  • Nedb the warm milk also helps with the hunger…CG xxx

Hi team. Once again it’s interesting to read all your posts and to see that we are all human. We all have our good days and bad days. As Countrygal said. If you stuffed up yesterday, put it behind you and aim to do better in future. CG I do so enjoy your stories re your farm, garden and animals. We lived in country Victoria until we moved to Tassie 12 years ago. We had a couple of acres and I had the chooks, veggie garden and just loved it. Our neighbour used to agist horses so I always had a chat to them. Cattle on a small holding nearby. Recently we went back there. Due to the Melboure urban sprawl the blocks have been cut up and now everyone is living cheek by jowl. I prefer the rural lifestyle so am glad we were spared that.
Gypsy you must be looking forward to your trip. Sorry about your partners Ca thing. I do hope it’s all clear for him now. Hobart is a very pretty place with lots to see and do. Should you come to th North East Coast at all, we live close to St Helens. I’m the only Gratjios in the phone book so do make contact ( if you want to of course. ) Just one caution. The agricultural dept. Here is very strict about bringing food or plant material into the state. Often you will be met by a sniffer dog. It’s bizarre what some People will try and bring in.
    Happy 5:2ing team.

I totally agree Dogsabie, I have two horses, over the fence one side, close to the back of my house, one a shetland (Hamish) I just love, Millie a magnificent grey is a guts, ears back, you know the look, she comes to me for treats but I try to toss them over her head to little Hamish, and they get all my carrots/apples whatever…they stand and wait for me at the fence especially if theysee me going to the clothes line. The big paddock I adjoin with is a dairy herd. Usually with a couple of Jersey bulls for joining, so they come over to my fence to have a chat with my girls….I often ask my girls if they have any gossip for me? Dogsabie, I have never been so at peace with myself as I am these days. There is a new young rooster next door, just crowing, 12.05 pm, wondering if I should buy him an alarm clock!…have a great day team, listen to nature, it has so much to say….CG xx

nedb, I do the same thing CG does, I have a latte (100ml of semi-skimmed milk with 70ml espresso = 43kcal) at night (an hour before bed?) and it curbs any hunger that might be growing again. I have been doing this for almost 2 years now so it’s a lot easier for me now. But that only means your body will adjust in time as well.

Thanks for the tips guys. I’ll definitely think I’ll try to lower the intake during the week as I do like to have a few social drinks on the weekends & I know that adds up very quickly!

Morning All, and it is still morning where I am. Got off the computer quick smart yesterday afternoon as the storms followed me home. A friend told me how another of her friends the night before during the thunderstorm thought she would relax in a bath till it passed. She was blasted out of the bath at the height of the storm and has spiderlike burns to her back and legs!! Wow, who knew lightening could travel down plastic pipes. Think we are through them now but they have been spectacular.

CG relish your ‘prattle’, feel free. So interesting hearing about your super garden and the animals, real Mrs Doolittle! BTW, could you refresh my memory about how you get ‘rice’ from cauli? You have such good ideas, like curry powder in veg. soup for extra flavour. Please keep them coming

Love the black rice idea Flemmo, have seen it around and will try it. Love rice.

Nedb I also save 51 or 89 cals to have a milky flat white coffee in the evening and it is a good filler. I use low fat milk tho, that is why the cals are so high. 51 = half cup milk, 89 = two thirds. Am going to give skim a try, see if it is as filling.

Will miss your cheeky posts Gypsy, have a great trip. YY

Nedb should have mentioned apples. Save 50 cals for medium apple as a snack after dinner/before bed. Takes quite a while for your tum to work on it while you sleep. Just in case you are not a milk fan. YY

G’Day Mates… Thanks for those hints.. will give them a try next FD.. Have any of you been onto Pintrest and seen the huge array of 5:2 diet suggestions??? seem promising … Cheers Nedb

Hi YumYum, this is my recipe not the “accepted ” but they are all on a par I guess, my problem is measuring, as you know, the older you get, it’s a bit of this a hit of that but here goes

3-4 cauli flower “clumps” …make sense?
1 cup of peas carrot corn mix (frozen)
    1 med-large egg
    Low salt soy sauce.
    Spring onion
Put the caulie through the food processor with the grater blade …the caulie will resemble rice
Cover with water and microwave 2-3 mins
Drain and put on cake slice tray, put in fridge to dry, and hour or two
Cook peas corn carrot couple of mins in microwave in a small amount of water…drain
Squirt wok or fry pan with 2-3 secs of oil spray add sliced spring onion stir till tender, remove.
Beat egg lightly then add to hot wok. Swirl around till set, may need a lid, when set form a long roll with the set egg and put on bread board
Add cauli rice and vegs and keep moving it with slotted spoon, add enough soy to taste then the onion, slice the set egg into thin slices and add, warm through and enjoy. Can also add prawns or chicken making it a one bowl meal. The one I made today worked out at 39cals…made two serves
Measure and log each ingredient into MFP for true cals hope you like it, when your used to throwing things together it’s hard being precise but go by the eye test..the colour should look even
    Enjoy CG xxx

Nb there are so many recipe floating around, the pinterest are great but so is the general web, but you can just use what you have normally, a chicken breast 100g steamed veg, ..broccoli, caulie, snow peas, bok choy, few slices capsicum, all yum, maybe a chat (baby) potato and that’s a great “normal” meal for fast days. Small slurp of sweat chilli sauce on the chicken, what could be better. Always remember though, when first starting, weigh everything you put in your mouth, all veg all protein to get the true value.
YumYum, forgot to say, salt and pepper as needed!…CG xx

YumYum, I keep saying measuring, I meant weighing, sorry, must be nanny nap time!…CG

YumYum, you have given me a new respect with thunder storms, I often sit on my front deck and watch the show over my hills, sometimes the hairs on my arms stick up, electricity in the air, so back inside quick smart. I hope your friend is okay…CG xx

Hi CG, yes she is ok, just some surface spidery burns on back and legs. We were actually told by the bureau of met. that when in a thunderstorm if you feel those hairs standing up or tingling sensation to skedalle 🙂 And if out in the open to crouch down to make as small a target as possible!!

Thanks for your cauli rice dish. Have to confess that a lot of my cooking is made up as I go along, usually dictated by my taste. Which you would have worked out by now is Spicy!! Love spuds, rice, pasta, noodles – which is why I am here I suppose. Oh and salt, can’t get enough sometimes. BP is usually low so it doesn’t affect me. Don’t like dark chocolate but put some seasalt in and I’m there. Thankyou Lindt!!

Don’t mean to be a pain picking your brain for FD’s but sometimes when I get to that day my get-up and go got up and went and good low cal ideas with it!

That’s fine, ask anything, one of us will answer, good ol’ stir frys are handy, veg from the crisper, ready made sauces from the super market, blackbean, hoisin….whatever, great stand by’s a few sliced chicken tenders or any fish…easy and low cal…CG xx

Afternoon ADs. Very hot here again, terrible bush fires in WA today again, hope the weather cools down soon and none of you WA people are near any of them.

GYPSY…..have a wonderful time, we will miss you!

BALI…..when hubby says I have a day off, I say yes that’s right it’s the day the maid come today and does the floors, washing, etc etc…..lol we never have a day off!

GG…..you sound like you are having a great time with your mum….I’ve heard about this Dukan before will have to google it..

FLEMMY…..love the sound of your curry and will definately check out the rice, I am a rice lover..

PREE….don’t be too hard on yourself….some days are like that….put it aside and like CG says plan for the next day, YOU CAN DO IT

Welcome MissM….and welcome back nedb and malteasers……nice to have you blokes posting…..ANDREW….I hope you are back soon too x

CG…..love the sound of your fried rice…..we get so many nice recipe tips on here, it’s great 🙂

    That’s page 54 read….

Ohh yes please go inside when there is a thunderstorm about. When I was a child in South Africa we were taught to get out of the water, stay away from any metal objects ( good electrical conductors ) and go indoors if a TS was about. Did you see on the news recently that some poor guy died recently after being struck by lightening. He was sheltering in a bus shelter ( metal roof) I think.
I need to buy a good kitchen scale. My one is eons old. Digital or electronic, not sure what the difference is. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don’t mind paying a bit extra if it works well.
Oh CG – I love horses. Well most animals really ( not snakes or crocs ). I’m still trying to get over the loss of our beloved Golden Retriever. He was such a faithful companion. Hubby used to travel a lot for work and I always had a doggy friend. Cats too but not now as we have beautiful birds about. I’m hoping to take possession of a new Poodle pup soon. The breeder is a bit of a Prima Donna. I better shut up in case she is one of our team!!
    XX DS

YUM YUM….that’s scary! Storms forecast for Albany today…..need a break in this weather…..worked this morning removing a creeper overgrown over a shade house, hubby and I both pouring with sweat….really feel for the fire fighters..

Yes the cauli rice is great, I’ve used it a couple of times….still have rice, pasta & potatoes on my non-fast days, but not very often and serve is a lot smaller….I couldn’t survive without the real deal now and again….but alternatives are great and keeps us trying new things 🙂

Nedb….I LOVE PINTREST….I get a lot of mosaic ideas from there…will check out the 5:2 recipes as well..thanks

Forgot to say that we live in a semi-rural area and when I go for my morning walks, have a bit of bush as well as farm paddocks….lots of cows, kangaroos, and beautiful birds…..my favourite…

Thats me guys, have a great day everyone

Dogsabie, I’m not frightened of storms but certainly don’t go out in them either. If I can see one coming I feed the cows and sheep in their sheds quickly ( so their hay doesn’t get too wet) and shoot straight back up to the house. We were taught as kids to Never to stand under a tree in a storm, my grand mother wouldn’t go near the sink and my Dad would turn every thing off till it passed, wise thing to do, I lost my computer with a shortage surge during a thunder storm last year. The electricity Co. paid for the repair but the telstra guy told me they have a lot of trouble with the lightening around my area stuffing up the lines etc. I seem more aware living in the country of the weather and see so much more with the expanse of my view than I ever did when living in Melb. But living on my own, well with Maggie and the three boys, it wouldn’t do to be frightened of thunder storms because we have some rippers, especially in Summer. Golly I woffle on, gotta stop……
Don’t forget to prepare for our fast tomorrow team, Friday weigh in will be here before we know it….panic stations….don’t think so, YOU CAN DO IT xxxxxCG

Hi everyone great to read your posts as I have lunch. Lots of ash here from the bushfires & also the water bombers very active. I love cauliflower rice & use it quite often. Dogasbie I feel for u with your golden retriever as I have a 16 year old kelpie border collie who is in the last little bit of his life – will miss him so much – we saved him & his sister from being drowned by a farmer at 4 weeks so I know he has had a very good innings (lost his sister to cancer 6 years ago) funnily enough my husband dreamed recently that we had a poodle!!! CG I also love your descriptions of country life – my parents were keen riders and I rode a lot when I was younger. Gypsy have a wonderful trip will miss your posts. Pree, I find that some carbs like bread make me feel really starving don’t beat yourself up it happens to everyone. Just off to the shops so I am prepared for tomorrow- hopefully nothing till dinner & then super low cal noodles with spinach, tomatoes, capsicum & hot smoked salmon. Have a good rest of your day. Cheers Miss A

Gypsy, I’m not saying good bye yet as I think you said you were going to the big smoke for two days with your partner. I do hope when you read our messages, all went well for him, it’s a rotten disease, but so much more success as each year passes so fingers crossed for you both.
I hope you bought more (smaller) clothes whilst in the big smoke, just enough to make you rethink your packing! Oh the joy’s of it all, hahaha.
If possible, ask your pilot to dip his wing on your way to Tassie when flying over South Gippsland, I’ll be out in the front paddock waving…….so if you see a mad looking ol’ gal, with a couple of cows and a few sheep around her jumping up and down…you’ll know it’s me…..
Looking forward to your post before you head off…take care my friend…CG xx

Lots of posts to catch up on today, sorry if I miss anyone.

Pree- your doing great! REMEMBER -You are in control of the food you eat!We are human and ALL have had days like that!I have had FAST days where I managed to fast all day only to be tempted by pizza ( loved every mouthful)The weird thing was I lost more on that week than any other?? Its OK.Refocus now on what tomorrows FAST day menu will be.IT IS DOABLE.This is a journey and before you know it another FAST DAY will be here anyhow….tomorrow:)

Gypsy have a great trip…be prepared for a few days worth of reading upon your return:)

Nedb On Fast days I also have a hot chocolate before bed it helps me to sleep.I was wondering what you ate/eat on FAST DAYS?I find boiled eggs give me a full feeling.

Miss M welcome to 5:2. In the beginning its best to just take it slow, learn what 200calorie/500calorie looks like. Drink lots of water on FAST DAYS.There is a lot of support here on AUSSIE DETERMINATION…just ask.Enjoy your journey!

MissA those fires sound close if your getting ash? Keep safe!

Andrew how are the botanical gardens- I miss the updates.Weigh in Friday!

I am in the Perth hills area and the storms have settled (for now)I think more are forecast for this afternoon.I got stuck in the lightening yesterday,gardening- it was arcing everywhere…frightening! One person was taking their dog for a walk??? I heard that a dog and owner got hit by lightening yesterday as well.I didnt realise having a bath would be hazardous to your health…now I know.

After FAST day last meal 6pm yesterday I ate at 12noon today. Finally hungry!Love the after FAST day feeling….Trying to eat to TDEE today.FAST DAY tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone.AS our great leader CG says “DONT SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF”

Foxy, are you safe from the fires, I just checked the WA fire map and there is a watch and act in Albany? Take care….CG xx

Sorry girls, I know some you are from the West but not sure where, please take care and listen to the warnings….CG xxx

I need to buy an accurate kitchen scale. My present one is useless. I’m after an electronic ,digital one. Can anyone suggest a good, easy to use and accurate one?

Take care in those storms. The fires in WA are awful. We do live In a very bushfire prone country. Although we are a stones throw from the sea, we have bush just across the road and behind us. We would never be able to protect our house and if a fire comes our way would have to grab our dog and run to the beach. It’s a great and safe country to live in though.
Happy FD tomorrow and that includes me.

Dogsabie, I have digital kitchen scales which I bought from Big W and they are always on the kitchen bench, it has become habit to keep using them especially when making up a recipe and logging it with MFP. The brand is Live It, never heard of them but they have never let me down, anyway not expensive, most things have a 12 mth warranty so you can’t go wrong. They have a glass plate to weigh things on, I often use a plastic bowl to weigh things, put it on the glass plate before turning them on so it starts at zero….good luck, don’t get ripped of with brand names either…CG xx
    ,

They are digital, weigh in oz,LB, and grams too…CG xx

    Hi everyone,
I have been reading through the post but far too much to catch up on. I wish I had more time during he day to keep it on the computer.
I have had a good fd today. came out at 476 calories. Also had a good FD on Sunday. My issue is with the 2 days in between. I don’t know what happened but I have been eating junk and thinking it was OK as I have lost a bit of weight. Self sabotage… not happy Jan, as they say.
Oh well, onwards and upwards. I can’t un-eat what I have done so I just have to learn from it.
I have my set of Kitchen scales on the bench. Love having them there.
    take care everyone…..

Countrygal you are a gem! Thank’s for that. I’ll order one stat – tomorrow that is.
I think it was you who said she had an iPad. I have one too. Love it. A few nights ago we had a great chat while watching the tennis. As a matter of interest – do you stay logged on to the site or log on and off? Oh and I am missing the tennis. Bring on the cricket.
Bye the bye, where about in Gupsland are you? It’s a lovely part of the world. During my really crook bad back days, my daughter and son in law took me to Cape Conron, near Mallacuta for a weeks R& R. It was beautiful.
Whoever recommended the Birds Eye steamed fish. We had it tonight with the neighbours spuds , straight out of the garden. High in calories but yum. With other salad veg – scrumptious.
I’ve also just had a blowout. I found some antipasto in the fridge. Couldn’t resist it. FD again tomorrow.
    Bye.

    Hello ADs
This thread is buzzing with activity today. Really interesting discussions especially thunderstorms. This is really something to look out for.
CG, hope to see the pictures of your beautifully landscaped garden, sounds very rewarding n beautiful.
Foxy, i think that I have said this before but here its again, “I am very very fascinated with farm life, and just loved reading the stories abt cows, sheep, horses, roosters n so on. ”
Gypsy enjoy your time away in Tassie.
GG, very happy to hear that you had an awesome time away with family.

Well, doing 4:3 this week too, fasted Monday, totally blew up on tuesday n fasted again today.

I had 4 pcs of bakalava sitting here on my dining table. I dont have the courage to throw the beauties away. Hubby n son dont eat Bakalava, so full tray has my name on it 🙁 bakalava is Something That I can’t resist. Where is my AUSSIE DETERMINATION????
And after totally blowing up on Tuesday n eating whatever was in sight, i have gained 1.6 kgs in one day….. Surprisingly, this time I stepped down from the scales, made a cup of skim milk tea n thought to myself, ” two fasts and this will be gone” Now, that I think was my AUSSIE DETERMINATION. Finished todays fast at 520 cals and plan to fast again tomorrow.

Sorry for the longish post but had to share the downs and this is for you Pree, we all have those days, but keepon movin’ on is the key… Isnt it?

Hi Dogsabie, I never log out of 5:2 on my ipad, just keep going back into it. I love scrabble and play a friend in Ballarat most nights, we are miles and miles apart but our friendship goes back 45 years, so between moves I check our thread, that’s how I’m able to answer so quickly. My ipad sits on my coffee table in the family room with me, or the kitchen bench if I’m in there. Rarely use my computer now. Both my children message me with their ipads too so it’s great for contact. By the way, check out ebay or Kogan for your scales why pay a fortune if you don’t need to…unless you have a Target or BigW handy.
Yes I loved the chat through the tennis too, come on with the cricket, hay!..
Oh, South Gippsland is at the bottom of the Victorian map, there is a little shoe shape, Wilsons Prom, I’m about 45 mins inland from that in cattle country…CG xx

Hi FB, wondered where you got too. Like you say, we all have those days. Don’t over do it with too many fasts in a row, you know the 5:2 works or 4:3 as you usually do, there is no race to get to your goal…you are so close so be kind to yourself. Just take your time, look how well you have done so far FB, even if the blow out takes till next week to go, what does it matter. I often think it does us good any way to have a “pig out” to shake things up, it soon moves…have a lovely evening, and DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF….CG xx

Hi Everyone, I am brand new to this 5:2 Fast. I’d like to join in to this feed if that’s ok. I am an Aussie but currently living in the US (halfway through a 3 year military posting with my husband). I am probably about 12 kilograms over weight and have been since my last daughter was born – nearly 17 years ago. I have lost and regained over the years but I really want to get it off for good. I am hoping this way of eating will make the difference. What’s frustrating for me is that I am very active. I exercise everyday – running and long distance walking/hiking. I am of average height (5’8″) and weigh 81 kgs. I’m not kidding when I say that I can lose 8-10 kg and no-one will notice. My clothing size will not change. They will feel a lot more comfortable but the size will not change because the next size down will still be too tight. Does anyone else have this problem? I just feel like a very dense heavy person if that makes sense. I want feel lighter as well as look lighter. Anyway I know the food you eat is more important than the amount of exercise you do so here I go. Wish me luck! I look forward to reading and joining in on future discussions. S.

Wellcome Cohayney 123. I’m sure that you will find this 5:2 Diet easy to do. There are those on this site who are far more knowledgable than I am who can advise you.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE ACCESS TO FOXTEL – MICHAEL MOSLEY is on channel 612 tonight at 2141- ( 941pm. – ) – 2252. It may be a repeat of his BBC doco. It doesn’t say.

In a bit of a rush. More later.

    DS.

Good morning team, fast day again, weigh in tomorrow. Did you plan, have you got your food organised. It’s second nature to most of us now….so good luck today. Most fasting days are so easy, others really like to test you. Have the hard boiled egg at the ready, a piece of friut, or carrot straws to nibble to get you through. Mid arvo, I still find Zero coke or diet dry ginger ale, even Kirks diet pub squash do help with hunger pangs but do go with what you find works for you
Welcome Cohayney, if you stay with this way of eating you will definately lose the excess weight but also be a smaller sizes as your shape will change. I read many years ago, food is more than 80% importand to lose wright (may even be more) than exercise so our 5:2 journey will help. We fast two days a week usually Mon and Thurs and we weigh in Friday, just to keep us honest to ourselves. We share our losses and our plateaus with each other. No one is judging, we support and encourage each other, so welcome to our team Go to the How section at the top of the page to fill out you TDEE which is normal dat cal suggestion and start you tracker also at the top of the page. It is great to look back at your success. Any questions, please feel free to ask
DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF TEAM, it’s the big picture we concerntrate on, YOU CAN DO IT, today is when your AUSSIE DETERMINATION is at it’s best….:) CG xx

Dogsabie, I just checked the Foxtel guide and it’s not the 5:2 doco, it war medicine, but thanks for sharing….CG xx

As an aside team, don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but, the email we get from 5:2 ..a supposed copy of a post, is usually so misspelt and nothing like the original. I questioned a post from GG a few weeks back, going by the email, only to find the original post was different, and correct. Please check original posts rather than going by the copied emails….I can make enough typos with out the help of our forum! I’m using my ipad so don’t know with all this iso8 stuff wether it’s that at fault with the translations or not, but just thought I’d mention it……..have a heart felt day team, give a smile away, you’ll be surprised how many you get back in return…CG xx

Hey all, I am new to 5 2. I will start Monday! I was told that a fast day should be 15 hours. If I don’t eat after 3pm until 6am is that a fast day? Wish me luck

My tutoring kids’ aunt brought home-made beignets and Tunisian-style home-made pizza today. Safe to say my daily calories weren’t low (1950 anyone?). And it was a sad view looking at 2 slices of pizza and blinde vinken or ‘blind finches’ (mince meat wrapped in thin pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon) on a plate with no real veggies, so I had a fancy glass of white wine and lit some candles to make up for it. Totally with the extra calories.

Tomorrow another FD, I bought some lover at market (super low calories!) but the cauliflower was very expensive and small (because of the weather I think) so I bought some broccoli. Does anyone know if the cauliflower rice works with broccoli as well? I’d love to hear all of your opinions.

The internet is such a wonderful thing. I can’t believe I’m talking practically in real time to people who see kangaroos on their morning walks. I saw a squirrel at my public swimming pool playground this summer and got overly excited. We have a robin and a jay (the birds, not people with those names lol) in the neighbourhood and I get so happy when I see them around. Can’t imagine what a kangaroo would do to my mood 😀

FB, instead of throwing them away, could you make someone else happy with them? People are often happy to oblige if you offer them to ‘adopt’ your delicious desserts…

Those fires sound very scary. In Belgium we just don’t have those types of regular threats, hope everyone is safe and sound.

Hi mta1269! Welcome. The most basic way to do 5:2 is for 2 days a week you: go to bed, get up, eat no more than 500kcal during that day, go to bed, in the morning you eat normally again (meaning your Fast Day or ‘FD’ is over). A lot of people (I am one of them) benefit from trying to eat as late as possible, because eating tends to kick-start hunger pangs.

Also, it is believed that a fast is the most effective if there is at least 16hrs between meals (or any kcal taken in). For instance, if you choose Monday as a FD (Fast Day), you stop eating on Sunday night at 7pm, if you then don’t eat before 11am, you will have ‘fasted’ for 16 hrs. I think that’s where you got the number from. I try not to eat any calories between Sunday night (pretty late) and my dinner on Monday (around 7pm). That’s almost 20hrs only on water. Then I don’t eat until Tuesday morning, and that’s another 12 hrs of fasting.

So, in short: you go to bed, between dawn and dusk you eat no more than 500kcal (try to make them as late as possible), next morning you eat regularly.

You can also do 24hrs, from 2pm to 2pm the next day, for instance, but those are slightly harder to calculate and might result in a slower weight loss (because it is 24hrs instead of 36hrs.

I don’t know if that’s in any way clear, I struggle to express myself clearly sometimes.

Red moon last night and red sun this morning…..yes CG, the Albany bush fire is unfortunately just 5ks up the road from us. Dan was busy all arvo blow vaccing the leaves from gutters and damping everything down…..he keeps everything litter & leaf free anyway BUT bloody neighbours, sorry…..Oh no sirens as I type…..the fire was reported as controlled last night so hope there hasn’t been a flare up…will just have to wait and see…no ash or anything as yet

FB….I don’t have a farm as such, we only have half an acre, but are close to farm lands and natural bush so have heaps of rural animals as well as native about…..sometimes little possums in our garden….we also have a large vegie patch and 4 chickens…I feed my chooks every thing except chicken of course….they are great for getting rid of leftovers and also TEMPTATION….many a cake or dessert has been squashed into the chook scrap bowl so I don’t eat more or any…..I don’t feel its a waste because the more scraps they eat, the less wheat I have to buy….plus they love a varied diet….I always joke that if I fell over in my chook pen, they’d gobble me up no worries 🙂

Have a great fast day all those fasting…..I’m going to make a chop suey for dinner with cabbage, lean mince & lots of vegies

FC, you did really well explaining, thank you. I do get the occasional kangaroo jumping through my paddocks…they jump my fences in a single bound so easily, the cattle all gather together and stare in disbelief, once it is gone, they bravly follow to where it jumped the fence. I get koalas in my front trees, they make the worst noise, some what like pigs I think, awful but as cute as all get out, so many fall from the trees in high winds and get hit by milk tankers, very sad, but still plenty around. You see to be able to see a squirrel would be lovely to us, we see it in American movies etc so we all have our unique natives…have a great day, appreciate what you have…CG xxx

Foxy, I made that about three weeks ago and froze in portions, it freezes really well considering it’s mainly cabbage, always enjoyable, long long time favourite. Glad your safe matie, thinking about you last night, did the thunderstorms eventuate?? We find during Summer when all is dry, they start more fires than anything? Also, extremely grateful if the rains follow of course, have a great day, your garden is lovely…CG xxx

Great news, just spoke to the Alfred Hospital, I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT …March 6, so should get news regarding an op, please, please, please….and the beat goes on
    CG xx

Countrygal yipee I’m so pleased for you that you have an appointment at The Alfred. I do hope that you are able to get %100 pain relief. Are you going to see a neurosurgeon or Orthopaedic bod? Please let us know how you get on.
I know where Wilsons Prom is so can visualise when you are in the cattle country. It’s lovely around there. We used to live in Gisborne. Near Mt Macedon. I needed to be able to commute to Melbourne as I was nursing at one of the hospitals there.
Yes I know what you mean by the typos using an iPad. I get really cranky when the gadget insists on spelling things it’s way and overrides me.
Another FD today. I too am prepared. Fish and salads for supper. Hubby will get nuked spuds with his. I’ll try not to look as he drizzles them with butter!

Hi ho Dogsabie, been let down by this surgeon so often ordering more “tests” etc, but getting back into him is a nightmare. So all MRI’s -.X-rays, phisyo, completed, even had blood done, can’t think of another hold up, quiting smoking tomorrow…well will try, so hopefully it should be all go. No one wants to go under the knife but I’ve tried every other Ave available, so, even on bended knees, will plead he help me. Nerves and excitement all in one atm, as well as anticipation.Oh the big thing too, have lost 20k since I last saw him…AND back to water aerobics so what more can I do. You have been on the other side (of the table) have I forgotten anything?
On your Vic. Map, check out the town of Leongatha, I’m 15-20 mins from there, green as green, do the google map fly over, it’s magic.
Love talking to you, stay tuned….CG xxxx

Oh, his bame is Lu Ton, world renown, big site on the web regarding him, so know I’m in the right hands…CG xx

Foxy stay safe, I know what u mean about neighbours we had neighbours like that in Oakford- really p’s u off!!!!
Welcome Cohayney & mta I am only new to the forum but I have followed it for quite a while. I am a bit like u Cohayney in that I have always exercised to maintain my weight – specifically walking & weights & pilates BUT due to knee & back probs now doing exercise bike & have not succeeded in getting back to weights & pilates!!! BUT I have been able to stick with 5:2 & lately 4:3 & I have lost 5kg which I just have been unable to do in the last five years – wld lose 3kg & then regain it. This is a sustainable WOL. Not many people have noticed I’ve lost weight either – but I saw a friend on the weekend & she was very complimentary. Husband never says anything. Good luck & it gets easier!! Water, water water & think of tomorrow..
CG so very pleased for u!! Is that the Alfred in Sydney or is there one in Melbourne as well!! FB I wld give the baklava away!!! Hard I know, but for me sugar makes me crave more sugar. Happy fasting everyone & again Foxy stay safe with fires so close. Amanda

MissA the one in Melb. All good advise on your post too. FB and FC, no no no…to the treats, maybe a small piece on non fast days but oh the temptation and over indulgence, our 5:2 is forgiving I know but it does need help. Sure we all do it, but try a little if possible…especially now that your guilt is already setting in…CG 🙂 can’t get away with it can we with a good conscious……can we?..

    Hi everyone!
    Welcome Cohayney, mta1269
CG – best of luck for the op mate. Will be sending you thoughts and best wishes for Mar 6.
Foxy – Stay safe. I hope the bush fire passes you by
Wet and overcast in Sydney today. Still have done my 11000 steps by noon, so chuffed for fitting that in a work day. Although… (and hanging head in shame here), I had a hazelnut croissant and cappucino just now. I am fine on fast days, and really low-carb, but really spurge on the afternoons of non-fast day.I do stay within my 1400-1500 cals on NF days tho. Hopefully will get better at training my mind in the future…
Mon, Wed and Fri Fast this week and for the next forseeable future, as still plateauing at 79.4 kilos (lost 200 gms this week so far, lol).
Question for all you medically trained folks, if I have to beat my insulin resistance (I am on metformin 1 g a day)- do I have to loose weight first or inches? I find it hard to lose weight, but inches are peeling off (slowly).
Will try not having sweets the rest of the week…

Lotus, can’t answer your question, but, if inches are peeling off, isn’t that what matters too? Your shape will be changing too. Most of us find, even if the scales don’t seem to move, the tape measure does, the clothing is getting looser, your size goes down, but I don’t think it will be long before you see positive movement on the scales. Sorry, can’t be any more help, just keep going as you are, you are doing well. Treats are always there to tempt us, our AUSSIE DETERMINATION doesn’t always stop us, our mind set leaves and that little devil on our shoulder says”oh bugger it..go for it…” And we give in, then berate ourselves later….have you checked with your Doctor that 5:2 is okay for you?…have a happy day…CG xxx
