  • CG! Yay!!!!! I am so glad that you are getting your money back from PayPal 🙂 I hope they go after the rip-off merchants and that they make them pay back every penny plus more!

Dawg- you may need to soak a few mushrooms, then weigh them so that you can get an approximate of how many make 100 grams. Otherwise…you could google how many calories in each mushroom and it shouldn’t make a difference if they are dry, soaked or fresh 🙂 hope this helps.

Happy fasting for tomorrow 🙂 I have had a BIG weekend and really need the fast- I have really enjoyed my B’day weekend 🙂

Hi there how are you all today was my weigh in and yes I lost another 1.4kg so in 2 weeks that makes it 4kg I am over the moon this is the easiest health kick I have ever tried and I am enjoying it now my husband has started this morning with me this will make things a little easier hope you are all going well until next week on Monday .

Hi all. Thanks Taco I will do as you suggest re the mushrooms. They do become plump when rehydrated so must weigh more. I wish some enterprising Aussie would startup a 5:2 Diet Kitchen here. I’d be more than happy to support them. I don’t like cooking. Guess I’m just lazy.
FD here too. I’ve just come back from a long, strenuous walk with Pepper. We did all the steep hills in the area so I’m feeling a tad sanctimonious.
Enjoy the day team and remember to keep the fluids up.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well 🙂 I think I may have eaten all my calories the day- oh well, lots of tea for me then – I have a long day ahead of me, I’ll be home around 8 🙁
    Lots of tea 🙂

Up – I love shiitake mushrooms , they are very filling 🙂

Oh dear, Taco. Good luck with the tea! I haven’t started with the food yet because it will awaken the dragon!
Swish, that’s great and it is really good when other halves join in. It does make it so much easier. Some days I get up and the eggs have already been boiled!

I am keeping busy today, gardening etc. I find it the best way to get through. Doggie, I have been to the dog park and throwing balls around. Having my boy makes me get out there and move!
    Have a good day all!

Thanks up 🙂 I’m sipping more tea, I also have a stock cube in my handbag . Lol, it’s the emergency one. I’m marking like a woman possessed- trying to keep busy as the concert does not start till 6pm- no use going home, the traffic will eat up marking time 🙂 My fur babies will need to walk with their dad tonight , no mum for walkies.
Swish 🙂 well done, what an awesome loss.
I’ll try and catch up later , it seems we are all so busy. xx

Taco, you hang in there YOU CAN DO IT, Upt, I’m with you, no solid food yet either, just not hungry and been busy today and quite painful, so no reall “off” time to think of food OR snacks. 🙂
Swishwhat a terrific loss for you, it really becomes addictive once you see those numbers go down.
I put a big pot of veggie soup on about an hour ago so that will be dinner, the rest to be frozen in portion sizes for ease. Got a few answers from my Dr today, he did show compassion, which helps, he did reinterate it is a long path, to take it easy and not to push myself, maybe another couple of weeks even before tackling the broom or mop but said water aerobics should be okay. I’m having a “hit by a truck” type afternoon, so the couch is looking good for now then an early night…some days a diamond some days a stone aye 🙂
Hang in there team, not long to fast now, you’ll be glad you did and keep telling yourself. THIS IS FOR YOU, no one else, it’s self gratification, self satisfaction self appreciation 🙂 self worth and self love 🙂 xxxxxxxx

must say CG, I see only the diamond’s brilliance when I read your words. Such inspiration. Thank you, once again that AUSSIE DETERMINATION has come my way, woke up thinking I was going to try,but I’m going to smash this FD day now!

Thanks Melina, that means a lot xxxx

It is amazing CG just how you manage to find the right words to keep us all going despite your own trials!
I’m glad your GP could help and understands where you are coming from. Rest up, tomorrow is another day! xx

    Hello fellow determinators 🙂
    I have been so, so busy that had no time to post all weekend and today… I read about your trials at PayPal, and your doc’s visit. {{hugs, dear CG}}
    Swish – well done!
Taco, Upt, YY, Milena, Dawg, Fit – well done on hanging in there!!
Taco – belated happy birthday. May all your dreams come true.
I had an undisciplined eating weekend as made unplanned meal stops but also a very successful FD today (both thanks to being super busy 🙂 )…

Big hello wave to all you friends…. Byeeee for now xxx

Oh Upt, this is really testing my own strength, these are the times I wish there was someone to cuddle me 🙁 but I have probably been through worse and survived and will this…….

Well done Lotus, stay strong, almost bed time 🙂 YOU CAN DO IT, nice hot drink then into zzzzland 🙂 xxxx

    Oh CG! I wish I was there to cuddle you in person … Sending you some hope and cyber hugs {{{}}}
    xxx

Hello all, with 17 hours behind you it is hard to give in the moment support but I hope that for those of you who fasted yesterday, hurrah! Well done! Thanks for all the inspiration and sharing of struggles.

I will be fasting tomorrow and find that my body seems to understand and respond to fasting much better now. The last couple of fasts were very easy, and found that I was not hungry really, and it was a challenge to get my dinner down. Perhaps our bodies do really want a rest.

I am sure I will have my tough days and when i do it is so helpful to be able to check in with you all here. Thanks for all your inspiration and CG, hope you are having a better day.

Not to rub it in, but it’s going to be another really hot day here in Portland. Record heat this year. Many folks are letting the lawns go. The planet is struggling and I am seeing small gestures more now. So happy to see this. We pulled our lawn up in front and planted a vegetable garden and I have eggplants coming out of my ears.msee neighbors walk by and stop and comment. “Gee I never thought to do that” all these front lawns that no one spend any time in, sucking up water and for what? I am hoping this inspires others. And sorry if I appear on my soap box. Not trying to sound judgemental. Have determined to use less water and what I am using is being thought out more carefully. We are putting in a water capturing system for next year, but frankly this is all we could get accomplished right now.
I know your all waiting for your Sprinig to arrive, and then I will see the slow assent into winter. In the meantime, stay warm and I hope you all have a lovely day. Be kind to yourselves.

Hello Raven! Thank you for a lovely post… I think replacing lawns is great idea! As many Aussies will concur, we do our best to conserve water too, because most of the land is arid. In urban areas, there are community gardens that have fruits and vegetables planted for all to enjoy (I saw one in a traffic island!). I hope many more such places are allocated for these too, but with rising land values there seems to be tilt to build high density housing rather than gardens. I think a mix of the two in urban areas – high density housing with self sufficient community gardens in lower levels would nice 🙂

Oh and have a great fast day today! Don’t worry about time difference in supporting this forum, as there will always be someone who will be happy to respond or be encouraged. And that way we can boast of 24/7 support!

For those on this side of the pond- non fast day today 🙂
I have made healthy lunches for today and tomorrow so I don’t get tempted at work 🙂

This recipe says it’s a 40 calorie Mediterranean Ratatouille. Interesting if it’s true 😉

CG, sorry we can’t give hugs! It probably is perfectly okay to wallow in feeling sorry for yourself for a while. A bit like feeling better after a good cry, and then go back to being stoic. Of course, I have no idea what I am talking about but it sounds good to me!

Raven, don’t worry, I’ll bet many of us are on your wave length. Yesterday on FB I shared a post from a news website fact checker that Australia is the sunniest continent, even more so than Africa, just. We should be fully embracing clean, renewable energy in my opinion. If countries like Germany, which is always grey and dreary when I have been there, can do it, there is no excuse for us. It is great that you are inspiring those around you.

My sister is currently river cruising in Europe. The drought is so bad that the ship can’t get down some places. They have had to unload people and luggage and everything else to get the boat light enough to get down and then get everyone back on. The planned finish in the Black Sea has been cancelled and they have to go somewhere else. Things must be bad if the Danube is so low. I think of Europe as having loads of water.

I am lucky, now that I am back in Aus, I am in a warmer part so it will be 26 here today and I think we have seen all we are going to see of winter in my state.

I managed my fast OK, I am aiming to get back to that 64.9 I was so chuffed about, temporarily, as it turned out! Cheers, all.

Good morning team, thank you for the love team, I do feel it. Upt, what a fantastic result for you, I can imagine how thrilled you are. On the climate change issue, we all remember back to when we were kids and the weather during our holidays. Summer was a summer and Winter was a real winter….now our servere weather is at any time. Our gardens are confused as to when to flower so often I think, gee “their” up early! We see so much of it on our telly on the news nightly. Floods, land slides, fires etc. Maybe these things did happen in our childhood but we weren’t privvy to it? The Elnino effect was a new word which became part of our vocabulary and Australia suffered through that awfully long drought. That was when I was building my home and starting to landscape my garden. I decided to become pretty self sufficient with water tanks and solar hot water, recently solar panels for electricity. Our planet is suffering world wide and does need our help, why has it taken so long for people to realise? Water is our most precious commodity and needs conserving. When I plant something it gets looked after till established then it’s on it’s own. My garden is a bit of ” sink or swim” for that reason, it does toughen things up as they are in the wild. Mulching is my greatest alliance and now IS the time to start. With this winter being so damn cold, first actually for a few years, usually means a stinker of a Summer to follow….so prepare 🙂 If you can afford a small water tank if living in the burbs, get one for your garden, they come in so many shapes and sizes to fit anywhere 🙂 and of course a stinker of a Summer means fires which frighten the bjesus out of me being in the country 🙁 Our lives are so precious as is our planet.
Off the soap box now, but it all really touches my core, even to over spending on small sheds for protection for my cows and sheep….summer or winter 🙂 they are very cosy
Have a wonderful day team, YOU are very important, YOU are the one who needs self preservation, with diet, good foods, plenty of fluids, surround yourself with love and support, don’t give the negative people space in your life, they take wasted energy. Age seems to allow that to happen, but it shouldn’t, it should be realised at any time. We are influenced by our surroundings by people in our lives, either family or at work, neighbours whatever. Why do we put up with them. YOU get one go at this life and it’s up to YOU to live it as you wish. Manners don’t need to suffer by it, the choice is yours how you handle it 🙂 YOU are number one in all you do so be happy be positive and it reflects in all you do 🙂 xxxxxx

Hi team. It seems as though we have a lot in common and that’s not only the 5:2. I’m really fed up with those who still believe in the flat earth and do not want to face the fact that we need to be looking for renewable energy sources and not polluting our planet with antiquated coal mining. Although we do have a lawn of sorts I never waste water on it. Actually I seldom water anything in the garden as all my plants are drought resistant Australian natives. I used to be a avid veggie gardener but with a combination of plagues of rabbits and crook knees I’ve had to abandon the practise. I’ve some lovely neighbours who often supply us with their surplus though.
I’ve just read an interesting couple of posts re ” does when you eat matter” someone suggests that one should allow fasting for 16 hours before ketosis occurs. This is when our bodies start to use our stored fat for fuel. I don’t agree. Any nurse will tell you that they can smell Diabetic urine with ketones. When I was on the Atkins diet I was defiantly in ketosis. Symptoms were frequent trips to the loo overnight. Plus strong smell of Ketones. This is because it is a low carb diet. One was allowed 20 gms of carbs if my memory suits me correctly. As I’ve said before I did lose weight but it was not sustainable. I think my longest stint was 3 months. This way of eating is so much better.
I found yesterday’s FD quite hard going. I was OK till about 3pm. I’m thinking that the hot Jarah chocolate drink may cause an Insulin spike that makes me hungry. On Thursday I’m going to try something different. I’m not a huge Vegemite fan so that’s out. So a bit of detective work is for me.
    Enjoy the day team.
Nice to see you back Lotus.

So much to read, so little time 🙂 Lovely to hear from you Lotus, Raven. Taco, Swish and Milena.

CG thankyou for your encouraging posts even when you are down in health yourself. Expecting you to wake up one morning and just know there has been a shift in your pain levels, so take heart. Look for that morning {{ }}.

Doggie maybe you could try making some iced tea. Know it is still cold in Tassie but I find I can drink it whatever the temp. T 2 flavoured teas are great. Do you have access to that store? I too gave in to the hot chocolate drink yesterday afternoon with OH and found much the same thing. Of course having him home made yesterday a bit of a challenge. Have to think of ways around it.

Up you won’t have trouble with salads if the weather is around 26 so expect you will be back at pre holiday weight? in no time.

Made my version of chicken n almond for dinner last night. Was surprised it worked out at a good calorie count. Will polish it up and post in recipes today in case you all are looking for something different.
    YY xx

Lotus 🙂 thank you 🙂 I was bad during the weekend and I’m hoping not to see that dreaded 86 again ever! I’m trying to make healthy choices 🙂

Dawgy – have you tried a vegetarian stock cube – some are between 6 and 12 calories – they save me when it’s cold or I need something salty. I stay away from the Vegemite broth as I only like my Vegemite on buttered toast or white buttered bread 🙂

Yum Yum- recipe sounds great 🙂

CG – thank you for your encouragement 🙂 it got me through the fast. I hope you are on the mend 🙂

Hi all. I ate sensibly yesterday and was enjoying another warm day in the garden but over did it and ended up spending the afternoon drugged up with back spasms. I may have had a couple of glasses of red to drown my sorrows!

No spasms today so while it will be 27, there will be no gardening as it is still delicate. So frustrating when you have plans and things go wrong! Trying to do my 10,000 steps but only managed a few under 7,000.

Well, the sun is shining so I will be happy today. Hope it is shining wherever you are too!

Also Dawg – have tried Miso Soup? Very filling for 30 cals and no sugar/sugar sub to spike insulin.

Good morning team, heading off to my chiro shortly to see if he can help with some of this unnecessary leg pain. He seems to have the knack of just loosening me up which in turn makes movement so much easier. I’m sipping on my mango and greek yohurt smoothie as I type. I don’t have breakfast anyday, but these seem to satisfy till mid arvo and I tell myself it’s all goodness 🙂
Upt I sympathise with the back spasms, be careful, that was always a mojor problem for me 🙁 they are not easy to put up with.
I’m planning a pretty relaxing day when I get back, more healing time, arvos are the toughest I guess by then I’ve been on my feet for quite some time pottering with housework etc.I invested in a robot vac yesterday so that takes the problem away of worrying about floors for me. It’s great on all the open tiled areas as well as the low pile carpet in the family room, just doesn’t like the plush pile in the lounge and bedrooms, not to worry, as long as the main walk areas are done 🙂
Remember your portion control team and food choices, even when not fasting, they are worth taking note on 🙂 We are here for each other so if it’s getting a bit tough for you, share it wth us, YOU ARE NOT ALONE, others are probably going through the same problems. Please don’t feel a failure that’s the beauty of sharing 🙂
Have a great day team xxxxxxxx

Hi everyone. Thanks Yum Yum, Taco, Lotus for your suggestions re FD drinks. Lotus I made a Miso soup drink a day or so ago. I’m having it tomorrow. I’ll also have a look at our local SM for low cal stock cubes. I really like that hot chocolate Jarrah but it is very sweet and think that Aspartamine is probably as bad as sugar.
Despite having a slightly painful knee (bloody old age) I was able to get out for a nice long walk this morning. Yes having a dog certainly encourages one to get out and have a walk.
CG I’m glad you found your GP compassionate. I hope you are having a better day today.
Does anyone have an iPad? Since installing the latest update from Apple I’ve found that everything seems to run slower or is unresponsive. Welldone Apple! Also my audiobooks have suddenly disappeared from my iPhone. Not happy.
I’m not Gay but have friends who are. Once again our politicians have rejected same sex marriage. They really are a bunch of dinosaurs. Why can’t they just come to terms with the fact that homosexuals can’t help being the way they are. Anyhow that’s me off my soapbox now.
    XX Doggy

CG I’ve just read about your robot vac. I’ve been thinking of getting one myself. We have a big house and I find the vacuuming very trying. I might treat myself to one too. I hope your chiropractor is able to help you.
Up I too can sympathise about your back spasms. They can be very painful. Do take care.
    XX

CG, you reminded me about a recipe for mango lassi which is from the 21 day wonder diet that my family once did. It was successful but too much like hard work!

Anyway, my husband reckoned it was the best drink he had ever had. It is 143 calories I think. Here is a link to some site that has it.
    http://www.food.com/recipe/mango-lassi-21-day-wonder-diet-day-3-359009

I’m with you Doggie, I have many gay friends too. I thought politicians were supposed to reflect the views of those they represent. Silly me.

I have a robot vac, though currently out of order. Yes, great for my wooden floors. Mine doesn’t like the fringe on my rug though and has a space attack about it. Others don’t seem to have this problem. Mine is a robomaid. Some other brands may be better. I was quite happy with it.

Hi Upt, there are some lovely recipes for fish I saw on that site, did you lose any weight when you followed the 21 day diet, what I saw sounds easy and yummy. My smoothie was only a couple of tablespoons greek yoghurt original and a couple of hig handfulls of frozen mango plus 3 big strawberries, very easy and yummy and I think healthy. Unsure of cals, but a good summer morning drink 🙂 too…….my robotic vac doesn’t like the mat fringe either so learning what to get out of its way still but happy enough that I now don’t need to sweep the tiled area which is ALL the walking area in my home so quite big. So even when back to “normal” (well as normal as I get 🙂 ) I will still use it daily for convenience. It was a cheaper one from Crazy Sales here in Aus and nothing I’ve seen seems to like a plush carpet they all have a hissy fit and get stuck?
Well my chiro didn’t let me down, my leg and butt muscles were rock hard so with some manipulation and acupuncture I feel so much looser 🙂 going back next week as well as pysio and will start walking in the local heated pool….all in all should be fit and well come late spring/Summer, one can only hope 🙂
Pale blue almost white sky but sun shining through, makes you feel good, so off for a walk to feed my sheep, then a bit of lunch in front of a movie.
Have a lovely day, remember; idle hands…….gets the munchies happening 🙂 xxxxxxx

Oh Doggie yes I am having problems with my ipad, very slow, even going from one site to search for another it has to go back to google to start again and clear its memory. Frustrating!

Yes, CG, my husband and I both did it a few years ago. The blurb says 10kilos in 21 days but it means per couple. All recipes are for 2 people. We did lose 10! I lost 4 and my husband lost 6.
I found it straightforward and economical but you have to be super organised. At the time, we had 6 living in the house and tripling recipes meant a helluva lot of chopping!

5/2 is infinitely easier! That said, we have a few recipes that we like enough to keep as meals so got a lot out of it.

My Robomaid is made in Aus but you have to send it back to get it repaired, you buy it online so that is a downside and why I haven’t done anything about it!

Banana bread in the oven. Special treat. It is show day in Brisbane so everyone is at home but they are all still at their desks working!

Hello! Imam having iPhone/ iPad/ work computer issues all at once too! The work Comp is a windows system so go figure…
Anyway, just checking on your opinions etc on how fasting affects behaviour changes in relation to food ? In my case, I fast well on the two days, but my base eating habits haven’t become healthier- even a tad indisciplined imo, even after years of being on a disciplined diet. So 5:2 has not actually changed my eating habits much. But I do notice many of you all have become better eaters in general. Is it just me? Wondering how to make this effective as a way of life then… Having said that, I am not a major junk food eater, just not as disciplined as I should be to keep healthy… So I have lost weight and gained health but worried about sustainability!

I’m new today, and just posted in this thread for the first time although I can’t seem to find it anywhere!?!?

I guess I’ll have to do it all again….

Hi Shelltox, what do you mean you can’t find it? Check under Most Popular! In the forums 🙂 Welcome to our threat. We are all here to support and encourage you, 5:2 is very easy and doable and we have all had great success and still do. Check out your TDEE at the “how to” section at the top of the page so you know how many cals to eat on “normal” days. It’s a handy tracking app too. Please ask us any questions you have, we are here to help…CG xx

Lotus what do you think you are eating wrong? Is it portion control? You CAN have anything on NFD’s just watch the amount! If you crave carbs, chips, bread, rice, pasta etc, that does need some discipline. Sure, still have it OCCASIONALLY and just a small amount. Look, we all hit the odd pigout, but realise when it happens but if it’s quite a regular happening for you, go back to MFP to keep check of cals, that’s when reality hits….good luck xxxxxx

Like you, Lotus, I have always eaten well so in one sense that hasn’t changed. he big change for me is that I eat so much less every day. I used to eat portions that were too big but now don’t have to try to eat less. Maybe my stomach has shrunk.

CG – my craving for carbs has not decreased- the total calories are about 1450 – 1600 cals on non fast days, with enough greens etc, but can’t help mid afternoon unhealthy snack ( I had hot chips yesterday, fruit yoghurt today, got a slice of carrot cake last week… Got the drift?). Yes you are right, need more discipline, just don’t know why I feel so hungry on non fast days!
Recently doctor also started me on low dose of thyroid medication (slightly impaired thyroid so given for six weeks and she will check again). Does that affect hunger? Not that that’s an excuse as I have had this issue before the meds too!
UpT – I haven’t got to the stomach shrinking yet. Hopefully it will, and soon!

So, in other words, I just need to tighten the screws a bit on non fast days too…

Lotus, I know this is an iffy subject but what about LCHF on non fast days? You will find it more filling (full cream milk , yoghurt etc) it does really help me, even bacon and egg for breaky??? You don’t eat as much because it’s more filling than “lite” or ” low fat”, I have a smoothy some mornings, mainly for fruit intake (re constipation effects of codeine I’m on) and that with full fat yoghurt really holds me till mid arvo, then I make a cappuccino, might have cheese on cruskits with butter but only two….then dinner, mainly veg with a piece of meat (lamb chop WITH the tail 🙂 )
You can still do MFP to stay with in your TDEE but I’m never hungry, just a suggestion maybe just try it for a few days?? Xxxxxxx

Thanks CG. I’ll try it… xxx

Hi Lotus, I hear you 🙁 I have the same problem! We just need to understand that we are all different; I wish I would have a ‘shrunken appetite’ , thatI I would have the ability to exercise portion control on non-fast days-butI can’t! The secret is ; don’t have processed or junk food at home! If it’s not easy to grab from the pantry if it isn’t there 🙂 you are less likely to dress up to go and get it from woollies or IGA 🙂
    Either way; 5 2 makes/helps us loose weight and/or centimetres :(!

And Taco, I think there is a bit of defiance in all of us 🙂 if we think we are beating the system…we do! Let’s face it, we all get there in the end, some sooner than others, but what’s the rush, it’s OUR way of life so why not enjoy it 🙂 xxxxxx

Thanks Taco dear and you to CG xxx

Oh and CG, I don’t think LCHF or trying new ways eating on non-fast days iffy at all – I think I was the one who had thrown the LCHF bombshell some pages back in some random web blog post I had shared here 🙂

    Hi all,

Anyone else experience vomiting or nausea next day after FD. Happened last week but I thought I had a tummy bug. Serious vomiting episode last week and this week after first FD felt really nauseous after. Don’t feel inclined to fast today as still feeling slightly nauseous. Any ideas or thoughts as to why this might be happening? I don’t want to give up because 5:2 is working well for me but if this is going to happen maybe I should have more than 500 cal on FD.

This is such a great forum, everyone looking out for each other. Have a great week.
