  • Heya , I joined the 5:2 and I’m not sure if im doing it right ?! Well , I was sure , until I saw a few posts on Facebook about people going by TIME.
I have the book , and I’ve read it , really enjoyed it and was very enthusiastic to start.
My fast days are Monday and Thursday.
I am not a 3 meal a day kinda girl anyway so on my fast days I have aprox a 400cal dinner and the rest is put towards hot drink throughout the day, normally just 1 or 2 ! So according to the book this is “good” because my fast day actually lasts longer , I have a meal sunday night about 5pm and then don’t actually eat again until Monday 5pm.These are just rough times , family meals are crazy πŸ˜‰
I’ve seen people post though and say that the 5:2 diet is meant to be done between certain times ? I’m also not actually losing a lot of weight , the book said to expect a good loss the first week , think mine must have been about a lb , and I’ve just evened out this week ! I don’t know if this has anything to do with the fact i’ve just left Slimming World after a 5stone loss ! I met my target but then just wanted to shift a little more. Would be very grateful if someone who has been on a while or knows what there doing could have a look and see if i’m doing this right ? I can give some of my details if needed !
    Thanks !

hi MrsMT and welcome to the forum!

first of all well done on loosing 5 st, wow!!!!!!!!
as you will see from all the other posts there is no right or wrong way doing 5.2, just what works for you, I don’t think time scales are very important and from what you say you are doing it perfectly right lol!!
a lb a week is about average but everyone is different, so don’t worry too much, it will work!! and if you have a small amount to loose then it can take a bit longer..but its all good!!

keep going, and happy fasting πŸ™‚

Hi MrsMT – welcome to the forum. I agree with Angie, you sound like you’re doing it ‘right’ or at least ‘right for you’, which is more important. If you’re getting on well with the lifestyle I’d chuck the scales in a cupboard if I were you and give yourself a nice surprise in a month or so. This isn’t slimming world, the weight doesn’t really matter from day to day or week to week, as long as your trend is in the right direction this is a lifestyle that you should do forever (in one form or another – 5:2/6:1/16:8 whatever), so getting comfortable with it is the key thing.

Hi @mrsmt Welcome! Angie and Tracy are right – there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way, there’s just ‘your’ way.

Books can only generalise – and the ‘Fast Diet’ book (good as it is) is a guide not a rule book .. everyone is different and things work differently for them. Some people experience big losses in the first few weeks, some others don’t see any loss until a few weeks in, others weight loss is in ‘fits and bangs’. I’m sure you will have noticed this at Slimming World when the class leader reads out the week’s ‘results’.

The fact that you have already lost such a big amount is wonderful and you may find the last few pounds are very stubborn and just hate to leave you!

There are no ‘set’ times to eat with 5:2 and the people who are saying these things usually, I have found, are usually in the category of ‘I do it this way and I’m right so if you do something else you’re wrong’. I have seen this on so many forums and websites.

The wonderful thing about these forums is that you will never see that attitude here. We all accept that we do things our own way and if someone does it another way that’s just fine.

Anyway – I’m rambling again as usual! Just keep on doing what you’re doing and you’ll get there. Keep us posted.

    Good luck

    xx

Hi, im only on my second week of 5/2, lost 3.5lb first week, but I don’t keep to any times, just like you my fast day is Mon and Thurs, I think coming out of slimming world you were eating sensibly anyway hence 1lb weight loss, where as I was eating way over my tdee for weeks, so even the normal days probably felt like a fast to my body, I don’t expect to lose more than a 1lb a week on average now, but a 1lb less it better than nothing. Keep it up and measure your waist ect bet u will see a big change there.

well said Angie090465 – that’s what I love about these forums, there is no dogmatic attitude, rather a very healthy flexible attitude. MrsMT what you are doing sounds fine. Many people do seem to see a large weight loss at first, but that seems to happen with almost any diet. I think after losing so much on your previous diet, your body is way past that “hey, we’re on a diet, let’s drop all the water weight” thing. Keep with it, it will work!

Thank you all ! There some really helpful posts there ! I have noticed that these forums and helpful and more “on the fence” no bitchy comments/arguments which is nice πŸ™‚
I totally agree about it being a way of life , it already feels like it to me ! And to be perfectly honest yes I want to lose just under a stone but the main attraction to me was the health benefits and the “leave your body to rest” for a certain amount of time etc ! I lost weight very quickly with SW and had an average of 3.5lbs a week , I reached my target within 5 months ! I kept target for 9 months and then slipped out by a stone because I do admit I love to binge on chocolate ! Hahaha , especially at certain times of the month.I had a few friends doing the 5:2 and thought I would give it a go ! I find it hard counting my drinks as calories , as im a big tea drinker but apart from that I have also learnt to “enjoy” the hunger pangs ! I just keep busy , and a young9(ISH)mom to 2 young girls that’s east ! πŸ˜‰
I would be happy with 1lb a week yes πŸ™‚ as the slower it comes off the longer it stays off I believe ! and I like the flexibility of being able to switch it up if any celebrations etc come up !
I think you’re probably correct with the scales , might give that a go , be lovely to surprise myself ! Thanks for the tip !
I did think that these people have that attitude ” β€˜I do it this way and I’m right so if you do something else you’re wrong’. I just wanted to check , it made me a bit paranoid to be hones !
I started measuring when I started SW so I will do that too , I can feel my bra is looser around the back , thanks for that tip too ! πŸ™‚
Have to thank you all for taking the time out to read my post and then reply , thank you very much ! I’m on my fast day now and have a low calorie ready meal to eat tonight , and topped up with veg πŸ™‚
The only thing I am struggling with is finding meals for my fast days ! Do you have any good advice or is that for another post in the forum ?! I would happily make like an 800 calorie meal and split with my hubby , but i’m finding it hard finding inspiration for these meals !
    Again , many thanks πŸ™‚

Hi, I’m Fliss. I’m happy to have found this site, hopefully I’ll pick up some good tips. I’ve been doing the 5:2 for 4 weeks (tomorrow) I didn’t check my weight before starting but took my measurements so looking forward to tomorrow to re-measuring. I’m really hoping I will notice a reduction. I have found today’s diet very hard to do though.

Hi MrsMT & welcome to you too Fliss. If you’re looking for meal inspiration have a look around the threads on here a bit, people are always swapping recipes & ideas. To be honest my main attraction to the diet was that I wouldn’t necessarily have to change what I ate much. I looked through my favourite recipes and calorie counted them (most were old WW recipes anyway so they were about 500kcal per portion anyway) and just kept a freezer full of individual portions for my fastdays. Now I have those on non-fastdays and just have cereal on fastdays. Easy.
