  • Hi to all
Thank you for all your posting.
My first FD was ok a little of headache. Today will be soup day :D.I read that fasting helps to improve your immune system. I have eczema, I have try almost everything. I am hoping fasting with help to improve my body responses. Does anybody have some experience about?
@onahealthyhigh I agree with you 5:2 is more than a diet.

    Good look to all!!!

    Day 8 Lancaster, PA FD
    Started at 159.6 lbs 8/2/17
Today’s weight 155 lbs lost 4.6 lbs. Yay! βœ¨πŸŽ‰I reached my goal for this month!😊

@coda I also find if I just make up my mind, and not necessarily sharing my food plan, I eat less and do better.

I accidentally cracked my back tooth, that needs to be extracted. Trying to get the courage up enough to make the appointment with the orthodontist. So, I can’t chew on … anything, even lettuce. If I rest my upper jaw with teeth on my lower jaw the pain is excruciating. So 1 reason to stop eating. Now, only soup, yoghurt and liquids for me.😊
I have tried the warm, unsweetened low cal, low fat coconut milk with ginger, nutmeg and turmeric, and vanilla Stevia very calming and helps with sleeping well.

A FD for me… Good Luck everyone! ✨😊✨

Day 8 Newcastle UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ NFD.
    Busy day today.

Day 8 – SW WA USA – NFD

Day 2 of planking for me. It feels good to be doing them again. Hoping my midsection will not only strengthen but shrink a little; lose some of the pouf.
Yesterday, I had a doctor check-up; first proper one since I moved to this area 4 years ago. I was impressed that she is in favor of IF and is well versed in Dr. Fung & Mercola and others as well. She’ll be a support on my journey.

@Strawberriesandcream – what is TICK; besides what a clock does?

Norwegian friends – staying under 500 calories on a FD is not a problem, as others have mentioned. Drinking enough water is important and sometimes some have found salt might be needed.

@lilymartin – so glad your mum is improving after breaking her hip. That’s a tough thing to happen. Our family has found advocating while the elderly parent is in the hospital is important & energy consuming as well. Hopefully you’re taking care of yourself as well.

@okeydokey – ouch, cracking your tooth sounds pretty nasty. I hope you can get it taken care of in a timely fashion instead of prolonging the agony. I know it’s not your favorite thing to do. May you have strength and peace to take care of it.

Day 8 – McMinnville Oregon USA – FD
    Day 7 – NFD

I have been out of touch and behind in reading posts. I will get caught up today.
Hope everyone has a great day.

    Day 8, Emden Germany, FD

    Day 8 – USA – NFD

Second post: @okeydokey, my heart goes out to you….I’m still not able to eat solids and it’s been almost a week since I got my tooth extracted. Your situation seems much worse, so I hope you are able to get a quick appointment and let them do the deed and be done with it.

Day 8 NFD St. Louis USA
    Day 7 NFD
    Day 6 NFD

I’m on my vacation holiday in Gulf Shores Alabama at the beach. This is my first week not fasting since 1 March when I joined on this site and began with this way of living. I am attempting, and so far seem to be managing, to stay with in the limits and not overindulge. We went out for ice cream last evening and I had two scoops. Probably could’ve done with one but don’t feel guilty about it. Tracked 12 steps and 15 minutes of yoga on the balcony. Also keeping with morning meditation and evening reflections. Haven’t been able to weigh myself and probably won’t until I get home. I’m keeping in mind the dialectical abstinence and reminding myself I have this program and should I gain a few pounds I can get right back into my routine.

@lillymartin. Sending wishes for quick recovery for your mum.

To my Australian faster-friends, I’ve come to look forward to my toast with butter and Vegemite on non-fast days. Have offered to share with my family and a couple of my granddaughters have tried it but so far not succumbed to my level of enjoyment. Everyone keeps singing that down under song about the Vegemite sandwich. I just tell them they’re weird. More for me.

All my best to all of you.

    Day 8–ABQ–FD

Awww…I wrote a long post today and it disappeared. Oh well.

    Together we are stronger!

    Norway, FD

@songbirdme and @annemarilyn thank you for answering my question πŸ™‚

I have not been struggling with hunger as much as expected today, which feels good. I have been drinking sparkly water, water, and coffee, and eaten some rye-crackers. I think my total kcal today is about 400, totally acceptable πŸ™‚ Have been running to the toilet a lot though, a lot of fluids in = a lot of fluids out I guess. I am looking forward to breakfast tomorrow though :-p

The plan is to fast on Thursday again. I will be home with my youngest (1 yo) then, which I think will be more challenging to not eat. But I am motivated to do this, and reading Mosley and Spencer’s book now really helps with that motivation! All the health benefits! I am in awe…

Stay strong all my fellow fasters πŸ™‚

    Day 8 – Cumbria UK – FD

Had a great 1hr High Intensity Pilates class yesterday evening and a lovely walk this morning of around 6km and we even got some sunshine ⛅️
Plank Challenge going well – twice a day this week – 2nd session still to be undertaken today

Friends dropped by yesterday evening so some 🍷was imbibed but did not go overboard!!!

A good FD today – broke my fast with a glass of homemade kefir after a 20hr fast and then had some soup for my evening meal tonight = Total of 383 cals for the day!

Welcome to @carlick @sydwil2 (welcome back to this WOL) @rox @pippet @jelly-bean @poneill6 – this WOL does work!! The following link by @simcoeluv might prove helpful and answer a lot of your questions:– https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

@hannahwatto – πŸ‘for yesterday’s FD – must be a good feeling to get one done after a hiatus of some weeks!
    @kokua12 – πŸ’ƒ
@basyjames – are you eating to TDEE for your current weight or for your target weight?? I found it easier to eat to TDEE for my target weight when I was trying to lose weight so that I did not have to readjust on reaching target! In real terms if you eat to or just below TDEE on 5 days a week and to 500cals/1/4 TDEE on your FDs you will lose weight…….if you go over TDEE on a given day you can always cut down by that amount the next day……….
@yvyj13 – as @onahealthyhigh said – welcome to the pocket winos. We love our wine but not too much and not everyday!!!! Start by not having any on your FD and then cut down to 3 or 4 days a week and it will help the weight drop off…..
@mari84 – Hope your FD today is going well – stay strong and positive
@songbirdme – Thank you for the link for Freeport Choral Society and may I say how fabulous you looked in your multicoloured dress πŸ‘—(sorry could not find an emoji of a multicoloured one πŸ˜‰)
@lilymartin – πŸ€— I do hope that your mum is on the road to recovery now – must have been such a shock for you and the family x
@coda – all was not lost as that was probably an 800cal day
@okeydokey – so good to see you are back on a losing streak – well done – so sorry to hear about your cracked tooth – do get it seen to sooner than later please πŸ€—

Great job by those who are getting rid of the lbs/kg or maintaining πŸ’ƒ

To those who are struggling a bit – PLEASE KEEP GOING WITH THIS WOL – IT WORKS!
This from someone who has lost over 35lbs/2.5stones/16kg and maintained that loss for the past 9 months. The health benefits of this WOL is a key reason I see this as a lifestyle and not a diet – weight loss is a very happy byproduct 😊

I thought I would share my personal motto on this journey β€œLosing weight is a mind game – change your mind – change your body”
I see fasting as a permanent part of my life going forward as it has allowed me to achieve my goals in weight loss and improved my mental and physical health and it has shown me that I am much stronger than I thought I was!!
And best of all I have learnt that I do not have to give up all the things I enjoy – a nice glass or two of wine – a lovely piece of cake …….etc. BUT I DO NOT HAVE to drink/eat it every day and in such large amounts as previously to be satisfied!!!!!
Remember – IF YOU CHANGE NOTHING THEN NOTHING WILL CHANGE!

    Day 8, Gozo, Malta, nfd

Hi Debster251 can I join please. I’m back from my holiday today and as it was a cruise I ate quite a lot of delicious meals, desserts and also cocktails which I normally don’t. I’m weighing myself tomorrow morning and intend to have a fast day tomorrow with my husband as he also want to lose weight.

It was an NCL cruise and there were many Americans and Canadians on it. The food was very good and I would cruise again with this cruise line. I have gained weight and I’ll know how much tomorrow morning.

Thanks Debster251 for taking up this challenge.

    Have a great evening everyone

Day 8, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Hello all, heading toward the home stretch of my second fast day (500 calories or less) in a row. Plan to break the fast with a big bowl of sliced cucumbers and tomatoes along with a boiled egg and cheese stick about 6 tonight. Then one more 500 calorie day – very easy to do on the days I work (M, Tu, Wed).

Got in quite a big of exercise already and I’m no where near done.

Almost a gallon of water/green tea.

Feel so energized, almost hyper when I don’t eat very much. Anybody identify with that?

Going back to read, having been on my computer all day as I have actually been working – at work ! What’s up with that?

My best to each of you losers….. ha ha….

    DAY 9 QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA NFD
YAY…After an increase yesterday, despite fasting the day before, the scales show I’m down almost half a kilo today. Kept to around 650 cal yesterday so I suspect it was water retention. (Feeling your frustration with the hard fast day @penz!!)
Thanks @songbirdme for the article on benefits of eating eggs. I do enjoy them for breakfast although last 2 weeks have been having berry smoothie (half skim milk half water) Congratulations for your efforts everyone and good luck with that tooth @okeydokey….sounds very painful. Hope you get it fixed soon. Pocket winos I’m with you…AF till Friday for me. And definately NONE on Sunday….makes the Monday fast WAY too hard!

    2nd post
lilymartin, all best wishes to you, I hope your mum is improving, braking a hip is rotten when you’re older.
Debster I have a turmeric tea bag (pukka ). I’m sure it helps with my arthritis and with sleeping. I generally have one morning and evening.

Another busy day, this morning cleaning/ sorting my airing cupboard. Got 2 bags of β€˜stuff’,which I took to thecharity shop this afternoon. Feels so good!!

I kept my fast until 12.30 broke it with a small avacado and some vegetables. Oh and I went to decorate MIL’s cottage – tenants have left and it needs a freshen up. Up and down ladders all afternoon! Came home and had fish pie and veg. went a bit mad with a slice of choc fudge cake with my coffee – yum!!

Tomorrow is a fast day and hopefully Friday.

    Onwards and down! Happy fasting!

Second post – just touching base.
@quebecoise – the newer thinking is that you can eat up to 800 cals on a FD so I think you’re covered!
@bert1802 – I’m glad your sister is doing well on this WOL. I have the same kind of problem as your sister, and I’ve managed to halve my meds since starting this WOL, which is great.
@poneill6 and RussellCairns – you are very welcome. You are on the spreadsheet!
@songbirdme – great link about eggs
@okeydokey – you’re on fire! Well done for meeting your goal and hope you get your tooth sorted.
@sirisan – that’s what this WOL is all about. Enjoy your holiday.
@anna6 good to see you again and glad you enjoyed your cruise. You’re on the spreadsheet.
    Wise words @at. Thank you.
    @rocy65 will look for those

Even though it is a NFD I forgot to eat until 3pm, when I had an apple, then my evening meal. On this WOL I have learnt to listen to my body. Previously I ate mindlessly because it was a mealtime. Am also pleased with my water intake which has doubled.

Remember: it does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop. – Confucius

Day 9 Australia NFD a good start to the day – poached egg on spinach leaves and a banana. Will have homemade, vegetable soup for lunch and leftovers for dinner. I bought a microwave egg poacher and am now furious with myself! Yet more plastic in my cupboard and it was even fussier and messier than just poaching an egg in a saucepan! Thanks @at – I am feeling so pleased about finally getting an FD under my belt!

    Day 9 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 80.0kg

After a workout I was down to 79.2kg which is below the goal I set last August when I had a DEXA scan done. My body fat is back in the teens, ~19% by my computations but that is likely a little high. Bio-impedance puts my visceral fat at around 10%, ideally that should more like 7% for that type of measurement. Height/belly ratio is up a bit at .49 which is still okay. Strange weight is way down but my belly is a bit bloated.

@lilymartin – So scary with your mother’s fall, it is good to hear she is doing better. I have a uncle a few months ago fell getting out of a car and broke his hip. He had to move into a nursing home. I think he is 87. Much worse when it happens to your mother!

    Day 8 NFD
    It’s all good πŸ™‚
    Cheers!

    Day 9 FD Sydney

Second post because I am SO proud of me… haha….

Tonight my husband decided we should have taco/taquito night which is the night (usually once a week or so) that we have some combination of small thin taquitos or large spicy taquitos or small tacos or large tacos or empanadas or burritos and don’t ask me why – mozzarella cheese sticks. I put whatever we choose on a cookie sheet, spray with butter spray and bake until nice and crispy and crunchy. Serve with sour cream, salsa and homemade guacamole.

WELL, tonight being a fasting day I didn’t have A N Y . I had about four Aldi’s Savoritz garden vegetable crackers (they are so good – big and thin and crispy, 20 calories each – long bright green and brown box should anybody shop at Aldi’s – give them a try) topped with about a tablespoon of homemade egg salad each. Will have a nice bowl of cantaloupe cubes a bit later. And I already got in my weights, bike, AbCoaster and planks. It feels so good to be so good. haha…

I make myself laugh, that’ for sure.

May you all have a laugh filled day/night.

    Day 8 San Diego NFD

LindaSue Love the Aldi vegetable crackers idea. Putting that on my menu for next week after I shop.

Forgot to add, changed my break the fast menu from cheese stick, boiled egg and veggies when I realized that I had leftover egg salad. Will be eating the above tomorrow night. I am trying to keep within 500 calories in a one hour eating window on my fasting days. So far so good this week. Two down, one to go.

Lilacgranny, they have a couple of varieties, I like the garden veggie best but I am sure they are all good – think one is whole wheat.

    Day 9 | Sydney Australia | FD

It’s amazing how quickly the weight comes back.

4 days ago I was at my lowest weight in 6 years (126 kg) and now I’m back up to 131.

Even if I’ve eaten 2,000 surplus calories every day the most **real** weight I could have gained would be about 1 kilogram.

I’m going to put off having my first meal today until afternoon or evening, and try to get in a good session at the gym as well.

Annoyingly my gym has moved from right next door to work. It is now about 5 or 10 minutes walk up the street. I guess that’s extra exercise at least.

    Day 9 Brisbane Australia NFD

First day of no breakfast cereal on a NFD, it’s 40+ years of habit to break. Am now ready after 8 months on this WOE to try it, only eating something when I feel hungry and changing it to savoury fresh healthy food instead of sweet. Taking on @at ‘s mantra of IF YOU CHANGE NOTHING THEN NOTHING WILL CHANGE!

Best wishes to all out there today, drink lots of water!

    Day 9 – UAE – NFD
    A quick check-in..

2nd post … After breakfast my weight was still 79.6kg … my scale claimed I was 75.6kg 133 days ago with 18% body fat (9% visceral).

I normally do lose weight when travelling. I guess I don’t eat enough for the increased activity level. Traveling with my family in Japan is pretty active.

My appetite is lower today than what I typically experience after fasting. I think there is a nutritional component to my appetite. When I’m eating a good heathy diet I have less appetite after fasting than if my diet isn’t so healthy. While I did have an excessive amount of ice cream on the trip the rest of the diet was reasonable and not fasting for a week might have topped off my nutritional reserves. Even fast food in Japan tends to be healthy. One can eat very unhealthy here but you have to work at it and it gets expensive. Basically food with lots of vegetables is cheapest and fish is the cheapest meat. When I’m in the states I find it is a bit shocking because the food dynamic seems reversed, it is easy and cheap to eat unhealthy and one has to work at eating healthy. I think Japan is much better that way, although sometimes I get a little bored with Japanese food.

    Day 8. Quebec. NFD

@debster251 thank you for the precision about the 800 calories.
@at. I just love the idea of the mind game. I will remember it.

    Wishing everyone all the best.

    Day 9, India,NFD
Another FD turned into an NFD last night as I ate chocolate, only a slice and another small dessert. I am so scared of going downhill. I know it’s all in the mind but I am feeling a bit low off late with one thing or the other. One of the motivations to lose weight was to try to conceive, my chances are not that great because my ovarian reserve is very low. But we have been trying for more than a year and a half now. So I guess when my period shows up l sometimes find it hard to deal with the crushing sense of disappointment.
I will try to have more controlled days and stick to my 4:3. As they say today is a new day πŸ™‚

    Norway, NFD

I weighed myself today, after my first FD yesterday, and I lost 2 kg (4lb 6oz)! Wow! I know I know, it is mostly water, but it was very motivating to see that πŸ™‚ Already looking forward to my next FD tomorrow πŸ™‚

    Have a great day everyone!

    Day 9, Norway, NFD

    Good morning.
@mari84 congratulations!! Its motivating to see the scale going in the right direction!

I had lunch (2 fishcakes and 2 white buns (?)) and Mother India Take Away for dinner, thats all i ate on my NFD, but im worried i might even overdone my kcal intake, or at least pretty close to it. It was grilled chicken in tandoori sause and a garlic nan…i’ve tried to work out the kcal in this via google, but its mainly guessing.

I’m actually looking forward to a FD tomorrow. I’m the kind of person who doesnt want anyone to know what im doing, at least not until there are results to show…especially at work, “everyone” wants to comment on whats good for you or not etc… so i struggled on monday with my FD at the office… so tomorrow im going for a small lunch (230kcal) and the rest for dinner…that way i keep them quiet at work πŸ™‚

    Day 9/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Day 9- Co Meath, Ireland – NFD
    August Goal: 149 lbs
    Current weight: 153 lbs

I cracked the 10 stone barrier this morning and weighed in at 10 stone 13. Onwards and downwards. Yay πŸ€—

Had planned a FD today but my sister is visiting and wants to take us to a local restaurant fir dinner so I will do 18:6 today, good dinner choice, no wine as I am driving, and have my FD tomorrow instead.

This WOE is so convenient 😊

I am also amazed how clean and vigorous I feel by NOT eating until later in the day. All those years of thinking I would faint if I skipped breakfast πŸ™„πŸ™„

@maayyaa Thank you! It is indeed very motivating =D
I agree, there are SO many people who looks at me as if I am totaly dipshit crazy when I say I am fasting. “isn’t that a bit extreme?” And when I tell them about other health benefits (and that weight loss is merely a happy side effect) they look at me as though I have joined a sect or something. So I think I want to keep it more quiet from now on too. Too bad, usually I like to tell people because that sets expectations and commitments, but this time I think I will just keep quiet. I have all you guys in here to talk to about this, yay!

Day 9 Newcastle UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ NFD.
Weight has stabilized at 2lb above goal after Saturday’s blowout. FD tomorrow and another blowout this Saturday then back to normal eating. I’ve scrapped the idea of going under 13 stone as I’m quite happy at that weight and 13.7 stone this probably is my upper limit. I’m still putting in a 14 hour fast every day along with one FD a week. Hopefully that will keep me out of trouble lol. Have a great day everyone whatever your doing and keep at it.

    Day 9 UK FD
Cooked meals for the family yesterday so that I don’t have to be in the kitchen today…

Day 9 UK NFD – swapping out today’s planned fast as my sons are planning a surprise night out for my OH As its his birthday tomorrow and one of them is heading back to uni at the weekend, have a lot of socialising planned over the next few days so going to try and show some control and be back to fasting next Monday

    Day 9 Cornwall UK FD

Aching shoulders today from sanding a ceiling yesterday.
I did sleep well so maybe lost some weight!
Weigh in tomorrow – I found weighing daily demotivating so not for me.

Lindasue – I’ll put the veg crackers on my Aldi list!

I don’t count calories (I did that for too many years) and I don’t worry too much about going slightly over 500cals on fast days.
I do make sure I have my Chlorella and my homemade kefer in the morning then eving is vertually always a 2/3 egg mushroom omelette with lots of greens, our own spinach is SO tasty!

I am really trying not to eat bread and potatoes -bread is my downfall, especially a fresh artisan loaf!
So I do eat carrots, green beans, broad beans etc – I know they have carbs but healthy ones, plus they grow in my garden!!

I no longer have any low fat processed dairy products or processed products in general.

I’m very impressed with the planking, gym and exercise you are all doing! I do walk, cycle and pilates I love planks but I’ve not done the longer routines that some are doing. So must give it a go!

I will be getting on with the cleaning /clearing and decluttering again today. Looking at what’s lurking under various beds!

I will meet a friend for coffee -no cake – and a visit to MIL who is in a home.

Just caught up with your quote β€˜at’
If you change nothing, nothing will change. SO very true!

    Good Luck everyone!

Quick question… this “stone” measure for weight, is this “fearly new”, or have you guys (uk-people only?) always used this? I thought those how didnt use KG used lbs/pounds…

    12.7stone, is that 12 stone + 7lbs?
    So 6,35 x 12 + 3,1kg = 79,3kg (174,1lbs)

    Nust one more thing!

I always have my cider vineger in sparkling water on fast days really suppresses the apetite!

Other days it goes in my water bottle, on the go!

It is great for inflamtion so helps my arthritis and my system generally!

    Onwards and down!

    Day 9, Wales, NFD

@maayyaa – UK has always used stones and pounds, 14 pounds is one stone.

Have a good day everyone x

    Day 9, UK, NFD
Put 2.5lb on since my last weigh in 9 days ago – that’s not too bad since I have been celebrating my 40th since 30th July!

I was back on it yesterday though with a FD which went wonderfully well πŸ™‚

Aiming for another half a stone loss this month…

    Day 9 – Woking, UK – FD
    244.6lbs
Good workout last night, although I’m not a fan of sets of press ups and 250m rowing intervals I can definitely feel that it’s done my arms some good.
Fast day today and I’m working from home this morning before heading up to the hospital for my lymphoedema appointment so I need to keep focused and not mindlessly eat because I’m at home.
Good luck to all my fellow fasters today!

    Day 9 North Wales NFD

I have discovered another benefit to this WOL. I have a yellow skin colouration on my upper eyelids. I think they are called Xanthelasma. They are caused by high levels of cholesterol. I noticed yesterday that they have almost disappeared which is fantastic. Going to book a doctors appointment to check my cholesterol levels. Hopefully they will have gone down. πŸ˜€

    Day 9, UK, FD
Yesterday was a very controlled NFD, right up to the point that I opened the wine. And bag of kettle chips. And Pringles. Must have been a good 2,000 useless kcal right there 😑

Hello Day 9 Co Down NI 800 day

Switched my fd today until tomorrow as I have a hairdressers appointment and it will suit better.

I believe when you eat healthy your body is getting the nourishment it needs from less food but when you eat junk it needs more or keeps asking for more in the hope it will glean what it needs – hence you need a lot more junk food to fulfill your needs.

    Day 9 UK NFD

    Day 9 Sunny Belfast NFD

I haven’t seemed to have had much fluctuation in my weight recently. I’ve really been eating quite mindfully since the beginning of the month and harvesting my lovely veggies. Hopefully, I’ll see a reasonable loss this month. My plank challenge is coming on. I have started your 5 min challenge @at so my goal is to get through the full 5mins. I’m getting there!

@quebecoise – this might be of interest
    the5-2dietbook.com/many-calories-fast-day
@Big_ bill – don’t lost heart. Hopefully it’s water retention.
@lindasue – lots of positive vibes coming from your post! We don’t have an Aldi here. I wonder do Lidl do them or similar?
Ducks_d- I’ve found changing my regime to no breakfast has had a huge effect on my weight control. Good luck with that.
@dykask – you must have amazing scales if they identify visceral fat. What make are they?
@rahul 1905 sending you lots of support and (((hugs))).
    Well done @mari84
@maayyaa – people can be funny about fasting. When your results start to show you can take the credit then!
@daffodil2010 – I’m envious! I’m currently at 11 st 1.25 – I dipped just below for a day but the weight just slithered up again. 😯. Let’s do this together!
@steve Toon Taxi Driver – you’ve really got a handle on this WOL.
Rocy 65 I’ve tried ACV but didn’t really get on well with it. I might try it in sparkling water. I drink water kefir every day, and also make my own natural full fat natural yoghurt in a thermos flask. I haven’t bought shop yoghurt for several months now. It’s delicious, especially with the summer fruits that are around at the moment. I’m off to buy the turmeric tea bags this morning. I’ve turmeric in milk with black pepper as a kind of latte, but I haven’t really acquired the taste yet!
Great news MoliJ. Hope those results confirm the good news.
Think that is so true @coda.

    Thank you @at
Remember – IF YOU CHANGE NOTHING THEN NOTHING WILL CHANGE!

    @maayyaa.
That’s me just confusing everybody the UK operate in Kilograms now. I’m old school so still use the old imperial measurement system
    16 ounces in a pound.
    14 lbs in a stone.
    8 stone in a hundredweight.
Although I believe a hundred weight is different in the US than it is in the UK. Hope that helped to muddy the waters some more for you LOL. For the sake of international diplomacy I will post all my measurements in pounds from now on 🀣🀣🀣.
After the groups discussion on pease pudding a few weeks ago I have now learnt there are 6 new flavours including one with Newcastle Brown Ale and another with Marmite.
You can find all these delicious wonders on the Quayside market in Newcastle upon Tyne. And the name of his stall is ( Give pease a chance ) well I found it amusing anyway.

Just in case there’s not enough confusion I thought I would post this here too lol

Weights: Grains and drams, ounces and pounds, stones and tons.

The basic unit of weight in the British system is the grain – originally based on the weight of a grain of barley (but note that money was based on the grain of wheat – and that three grains of barley weigh the same as four of wheat). This grain is the troy grain – there is no other weight of the same name.

The weight of one grain is constant throughout the many different systems of British weights. As you will see below, the ounce and pound are anything but contstant, but have altered to meet circumstances over a period of over a thousand years.

The avoirdupois pound is the pound in general use today. As its name implies, it was intended to be used for weighing heavy goods. This pound is of 7000 grains, and is split into 16 ounces (each, therefore of 437.5 grains). Each ounce is divided into 16 drams (which my calculator makes of 27.34375 grains each – much more fun than metric isn’t it?).

    avoirdupois weights
    16 drams = 1 ounce
    16 ounces = 1 pound
    7 pounds = 1 clove
    14 pounds = 1 stone
    28 pounds = 1 tod
    112 pounds = 1 hundredweight
    364 pounds = 1 sack
    2240 pounds = 1 ton
    2 stones = 1 quarter
    4 quarters = 1 hundredweight
    20 hundredweight = 1 ton
NB: The sack is not in common use. There was a ‘Butchers stone’ of 8lb until the end of 1939.

The Troy pound was of 5760 grains, and was divided into 12 ounces, so a troy pound is lighter than an avoirdupois pound, but a troy ounce (at 480 grains) weighs more than an avoirdupois ounce. The troy pound was declared illegal in 1878, but the troy ounce continues in use today for weighing gold. The troy ounce is split into 480 grains, and you will see 1/2 ounce weights marked both ‘240 grains’ and ‘0.5oz’. However, the apothecaries system also has an ounce weighing 480 grains, being divided into 8 drams (sometimes spelled drachms) of 60 grains, each dram being split into 3 scruples, of 20 grains. To make things more fun, a 2 dram weight would be marked ‘3ij’ – I think that ‘3’ means ‘scruples’ (there being 3 to the dram), and the ‘ij’ being an old-fashioned way of quoting the Roman numeral ‘ii’. It doesn’t end there – there are 20 penny-weights to the troy ounce, so the 1/2 ounce weight mentioned above could also be marked as ‘3iv’ or ’10dwt’.

    Troy & apothecaries weights
    1 ounce = 480 grains
    1 ounce = 24 scruples
    1 ounce = 20 pennyweights
    1 ounce = 8 drams

The wool pound was of 6992 grains, and was (of course) used for weighing wool. The clove, stone and tod mentioned above were also used.

The tower pound was used for weighing coins, and was of 5400 grains. I believe the name tower comes from Tower Hill, the site of the royal mint. This number of grains comes from the traditional weight of an English silver penny of 22Β½ grains (Troy, or grains of barley – the same as 30 grains of wheat), and 240 pennies to the pound. The tower pound was abolished in 1527.

The London pound, or libra mercatoria (trade pound) was 7200 grains (i.e. 15 troy ounces). This died out around the middle of the 14th century. One London stone was of 12Β½ London pounds.
