  • Day 10—ABQ—FD
Thanks, @debster251, @ducks_d, and @onahealthyhigh for your advice. My initial intention was to be able to wear a certain pair of pants, and I’m almost there except for that extra waistline fat! Maybe a dedicated schedule of planking/yoga/pilates will do the trick, and then to maintenance.
According to Tanita, a healthy visceral fat number is 12 or less. They give you number scores, not percentages. See this explanation of measurements: http://www.goodmeasuremeals.com/products/tanita
@daffodil2010—I had the exact same experience yesterday. Started out with good intentions but was soooo hungry all day, and then my dance class was cancelled so no exercise! It was no “snaccident” either—I gave myself permission to dive head-first into a bag of tortilla chips and followed it up with a school of goldfish. 3000+ calories! Grrr.
@maayaa —I started dieting on March 13, 2017 weighing 167. On May 1 I discovered this WOE and since then weight loss has been great – on Tuesday was 147 though I went back up yesterday. I am getting better at fast days; now I need to work out a proper non-fast-day protocol (i.e. eating) because that is where I mess up.
@molij—It sounds like you’re still grieving. Be sure to take good care of yourself.
@dykask—Your description of the cost of western food in Japan actually sounds pretty comparable to what we pay here in NM. We are in the desert and have to import a lot of our produce. Since my OH was diagnosed with colon cancer in March, I’ve been paying extra for organics.

    Day 10, Norway, FD

Second post, just checking in at the end of my successful FD.
Thanks to all of you for replying and telling and explaining, i really appreciate it. And its really motivating to read all your stories 🙂 Got me through the day, i keep reading throughout the day.

I started off my day not having any breakfast, as i have actually never liked eating breakfast. Was not looking forward to lunchtime due to this one naggy coworker. I guess she means well, but i just dont want to hear it right now, and i dont want her to know anything until i see results at least. After a we kg down i guess i would LOVE to tell her. But, when lunch time came i was actually honestly not feeling hungry, so i said so, and she accepted it 🙂 I joined her for lunch, but just without food. And then she seemed to forget to nag about med not eating for the rest of the day.

Since today have been quite busy after work, i had my OH buy me a 15inch (half) subway…and this is according to Lifesum about 300kcal, but according to google/subway a bit difficult to know exactly, so i left it with this one thing…no more food for me. I guess i will go to bed within an hour, hour and a half anyway, so I’m gonna make this one too.

Another thing i find a bit strange/shocking….but a happy one though…my Suunto used to show me a resting puls at 88-92 (i know, really really high!!)…also did my Polar V800…. but now its in the low 70ś…. can i guess that this is some of the health benefits with this diet, or is there something wrong with my new watch? 🙂

I also want to join in the planking-challenge…im gonna browse for more info now 🙂

    Day 11/NFD/Melbourne Australia

@lilymartin such a stressful time. Wishing your mother the speediest of recoveries. My beautiful 89 year old mother broke her hip. The first place we found was so depressing. One of the nurses suggested we check out a local palliative care hospital to see if they had a bed in their long term care unit. I can only say it was one of the most uplifting periods. Mum was so spoiled, met some wonderful people and made lasting friends. She also made a full recovery. On our part we shared the journey with some amazing families. I learnt so much.

I wanted to do a FD today and I failed argggggggggggggg:(. Tomorrow I will do it.

    DAY 11 QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA NFD
wow…happy with the scales today…half a kilo gone after a successful FD yesterday.
Funny thing is I didn’t feel hungry at all during the day. In fact I’m noticing generally that my appetite is less than it used to be…do others find that too after a couple of weeks in? Boiled egg on a slice of toast yesterday FD (for a change from berry smoothie). Then nothing but herbal tea and black tea till dinner. Usually I’d be ravenous by then…but for some reason I was just a bit peckish so ate my dinner (approx 140 cal). Most pleased that I’m sticking to being alcohol free through the week. Sure that’s helping as those (lovely) couple of white wines during the week no doubt contribute to the bulge. However tonight is Friday night, end of work week and I may indulge…but will definitely try not to overdo it. OH is on this WOL as well and determined. He has lost around 3 kilos since we started about 3 weeks ago so we are both motivated and determined and both finding this WOL quite easy to stick to. I think it’s easier as we are on the same path and also don’t have our kids at home any more so just buy the food we need not having to cater for others. We actually get calorie controlled meals delivered (just buy a couple of weeks worth and freeze them) at the moment and its easy as we work late and are easily able to monitor what we are eating. Our “vice” is loving to eat out but only going to do that one day per weekend.
@maayyaa like I said I’m new to this too but it’s working. I don’t have an awful lot to lose but what I have was proving very hard to shift and I kept creeping up in weight. This has stopped the creep for me and started to turn me around (Oh that reminded me of you @bert1802 !)
@rox there is no such thing as failure!!! In fact I think that particular “f” word is banned on this forum!!!! Today is another day…as is tomorrow so just back into it and stay strong.
    Have a great day everyone.

    Day 10 – Cumbria UK – NFD

    Busy………

    @belmc thank you!.

Week 1 – Felt good and stuck to 2 fast days reasonably easily, just enjoy water, hot drinks, a piece of fruit in the morning and a light dinner later. Feeling healthy and enjoying eating healthily with the odd treat through the week, walked most days and back to Yoga this week too. Lost 1 kg this week.

Hello day 10 ?? Co Down NI
Busy not caught up on posts but hope all are doing well x

@maayyaa — yes, my resting pulse has also dropped, especially on FD’s when no food is being digested (making the body work more). Mine has always been low (65-70) but now on FD’s it’s in the mid 50’s.

Day 11 Australia NFD I will keep repeating @at‘s mantra over this weekend as I aim to eat and act differently and not undo all the good I have achieved during the week. Started my day with a walk and then avocado and tomato on toast for breakfast. I just need to keep focussed.

    Day 11 – Tokyo, Japan – FD 81.9kg

Bit of a bounce up, but I’m feeling good. After today I won’t fast until Tuesday and then I think I’ll push it, maybe even 4 days B2B. I just don’t want to stress out my wife who isn’t ready to accept fasting yet.

My middle is still a bit bloated, 87cm vs 86cm (or less), it is down from a couple days ago though. Not sure what is going on there. However I’ve just moved to the last notch on my belt again. So my lower waistline is less. Weird …

Day 10 Massachusetts USA NFD Tough day with company arriving for dinner. My new plan of estimating my weekly calories at or close to 6000/week, my two remaining NFD’s will have to be around 1000 only, my FD of course 500. I have to remember that without this discipline I won’t reach my goal. Sending best wishes to all!

Day 10, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Hello all, had a great day out with friends. Ate at Wendy’s, had a small chili, value fries and Jr. Frostee – Diet Cherry Coke. Plenty of food but not over the top.

For dinner had cottage cheese, cantaloupe and sliced tomato. Finalized plans for a home addition which will include a new garage and sunroom. Two Amish brothers who live down the road from us and are –

    a. Very experienced home builders and
    b. Very, very nice

will be doing the work which is great. As they said, you know where to find us if there is a problem (about 1/4 mile away). haha… Wonderful young families we are blessed to know.

Bought the cutest pair of grass green kitten heel sandals and matching purse (well it is woven straw with grass green inserts). Can’t wait to wear them both with a few of my long summer dresses. Great buys as the fall/winter stuff is being brought out.

Hope everybody is doing well, treating their bodies with the respect it deserves and embracing each moment.

Hope you had a great anniversary, Anna, and wishing you many more !

Day 10 NFD St. Louis USA (still in Alabama 2 more days)
No scales and no fasting this week but doing fairly well and not over eating. Did have ice cream three evenings and tonight split a piece of Keylime pie with my daughter. Keeping up with my 10,000 or more steps a day plus yoga practice. Planning to get a massage tomorrow and then take a yoga class. The week has gone by quickly. We are leaving Sunday morning to drive home. Will start back with a fast on Monday and Tuesday and a kettle bell class Monday evening. Will weigh myself Monday morning and again on Wednesday after my second fast day.

Catching up on post and saw the one about the Tanita scale. @keetseel posted. Don’t know what that is but will scan back to the post to see if there was something earlier that I missed.

All my best to all of you.

    Day 10. Québec. NFD

    Day 11, India, FD
Had a great FD yesterday. Plan to be extra careful this weekend. I realized I had started to be quite careless on my FD’s, was able to fix that yesterday.

Good morning from Norway, NFD (7am)

For some reason i wanted toasted bread with ham and cheese for breakfast today, weird cause i dont really care for bread…. but so i did….and now i am at the office, and my stomach really hurts 🙁 … maybe not the smartes choice after my FD yesterday?

Last time i ate before my FD was wednesday at around 9pm (when i ate the 100gr of crisps (so unnecessary!) and then i didnt eat until 4pm on thursday… so this counts as 19hours of fast, then my 390 +/- dinner at 4pm…and then nothing before a 6 o’clock toast today…so another 14 hours of fasting? Maybe i should have waited until lunch today…then i would pass 36hours?

Yesterday i tried to find some info on this forum, but no success. Can i just ask, what is 16:8? and where can i find the plank-challenge?

    Day 11 – Meath, Ireland – NFD

Good FD yesterday, despite my DH swanning around glass of wine in hand, I did not join him 🤗
Girls night tonight, my friend is cooking Mexican and copious wine will be consumed. Looking forward to it. I might fast tomorrow until dinner time so but depends on any wine hangover.

Have a good weekend all with good choices.

    Norway, FD, 7:15 AM

So I have my second FD today, yesterday I was scared (again) that I would be terribly hungry. But my plan is to do the same as last time: lots of sparkly water to keep that water and salt balance in order, and I have brought some rye-crackers (knekkebrød) to eat when/if I feel hungry. Hoping for a busy day at work. Somehow I don’t think it will be….I am waiting on everyone else to be able to go forward on almost everything I have on my plate right now (approvals of reports, results from the lab, etc). I work as a research scientist in a big company, new to the job, only been here 5 months, but I love my job very much 🙂

Hope everyone has a great day, especially the ones with an FD today 🙂 Stay strong!

    Still day 10
@ Maayyaa – 16:8 is 16 hours fasting g and an 8 hour eating window. For ex fast 8:30 pm through 12:30 noon & then have an 8 hour eating window.
For the plank challenge there is no one challenge. I Googled a simple one.

Day 11 Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 NFD.
Good FD yesterday. If ever there was a good reason to keep away from processed food.
700,000 dodgy eggs in processed UK food.
I’m guessing there’s more across mainland Europe. Luckily my eggs come from the allotment 😁. Youngest Sons Wedding Saturday it’s all coming together. Weather looking good for Saturday.
Good luck have a great weekend everyone.

    Day 11 UK NFD

Fast day yesterday went well. Only a pound above lowest weight now. Another lovely sunny morning 🙂

    Day 11, NFD, UK
    Yesterday was another successful FD.
On my way to London world championships (athletics) hoping not to do too much damage over the weekend!

    Day 11 – Woking, UK – NFD
    245.9lbs
Fairly full on gym session last night hence the 2lb weight gain overnight. I know this is what happens when my muscles are hanging onto water as they repair after weightlifting but it still irritates me to see the scale jump up 2lbs overnight.
I do feel better after a gym session though so I know it’s worth it.
Oh well, time to be controlled over the weekend and fast again on Monday.
    Have a good day everyone!

    Day 11 UK FD
Lost 1lb this week but more importantly 1/2 inch off the waist! Using Fitness app to track food and exercise and realise how easy it has become to consume empty calories. Bizarrely FD seem to curb my cravings for some things and my stomache seems more settled. Fingers crossed this next week when I will be holidaying with the family!

    Day 8 UK NFD 🌈
    Day 9 UK NFD 🌈 🍹🍸
    Day 10 UK NFD 🌈🍰☕️

    Having lovely days with friends.

    Day 11 North Wales NFD
Very successful fast day yesterday. Woke up really wanting breakfast. 142lbs this morning 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I ate breakfast yesterday. I have come to the conclusion that I am better not eating breakfast and saving all my calories until the evening meal on fast days. So that’s what I will be doing in the future.

Looking forward to a curry and a couple if G & T’s. I have decided not to drink wine for a while to see if drinking a lower calorie drink makes a difference.

@rox hope your FD today is successful. You can do it. When I struggle on the fast day I reread bits of the 5:2 fast book or the posts here to distract me and keep me motivated.

@belmc I have noticed a drop in appetite too. I also feel full quicker. What I am still not good at is stopping when there is still nice food on my plate. I was bought up having to finish the food on my plate so I am expecting this will be the most difficult habit to break. I already give my husband the largest portion of a meal (he doesn’t mind and as I have said before doesn’t put weight on no matter how many cakes and biscuits he eats 😩)

@steve toon taxi driver wanted to read your post but the link did not work. The weather is looking good for your son’s wedding so I hope a fabulous day will be had by all.

Hope everyone has a good day and a fabulous weekend.

Remember we are all together stronger 💪💪💪💪💪 and we CAN DO THIS.

    Day 11, UK, FD

    Day 11 Netherlands NFD 16:8

A successful fast yesterday and another kg dropped, so the weekend indulgences have gone as well as another half kilo! My eyes are really white this morning too.
Just need to remain sensible this weekend and go easy on the wine….

@SteveToonTaxiDriver am jealous of your allotment eggs! Not surprisingly eggs have vanished here and we eat a lot. In France I used to buy them in the market fresh from the producer but the street markets here are not the same so have to rely on supermarkets. Enjoy your son’s wedding – hope the weather remains good for the occasion.

Good luck to all you Friday fasters.

    Day 11 North Wales NFD

Had written a long post but for some reason it won’t let me post it 😥

@molij how strange. I received your post by email but can’t find it here. I’m happy to copy and paste if it doesn’t appear.

    Day 11, Belfast, NFD

My FD went ok yesterday – still not too busy in work which doesn’t help. But i think I got by ok.

@steve toon taxi driver – I haven’t even clicked on the link and I’m laughing 😉

    Good luck everyone today!

    Day 9- nfd -Scotland
    Day 10 – nfd – Scotland
    Day 11 – FD- Scotland

The last 2 days have been very bad – yesterday I managed to eat 3 big cookies, a brownie, and a slice of chocolate tarts. This after a normal lunch. Still feeling unwell today. Tomorrow we are spending the day in North Yorkshire with the in laws, back on Sun evening. I’ll try not to eat anything during the day althought I doubt I’ll be able to fast tomorrow as we’ll end up in a pub for dinner…

    Day 11 Belfast NFD

@belfastsink – well done on the half stone. Those milestones are so important for self esteem.
@lyonlottie – when I retired I wasn’t sure how I would fill my days. Now I don’t know how I had time to work!
@bert1802 – it’s cool and wet here. I’ve kinda got a plan, but I need to research a bit. Do you rotate your crops?
Tea-girl20 sometimes our clothes show what the scales don’t! Well done.
Penz – the glory about this WOL is that reset button!
@lilymartin – rehabilitation care for the elderly is a big problem here too. I hope you get sorted soon.
Keep your focus @califdreamer. You’ll get there!
@molij – Losing our parents is never easy. Hugs to you. Xo
@maayyaa -16:8 refers to the daily routine. So within a 24 hour period, you would eat within an 8’hour window. So I usually eat my first meal of the day at around 11am and try to have my evening meal before 7pm. That leaves a fasting window of 16 hours from the end of your evening meal to your first meal the next day. I’ve been doing it for a year or so now with some success. Here’s couple of links for planks. Good luck!

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ASdvN_XEl_c&list=
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=

Stay strong Rox. You’ll get there. Even if you can’t manage 500 cals, why not try 800?
Good loss @belmc. It makes it easier when you and your OH are on the same journey together!
@steve Toon – ha, ha! Enjoy your son’s wedding. Fingers crossed for the weather.
@cat47 – sorry I don’t have you on the spreadsheet. Done now. Here’s the link.
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oHFqnmdzVCzauz5eJOzqQfuHywXgRwErhMyTS3MSHog

@lindasue – how exciting to be getting a new home extension! I’m hoping to re-do my bathroom in the autumn.
@sirisan. I just love key lime pie. I could eat a whole one!
@rahul 1905 well done for getting there!
Glad to see you back on track @fatrabbit.
@msraven – I’ve been watching the athletics every evening. Do you have tickets for Fridqy and Saturday – think that’s the last time Bolt is running. Hope you have a ball!
Well done on your loss @pippet

So the weekend is finally here. Pocket winos, I’m going out tonight for a friend’s birthday, so am breaking the abstinence, but will go back on the wagon on Sunday.

    JUST DO IT!

    Day 11, Wales, NFD

Pocket Winos – it’s been a good week, and the weekend starts tonight- will drink mindfully!

@steve toon taxi driver – have a fab time tomorrow.

    Happy Friday everyone.

Well, I haven’t posted for a few days in protest to my weight gain. I’ve been on a plateau for a week now. Extra fd did nothing. I’m officially unimpressed. Ps. I know it’s normal BUT still unimpressed. I really need the motivation of seeing the scales going down.

    Day 11 – London, UK – NFD

Lots of fun at the open-air theatre last night. Apparently the actors went ahead in the rain the night before, wearing wellies and waterproofs instead of Victorian costume – I’m so glad we had a sunny evening – especially as we were in the cheap seats without a canopy! Lovely to catch up with lots of friends too.

No time to make a packed lunch this morning because of prepping for tonight’s dinner, so today is feeling a bit chaotic already. I should just enjoy the calm while I’m at work (ha ha).

    Thanks @debster251!

Happy Friday everyone, and enjoy the weekend.

    Day 11, Newcastle UK,?

Yesterday was a disaster. New strategy. Forget strategy, stop obsessing, calm down, focus on other things for a few days. Regroup next week and press reset.
Have a super day tomorrow @steve toon taxi driver. You’ve worked so hard and I’m sure your son and all your family will be so proud of you.

    Second post

@onahealthyhigh thank you for the offer to repost my original post. I am trying to post it again.

    Day 11….. Florida…..FD

I’m a bit sideways this week. My FD and NFD are all over the place. So, I’m making life a bit more difficult than I need it to be right now. The road is even more dangerous when you walking side ways, pretending to watch were your going and praying you are not really going back wards.
I really got to get my crap together!

@steve toon…. I hope your sons life with his future bride is withstanding and joyful.
Now, I’ve got to say WTH, on that article!!! Poor man! And to think he’s not the only person who have hurt themselves for weight loss. Really makes me wonder what the heck slimming world is telling these poor souls.

@ debster…… as far as rotating the types of veg. No, we mainly plant the same things, we just add something new each season. This is mainly because I harvest seeds out of what I grow. Except for the few plants, I’ve managed to keep going I have pepper, eggplant and tomatoes that I have had in the same place, growing and growing. My eggplant is three years old.
I do however rotate placement for new growth except for my cukes and cantaloupe, they always get planted in an area that gets 100%shade.
I love answering your questions and helping you along the way…… So ask anything you like! I’m happy to pass on knowledge on a dying art! I was taught by my neighbor who plants and I still pick his brain when things look odd!

Okay, well it’s that time again!

I was addicted to the hokey pokey then I turned myself around!

Hi i am Bona and i started 4:3 fasting lifestyle Monday the 7th of August. i am 34years old 167cm high and weight 75kg, ive never been so fat in my life and i really think i need to do something before that i completly lose control of my body. i have always been into a very healthy lifestyle, eating mediterranean diet, no fast food and ocasionaly desserts strictly homemade, an average of 1400cal daily. i walk a lot like 5000 steps on average every day, and i also go to the gym but not on regular bases.

this week i fasted on monday, wednesday and friday by eating not more than 400cal per day and that was mostly hard boiled eggs and vegetables.

on non-fast days i continue eating my standart 1400cal

i also increased the daily average number of steps to 6000

my ideal weight is 58kg and i really hope that i am doing the correct things and have some results soon.

suggestions are welcome and appreciated 🙂

    Day 11, London, UK, NFD

Once again, thanks everyone for your kind words, thoughts & hugs…………….. I’m touched.

Well yesterdays’ FD turned into a NFD, no biggie, just released the dragon too early and got a take-away to share with my mum as I kept her company. The evenings and night-time are difficult for her at the moment. Out to lunch with a friend today, so aiming for a CD of 20:4, and I’ll have a FD tomorrow.

I haven’t been following my own advice to ‘drown the dragon’ I know that 3L water a day helps with weight eradication, prevents the continuous thoughts of food, Food, FOOD!! and silences the tummy rumbling!!! I’ve just got to get it together and settle back into my routine, no pressure, this WOL allows for these detours!!!

@steve toon taxi driver, good luck for your sons’ wedding tomorrow, I hope the sun shines throughout!! I guess the lady of the ‘Chinese take-aways and a night on the sesh’ probably sneakily threw a couple of FDs in there and almost caused a riot!!!!! SNN always good for a LOL with a pinch of salt!!!

Stay strong everyone, I hope we’re all keeping the faith!!!!!

    Day 11, US, NFD

Have a good weekend everyone. Thinking of the pocket wino club – we’ve got a lot of social engagements this weekend but bizarrely I think they will operate to curb the booze dragon!

Day 11 Akron OH FD. Yesterday was a NFD and I did not stick to TDEE unfortunately, I have to do better with that.
@vsinanj have you calculated your TDEE using the tools on this site? That will give you a great idea on how much to eat on your non fast days, if you’re following 5:2 strictly you may be able to eat a little more than 1400 calories (if you want)
@amella46 plateaus can be very discouraging, I am standing on one right now with you. Eventually though, even the worst plateau cannot withstand the Fasting Destroyer 🙂 Sometimes it takes a few days for either my FD or overindulgences to show up on the scale-which is why I weigh in only once a week. I am glad you are sticking with it. Not only is there a lot of encouragement on this forum but even when you are on a plateau, there are tons of good stuff going on in your insides where you can’t see it – Cellular repair, HGH increase, enhanced hormone function, reduced inflammation, improved heart and brain health, reduced risk of cancer, extended lifespan. So when I am stuck on a plateau I consider these evidence based benefits and think hmm my weight loss may not be showing up right now but I’m giving my body the tools to fight Heart disease, Cancer, Alzheimer’s and Diabetes so… yeah!

Day 11 – USA (Utah visiting DD) – NFD

Yesterday turned out quite well. I’ve had fair success eating a good healthy breakfast about 8 a.m., an apple for lunch, then normal supper. I see on this forum more people eating in a 16:8 pattern, but these 2 meals a day do seem to be good for my body on maintenance.

Busy day planned with 2 granddaughters after my Silver Sneakers class.

    Onward and downward!

    Day 11 – USA – FD

Planning for a FD today, but I’m a little wobbly about it…@Basyjames, thank you for the reminder of all the benefits of 5:2; a friend sarcastically asked me what your body could need a break from eating for, and I was tongue-tied. I answered that your body needed time to repair….”repair what?”….duh, don’t know. So thank you. I feel smarter now, lol. Don’t you love open-minded people like that? @Stevetoon, have a great time at your son’s wedding! Congrats to you and your wife on gaining a daughter!
