  • Day7 UK. FD

Going to try 3 FDs this week, I’m off today but got a busy week in work from tomorrow so hoping I won’t be too focussed on food and too tired to think about it! So today is apple for lunch and chicken salad for tea. Lots of walking as my oh has taken the car to work today. Pocket winos – I’m determined this week, no alcohol till Saturday..

Need to shake things up as the scales aren’t moving at the minute.

    Day 7 London πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ FD

Had a sneaky weekend (well, one night) away with some of hubby’s school friends for a birthday and happy that I haven’t put anything on since Saturday, despite drinking a good amount of prosecco and some nice desserts. Back to FD today. Have a lovely smoked salmon potato salad for dinner tonight. 😊

    Have a nice day all.

    Day 7 North Wales FD

Thank you for your messages of congratulations.

@kokua12 well done on your impressive weight loss

Welcome @lilacgranny. I wish you luck

@califdreamer I did think I had put on weight as my jeans were not any looser. So I got a massive shock to discover I had lost. I then realised that my daughter had tumble dried my jeans so they might have shrunk a bit πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@maayyaa congratulations on your 2kg weight loss. It feels good doesn’t it πŸ˜€

Now I am home I am going to get back to walking 4 miles a day again and hopefully get back on my bike 🚴

Im going to stick to it though, but was hoping for better results. any idea where i went wrong?

Hurrah! Back at 17st 7lbs (just!) so now to focus on heading downwards from here. I knew the business travel was going to cause a bit of a blip, but thankfully the recovery has been quick so I can push on from here.

Day 7 Newcastle UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ NFD.
I like to fast on a Monday but my weight has been all over the place 13 stone 5.5 lb Sunday. This morning 13 st 1.5lb. Thursday will be my fast day. Hopefully some sensible eating over the next few days and I will find out where I am. Have a great week everybody stick at it.

    2nd post
@nasir786 Saddly most of us can’t overeat on NFDs and hope to lose weight. It is worth working out your TDEE and tracking your food intake on NFDs to gain an understanding of your eating patterns. Whilst nothing is forbidden Dr Mosely recommends changing to a mainly Mediterranean style diet. I’ve reached maintainance by eliminating processed foods and sugar from my diet and eating lots of fresh vegetables, a small amount of protein, full fat dairy, fruit and healthy fats. Hopefully your weight gain may be due to daily fluctuations-water retention, food in transit or even the effects of increased exercise and you will experience a ‘whoosh’ But it is certainly worth checking your NFDs.

@strawberriesandcream thank you. I’m hoping to volunteer at our local primary school. Apparently I have to do a short course. My experience working in schools for the past 30 years doesn’t count!

    Day 7 Netherlands 16:8

Really wouldn’t mind doing avast today but ‘les invitΓ©s’ are still here and we’re doing a bar-b-q tonight. However they have gone to Amsterdam by themselves for the day and so I can cut right back till this evening.
Looking forward to fasting tomorrow as I think the scales are not going to be kind when I get on them!

Good luck to all of you fasting today.

    Day 7 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Change of plan not doing a FD today!
OH took me out to brunch today so it will be a controlled day (CD) followed by a FD tomorrow instead………After Saturday’s indulgences yesterday was a good CD staying under TDEE and weight is hovering around 54kg after that big dip down to 53.1kg on Saturday after Friday’s FD!

Plank Challenge – This week I’m doing the same 5 min Plank Workout but doing it twice a day. Hope everyone else is still going strong.

Pocket Winos – I’m embarking on my 3rd week of no 🍷Monday to Friday again unless I’m out socialising!

@lilacgranny – Welcome to the challenge – You have taken that first important step – The best advice I can give to anyone new to this WOL is to stick to the basic 5:2 for the first month – The following link by @simcoeluv might prove helpful and answer a lot of your questions:– https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

@nasir786 – I found working out my TDEE for my ideal weight (and not for the weight I was at the start of my journey!) and eating to that so that when I reached my ideal weight I did not have to adjust my eating to a lower calorie intake worked well for me……

@onahealthyhigh – I took early retirement in December 2013 (at the ripe old age of 55!) and I have never looked back, I did not plan to do anything just decided to enjoy the small pleasures e.g. sleeping in and doing what I felt like each day! Eventually I started doing things I had always hankered to try but never seemed to have the time………I moved from Suffolk to Cumbria when I retired and today my life is so different and I am no longer defined by the role I used to have in my working life! As others have said I found volunteering in my new community was a great way of integration into village life and making new friends as well as being able to give something back! The transition from full-time work to no work is an ongoing process – Relax and go with flow and things will crop up and soon you will wonder how you found the time to work!!!!

I have skimmed through the posts – for anyone who is struggling or have had a bit of a set back let us press our RESET button as we move into the second week of this August 2017 – 31 Day Challenge!

I will keep the pocket fasters in my mind today but have removed myself from the list whilst adding anyone I saw who stated their intentions to fast – TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER

    Day 7, South Wales, FD

Back to posting after a few days’ working away (and an indulgent weekend!). Firmly back on a plateau, but hoping to shift a few pounds in the next week or two. I’m working at a festival later this week so hoping that 3 days standing up all day will help! Adding myself to the pocket list – good luck all with today’s fasting!

    Day 7 – USA(Illinois) – NFD

Hoping for normal eating today. Will fast tomorrow then travel on Wednesday.

    Onward and downward!

    Day 7…..Florida….FD

Okay listen honey…… Tomorrow’s got to be light day. I’m dying over here. Alright, a light day it is then….. now roll over your hogging the bed. That was the last thing, we said to each other as we drifted off into sleep abyss.

So, since we were out of the house for the day and went out to lunch. I still very ripened from that meal and it’s 16 hours later. I’m curious after such a big meal, how long does the empty feeling start to comeback. Only because I’m going to keep right on fasting until it does.
We ended the meal about 3pm and I haven’t had anything but my morning coffee since. I don’t plan on having anything either.
We had such a nice day yesterday. Today, OH last day before work, more planting will be happening. As we went to the farm store and bought seeds. Beans and leeks, the basil and rosemary for the herb box. Was actually there to buy my potatoes, sweet potatoes and onion sets but I was told they are not getting any this year!
Oh my…… we’re in trouble now….. I guess I’m going to have to order on line this year.

The boys had nice weekend with their cuties. From what my OS says him and his, spent most of the weekend cooking. I figured as much seeing I kept getting texts on how long in the oven for this, what temp for that….. The hubby thinks, these our trial runs for moving in together. Or at least that’s what he’s hoping! I’ve just resigned to the fact that they are never moving out. Okay, let me revise that, I’m so okay with them living with me forever.

So that brings me to kids, married life and staying strong. My hubby and I really like each other, but being together for 20 years what do you expect. I was a stay at home mommy until YS was in 1st grade then I went back to school for not one but two degrees. Then full time work when he was in 4th grade. But even though I was home, the hubby and I at least once a month sometimes every weekend, shipped the boys to grandmas, aunts and uncles even to friends houses just to get some adult time together. We’ve even vacationed without them. Today, 20 years later still like being together and we are stronger together. By doing this we were able to stay connected as a couple but it made us better parents. Plus, the kids got to grow up in a home with parents who loved each other, worked out problems and still loved them. Today, as young adults them selves, they are building good loving relationships. As you can tell, I’m all for getting rid of the kids and working on your own personal growth.

Welcome @liliac granny…… I have to agree with @at….. for at least the first month stay true to the basics of 5:2 before adding additions. Since this is a WOL, you’ve got plenty of time to tweet it to fit you. Understanding your body, listening to it, will come with in that first month. That’s why it’s so important to do 5:2 the way it was designed at least for a short time period. I’ve been on this WOL, since Nov. but it wasn’t until Dec and Jan. That I began to tweek it. I found what food works best for me, what triggers my dragon, what doesnt, and so on.
By winning each small battle, means you ultimately win the war. No general has ever said…. let’s give it everything we got from day one. They built and refined their soldiers every day making them stronger and tougher with each battle won.

Okay, I’m thinking I need to go back to work. It seems I am beginning to ramble on and on….. Nah…. two more days then I’ll go back!

I was addicted to the hokey pokey but I turned myself around!

Extra post – well I succeeded with my first FD in weeks. Was tempted and am hungry now but so glad I made it! I’ll try to not eat until after 9am tomorrow so will definitely have done 36 hours. Good luck to the pocket fasters!

    Day 7 USA FD
I’m joining those who are pressing the reset button today. My daughter was home for the weekend which was fun, but led to a weekend with a lot more carbs in our house and life than we usually have around! May have to just pitch the cinnamon roles she left!

At least I know how much better I feel without the carbs/sugar- I just have to get back there again!

Day 5 Chicago, Illinois USA – NFD – Weighed in at 139.5, finally a 1 lb loss!!
    Day 6 – NFD
    Day 7 – FD

    Day 7, US, FD

Bad day yesterday with the vino. Oh well, it’s the start of a new week and I’ll abstain until the weekend.

    Day 7 – FIN – FD
    Day 6 – NFD

Sunday’s weight: 59.7 kg – down 100 g from the last weigh in last month, which is a positive sign taking into account how much I ate over the weekend after the previous weigh in. This will also be my start weight for this month’s challenge. As what comes to yesterday’s eating, I did certainly indulge, and was too full to do any planks in the evening like I’d originally planned. Will catch up today by planking twice.

    Plank challenge, today’s schedule:
    1st: 2 min high plank / 2 min elbow plank √
2nd: 1 min high plank / 30 sec elbow plank / 30 sec right foot raised / 30 sec left foot raised / 30 sec side plank left side / 30 sec side plank right side / 30 sec high plank / 1 min elbow plank

@annemarilyn – I’m not sure if the Sunday indulgences help with the whoosh yet, as I’m only starting with the approach this month. I will update as we move forward. As of late every other of my NFDs seems to have turned into an indulgent one, so I thought being a little more strict with those might be a good idea (I’m counting kcals for every day except Sunday). Letting myself indulge on Sundays will hopefully also keep me from feeling deprived.

186.2 to 183.2 this AM! Today I fast. This diet is working. I cannot believe what I ate this week and still lost weight. I was given a great tip that you should only weigh yourself once a week and that would be the day after your second FD. Gotta say I am not happy to start a fast day. I am motivated but I am not happy…

    Day 7 – USA – NFD

Day 7 Akron OH. NFD. For the first time ever the scales didn’t respond after my b2b FD. Plus I didn’t get that light empty feeling I usually look forward to. Very disappointing but I intend to keep pushing forward. I have had such great success on this WOE but was wondering for those of you who have been doing this awhile; anyone ever experienced this? I have found out it now takes an average of 3 b2b FD to feel emptied out, is this my body adapting to my new eating plan or (gulp) is this the dreaded “starvation mode” kicking in and I just have to live with it or ride it out?

@ basyjames…… from my own personal experience, I’m going to say your body has adjusted to what you were doing. I very seldom get that empty feeling anymore but I’m still losing weight. So, my best suggestion would be one of two choices. Stay with the 3 b2b, but either adjust by 100 calories up or down until the feeling I’d reached again. Listen to your body it will tell you which way to go.
But again, you could have missed something you normally were doing ex. Water consumption did it increase or decrease? I know if my water is up, I miss that feeling.

Lastly, scientifically speaking, there is no such thing as starvation mode. In a fasted state, you are forcing your body to use what it’s got. Based on what research I’ve done. Starvation mode was based on some reasearch done decades ago, but the starvation mode was developed on only part of the study, not based on the conclusion of the study then reinforced by diet companies when the obesity epidemic started to rise wanting to sell their diet based foods.
Now this is just personal belief associated with the so called starvation mode. There was an increase rise of the disease called anorexia. Okay, well this is when scientists began to study it more in the early 80’s, I believe. The term starvation mode was used in the early years as a physiological treatment to persuade patients that not eating was not causing more weight loss but reducing it. This was done as an effort to get them to eat something, so said treatment could begin. It was a less traumatic was to get them to eat rather then forcing a feeding tube down their throats.

Now the last part was just personal belief based on my research into anorexia.

Okay well I’m off to plant!

I was addicted to the hokey pokey and I turned myself around!

Day 7, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Hello all, back to fasting and happy about it ! A friend from church just brought a big bag of garden veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, etc. by the office so I shall break my fast with that tonight).

Drinking a gallon of water, will get in lots of exercise.

Love the restart concept of this way of eating. Never get too far out of control.

My best to each of you.

Songbirdme – hope your concert went well. Sounds lovely – and hope you got that sundae and enjoyed it !!!!!

Thank you @bert1802. I am trying to find a schedule that is sustainable long term which is why I eased away from 3 B2B. I prefer not to eat to TDEE for four straight days in a row, by day 4 I begin to lose some of my self control πŸ™‚ I have been trying to increase my water intake over the last two months and I am currently at 84.5 – 101.4 oz. a day. I know that’s a lot but boy; my skin is so much clearer as a result. Thanks for clearing up the “starvation mode” fears I had, everyone (and their mother) kept telling me that if I don’t eat “normally’ my body will go into starvation mode and I was afraid they were being proved right.
it’s reassuring to know I don’t have to have the empty feeling to lose weight. I intend to keep with this, recent challenges notwithstanding, no other eating plan has delivered the successes I have experienced and the support on here is simply too fabulous for words.
Also the time of the month may be responsible for the lack of movement, I just checked and yes I am ovulating (sorry if this is TMI) I tend to hold on to water when that happens. Things should shift soon.
    Onward and downward!!

Day 7, Hampshire, UK – NFD

was suppose to be a FD but thanks to my colleague bringing my favourite Ben’s Cookies to the office and me still being on antibiotics, I gave decided to have a FD tomorrow instead.

Day 7 Massachusetts USA NFD It worked out well to turn yesterday into the 3rd FD of the week, none consecutive. Because of my birthday Friday and a family reunion Saturday, I was in danger of going over my weekly budget, which is pretty low (at 6000 calories) since I’m a small person. So I came in below that for the week and I’m going to track that going forward to try to get off this darn plateau. Welcome to newcomers – it really helped me to get through yesterday afternoon knowing I have companion Fasters all over the world!

Day 7, USA – Milwaukee, WI, NFD

I am Liz, and am returning to this forum and to the 5:2 diet after a few years away. I joined in 2014, I believe, but didn’t participate in the forum. I lost about 30 lbs then, following the 5:2 plan, but slowly “tweaked” my way right back to regular, old eating patterns and gained back all the weight. Now I am back and determined to view this differently – as a way to eat for life, not just to lose weight.

I am a teacher and go back to work in 2 weeks, so I am hoping to get some good patterns started by then. Yesterday was my first FD, and it went well enough. This time around I plan to be better about what I eat on the NFD, and sticking to the TDEE.

I have a lot of weight to lose and was referred to this challenge (thanks @califdreamer). I hope I can still join in @debster251!

    Day 7 California USA FD

Well, the final results of the “Great potato chip massacre” whose final battles raged into Sunday after the initial Saturday night battle, have come home to roost. It ain’t pretty, but it could have been worse. I’m up about 1.6 pounds but hopefully most of that will disappear with today’s FD. The sluggish feeling and poor night’s sleep due to all that salt and oil wasn’t worth it.

@molij – Thank goodness for spin dryers and shrinkage! You wouldn’t want to be walking around in baggy jeans after your weight loss!

@basyjames – Happy to hear that you’re moving to a more sustainable eating plan. You know, the old 5:2 may be a little slow, but it does work and it’s not to hard to follow.

@sydwil2 – Welcome back to the forum and to the August Challenge. @debster251 will add you to this month’s challenge. She’s always looking for new people to add!

Looks like I have a lot of company for Monday’s FD.

My plan for August is FD Monday, 800 day Tuesday, fast day Wednesday and 800 day Thursday – it worked last week – so if I can stay focused I should be able to ‘Just do it’!

Number 3 son is coming home for a few days and we are going horse riding – so really looking forward to it. I’m sure the horse will appreciate if I can ditch another few Lbs by then. I just hope the weather is good – its a picnic ride in Co Antrim not far from the Dark Hedges (GOT)

    Day 7, Emden Germany, FD

@songbirdme how was your evening yesterday, did you enjoy it?

@songbirdme – how was your concert? Did the weather cooperate?

Have a great day global friends!

I had this long text written and submitted it, but it did not get posted πŸ™ I’ll try again:

Norway, 2nd post, NFD (FD tomorrow)

So I am having my very first FD tomorrow, haven’t done this since fall of 2015, so I am really excited and a bit afraid πŸ˜‚

And I have a question about how you count and how big deal it is with the hours. So how I think is that a fast is 36 hours: I stop eating at 20:00 the day before FD, eat 500kcal during FD and then I don’t eat anything before breakfast the day after FD. But, I start work at 7, and so I eat breakfast around 6 in the morning. So that gives me only 34 hours fast. Should I then stop at 18:00 the day before (or alternatively postpone breakfast a couple of hours), or is it not SO big of a deal that the fast lasts 36 hours?

Another newbie question: what does OH and OS stand for?

    Hi everybody
I decided to join the group today. I did 5:2 diet for 3 months this year and lost 10 pounds. After trying many diets one day I found about 5:2 and I love it!!! it is easy and simple but very efective.

Today is my first FD, I am 49 159 pounds looking forward to lose 20 pounds.

    Day 7, Portland, OR FD

I’m comfortably wearing a skirt today that I have not been able to easily zip up for months. Yay for the small victories!!

    DAY 8 QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA NFD
Yesterday was FD and found this one hard…seemed to be hungry and headachy all day. Probably my own fault for over indulging on the vino Sunday! Anyhow stuck it out and only had 500 calories, a rough day at work and an early night to bed. Was disappointed this morning when the scales rudely told me I was UP 300g!! However I put it down to Sunday and lots of water yesterday. Will have a CD today…probably around 800cal and see how that goes.Welcome to newcomers @lilacgranny, @Sydwil and anyone else I may have missed. Great results @maayyaa!!Thanks for the heads up on weighing in once a week @maddyg and congrats on your results. I seem to be addicted to jumping on the scales every morning though as seeing the weight gain makes me more determined and the loss more committed to this WOL. Will definately give it some thought though. Have a great Tuesday all πŸ™‚

    Day 5-NFD
    Day 6-CD (stayed under 1500)
Day 7-CD; plan is to keep it under 1500 again.

Almost halfway to the August goal, so feel pretty good. Tomorrow will be a FD.

    Day 7 – New Jersey – FD
I’m doing ok today! Not having a glass of wine will be a problem. πŸ™‚

Hi am I too late to join the August challenge?

    Day 8/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Yesterday’s FD turned into a CD well under TDEE. I’m very happy with that. I’m still in a bit of a slump with 5:2 but have a few simple goals to get me back on track – no wine till Saturday (reducing snacking on cheese dragon), maintaining a 16:8 pattern of eating and reducing my morning coffee consumption and hence milk intake and making an enormous pot of comforting chicken stock. Soup is my go to food to improve my immune system. I’m coming down with a virus.

A warm welcome to all our newbies. Have a read of @debster‘s post on the top of page 1 to see how this works.

    @at x
@songbirdme looking forward to hearing about the concert
@pippet it’s never too late to join
@belmc are you drinking enough fluids. Another hint shared on the forum to help with headaches on FDs is to drink somehing like miso soup, oxo or bone broths/stock.
@yvyj13 welcome to the pocket winos. We love our wine but not too much and not everyday! Daily wine is my Achilles’ heel.
@kokua12 what a wonderful feeling. Such a good motivator.
@rox I love 5:2 but as a way of life and not a diet
@mari welcome back and @sydwil2 . I’ve been living this lifestyle since September 2014. It’s the only thing that’s worked to maintain a healthy weight. I’ve had ups and downs maintaining, I’m having one now,but I’ve never gone above my goal weight. This forum really helps the support is amazing.
@molij what a good daughter. I have a few pairs of jeans I need to shrink. Lovely feeling.
@mogaman a weekly budget is a great idea. I’m small too with a tiny TDEE. Eating to the TDEE everyday would do my resolve in. A Weekly calorie budget is a great idea.

OH – other half (partner), OS – oldest YS – youngest son, DH – darling husband

To borrow from @bert I’m doing the hokey pokey and I’m turning myself around.

    2nd post.

    http://halls.md/ideal-weight-formulas-broca-devine/

Apparently my ideal body weight is 81.3kg. That is a lot higher than what I thought I ought to be aiming for. Does this mean my ideal body shape is with a spare tyre?

    Day 8 – Tokyo, Japan – FD 82.6kg

Well at least I’m attempting to do a fast day, if my family will let me. I haven’t read anything here yet as I just got back late last night. I’m 2 FDs behind this month but if I can do it today and then on Friday, I’m only one FD behind.

My weight is lower as I was more active and eating a somewhat different diet. (~1.5kg) However I ate way too much ice cream. I typically do lose weight well traveling and since this was with the family it was busier.

Day 7 Cornwall UK Fast day

A successful fast day! And what a day busy decluttering and cleaning.
This started because all the chikdren had gone this morning so wanted to put the house to rights, fine but then I got gripped by the declutter bug! Great!

I intend to continue my fast for a long as I can tomorrow. Plus continuing declutter ann cleaning out cupboards.

The weather isn’t brilliant so its good to make good use of my time!

No time read post but hope to catch up tomorrow – maybe!!

    Good luck all!

Where do I find the spreadsheet?

    Day 8 Glasgow FD

WEEK 1 went well. 2 successful FD – fasted all day the 500 kcal in the evening.
Drank p,entry fluids. Found it ok.

Found that I was more aware of what I ate on NFD, Avpble to pass on cheesecake, result!

    Lost 1kg in week 1.

    Happy.

    Happy decluttering @rocy65

    Day 7 FD
So far so good, looking forward to dinner though πŸ™‚
