  • Wanted to share this for those who are worried about relaxing a bit on non-fast days. I started 5:2 approx 3 weeks ago, with a starting weight of 11st 4.5lbs. I have been combining this with 16:8 to get things moving. I had my usual weekly weigh in on Friday morning and was happy to be down to 11st 0.5lb. Ive been finding it relatively easy until yesterday. Yesterday was a non-fast day, and although I ate healthily for lunch and dinner (didn’t have breakfast), I found that the evening was really tough. After dinner I wanted something sweet, and ended up eating coconut ice, strawberries with squirty cream and then a few chocolates later in the evening. Apart from the guilt, I felt nauseous and had a terrible headache come on (think it was too much sugar all in a short space of time). I went to bed feeling bad. The only consolation was knowing that today was going to be a fast day, and that I could repair the damage. I gingerly stepped on the scales this morning to assess the damage, to find that I weighed 10st 13.5lbs!
I haven’t been under 11st for about 2 years. So for those of you worried about having those odd treats on non-fast days as I was, it’s okay, and confirms that this is a plan that can work on a long term basis without you feeling deprived. A revelation for me and just the motivation I needed to continue 🙂

I completely believe that eating what we want on non fast days and doing the 5:2 (or 4:3 like me) will cause continued weight loss.

I had always thought that too, otherwise if we cut down too much on the other day isn’t there a risk that our bodies will get used to the lower intake? Obviously I wouldn’t sit down and binge eat on no-fast days but just having the freedom of not counting is great. I’ve completed my first week and have lost 2 pounds so am very happy.
