Italy Day 5 – NFD
Had a fairly healthy NFD yesterday, that is the hardest part for me and will be fundamental in losing and more importantly i should think maintaining. I’m really going to try hard to find yummy things that keep me in my TDEE.
Going for another one today then liquid fasting with Quebecoise. Good luck to all Who are fasting today
UK day 5 Had a good catch up on the posts, Norrie I too was sceptical about the idea of posting online, but it’s weird I really do think We have a connection now and I love hearing about everyone’s lives around the globe. Good NFD yesterday FD today ,whilst waiting for my son at a medical facility yesterday took my blood pressure and delighted to see I was in the “optimal” range it was a bit high on my last 2 checks so hopefully another positive side effect of losing weight.
Day 5 Cornwall Uk.
Surprised that this morning I slept well and although knees are a bit achy my hips are fine!
I make chicken bone broth in the pressure cooker, carcass from a roast add 1onion,carrot and celery cover with water 40mins cooking, strain. I keep small pots in the freezer. As its quite concentrated I use one pot and add water.
All this chat about longer water fasting, the benifits and science makes me WANT TO do one! Who would have believed that! I have started to prep OH!! Today we’re out to lunch so I’m thinking I’ll start after last bite and try- no WILL fast until Friday lunch time when we’re out for a picnic so I’ll be in control of my food!!
Patti67 your account of your first 36er has inspired me!!
Bigbooty I also find sugar free gum great on fast days! Also teeth brushing really helps! Really interesting about the sparkling mineral water, I’ll need to get some in!
ETJ, Sorry to hear about the rabbits, but you did your best! I hope you get allyour landscaping and chook shed painting completed before fri and have a wonderful family celebation!! My nephew is over from NZ so were meeting up with him and the family today and again on Fri!! LOVE these family gatherings!!!
Coolcat I feel for you! New day new start, you can do this!!
HannahWatto – You Re doing so well! I wish you all the best with supporting your brothe. Stay strong x
Back2thefuture thankyou for your posts and explanations -inspiring!!
Brightonbell I’m sure we all have a hidden 6 pack waiting to get out!!
Fuvvie and HollyLJ – really hoping I’ll meet this 6lb target! I’m doing everything I can!!!
Hi all – i am on my second week on 5 2 – lost a kilo – inbetween lost a kilo and half dont know scale didnt last there long.. i am 68.7 kilos and as per my height i am suppose to be 48-to54 kilos – my wedding is in December so am really hoping to lose atleast 10 kilos from now till than.. as i feel i would look like a blimp in a white dress otherwise..
I have seen few posts about success with bone broths. sorry could someone advice me – so on fast days i just have bone broth being a water fast – if each cup of bone broth is 97 calories than i have only about 5 cups – is that correct? greatly appreciate more advice on bone broth and water fast . thanks
Day 5 Sussex U.K.
Fast day for me today as busy with family for rest of week.
Broke my Monday fast at 12 midday yesterday and found the rest of the day difficult. I feel that I am on a roller coaster as the fasting seemed easy. I think the problem was that I failed to plan AGAIN! Just got to a meal time and thought now what shall I have and by 5pm it had all gone pear shaped or should I say leftover cake shaped. It was downhill for the rest of the day with me feeling like the fat slug again by 10pm. Although tipped over my TDEE by about 200. Grrrrr
Can I learn from this? I must, and hopefully it won’t have affected my loss it’s just the ease with which the gremlin takes over. At lunch I had six small sausages with a mixture of cabbage and leek in stock. After an hour I felt dozy and an hour later was ravenous. Crazy.
Will set aside time today to plan whilst OH is at gym. Will keep busy.
I know……we are on a marathon and not a sprint. Lol
Rocy65 – how kind. I don’t think I have ever inspired anyone. Lol
Anyway, onwards and DOWNwards. Have a great day everyone all over the world.
Sunshine Coast Aus Day 5: here we are again. I was fasting till dinner then everything went to hell in a hand Basket! I started off well with a clear vegetable and pork hock soup. 3 bowls later I got stuck into the nuts. So have to fast tomorrow to limit the damage. I have been going so well. Could kick myself from here to Bourke and back againπ‘π±π© Talk about bourgeois suffering. Tomorrow is a new day. I feel for you, Patti67. You’re sounding so active Rocy65 and congrats on the decreased joint pain. You’re doing great guns with your fasting HollyLJ. Keep up the good work.
Skinny 55, I only use the bone broth once a day, either to replace lunch or dinner and stick to tea, coffee and water for the rest of the time. But it’s ok to use it as you have outlined staying under your 500 cals. Dr Jason Fung suggests using it once a day in his plan in The Obesity Code.
Night all. Talk tomorrow. A little bit of reading and then sleep.
Dorset UK Day 5
NFD
Down a pound from yesterday. As we have another day before this bonus challenge finishes, I have adjusted my week so my last fast is on Monday. I was going to fast today but Ive had a sressful morning and not in the right place!
My aim for July chalLenge was to lose 5.5lbs and get down to 10.5 but by the end of July I had managed 3.5lbs and was down to 10.7.
Then I went on holiday and managed to catch up with the 2 week bonus challenge.
My aim is now to reach that 10.5 mark where I wanted to be at the end of July.
Today I am 10.6 and a half, so 1.5lbs to lose in this last week, so I will have to be very strict!
If I touch the 10.5 mark on the scales I will be happy even if it is only temporary and rises a bit again. I seem to have to yo yo around a mark before it really sticks!
Today I am going to enjoy the sunshine, and count the cals so I stay low!
Good luck today everyone, with what you are planning to do!
Just today, Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun and Monday to go, then a breather before next challenge…we can do this!!
Surrey UK Day 5…..Thanks for the information on bone broth, Chipmunk13, Coda, B2tF. I will certainly make use of it.
Another scorcher today, been out with the dogs early, to get away from the heat! Going out for dinner tonight, it will be interesting to see what sort of resolve I have. Enjoy the day!
Hello ,
I returned to the fasting after two weeks with drugs and the gain of 1 kg plus the backwardness of what was planned.
I have not eaten more than my TDE think the anti inflammatories should retain fluids.
The Olympics all right for now! lack much support for sports in Brazil.
Criticism of the behavior of the fans …. every country has its way of behaving.
A hug to everyone!
Gozo, Malta
ETJ and back2thefuture I admire you doing the b2b fasts on Sunday and Monday. I’m supposed tto fastMonday but I can fast from Sunday lunch and fast for one and a half days to see better results on 23 August. I too don’t want to let my 5lb buddies down. So I’m hoping to lose the one pound needed to reach the 5 lb target.
This morning I took my thirteen year old son and his friend for breakfast at McDonald’s and I enjoyed a breakfast there but omitted the hash brown and just had one cappuccino grande. I didn’t eat for lunch s at the McDonald’s was a brunch really. My son and his friend enjoyed it so much that a repeat is in order and might take them there next week. It will have to be Wednesday when my other daughter is off duty so I have to fast another day or I’ll fast from Sunday lunch to Tuesday lunch nfd have two whole days that way.
Youngest grandson will be three weeks tomorrow and he is doing fine. My eldest daughter, his mother, spent eight and a half years in London. She did not her exam there after becoming an architect and civil engineer in Malta and became n architect of uk too. She worked there as an architect and her husband worked as a financial analyst. They have come to Malta one year and half years ago and they settled in the island of Malta. I was trilled that they made that decision although I enjoyed going to London for visits but I understand those who wish ther children to stay close by because I’ve been there. My other daughters have settled in Gozo although they too travel for conferences sometimes and my youngest stayed working in London for about five months. Such is life.
I hope to stay within my TDEE today.
Have a great Wednesday those of you on a fast or no fast day today.
Ontario Day 5
I haven’t had much time, getting ready for Portugal. This week, before the holiday, I am fasting each day and having one meal in the early evening. This past weekend I over ate and enjoyed many cheats. Have lost the few pounds I gained over that splurge and down one from that. I will try hard to eat whole foods only when on vacation, but will not be strict in following LCHF and will not be fasting – until I return in September. Then I will eat once per day as I am this week, quite enjoyable and very easy to not think about lunch for work.
I buy beef, pork, chicken, duck bones (grass fed) – whatever available at local butchers, plus always a trotter or chicken feet for extra gelatinous broth. I then bake the bones in the oven for about 45 minutes and then make a big stock pot full (using about 7 pounds of browned bones) by adding just enough water to cover the bones, adding apple cider vinegar to draw out the collagen etc from the bones, bring to a boil, (keep skimming during this part) and then a low simmer for up to 48 hours. 8 hours before broth is done, I add whatever vegetables rough chopped, onions, fresh spices, garlic and when finished strain the whole thing (time consuming) into mason jars, cool down, keep one in fridge at all times, and the rest to the freezer. Some of the broths have turned out like jello, so nice and full of collagen and gelatin. I use the broth for soups, sauces, stews, and a nice heated up mug full to sip on. It is a big hobby of mine.
Have been walking each morning 3 KM and a lot more throughout the day and evening.
Sorry for the intermittent posts, will post regularly again after Sept 6th when I will be returning to work.
Not sure what group this will be then, but I will just click on my bookmark and hopefully find you all here still!
Enjoy last few weeks of August.
Day 5: Pacific NW USA, NFD, whew! Poached eggs, 1/4 avacado and BP coffee never tasted so good after my complete 60 hour liquid fast! And the scales are very reinforcing today – if I’m careful I will definitely make the 5 lb team goal by Tues!
Every fast food place I passed and every food commercial that came on yesterday made my mouth water but I was able to acknowledge how my reflexes were reacting, be mindful, stay in control and resort to tea and water. I think that’s one of the best things I’ve been able to learn, that I don’t have to eat every time food presents itself either in physical or mental form. That will be a new goal for me – that I can maintain and build on the mental strength I feel like I’m gaining from 5:2! Thank you Dr. Mosley and all you global friends!
I almost think today will be harder than the last 2 days because I need to be very careful and count calories and not let myself over eat and over compensate after the fasting. We are going to dinner with out of town friends tonight but I know I can eat fish and veg and stay below 1200 for the day.
I had the energy to get errands and appointments done yesterday but I did not do my HIT or strength exercises. Now today, after eating I’m dressed and ready to HIT!
Brighton and Rocy – It’s so good to hear your concrete evidence with your improved health that the benefits we gain from 5:2 go far beyond what the scales say!
Kay – you will lose those 1.5 lbs or come close because you are trying, and the same for you too Rocy, go for the liquid fast!
Skinny – welcome! It will be fun to cheer you on to fitting in your beautiful, smaller wedding dress! Ditto what Fuvvie said about her bone broth advise on a FD. I also just drink 8 oz per FD but drinking more would be OK if it helps you maintain your fast.
Anaide – glad you are back and on the mend. The Olympics have been beautiful.
Anna – we will make it to the 5 lbs!!
Ciren and Northern – we’re cheering you on during your last 12 hours of your fast!
LS – your recipe sounds delish, have a great vacation and we’ll “see you” in Sept, we’ll be here somewhere!
Day 5 – USA – NFD
I missed posting for two days, sorry! I’ve just been busy at work and keep forgetting when I get home. I had a good FD yesterday and ran 4 miles this morning before I ate. I don’t think I could do that without eating my 500 calories the night before. But who knows, maybe I’ll try sometime. We had a retirement party at work today and I had a big piece of cake. Boy, was it good! I hope it doesn’t put me over. I’ll have to watch it tonight. Another FD tomorrow.
Great job, everyone!
Day 5, QuΓ©bec
Today is just a regular NFD.
Tomorrow will be fasting ( probably on liquids only, I’ll have to see how I feel tomorrow morning ) with my Italian friend HollyLJ. I will certainly integrate bone broth in that fast. I already enjoy fresh organic miso broth ( a kind of a brown paste that must be kept in the fridge that I dissolve in water ).
Keeping track of everything I eat helps a lot. I use the app ” lose it ” . There is a free version . I used it for a certain period but I prefer the complete one that cost me about 25 can $. It is really complete and user friendly. It reminds you when you forget to write down your things and gives you different awards when you did well for a certain period of time. I particularly like the graphs. Almost forgot, it also analyses your eating habits ang gives you advises. For example ” the app noticed that when you eat this or that for lunch you do not go over your daily budget “. Many other usefull trends that you can see there. No, I’m not trying to sell it, jus saying how helpfull it is for an analytic person like I am.
Now, I will stop analysing and will gomin tle pool. Will be so nice in this hot temperature.
Bonne journΓ©e x
Sunshine Coast Aus Day 4: after all my stressing last night, scales say104.5kgs. So that is a relief. Will be fasting fluids only for 36 hours which will take me to mid morning Friday. So with both my 6 lb buddies and QuΓ©bΓ©coise.
Pity you can’t swing by Australia, Coda. Would love to meet up with youπ
I bet your chook mansion is looking great ETJ. Nothing like a family gathering to make one pull out all the stops. I’m supposed to have a flute lesson today but want to take advantage of not having MIL at home to get on the mower. I can knock off a lot in 5 hours. The place is looking so overgrown. Blue top everywhere. Some people call it Billygoat weed.
Well done B2tF on your 60 hour fast. The second day certainly seems to go better than the first. The eating on NFDs is the hardest part for me.
I’ve taken a screen shot of your recipe, LS and will give it a go. It sounds wonderful.
Time to get up and set the “breakfast and get ready for respite” train rolling. This entails cooking MIL breakfast, make her cup of tea which she loves, assist/supervise shower, get clothes sorted and leave her to dress herself. Then the bus picks her up at around 9 o’clock and brings her home somewhere between 2:30 and 3pm. This happens Wednesday and Thursday. Day respite is an absolute blessing. Saves one from topping oneselfπ Still, if I hadn’t taken on the carer role, I would probably still be working, a slave to the dollar. And marching to the beat of an increasingly depersonalised workplace with more demands. Give me this life any day.
Day 5 Minnesota, USA FD
Ciren2, you are probably in bed now, but thanks for checking on me. It’s about 6 pm my time, suppertime, and I was beginning to waiver a bit. Reading your encouraging posts has helped me resolve to get through until tomorrow morning!
Thanks to you, also, B2tF, for the cheering. I will now finish reading the rest of the posts.
Anna6, it is so wonderful to be able to share time with grandchildren, isn’t it? My own grandparents meant so very much to me and they taught me so much. I’d like my own grandchildren to remember me always in the same way.
BE strong and stay the course, everybody. You can do it!
Australia – Day 4
Fuvvie – Oh gosh, I hadn’t even thought of the lawn mowing! You are right. It probably needs a going over.
Backtothefuture – Your on for Sun/Mon. I will need it by then! I am fasting today, but can’t for the next 2 days.
Today is a very big day. Yesterday we did as much as we could and today we need to do more. I am exhausted TBH. My son has horse riding lessons now, I may have to drive to Canberra, I need to do the chook house surrounds, finish the porch out the front, help hubby plant, this afternoon the kids have art lessons, hubby has a doctors appointment, I need to get groceries, pick up a solar pump for the fountain as it hadn’t arrived yesterday, I will need to do a second coat of the surrounds and we need to set up the fountain. Tonight I will need to put up all his decorations. Oh and I need to mow π lol.
Anyway, I need to be getting going. Have a good day all!
ETJ – I’m sorry I compared you to Martha Stewart – it wasn’t fair because you’ve got her beaten by a mile! She couldn’t catch you if she used her whole corporation and every assistant she has!! (Ha!) I for one will be glad when it’s finally time for your family get-together, I’m exhausted just reading about your to-do list. No one else suggest anything else for her to do!! Are you sure you’ll need a Sun/Mon fast??
Australia Day 4 Supposed to be a FD but my brother is trying to change my mind and I am resisting! I may compromise by having light seafood dish or vege soup for dinner but I really want to do 36 hours, liquids only. Have only had black tea so far and it is already lunchtime so am going to try and stay strong! I did stay within my TDEE yesterday and lost that 600 gms I had put on since last with my brother so happy about that. Good luck with the chores ETJ!
Italy Day4 – FD
Having a cup of tea outside in the garden while i water my plants. I’m taking my little one swimming so that should keep my mind off eating for a while! We can do this Quebecoise and Rocy65 and anyone else fasting today.
Hannahwatto – don’t give in to your brother, stay strong and determined. It will probably do him good to see your example and help him in his fight to get clean. Good luck to you both xx
Hope yesterdays fasters Made it and get the results they were looking for.
Morning Coda, morning all!
Back from hols, unpacked and clutching a cup of black tea – my first FD for, er, nearly two months.
Haven’t had a chance to read about the thrills and spills on the forum yet, but I hope it’s been a great summer for everyone. I’ll be fasting Mondays and Thursdays with the occasional Saturday if it fits in. Will there be a Phase 3 to the challenge? Can I join??
Good luck to everyone else fasting today. One day at a time!
Gozo, Malta
And exhale welcome.
ETJ have a good time in your activities. B2tf thanks for your vote of confidence.
Yesterday stayed within my TDEE. I ate only fruits in the evening i.e. one banana, one apple and two peaches plus plenty of water. Today is a nfd for me and I had coffee with semi skimmed milk pls one light yogurt 80 calories. I’m having beef stir fry with rice for lunch. In the evening I’m going out with my widowed sister in law for dinner. I hope to stay within my TDEE and refrain from pizza this evening.
Then tomorrow is a fast day for us. I already have planned what to cook. Chicken stir fry with veg for lunch and baked fish with salad for dinner.
I’m babysitting my six month grandson this morning and woke up at 5.30 this morning to babysit my new born grandson for about two hours before going to attend mass at a nearby cemetery chapel. Then my other daughter arrived with her son to go to work.
Keep strong everyone. Happy Thursday.
ETJ: I wasn’t suggesting you should mow. Please don’t. I did my mowing of 7 acres in my 5 hours. Feeling really relieved to have it behind me. I haven’t done the fiddly bits under trees. If the mower won’t go there, it doesn’t get done till oh gets home and uses the brush cutter. Don’t know when that will be. My daughter was married from home 5 years ago. The block was so overgrown with weeds, particularly silver desmodium, that we had to buy a tractor with a slasher to get it under control. The kids came home every weekend for about a month to help tart the place up. I had to get a new stove and got my first ever dishwasher. I was working full time in those days or couldn’t have afforded it. My son-in-law put in the ceiling in the living areas. He finished at 11:45pm the night before the wedding. It was a marathon but worth it on the day. I don’t envy you your long to do list. You are one very busy mother/wife.
Extra post – thanks Holly! Happy to report I have stuck to my liquids only. Just had miso soup for dinner after copious cups of black tea and coffee today. Have been to the gym and had a 45 min walk this morning so a good exercise day as well. Feeling so positive π I wish the same good feelings to everyone else π
UK day4 yesterday was going to be a fast, but as the weather was so nice as the forecast is grim for the next few days we decided on an impromptu BBQ, so not a FD but not too bad. So fasting today instead. It’s great getting a glimpse into others lives on here, I take my hat off to the Australians – you wear me out just reading what you do !
Coda- I’m not too far away from London I may be able to be there , do you have the exact dates ?
DebbieQ- I know exactly where you’re at , I was there for a few weeks, but this week so much better, who knows why hormones, the weather,if anyone does know please share .Welcome back And..exhale there’s a new challenge starting September I think ?
Day 4 Cornwall UK. Sadly I’m too far away to meet up coda, would have been great!
Well I never would have believed it 21 hrs gone, so halfway through my first ever water fast!! I feel fine even with MIL here for lunch, she and OH decided on Cornish Pasties! The smell delicious, but I sat with mug of bone broth and have got through it! Such will-power – my 6lb buddies keeping me going. And I have done HIT on my static bike plus an hours pilates and strength exercises!
Another family gathering tomorrow and were all taking food to share for a giant picnic! I think there will be 18 of us, really looking for to it.
Then out for an evening meal!
Saturday will be a FD OR VLCD. Then 36 WFD Monday!!
ETJ what a busy bee you are!! Hope you have enough energy left to enjoy the festivities!!
Fuvvie and HollyLJ we can do this!!
Please please please, help keep each other on track at the end of this phase of our weight loss, health and fitness challenge!! I really couldn’t have got this far without you all!!
Stay strong for the last fews days everyone!
Dorset UK Day 4
NFD
Coda…sadly Im too far away, but hopefully others will be able to catch up with you.
Yesterday I was supposed to have had a calorie counted day to keep me under TDEE, but that didnt happen!
Today I didnt eat breakfast until after 11 but I was hungry and ate more than I should have, so now Im trying to hold off until teatime before eating again and then I will start my 36 hour fluid fast, lasting til Sat morning.
Its very muggy here in Dorset, I wish it would rain to clear the air and then get nice again π
Have a good day all.
Kay
Day 4 Los Angeles. Rocy65, I’m so impressed that you withstood the Cornish Pasties! Willpower indeed! And ETJ, your schedule is making me dizzy from here!
Today is a FD. Might try, yet again, to make it 36 hours liquids-only. Do any of you who do them hind it very hard to stay within your TDEE on the day(s) following a liquid-only FD? I think I’m worried that it might turn out to be counter-productive for me in the longer term …
Day 4 USA (Utah to San Diego)
FD today while traveling. It’s always interesting to do that, but I was told we are going out to dinner Friday night so not to do a FD then.
Got on the scale at the gym yesterday and was very happy to see down 4 lbs. from the last time I weighed in there on Saturday! Those 36 hour liquid only fasts seem to really make a difference. Yeah! So what did I do? Had a double cheeseburger and fries from McDonald’s for supper. What a sinful treat, but still was under TDEE for the day.
Coda – are there any plans for a new challenge? I love this little group we have here. I don’t often comment on other’s progress, but I sure do enjoy reading all your escapades and successes, even your failures. Everyone is so encouraging! Since I do Facebook so often, I find I miss being able to put a “like” or some reaction under someone’s post. That would be a good addition to this site!
Surrey UK Day 4 Late posting today, trying to get some of the gardening done in anticipation of the rain tomorrow….please let it rain!
Coda, Hi….I am still in the West Midlands, actually in Stourbridge, until the first weekend of September when I will have to go back to Surrey. I do not have a car here though, but wouldn’t it be nice to meet up! On Friday 26th I am going in to London to see Macbeth with son in law and rest of family, and on Saturday we MAY go over to Church Stretton for an annual high tea at the church for a charity which was started by my son in law’s father. That is not confirmed yet. Will you have transport? I don’t know much about the distances here, but I know Stourbridge falls under the Dudley Council. even if we talk on the phone, it would be nice.
Went out with friends to a lovely pub for dinner last night, just being mindful, so I don’t know what will happen when I get on the scale on Saturday….
Day 4 Minnesota, USA NFD
Ending my 3rd 40 hour liquid fast in about a half an hour at 11:00 am. How did you do, Ciren2? I only drink coffee, tea, and water (so zero calories unless counting 12 for coffee) and I’m thinking that if I do a fourth one, and any others I do from now on, I will try using home made bone broth in the evenings, as other people do. I hope it will make it easier. I awoke last night and stayed awake for 3 hours, then finally back to sleep. I was so very hungry! I don’t find water fasts as easy as some others, for sure, but they are doable, and I’m glad to know that I can do them. I also know myself well enough to know that if I start feeling this WOL is too restrictive or I start feeling too deprived, I won’t stick with it. So, I will continue to experiment to find what works best for me. As we all should.
I am wondering if when we experience more hunger than usual on FDs if it’s because our bodies are trying to make us eat to maintain a “set point”. It does seem like hungry times are followed by more weight loss, for me. Maybe staying strong and getting through those times without eating more helps us to lower our set points? I’d like to think so. It’s what I tell myself when I’m really struggling!
Taking granddaughter to the movies today, and I’m trying to visualize myself at the theatre NOT overdoing on the buttered popcorn. I must limit it. I must!
Good luck to all of you fasters, and stay under TDEE easily, for the rest of you!
