  • Hi – I am new to this and haven’t yet started but am working my way thru the book. One thing I wanted to ask (and this may be covered in the book so sorry if it is) is if the Fast Day is 24 hours (I guess?) – could it be started say Monday night at 7pm and finish at Tuesday @ 7pm.

Or does it have to be from when you get on Tuesday until Wednesday morning?

I hope that makes sense 🙂

Also, I feel that I would manage better if I had a very simple meals planned for my fast days and I stuck to them for a few weeks to get me ‘going’. If anyone can recommend a very simple meal plan for a ‘newbie’ then I would love to hear from you. I plan to do my Fast Days during the week at work so need something that will travel well and I could heat in a microwave if necessary?

    Thanks for reading

If you have your last meal on Monday at 7pm, then all Tuesday is your fast day (1/4 TDEE or less). Your fast ends 7am on Wednesday. So its a 36 hour window.

I have very simple eating habits. Most of the time I just have tuna or chicken salad for lunch. About 100g of tuna/chicken and just chop up any vegetables you want in the salad. Lettuce, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, chili (if you like) tomato, broccoli, cucumber. Add tofu if you like. Add apple cider vinegar for zest. Simple and very filling.

Hi, yes I go really simple too – just to keep me away from cook books and things! I roast vegetables, carrots, peppers, onion, zucchini etc the day before. I weigh out and measure for 2 portions. Then the next day I just take what I want and have them warm on top of salag with a squeeze of lemon or maybe heated with 100g chicken (unfortunately I don’t like tuna). It’s really filling and I really like it so…!
Today I’m fasting and I didn’t do that at all. I got caught out a bit and had prepared nothing. I dry fried 100g of sliced mushrooms, added a big fat tomato in wedges, lots of black pepper and then I piled it all on a slice of wholewheat toast. I also had a slice of ham! I have 260 left for tonight so that’s OK.
One piece of good advice given to me – weigh everything and calculate your calories for the first few weeks.
    Good luck!

losetogayn – that is a great idea of roasting veg the night before! Simple …why didn’t I think of that? 🙂 That will work out really well for me so thank you for your top tip!

    Enjoy your 260 calories tonight!

    Now to find my scales…

    Thanks again,

    Hi
I’m new too. Tomorrow will be my 4th FD. I have found it easier to save all my calories until tea time. Therefore I don’t have to worry about prepping anything in advance. I do my fasts on Tuesdays and Fridays as they are particularly busy work days for me when even before doing 5:2 I would generally not have time to eat between breakfast and tea. Now the difference is instead of stuffing my face when I get home I am having a low call meal and sticking to it. So far it seems to be working. I generally have had a large salad with lots of cucumber and salad leaves along with pepper, carrot and some sort of protein such as chicken. I will even have a small dessert of strawberries with quark (only 20 call for 30g) and cinnamon. Mmm! I just drink loads of water to keep me going…around 5-6 refills of my sports bottle which holds around 600ml.
