  • UK day 19 wow you USA/Ireland sisters are impressive managing to stay on track at such emotional times.its made me realise I’m just too keen to relax my good intentions for any old excuse- when it’s hot ,when I bump into a friend ….. Which would be fine if I was in maintenance mode but I want to lose weight so I need to try and get a bit more serious about it so going for an extra FD today to try to reverse some of last weeks over indulgence. Dollybird – I love Pilates ,kissing your toes sounds challenging – surely it’s not with straight legs ?
Thanks to whoever mentioned meditation -must try get back into that and I feel for you B2TF can’t be easy, hang on in there

    Onwards …..

    Day 19 …UK…Yorkshire

    NFD today

Scales up a bit, strange after a FD maybe holding on to fluids as its very hot here for the UK!

Lovely reading all your posts, the ups, downs and the very good.

    Northern Spain day 19.
    Good morning everyone
Just reading up on the posts.
DebbieQ and Sweetie its always awful when visiting family return to Ireland, part of you wants to go with them. As you rightly said, it never gets easier despite the time away. It must be a real luxury to have family nearby even if it’s just to pop in and have a cup of tea or a moan. We take so much for granted in our lives, which reminds me – I must stop biting my husband twice every time he asks for chocolate cake!!!! ( only joking, Coda!!).
But well done girls, for seeing the fasting through and sticking to the diet.

To be honest, I have found that exercise has helped a lot this time round with the fasting in general. Why does MOther Nature bestow either happy hormones when we are pregnant or endorphins when we work out?? You’d think that being a mother/woman she’d be a bit kinder to her type.
BrightonBelle – pilates have made me very bendy and I have a brilliant teacher who pushes me. When I said I could almost kiss my toes,I would use the word kiss loosely, maybe hug or cuddle might be more truthful, but not as impressive, but we should never let the truth interfere with an anecdote!!! Sorry for misleading you. I’m doing my best in pilates, one small step isone ginormous leap….

Anyway, NF day today. It’s already incredibly hot so light snacks and lots of non alcoholic water (again!!).
Good luck to everyone wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.
    Cheers

    NLD day 19

Been thinking about this for some time now……
Not quitting 5:2 but will not be posting anymore. There’s some issues I need to take care of first and I don’t know how long that will take. Long story…so Coda – please take me off the list.

Thanks for the support, a laugh, a cry, your stories, ups and downs- the past months!

Wish you all many pounds lost and enjoy the successes I’m sure you will achieve!!
    Tot kijk

    Gozo, Malta

I have to go to my pregnant daughter who lives in Malta to sleep there and to take her to an app to hospital tomorrow as her husband is on a working trip abroad.

Made salad for lunch and will eat muesli with milk this evening. Tomorrow is a fast day for all of us.

I didn’t read the posts today as I have little time but I read the last one of Dutch. So sorry to see you go Dutch. I hope you’ll come back soon, we ll miss you! Take care.

    have a wonderful day everyone.

Oh Dutch I am so sorry to hear that. Is it me with my big stick? Really I can offer dispensation if you don’t want to post everyday if that will help? Hope everything is ok?

    Italy Day 19 – FD
    Weight 76.9 kg

I’ve lost so happy. I feel in the swing of things now, done a few experiments and learned what doesn’t work for me! It should get easier from now on.

    The Netherlands – Day 19 (non-fast day)

Checking in. Hot day today in The Netherlands. Busy day at work.

US, Day 19, NFD. Fast Day went well yesterday. Back into 119-ville. NFD today. Did I mention hubby is coming home tomorrow? And son #1 turns 24. How did THAT happen?

    Day 19– Colorado, USA

Good day yesterday. Went a little over Fast Day 500, but still very low cals.
Gotta run! Literally, heading out door to run with my dog then ready for long day of work.

Catch up with you wonderful people later!
    Have a great day, all!

Dutch, good luck! Hope to see you back here!

    Surrey UK Day 19

So so hot here. Not very pleasant, I have to say. My two doggies don’t even want to go outside! Reminds me of Africa, and a big part of the reason for leaving there. At least I hope it won’t last too long! Made some delicious mushroom soup as well as some bean soup, so well stocked for fast days coming up.

    Day 19- NH, USA

Successful FD yesterday, kept under 500 calories.

Drinking LOTS of extra water and didn’t eat breakfast yet, as I’m going to wait until late AM and then have some fresh strawberries and then my protein shake for lunch; its a NFD today. Feeling incredibly under the weather but I’m sure that is due to the excessive humidity right now; I never did handle heat all that well. Working on my anxiety and I’m going to meditate when I get home tonight.

Hope everyone has a great day today!!

    Day 19 USA (Illinois)

NFD for me. Probably overate some yesterday, but I also was very busy with meetings, exercise, and rehearsal. I direct our local Choral Society – big concert in the park band shell on August 7, so rehearsals down to the wire. I enjoy singing and directing. Those always energize me and yet use up calories.

Will miss you, Dutch – hope all is going to be okay. Keep cool, northern hemisphere! Going to be hot in Illinois the next few days especially.

US SE Day 19 NFD. Coda, yes that was me who volunteered before and I would be happy to carry the mantle for phase 3 unless JFitzy would prefer to do it. Dutch… so sorry that you can’t continue right now. I hope everything works out for you and you will come back and check in with us and let us know how you’re doing. Have a good day all.

USA, Texas, Day 19. Yesterday’s fast was good. Need to be very careful during NF days.
My dog was asking for the bath yesterday after the walk for the first time. He went to “his” shower and refuse to go out without being washed. It was a little bit unusual, because he does not like shower. I guess the heat pushed him make a different choice this time.
    Enjoy your day today!
    🙂

    Australia, end of day19, NFD,
I think I missed a day. Somehow I’ve ended up on page 25 which seems a leap. Been travelling for the last 2 days and just home. Will catch up on some reading at the end of the week.
    Onwards and downwards,
    Merry

    Day 19, Québec

    NFD

Fd yesterday paid out. I just saw on the scale the number I was aiming at for years ! Can’t tell you how happy I am. When my 130 gets steady I will set another goal.

    I love 5:2

Wishing you all a very nice day x

    Quebecoise, how exciting!!!

Dutch, do take care and come back soon!

    Day19: Pacific NW (traveling), FD

Today’s FD might not be the challenge I thought it was going to be
around my young grandsons after all as I’m laid up in bed with an attack of allergies or a cold or something. I prefer to stay active on a FD and I haven’t been sick since I started 5:2 the end of April so this is another new twist added to all that I’m already facing being away from home. At least my daughter’s house feels like a second home and I had already bought store brand bone broth and miso soup packets.

Dutch – I hope whatever you are facing passes successfully. You’ve been a support to me and others on this forum and I hope we’ve been the same for you. Hope to hear from you again!

ETJ – if I ever get to Oz I would prefer a farm stay! That’s what we did throughout Ireland when we traveled there when the kids were younger,

BrightonBelle – thanks for the support! My biggest challenge with 5:2 is managing my goals in social events and situations.

Coldpizza – animals are smart, your dog knew what he needed! People should tune into the cues animals give us!

Que – so happy for your progress!

K-lo – have a great reunion day with your hubby tomorrow! (I won’t be home to my hubby for two and a half more weeks.)

    Scotland Day 19 NFD

Ate well over my TDEE today. Was such a rare and lovely day in the sun I just went mad with it. Oh well tomorrow will be a FD as will Friday so things will even out.

    Ontario Day 19
    My elder son’s birthday!
    Non Fast Day
Going to have birthday dinner at their home, eating nice and light and doing a 16: 8 today
Good fast day yesterday, just water all day then grilled chicken with salad for dinner
Weighed this morning and lost what I gained all weekend on my eat fest… yeah!
I thought I would add some chia seeds to my avocado tomato spinach salad but didn’t use a spoon and way too many came tumbling out. Scooped as much back out as I could but salad is still smothered. Still tastes good.

    19th day of the challenge.

Weight loss in 5: 2 equals a samba of Brazil …

“It’s slow, it’s slow, is slowly slowly. It’s slow, it’s slow, is slowly slowly”.

    Slow and always!

Day 19 Cotswolds UK: Non fast day. Sooo HOT phew!
Ate lunch at a nearby restaurant. A Posties’ Lunch. We meet up with old colleagues from our former office in Berkshire a couple of times a year to catch up on old times. I ate fish chips peas and lovely ice cream. Yum. Today there were six of us, all but two retired from the fray.

    Day 18 & 19 – US – NFD

Forgot to post again yesterday. Had a good FD. I was hungry, but kept busy and tried not to think about it. Had a kick off meeting for my half marathon training group that starts this week. Got my schedule and have been trying to fit running days and fasting days on my calendar for the next few months. I’m so worried that I won’t be able to manage both. But I’m going to try and see how it goes. I really want to lose some more weight, but also don’t want my runs to be awful.

It’s funny to me to hear everyone complain about the heat. It’s always hot here in Florida, so I don’t even think about it!

Day 19 Los Angeles. Completed FD yesterday without a hitch, though I was hungry much of the day. Today is a NFD but I will keep cals low, hoping to give my stubborn plateau a kick.

Dutch, I hope your challenges are resolved quickly and without pain. I will miss you here.

    Austin Tx Day 19

1st full day at lake and im doing great! Fresh Lake air is my food! Fasted until 2pm and have only eaten small n healthy! No hunger!

Iv almost got my walking goal in and its still early! Woohoo!

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 20: back to 107.2kgs after 36 hour fluids only. Won’t break my fast till after my 11 o’clock chat with the psychologist. Mother in law off to day respite. Hope it gives her a lift. Will do a 30 minute walk after the bus picks her up.

Australia Day 20 NFD – Dutch we will miss you, hope all is ok. An aide, love the slow samba! Congratulations to all on the losses – very exciting!

    Day 19 Sussex, U.K.
NFDay for me, hot hot, hot.
Congratulations on all your losses. X

    Day 19 Uk.
What a hot day! Travelled from Sussex to Cornwall 34° all the way to Taunton then broke the journey until early evening with family, it’s good to be home!!
tomorrow I will fast and really looking forward to it, I will weigh in the morning but just hope Ive not done too much damage on our week away!
Reading all your posts I feel tbat I have not been able to commit fuly to this second challenge, life/ family issues have got in the way. So as from now I will be fully committed for the last 10 days, spured on by all your encouraging, motivating posts.

Dutch very best of luck, hope you get things sorted and will be back soon.

    Dorset UK Day 19
    NFD

    Quick check in

Haven’t counted calories today but stayed mindful.

Too hot to do HIIT with Gilligan Michael’s.

Half a pound up from last Fridays weigh in but still couple of days to go ;-

    Catch you all tomorrow 🙂

    Thank you 😀

    Day 19 Minnesota, USA
FD today, but over again so unsuccessful. OH is on vacation again this week, and I am out of sync with my usual routine. I *will* have a FD tomorrow. At least today is a low calorie and, especially, a very low carb day. That will help for tomorrow.
ETJ, I wish you would just start a blog about your life “Down Under”, on your land (farm? ranch? station?), and tell us all about your adventures with family and pets. I know most of us on this forum would read it daily!
DebbieQ I hope you are feeling a little better since your sister left. Loneliness hits hard when the house becomes quiet.
Slimn, enjoy your “greenery”. I don’t do well in dusty, dry or barren places. I like my “greenery”.
K-Lo, enjoy your reunion with Hubby! ❤️ And, should you be doing planks if you have costochondritis? maybe just do reps of 30 seconds so as not to strain?
Fuvvie, congrats on a good fast! I will get there tomorrow.
Quebecoise, congrats! Theo I hope you soon feel better. Cizzy2, take care of that back, don’t you have lifts available? Or was it just quicker to do it without? That’s ruined many nurse’s back, I’m sure you know. But take it easy, if you can. Epsom salt bath?
B2tF, what a way to solve the FD dilemma with grandsons! You do go at the fasts and the activities so diligently, maybe your body needs a respite! I hope you feel better soon.
LS have a fun day! Wish I could mention everyone. I will eventually!
Heat warnings are out for Wed, Thurs, Fri. with heat indexes expected around 115 degrees or more Fahrenheit. Not really use to that up here in the North. Record is 117, so we will see if we break that on Thursday. Good luck everyone on your FD, and NFD, and stay cool!

Dutch, take care of yourself. Only the best thoughts and wishes from me for you! Perhaps, you could post once in awhile to let us know how you are? We would all like that. Good luck to you.

NorthernDawn, planking isn’t a problem because my arms are at 90 degree angle. Odd i know

    Croatia, Day 20, FD
    Weight: 81.5 Kg

    US Day 19- NFD

Pretty good day today. Fast day tomorrow and looking forward to it.

Dutch- I wish you luck with whatever you are going through. Stay strong and know all of us are here even if you aren’t posting everyday!

UK day 20. Seems churlish to complain about the heat when we always complain about a poor summer here – but last night was horrible! SO looking forward to heading north again today. Love Scotland for so many reasons…and that includes the weather!

Thank you all so much for those lovely kind words!

But I’m okay! Had a good fast day yesterday too, so I’m happy about that and will keep going.

I just need some time off 😊

Thanks for the offer Coda but right now taking me off the list is best. Who knows what challenge phase I’ll be re-joining?!

    Take care ! XOXO

    Bye, Dutch!!

End of day 19: Accomplished a “regulation” FD with a little over 500 cal dinner. No exercise today due to congestion and overall malaise. Tonight grand boys asked me to watch a video wth them, “Pixels”. They had much of it memorized and took great joy in my familiarity with the arcade games that come back from outer space to invade earth (no spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it).

Thanks for the reassurance that maybe it’s OK for me to take it easy once in a while, NorthernDawn. I’ve been so happy that 5:2 was helping me regain a glimpse of my former self and can’t believe I have to deal with this on vacation and when I’ve been doing so well!

Tomorrow is due to be a NFD. I think I can manage to keep tomorrow’s cals low with a roll-it-yourself salad roll extravaganza for dinner. I did miss my BPC today so may indulge in an early AM bit of butter and MCT oil with my coffee!

    Day 20 – UK Nottingham

Just checking in today, not sure how I’ll be started to be unwell in the night and still really not too great now.

    Back to bed.

    Good luck all

    Australia, day 20, NFD

UK day 20 FD today as unfortunately didn’t happen yesterday .

Sorry to see Dutch go, but good to hear all is well

    Northern Spain day 20
    Good morning.
Fast day today and feeling slightly hungry.
Good luck Dutch in the future and take care.
Will have roast stuffed aubergine for lunch and watermelon and that’s all.
It’s still very hot here, but our friend from Florida says she’s used to it so I must think of her and not complain.
    Water is my best friend!!
But I know I’d kill for an ice cold beer at some point today.
Have a great day everyone and if you’re fasting like me, be strong
    Cheers

    Day 20.. UK….Yorkshire

A low calorie day today..800 ish

With the hot weather and magnums eaten 300 cal, some chocolate…had a bad few days. Must get back on track. I really like the cooler weather I am more in control.

Wish we had AC like the rest of the world…it would be more comfortable…in the 20 s for sleeping last night horrible and sweaty not very nice.

    Good luck Dutch.

Scotland Day 20 FD Scales showing the aftermath of my day of indulgence. Back on the wagon today with firm resolve. Bye Dutch take care of yourself x

The Netherlands – Day 20 (fast day)

A fast day for me today. I took two water bottles to work this morning because it’s so hot today. One is already empty.

    Day 20, India, FD

Read last few pages of the thread after many days.. mind occupied with looking for alternative treatment for dad’s cancer.. he is getting very weak from chemo.. My FD on Monday was okay… went up to 600 but I give myself that wriggle room sometimes.. NFDs are going great.. stayed well within my TDEE.. and the scale also went lowerrrr so I am happy :)..

I make myself a pot of khichdi (warm dish made with rice, lentils and ghee) around 11-12 on fast days, measuring around 300 calories. So when I feel hungry, I just have a bowl of it to. It keeps me satisfied that I have 200 calories remaining after I finish off this khichdi.

Sorry to see Dutch go.. take care girl!
Congrats on everyone losing, and to everyone just hanging in there – that’s the toughest part which does bring great results!!

Surrey UK Day 20 Took major strain in yesterday’s heat…I know many people get depressed in grey cold days but I have to say, I feel like that on extremely hot sunny days! My family all think I have a thermostat problem, but I have all my life struggled with really hot weather. Just treading water at the moment, hoping to have a fast day as normal tomorrow. This is a time to be careful and not step back into old habits. I do feel there has been a fundamental shift in approaching food and eating, and this is absolutely due to the 5:2 approach. A bit more enthusiasm on my part won’t go amiss!

    Day 20– Colorado, USA

Stepped on scale. Down one pound. 🙂
Seems the closer I’m getting to my final goal, the slower the progress (but still it’s progress!!)

SlimnHealthy– I really like your suggestion to use meditation to help balance & calm our days.
It’s been years, but I think I’ll try starting my Fast Days with Sun Salutations as a moving meditation. It’d be nice to build it up to a daily habit. Thanks for the idea!
