  • All the best for weigh ins today. Success stories are already flowing. Well done one and all!!!
Thanks Tannybear, I was super happy with 1 kg loss as I was not expecting much loss (I dont know why)
Hey Go Gal….. Well done, so so so happy for you….I am sure you will hit your goal weight soon with your Determination. So Proud of you!
Yorkygirl65 , amazing loss, 1.8 kgs is too good. Are you exercising too?
Bali2015 Your hard work is really paying off well. 8 kgs loss in 6 weeks is amazing. I am sure people around would have started to notice the difference in you.
Countrygal, I am sure that all of us will have weeks with no loss, but good news is that there is no gain either. Clothes fitting better is such a good feeling. I love your understanding and attitude towards the whole thing.

Fridays are fun day here with so many success stories.

Good morning girls and boys! Some good results on the scales this week, well done to all! Countrygirl, that was me two weeks ago, but I perservered with my AUSSIE DETERMINATION…..my weight loss has really slowed down…but like you, my clothes are feeling much better, and I’ve even started a too big pile 🙂

Only 200 grams off this week. Feel a little disappointed, but know it’s my own fault as I ate and drank freely last weekend, and wasn’t that good during week either. Am scared I’m never going to get under 78kg….have hovered for so long between 78 and 82 …..six years! Going to do a 4:3 this week to try and break through……and be good on non-fast days….so am going to fast tomorrow (Sat) Monday & and Thursday…I just want to achieve my October goal if I can

    October Goal:
    SW 80.1 GW 77 CW 78.3 Lost 1.8 (60%) 24/10/2014

I’m with you Fatbuster….I look forward to hearing Fridays news. It gives me heaps of encouragement, not just the losses, but the struggles too, as we are all in this together to be a healthier version of US!

    Hi
Just though will post another recipe. well, its not a recipe as its so simple but something to satisfy sweet tooth on fast days or even Non fast days. It’s a Coffee Cheesecake!!!!!

Ok, if you already know how to make it then please excuse this post as I was super excited to have found something just around 55 cals that satisfies my sweet tooth.

    ok, so you need:

    – Philadelphia Cream Cheese Spreadable Tub, Extra Light mini tub 40 grams (52 cals)
    – Coffee (as per taste, i used half a teaspoon) – Negligible cals
    – a drop of vanilla essence (2 cals)(you can skip this if you dont have vanilla essence on hand)
    – Natural sweetener (I used Splenda) 1 tsp ( o cals)

    Method:
In a small bowl, Soften Cream cheese at room temperature and mix all above ingredients and………………eat it, 🙂 🙂 😉
    Yummmmm……

Its a small serve but I ate eat slowly and by the time I finished it I was satisfied and did not want another one. I guess its better than attacking bickies or cookies at weaker moments.
    Enjoy!!!

Hi FB what size tub is the Philly, mine is 250g so can you give me the gram weight. That sound like a yummy idea, thanks for sharing, be nice with a few strawberries…CG

Hi everyone! Another newbie here from Sydney. Wanting to lose around 10kgs and I’m on my second fast day today. Currently 80kgs and am excited on taking the leap with you all! 🙂

FB just reread your post, sorry…saw the gram weight…CG

    Hey Countrygal
You can get 40 grams mini tub from Woolies or Coles. they come in packs of 4.
Also, if you want chocolate cheesecake, just replace coffee with sugar free cocoa. and with strawberries will be delicious!!!

Welcome Netty1969, good to have you on board. You will find lots of support here. Good luck!

Yum…..that cheesecake recipe is great….thanks FB!

Hi everyone. I’m new here too and I’m so glad I found this Aussie thread! I’m really looking forward to reading about everyone’s diet adventures! This is my second week on the diet and so far have found it quite doable. At first I didn’t know if I’d be able to fast at work, as I’m constantly on the go but so far so good, although I couldn’t wait to eat my dinner as I was starving! Breakfast is just black coffee, a light salad lunch then fish and steamed vegies for dinner. I drink plenty of water/black tea which really keeps those hunger pangs at bay. Feeling excited and very positive 🙂

Hello everyone. Congratulations on some great losses! I,m with you this week, Countrygirl, no loss, but no gain either. I do feel like I’ve shrunk a bit though. Clothes are looser , and my reflection is looking a little more recognisable. I don’t like that other “stranger in the mirror”
Have a great weekend all, with lots of Determination!

Hi All Aussie Determinations, Welcome Netty1969 & Annie49, you will find great support on this forum. You have all done great, even those who have maintain their weight. Countrygal you are learning to eat healthy and that is so important. Well done Fatbuster and thank you for the recipe. Yorkygirl65 and Bali2015, what a great loss you both must be thrilled and Foxcoxy it all adds up in the end. I weighed myself today to come in line with all of you who weigh in on Fridays. I started 10 days ago, so my weight loss is more than a week, so my loss of 2.5kgs reflects that. I can’t wait till next Friday, as that will give me a true picture of how I am going. It is so exciting to hear from you all and how you all are going and love the recipe ideas. YD.

A little disheartened today – I managed to stay under 400Cal yesterday but the scales actually went up 100g…

Hello everyone, and welcome to the new people. Busy day today packing the caravan, we are off for a couple of weeks YAY! We are heading to Nowra and then down the coast as far as Tathra, however long that takes us. Then to Canberra to catch up with family and home again. I don’t intend to be too strict while we are away, but will keep on top of the daily calories. It’s the 5 o’clock drinkies and nibbles that cause the trouble 😆

    3/10 5.5kg total loss
    10/10 6.3kg total loss
    17/10 7.1kg total loss
    24/10 7.9kg total loss

I had a couple of specialists appointments yesterday, and my Onc became very interested in the 5:2 after seeing my success in such a short time. So apart from having cancer, I am in perfect health. My BMI is in the right range, my blood pressure is great, my cholesterol is super low, liver is good, bone marrow is good, tumour markers are stable. I might just live a bit longer YAY!!

Congrats to everyone who has done well this week, and anyone that has had a plateau or set back, don’t give up. It will happen. Take care everyone.

Greetings everyone, and it’s been great reading this forum over the last few weeks (lurking, sorry!). I was on a thread that died a few weeks ago but I find the forums great with motivation, and there’s a great deal of success here, and not only successes but plenty of humour and down-to-earth, realistic stories about the ups and downs 🙂

Briefly, I’ve struggled with weight for decades, with mixed success. I’m currently obese (such an awful word) and was diagnosed with high BP mid year and my GP recommended 5:2. So far I’ve lost 8.4kg so a slow and steady loss but certainly feeling better for it and I’ve also increased my exercise as I really want to see my (currently non-existent) grandchildren grow up…

I do struggle with the FD’s but still think they’re doable. It’s the Non-FD’s that are the real challenge as I too easily go over my TDEE. Of course the weight loss is never fast enough but I try to remind myself that I’ll only get to my goal if I move down through every single digit on the scale, so all losses are good and a no gain is just as good (well, at least that’s what I tell myself 🙂 I fast Mon/Thurs depending on social/work life and weigh in on Fridays, and…. today I broke the tonne!!! I’m once again in double digits!! Was so excited I had to share the good news and thank you all for the support I’ve gained from this thread over the last few weeks.

Good luck everyone, and thanks again, ~Ensitu~

Hi all, weighed in this morning at 90.4 kg – was 92.7 on 7th October so cruising in the right direction 🙂 I take the view that even if the weight only shifts a smidgeon, the glucose tolerance, cholesterol, triglycerides etc are probably also moving gradually in the right direction. So steady as she goes…

Hi everyone, weighed in this morning and was down 0.5 kg from last week which means I’m down about 1.5kg in two weeks… Very happy with that and I know I didn’t exercise as much this week and ate a lot more badly on my feast days so didn’t expect a huge loss.
Congratulations on everyones achievements thus far.
    Georgie

Hi all, weighed in this morning and I’ve finally broken the “80” barrier (in the downward direction!!) Currently 79.45kg, started at 84.5, so have lost 5kg in 4 weeks!!! yay!!! Of course the weekly losses have slowed but I’m quite happy for 500g per week…never never never to return!!!!! I posted previously how my husband who works at the local hospital and was ridiculed for being on the 5:2 diet, well today he was approached by a couple of other (female) staff and they started questioning him about “5:2” but being a typical MM he had no idea what they were on about, until they mentioned the word “diet” then…. he was on the same page, he started telling them all about it, I can just hear him!! I DO have to remind him sometimes that it was ME that started him on his journey. He’s a huge fan of 5:2 and has lost quite a bit of weight so far and looks better for it!! 🙂

This is such a great forum…….you people are wonderful! It’s so motivating to hear the success you are all having. I am eager to get into the same schedule as most of you and weigh in on Fridays as well! I hope I will have good news ha ha! My weight has kind of crept up on me……one minute I thought I was managing my weight then bam! There it was! I’m sure it wasn’t quite as sudden as that, but it has been a struggle to find a program that works….until now. My doc tells me its due to perimenopause, but that makes me worry what am I going to be like when menopause is actually in full swing? It actually freaks me out quite a bit.
Sigh!! Anyway, I was actually wondering if anybody can recommend a tasty cup a soup that’s low Cal? Even though we’re going into Summer, I just thought it might fill me up and go well with my lunch salad 🙂

    Hi all, again
Is it just me, or does anyone else have trouble measuring themselves??? I can make the tape measure vary quite a bit!!! Some parts are pretty straight forward i.e. Bust, other bits, waist, stomach, butt are all over the shop, probably got to do with the shape of my body. I haven’t had a proper “waist” in years!! I’m hoping eventually I will get it back!!! Here’s hoping!! I think I’ll just stick to weight and try on some clothes that were always a bit tight, that’s always a good indicator!! 🙂

Hi everyone, I tried to post but it came up blank, I’ll have another go! I am so very proud of you all, our team is doing so well, you are showing true AUSSIE DETERMINATION and your enthusiasm is contagous. You are proof that YOU CAN DO IT, if you get bored or run out of ideas, there are plenty of low cal recipes on the web, really worth a try. Have a great week end, you all deserve it, let you hair down a bit, this is our new way of life so don’t be too hard on yourselves. I find it better to log in each day, you see the support there, you KNOW you’re not alone, take care…..CG

Koko, I wrote something a couple of weeks ago about my inability to measure myself, <sighs>. Who would think it would be so hard! I stopped measuring myself after losing 5kg and measuring myself and thinking I have gained 2 inches in my waist, which certainly didn’t show in my clothes.

For anyone struggling, thinking about giving up, or frustrated if it seems too slow, just remember, the time will pass anyhow. So Christmas will come, Easter will come, and even if you are losing 100g a week, you will be in a better position healthwise and sizewise.

I agree, the tape is never is the same spot, I go by my scales, the mirror and my clothes. They are true and don’t guess…CG

Funny you all mention the measurement thing. This morning, my waist measurement was the same as usual but on a whim, I tried to get into “that” pair of jeans that haven’t fit for a year (they must have shrunk, I thought 🙂 ). Not only did I get into them without injuring myself, but they fit rather comfortably. So I reckon the tape measurement thing is an imprecise science whereas the bathroom scales are a little more consistent in their action.

Thanks for the heads up on the tape measure Kvetina & Country Girl… I think I’ll just stick to kg’s and not worry about the cm’s!!! I’m sure one will follow the other anyway!!! 😉

Evening all and a BIG welcome to those new to AUSSIE DETERMINATION ….YOU CAN DO IT!
Today’s weigh in saw a mixture of losses ,plateaus…ALL of us are doing soooo well For those of us that have plateaued PLEASE do not not be discouraged. there will be weeks like this. Be happy and confident that you have lost kgs already BUT have gained so much by being mindful of what you are eating & exercising
KEVTINA- have a wonderful holiday, so happy for you & pleased that you are feeling better and stronger..
Now to the issue of the tape measure LOL LOL…… Do we have to mark the spots on our bodies with texta? NO NO NO…. let our clothing be the guide. I have never been good at this. I have to measure my patients legs for compression stockings . Why can I do this being that it is vital to their progress in healing leg ulcers and cannot put a dash tape measure around my bust , waist and hips….. go figure!!…. GO GAL

Good morning every one, I wish you all an enjoyable day, don’t be too hard on yourself, try to be mindful of what or how much you put in your mouth but it’s not a fast day so indulge, slightly. 5:2 is quite forgiving but you have probably noticed how your guilts perk up when over indulging, ha ha. There is always a better alternative in your choices which are lessons learnt with each diet. You are not alone, keep up your AUSSIE DETERMINATION, this is for you, no explanations needed, YOU CAN DO IT…CG..

A big hello to everyone been reading the posts feeling encouraged. I have just done my first fast day preferred not to eat anything for 24hrs find that easier to cope with. Once I start eating find it difficult to stop and I like not having to think about calories or food.
Felt great this morning just had breakfast and 2 cappuccinos.
I week before I go on holiday to NZ and I am thinking I can do this while I’m away will have a red hot go at it anyway.

Hi Everyone, Im a newbie from OZ also, and i have just finished my first week on 5.2 Diet.
I did the fasting ok it was the days in between which i had the most problem with as i could not stop myself from picking. I know what my tdee is and it is amazing when you add up your calories for the what you have acturally eaten. I hope i do better next week I have quite a lot of weight to lose, so it is going to be a very slow process.Im trying to stay positive but deep down a little disappointed…

Welcome to our newbies, it does take time to adjust to our new way of life but it does happen. After a couple of fast days your AUSSIE DETERMINATION kicks in, you do make better choices, you stop yourself when you get home with fresh cold cuts from the supermarket, you don’t feel the need to fill your gob with it as your putting it in the fridge, you make better choices with food. YOU CAN DO IT, we all struggle a bit in the beginning but it does become easier. Actually most of us look forward to our fast days and our Friday weigh in. Welcome to our team, we are here to support you on this new journey….CG

Happy Weekend to all us DETERMINED AUSSIES! I’ve decided to do a 4:3 week this week, starting with am fast today and I am amazed at just how easy I am finding it today….especially after a Friday night indulge of chips, chocolate and wine….but a very healthy falafel wrap dinner!

Well done everyone on your losses and attitudes…..AndrewofC I know just what you mean…..my jeans are fitting me as well and I can still breathe!

I’m giving up on taper measure until I lose another 5kg…..I just seem to be all over the place….but since January I am happy that I’ve lost 20cm overall.

    WELCOME to our new members!!
Its the of beginning of week 6 for me on FD.
I am pleased with my loss thus far, clothes are looking better on.
I am not going to let the numbers on the scales deter me… if the pair of jeans are lose then that’s an indication that something good is happening.

This new lifestyle is not a sprint….its a marathon !!

Already there are stories of health conditions improving without the need to take medications…. always check with your health care professional for advise regarding this.
    Enjoy your Sunday

I’ve tried every diet known to god and man and they usually work but I always put the weight back on. Struggled with weight my whole life and now I am on BP meds, cholesterol pills and antidepressants who thought it would have got to this.
My goal is to stop fad dieting and get off the pills and oh yeh lose all the weight and keep it of.
I have never posted before but I think it will give me the support I need to know that others are struggling too and that there is understanding and help out there.

Good morning everyone. Well, I fasted yesterday, totally unintentionally! It was just food choices. I had some turkey breast with some baby Roma tomatoes I picked up on special so grabbed heaps, then yesterday decided I better start eating them before they go off, I was also given a lovely bunch of silver beet which I love, so steamed it with a few Roma tomatoes and a bit of sliced onion, when cooked a teaspoon of creme Fruich served up with some prawns I cook up. Had one whiskey and diet coke around dinner time, and that was it , all under 500 cals. See how easy it is when just making the right food choices. I had no intention of fasting but when I checked my cals for the day, I was shocked. Todays planned meals will put me up around 1400 cals, my TDEE is 1500 so still doing well. The scales haven’t altered much but my clothes are so loose and comfortable, not trying to stretch anything before I put it on.
Have a great Sunday everyone, plan plan plan for your fast tomorrow, it’s worth it, because YOU CAN DO IT let your AUSSIE DETERMINATION be your guide……CG

Morning all. Hope you’re enjoying the day, where ever you may be. Happy fasting day for tomorrow! 🙂

Good Morning Lindanaf, my beautiful sister! And to everyone else out there living the 5:2 life! Hope everyone is feeling fine on this glorious day

Hi little Sis, and welcome to this forum! There are lots of lovely ladies and gentlemen here to chat with and we all give each other lots of help and support. So happy to “see” you. 🙂 xx

Hi to all Aussie “Determinators” (“we’ll be back”). Something to make you smile on a Sunday eve. I am an unashamed baked beans fan so breakfast on one of my weekly fast days is the famous “beanz”. I have always eaten Heinz brand (not a product endorsement – just out of habit). Anyhow, the book suggested Weight Watchers baked beans. I thought that might have been a UK-specific endorsement but nevertheless decided to buy some. Can’t get them in rustic Castlemaine so drove 40 km south to Kyneton and bought some. When I got them home, I compared the nutrition panel on the Weight Watchers brand and the same size can of the Heinz salt-reduced can. To cut a long story short, both were identical in energy, protein, fat, carbs, sugars, fibre, sodium and potassium. But the Weight Watchers can cost a lot more. Lesson learned by yours truly 🙂 Have a great week all.

Thanks Andrew for the thumbs up on Heinz “beenz” it shows what commercial brands do, just add costs, I have found the same with some Homebrand products, less salt than national brands, lower cals, it pays to read the label before reaching in your pocket. I was a Heinz kid too and still love ’em. Have a great fast say tomorrow….CG

Good morning team Happy fasting day, I hope you have planned well, you will becoming quite adept at fasting now, it’s not hard any more because you know YOU CAN DO IT, this is for YOU, you deserve this new way of life, your AUSSIE DETERMINATION will kick in and see you through, it’s only one day, temptation will always be there, but that’s why we are all here now! Have a great day, soups are good fillers and low in cals if the weather is a bit iffy as it is in Vic today, real comfort food weather, but hay, it’s only one day, we are here to support you, YOU ARE NOT ALONE…….CG

    Good Morning All
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. My weekend was away with friends and there was flowing wine and lots of food. So, FAST DAY today. I am so glad that it is fast day today and to detoxify, I am planning for water only fast (with exception of one morning coffee with milk).
Will be doing 4:3 this week too due to overeating over the weekend. Just love this lifestyle as it is so easy to get back in control.
My grocery shopping for coming week was a big encouragement. My shopping trolley was full of vegies and fruit. If I open up the fridge, it will be easier to reach for blue berries and strawberries rather than Triple choc cookies in the pantry. So proud of my food choices now. 🙂

Happy Monday everyone! Well I’ve had a pretty good weekend food wise although I only managed one fast day last week on Tuesday. What do you all do regarding social (food centered) events and fasting days? I have a friend visiting from interstate today and she wants to have dinner out tonight. So…Well at first I was thinking maybe I could just keep my cals under 100 all day and then eating out might be ok but I think I might be better off trying to fast Tuesday and Thursday this week. I sometimes have weeks (like last week)when I actually have a dinner or lunch thing almost everyday day and I’m not sure how to work this with fast days. Any tips? I think in the long run the idea of this WOL is that maintenance mode would be only 1 fast day and I guess if you are doing it for life then one or two weeks off here and there should be fine (right?). Thanks all, it’s great to read your posts!

Good morning everyone, another newbie here. I tried this diet a few months back and was so hungry on my fast days that I thought I just couldn’t do it, but I am back to give it another try! I found this forum this morning and have been sitting here reading instead of doing the housework 😉 I am Aussie, I live in rural NSW so I find it hard sometimes to find the food that other diets and dieters recommend. I am gonna spend some time reading past posts to see what foods to have for fast days. My town has Coles and Woolies so I shouldn’t have a problem. Also I am open to suggestions, tips, advice, anything really to help me stick to this. So here goes guys (takes deep breath); today is day one for me, cross fingers I can get through it. Oh and I am also over on My Fitness Pal where I can track my calories and exercise….I am Kimiebee, please come friend me! Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Kimiebee, you don’t have to buy anything special, home made veggie soup is ideal, plenty of veggies is very low cal, also stir fry’s with some protein, tofu or a piece of chicken breast, or fish all very low cal and under 500 for the day. Drink lots of black tea or coffee, flavoured water with cucumber and lemon in it. The expenses should be lower to your than normal shopping so nothing special is needed. Salads are very good, just go online and check meals under 300-400-500 cals, there are so many ideas out there, you don’t need to buy anything special, it’s all in your fridge. We are here to support you, welcome, your AUSSIE DETERMINATION will build the longer you are with us, YOU CAN DO IT, just take the first step……CG

Hello CG and thank you for the welcome :). Yep, I am still here reading and nope no housework has been done. After reading several posts I have discovered that I am more than halfway there with the food. I don’t have a sweet tooth and I love fresh fruits and salads. My biggest downfall is the savoury foods like chips, doritos, dips, nachos …. they are my comfort or go to foods that I just can’t resist along with takeaways from KFC!! I do suffer from lactose intolerance so I already drink black coffee and tea. The hardest thing for me will be to drop my snacks especially around 3.30…I find that I do suffer from 3:30-itis and tend binge on my go to foods. Thanks CG for those final words…I do believe that this time I can do this….Kimi x

Kimi most of us find that leaving Brunch to as late as possible helps the afternoon hungers, so no breaky, very late brunch then a latish dinner gets us through. Carrots, celery, are a good standby, for crunch, it”s surprising how it helps when you MUST have something, most of the time a drink will suffice. You’ll do fine…CG

Hi everyone, good luck today for everyone who is on a FD. So far mine is going well, despite a weekend of indulgence with two birthday parties. I thought the extra sugar on the weekend would up the cravings today but so far so good and I am in the right mindset. Even considering doing an extra FD this week to see if I can finally see a change on the scales (so far – 6 weeks and no change!) I am looking forward to trying some new foods, and since they are just for me, I know I won’t hear the usual complaints from family members when I try something new! (I have a son with ASD, and a husband that is a finicky eater too – who will just eat the plain and ordinary and not keen on soups or anything a little bit different!) It’s nice to do something special just for me, so I look forward to my FD meals.

Good morning DA’s and I hope fast day goes smoothly for all doing one today. Today I have the added incentive of an appt with my GP about my blood pressure… nothing like the risk of a stroke to keep me on track 😉
I had a better weekend food-wise as I’ve done some necessary re-adjusting of my thinking 🙂 When I started 12 weeks ago, the first 6 weeks were so easy that I thought I’d found dieting Nirvana, but if I’m really honest I was losing weight because I found it easy to make healthy choices on the other days. I’ll call it the ‘dieting honeymoon’ and its something I’ve always experienced, no matter what the diet. So after 6 weeks or so, as I began to eat more on the non FD’s, so the loss slowed and I’ve had to accept that 5:2 is a kind of diet too, and be more realistic about what I can eat the rest of the week if I am going to continue to lose weight – no more pretending I can over-indulge on non FD’s and get away with it!
Fastina, I often have the same sort of schedule, so while I aim for Mon/Thurs I also juggle the FD’s around and occasionally decide not to fast at all one weeks as I know it’s not going to work.
Thanks so much for the encouragement and support, and keep up the good work everyone! ~Ensitu~

You right Ensitu….interesting name…..you are only cheating yourself, I think the 5:2 is forgiving as we are human but I doubt any new way of life can be abused so to speak if you expect it to work. I know at times it’s tough for us all, but the choices are there, we all know which ones got us here in the first place….so let your AUSSIE DETERMINATION kick in, it helps! Take care….CG
