  • Hi I’m reading the Fast Diet book before I start as I want to know exactly what I’m getting into & I’ve just read that a possible fast day can run from 2pm until 2pm the following day or 7pm to 7pm etc..you get my drift. I can’t decide whether that’s a good plan or not, has anyone else tried it that way? What seems to work for other people? I really appreciate any advice. Thank you

    Hi Lyndylou
I fast from midnight to midnight. I don’t eat after 8pm on the first day and only my 600 cals on the 2nd. After midnight on the 2nd day I still don’t eat till 9.30 on the next morning. I was already doing the diet before I read the Fast Diet book; I had bought another book first. So although I have just 600 cals, I divide them between 3 “meals” which I take at 12 mid-day, 4pm and 8pm. I eat exactly the same on every diet day, which is no problem because I’m hungry enough to enjoy it. Having the same each diet day means I don’t need to think about food that day, which helps me. I have lost 1.5 stone (21lbs), so it’s getting harder to lose more now but at least I’m not putting it back on and I find the diet gets easier anyway. I am also reaping the rewards, as exercise is easier now and I feel better in every way.
    My tips:
Drink real coffee made at home. I allow 1/2 cup of milk for all my tea and coffee on diet days. I like coffee strong and it makes me feel that I’ve eaten something.
I drink lots of water too and herbal teas. I don’t take sugar in any drinks. Every time you feel hungry have a drink. The hunger passes.
Keep busy. Make a list of jobs that will fill your time, preferably jobs that you like. I enjoy planning holidays and weekends away and booking hotels, trains, ferries, whatever.
My partner knows not to eat in front of me and that helps too.
I go for longer walks with the dog and I never go shopping on fast days.
It actually is not half as hard as you may think. Good luck!

Thank you for that Mark, very helpful. I can understand why you eat the same foods on fast days – I’ve been planning mine today & it took a while! It’s my first fast day tomorrow & I can’t wait to get started. I think I will end up eating similar foods on my two fast days, mainly to avoid wasting any food! Sounds like you’re doing really well, your weight loss is bound to slow down but keep at it – a maintain is far better than a gain
