Day 5, London, UK, FD
Well below TDEE yesterday, so a very controlled NFD. Feeling ok today and it should be a busy one so FD it is!!!!!
Stay strong everyone, one day at a time!!!

@fuvvie medal deserved as you signed up and saw the challenge to the end no matter about how you got there. You didn’t give up which is really what counts.
It’s not the situation, it’s your reaction to the situation – funny how some quotes just click. Thanks to whoever posted it. I have it printed out and stuck by my desk, along with Just do it!
Day 5 – Cumbria UK – NFD
A good FD yesterday with 240cals consumed = only had a glass of homemade Kefir and some skimmed milk in cups of tea!
Two weeks of no alcohol Mon-Fri saw my weight drop by 1kg on average – did I eat less during the week without the alcohol intake? probably yes!!! Weight this morning after a FD = 53.1kg/117lbs – lowest weight since I started this journey!
Busy weekend involving a fair bit of socialising but will try to be mindful! Wishing everyone a lovely weekend – whatever you are doing – enjoy and make the most of it!

Day 5…..Florida……FD
Trying again for another FD, yesterday ended up not good. We decided to go as a family to first Friday Mass. Everyone was going to be around, so family time was spent getting our hearts, minds and soul prepared for the upcoming week. With that being said, we just ended up ordering pizza and we’ll whats a family outing without a trip to the ice cream parlor before heading home.
I haven’t had pizza in ages, but I soon realized why….. I was so thirsty afterwards and bloats today. Today seems like a perfect day to fast anyways. The OS is off for the weekend with his sweetie pie, she heads of to college next week. YS is off with his side hustle. He plays every Sat in a local yugio tournament, in Oct he’ll go to regionals to vey for a spot at nationals. If he gets a spot and does well at nationals, he could get a invitation to play with all the best from all over the world. I call it his side hustle because of the money, he makes and wins when he goes. Finally, the DH got called into work. So this leaves me at home day 2 of my staycation. No one around which means I can continue my fasting state until dinner time.
Things Im considering doing…..
seeding my peppers and cantaloupe
Cleaning out the drawers of my dresser
Watching a movie
Do nothing, nothing at all!
Okay, well I’m just rambling at this point!
I was addicted to the hokey pokey then I turned myself around

Hi @debster251 – this is a good link showing you how to do some basic variations of plank properly taking you through the easy version before doing the full version – it is definitely harder to hold an elbow plank than a high plank!

Day 5 – NFD
Down 2.2 kg this morning. I’m sure it’s just water but I’m taking the psychological wooosh anyway. Just goes to show how flexible and wonderful this 5:2 approach is as last week I was away, not exercising much, eating three meals and drinking every day. This week I was back into my usual 2x FDs and exercise, and the scales have rewarded me appropriately.
Utahcougar: wishing you a speedy recovery. The only good thing about strep throat is it is probably suppressing your desire to eat!
Day 5 – USA – NFD
Well, despite not really being able to chew much, I went over my FD calories yesterday with creamed soup, cottage cheese, etc. I was grumpy and hungry. Only took 2 pain meds the day of the tooth extraction and then put them away. Don’t want to take them if I don’t really need them. Now, a beer?…that’s another story, lol. The good news is as I expected, and I’m sure it’s temporary: 172.6, a 2.8 lb. loss this week.
Day 5, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD
Hi all,
Should really be a FD today as my 800 cals FD yesterday morphed into a binge NFD! I just could not stop the emerging sugar dragon! ππ©π§π°π¦! I even went into my DH’s ‘secret’ stash! Oh boy! So today and tomorrow I will avoid sugar to get the dragon under control then Monday I will press the reset button!
Have a good weekend everyone! πππ
Day 5 California USA NFD
Had a pretty good NFD yesterday. Ate mindfully and went out with my family for sushi last night. But I ended up drinking a beer at home and 2 glasses of wine at the restaurant and early feeling it because of not much food in my stomach at the time. It was fun but the half headache today may not be worth it. I was only up .2 of a pound, so even all the soy sauce didn’t make a big difference.
We have a neighbors BBQ tonight, so I’m eating as little as possible during the day. Everyone is bringing side dishes tonight so there will be lots of tempting food to enjoy. I’ll taste in all but practice moderation.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Day 5 – FIN – NFD
I bought a bag of sweets for my calorie-count-free Sundays (which I’m setting up in hopes of triggering that whoosh effect), but ended up eating almost half of them today. Whoops. Other than that, it’s been a pretty good day eating wise – chocolate chia pudding made with sour milk topped with blueberries and half a banana for breakfast, sherry plum tomatoes and crispbreads with toppings as snack and an Italian vegetable soup for lunch. I also had an ice cream as dessert after lunch. Dinner will be seafood in some form. Today will be about 150 kcal over my lowest TDEE, but I think that’s OK since I’ve been biking.
No planks today, as I plan to keep Saturdays as a rest day, possibly also Wednesdays.
@belmc – You’re welcome. I also tend to drink at least two cups (Γ 400 ml) of tea daily and I do include those in my liquid intake calculations.
Day 5 UK NFD
Pretty controlled so far… only had 1 slice brown toast at breakfast, and met a friend in the pub at lunchtime. Resisted all the high calorie foods… do 3 vodkas and Diet Coke count as lunch??? At least quite low in calories… out for dinner with OH tonight but will choose very carefully to stay under TDEE.
Day 5 – McMinnville Oregon USA – FD
I had a wonderful evening out with my sister celebrating her birthday. I feel like I made good choices for dinner but did help myself to a few glasses of wine. π₯
This will be my first FD of the month. I donβt like fasting over the weekend but this week has been so crazy I wasnβt able to get one in.
Our AC was repaired yesterday so I had a good nights sleep last night, which was I was in need of.
@rocy65 – Your time with grandchildren sounds wonderful.
I’m off to do my morning walk. Good luck everyone!!
Day 5 – SW WA USA – NFD ?
Had a good FD yesterday & scale shows I’m undoing some of the overeating of earlier in the week. Will plan on a controlled day today. Will hopefully get a hike in at Family Camp.
@chumi – how does that work for you, making Sunday an indulgent day? Does it help with the whoosh?
@metatauta – yay that the scale moved downward for you after your dental trauma – a good side affect!
@rocy65 – I’m impressed that you were able to budge some weight even with grandkiddos around. Good for you!
@bert1802 – enjoy your unexpected day to yourself! Wondering what you’ll choose.
@at impressive self-control and results! Way to go. I like your attitude, too.
@penz thanks for the well wishes and yes I hope it pays off in weight loss. you had some good results. Way to go.
@debster251 you might consider some standing yoga like warrior pose with the variations of leaning sideways with one hand on the ground or a block; then go back to the side plank after a month of regular plank and warrior pose variations. your lowe back will be ready!
Day 5 NFD St. Louis USA
@penz hoping my post vacation weight will maintain as yours did. Gives me hope. Also hoping by now I’ve got my patterns and habits changed a bit in right direction.
All my best to all of you.
Day 5 – USA (Illinois) – NFD
Yesterday’s exercise and popcorn (at the movie “Dunkirk” – excellent) left me up a couple pounds this morning but still at maintenance. Will be very controlled today!
Friends keep giving me delicious sweet corn. That is hard to not eat… a summertime tradition around here.
@bert1802 – enjoy your time. Every time you ‘Hokey Pokey’ I always think “That’s what it’s all about!”
Day 5 –ABQ–CD
Okay, in the interest of complete honesty, I didn’t do those planks when I said I was going to, nor have I done any since. They were supposed to be the round up of a peaceful, mindful lunch break and then some work drama happened and lunch ended abruptly. Has anyone seen the movie “The Devil Wears Prada?” Well, our office is like that movie but without the funny parts.
But I will do those planks today only with my knees down until my shoulders get stronger.
Big Bill- Those free-food Thursdays sound awesome. I’d be interested to hear about the sub-continental take on nachos.
Day 5, Guildford UK, CNFD (1200)
Day 6, Guildford UK, FD
Heavy exercise for two days, back to it
I am inspired by @annemarilyn, @at, @califdreamer
So I am going out too, @taraga going to follow you with b2b2b
So mini pocketering as we overlap
Thank you @debster251 for hosting, so grateful
Mari
@bigviking – Why not switch to the 5:2 for a few weeks and see what happens? Maybe you just need a change of pace. If you’re reasonably careful you shouldn’t gain weight on it.
Still Day 5 –
@bigviking – maybe some planks for the gut? One of the challenges I found online showed that a big difference often occurs in the midsection. I’m still working on getting the planking going as well. I did them as part of a core challenge a couple of summers back so just need to do it!

Thank you for kind words! I love having the grandchildren, they are a joy! Pretty exhausting though! Down to one now with Mum, we had the village Charter Fair today. The main street shut off parades and Morris dancers, lots of stalls, traction engines and pony rides. Oh and a dog show! We got caught in a heavy shower but it was mainly dry and sunny – great fun!!
I’ve done well with my controlled day though I am going for a second Gt! Should still be about tdee!
I will start planking again on Monday. I love the plank and will try pushing for longer plus leg raises!
Also alcohol free Monday to Friday as I’m sure that makes a difference with the weight loss. My go to is sparkling water, great with cider vinegar!
I do thank my lucky stars that I don’t have sweet tooth, but my downfall is bread. I’m not eating bread at all as it makes me feel blotted and definately piles the weight on.
Loving this thread, so much great advice help and support! Together we are definately stronger!
Day 5 – Scotland- nfd
Thanks debster! I actually posted on the spreadsheet a couple of days ago and I can see my updates. I have not included my initial weight because I wasn’t sure whether to put 60.2 (which I indeed saw on 1st August) as this was the result of water retention caused by days of binging.
Today I took my older boy to a Peter rabbit show at the fringe with a friend of his and her mum. I then left both boys with her and went to see another show with my husband. I enjoyed it but I felt soooo guilty! I was running on my way back to pick them up! Food-wise, I have been good. Not perfect, but very good!
Day 6/NFD/Melbourne Australia
Good morning, lovely to wake up and read all the positive posts.
August hasn’t started well. I’m fighting a number of dragons – the hunger dragon, the procrastination dragon, the over-thinking dragon and all their little buddies. Is there such a thing as the retirement blues? I have it big time. Early months were very positive, busy and constructive but lately the days have drifted by with not much happening. I have a number of projects but not the will to start them. I’ve been neglecting my garden and feeling overwhelmed by the incursion of a new crop of weeds. i really have lost my mojo. Perhaps opening up here will help?
On the positive side I’m loving walking in the bush. There is nothing like fresh air, nature and exercise. I’m sure it’s keeping me from tipping over. My weight is stable, under goal but on the brink of exceeding it for the first time in nearly two and a half years. I’m loving reading posts from around the world.
One day at a time. Today I will enjoy breakfast cooked by my other half. He is making cheese on toast because he thinks it will cheer me up. I haven’t got the heart to tell him it’s the last thing I feel like. As to the rest of the day…
Monday is the start of a new week. Have a great Sunday everyone.
Day 5 – USA – NFD
@onahealthyhigh – I feel you! I have been retired since 12/30/16; the only time I have been home in my life since I was 16 was when I had both my children, one for 1.5 years and one for 7 weeks. Even with the first child, I still worked from home typing. Now I am 63 and there are 2 of us, and we are both retired. I think it depends on how you look at it, glass half empty, or half full. I’ve always been a “doer” and loved accomplishing things, checking off that “to do” list. I still keep a daily diary of my activities, just to remind myself that I’m not sitting on my derriere eating bon bons! Feelings are so fickle; some days I feel that my life is so full and other days, I just feel that I’m merely marking time and nothing I do matters. Like I said, it’s feelings over truth. The truth is: you’ve worked all your life; now it’s time to appreciate your OH, your kids, your grandkids, your garden, your parents if you still have them, a slower and more pleasant pace. Everyone experiences it and I say “revel in it”!
Day 6, FD (2nd of B2B), Sydney Australia
Starting this week off right, doing another B2B. This will be my 6th week of this WOE and I’ve lost 4.3kg – 9.5 pounds – and I’m feeling better than I have in a long time.
I can’t believe how positive, helpful and focused this forum is. It’s keeping me motivated and makes me smile every day.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Day 5,
NFD for me and it has been a good one!
Thank you for your kind thoughts about the fires in BC @annemarilyn it is very smoky here today. Hope we get some rain soon!
I agree with so many others, I am so happy to have joined this forum, such a nice fun supportive group.
Cheers
Well, I’m pretty impressed with my weekend. Yesterday was my first fast day for a while and I thought I was kidding myself trying to fast on a Saturday but I only had a skinny latte and a sachet of oats. Total cals=247. Normally would have had more but I was so busy. My husband couldn’t believe I wasn’t hungry by the end of the day but I wasn’t. I do get waves of dizziness sometimes but it passes.
I was down .5 of a kilo this morning, so I was thrilled. The scales usually go upwards again after a big drop but I did enjoy the whoosh.
Hope everyone else has had a successful weekend and if it wasn’t successful then I hope it was fun! π
Count me in Debster251 and thank you…
Day 1 – Gold Coast, Queensland NFD
Starting 5:2 today and very excited.
Weight gain has been significant in the last two years and even more significant following the last four months after sustaining a back injury and being laid up in pain. Also I was being plied with Brufen and Paracetamol – I never realised that Ibuprofen could cause water retention…well it has for me and now I have an additional 5kg weight to loose on top. Never mind…I’m here now and ready to get rid of 20kg of unwanted weight. Looking forward to becoming a healthier, fitter me as I have a lot of dancing to do yet…
Day 5 Netherlands NFD
Day 6 Netherlands NFD
Didn’t post yesterday – busy day with visitors. We seem to be drinking a lot. Had managed to keep it down to 2 wines a half a beer when one of our guests made Pina coladas. Hmmmm. We’ve also got a wine tasting today.
Though it’s lovely to see them, it will be good to return to normal! Still walked a lot around Utrecht yesterday. First time I’ve been there and it is lovely. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go somewhere different. Hopefully the walking counteracted some of the alcohol!!!
Good luck to anyone fasting today.
Day 6 | Sydney Australia | NFD
It’s been a good weekend of eating too much. I’m thinking I need to regularly schedule a fasting day on the weekends in future, this is getting ridiculous. Or at least a semi-fasting day (50% of my TDEE).
I’m off to the gym shortly and looking forward to pressing the reset button tomorrow.
I hit my lowest weight in at least 6 years yesterday morning.
Hello day 6 nfd co down ni nfd
@onahealthyhigh not that I’m retired but it’s early days for you. It’s just learning to adjust to a new way of living. Plan things to do with the freedom you have, visit places, maybe join a class or too that you never had time for. Was there something you would like to learn – art class, wood work etc and don’t worry soon you will wonder how you had time to work.
@onahealthyhigh retirement and depression often go hand in hand.
If you don’t mind some depressing reading, try googling something like “retirement depression”. At least you will see that you are not alone.
The good news is that I’ve known some people who went through this, and they all found their mojo again.
Day6 UK NFD
Plans for the weekend went up in smoke on Friday when friends invited us out for a meal. We don’t usually go out on a Friday, but we hadn’t seen them since before holiday and it was a pub about 10 mins walk away so it was easy to say yes to. Original plan was no alcohol till Saturday so apologies pocket winos I cracked big style. The food we ordered took an age and was really awful with 3 of the table sending meals back. As a result they kept plying us with free drinks! Upside was I didn’t each much, half of a dry chicken breast, salad and 5 (yes I counted them) chips. Downside being the several glasses of wine.
Yesterday I cooked a really nice evening meat of tuna and prawns on an avocado and tomato salsa. It’s funny how I seem to want healthy meals these days, I look at ready meals which I really used a lot and none of them are appealing. But if I see an avocado with a reduced sticker I’m on it big time!
Have a happy Sunday everyone.
What I like about this way of eating is the fasting days get me out of the habit of thinking about food all the time. My plan is to lose around two stones over two years. If I take it nice and slow, I’m hoping my body will adjust and there’s less chance of getting out of the habit and sticking it back on.
Day 6 Newcastle UK π¬π§ NFD.
Oh dear up 5 lbs π not my finest week on the 5/2. Two excellent FD but over ate on the NFD and a total blowout last night with beer and a enormous curry on the son’s stag night. With the wedding next Saturday I think I’ll be treading water for the next week or two. Not to disappointed as I think it’s how I want to keep the weight under control feast now and then, and fast to get it off again. August is a real challenge for me it’s where I am at the end and not so much what’s going on on a few days in the middle.
My NFD will be controlled in August from now on. I’ll keep telling myself that.
Good luck everyone keep at it.
Day 6 Cornwall UK Controlled day
onahealthyhigh – I feel for you, retirement takes a bit of getting used to but once you start to relax and enjoy it you’ll wonder when you ever had time to work!
Started with a poached egg on toast and really enjoyed! Lunch 2 oat cakes a small avocado and 2 cherry tomatoes. Tonight is a roast chicken, no potatoes for me but roasted beetroot, sinach and green beans all fresh from the garden. Pudding will be our own raspberries with cream. May have some bubbles later as its my daughter’s last night with us and she bought a bottle!
steve toon taxi driver – I think your son’s stag night is fine to go a bit over board! I have my daughter’s hen night in a couple of months and I’ll certainly enjoy it!!! Life is too short not to!
Back into harness this week, no alcohol and fasting tomorrow.
onwards and down!
