Day 24, Gozo Malta, FD
Today had coffee with milk and some mushroom soup. Then had cha tea latte. I’ll have soup again this evening and water.
Debster251 thank you.
Have a great day everyone.

Day 24 USA NFD
I wish I had time while traveling in business to keep up with all the posts! I have a 4 hour flight tomorrow so perhaps then I can read read read!
Meanwhile – I am going to do a B2B FD / 48 hours starting at dinner time Wednesday approx 6 p.m. and going thru to 6 o.m. on Friday this week.
Would anyone like to join me?
Day 24, Oceanside CA, NFD
Just enjoyed breakfast: protein waffle with berries, bananna, kiwi. Beautiful to look at and delicious. Holds me good for about 6 hours or more. Eat it on FD and NFD. No liquid fasts for me.
Today will exercise and play golf and enjoy a tuna steak dinner. Good protein, low fat and nutritious. Tomorrow back to FD. Still on target holding weight or a little lost each week. WOL is positive. DH doing well too. Together we FAST!
day 24, FD. New York, USA.
Feeling weak and missing food. But made myself a cup bouillon and hope that by the time my hunger calms down I will be in my 2:30 meeting where eating would be embarrassing to me (so I won’t bring food to it even if hungry).
One thing I’m learning: I don’t have to avoid food so much on my FD if I decide NOT to go INTO the kitchen. Once I make an excuse to go into the kitchen, resisting food becomes tricky. And on a non-fast day? I tend to feel freer to go into the kitchen, but if I avoid the kitchen even on non-fast days, I am better about the whole WOL.
I have learned this: no matter how much I told myself that I wasn’t an emotional eater, here’s the truth: I eat to reward myself when I’m happy, and I eat when I’m bored. (Or rather, I used to; I’ve pretty much completely given up snacking. I’m wondering, sometimes, if that isn’t a big reason that I’m having better success than I did with Weight Watchers.) Anyway, eating when happy and eating when bored are both emotional reasons for eating. Very interesting.
Also, making myself a little smackeral of something either healthy or unhealthy has also turned out to be one of those ways that I procrastinate.
It’s amazing to me how much time I used to spend thinking about and preparing food, outside of meals. I know that meal prep can be either quick or time-consuming. I’m talking about SNACK prep.
Getting to know my eating habits, and my internal dialog regarding eating/hunger/not-eating has been very interesting and not always in a good way lol. But helpful even if a little embarrassing to find out how emotions DO drive my food.
2nd post Portugal FD
Hope all my fasting friends are doing ok today! I have managed to make it to dinner time and I am so looking forward to a small meal under 500cal – homemade vegetable risotto. My OH is cooking it now and smell coming from kitchen is amazing. Just thinking about you other fasters has kept me going today. Thank you.
Hi UK day 24 NFD (sorry)
only this page to read and I am caught up again – didn’t get my usual catch up at lunch time as I went for a walk instead.
Thanks @lynzm – if no ones beats me to it I’ll give directions on how to start a thread but very easy to do.
@lily there are lots of ones here who are finding the journey slow (including me) but we are still here which is the important bit. @lou Belles and @ Fuvvie good informative responses, not only for Lily but for everyone who is on this road – whether on the wagon or has bounced off it.
@brightonbelle – me too last night my heart was not in it and this morning I woke up so grumpy and cross I stopped my fast. Just not the enthusiasm I usually have especially with my pocket fasters. Ah well another attempt on Thursday and Friday.
@cboz – I still hope the bank will make good the loss family member or not (which must be especially heartbreaking) surely checks that should have been done, were not?

Day 24 – NFD – Canada
Just came out of a longer than usual fast and ate a bit less on FD than I usually do. I have plateaued at 144 – whether 144.0, 144.4, or 144.8 for the past 10 days. It’s ok, normal. I feel really good post-fast so that’s a big plus. I
I’ve figured something out about my body – long driving trips are anathema to my metabolism/weight. We were away for the weekend. 4 hour drives both ways. Even though we exercised the middle day -cross country skiing- I gained rather a lot. And didn’t feel well. Last summer May-September I regularly drove that distance and generally played taxi to whole family of 5 (1 car) and guests and didn’t move nearly enough. The 10 lb weight gain over that period makes a lot more sense. I have to take better care next summer.
@pamelav – totally agree with procrastination and smackerals!
Lynzm – look at top of this page (top left, under Browse, active topics etc) and you will see under 31 day January 2017 challenge – start new topic in weight loss – click on that, name the challenge and enter your first post. Maybe do it at the weekend? Copy the link and paste into this challenge so people can find it. Thanks again for taking the lead in February x
Georgia/USA/day 24/NFD: Still maintaining my weight here. I have got to get my NFD’s under control. I’ve been doing okay so far today. Funny, I have No Problem sticking to my fast on the days I plan for my FD’s. It’s those times when I feel like I can eat what I want because my weight typically levels out to where I started. I’m looking to shed at least 5-8 lbs. here, but my current behavior is holding me back.
Day 24 : Cheshire, UK : CD/NFD
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I’m so hungry. I just want to something substantial. I’m sticking to the LCHF diet and I’ve been very mindful today. Eaten well under my TDEE and the carb content is just 10g – I’m allowing myself 20g each day.
I don’t know when I will be able to do a liquid fast 🙂 I may just about manage a quarter of my TDEE as a fast but who knows. I feel like I’m losing weight but I know if I have any carbs, my craving for chocolate, sweets and crisps will return, then I’ll be back to the struggle of starting again. Sigh! 🙂
Day 23 and 24 Ireland NFD weight 9 st 8 lb. which 2 lbs down since start of month and slightly up from last week’s low after b2b FD
Day 23 started as aFD but ended up as a low cal NFD as a 16:8 …went for walk with a friend and had lunch as first meal in day at 2 pm… but also had soup with family in evening.
Day 24 NFD… and not a very good one at that!
Laddie10 I’ll join you for b2b wed-Friday

Day 25 NZ NFD
I’ve just had a read through all the posts while sitting at the hairdresser…I find it so hard to sit still here for so long!
There’s a lot of talk about slow loss and extended fasts. My thoughts are: as we all know, the longer you are overweight the stronger your insulin resistance can become, therefore it stands to reason that combating that resistance (with fasting) and allowing your body to readapt takes time too. Insulin resistance doesn’t happen overnight and getting our body to return to using fat for fuel takes time and is easily undone when there is a long history of hyperinsulaemia.
We need to be patient and account for things like glycogen stores contributing a daily fluctuation of 400-500g on the scales, exercise adding weight with muscle inflammation repair and recovery, food in transit, stress, hormones etc etc etc.
As for extended fasts and extra fast days being the answer, personally I think it’s a potential trap that can lead to oversaturation and abandoning the wol. As with all things, too much of a good thing becomes bad.
We need to remember this was never a quick fix wol, we need to make sure our body doesn’t go into starvation mode with too many fasts, and our mind doesn’t become fatigued by the mental energy and focus required to fast.
With exercise, it’s actually the rest periods where we make the gains and with fasting the NFDs are we we tell the body it’s safe to let the weight go, we aren’t actually starving. But to circle back to my first point, the longer we have been overweight, the harder it is to reset our metabolism, please all take hope that slow and steady (with the normal fluctuations of life) is what really wins this… and it’s not a race. We all move at our own pace, the only way we can really make no progress is if we quit.
I’m a slow loser despite having less to loss, and that’s ok too, the smaller we are the less energy it takes to run the body and the closer we come to goals the longer it can take to finally get there.
I hope this doesn’t sound like a rant, I just want everyone to remain hopeful and committed.
Hi
@lany36 off course you are right and it’s sometimes nice to be reminded, more off anything is not always the best. I think it’s the perfectionist in all of us that drives us on and we should ask ourselves ‘what is the rush’? We will get there so why not enjoy the journey. However having said all that I must say when I suceeded in my first b2b it felt so empowering like I could do anything. It felt like a total reset especially my extended fast after Christmas. After reading the complete guide to fasting I was not concerned about extended fasting especially reading about the length of time some have fasted. But it must be what you want to do when you are in the right frame of mind to do it. If you feel any kind of desperation you need to look carefully at what is going on. While some may be happy to stick to 5 on, 2 off, others, like me like to mix it up a bit depending on the mood. And this I find is the joy of this woe it is not a Weight watchers plan that if you go off it, then you are off the plan. This woe has so many different factions to suit so many scenarios of life.
With people like you picking anyone up who you feel is loosing hope or commitment – is what makes this thread so strong.
BTW @fuvvie I see those numbers coming down – well done you x
Day 25 Sydney 0 FD
Changed my normal Thursday FD to Wednesday this week as it is Australia Day public holiday tomorrow and I find it much easier to fast when I am at work.
Just tea, black coffee and gallons of water until a salad dinner tonight.
Have a good day everyone.
I will only have limited internet over the weekend so I might have to do a catch up on Monday. My intention is
Day 26 NFD
Day 27 NFD
Day 28 NFD
Day 29 FD – throwing in an extra FD on Sunday to bring the month home srong.
Second post today
Hey pocket fasters we made it through the first day! Thought of you all several times as I sipped on another herbal tea. Thanks for your support and encouragement- it really helps to ‘keep the fast’.
First all liquid day for me too, water, coffee, tea, veggie boullion and homemade mushroom soup kept me running to the loo all day. Though I may have a handful of almonds before bed so that i can sleep.
QUBECQuoISE -Terrible weather in Quebec, hope you are safe inside.
@inittothinit way to go!! I have yet to do an all liquid day but I was able to keep my day well under the 500 mark. Let’s hope tomorrow is just as easy. The only moment I almost broke down was at Trader Joe’s today Bc their sea salt dark chocolate is to die for.
Looking forward to day 2 with my pocket pals!! Nighty night
Mamacat
you must have great resolve to visit Trader Joe’s on a FD. I avoid any places where food is on display or where I might encounter savory aromas.
Think I’ll be dreaming of sea salt dark chocolate tonight since you mentioned it . . .
Good luck to the pocket fasters tomorrow and all others fasting too.
@layny36 – great post and great reminders!
For me the B2B is more about managing my weekends and travel days which are not ideal days for me to fast. Meaning, I haven’t fasted this week due to travel and I won’t want to this weekend so that leaves Wed/Thur. Also, I do have a short term goal to be down below 140 or thereabouts by then time I go to our national meeting where we all where formal garb for an awards dinner.
After that event I plan on a 5:2 or 4:3 and simpler NFD where I just try to maintain so an overall slower pace.
I am not giving up but do admit I want to see some good results over the next few weeks and then will lighten up a bit so I can sustain this WOL.
Okay we have a small group set to start a B2B Wed and Thur this week. I plan to start after a light dinner tomorrow/Wed and run thru dinner time approx 6 pm Friday night.
Laddie10
Weemee
Pissupoosa
If you want to join please copy the 3 names above and add yours and we will pocketfast together!
Yes we are set to blast off soon!
Great post @lany36. Everyone loses weight at their own pace. Your phrase “food in transit” made me laugh out loud. I’ve been wondering how to express that thought delicately.
Day 25 : Cheshire, UK : FD
Please add me to the pocket fasters for Wed/Thurs, so that’s:
Laddie10
Weemee
Pissupoosa
GoldenSun
Not sure if it will be a liquid fast or a quarter TDEE; we will see 🙂
Stay strong everyone!
ps @pissupoosa – are your days mixed up as today is Day 25 in the UK?
Day 25 UK NFD
Hi all, thanks for the help with the link will put it up over the weekend.
Lany36 completely right – the minimum of this diet and as Mr Mosleys show on the TV stated is that this should be easy, two days at 500 cals and eat whatever u want on the next 5. (No counting)On average people tended to not over eat on the 5 days.
However then they went on (as this group do)and some challenge themselves to an extra day, or a longer Fast time on NFDs, of B2B fasting, or AFDs (alternate Fast Days) all helping all speeding up weight loss, if needed.
The minimum as stated above in the first paragraph is your way of life. This has other benefits than weight loss. Weight loss is the byproduct of the WOL.
We shouldn’t make this hard on ourselves unless up for the challenge like Lany36 said, however if you have weight to lose the extra challenges can spur u on and make it interesting. This group is great for that.
It’s your journey, your body, your life. Be the best u can be whatever way u get there.
Day 25 – Ireland – NFD
Went 43 kcals over on my fast day yesterday, but other wise it went OK. Fasted all day, but was running to the loo all day in work then ate 7pm then had a veg stir fry no oil just dry fry and threw in some of those zero noodles, I was nice. Excess calories came from the banana I had with a cup of tea for desert.
@coda thanks for posting those links.
Best of luck yo all the b2b’rs , I haven’t got there yet but will attempt this in February. Best of luck to all on fast days today 🙂
