  • Day 16 California USA NFD

Monday and yesterday’s B2B fast finally knocked me off of my 3 week plateau. 137 62.1 this morning, down from 138.6 62.9 yesterday. I don’t usually don’t do B2B fasts, but I was tired of my weight not moving down. I’m going to have a very careful NFD today, perhaps not counting calories, but being mindful of what I eat.

@coda – The only answer to snacking for me is to keep snacks out of the house. My family can eat snacks when they go out if they want them. After a certain time at night, if they’re there, I’ll eat them.

@melf123 – Welcome to the forum and back to a fasting routine. Is today going to be a fast day (FD) for you?

Day 16 – McMinnville Oregon USA – FD
I had a great FD yesterday, under 500 cal. I’m not hungry this morning so I will try a b2b today. I think I’m getting my mojo back. 💃

    Day 16 –CD

I’ve decided to get mathematical about hitting my goal this month. I figured out how much of a caloric deficit I’d need to lose 2.2 pounds, and made a spreadsheet planning out my intake and expenditures for the rest of August, based on my regular exercise routine. Factoring in six fast days really helped, and I excluded two days: the day before my birthday (Sunday the 27th) and my birthday Monday the 28th) because on the Sunday I’m inviting friends to meet me at the brewpub for beer and fried turkey wings, and Monday we’re going to my favorite restaurant for dinner. When I see it all laid out, it seems very doable.

Penz – To borrow a current meme: “Nevertheless, she resisted.” Yay you!

Coda—I do better dismissing the snack-dragon when I have something interesting to occupy my mind. Like a puzzle, an art project, or a good book or magazine. Strangely, even cooking something can be a good distraction.

Debster251—Since I was a kid I always got really excited about new shoes, no matter what kind they were.

    Onward and downward…

P.S. Just saw this funny Wikipedia entry:

    Lemon chicken
    Dish
Lemon chicken is the name of several dishes found in cuisines around the world which include chicken and lemon.

New person, sorry for joining so late but I was too anxious to post before, then the last two days I have lost all control and eaten all the biscuits, so

Day 16 – supposed to be a FD but see above, and technically Worthing UK, but still think of myself as Brightonian

    Day 16, Gozo, Malta, nfd

I weighed myself this morning and I’m 70.6 kilos 0.6 kilos more than last week. I feel bloated a bit and yesterday I had a two course meal with my school friend who is leaving for Melbourne next Saturday. I refrained from dessert but ate lots of delicious bread with my first course.

I need to do a fast day and mean to do so tomorrow.

Have a great Wednesday everyone, onwards and downwards.

Day 16 NFD st Louis USA

Saw this article and eating late and thought it was interesting. Not a lot of new information though.

Call my best to all of you.

    Day 16 – USA – FD

FINALLY….getting back into my FDs this week…adding myself to the list:

Sorry no posts for a while, my routine is blown by school hols.

Days 10-16 all NFD with only 10 and 12 around TDEE, the rest over, due to birthday, work travel and lack of sleep. Monitoring and not letting control slip too far and learning more about where I need to be to maintain and triggers for over doing it.

    Hi to all
Day 16 Oregon. I had two good FD’s. Today only control.
To those who fast today have a good day!!!

I am 71 years old (nearly 72) and also 5′ 5”, however I would find it really hard to get to the weight you aspire to. I’m afraid I’d look skeletal if I did. I have lost 20lb and hoping to lose another 5lb to get to 11stone. That would take me to just within the recommended BMI. I think I must have a large frame, although I know bones don’t weigh ‘heavy’ as people tell me they can’t believe I’m as heavy as I am. I wish you every success with your goal.

    Day 16, US, NFD

Day 16 – SW WA USA – FD

This FD is a much needed reset! Off the rails with eating whatever as I was travelling the last couple of days. I’ve eaten things I haven’t eaten in ages. Hopefully I’ve gotten it out of my system because my tummy sure isn’t too happy with those choices or amounts.

@belfastsink – was the lemon chicken recipe you refer too in the original book or the Cookbook?

@granmawig – to whom were you directing your comment?

@krinia – I’m wondering about doing keto seriously. I’ve been exploring it but not really doing it yet. My FDs are usually in that vein but I don’t know how much good it does if one is inconsistent with it. @dykask, are you doing straight keto?

    Whoops – @krisnia; not @krinia

    Third post
You can tell it’s been raining here cos I’m up to date with the posts!
Abbi1234. Welcome to you too. I’ve added you to the spreadsheet.

    Never feel anxious about posting
    – you’re as anonymous as you choose to be,
    – this forum is full of people who have never posted on a forum before now, myself included,
We’ve all ‘been there, done that….’ and are fairly unshockable.
There’s a wealth of experience, people who are just starting, en route and of course maintaining.

It would be good to start your post with the day of the challenge – today is day 16, where you come from and whether you are fasting or not. Good luck!

@keetseel – I’m impressed with your approach to calorie eradication. Might try that myself! On the shoe front, if I wasn’t retired and don’t wear heels much, I’d be broke. There are some beautiful shoes around. 👡👠👜….
Thank you @sirisan for the link.

@keetseel it’s funny you should say cooking distracts you on a fast day. I have had my easiest dragon free 🐉 day today. I have been cooking lasagne and cakes 🎂 to take to my sisters tomorrow. I haven’t felt hungry all day.

    Day 16 / Albuquerque, NM – USA / NFD

Hello all I am very new to this, and sorry to be joining late! I just found out about 5:2 last week via my Lifesum app, did like a weeks worth of research and decided to jump in with both feet this past Monday! Yesterday was my first FD and I was so proud of myself for actually sticking to 500 calories! I usually do terrible with diets and this seems like the absolute perfect compromise!

@debster251 would it be possible to be added to that spreadsheet too? Thank you!!

A quick bit about me: I’m 28, just started 5:2 this week. I’ve struggled with weight loss and dieting post college, and had a baby in 2016 (which really threw my weight into a downhill spiral!) but I am really looking forward to rocking this new plan out! I think this is an awesome way to get a into a healthier lifestyle that you can actually stick to!

    Starting weight: 165 lbs / Waist: 35″

My plans for the rest of this month:
    – Track calories on both FD & NFD
    – Lower sugar and carb intake on NFD
    – No alcohol on weekdays
    – Increase water intake
    – Workout at least 3 days a week
    – Lose 2-4 lbs by Aug 31

Oh, yay! Another Burquenya! Jessyoursize, I only started this in May (the day after reading about it online). A very supportive community.

Hi! Hey small world right?! And imthatvwhat we call ourselves? Haha I’m a recent transplant from TX so it’s all still a little new to me lol.
This seems like fantastic and supportive community and what better way to do this than with others who are doing the same!!

Norway, day 16, NFD (supposed to be FD)

@debster251 and @dykask: Thank you, i followed your advice, and have just focused on healing today, hope I feel better very soon so I can have a FD later this week.

Hi all! I’m brand new to the forum and love this challenge thread.

I’m from WA state, it’s Day 8 for me, FD. Current weight is 157.4 lbs.

This is my fourth fasting day so far, and it’s not as hard as i imagined! i’m excited to start seeing results and am very happy to have found this online support!

Day 16 Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 NFD.
Busy busy day gone in the blink of an eye. First time to catch up. I’ve just Googled big boned interesting reading.
Took a lovely Italian family from Newcastle to Huddersfield in my taxi today, Some customers I wish I could take for free. FD tomorrow and CNFD till Sunday after that me thinks.

    Day 17 /16:8 CD/ Melbourne Australia

A warm welcome to all our new friends. You’ll find lots of support here.

Off to volunteer at my grandson’s school. Hopefully I’ll have time to catch up later. Have a great day everyone.

    Day 16 UK FD

Just about to go to bed, today went well but feeling really hungry at the minute. Last few days have been quite difficult for some reason. Normally I don’t have any problems keeping mid week days as either FD or CDs. Yesterday was a real struggle to keep mindful, I had more to eat than I would normally but felt ravenous all day. Scales showed a pound loss this morning so I’ve used that as my motivation to get through today.

Welcome to the new folks posting on here, it’s such a supportive forum – we share ups and downs – I find it really gets me through the days.

Good morning from Australia, Day 17 here!
First FD in a long long time, wish me luck.

Feels strange but good to be doing something for myself

    Day 17 – Tokyo, Japan – FD (3rd B2B)

    @16 hours – glucose 95mg/dl, ketones ~0.0 mg/dl, 82.4kg
    @30 hours – glucose 90mg/dl, ketones ~0.5 mg/dl, 80.2kg <— Some fat
    @41 hours – glucose 91mg/dl, ketones ~1.5 mg/dl, 79.8kg
    @48 hours – glucose 85mg/dl, ketones ~4.0 mg/dl, 79.0kg <— burning fat
    @64 hours – glucose 74mg/dl, ketones ~6.0 mg/dl, 78.8kg

I have to guess a bit at the ketone level. It is getting hard to tell the difference between dark purple and darker purple. My blood glucose is a little low and I can feel it, but it seems to be getting better after some light exercise.

So currently my activity tracker claims I’ve burn 7154 calories this fast. That is around 111 calories/hour. It is that high because I’ve been doing a lot of walking and stair climbing. I’ve climbed in excess of 250 floors so far this fast. I can’t be sure how many because sometimes the tracker doesn’t count the floors.

@debster251 – I haven’t been eating any food this fast, the only calories I had is from straight tea, black coffee, diet soda and some sugarless gum. (< 20 calories/day) Sometimes when I’m feeling a little edgy I chew some gum to kind of take my mind off of the feelings. When I’m fasting I tend to study fasting. I’ve read multiple books, some of which I’ve reread. I’ll read blogs and listen to YouTube talks too. I would guess about 80% of my studying has been while fasting. Also in general, I do better without eating. Once I start eating I start feeling very hungry.

    Day 17 FD Brisbane Australia

Big carb day yesterday, DD made pancakes for breakfast, roll with vegemite for lunch and sushi for dinner. Hope that doesn’t make today’s fast too difficult.

Day 17 pocket fasters: Please add or remove your name as needed, I’ve added names from the spreadsheet

    Happy fasting day!

    Follow-up post:

Even though my blood glucose is a little low, I’m feeling really good. I’m not feeling any hunger, just a very slight emptiness. I’ve been improving all morning. I had a rough night because I woke up a 3 AM and had a hard time getting back to sleep. I didn’t feel bad, just didn’t feel tried.

I’m thinking this is going to be more like a once a year type fast if I make it to 100 hours. I’m not really sold on the idea of fasting long term just to burn fat. However fasts over 72 hours are supposed to have a lot of therapeutic impacts.

Right I’m kind of disappointed that I can’t see more visible changes in my body fat! Just being greedy. Fat is HARD to burn off. The flip side is we don’t gain fat very quickly either, at least while eating a healthy diet.

Day 17 Australia NFD apologies @debster251 – I recorded yesterday as Day 15 when it was actually Day 16. Blame it on the hunger pangs! I was so hungry last night it actually made it difficult to get to sleep but I finally did and then really enjoyed a breakfast of sourdough toast with avocado, ricotta and tomatoes this morning after my walk. My trousers are even slipping down! Wishing everyone a good day!

    Day 16 Portland, OR NFD

I’m tempted to make this a FD as I have only had 100 calories so far today. I didn’t really plan for a FD but I’ve been too busy at work to stop and eat. I clearly have not been drinking enough water though as I have been so light headed every time I stand up and have a lingering headache. Water to the rescue 🙂

Extra post – great! I’ve been walking around for the last 1.5 hours with parsley from my healthy breakfast stuck in my front teeth! That wouldn’t have happened with peanut butter toast!

    Day 16 – USA – NFD

    Day 16 – USA – NFD

Third post: sorry to blame it on my OH, but he is a feeder, lol. My FD turned into a NFD, and day 17 will be my birthday, which definitely will be a NFD. He has already given me the menu, which will be full of carbs. We’ll see if I can make another FD this week on Day 18….

@hannahwatto – One of the perils of parsley vs peanut butter! 😁 😬

    Day 16. Québec. NFD

NFD once again today because I’m with my sisters and I don’t feel like fasting. However i’m in control of my eating. In fact, this is my eight day without any refined sugar. And I will go on like this.
Tomorrow i am going back to my place and i will be able to fast. Looking forward to get on my scale at home. I’quite sure that I lost some weight. Crossing my fingers.

Good night or good day to you all x

    Day 16 Vancouver Island
    NFD
Love this time of year with all the fresh veggies! Makes the days ( both FD and NFD) so much easier when everything tastes like real food.

    Day 17, India, FD
Love this way of life 🙂

    Day 17 | Sydney Australia | NFD

    Day 17, 7:15am, Norway NFD
I did my Thursday-FD yesterday, yay! Today is the RV-trip with family members. I’m the designated driver, so hopefully I won’t be able to snack all the way to Sweden.
I’m actually surprised at how easy the FD’s are. I realize that most of my eating (before 5:2 – on my 3rd week) was from either habit or plain and simple boredom. I really didn’t know. Now I almost don’t think about food unless I’m actually going to have a meal. I have to do better with my water, especially on FD’s. Yesterday I managed to keep the headaches away. I couldn’t resist stepping on the scale today, I really shouldn’t weigh myself more than once a week, preferably Tuesday mornings, after my Monday FD, but somehow all of the sudden I was on the scale. 4kg’s (8.8lbs) in total since July 31! Hopefully my Sweden trip won’t send me straight back. 208lbs starting weight, now 199.5lbs – wow just used the “convert kg to lbs.”-conversion thing I found on google. I hit the 200 mark!!!! 0.5kg and I will hit a magic number in KG’s as well.
I’ve made it a thing that I don’t go into grocery stores on FD’s, I believe it makes it easier to not buy everything due to “low blood sugar”, so my OH has to go by himself he needs anything on these two days.
Yesterday he ate crisps!! And chocolate!! I really kind of wanted a couple of the crisps, but just ignored it, and after 10 seconds I didn’t want it/think about it anymore. I try not to make a big deal out of whatever he does on my FD’s, because I’m hoping that when I start to SEE the results (other than on the scale) he will try this for himself as well. I strongly believe he eats out of habit and boredom (like when watching TV etc.) and I think he overeats way after he is actually full…because it tastes good.

    Still day 16 –

@maayyaa – good for you, great progess! Thought, do you think your hubby overeats after he is full because it tastes good? I know for myself that food tastes the best when I am hungry. When I tune in to my eating, once I’m actually satisfied, the next bites don’t really taste that great. I think you’re right that a lot of eating is from habit.

I learned something, my blood glucose is still low but I feel fine. In fact I just measured 68 mg/dl (3.77 mmol/l) which normally would have me in light headed maybe going to faint mode. Turns out this isn’t uncommon for longer term fast an my blood glucose should stabilize in the 65 mg/dl to 75 mg/dl range. Maybe I’m not feeling bad because there are enough ketones to feed the brain. I don’t know yet. Source: http://eatingacademy.com/nutrition/ketosis-advantaged-or-misunderstood-state-part-i
I’ve never seen this effect before and I fully expected my blood sugar to stay higher than that. Hopefully it is also improving my insulin sensitivity.

I felt well enough that I did a 5k run a few hours ago. However I took it really slow because I didn’t what to stress my leg muscles too much when I’m not eating. (33 minutes, yea pretty slow … ~3.3 miles) It was a pretty easy run, but lately I only run about once a month, so I need to be careful.

Hang in there pocketeers! I fine myself is a group of names I’m not used to!

Another source: From https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2495396/pdf/postmedj00315-0056.pdf (The guy that fasted for 382 days!)

“Blood glucose levels decreased systematically (Fig. 1) and remained around 30 mg/100 ml from the fourth month onwards. Values below 20 mg/ 100 ml were occasionally seen towards the end of the fast. Despite the hypoglycaemia the patient remained symptom-free, felt well and walked about normally.”

So my understanding was incorrect and blood glucose does drop lower then normal in extended fasts. It doesn’t go to zero, but it does drop. I apologize to all that I mislead on that point.

    Day 17 AUS NFD

@keetseel Oh my goodness I love your spreadsheet so much! I’m a huge excel and organisation person, and I cannot believe I haven’t thought of it. Hope it works out for you 😄

@saffy420 I am totally with you on the feeling ravenous, I’ve been like that this week, but managed to get through my FDs (just). Enjoy your NFDs! Hopefully you’ll be able to reset mentally and won’t struggle next week.

    Day 17, UK, NFD

And weight wise I am exactly where I was a week ago; and 0.5kg down on the month. And here is where the rest of the month gets tricky, as I start my hols this afternoon and will be off work for the next 3 weeks.

    Day 17 Ireland FD

Good morning all. Lovely sunny day, and I am attempting my first B2B FD today.

Successful FD yesterday, and down a pound this morning. Still 3.5 left fir my August goal of 149 lbs. but feeling confident.
First time on an FD that I woke up hungry so have already drank a litre of water and now have a big coffee while I update…then off to work with 2 boiled eggs and cottage cheese to break my fast at 1pm. if I am hungry well tough, can’t get any food in work (except for fresh herbs as we are a potted herb nursery 😄)!

Can’t copy the pocket list for some reason but I am there with you guys today.

    Day 17 North Wales NFD

Good fast day yesterday. Off to my sisters today for a long weekend. Good luck to all the fasters today. Stay strong, you can do it. Onwards and downwards 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

    Day 17, UK, CD

Another successful FD yesterday – so that’s my 2nd for the week – toying with having another tomorrow as it really does give me such a wonderful feeling of control….

Very happy when I had my post fast weigh in today – 3.5lb off since Monday (I don’t see this as a true weight loss but it’s still wonderful to see the number on the scale get me back down into the 10 stone bracket)

Have a wonderful day all of those fasting and non-fasting alike

Day 17 Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 FD.
Thanks for adding me to the list. I’m 3lb above goal this morning. Hopefully a good fd will keep me on track to maintaining my weight this month.
Have a great day everybody keep at it and you can all get there.

Day 17, London, UK, FD (3rd of B2B2B)

@dykask, …………..WOW………………… just WOW!!!!! I wouldn’t even attempt a 5k on a NFD!!!! Roll on 100hrs, you ARE a machine!!!! This might be of interest to you as a long-term faster

    https://news.usc.edu/63669/fasting-triggers-stem-cell-regeneration-of-damaged-old-immune-system/

Happy Birthday @metatauta, today your ‘feeder’ can do his own happy dance, he’s obviously a dedicated feeder if he’s planned the menu in advance!!!! LOL ………… tomorrow, he needs a day off……..reset, reset, reset!!!!! Have a great day!!!!

@maayyaa, wave goodbye to the 200’s………………… you may well do a quick revisit after your trip, but you now have the tools to make it a flying visit, enjoy your trip, don’t worry about gaining a couple of lbs, you KNOW that an extra FD or two will see you permanently turning your back on those 200’s!!!!! As for your OH, you can take a horse to water, but….….etc. etc. etc!!!!!

Stay strong everyone on a NFD……………….they’re the REAL test!!!!!!!

    Day 17 – Woking, UK – NFD
    244.3lbs
Yesterday was a good fast day – 756 calories. I need to be more careful on my NFDs though as whilst my overall trend is still downwards on trendweight, it has slowed down. I know I’m not being that mindful of what I eat Thursday – Sunday which is undoing a lot of what I do on Mon – Wed.
I’m just having a bit of an off day today, frustrated at how much I have to lose and my slow rate of progress. I have days when 4lbs a month seems sensible and manageable and the right thing to do, and then slump days when I look at other people losing a lot faster and wish I could be more disciplined and lose this weight more quickly.
I’m going out for dinner with my Dad tonight so I know the scales won’t look great tomorrow, and it’s my nephew’s 4th birthday this weekend so I’ll probably start next week right back where I started this one.
