  • Day 17 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Happy St Patrick’s day celebrations to all our Irish or Irish heritage 31 Day March 2017 Challengers!

Not a good NFD yesterday ate around 500cals during the day then did a 1hr aerobic class but went out with DD in the evening – cocktails followed by a shared antipasti platter then a rib eye steak with veg and only a couple of chips but a large glass of primitive and then shared a pudding with DD and ended the evening with a Bailey’s coffee!!!!!!!!!!!! as a result a restless night sleep – we never learn……do we!!!!

Went for a very, very muddy 4 mile walk this morning with my Friday Walking Group but at least the rain held off for most of the walk, afterwards had a coffee and a scone with jam/cream for someone’s birthday but no breakfast or lunch for me today as out again tonight for a 3 course menu with accompanying wine tasting…….oh dear……..will have to be good over the weekend!

@songbirdme – good way to celebrate your 1 year anniversary – a real feel good buy that!
@gopackgo – great start to your 5:2 journey
@ciren2 – FOCUS ON THE GOOD – you are fasting for long periods and it does not sound like you are going over your TDEE – what about trying for a week of 18:6 as it sounds like you are achieving that easily and eat below your TDEE on those days. Maybe then consider adding one FD of 700cal for 1 week and so on – I also like the sound of @coda‘s advice – baby steps and remember that you are much stronger than you think you are – Hugs xx
@coda – some great advice given as usual and no apologies necessary!
@johnnyr and @In it to thin it – Respect on your 5 x FDs in a row – such self discipline – WELL DONE on achieving what you set out to to. @johnnyr – big OUCH….hope it heals cleanly
@lindasue – ignore what others say – you feeling good around your current weight is what matters!
@micheleas – well done on achieving your goal and having a maintainance plan in place – as it is a low weight I am assuming that you are not very tall…..Be safe and healthy x
@skinnylove – thanks for the update – amended
@quebecoise – so nice to hear from you – I have put you down as FD on Mondays and Thursdays on the spreadsheet as those were your thoughts but happy to update if necessary – hope you are having a fab time!
@fatteacher – Welcome – read my first post on page 1 of this thread and if you are new to this WOL @coda has posted some great links at the top of page 2. looking forward to reading your daily posts
@erika45 – I feel for you – three bad things in one day!!!!! but hope you realised that you still ended with such a positive thought for your day x
@sarah57, @okeydokey and @gopackgo – great weight loss so far in March
@monkeydo – high five to you for getting into the 70’s
@jojo58 – such positive posts and so good to hear that you are enjoying life

A big well done to those who are achieving their goals or even exceeding them – stay focused and positive.

Some great advice given to those struggling at the moment – what a great caring bunch we are on here offering guidance, support and advice to help each other along our journey – as I said before we are a global family caring for each other!

Personally I found that that when I plateaued – mixing things up a bit helped me achieve that final weight loss (around 7lbs) and reach my target.
Sometimes revisiting your TDEE is a good thing to do making sure that you are not overestimating your activity level OR doing a strict count of your calorie intake on one day to see if you are not underestimating what you are eating OR if you have moved away from the original 5:2 regime then go back and follow the basic principles again OR maybe it’s time to try 4:3 or doing a 16:8 on your NFDs.

“Don’t cry over the past, it’s gone. Don’t stress about the future, it hasn’t arrived. Live in the present and make it beautiful.”

    Day 17 – NFD – Canada
Lots of great posts in 24 hrs. I’m off the full throttle but hey, speed bumps happen, this is real life. These are our lives and they are messy and wonderful and not linear.
Planning cals for a Guinness tonight!

    UK
    Day 16- FD
    Day 17- FD, 68.1kg

Really got the hang of doing two FDs back to back. Had to start on 4:3 instead as im always back on square 1 every new week.

@gopackgo – congrats on reaching the 180’s threshold! well done you! And well done for saying NO to fries!! That is willpower, very hard to resist! Thankfully my OH is pretty laid back and is used to my healthy living experiments!

    Day 17: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD

Thank you those who are sending me advice, good vibes, hugs and general suggestions for making my fast-days successful.
You are all lovely, kind people out there…..I WILL keep trying, but, right now, I don’t seem to be in the mood for cutting back on the comfort eating…For that is what it is, trying to de-stress myself from perceived failings. For me, REAL.

I try to remind myself that I DID lose 28 pounds last year, which was the whole of my excess weight of 25 years standing. I just have a terrible fear that I’m putting it back on…..sooner or later….

Give me a few days, and hopefully, I can recover a positive and happier self, once more.

    Day 3, Amarillo,TX, FD 153lbs
Thank you for the support. I am determined to reach my goal. It will be a lot easier with the help of such an active group. I love the accountability of having to check in daily. I need that to keep me on track! How long did you teach? I retired from the state last year with 30 years. Now I am teaching at a small private school. It is a dream! Thanks again.

    Day 17 Massachusetts USA NFD

    Second Post,

AT, just want to thank you for always being so supportive and positive.

I know, with little or no weight left to lose, I should not even be commenting on anything when so many are struggling to lose a lot – but I do like to be able to check in and keep myself honest on here !

Had a great day with friends today, they said my face looks fine ! ( considering ) haha….
Ate no breakfast – a small chili at Wendy’s and a Jr. Frostee for lunch – plenty of food considering how much I ate at Pizza Hut yesterday. Having pizza again tonight – homemade so it will be topped with grilled veggies/onions/mushrooms, etc. Hubby will be the “chef”. Just drank a large cup of lemon water.

Hope all are having a wonderful morning/day/night.

Well done @oakeydokey on your amazing weight loss, that’s fab news!

    2nd post

    @lindasue – I so appreciate your posts & I’m sure I’m not alone – gives us all hope! It’s a win-win!

    2nd post

@flourbaby thanks for the water tips, will try them, like the idea of having a time limit to drink by, i.e. First bottle by noon, 2nd by 3pm, third by 7pm, frozen lemon cube sounds fab too.

Beautiful bottle shopping here I come. X

Thank you, SCS…. I had ten pounds to lose when I came here and was amazed at how quickly it fell off. But, what continues to amaze me is that I am able to maintain while still eating plenty of what I enjoy. Plus lots of other health benefits like less joint pain, better sleep patterns when my body isn’t digesting food constantly (even my husband said this morning – You sure have been sleeping well) plus the “regularity” that accompanies the healthier food choices. Not to mention all the wonderful people I have met on this forum.

Win, win, win, win, etc. Thanks again.

    2nd Post

There’s a fantastic amount of weight loss going on, well done to everyone. I completed a good FD today and am finding FDs easier than NFDs at the moment. Can anyone explain it?

It’s my weigh in day tomorrow 🙈 Have a great weekend everyone.

    Day 17 : Cheshire, UK : NFD

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🙂

@gopackgo — terrific loss for you, and marvelous will power to pass up that McD’s fry! This WOL really does take will power. And it sounds like you’re proving true to that! A milestone seeing 180’s is super! I remember when that happened to me – it was thrilling. I started about 193 just over a year ago. Each loss is wonderful, but going to the next middle number down especially.

Buttered popcorn is also a huge temptation for me. Hope your bar job wasn’t too tough for you!

    day 18, NFD, Sydney Australia

    FD Thursday 16th
    NFD Friday 17th
    NFD Saturday 18th

Since starting this March Challenge and sticking to the 5:2, I’m down 2 kgs. Target is 3kgs loss. Im noticing that apart from a reducing number on the scales, other benefits are my clothes definitely feel a bit looser in a good way, and surprisingly I have more energy. Just a bit more – waking up with a bit more zing.

13 more days of March. Good luck everyone.

    Day 15 Ireland NFD
    Day 16 FD
    Day 17 NFD

Happy St Patrick’s Day to everyone!
    Keep smiling team!

    Day 17 Florida, USA NFD
Ciren2 I must tell you that, having reached my ideal weight in 2013 with the 5/2, maintained it for 9 months, and then let most of the (16 pounds) creep back on. I’ve never regretted anything so much!! Now it’s taking me months to get back where I was but I’m committed. 5/2 was the only thing that really worked for me in decades.
    Stay with it!

    Day 17, USA, FD
The more of these FD I do, they do seem to get easier. BUT, I can usually only break the fast by 5:30PM, which is before the rest of the family eats, but hec — whatever gets us through the day, right? I am determined to hit my goal of 6 pounds lost this month; I’m down 4 lbs. (and had a huge cappucino and croissant yesterday). The more I stay busy on the FD and try not to think about food and grab a bottle of water or hot tea if I feel hungry, the more successful my day is. And I try and keep it easy. Kristen Varady who wrote The Every Other Day diet recommends Lean Cuisines and frozen diet meals on FD to keep it simple and reduce the risk of overeating. I can see why; no thought, no underestimating calories.
Let’s muster up the luck of the Irish for the rest of the month!

    Day 18 – NZ – FD

Day 17……Florida……err New York for the moment….. NFD

Wow….. it’s cold! Haven’t caught up with all the post but just wanted to pop in say Hi!

    Hope all is well!

    Peace be with you!

    Day 18 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 78.6kg

Well my weight is probably up now because I just finished breakfast.

It was interesting I wasn’t really dehydrated when I got up, later after drinking some water and climbing 150 floors I was starting to be dehydrated. I eat some pecans and weighed myself and was surprised the weight had dipped below 79kg. 3.4kg (~7 lbs) drop over my 36 hour fast which is higher than normal.

I think the higher amount of fiber was a real positive except while I’m eating it does increase my weight. Better hunger control and less dehydration will fasting are wins, but only one data point so far. I found eating that many raw vegetables difficult. So I don’t have a practical way to consume > 50g fiber in a day yet. I’m also not really into the raw food diet. I like some raw veggies but I like other things too.

Day 18 FD country West Australia 71.9 kgs – up down up down up down
apologies for erratic posts but still no computer so borrowing others’ computers/tablets when I can – well this IS the country!!
Had a good FD Wednesday 15th
    16:8 NFD Thursday 16th
    good NFD Friday 17th
    aiming for FD today.
Hope that has got me up to date for you AT. You are doing such a good job with so many people.
I do find that I am more mindful and FDs better when I have the support of this forum.
Like many others I find FDs easier when I eat very little – difficulty with liquid only fasts due to monster migraines no matter what I do or how I try to manage it!.
Once I eat more than a piece of fruit or an egg or similar it stimulates the digestive juices and the insulin and then it can be difficult to stop.
Being Lent it also makes me keener to fast!
Have a mindful day people and live it well.🤗
Still trying to catch up on about a week’s worth of posts and will gradually read them all.

Day 18 Kent, UK, NFD goal 4 lbs this month but not weighing until 31st March

I am post after FD on 17th, still very much awake at 1.30 in the morning. Not hungry and not tired even though really packed day.

I feel great, don’t actually care about scales anymore, interesting turn around for a self confessed scales addict. I am just focussed on healthy eating and having fun. This means I don’t eat complex carbs( processed foods like bread, rice, pasta, packet foods), sugar or products that include it. So keeping it raw and fresh where possible.

There is an exception to this because I make water Kefir which uses brown sugar to ferment drink. 80 % of the sugar is used in fermentation. Also I cut the suggested qty by half, so minimal effect. It’s a lovely ginger drink for NFD’s only and used after my meal.

Still doing 23/1 everyday plus 500 calories ( guessed not counted, usually fish or seafood salad) on 3 fast days per week. Drink every 30 mins 8 am to 8 pm. This keeps hunger at bay and maximises fat burning. Walk, exercise, dance and bowl most days.

Congrats to losers, good effort. To ‘stickers’ STOP WEIGHING’ and ‘COUNTING focus on healthy eating and having fun. STOP WORRYING, IT DOESN’T HELP!
You are what you are, a student learning to eat more sensibly, one baby step at a time until you are walking unaided, probably helping others.

Beware of Feeders! They may be mother’s, husbands, wives, friends. For their own reasons they want you to weaken your resolve. DON’T let them control you!

    Day 18 NZ FD
    Weigh in 80.5kg. Down 500gm.
Just bought a Nurtibullet RX with some birthday money. Very excited to be able to make healthy smoothies and it even makes hot soup and nut butters. Hope to make my own almond milk also.Has anyone else got one?
Beautiful weather here after the storms last week. A definite feel of autumn in the air. Lovely time of the year.

    2nd post.
Haven’t measured myself for a few weeks so thought I’d better do it.
Down 3cm waist,1cm bust, 1cm hips. Please to be heading in the right direction.
    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Day 17- Montreal- FD

    Day 18 – NZ – NFD

Am hoping that I have lost weight over the month but had decided to not weigh before month was up. An instructor at my regular gym class this morning said she thought I had lost some more weight, so here’s hoping!

    Day 18/NFD/ Aus

@ciren2 – I hear you! Maintenance can be tricky especially if your head’s in the wrong place. I hardly dare offer more advice especially since you’ve received so much. Can I just say I’ve been where you are and battled with the gremlins in my head. I’ve chosen to only have one fast day this week. I could say it’s because I’ve reached my targeted weight again but that would be be kidding myself it’s really because my head is in the wrong place. So I’m allowing myself a controlled break, my body is craving comfort food and more protein. I’ve been doing this from time to time and it’s helped with maintenance overall. So don’t beat yourself up embrace the break you have to have. Trust that the lessons you’ve learnt and the behaviours you’ve changed will cushion this moment in time.

@bert1802 – Wishing you well in the difficult decisions ahead.

@lany36 – Excellent advice to occasionally check calories to ensure you’re not over or under eating. I’m not a calorie counter I’m into portion control. I keep a measurement device in most of my food staple containers. But, if you think about it, each measurement is based on the calorie value of the food e.g 1/3 cup measure of oats is equivalent to 120 calories. By doing this I don’t obsess about calories. It’s done for me. I don’t worry about calories in veg, limit fruit to two pieces daily. From time to time I check that I’m not overeating protein by weighing. I need that visual check to keep me in line.

@NellaJimenez – Since you mention TDEE I’m assuming you count calories. Are you using an App? This week I’ve been into comfort eating, hence I’m carefully watching the calorie value of some of the foods I’m eating. Yesterday I entered a cup of full fat greek yoghurt into my app. Alarm bells rang when it only registered 175 calories. It’s worth being aware that the apps aren’t always perfect especially when they rely on the public entering data.

@Strawberriesandcream – Love the Butter Bob videos. Love anything to do with butter! One of the great motivators on my journey was to go to the supermarket, stand in front of the butter section and count the number of butter packs equivalent to the weight I had lost. Believe me 42 lbs of butter is a lot of fat!

@flourbaby – great advice about reading your own history. I’ll add reading Buttonboots Weight Loss Journey
    https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/buttonboots-my-weightloss-journey

    @lorky35 – Love the “frenemy”.

@steffieagle and @micheleas congratulations on approaching target weight

@at – Isn’t it great that 5:2 has given us permission to miss meals thus allowing us to enjoy other social occasions without angst or guilt.

    @songbirdme – happy anniversary!

@ninjamum – just saw your post. Thank you. Glad to read you’re sorting out your iron issues. Vitamin C combined with iron really helps with absorption. Iron tablets are under review for not only causing constipation and nausea but also damage to the gut. There will be times supplements are required to address iron deficiency and I’m certainly not advocating going against medical advice. Iron tablets made me very ill during pregnancy. My go to foods to boost iron are parsley, tomato juice, broccoli, occasional red meat, nuts, seeds, and legumes. Vitamin D tablets also make me nauseous. My mother was the same. She lost a considerable amount of weight due to feeling unwell. We were very surprised when Vitamin D tablets were found to be the culprit. Sad to read you lost your mum at such a young age. Mine was 90 when she died. I miss her every day.
@lindasue your comments are valuable. Everyone’s journey and reasons to post are personal and equally valid. We are all at different stages, every post helps someone. Continue doing what you need to do if it works for you.

Stay positive everyone. Hope the weather is kind wherever you are.

    Day 18 / Munic, Germany / NFD

    Day 18 Hampshire NFD

    Day 17 18 19 all NFD NZ
This feels weird after all my complaints of being stuck and feeling so lost, but I’ve actually made a small step in the right direction.
I had a week of 20:4 last week and only one full 36hours under 500cals this week with two other 24hour fasts, but no calories restricted in the evening of both of those days.
Today I tried my ‘measuring pants’….. and I can put them on and do them up???!!!!
They are not comfortable enough that I could sit down or actually wear them for an extended period, but the last time I tried they didn’t actually zip up….I still feel really flabby around the mid section but I have some hope restored that I am making progress😊😊😊😊
I wonder if I needed the mental mini break or if my body needed a release from repetitive fasting for a few days? Who knows what the answer is, but I do feel motivated to fast properly for two days next week.
I’ve also been more mindful of my NFDs without being stressed about every bite.
The other thing I’ve been doing to try and stay calm about my ‘stall’ and my crisis of faith in the process is, I downloaded the meditation app someone here mentioned and I’ve used that multiple times at night to help me sleep better.
This obviously hasn’t impacted my ‘measuring pants’ yet but today I tried milk kefir for the first time as part of my intention to eat more mindfully and with my overall health as the driver not my emotions.
I really enjoyed it. I didn’t want to drink it, so I soaked a tablespoon of chia seeds in it overnight with some cold cooked apple and a few berries. I ate it all with a scoop of Greek yoghurt and some mixed seeds and nuts sprinkled on top.
To be fair I couldn’t really taste the kefir, at least not the bitter tang I was expecting so I think I’ll have the same again tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone for all the supportive comments and encouragement to stick with this wol. I really needed to reach out and admit I was struggling and I received exactly what I needed from all of you. I’m not totally over my struggles but I now have faith I will get through with all of you beside me😘

    Day 18 UK FD

Good NFD yesterday, just the two healthy meals in the 6 hour window, no urge to snack. I am hoping today’s fast day will go better. I want to go back to just one meal. There is lots to do, I just need to remember to keep drinking. Not too hard as I’ll be inside supervising introducing the new rabbits to their new companions and grooming the hairy mob. We take in a lot of rabbits that have ridiculous coats that get dreadfully matted if neglected. One of the new ones has raw skin on her bottom from it being in contact with constantly wet fur that is so painful she stopped herself from weeing and gave herself bladder infections:( The owners vet suggested they put her to sleep as it was beyond them to keep her clean. But they brought her to me instead. She is much happier already, loving playing in her run, even with the little bootie I made to protect her sore foot, and despite my emptying her bladder for her twice a day to keep it from running down her legs. Improved muscle tone will take care of that soon enough. Sorry if that was too off topic.

    Day 18 UK NFD

Knowing I have to show a loss on the scale on Friday or Friday becomes another FD with an additional weigh on Saturday helped me this week and yesterday was more controlled despite an indian meal. (No, rice or naan, a single poppodum and tandoori king prawns and salad but two glasses of wine.) My focus on eating is much more frequently about what will be good for me rather than just about what I want and if it has potato with it. I now realise I was obsessed with spuds! Weirdly I just don’t miss them at all (aside from the odd chip). Don’t miss pasta or rice either. Bread is my struggle. I generally eat sourdough and keep it to a minimum but that is a struggle. I would still like it every day.

@lany36 good news and an example to all of us to just keep on keeping on.

@fatrabbit I always find your posts really interesting, whether about weight loss, your lovely sounding food or your animals. Nice to hear that rabbit is already improving.

@lindasue, always pleasd to read your supportive and helpful posts

Agree about watching feeders (@jojo58). It is my son I have to watch. He is a fantastic cook, but very slim and I believe the word is ‘ripped’. The last time he and girlfriend visited they brought a lot of chocolate and jelly babies. I can largely resist the chocolate and it was mainly 70/80% anyway for my OH. Jelly babies are a different matter. When I said I was losing weight and found those difficult to resist (which he and girlfriend knew and previously commented on favourably) and that I didn’t want to eat jelly babies he laughed and opened the (huge!) packet and virtually stuck it under my nose. I felt obliged to eat a few. I was really irritated with him. It wasn’t done maliciously but because he is a real feeder. I should have just said that I didn’t actually like them anymore. That is what I will do if it happens again. I binned them discretely the next day. I am so much better at freezing or just binning stuff I find it difficult to resist and that is just plain totally bad for my body.

That is waay too much on jelly babies I know. Don’t feel you have to add it in to your amazingly comprehensive and brilliant spreadsheet @at!

    Day 18 UK NFD 🌈

Rainy day here today, gym soon. Drink water. Good food choices. Gonna be as simple as that today, good luck all. X

Have a good day all. ⭐️

    DAY 18 – UK – FD

Thanks everyone for your support. I did feel mis. yesterday, and didn’t eat sensibly – but am back on track again, and will take suggestions on board, will measure, change my diet slightly and be more focused on making sure I eat sensibly, I never eat pasta or pizza both of which I did yesterday. It did the trick – as I feel I have had my “fix” for another 6 months (didn’t enjoy it much anyway). Scales were up another 1/2lb. So 141 lbs this morning. Will try to shift that extra lb. to-day – then back to focusing on my target of 2 lbs loss for the month. What would we fasters do without the support of this lovely group. Thank you all.

    Day 18, Newcastle UK, NFD

Great controlled NFD yesterday and negated the extra calories consumed at our meal out Thursday. Out with my girlfriends for drinks last night and drank single gins and slimline tonics – low units and low calories. Wine has very definitely lost its battle to control me.

I read each and every post and feel 100% committed to every member of our forum. Its lovely when someone comments on a post and gives advice, but I’m sure you’ll agree that the very act of being able to write out our feelings on a daily basis is such a powerful tool even if no one did reply. We know that others are reading and that we are all helping eachother by sharing our feelings, thoughts, strategies, opinions and the lovely insights into eachother’s lives. So @fatrabbit – I love to hear about your rabbits because it’s knowledge like this that helps us see a person for the person they are – not just the weight they have to lose. @dykask – I love to read of your experiments – you’ve certainly made your weightloss journey interesting which I expect has been key in keeping you motivated.

It doesn’t matter what stage any of us is at – we are all brilliant because as @JohhnyR says – at least we are doing this when so many don’t even try. Have a great weekend friends.

    Day 18, Germany, FD

    Day18 – Chester UK -NFD

Back to the weekend and my danger zone. NFD yesterday went well. I cooked some smoked haddock for tea with a poached egg and sweet potato wedges. I was really full at the end and couldn’t finish the fish. That never happens to me. @strawberriesand cream, I agree that this group is brilliant for keeping us going. I’ve tasked myself with posting some nonsense or other every day, which gives me the discipline to come here and read all the posts to get the support I need. Yesterday I was waiting for a train and having coffee, I was eyeing up,the cakes and found myself thinking I don’t want to disappoint the group by eating one of those!

Did my normal weigh in yesterday 2 lbs gone,

    Day 18 Surrey UK NFD

Weigh in today – down 1.5lbs to 143.5lbs woohoo!

Lovely post @strawberriesandcream thank you 😊

    Day 18 / UK / FD

So annoyed with myself (of course by way of the scales), Thursday’s coffee break for students and risotto doppio for dinner eradicated a fabulous little trend. But I’ll turn it into a positive: my annoyance with myself trumps even my worries about B2B FDs. And at just before 10am I am almost halfway through the for me critical period, falling into the rabbit hole of Buttonboots’ 5:2 journey (thanks for posting, @onahealthyhigh, truly inspiring, her tenacity!). Once I have made it after noon I would allow myself to eat, making pushing it just a little bit more into the afternoon that much easier, I’ll be busy cleaning the house (it’s my week this week) and generally getting through stuff well until after then. Then meal 1 before seeing Beauty & the Beast later in the afternoon and meal 2 anytime after that, sorted.

Hope it’ll go this smoothly for me and indeed for all of you, happy weekend!

Day 18 – Brittany, France – FD (at last!)

    Day 18 Portugal NFD
61.8 kg (yay into the 61s!)

FDs and NFDs this week have been very controlled. I wish all weeks were like that! The Mon, Wed, Frid fasting is working well for the time being. Will do this again this week.

My back is feeling a bit better and I am coming to terms with the broken tooth scenario. I am not looking forward to extraction next Wednesday – but it may help with my fasting lol. Thanks @metatauta, @strawberriesandcream, @In it to thin it and @at for your encouraging comments. I am not feeling just so sore and I have stopped feeling sorry for myself!

So today we are out for lunch to a great burger place! I am going to enjoy it but will watch what I eat the rest of the day and Sunday. Have a good weekend.

    Day 18 Portugal 2nd post
I don’t know what’s happening – did my first post actually post? As I tried to copy the message the second time it told me I had already written it but I can’t see the post for day 18. Maybe someone can let me know if they see it. I will paste it again below.

So today we are out for lunch to a great burger place! I am going to enjoy it but will watch what I eat the rest of the day and Sunday. Have a good weekend.

    Day 18, Cumbria UK, FD

    Day 18, London, UK, FD,

Some poor choices on my NFD yesterday, paying for them this morning……………… You really can’t teach an old dog new tricks!!!! I KNOW I need to remove temptations…………..although still below TDEE just not exactly the BEST choices.

@dykask, have you considered psyllium husks to supplement your veggies, for added fibre? I use it to ‘help’ things along and as I tend to use more soups on FDs the added fibre has a real sweeping effect!! Not as tasty as prunes, but I’ll continue to use it to avoid the sugar in prunes and for the easily accessible high fibre.

@onahealthyhigh, I also like reading about Buttonboots and also Lollys journey as well,

@bert1802, wishing you the best of luck, these decisions can be tough and hard; but ultimately you’ll make the right ones!

@fatrabbit, off topic is good, I love hearing about other things than fasting!! I would love to have an animal in my life, but I just don’t have the time or space and it would be neglected!!!! So pleased that bunny has you, I can almost feel her relief!!

@johnnyr, maybe a thumb ring would lead to further injury, you wouldn’t want to catch it on something (particularly something fast moving!!) The receptionist at my doctors has a tongue ‘thing’ which she taps annoyingly, against her teeth whilst concentrating on the PC………………I’m pretty sure her colleagues are right on the edge and there might be an ‘incident’ with a sharpened pencil soon!!!!

    Good luck everyone, Stay strong!!

    Day 18 Oxfordshire NFD

@flourbaby – I’ve used psyllium in the past but wasn’t too happy with the taste or texture. However the largest issue is that it is quite expensive in Japan. I do use a good amount of flaxseed meal mixed in coffee. The taste is masked and I find the fat content makes it more palatable. It is also more ready available. (It is possible I’m not looking for the right thing!) There are laxative pills/powders here that likely just contain psyllium. In the states it is quite easy to find psyllium husks so maybe my next trip I’ll pick up some. In the meantime I’m just going to add more fiber every chance I get.

I think the difficultly is I now seem to get full sooner. So it is uncomfortable to eat large amounts of food. I think a couple years ago I could have multiple plates vegetables and not feel full.

    Day 18: Glasgow, Scotland. FD.

Been doing well, but feel I’ve plateaued a wee bit this week (not helped by a fundraising party last night, at which a lot of sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and crisps were ‘disappeared’ by yours truly). Still, it was only one night, and I’m fasting today. Have a good Saturday, everyone….
