    Day 14, Cheshire UK. FD
    I’ve now been following 5:2 for 2 weeks and so far it’s been going well. I did get a bit of a problem last week, when I realised that my mood swings were out of control and I was both massively irritable and subject to outburst of pure rage (don’t worry, I didn’t actually attack anyone!). This happened to me when I followed the Dukan diet and it’s why I stopped it. Looking at what I was eating, I had gone very low carb so I’ve added a few more carbs into the diet. If I feel the need to reduce these I’ll do it slowly over a few weeks/months.

    With a slightly higher carb percentage I actually feel great on this WOE, don’t feel deprived at all. I have my first big night out tomorrow (yeah – it’s a Tuesday, timing could have been better), so will see how that goes. If I feel I’ve over indulged too much I’ll add in an extra FD this week.

    Oh, and lost another 2 lbs this week, so 5 altogether πŸ™‚

    Back to the weight I was a month ago after another bad day. The stress with my mother is really getting to me. She creates such an atmosphere πŸ™ We had a big blow up on Friday because she wants her disabled shower put in the bathroom my son and I use instead of in hers because there isn’t a shower in there. It is ridiculous but once an idea gets in her head there is no talking sense to her. I am not willing to manhandle her along a narrow corridor to get her washed if she has another stroke and I don’t want carers intruding in our space to do it either. She has a lovely big ensuite bathroom next to her bedroom where it obviously ought to go, where it would be easy for us to help help her and there is room to keep the bath for my sister too, but she won’t listen to sense. And now she is steaming with anger towards me because I won’t give in and let her misuse public funds. She needs that shower, she hasn’t washed much in the year since her stroke because she can’t get into the bath to use the shower over it even with all the aids we have bought for her and she doesn’t want anyone to help her. She is maddening!! And she tells me that I am potty!! She has always been really good at sneering at people. I did rather lose the plot but if she listened to people they would be able to talk to her. She literally can’t hear what you say to her because she won’t wear her hearing aid and yet she is also sulking because I don’t talk to her enough. If only I could run away! She makes me feel like the miserable teenager I used to be before I got away from her before. The problem isn’t that she is old, it is that she hasn’t changed. Arggh. Sorry. Rant over. Fasting again today as if I go any further the wrong way I will be back out of healthy territory. I am not letting her do that to me. I have worked hard to get where I am now.

    @fatrabbit, my ‘oldie’ related stress the last week’ whilst no way as difficult as yours, has certainly impacted my weight. Let’s ‘hold hands’ and remember that we are not products of our circumstances. We are products of our decisions. We can reset and be determined that no-one and no situation deserves to disrubt our WOL and pursuit of happiness. Xx

    @fatrabbit my mum became very difficult during the last few years of her life. Never had anything good to say no matter what we did for her. Hang in there and take a deep deep breath. Sounds like you both need a bit of a break from each other. It’s very hard looking after your elderly parents. Xxx

    Well, despite having a controlled outing on Friday, I made some silly choices this weekend – the sugar dragon reared its ugly head. The good news pocket winos is that I had a couple of gins on Friday night, but have had nothing else since. Back on the wagon this week. It’s hard to believe that we’re nearly half way through the month.

    @daffodil2010 – there are exercises to counteract those painful shin splints – I used to run and sympathise with your pain. Curiously, I found I got shin splints when I stopped running and went to fast walking. Try googling it.

    Fat rabbit or lean rabbit have patience with your mum remember how much patience she had when you were a baby and she’s your mum. I’ve been there and you find a lot of satisfaction if your patient when they are gone and miss them too.

    Its going to be difficult to do a fast day until this Thursday as I’m dining out today tomorrow and Wednesday. However I’m trying to fast until I go out for dinner today. I did overeat this weekend.

    Weekend of overeating. I actually overeat the full week apart from the only day I managed to fast (Mon or TUes, I can’t remember). I feel stressed and weak, more than when I had some good reasons to feel stressed and weak! anyway, reading your posts helps. I think I just need to have a good week to get back on track. But at the moment the dragon seem so strong! I am dreading going to the supermarket later on today. I will think about you, you are so inspiring.

    @fatrabbit. One thing I learned from looking after my ( lovely) mother in law, and from listening to my friends’ experiences, is that you never feel you are doing the right thing. BUT, it can make you ill if it’s very stressful. Can a health visitor talk to her and get her to choose the better option? You never know. Hope you work it out. The forum keeps me on this WOL, even when I mess up. Thanks all.

    Aiming for a very controlled (CD) day today. I’ll be B2B2B-ing at work, as usual, on days 15-17 so I’m being mindful until then, because yesterday’s NFD wasn’t even remotely controlled!!!!

    I need to drown the dragon today to kick start some weight eradication!!!!

    Back into my work routine and simple eating habits. I’ve got a speed awareness course tonight better than the 3 points on my licence and Β£100 fine. first time in 18 years I don’t speed very often or at all just a lapse in concentration.

    Back to the grid stone today. Yesterday was a so so day. Didn’t really have the ambition to do anything but I managed to get it all done. Last week, I was a bit side ways for this WOL, so this week I’ve made a few goals to help ensure some extra effort goes into my habits. Hopefully, this will be enough to get me walking straight again!

    @berries…… I love me some crabs too, even tried the Adkins diet, read all the books and still never got over loving them. I’m glad to hear that you have found a happy medium between your mood and your diet. That’s why, I made 5:2 a WOL, because of our ability to tailor it to our specific needs.

    @fatrabbit……. I’m sending you a massive hug. My sister and I are putting up a good fight for our moms health too. For myself, I believe our mom is in denial about her health and so she put unrealistic demands on our family and those around her. I wish there were some magic words that could make it all better but all I can say is you are not alone.

    Day 13 Akron OH NFD. I stepped off the plateau with a 3 pound loss. So happy!
    Now I’m aiming for a controlled day today and back to fasting tomorrow. I’m back within my happy weight range πŸ™‚
    @fatrabbit that sounds so stressful. Everyone I know who has taken care of elderly parents says the same thing, you have no idea how hard it is till you have to do it. Hang in there, and take one day at a time. You can’t control her attitude or demands but you can control how you respond to her. I agree you have worked too hard to allow the stress drag you back.     Day 14, Hampshire, UK – FD

    Sorry been so hectic at work, never get a chance to post. Had a successful FD on Friday followed by 2 NFD on the weekend, I baked some cupcakes this weekend, I probably shouldn’t have..but I also did 2 runs, 6km on a Saturday and another 5km on sunday morning, trying to bring my 5km below 30 minutes, around 32 minutes at the moment but I also started at 48 minutes sometime back, quitting smoking has allowed me to cut 2 minutes off my PB, its amazing!! I also cycled with the husband for 13km on Saturday afternoon so I hope I made up for those cupcakes.

    We went to London to watch the IIAF finals yesterday at the Olympic park, what an amazing evening it was, well done to Team GB and Team USA who both did very well. I tried not to snack too much over the evening, had a few but we did a lot of walking too. It was 1pm by the time we got home so a little tired today.

    I didn’t loose anything last week but maintained at 70kg, I have increased my cardio so should see something next week I hope.

    Im sticking to fasting mondays and thursdays,,,continously thinking about fasting one more day (every other day), og switching to mondays and fridays…but hope to manage to stick to this monday/thursday-plan for a while…before i start messing things up… but it seems for me that a friday fast would keep me away from the overeating my daily kcal on the weekends… well, i can just try to be strick again. Had 18 family members for barbeque’ing on saturday, but all i ate was a bun with ham/cheese for brunch, and 170gr of beef….in addition to some caramelcrunch-popcorn, and some slush πŸ™‚ (we have 2 slushmashines and 2 popcornmachines in our house)…good think it takes a lot of “effort” to start them up, so its not an everyday or every weekend kind of event.

    Today im fasting. Last time i ate was yesterday at 8pm, and some bouillon (?) for lunch, 1/2liters. Planning to eat when i get home from work, but it wount be until around 7pm-ish… did i do a 15hour fast today? (from 8pm yesterday to 11am today)…or does bouillon (buljong) count as liquid? ..if so…if i eat at lets say 7 or 8pm…did i manage a 24hour fast?

    Due to my busy weekend i had ALOT to read last night and this morning πŸ™‚ Loving the support everyone gives to everybody. Looking forward to reading this forum everyday.

    @debster251 – athletics was amazing – thank you so much for asking.
    It helped me conclude that if those amazing athletes can work at having such wonderful physiques, then I can at least do half as much and feel better in my own skin – we all have the same potential of being fit and healthy.

    On a separate note, the food over the past fortnight was amazing too – amazingly bad for me!!! I am bloated, have bad skin and feel tired. Time to get back to where I was 2 weeks ago πŸ™‚

    With the stress accumulating due to my thesis DL approaching, I realized I either had to give up fasting on Thursday or experience a breakdown. Thus I let the day turn into a NFD and have been stuffing my face and not counting calories up until today. The scales were showing disappointing yet not surprising numbers yesterday, but I’m going to ignore those and start anew this week. I’m aiming for a 0 kcal day if the hunger pangs don’t get the best of me.

    Planking challenge: I’m one day behind on my schedule (will catch up on Wed), but other than that it’s going pretty well – today’s completed planking was as follows:
    65 sec high plank / 30 sec elbow plank (forgot I was planning to add 5 secs) / 35 sec right foot raised / 35 sec left foot raised / 35 sec left side plank / 35 sec right side plank / 35 sec high plank / 75 sec elbow plank for a total of 5 minutes 45 secs.

    I had a cd on Sat but went off the rails yesterday! Today is a Fd but I’m struggling so just had some cottage cheese and a miso soup – would really like a pb sandwich, but I will resist!! (feeling the need for carbs!)

    Hello day 14 usually a fast day but going for a controlled day Co Down NI

    Sorry I have been missing in action over the last few days all of which have been non fast days. As number 3 son is home for a few days it has involved food and drink with more bread than usual so feeling a little bloated than usual – last meal together tonight so will fast tomorrow – if I can get the dragons back under control and in their cage. Had a lovely day yesterday tho – for my Mothers day present earlier in the year he bought a picnic trail ride. We traveled to the very picturesque area around Armoy/Ballycastle and had a 2.5 hour trail ride including up to a summit where our picnic was waiting for us. It was a beautiful day and we could see for miles. So lucky with the weather. At the end of the ride we went into the x country course and I even popped over a few fences – it was an exhilarating way to end the day. Needless to say I am quite sore this morning as it has been a while since I was this active on a horse.

    Sorry I haven’t caught up on posts (6 pages to catch up on) and find out how everyone is but for @fatrabbit whose post I saw on this pages as I scanned down – as difficult as the situation is and some people are more difficult to deal with than others – remember or try to remember its not the situation – its your reaction to the situation that counts. As you say you have worked too hard for someones unkind words to undo all that you have achieved.

    Decided to make this as fast day as been busy and just in from the gym. Have just had a green salad so as almost half way through the day decided might as well carry on the good work! Trying hard to make my August target of 61KG…. scales showed 61.7 this morning so should be possible with a bit of luck and a following wind!

    @fatrabbit–Holy cow that sounds stressful. My parents died when I was young so I won’t have that experience, but I got a taste of it with my OH’s mom and dad. It must be so frustrating to suddenly be dependent on people to get into the bath after decades as a self-cleaning grownup. Take good care of yourself–somebody suggested bringing in a home-healthcare person and that might be a good idea because it will take some of the pressure off of you and your mom might be willing to listen to a ‘professional.’

    Today is my OH’s first day of IV chemo. He’s been very unhappy since his diagnosis in March. He was one of those people who never got sick and then one day they told him he had the “Big C.” He’s been extremely difficult (getting angry a lot) but I don’t know if I’d handle things any better if it were me, so I’m trying to be mindful through it all.

    Anyway, I’m stuck between 147.5 and 148.5 for the past week. Darn. I’ll do a B2B and see if that helps.

    very disappointed, i missed a FD last week, so today should be my 5th but its the 4th. I have put on a few lbs since starting- not sure why. I have decided I’m going to eat much more healthier on NFD and go gym on NFD also.

    Lets hope this works. What have peoples results been so far, and are people exercising?

    I did my best to be controlled yesterday despite having friends over for grilled steak (with several glasses of great red wine) so saved up my calories for the day to have that meal. I’ll get on the scale tomorrow morning and see how it looks.

    Sounds like there are some real concerns amongst us… @fatrabbit – dealing with a stubborn parent can be ever so frustrating. Virtual hugs to you!

    @coda – how fun you got on such a great trail ride and picnic! Must have been ever so wonderful!

    Today will be grandchild minding. We’re starting to gear up for school for them, so likely it will include some shopping today. Yeah! I love spoiling our granddaughters!

    I did my first Fast day yesterday and had lunch out with friends today, cheapest lunch out that I’ve had in a long while as I didn’t want pudding or coffee after my jacket potato with tuna. Everyone else tucked into both but I didn’t feel out of place saying no as I geniunely didn’t want anything else.

    Cold, wet day today so keeping busy with household chores to take my mind away from my slight tummy rumbles.

    Pocket Winos – Hi! I’ve taken my seat on the wagon till Friday.

    @fatrabbit – its a sad fact that people don’t generally improve with age, if anything those annoying character flaws can seem magnified by advancing years as their world shrinks with poor health…..another horrible fact is that we have to deal with difficult parental demands at around the same time that the onslaught of menopause hits. Wish I could think of some helpful advice, but right now I’m learning to grit my teeth and hope this is a life stage that I will emerge from stronger. Someone suggested getting a third party (health visitor) to mediate, that sounds like good advice…..my OH took over to deliver some home truths last year and was listened to when me saying the same thing for months had been ignored! Hope you’re taking some comfort from the empathy and hugs that are sent your way.

    Day 14, California, cold and foggy. NFD 153 lbs. Taking a friend out for her birthday lunch, so probably will indulge to keep her company. Tomorrow will be a FD, for sure.

    Day 14, Rocky Mountains, US, FD

    Back on the wagon! I fell off it starting Wednesday and ate and imbibed until yesterday. Of course, I feel bloated and just not well. Reset starting today. This indulgence gave me almost 3 pounds back. Hope to get rid off them soon to be back at my target weight and maintaining.

    Norway, FD, 2nd post

    Today has been a hard day. I have kept to my 500kcal, but I have been hungry several times and really had to fight it. I now know why you call it the dragon πŸ˜‚
    Anyway, I will be able to fast the rest of the day, but I look forward to this FD being over. Next one is Wed, so I actually start fasting again in 24 hours, can’t say I look forward to it. Will try to have a relatively controlled day tomorrow so maybe I won’t be as hungry on Wed.

    Did a sneak-peek on the scale, down 200g from this morning, so now I am REALLY excited to see what it shows tomorrow morning! Motivating!

    Day 14 California USA FD

    Not a very controlled weekend but I managed to get back onto my almost 3 week plateau of the 138’s 62’s. If nothing else, at least I know I can maintain this weight with 2 FD and not-always-well-controlled NFD through the rest of the week. But, time to move on! It’s time to kiss the 62’s goodby and move downward! Today is my regular Monday FD and my second will be Friday. I’m hoping to get to my goal of 58 by sticking with the 2 day a week fasts. But may have to consider 3 days if I don’t get the NFDs under better control. Nobody told me the NFDs would be harder than the FD!

    @fatrabbit – Sending hugs your way. Can you find her some type of diversion to get her mind off the bathroom thing? Or find a 3rd party opinion that she might respect?

    DAY 15 Queensland Australia NFD

    Hi all
    You know what I love about this WOE….I had a lovely weekend with wine and yummy food…put on weight when I weighed in Monday morning (no surprises there!!) But after a good FD yesterday am back down to below where I was last Friday. For me that’s what makes this so sustainable. I can do FD’s and CD’s during the week, indulge a bit over the weekend if I want to and know that by getting back into 2 FD’s and controlling NFD’s during the week I will still lose weight. Life is to be enjoyed so I don’t want to feel deprived or that I can’t enjoy myself with good food and lovely wine on occasion and on this WOE i don’t feel deprived at all. Scales told me I was 600g lighter this morning after an easy FD yesterday and that was after indulging over the weekend. So I’m happy with that.
    @fatrabbit thinking of you and also you @keesteel. I hope you both are able to look after yourselves. You both have a lot to deal with and it must be very stressful Hugs to you both. @coda your trail ride sounds fabulous!! What a fantastic day. Well done on your first FD @slim2fitit!!

    Brilliant fast day today, didn’t eat until 7pm this evening. Only struggled slightly once this afternoon but managed to successfully distract myself and carry on. Can definitely feel the clothes getting baggier now πŸ’ͺ
