Day 2……Florida……NFD
Lew…… Happy Birthday!
After ready all the posts, Strawberries and cream’s post made me want to be a bit insiteful this morning. So here it goes……
People from all over have been dieting to lose weight for centuries. I suppose this is why the diet industry is so successful. Each year, they put out a new round of diets guaranteed to work in attempt to not only sell the product but also try and help people achieve there dreams of lighter bodies.
However, the problem doesn’t lie totally in the hands of the diet industry but in our hands as well. Many of us at one point another fall off the wagon, give up because it’s to hard, unsubstantable and heart breaking. We are restricted and we miss the things we love.
Now as each of us found this WOL, here’s why it works so well, why it’s not hard and why we are all here.
5:2 is adjustable, each of us has tailored it to fit our lives styles. I myself 16:8 and 4:3 together, some do 5:2 only, some 5:2 with 23:1. We all find what works!
Now on to the reason I’m rambling…..
we all try our hardest to stay on the wagon, but as life would have it, we fall off! I’ve fallen hard, and layed in the dirt a few times. Bloody hands and skinned knees, with support from this thread, I gotten back up and wobbled back to the wagon. I even dragged a few people back with me. Now, here’s the kicker……
that wagon stopped and waited for me to get up and try again. The wagon is this WOL, we can fall down, have a bad day and more and as long as we keep trying we in the end become successful. This WOL isn’t about restricting our selves for days and months at a time but for only one day. One day, tomorrow is a new day a restart so to speak.
That my friends is why 5:2 WOL is successful for everyone.
Oh…. I definitely must add this to that story as well. This group is probably one of the most important parts of my way of life. I could not have done what I’ve done, learned what I have without everyone’s love and support!
NFD for me today. Not sure how it will play out. I gave up soda and snacks for Lent and I’m craving a soda big time right now and it’s only 6:30am! But isn’t that what Lent is about? Sacrificing the things we love in attempt to experience what Jesus went through? Well…. so to speak?
Plus on a positive note….. not drinking may help with the weight loss?
Okay, well my coffee cup is empty. So, on to work I go! Hi ho hi ho!
Peace be with you!
Day 1 – NSW – Aust – NFD
Day 2 – FD
Things are very stressful at the moment as i embark on a new job and leave the safety of a place where i am the expert, i am respected, i am needed and where i am comfortable. So, i am fearful of the weeks ahead but I haven’t waivered off this path, i haven’t done as well as i liked but I’ve seen my changes and proud of my achievements so far. I hope that i continue and that i improve in the areas that are still a challenge, so that one day in my future i can say i am happy with the way i look and comfortable in my own skin. Good luck to everyone on this journey.
Hi,
I am Sue – Bristol UK – 196lbs – new to this and hoping for some support to keep me focussed. Just retired and wanting to not be 14 stone anymore.
Starting today with a FD – fingers crossed I make it to the end of the day which will be a good start. Probably my next FD will be Monday. Husband works 11 hour shifts so hopefully that will help me to deal with the FDays by doing them on his working days.
See you all tomorrow
Day 2, UK, FD
I’ve been doing this for 5 months now and lost 15 kilos from a starting weight of 100.3. I’m trying to get to 75, and have just left a 2 month plateau at 90 behind to reach 85. 10 more to go and I think I need the accountability of a group like this to keep me motivated.
All the best to all of you.
Day 2: Glasgow, Scotland. FD
Feel a bit let down by myself – I was 10st 3.5lbs two days ago, but I weighed myself this morning and I’m now 10st 4.5lbs! I’m going to do fast days every second day for at least a week, to see if I can push myself a little closer to the 10st mark. (I’m going on holiday on 5th April, and would feel great about myself if my scales said ‘9st Anything’….)
On a cheerier note – I just had a very nice one-egg omelette (with a few tiny chunks of Chorizo in it – for taste). That, and a cup of tea, and I’m fine until dinner tonight (a small tuna and tomato salad…)
2 nd post
Bert1802,
Try water Kefir to replace soda, it gets fizzy after a few fermentations and adds healthy gut bacterial. Very inexpensive as grains are a one off purchase. See utube videos on its use and properties. I love it, Ginger version is yummy.
Suemullins27, I started fasting just before I retired. You will have the time of your life. I am never home, it’s great. I joined U3A and haven’t looked back. Have fun!
Cboz – Have a great time in your new job. Change is good for the soul.
Fast day going well today, singing at Rock Choir is very rejuvenating, make sure you do something that makes you feel happy(whatever it might be). I don’t think using a hoop will be in that category for a while 😂
Day 2 Maine FD
Leaving lovely St. Simon’s Island, GA for Fl today..lovely beach day yesterday, but unfortunately, cold front & rain arriving today for the weekend. Oh well – everything’s green! Meeting up with foodie friends for the weekend – so already planning my food.
Struggled yesterday – didn’t make the best choices – had to have a cup of blue crab creamy soup – followed by grilled fish sandwich. Removed the roll & just ate fish, tomato & lettuce….but, then…wolfed down about 20 homemade potato chips…dipped in blue cheese sauce. Although hubby wanted to share the banana pudding for dessert – I drew the line. Wouldn’t have done that in January – so have made some progress!
@bert1802 – you really make me laugh! That’s a lot of ACV! Btw, responding to a post from last month, my best friend is a kitchen designer & hubby retired general contractor – know a lot about construction stress!
Make it a great day everybody!
Fasting ’til 5 – then planning on a salad.
Day 2 – Canada – FD
Keeping up with all the posts is quite a challenge. It does encourage one to stay mindful.
Would someone please shed some light on apple cider vinegar and the benefits to this WOL. I remember years ago my father would drink apple cider vinegar with warm water and honey to help his arthritic hands.
I have a very jazzy looking hula hoop here now but I was shocked at how I was only able to spin it around three or four times before it dropped to the floor. I must improve my technique if I ever expect to see a shrinking waistline.
Have a good day everyone.
Day 2 – FD – Canada
Woke up to snow today after unseasonably warm weather for the past few weeks. No walk today but will do HIT. My gut just isn’t tolerating this iron very well, I’ll got to get a handle on how to take it and not get all stopped up.
Congrats to all the new fasters. It gets easier! I admire your will and think that having a specific plan/menu for the first month or so helps… it can become second nature.
As @Schatzii said, you get a great feeling of your gut having a break, feeling lighter! I always appreciate that feeling the morning after a FD.
@pamie and @jarbia -@Pamie congrats on sensible NFD, that’s my goal. @jarbia I had a blah Feb, and am thinking prepping my NFD as well as my FDs may be the answer to stick TDEE (and not much beyond). I’m going to use my Loseit app, I recently discovered that it can analyze total fat, protein, carb, fiber, etc, intake for the day which is cool.
Day 2 – Californian currently living in France – NFD
Day 1 was a success, coming in at 390 calories! I did convince my husband to try this with me. He ate around 700 calories and went to bed 2 hours earlier than usual to be done with the day. Haha!!
On track today to get to 1700(ish) calories. According to the calculator, my BMR is 1485 and my TDEE is 2042, but I’m thinking 1700 is a good number to shoot for. As I am brand new to 5:2, I know this will take some adjusting along the way.
Best wishes to everyone!
Day 2- FD- Virginia, US.
This is the first time I try this WOL, never heard of it before and so far I like everything I’ve read about it. I had a rough start today with a cranky toddler early in the morning.
No breakfast yet, today I’m trying a late snack and dinner, I know I can be ok on water all day because I’ve done it before. This month my goal is to workout at least 4 times a week, I started wearing my Fitbit so I’m also shooting for 10k steps a day, eat more veggies and less bread (I love bread). Hopefully lose 5 lbs but would love to get into the 160s. Current weight 175.
Good luck everyone! Xo

Day 2 FD
This is my second fast day and I’ve been looking forward to it. I am re-reading the 5/2 book and bought a French press so I can make the latte recipe with is skim milk. It will be here tomorrow so I guess today I will cheat a little bit with half-and-half in my coffee. That’s the one thing that is difficult for me, that is I have to have a little half-and-half in my coffee. So next Monday I guess I’ll be able to have an honest fast day.
Reading this post by all of you is so inspirational. I love the way of life focus rather than dieting. When I was on this plan in the past I got comfortable with it. I think I just drifted away from it, partly because I didn’t have the support.

Day 2, Dunsborough, West Australia, NFD
Went out for coffee with a friend today and had citrus tart with double cream. Just because I’m doing 5:2 doesn’t mean that I can’t have something really super yummy every now and again. I feel as though I eat mindfully 99% of the time, and for the odd 1% I’m not too worried. If I restrict myself 100% then I know I won’t last the distance and continue with this WOL long term – which is what I aim to do.
Day 2 – USA – NFD
Good fast day yesterday, stayed under 500 cals. – first day taking ACV with a large glass of water; still tweaking 16:8, as I eat in the a.m. without looking at the clock…I’m doing 10am-6pm; I attempted a few pitiful rotations of the hula hoop, which has now been relegated to a privileged position near our bed along with the recumbent stationery bike. After 1 minute on that, I gave up. General housework and a 1/2 hour walk in the a.m. with the dog is about all the exercise I’ve been getting, but I’m determined to increase all those. Today I’m starting free weights every other day, first 3 lbs., then 5 lbs., then 8 lbs.
Day 2, NFD, USA
Good FD yesterday. Craved an avocado toast with an egg on top, so that’s what I had for breakfast.
I forgot your name, but the lovely Anna I believe who felt dejected she binged her fast day, no worries. Been there done that big time. But, This time you shall not blow your week, but try again today. Baby steps. And admitting it is half the battle. I know overeating/binging can be such a private, secretive cross to bear, but having us all to help you carry it makes it easier. Hugs!
Day 2, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD
Today’s weight 141.6, Below goal weight of 145.
HAPPY 68th birthday to me !!!! Have already done some early celebrating (none which involved food, by the way.) My boss and office pals sent me a beautiful flowering plant, my granddaughter came by the office and brought me some blooming pink tulips and a big balloon, got several cards and that was all before my birthday. (I am not at the office today thus the early gifts there).
In a very good place on this birthday, personally, professionally, healthwise, and spiritually. I am very, very grateful to see another day and to have so many loved ones to celebrate with.
Wishing each and every one of you a day filled with the celebration of life – regardless of your calendar day of birth !
Massachusetts, USA, Day 2, FD. Yesterday was a NFD, and I was great during the day. I was shooting to stay under my goal weight TDEE, and I expect I was well under until dinner…and dessert–couldn’t resist 🙁 . The good news is that I was tempted to keep snacking later into the night, but resisted the urge, and stuck to my planned cut off time of 9 p.m.
Does anyone know whether you are supposed to adhere to the TDEE for your goal weight or your current weight? I’ve never been 100% sure about this.
Thanks!
Day 2-Toronto-FD
@cleo120: I think it is current weight by the book but a goal weight TDEE seems like a way to accelerate your loss. The catch might be that going from fast to higher TDEE avoids having your body go into a calorie conservation mode. I am sure there are wiser heads that can answer the question correctly with the aim of us all achieving sustainable healthy weight and fat loss.
Happy birthday @lindasue!
@sirisan, just to let you know, you can build in half and half calories into your fast days. I usually have 1 medium scrambled egg with quite a few herbs or mushrooms for breakfast…a good sized salad with low fat dressing for lunch and a Smart Ones for dinner….lots of water in between, green tea.
Day 2, Canada, nfd
@bert try sparkling water with the juice of 1 lime a a few drops of liquid stevia-tastes like Mountain Dew only better😊
@lew,@Linda Sue best wishes for a happy birthday.
@pamie I follow a plant based diet with no oil a LA Drs. McDougall,Estylyn, Gregor. Bread and sweets are my downfall, making strides to substitute fruit instead of banana bread.
@Sirsian- what is a fascia blaster?
@Emma1956 do not worry about the 1lb, it is most likely fluid/food in transit and will be gone next time you weigh. I weigh daily but only record weight once a week and have learned not to be too bothered by the # on the scale cuz it can bounce widely on a day to day basis.
Day 2 – SW WA USA -FD
Schatziii -your user name is a term of endearment in German, right? I like it. About your question regarding calorie counting, I have let off some in that dept after doing so carefully for 3 or so months. I’m still keeping a food journal. On NFDs, I find keeping to a 16:8, so only an 8 hr eating window, is keeping my intake controlled. The scale keeps moving downward.
Day 2 – USA (Illinois) – NFD
Whew, pages and pages to read this morning! We certainly are an active group. Over 130 in our global community! But it has seemed to me the support and joy found here has made the difference in following this WOL.
Yesterday I was able to only eat breakfast and lunch totaling around 1100 calories with my TDEE around 1800, so I was happy with that. The lunch had been a big bowl of chile with fixings (cheese, onions, sour cream) with some crackers on the side, so I wasn’t hungry for much more than my apple for supper. Lots of water all day long too, and some good exercise. All on my maintenance agenda.
@lew and @lindasue – happy birthday! Linda, I’m 68 also (for 2 more months). What sweet celebrations with tulips and balloons!
@bert1802 and @erikka67 – I’m finding ACV an interesting acquired taste as well. Still not sure I want to do it every day, though. I don’t think I was the first to mention it last month, but I do know my Silver Sneaker’s instructor talks about it, also with turmeric added to help with inflammation. That’s what makes it bitter to me, and some add cayenne pepper – something I find disgusting.
Onward and downward!
2nd post
@lew,@Linda Sue, happy birthday, hope you’re both having a great day.
@anna Sophia there’s still time to pull today back, don’t punish yourself for not making today a FD, but also don’t decide that as you’ve had a binge you may as well carry on. Stop now and be kind to yourself. The wagon is still beside you so climb back on, I’ll give you a leg up if you need one. It may be worth thinking about what triggered the binge, not as a punishment but to be able to avoid it in future. Plan ahead now, when’s your next FD?
2nd day – Ended my second week of fasting this morning weighing 4.4 pounds lighter than when I started on February 21. Lost 3.2 pounds the first week and 1.2 this week. I’m happy with that…normal eating on NFD today. I don’t count calories on NFD because I did that for a 18 months with MFP – lost 23 pounds and then put it all but 2 pounds back on over the next 18 months. Just the thought of counting calories and weighting every morsel causes me to cringe.
My husband is doing this with me even though he has very little to lose – so that’s helping.
From rural central Pennsylvania.
Day 2 – Wy,USA – NFD
Yesterday was an easy fast day thanks to it being so hectic. With my bathroom flooding and desperately trying to get the toilet water smell out there was no to time to think of food. I had bad chocolate cravings at the end of the day but my wonderful 3 year old told me I couldn’t eat it or it will make me sick.
Day 2 Placentia California. FD
I have done two FD’s so far and I haven’t had very much trouble. I actually look forward to them. I guess because I know exactly what to do. What I have had trouble with is the other days! I have to stop thinking I can eat whatever I want. I haven’t been too bad but I want to be better because I really really want to loose this weight and get healthy.
