  • GG1 nothing I make is an exact measure but I weigh it as I make it and log it into MFP in the recipe section as well as the amount of serves and it works it out;
1/4 cabbage shredded finely (savoy is best but not always available)
    1 good size carrot
    1/2 red capsicum finely sliced
2 stalks of celery, chopped up mouth size
Good hand full of chopped parsley
Light 99%fat free mayo, enough to stir through and coat the veg(or low fat coleslaw dressing but I use what’s in the fridge, why have more expense)
I often put pineapple pieces in juice drained in too, gives it a lovely flavour and use some of the juice too in with the mayo
    Salt and pepper to taste
That’s about it I think, never the same twice, depends on the veg of course, but so so easy, very low cal, fresh and last up to a week in the fridge if you make a large enough amount. I try to make it colourful so and evenish amount of vegs but mostly cabbage. Also cut hard cores out of cabbage before using.
    I hope you enjoy…CG xxx

Hi team …. just for interest. There is a relationship in neck size & airway obstruction.Women have a greater amount of fat deposition in their lower airway as compared to men who have fat deposition in their upper airways.
There are several other interesting factors which come into play as to why we snore…. 1-The anatomy of the facial bones of the face.2- thyroid conditions, menopause.4- diabetes.5-Hormones. Not to mention other symptoms/conditions such as headaches , fatigue, sleeplessness and depression. Hence the reason why measurements of the neck are important…. AGAIN ….. ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL BEFORE EMBARKING ON ANY LIFESTYLE CHANGE TO BE SURE SO NO FUTURE CONCERNS ARISE…….GO GAL

Uptight, go into tracker on mfp, and enter your weight from now, or dates and weight further back if it lets you, each time you enter a new weight, weekly, it will graph it for you, tracker is in MORE at the bottom of the page…CG xx

Gg thats why on this site we are asked to measure our neck in the tracker section I guess…CG

Happy FD everyone! Mine hasn’t started yet. Catching up tomorrow.

GG1, silly me I forgot the onion, I use spring onions if I have them or 1/2 red onion thinly sliced, I’m sorry, it just came to me…xxxx CG

    Thanks. Sorted!

Just had 2 lettuce wraps for lunch and am I chocka’s…just large iceberg lettuce leaves, lined with tuna (in spring water) grated carrot over top, hard bailed egg sliced and a baby boccini, salt and pepper…so so yum and juicy 197cals..I don’t usually have lunch but after shopping and early start, when unpacking the veg’s (when I realised about the onion missing from the recipe) really got the hungries. So still enough cals for a chicken breast nice and herby with coleslaw… 🙂 CG xx

Thanks for motivating me download this ticker from MFP. Good way to track progress. Thanks ADs, Now lets see if it works.

Wow CG, great choice for lunch again!!! well done. Its going to be a wrap for me for dinner today now…LOL. You are inspiring me for food choices as well now…

Thanks CG. I’ve copied it into my recipes and called it CG’s Coleslaw. I’ll try it on my next fast day, yum.

How do I download it..the ticker, it wont let me download it saying my email and password is already being used? Thanks guys for any help…CG xx feeling quite computer illiterate!

    Hi all

Ruxton if you need to eat…eat a hard boiled egg…in the time it takes you to boil it you will have time to either decide do you really need it…and if you do thats OK….ENJOY every bite!

Welcome to the new people starting 5:2!

FAST DAY today! Going well this week my head seems to be in the right place.Just feeling great…not bothered if the scales show a loss tomorrow!

I have had poached eggs and toast at 12.30am….and LOTS of water and Rooibos tea.I am going out tonight to see Les Miserable in Perth.Cant wait!

    Hang in there guys….VM

CG, go to MFP, click on “Apps” on top of the page, then click on “Ticker”. Choose the ticker design and customize it if you want to. Then click on “Get code for the ticker” Copy HTML code from there and paste it here and it should work…
    Hope this helps!!!

FB I tried all that, even followed their direction which said click on more tools, blowed it I can find more tools anywhere. Maybe I’m holding my tongue wrong! Not to bother, gone this long without it, haven’t needed it, my tracker on MFP keeps the records so I’ll do without, thanks for your help anyway.
Has anyone else noticed how the fridge shrinks through the summer months? With so much salad stuffs, fruit, stir fry sauces etc etc and the made coleslaw I did the other night, I’m waiting for something to jump out at me each time I get a drink out of it.
FB, that wrap is lovely with a squeeze of fresh lemon over it too, my tree is laden with lemons but still green so didn’t have any or think to mention it.
    CG … 😉 xx

Hello all ADs! Fast day again today and going well…..is hubby’s first one and think he’s struggling a bit, but I am here to give him heaps of support…..he chose a modified version of his breakfast….I did my best but could only get it down to 245 cals….then he had a home made boost juice and banana for lunch 162 cals…..that leaves him only 193 for dinner…..should be OK with some lean steak and large salad…..I’m encouraging him to try and skip breakfast next fast day so he can have more cals for lunch etc….he is being very positive though and already saying that he feels less bloated…..he has a lot of tummy fat to lose…
Way to go FB…..you will blow our February goal of 70kg out of water…..very, very proud of you 🙂
I’m still working towards 70 by end of Feb….hopefully 73 by end of January..

Nice to see you are back GG….I’ve been on-line, but not posting much..

Well done evryone and keep on going, we can do this!

    Testing

As to cauliflower rice, seems its best to freeze it raw in an air tight bag, so i’m gonna try that
I just use a little bench top slicing grating machine, i got one from aldi for $20 but theres another brand you can buy are about $80, saves getting out a big food processor
Keep up the determination folks 🙂

Hay CG…. did the broc bail up the egg or was it the carrot over the top of it?LOL LOL…..Sorry just could not resist the pun! ……GO GALxx

I’m lost GG, what did I do or type wrong?

Got it, my lunch, bailed egg instead of boiled egg….typo sorry xx

had the coleslaw for dinner instead of roast veggies …. so delicious CG thanks …GO GALxx

Had a modified version of wrap CG. Made it all vegetarian. Added split yellow lentils baked patty (homemade) instead of chicken and enjoyed every bite! Thanks CG

Great recipe CG…..that is exactly how I make mine except for parsley, will add that next time I make it!

How is your hubby going with 5:2 FB?

Glad you all liked it…I had the coleslaw tonight with a chicken breast, sprinkled some Texan spices on it and thought I’d add something else, so sprinkled chilli powder both sides, boy was that a hot move so had a tablespoon of sour cream over the chicken to take some heat out and boy, was it yum, so I’ll do that in future ( another one for you to try) .. 🙂 CG xxx by the way, you can add other fresh veg to you coleslaw, gherkins or corn kernels are nice in it too, but I love pineapple through it the most or the whole lot…CG xx

FB, it’s wonderful what you CAN wrap in a lettuce leaf instead of anything made with dough! Makes a low cal yummy meal, even savoury mine is nice when you have a bit left over, usually best eaten in private or the bath like mangos too…CG xx

Ah – second FD done and dusted. an hour and a half to bed time and not hungry. What I want to know is – I got through the day on coleslaw and light dressing around 1ish with lots of water and black tea – felt good but when I ate dinner of chicken and mixed veges, my heart started racing and I felt light headed. I assume this is an insulun rush or something. can anybody shed light in this phenominum?

Weigh day tomorrow – will see how I did. I kind of looked forward to the FD today. (please note everybody that I am getting the hang of the acronmyms) Got through on 300 odd cals. COuld this be the problem with the light headedness and heart thumping I experienced?

Anyway – good night to you all. I look forward to seeing what is written tomorrow.

I don’t know Ruxton, I have had that occasionally, don’t know if it’s an adrenalin rush, the anticipation of the fast day but never light headed. Maybe if it happens again you better have a chat to your Dr. It’s been very hot too, did you rush home, get caught in traffic. Could be anything but don’t ignore it a second time. When I had it, it lasted about 5-10 seconds only so no big deal, and only very few times. Keep a check on it, also 300 cals is very low, you don’t need to starve yourself, you can eat up to 500, I doubt it will make much difference to your loss, same as going over 50, makes no difference except you do get cross at yourself. Have a nice evening..CG xx

Ha ha ha CG, like the idea of eating in private.
Foxy, hubby is flying with 5:2. Two and half weeks in and he has lost 5.3 kgs. I think I have been able to meet my January target ecoz of him being with me in this WOL.
He is very happy with tge results.
Only problem is that he thinks that he will continue to loose at this pace 🙂 🙂
And Foxy thanks for acknowledging my weigh in 🙂

Hello 19Aly, I sometimes get a cauliflower and sweet potatoe mash from this paleo place near work. I reckon when cooked you can just force it through a sieve and it would come out nice or mash with a fork. It seems to have a nice enough consistency to be able to freeze.

Good idea I should make some of that too to give me quick veggie with protein on fast days. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Team, just back from MelbVegas on the choo choo (much nicer than the crazed drive on the Calder). 88.7 kg this morning. Not losing but not gaining weight either. But. Absolutely gaining fitness. Stretched yesterday’s walk to 5 km and pushed hard but not crazy – a great walk and really these days feeling fitter and stronger and sleeping so much better. The love of my life tells me I no longer snore so she sleeps better too. Clothes are looser. If I lose weight hooray. But if I avoid type 2 diabetes, now that is a real win.

FB….you are an inspiration! I am hoping that by my hubby doing 5:2 that he will spur me on too! Poor thing he has taken himself off to bed after dinner (6:30) because he feels so hungry….he loves his dinner and eats a lot so it will take some getting used to….I will tell him your hubby’s results, maybe that will give him encouragement…

And thank you FB for answering and commenting on my post 🙂 🙂

Andrew has your neck size decreased? I read in THE BOOK that snoring has to do with the size of your neck…..my hubby snores like a trooper and has excess weight on his neck…great that you are enjoying your exercise and pushing your boundaries 🙂

Hi Andrew, I don’t understand why you are not loosing weight. You work so hard at it. Have you thought of maybe changing you fast day food, mix it up a bit, our system will get used to anything if it’s regular so giving you no benefits. I realise you go the easy reliable food way but it’s just a suggestion, even on your feed days, do you mix them about with variety? I just worry about you mate, with all you do it should be showing on your scales by now. Are you tracking your weekly intake, just to keep stock of what you actually do eat, maybe that needs looking at. Take care Andrew, we are here for you… I know the health bebefits are great but getting those extra kilos off is just as important…. CG 🙂 xxx

Foxy, poor hubby, haha, just shows who the weaker sex is doesn’t it? Have a lovely (quiet) evening my friend…CG :). Xxx

Well, the end of week two with a weigh-in tomorrow morning. Not expecting too much though as I’ve had grandkid days this week so my ‘feast’ days were rather more than I usually have. Chose not to be a pain about what I ate and I enjoyed the company as well as the goodies. Can’t play a decent board game without them!
Had the Birds Eye Thai Curry and coconut frozen fish portion with some of my own coleslaw and it was terrific. Such good calorie value. Forgot about coleslaw until read CG’s post – thanks CG it is a nice change from steamed veg. When you read other posts in different threads you realise why Mimi and Michael harp on about veggies but most Aussies eat quite a bit I think. Have to start looking at soup recipes to have on hand and freeze so I don’t get stuck again.
Cooling down so can start thinking about bed. See you in the morning 🙂

Andrew, maybe you’re building muscle? Muscle weighs more than fat.

I just found out scampi are only 65kcal/100g so guess who’s eating a scampi stir fry for dinner tonight. I can’t wait. I’ve never had scampi on a FD before. So excited.

Morning all AUSSIE DETERMINATORS……What will the needle on the scales reveal today for us?
For me, after last weekends indulgence some good news….
    SW-82.2kgs….CW-73.5kgs……Total loss of 8.7kgs, GW-70kgs by April
The scale gods have been good to me.

The most fantastic thing is there is room to move in all of my clothes…. down 2 dress sizes in 18 wks of 5:2.

MY mantra of the 4 P’s and the 10min rule are working.

The 4 P’s are……PLANNING, PREPARATION, PATIENCE AND PERSISTANCE.
The 10min rule….If you are hungry ,wait 10 mins before eating and you may not feel as hungry after waiting. I apply this on my fast days.

FOXY & FB….Such wonderful mentors for your hubbies…. they will thank you,I am sure as their journey progresses with their new WOL.
Hope the scale gods are in your favour today team! Have a wonderful day……GO GAL xx

Morning all. Still quite early up here on the Goldy. Rain is waking me up! The garden is just crazy, and I can’t do a thing in it.
Foxy, I did laugh at your poor hubby going to bed early, poor sausage…he’ll get used to it 🙂
I love coleslaw, too CG, and also sauerkraut (had to go to the fridge for the spelling! lol )60g is only 7 cals. When it was on special at Aldi I bought about 8 jars! Love it.
Andrew, if your clothes are looser and you’re not snoring it sounds like you are getting smaller, the damned scales just play tricks I think.
Had a go at the mushroom goulash, that keeps popping up on peoples fave recipes. It was good, very filling, too!
Weighed in this morning and a small shift downward .3 so no pouts for me. Have noticed, too that my bra isn’t as “full” as it used to be! Hopefully the E” is turning into a “DD” would love to be a “C” again!
Good luck with weigh ins all, but don’t let it get you down if it’s not a big loss. It’s being healthy, that counts. And we all seem to be having yummy food, so what more could we want!
Have a great day Determined Aussies, we will all succeed!
    xx Linda

    Good morning team

Dropped 400g this week getting ther slowly.

Have increased the exercise to Andrew and am fitter and stronger than I have been in 10 years. I am nearly lighter than I have been over the 10 years as well. I love the way the exercise makes me feel.

Does anybody else have the problem that you don’t want food so fun it difficult to menu plan for the weeks shopping, my family are no help they just want pasta which I have stopped eating, it makes me feel sleepy and bloated.

    Happy weigh in day everyone

    Have a great day.

    Bali

Well done Go Gal! You must be feeling great! I like your four Ps mantra, too. Makes a lot of sense.

Well done Bali! Slow and steady is the way to go.
I don’t have pasta either. I have the bol on a bed of shredded lettuce. It’s yum!
And yeah…when shopping I just seem to glide down the isles and look but not with a lot of interest. But the veg section….that’s different!
    All for he better.

Thanks LINDANAF….. it is a mantra for all of us.
BALI- Give the slendier ( KONJAC)noodles a try . they come in spag also. They are in the health food section at Coles or Woolies See if the family like them with their favorite sauce… then you can enjoy it as well…….GO GAL

    Morning Everyone,
I hope you all have a great day today. Good luck with the weigh-in. I will post my success on Monday as that is the day of my chosen weigh-in. It keeps accountable on the Sunday… :-).
It is my husbands Birthday today and he wanted a Webber Family Q,so guess we will be having a BBQ for dinner tonight….I was going to have a fast day but will have a fast morning and afternoon instead….
I need to remember the old saying. “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!!!!”

    Have an awesome day….

First weigh in since I started – SW 95.4 todays wieght is 94kg. I am happy with that number – really happy but a niggle at the back of the head says it is fluid and past history says it wont last! This is as much a head thing as a weight thing.

Morning ADs. Weigh Day. SW-110kgs….CW-103.6kgs……Total loss of 6.4kgs. GW-80kgs by June. Off to work now, will look in later today.

Hi all, Not such a good week for me. We went away for the weekend and ate out . Monday’s fast was good but I broke yesterday’s fast and then a bad attitude of ‘well I’ve blown it now’ even had me stopping in at shops to buy an ice-cream, which is something I never do. I will have a fast day today with a much better attitude. I too will make coleslaw. The scales weren’t as bad as what I felt I deserved- put on 400 grams. It’s so good to read the posts here for encouragement

Good morning team, slept in so late for me posting this morning. Your such a great bunch for helping and suggestion, so so helpful. I find to Supermarkets don’t have any interest anymore, I go to Aldi now and straight to the veg section too. Their stock is so much fresher than Safeway(fresh food people…who are they kidding) Aldi veg lasts like it used to. Freezers are full of soups etc as well as meats etc bought over time, but because I’m eating so much less it’s lasting, in fact I love when the family comes down so I can start moving a few things, often give my daughter a joint to take home to roast.
Any way, my weighin…I DID IT. YAHOOOO, I’VE FOUND A 7 ON MY SCALES.
Today I hit the 20k loss mark
SW 99.5 MFP then counted cals from 1/6/14 lost 6 k then joined 5:2 Sept
CW 79.5k …can you believe it? I was about to take my scales back thinking their lowest point was in the 80’s
So over all 20k’s in 7 months and so very impressed. Anyone starting out or in the midst of a plateau, keep going, don’t even think of giving up, our 5:2 works, the journey is long, it’s for life, so what’s the rush? You are so much healthier, you have communication with a great bunch of Aussies who don’t judge, they support you every day of your journey. You are AUSSIE DETERMINATION…YOU CAN DO IT…YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND ABOVE ALL, IT WORKS…have a great day team, don’t sweat the small stuff… 😆 …CG xxx

Catherine00, my hubby and I bought a Webber Q for our Christmas present! Love it! and you can do really healthy stuff on them. The roast chicken and veg is awesome. That’s what I plan to have tonight.
Ruxton24 , 1.4 is a great loss! it’s down , so you’re going in the right direction. Do you use the tracker here? Mine looks like a lightening strike! Zig zag, down, down, up , down, up, down ,down. So long as the downs outway the ups, in the long run you’ll get there 🙂
Judyf…bugger! Don’t you hate yourself when you get into that mindset. Good idea to get back up on the bike after falling off. Next week will be much better. Try Go Gals’s mantra the 4 Ps ( above ) they make a lot of sense 🙂

GG1 I’m so thrilled for you, don’t you find the scales dropping dose give you the extra incentive you need to keep going. Don’t forget to measure your self too.
GG check your figures my love, something is not calculating, maybe you had a typo?
Ruxton, see, it is starting to move, keep it up
Waiting for other members with their news, come on team…CG xxx

WOW !!COUNTRYGAL YOU DID IT!!! I just read your post. That is so awesome! You must be brimming today 🙂 I bet you had a double take looking at the scales this morning! Did you get on and off a few times, just to check lol !
    Happy dances all round !!!
