it has slowly crept back on..

    I am hoping that once my back is better I will jump back in and start losing again. When I lost my weight I lost about 1.5 lb a week. It’s not fast but it works.. you just have to realise it’s a change of life not a diet! Something I forgot.. .

    Nope, I’ve done my research and saw it was more a way of life. Do you think it’s possible to get away with going out to eat/socialise once a week, on a non fast day, and still lose weight if you’re doing it properly the rest of the time?

    Hedgehogs – The recipe book definitely sounds worth a look – thanks for suggesting it. I suspect I’ll start running out of ideas very quickly even though I have been hunting about online. 🙂

    Just had a look at the book on Amazon, are there photos with the recipes? My eyes tend to glaze over with black and white recipes books with no pics.

    Of course you can go out once in a while and enjoy yourself you have to enjoy life too. Just try to stay low for a couple of days the rest of the week.

    A lot of use my fitness pal to log food and tend to use the TDEE on there as our non fast day calorie amount as It’s more realistic.

    I’ve just worked out the calorie content of my usual lunch (as I’m non-fast day) to make sure I don’t go over the TDEE- peanut butter on toast with sliced banana- nearly 500 calories! I knew that peanut butter was fattening, obviously, but had never weighed the amount I have before now…oops!

    Im back from my hectic weekend away and now that the routine is back to normal Im doing a reset and starting afresh. I did well before but then let myself go and didnt incorporate it into my way of life. No matter, I know it works when you do it properly so here we go. 🙂

    And today is a FD, which today means a pure fast and zero calories.
    So I think thats 3 of us fasting today.

    Lynne, Im with you for a restart too. Hope sorting out the bedroom keeps you busy.

    Keep strong, today is over 65% done and if you are heading to bed about 10pm, as I am, that means just 25% of the day left to be mindful of what goes into your mouth!!
    And tomorrow, especially if you are fasting today, is a day where we can eat a bit more 🙂

    Remember this is entirely doable as long as we remain in control. Which we will, because we want this to work dont we???

    Just finished my 10th glass of water, probably more than I’ve drink cumulatively in months. I don’t really like the taste, but manage if I use a straw.

    Audrey, I’ve just put 2 mason jars on the kitchen unit and dug in my purse for some coins. I am a very visual person so hopefully this will be the incentive I need. Currently drinking a glass an hour and aiming to stop when I eat supper this evening so I’m not back and forth the smallest room all night.

    Dusted the cobwebs off MFP as well, so no excuses. Tomorrow may go a bit over though as we always took the children out for food after their first day back at school. Started 16 years ago when Hannah started nursery with a Happy Meal, and escalated from there. We can’t go out any longer, but may have a takeaway as an incentive to get Rebecca through her first day in Year 11. She’ll need something, she’s not a morning person so tomorrow morning is going to be a challenge.

    Minols, hope you’ve managed to keep strong.

    Kay, lovely to have you back and great someone else is looking to reset alongside me.

    May have gone a little over – pinched a couple of Phil’s chips, but really pleased with how well today has gone, especially managing to drink over 2L of water.

    Hi All – not done too badly today. I was a bit disappointed when I got the boy to the pool for his lesson only to discover that there was no other swimming due to maintenance. I considered relaxing in the café…but we know where that would end up! So instead I went to the Tesco across the road and stocked up on detergents and fruit (?!)
    Can’t say I’ve been perfect, though, but not bad, and a reasonable amount of exercise built in to the day.
    Not sure I’ll get another FD in this week, but I should be able to keep reasonably low.

    one thought for the newbies – yes, 5:2 does work, but I reckon that part of why it works is because of the ‘feasting’ – I think our bodies need to think there is plenty of food out there, otherwise they go into starvation mode! Also, I try to steer clear of ‘diet’ foods or low-cal foods, trying to go for whole foods and fat over sugar. Having said that, I am the world’s biggest junk food foodie…so what do I know!!!

    Hi. Still got headache. Went to bed at 9 last night. Was awake by 1 and didn’t go back to sleep. Goodness knows how I went to work.
    Didn’t fast as felt so ill. Healthy choices though.
    Off to bed now after watching Dr foster. Praying for a better night.
    Need to lose some inches as my school clothes don’t fit! !!

    And I agree, steer clear of food labelled diet and fat free, as they are normally higher in sugar, which is the thing we need to be avoiding.

    Hedgehogs, I dont always do zero calories but I often find it easier to not eat at all rather than limit myself to 300/400 cals. I also like the feeling of giving my body a complete rest.
    Im aiming to do one of each per week at the moment.

    Can someone remind me of what we should be aiming for on non fast days…is it our TDEE or TDEE minus a certain %?

    Kay I use the TDEE on my fitness pal. Mine is 1300 on MFP but 1700 on here! I think Jean does the same..i may try for liquid only today Its a while since I did one!

    Rowena hope the headache has gone now. I know about snuggly clothes not a good feeling… luckily my winter clothes still fit me.

    Minols I too ignore slimming labels if I am having bread I want butter on it! I do have sweetener though. Although I am seriously thinking of changing back to sugar, I only have one brew a day on most days!

    Hi Audrey- hope you have a good day! Weather’s good here in Suffolk so hopefully can get a nice walk in- how’s your back, is it a long term thing?
    I’m aiming to not eat until dinner… will see how that goes!
    I managed to give up sugar in tea a couple of months ago- I can’t have sweeteners as they upset my bladder- weird- but don’t really like tea without sugar still! Have found that PG Tips red berries tea is sweet enough though, so will be having lots of that today and sparkling water.

    Kay, I tend to use the TDEE for my target weight rather than current weight when I actually take note of these things!

    I weigh daily, and after yesterday’s FD I’m down 1.1lb. I know a lot will go back today with a Chinese, but hopefully drinking plenty of water and not breaking my fast until after 12 will help.

    Hedgehogs, I gave up sugar in tea for Lent about 40 years ago. It was tough at first, but I kept drinking my usual volume. At the end of Lent I was really looking forward to a cuppa with my usual 2/3 spoons, but after the first sip realised I preferred the unsweetened taste.

    I’ve just checked my weight tracker and I’m down now to the same weight as I was this time last month. The next 2lb will take me back a further month and this is going to be my approach until I hit my lowest weight for a few years which was in early June, before Phil went into hospital. Once I’m there I’ll feel like I’m back on track.

    So glad I’m in good company for the September reset.

    Just stick with 5.2 for now, when your weight loss starts to slow down then you can swap to 4 3.

    I do 5 3 because it fits in with Ian’s work pattern he works 4 on 4 off…

    Hedgehogs I have arthritis and spondylosis in my spine plus fused vertebrae’s in my neck. Also arthritis in hands! Have injections in spine every 3 -6 months for pain relief…

    Hope everybody is ok, I have a friend popping by today so should keep me busy and away from food, hopefully.

    Audrey- your back problems sound very painful- I have no will power when I’ve been in pain!
    Have done well today- despite getting a parking fine in the post- grr- which would be something I’d have a bar of chocolate for but not today!

    Lynne, thats exactly what Im aiming to do, back paddle to lowest weight, then Im back on track.

    Ive only had 400 cals so far today, so plenty left for a decent healthy meal later, ahead of my 2nd FD tomorrow.

    Ive just been playing around with the TDEE calculators on here and on MPF and they are quite close, just 60 cals difference. I need to check what my FitBit says too as a comparison.
    You have to remember that MFP factors in a deduction on calories, so to see your actual TDEE, you need to set your goal to maintain weight. At least that seems the logical thing to do to me.
    MFP has me down as needing to stick to 1200 per day, which is 8400 x 7 days.
    Here, my TDEE is 1520, so if you add up 5 days at that, plus 2 days of 380 (one quarter of TDEE), it comes to 8360 over the 7 days, which is practically the same.

    Im going to keep my exercise level at sedentary as that kind of sums up my usual day with any exercise on top of that being a bonus!

    Safe but long journey about 18 hours..different flight to usual as more plans later..

    It’s beautiful weather here, warm and fluffy clouds, sat outside reading as coming around from the jet lag..

    Really pleased with Steve dropped his sugar and sweeteners from his drinks yesterday so hope he continues.. I carried my family bag of peanut treats in my bag, still unopened!! Well done to us both at the moment.. lol
    Someone else has eaten half his bag but better than normal.

    I opened up my e mails I had 30 this morning! Goodness me the threads very busy..

    Glad the newbies are still with us and doing well.. a few fasting today it will be nearly over for you well done… yesterday’s did great too..I have just told my daughter we are eating a lot less and we like smaller portions generally, hope it works.. but I will start doing some cooking when I get to the supermarket, we sort of share it out..

    P I think was asking about having a day off .. we always have Friday off after our weigh in, a meal out, bottle of wine to last over two days, a cake or treat..it’s creeping into a Saturday now but that has to stop… over a year I have lost 32 lbs and maintained that over nearly another year, a couple of pounds up and down… when back I really would like a push just for a few more pounds.. Steve has done 15 lbs and maintaining like me but he needs another stone off really..I must help him to move it.

    It’s a non fast day for me hooray! I have prepared a chicken and bacon casserole and it’s now in the slow cooker for the day.. made enough to eat one freeze one as a ready meal..

    I had a very good fast day yesterday and am happy to say I am now almost at my pre birthday weight. My back is doing ok, it’s really funny but the other side is aching now! I don’t know how to limp that way so am presently walking very strangely!

    DF have a good fast day and anyone else who is fasting.
