  • Hello,

Decided to give this a go as a result of the impressive results i,ve seen in other people. A bit confused however. I got the book from amazon as advertised on this website called Fast Beach diet but I don’t believe its one and the same thing as whats advocated generally??? As a newbie what is the best way to get going.

One of the reasons I think I may handle this well is that over the years I have genuinely fasted (only water) from time to time, purely as a means of giving the system a break. Is there any advantage with doing this on the fast days, say one of the two or should you always actually eat something.

    Help and guidance gratefully received

    Hi Stephen

It’s really up to you. The reason Michael chose the 500/600 calories a day was that it was a more acceptable way for more people (and it works).
I decided from the start that it was easier (for me) not to eat at all so that was the way I did it (and lots of others did also). Either way is OK, whatever feels best.
I lost 21kg over about 14 months, now stabilised for the last 4 months on 70kg. But since I stabilised I haven’t done water fasts (as I did for the first 14 months) and in a funny way I miss them. IF I commit myself to getting down to 65 (as I thought to originally) it will be back to water only.

so the long answer is that you decide, water only is fine and (I still believe) easier

    good luck

Hi Stephen! I am fairly new here too, although I did try 5:2 back in early 2013. I lost 7 lbs. in one month, almost painlessly. Why I stopped is beyond me, since I have so much to lose.

I highly recommend The Fast Diet by Dr. Mosley to begin with. The Fast Beach Diet is just meant as a short term boost to speed up weight loss for the summer, not a replacement for Dr. Mosley’s plan. But I heard it has lots of great tips so I ordered it. But Dr. Mosley and Mimi Spencer’s book The Fast Diet, is the one that started it all.

Welcome to the forum. I really like this forum better than the Facebook groups. It’s slower paced…which is just fine with me!

Thanks for all your help folks.

    Stephen
