  • Oh golly melina!
Lotus, I gained last week, got up to 78.2 grrrr, plateau was zig zagging again, I dropped the ball, only did one fast, then LCHF over the weekend. Over ate, just too much on my plate to think straight! Anyway this morning, just showered, 76.3k so that’s with ALL FF 🙂 . I am not eating anywhere near what I was, not that I was a big eater anyway, but you only need a teaspoon of butter to add to ….caulie, eggs, over your steak…all adds flavour but satisfying. Of course portion control is the big thing, but portions only need to be small because you don’t need to over load to feel satisfied. Definitely NO bread, flour…of any sort, dry biscuits are still flour, …sugars of any sort…..look it will take time to switch, and toss out all the chemically ladened low fat stuff in the pantry, salad dressings etc, but I’m giving it a go. My timing is way off at the moment of course, but taking my mind of the inevitable! It’s surprising how liberated I feel 🙂 just doing this. Steak, chicken (with skin) is about palm size and fresh vegs…with a dob of butter yummmm. I hate waste, but will get rid of the “poisons” in the pantry and get back to natural! Stay with it, watch The Diet Doctor, proof people! Xxxxxxxx

Oh Fit, I hurt because you do….please feel my cuddle 🙂 xxxx

Hi team. I have visitors about to arrive so have not had time to read all your posts. I will be MIA for a few days while they are here. CG, if I’m not mistaken you leave for Melbourne in a day or so and then it’s your op. I will be thinking of you and wish you all the best. Iteration that the op will be w great success and you will be pain free at last. I’m interested in your post Lotus re body adapting to different conditions. You are a learned lady you. I’m going to check that out when I get a chance. I also fancy the LCHF approach. I’m with CG I could and have eaten butter just as it is. Just love it on almost anything. Oh and the double Brie , bring it on.
Good luck to all of you with problems and issues in your lives.
    X X Dawg
PS Would anyone out there like a free dog who would be prepared to wake the roosters before daybreak? Pepper is more than in the dog box today. It was 4 Bloody am when he woke this morning. Tonight he’s sleeping in hubby’s room.

Morning all Fit I know exactly where you’re coming from & also can’t tell all my story but sending hugs to you to ease the heartbreak a little. You may find the same as me that because the crisis is family/family related that having a non-judgemental or non-related group such as AD’s is a great support. We don’t have to know all the details but we just need to know that you’re doing OK through it all. And if you’re not just let it all out don’t bottle it all up inside. Mine will also be a long-term heartache & some days are better than others but I’m getting stronger.
CG so glad that you’re weight has dropped back dramatically & that you’re soo enjoying the LCHF approach. Doesn’t matter about the timing at least you’ve got it sorted & can trial it more when you’re up & about. Have a good day organising the last few things & enjoy your girlfriend’s support & company. Hope the pain is not too bad for you. And yes I too have thrown out almost all of my LF/sugarladen dressings.
Ooh phooey now I can’t remember what I read on the last page! Gee it’s annoying. Lotus thanks for the tip re the intensity of HIT – need to research more like you do.
Mike I used to travel a lot for my job (almost every day) & I got into a really good routine of packing foods, bought some really nifty cooler bags that could take quite a few different containers. It’s doable so long as you’re organised. If you’re not (as I found) it becomes a nightmare grabbing whatever you can from shops you don’t know with fat-loaded menus or stuff that you THOUGHT looked healthy, until you had a few bites! So….use our motto Plan and Prepare and you’ll do well.
Lotus well done on the loss and breaking your plateau. You’ll suss it out with your family, just a few tweaks here & there to modify your food from the family’s.
Milena so glad you eventually got your son’s injury sorted, or at least on the way to sorted. I have osteoporosis and had to have stress fractures in both feet & then a broken wrist to get it diagnosed. 3 plasters. My GP who is also a good friend & neighbour 2 doors up felt so bad when the first foot stress fracture was found out. I used to walk to work up quite a steep hill & he would pass me & wave (had offered me lifts but it was my exercise for the day). It took us many months too to have a special dye test done to get a diagnosis and then he was soo apologetic – Oh Sue I used to pass you walking up that hill & your foot was swollen & all the time it was broken. I’m so sorry! He’s a lovely guy & was genuinely sorry that he hadn’t been able to get to the bottom of it.
Well better stop this monologue. Just had a yummy cahi latte to warm me up. Now going to look at the rest of my feed day. Feel like cooking something yummy – maybe your zucchini muffins CG (with butter of course!). suejen XXX

Fit …. wish I was there to share a coffee and just .. be there. Am in spirit anyway. (()) hugs.

Dawg get your visitors to wear Pepper out and don’t let him sleep during the day.
Mike good luck on starting your new job. Hard boiled eggs and soup make a filling lunch, easy to cart around too. La Zuppa make a tasty variety of mug soups for just 23 – 28 cals. Most grocery stores stock them, 2 foil packs to a box.
CG find the idea of LCHF reasonable but what about the ‘goodish’ carbs like rice, potato, bread? Love them and butter on bread – yummm.
Milena cracking up over the loo difficulties, not to mention your OH’s part in all this. Must be the age thing (presuming 60 or over?). Put him in the doghouse with Pepper for a bit 🙂

Gyps, Lotus, FB, SJ (great compliment you lucky thing), FB, GG, JM and any I have missed, have a lovely day. YY xx

ps: CG thinking about you xx

Just thinking about LCHF again, do you (CG and Lotus) mean only severely restricting carbs on FD’s or just not having any at all ever? 🙁

    Thank you Milena

I will certainly get some of that for him today.

    XX

Fit, I hope you are doing ok today, just read your post, lots of hugs to you and your family (())

SJ, congrats on the compliment, lucky you XX

CG, enjoy the time with your friend pre op, will be thinking of you. Forgot to mention that your puppies are just gorgeous.

    Gypsy, loved your poem.

Milena, hope your day get’s better

Thanks again everyone for the warm wishes and lots of ideas and advice. I know we will get through this, will take a couple of days off work with him this week and see the counsellor together.

    have a great day everyone

Good morning to the mob! (and that was supposed to be ‘nite’ not nit, Mike :- )

Fit, hearing your candle flicker, Macushla. Try to keep it shining. You know your family looks to you for a light at the end of any tunnel life drags them down. I know you. Some folk are putty, others are rocks. Then there are those who were just born the matrix in between, the malleable glue – the mortar that keeps bricks standing and the wax that holds the candle wick to the windows of home. Whatever it takes, they hold things together. I call them gems of the blarney stone. For their words are healing jewels in the well of darkness and their light twinkles, even in a sea of mud. You won’t break as long as you remember To open your window and let the burden they lay on you with their troubles, pass through your light to the arms of the guardians I see watching over you. Share what you feel to your cyberspace friends. Nobody needs details. Our collective love to you. xxx the gypsy

Thanks YY, just read your post from yesterday. He did call Beyond Blue last week, which I found surprising for him, but that was a good step to getting better I think.

    XX

So CG, just check out the ceiling of the operating room before they put you under, we’ll be doing a spot of astral travel to keep an eye on ya!

    Ode ta’ morpheous
    Ta’ hell with pain!

    Whatever ya’do
A lady of class (sooo small in the ass!)
    We’ll suck on the sav
    and drink to you, too!

Thanks you Gypsy you…luvit, couldn’t claim the small ass yet by any means, but obviously lost a lot of extra bulge in the thigh area! The pear shape is still there Hey they didn’t call me CBH at school for nothing. anyone know that one??? Oh and do I get to suck on the sav too Gyps? Sure will be doing so tonight. sj XX

DiiP good to see you dropping in.Hang in there as OH is obviously being brave & moving in the right direction. Great to hear. Little steps in the right direction are all he needs to concentrate on for now – and you too. XXXX

YY – on LCHF – I am still having a small amount of carbs (try to keep between 30- 40 gms per day, but that’s still well above what Paleo people have).
I am not going full-on in high-fat. Maybe good fats like avocado, olive oil, some butter, whole eggs and limited cheese ( does not suit my stomach now-a-days)
Good carbs like brown rice, lentils, potatoes with skin on, sweet potatoes with skin on and carbs from green vegetables and fruit (basically, any starch bound with fiber is a good guy). I worked out that it all still allows me to have two half-serve of carbs a day – 1/4 cup for cooked rice etc, 1 piece of fruit for other stuff). I am not sure I can sustain very low carb as a life style.
Good chocolate once a week, otherwise it will all be too goody-goody 🙂

Well that’s my Tuesday. Off now to cook a big leg of pork and suck on fatty crackle! Soo appreciate yore leadership CG! (I’m sure you’ll whip me into shape again when you get back).

    Oh, blotus! It’s Lotus!
    ‘n’ lookit yum yum
    iz it LCHF?
    Or jist pepper? by gum!
    Gawd, it’s dawg eatin’ dawg!
    I’ll get the gun!

Dogs-baby, you need to stop letting that mutt train you! Clue: He’s just a child, treat him as such. Don’t react to his cues for (unnecessary) attention. NEVER YELL AT HIM (that tells him it’s okay to yell/bark back) be serene around him. He will mirror your mood. (if you are a nervous sort of person, then so will your pets grow to be, so think about that).

Ignore loudness. Put YOURSELF in a room, away from him and deprive him of your presence when he’s naughty. Don’t punish, either verbally or physically. Dogs are mind readers or at least reactive to vibes(so are babies). Gain his attention by firmly, but quietly speaking his name. Then tune in by making eye contact. You’ll see he’s reading you. so if you get all flustered with him, or give too many words, that’s what you’ll get back, a frustrated jumble. Puppies are like attention deficit children, you must gain their focus, then give simple directives til they learn one basic at a time. Don’t move on before they can build on it. It takes patience. So this week, practice letting him know when he’s displeased you. Pick a method and be consistent and brief. (like gain his attention, shake your head and put him away from you – by not touching him, you depart and ignore him till he’s got the picture). You’ll find just a look of disappointment is all he needs, to know when he’s not pleasing you. And in the end, his only mission in life is to please you. But first he has to figure out how. try not to disappoint him by changing the goal posts . Luck

My dogs have never had leashes and I generally don’t have fences or even doors that get shut. Manners were just expected and loyalty went both ways (my kids were raised much the same). I don’t recall ever training them. I just give them person status and that’s that. They just know when not to follow me and never wander, but guard our place. that’s how I know my Alsation never set foot outside our boundary. Fence or no fence. Relax and your pet will learn by example. It’s a journey together, not a battle of wills. My best to you all.xxx Gyps

I like the drinking theme in both your poems Gyps 🙂
For those of you that like a sweet drink – had Midori the other day with soda and lemon wedges – nice 🙂
Usually made with Lemonade but that’s just too sweet. Midori itself is quite sweet.

Yoohooo1 cooee! hmm. Nobody here… well, hope you’re all having a nice meal..

Meee tooo. Pork’s done. Plus lot’s of yummy potatoes, pumpkin, carrots and onion baked, or more like fried, in a mixture of duck fat, butter and pork dripping. Ooo! la,la, you know when they have that tarry, near black coating….. and the crackling is just….awesome…then pan gravy made from the onions and juices…..drooling now…. just resting the meat and waiting on the steamed greens, broccoli, brussel sprouts and spinach. Fresh from the garden and tossed in butter…

Think I’ll have a glass of red with it. Praise 5:2 I can! Once in a while…I broke the plateau after my hungi gobbling weekend! (am down to 82k this a.m!) Let’s see how the sucker holds up! Of course I’ll only have sensible portions…… since starving son is home and pacing round the plates, I’ll be lucky to get any!

since we are focusing on (good)full fats I can offer a homemade salad dressing recipe: try chai oil (expensive, but goes a loooong way), brewed wine vinegar (red is mellower, white is sharper, depends on taste, as does the ratio of amounts) and a few dashes of organic herb salts (that’s mixed herbs and sea salt). shake all together in a hobo bottle (that’s a screw top jar with holes punched in the lid, like bushies use) sprinkle over salad on your plate and Bob’s your uncle. Time for dinner. Cheers! gyps

    Hi Diip

worth reading about, sweet chestnut and gorse may be a good start. Agrimony for yourself.

Diip sounds like you are both moving in a good direction. Had a SIL who needed this sort of help a couple of years ago and a friend of his whose Dad was a psychologist stepped in and worked with him/still occasionally works with him to pull out of the blues. Takes time.

Lotus I’m going to go with my gut too and see how I go. The principle is good – just need some carbs

Gyps your meal sounds amazing, yummo.
    YY xx

Yep no way I could sustain low-carb as a lifestyle for sure – aren’t we so different. And yet I certainly agree with the HF part. However the one becomes rather difficult without the other ie you almost need to cut out the carbs (well most of) if you’re going to fit the HF in? Lotus maybe you’ve done more research & found that you can fit it all in. It’s a bit tricky. I’ll just keep gong with plain 5:2 for now and see how I go. Happy with it so far for sure.
Night night all and CG best wishes for your trip to Melbourne tomorrow & one more sleep then before your op. Praying for a successful op that gives you a pain-free future after your recovery. Be strong and of good courage CG. We know you’re a pretty fearless leader so you’ll pull through really well! And you’ll push through whatever initial pain barriers face you head on. Best wishes from Madam Secretary sj XXXX
And PS don’t worry about us or a while. We can survive for just a few days without you…..not too much more than that though!!!

Gypsy – I going to try the dressing next week . Thanks 🙂
SJ – I can’t go very low carb too… Need some rice or flat bread in a day. But definitely feel fuller (more satisfied) replacing most carbs with green veggies. Not sure about weight shifting, my bug bear is insulin drop….
    Nighty nite team

Very quiet on this thread this morning. What’s up people? All having some away time?

To continue this High Fat discussion (so not a good thing to think about on my fast day LOL!) – I thought about it, and while I will not be able to relish a lot of animal fat / butter – It would be nice to have , say, a spoon of hot ghee on dal, Blue Cheese dip for celery sticks, chicken with skin on sometimes, boiled eggs with real mayonnaise or hollandaise. Maybe asian stirfry with a splash of sesame oil. Or fish pan fried with butter and lemon. Yes, carbs will need to reduced if I do this – so may be an open sandwich or eggs Benedict on spinach rather than English muffin, or dal by itself as soup?
Also I have removed a lot of alcohol from my food plan as, unfortunately, alcohol is processed as a carb (creates the same insulin spike) only its seven calories per gram, as opposed to four in a gram of carb. Now a days its only vodka with club soda and lemon wedge, one drink a week.

Hey folks, Completely new to this, saw the BBC doco last night and it really got to me. First fast day today. any advice?

    SD

    hi Lotus

I feel almost a failure, almost but doing some things right, isnt it weird?

Doing wine at the moment to see it is affecting my weight loss. Never had low fat anything in my life, might have tried low fat mayo just once, never again. Olive oil and butter in cooking, no one gets near the chicken skin but me. Home made mayo or hellman’s. Steak in oil and butter, a dash of cream whenever I feel like it, , bread and butter, toasted scone and butter. I hate cheese, not a yoghurt fan.

Potatoes, rice and pasta are a special treat now, one of them once a week, but not all. Bread only once or twice a week, almost always wholegrain. No pies or pastries. Biscuits and cake are a very rare treat. Not even once a week. Lattes changed to skinny, my only concession to the low fat brigade, can’t taste the difference – changed from medium to small. Now eating loads and loads of veggies and fish. Tonight salmon and prawns stirfry with nine veggies, no rice. Think the record is 15 veg.

Im keeping the things I like, and yet making huge changes. Managing to stay high fat but most days under 1200 calories, fast days 375, quarter of target TDDE. Certainly focuses the mind, considering the huge calories in some fatty foods, but losing 1-2 lbs a week, virtually every week.

    As I said, weird!

Found out Mayan warriors went to war with just cocoa, so adding chocolate to the mix. After all, we are waging a war, aren’t we?

Suspect the wine is wishful thinking (sigh!!!!) but its a rather nice experiment. Starting Fast Beach Diet again at beginning of July for 8 weeks to hols (though thinking of doing 4 weeks and taking a week off)- so the wine will stop then. I imagine I’m the only person who would plan a break on the fast beach diet!!!!

Might have to eat some cake this week so I can give it up at the end of the month. Or chocolate? So much in the swing of 5:2 I have to invent things to give up!!

Re animal stories – amazing programme about mountain lions tonight, enthralling. One mum had 4 cubs, two died, then mum was killed, 2 left were too young, you could see them suffering, then one died, by this time I was shouting at the telly, telling the film makers to bloody help, last cub survived into the winter, killed a porcupine, but died of injuries. I was wrecked by the end. Cuddled my own mountain lion throughout, she’s had a really rough day, probably wasn’t a great idea to watch the programme, but at the end she got up and demanded her supper. Very loudly.

Didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, especially when she spotted a moth and chased it – blummin’ heroic as she keels over like a drunk when she tries to walk! Ate all her supper, waited for hot water bottle before thowing herself into bed, and squirmed when I cuddled her – probably the torrent of tears and the snots were putting her off.

And my men were in stitches!

Im just too fragile for this world! Can’t watch Lassie or Bambi either, nor the Lion King, Kes, Ring of bright water, watership down, any episode of all creatures great and small……………..

Mmmm, very quiet…… Safe travels CG

    Lotus, what is ‘dal’ really?

Suejen, still wondering what ‘CBH’ means???

…..sigh… think I’m paying for the fat blowout….or might be the ice cream…got the bloats and back up in the 84’s…oh, well, back to the drawing board. Whatever you’re all up to, hope you’re enjoying it. If I sent you packing with my potty poems….I’m back on topic…you can come out now.

Oh, don’t quote us, Lotus, we’re blooming alone! Where are ya? No answer, not even a moan! It ain’t my fault cos it ain’t a rhyme if it’s goin’ straight ‘n’ all in a line……Izit? … anonymous….

Hello Samus! Welcome to this way of life ( we often refer to it as a WOL) and this (usually!) very active thread!
The WOL itself is pretty simple and flexible – choose any two days in a week that you are able to fast (so keep them your busy days, when food and drink won’t be focus of thoughts). Consume under 500 cals if you are female, under 600 cals if you are male. On other days, you are free to eat, but within your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE – can be calculated from the calculators in the FAQ section on this website).
We tweak this system all the time, right now, from the last pages on this thread we are wondering if we can reduce our carbs to the bare minimum and eat full fat, but again, within TDEE. So, Low-Carb High-Fat plan (LCHF).
Otherwise, heaps on info and recipes on the website, and feel free to ask any questions, to celebrate your losses or even just to vent if you are having a not-so-great day.

    🙂

Ooo! There ya are! Milena! thank God yore here! Bwaahaaha! girl after my own heart! Being crazy works for me, too. They do say it’s an enzyme phenomena when the equilibrium has to work harder to maintain….um… the ‘healthy’ balance… but, hey, who put ‘them’ in charge of the scales? Are you Libran by any chance? more likely a Leo…. I want a picky of your mountain lion…..sssnot clear if it’s stuffed or similar to my delusional spirit animal ( I speak crow fluently on bad days). We should shoot all ‘reality’ shows depicting cruelty in the name of entertainment! (Not to mention non -interventional observation) Who needs that crap?

Milena – why would you be a failure dear, you are eating wonderfully!! Wow 15 veggies in a stirfry! I thought I eat a lot of veggies, but you are a winner, babe 🙂
I am going to copy some of your ideas in my plan too. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Sometimes it does feel like an uphill climb, but it took many years for the fat to get attached to our bodies, its gonna take some time to come off…

You are a total softie with our four-legged friends eh? 😉

I have a friend who chews on Cacao Seeds as he says that’s what the Mayans originally used it for – fuel / caffeine. Apparently fat-burning or metabolism increasing stuff. I tried it once – a bt on the bitter / weird side for me, but having said that, my taste buds have changed in the last six months on this WOL (I actually prefer black coffee and plain soda!! – who’da thunk it?), so will probably try it again.

Yeah Gypsy! I thought they had left us all crazies and migrated to another thread 🙂

Also Dal = Spinach Dahl (lentils cooked in water and spices) – recipe on the Aussie Determination Recipe Thread. Ghee is clarified butter

Hi and welcome to Samus. Glad you saw the doco and that you’re into it already. Welcome to this wonderful WOL (way of life) or WOE (way of eating). As to your first day a couple of hardboiled eggs are always a good start. I have 1 for brekky & 1 for lunch. Others have miso soup or if you’re at work La Zuppa soups (supermarket) are easy to buy & heat up in the container & very low cal. Or a salad but not so much salad weather these days. For dinner lots of vegies & some protein – fish/chicken/steak whatever you like. Sirfrys are a good way to incorporate lots of vegies. Should be aiming to stick to 600 calories for a guy. Most of us have FD’s (fast day) on Monday & Thursday but choose whatever 2 days work for you. We shift the days around as needed to fit into our lifestyle, that’s why 5:2 is so doable. For your NFD’s calculate your TDEE and it will tell you how many cals you’re aiming for…just put TDEE in the search engine at the top & it will calculate it for you. We mostly use MFP my fitness pal to work out our cals but not all of us keep track. Mike is around on the forum & he might give you some useful advice too.
CG guess you’re on your way by now. Just remember that we’re all thinking of you as get closer to your op. Stay calm and supremely optimistic as you always do. XX
Ah Gyps thought you’d never ask. CBH = child bearing hips! It was a common phrase back in my school days & I sure had them. And don’t give up on your rhymes…we luv them.
Milena or Lotus you’d have to explain to me how you do a FD with high-fat & stick to 375 cals? I can’t even do that with a bit of LF stuff. Generally I try to avoid the stuff but find it much harder on FD’s to do so. I agree with the concept but in practice find it much harder. I can’t even imagine having 15 vegies in a stirfry…must lack imagination!
Well onto another feed day folks so enjoy some foods you love but watch your portions ie cut them back if you haven’t already. And enjoy lots of hot drinks to keep the hungries away like you do a FD. Think we need to do this through winter as we know that often we’re not actually hungry, just cold & looking for something hot. sj XXX

Hi SJ – I don’t do high fat on fast days. the high-fat gig is fairly new to me anyway, so I wouldn’t have a clue on working that into fasting…

    sorry Gypsy

Im Capricorn, right on the cusp with saggitarius, looking forward to your thoughts on that one! Aren’t capricorns the serious lot?

Will try to upload a photo of my girl, though she looks a bit of a sight now. Need instructions though!

Suejen, its tricky sometimes, though I can say from experience you can have a chocolate bar on a fast day – very little else though!!!!! Though I think that scottish delicacy, the deep-fried mars bar – which I have never had – might be beyond most folk any day of the week.

Lotus, you are correct about it being seeds, but chocolate is so much easier to chew on!!! lol!

Hi Samus, welcome, you will get some great advice here – there is a Robert Louis Stevenson quote about travelling hopefully, the pleasure is in the journey – 5:2 csn be quite a journey, but you’ll have some amazing companions!

Good tip regarding hot drinks! I have switched from water to hot water nowadays, and somehow it seems to keep me feeling full 🙂

mmm chocolate… (ok, slapping myself on the head now – its a fast day for me!)

Just reread your post Gyp, it wasn’t a reality show, pretty sure Attenburgh was narrating, so gold stars.

A team of scientists were studying why mountain lions were dropping in numbers, they put tracking collars on the mums and the cubs, so seriously they shouldn’t have intervened, but they could have!!!!!

Numbers down due to re-introduction of wolves, but mainly because strapping brave hunters with little diddy bows and arrows hunted them for food.

Sorry, stupid men with tiny willies and huge rifles hunted them for fun and to feel brave in front of their equally anatomically inferior mates, encouraged by the local authorities who charged big bucks for hunting licences!!! Who also probably have tiny willies as well!!!!! They apparently can only shoot mountain lions over a certain age – unfortunately we didn’t get to see these men walking up to the animals to check their birth certificates – pity, would have made the programme more fun!

ha ha Milena! love your post above

Oops! Are we setting a bad example on unruly eating patterns for new Fasters? Milena! Shame on you! You know I’m easily led…

    HI, SAMUS!

Yes, plenty of info on here and welcome! You have likely just made the best decision of your life. 5:2 works and this is a great thread for support. I have personally lost 10 kgs over the past six months and reversed diabetes, cholesterol and regained my failing energy, and my sense of humour!

You may notice We do play up on occasions, but generally get pulled into gear by our leader, CG (country girl) a lady who has shed 25kgs and is a great motivator, who is presently off line and about to have spinal surgery. But she’ll be back and if you read back through our posts you’ll see that it’s a good place to be.
We care about each other and have all become friends, welcoming new friends. You will find there is much to be said for keeping your new plan to yourself, for a while, as far as the rest of the world goes, doubters and scoffers can really derail one. It all changes when the results speak for them selves. Arm yourself with knowledge as you go along and when in doubt turn to this thread. Many of us are nurses, teachers counsellors and All of us are rich in life experience and determined to find a sustainable, healthy life plan. Everyone who sticks with us does achieve just that.

Best advice to beginners is, keep it simple, focus on one day at a time, remember it’s only one day you’re cutting down on portions, you ‘can have it tomorrow’. if you go over on a fast day, it doesn’t matter, you can try it again on another day, and it will adapt to your lifestyle. You will soon feel the bodily changes from the bloated feeling of fat and heavy, to the comfort of a flatter tummy and lightness. Your energy levels react to the detoxing that fasting facilitates and it becomes very do-able with pretty instant rewards. That will make it a new way of life you’ll want to continue. plus the food that is right for your body’s needs will taste wonderful! whilst the junk won’t. It’s really quite amazing.

Lotus pointed you to investigate this site’s info sites, do that. try to get the book on intermittent fasting written by Dr Michael Mosley, on line or at major book stores. You will find many links to other great info back through our posts (there are even some photos posted of some member’s progress.

Plus you’ll need a calorie counter to help with figuring out foods that keep you satisfied and still meet the 2 fasting day’s (that’s FD’s) targets (many on here chooses Monday and Thursday FD’s and we weigh in on Fridays posting results to keep us honest) . Most of us use ‘my fitness’ ap. Which you can google and download either to your phone, computer or both. On that site or this one or both, you should track your progress. It’s very helpful to see your ups and downs and compare with others, often you’ll find they have answers to get you through hitches, like plateaus or food questions. The best advice is to always prepare ahead for fasting days, find staples you can fall back on if you haven’t, like boiled eggs, tinned fish or beans or any soup, like miso, stuff which has the calories written on the label. DRINK plenty of water. keep yourself busy on fast days and if working, take a prepared day’s food. or just check in to this site and while away the day, writing blogs to the bunch! sorry for the length of this, but CG would expect us to take care of ne AD’ers in her absence. Good luck, Samus. The Gypsy

    thanks everyone!

Feeling very welcomed! i am using my fitness pal at the moment to keeo track of the calories which is great.

    hi Samus
Miso soups are available in coles and woolies on the Asian / International food aisles. they look like regular packet soup

Evening Determinators……A FD is just around the corner… Have we prepared for it?
Get those thick warming soups and drinks out.During these cold days we need our fuel with plenty of fibre in the form of veggies to keep us warm .
Welcome to our new members. During the first few weeks of 5:2 you will experience feeling colder than usual, may have insommnia or the occassional headache. This is normal until your body adjusts to this WOL and WOE . Keeping to the fundermental
rules of 5:2 you will be fine. Get “the book” so you can stay on course during your journey and ask any questions you need to help make this successful for you.

The key to success is the 4 P’s… planning -your food choices, preparing -your food, patience- in the waiting of weight loss to occur and persistence- in staying with the basic plan of 5:2 …. you can not go wrong.
Have a great day tomorrow…..GO GAL

HI GG good to hear from you again….you’ve been missing for a while. And always such good sound advice from you. So are you going to be Madam Vice President while CG is out of action & keep us in line?!
I’ve certainly been finding that I’m drinking more hot drinks whether it be tea, coffee, but mostly herbal teas – and of course my good old Vegemite drink. You do get hungrier in this weather so when you feel the hungries rather than heading for food, head for a hot drink. And usually you forget about the food.
Yes GG about to boil my eggs & look up what I’d like to cook for a tasty, warming dinner. Planning meals I find is a good distraction too! Maybe it satisfies the brain that you’re thinking about food so it lets go of the craving?! Have a good night all suejen XXX
Mike hope you had a good first day. If you didn’t don’t panic there’s always tomorrow or another day to try again.

Thanks SJ….But no….. We are all going to be MVP’S…. Just let all us keep the positivity ,support and encouragement that our thread is so respected for. All we need to do is keep reinforcing the amazing health benefits that 5:2 can and has done for all of us. Never forgetting the weight loss is the bonus in this WOL……GO GAL

Nothing like repeating oneself…….don’t know what happened there??????….GO GAL

Some golden words are better repeated GG 😉
    Nitey nite team.
2nd fast for the week done, tallied up to 550 cals. Had to sit across OH (other half) as he ate pizza at the RSL – didn’t have any cravings tho, which is good. OH felt guilty throughout 🙂 hah! I just felt superior LOL

Onya Lotus! glad you’re back GG. Agree SJ, it helps to focus on the details of fasting foods, then savour them slooowly. Making FD’s a ritual is a good habit, better than waking up one day and wondering what the hell happened when you look in the mirror!

How was your first day in the new job, Mike?

Samus, remember what I said about letting your results speak for themselves. Show your dad the new you in a few months and he’ll be more likely to take that first step. Luck.

Thinking of you CG. We’ve got this. Breathe in…..out…and again….etc..

I am presently nursing a headache and have had some hot and cold shivers, Hoping it’s not a scrub virus, I found a tick having a picnic in my armpit. So much for my gardening binge! Best I resort to the rum! (not to worry, the tick died, I am no easy meal ticket!) Evening all, xxx gyps

A late Wednesday read for me, unless it is school holidays I’m offline through the day. So, Gyps, Lotus, SJ, FB, Milena (convinced Attenborough is a sadist BBTW) will catch up tomorrow. Welcome Samus. YY xx

Hope u feel better today Gypsy
CG – hope the op went well…
Have wonderful and special fast day team. Who makes it special? We do, for ourselves 🙂

Morning Team! What activities do you have planned today for those that are fasting? And others on NFD enjoy your treats.
We know at this stage of our 5:2 journey that keeping physically and mentally busy keeps the hunger pangs at bay.
The Peppers’ and Oscars’ of this world know that it means a walk somewhere. It also allows us to breath in deeply ,warm those muscles up and enjoy the beauty of our surrounds. If we are in a closed area doing pilates or gym workouts we are enjoying them with more energy and awareness of the good that it is doing on the inside and enjoy the socializing within the group.
Smile as much as you can… every day even though some of us are having difficulty at this time….. that smile will send out so many comforting feelings to others and may help you feel better about what is happening with you. “Nothing in the world is impossible” make it possible and work for you!
You have the power and the wisdom not to allow these hicups to effect you. YOU ARE AUSSIE DETERMINATION and YOU CAN DO THIS!
Have a wonderful, happy day…. I know you can!!!!!!………GO GALxxxxxxx

Morning all how is everyone? For me today was Pilates…what about you? Hope the weather enables at least a walk to help with the weight loss. FD well underway & hope you’re all organised and coping well. Head for the hot drinks to compensate for the lack of body-warming food & you’ll do OK. Even though the cals are restricted (but remember it’s only today) still plan for something you enjoy & can look forward to for dinner to keep you motivated. I’m having a Pumpkin Pie – not the usual sort but a savoury pumpkin pie without any crust and only 289 cals. Has cottage cheese in it for some protein too & lots of spices. Very yummy.

Stay warm all and stay focused on getting yourself through another successful FD. You can hit the pillow tonight & say I DID IT. Then we all hit the scales tomorrow…or most of us anyway. Have a great day all suejen XXX

CG we’re all thinking of you so please remember that when you come to. We don’t expect to hear from you but just want you to know that you’re in our thoughts & the success of the op too. XXX
