  • Day 3 – FD – New Forest, UK

Not feeling as hungry today, as I did on Monday, which was my first ever FD

Hi Reid – have a look at this for studies on coconut oil.

    https://authoritynutrition.com/coconut-oil-studies/

    Day 3 Italy – FD
Feeling positive about my Fast today. Have been busy in the garden all morning and not even thought about eating. Am hoping I can make it through the afternoon which is usually when I struggle like mad.
Backtothefuture you really have got your work cut out, we’re in so many…amazing.
Congratulations to all of us for taking the decision to do something important for ourselves.

    Day 3 NFD Georgia, US
I did a FD yesterday and it went well. The scales this morning showed that I lost 2 lbs. That is very encouraging and inspiration to press on. I know that I will not continually lose this much on each FD, but this is a pleasant start. I thought that I would feel very hungry this morning, but not the case. A regular healthy eating day is what I will plan. I have a bag of sweet potatoes, does anyone have any ideas or good recipes for them?
    Have a great day all!

    Day 4 – FD – London UK

Decided to be a little experimental with my 2nd FD after reading some of your posts and learning from your experience. So I have not had anything but water and herbal tea since 9,00pm last night and I am feeling pretty good with it. I got up, had a large hot water and lemon, showered and went off to do an exercise class, did a few chores on the way home and I’m now having a vanilla chai tea. I feel pretty good and plan to get on with some housework and bits at home and have some chicken and roast veg for dinner around 7.00pm. I am feeling quite positive about the FDs so far, hope it continues!!

Really liking the sharing going on, very helpful as a newbie!!

Day 3 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

Doing the best I can, under the circumstances. I know were some to see me in action today, they may have concluded that I was exhibiting self sabotage behavior. To me labeling any activity as self sabotage means that blame is implicit. I actually believe in the intelligence of the human spirit and that my binge eating was the best way I knew how to cope with the pressure I felt under today. Learning to handle stress as a ‘thin person’ is an ongoing life lesson I’m engaged in!

    Day 3 – Cumbria UK – NFD
Last FD was on Monday 31/10 – 1hr Aerobic class this morning left me hot and sweaty but feeling good – had a coffee with a couple of friends afterwards – going out tonight to celebrate my 36th wedding anniversary! so even though officially this is a NFD I decided to fast from last night until dinner tonight and am planning on doing a FD tomorrow – weigh in for the week will be Saturday after my 2nd FD for the week – fingers crossed I have lost a little bit……..
Good luck to you all newbies and experienced 5:2 beautiful people for your weigh in at the end of the first week of this November challenge

YvonneB I like sweet potatoes best cut into smallish cubes and roasted in coconut oil, sprinkled with mixed herbs.

    Day 3– Colorado, USA– FD

Since I’m recuperating from surgery, I can’t be standing up in the kitchen cooking. DH got home from work, pretty wiped out & not feeling like putting together a meal. So he ordered pizza & chicken wings delivered.

    UGH!

Needless to say, I am looking forward to my Fast today to clear that mess out. 🙂

    Day 3 – Australia – NFD
Hi B2TF I hoping it is ok to join this forum late. Only started this lifestyle choice two days ago with my first FD. Decided to have a look on line just now at the webpage & saw this group.
Found my first FD relatively easy so very excited about seeing the long term benefits of this lifestyle, including losing weight & getting my BMI to a reasonable level.

Day 3 USA (Illinois – home of the World CHAMPION Chicago CUBS!)

FD for me today. I am celebrating today with a reminder of what a great year this has been, not only for baseball but for me personally losing weight for the first time in about 15 years. This WOL is terrific and it works. With not much in the way of exercise, I am healthier than I have been in decades.

Simcoeluv – and others – thank you for your kind remarks about my Cubbies. I started going to Wrigley Field as a little girl with my dad and brother in the 50’s and 60’s (I am 68) and have been waiting all my life to experience this victory. We instilled a love of sports in our kids, so we are all tired (late night game) but exuberant over the victory.

Fuvvie – thank you for your tremendous leadership through October and the accounting of all our “shedding” of weight. I love that you remind us we don’t want to “find” it again, so that weight is not “lost!”

I’ve been trying to do other things than fret over the World Series for days now, and finally I can take care of things I do in retirement. YEAH!

    Onward and downward!

    @yvonneb
Try a sweet potato and quorn mince / normal mince chilli.
    It’s devine

Day 3, NYC, NFD 156 lbs ( down a pound)

I had a FD yesterday and experimented with not eating until my evening meal, except for a cup of strawberries around 3pm. It was actually totally doable and I had planned what I could eat at the restaurant I was going to for dinner well before. I think planning ahead really helped and I could eat with confidence knowing I was within my calorie count.

I did my 3 fast days already (technically sunday was actually the FD for last week) because I am going away for a wedding. So I really hope to eat within my TDEE so that I can maintain this weight loss. Next week I will go back to my planned schedule of Mon/Fri with the addition of wednesday if possible as part of my goal for this month.

I have noticed that my weight loss graph goes up and then further down each week. So it seems slow but I have realized every time it goes up it then goes down further. So it is a wobbly but downward trajectory!

Its great to feel a little accountable with this forum. I have never joined one before and this has been good.

    Thanks!

Hi Yvonne – lucky you with all those sweet potatoes. My faves are to make a sweet potato coconut soup for a light day (very filling on its own) and nigella lawson’s sweet potato mac n cheese for treat/NFD day. Mac and cheese with sweet potato is filling but not as fattening, esp with low fat cheddar and brown or gluten free pasta. Scrumptious at this time of hear – with a nice salad on the side to up the veggies!

    Day 3, FD, canada

Yesterday’s calories 1305 well with my tdee.Starting a 4 day conference today. Will pack my own food rather than risk the rubber chicken buffet, donuts, muffins etc that will be on offer.

Anybody tracking fiber intake? WHAT is a good figure to aim for daily?

Day 3, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Non Fasting

First and most importantly – WAY TO GO CUBS, a party 108 years in the making. I could not be happier!

Now on to me, today is weigh in day (every Thursday) 144.

Everything went great yesterday, got a nice walk at lunch and the rest of the exercise at home. Had a nice big salad for dinner with extra protein.

Off to a day of fun and frivolity with friends – a weekly trek we have done for close to twenty years.

    Have a wonderful day, all.

Hi all day 3 uk nfd

    Good choices so far.

Mazzie10 – downward trajectory is what you are after. My graph is a little wobbly too and even though I can see those times when I was finding things a little difficult I never went back to where I started. This has kept me going at time.
Have any of the newbies taken a photo? This is for your eyes only but also another means of seeing the changes.

    Congratulations CUBBIES.

Second post – just wanted to see that those who don’t see immediate results might want to weigh every day and then do a ten day average.

My current ten day average is 146.8

The previous ten day average is 148.7

As I said before, I am on another site where I have logged my weight every day since 2007. It is available by graph and by line (words, where you can also make notes, etc.)

As weight fluctuates so much on a daily basis, it is good to see the true downward trajectory. Hope this helps.

Day 3 Surrey UK NFD To all the CUBS fans, congratulations! You must be delighted! I know absolutely nothing about baseball but I do know it is BIG in the USA. My son in law is an avid sports fan…any sport!
I have been watching anything and everything about the US elections coming up. It has been and still is fascinating, and I am sure feelings must be running pretty high. Whatever happens I hope the country itself comes out bigger and better than before.
@coda, wouldn’t it be nice at some point for a group of us to meet up…as you mentioned! If we keep visualizing it, it will happen.
Yesterday was a day of being aware of what I was eating, and stayed below my TDEE. Today seems to be following the same route, I am happy to see. Busy decorating the downstairs bathroom, having cleaned and wiped thoroughly, I am now going to paint it. Just wondering if I can lay the floor tiles as well…
@fuvvie, thanks for the feedback. I think October was a very interesting month for a lot of us who seemed to struggle more with things of the mind and emotions in relation to eating, and together it appears to me as though we have come through stronger at the end..and it’s so useful for the newbies because already one can see the experiences of those who have been around awhile being really helpful.
Enjoy the rest of the day!

I weigh myself everyday as it inspires me to keep going, an it has also helped with knowing wether I eat to much on nfd as I’m trying not to be obsessive calorie counting.
So far it’s working an I’m really pleased with the progress as I started last week in October.

    Day 3 Texas FD.

    @alanix, @tbezeck, @canadian in Dublin
Great ideas for the sweet potatoes! I have enough potatoes for all these recipes plus some.

    Day 3 USA. FD
Planning water, coffee and miso soup for at least 24 hours. Feeling inspired by al the posts!

    Day 3 : NFD : UK

Yesterdays FD was a failure. It’s very difficult to overcome emotional eating when mentally and /emotionally tired.

I really need to look at and acknowledge how I don’t take care of myself. There is a belief that leads to this behaviour that needs sourcing and deconstructing.

    xoxo

Day 1 for me. First ever fast day. So far so good. 200 cals down abs seabass planned for dinner. The next 2 hours will be the trickiest as I feed the kids, get them to bed and finally have my dinner.

Day 3: Gloucestershire, UK: Non-fast day.

    Day 3 UK FD

Yesterday was a fast day and wasn’t going to do two in row however maybe because it was new to me I just carried on.

    Water and lemon all day.
Ham and mushroom omelette, side salad and couple of chips. (Rude not to).

All my calories in one meal at lunch worked best for me today, early night it is then!

Key for me is to keep busy! Distraction. Love reading all the posts, and tips, when feeling it hard I have a little read up on a few posts and it keeps me going.

Good luck all, day 3 already. X

Day 3, NFD Saint Marys, Georgia
I’m doing good and searching for recipes in the nomnom app and Paleo to change it up some for me, next week I will be doing 3 Fast days, my husband will be preparing for surgery and he will be on clear liquids for 2 days maybe 3 and I plan to go liquid with him, I will weighin on the 18th ..

    Day 3|FD| Toronto
Off all the dental surgery related prescriptions as of today, looking forward to body metabolism “normality”. As a kick start I went for a long walk this morning prior to trying to get, finally, some work/research done.
Note: No coffee or caffeine consumed for one full day earlier in the week, I could not believe the impact (Zombie time…fit right in for Halloween); I may go cold turkey over a holiday period again but not at this point.
Congrats to all the Chicago Cubs fans;what a party you must be having after 108 years!

    Day 3; Toronto; FD

Sipping on my veg broth (12 calories per cup) and so happy for the Cubs! I’m a Blue Jays fan, of course, but thrilled for Chicago – Finally!!!

Day 3 US NFD. So far so good.

    Day 3 UK FD

Liquid only probably about 60 cals or so. Hungry at times but ok. Weigh in tomorrow which should keep me out of the kitchen. Although there is an open box of nuts….determined to stay strong.

    Hang in there everyone.

    Hi 2nd post

@goldensun – tut tut I thought after our October challenge you would not have used the word failure. Drastic measures called for me thinks!
NOTE TO ALL CHALLENGERS the word failure/failed is now banned for the rest of this challenge. I don’t think any of you would think of telling anyone else ‘you failed’ so why tell it to yourself.

@corleywoods while 3rd November may have been your first day – the day of the challenge = the day of the month. Also if you would include your location? Thanks

Day 3: Pacific NW USA, NFD

Nervous snacking last night due to nail biter WS game. The Cubs beat my team, the SF Giants, in the division series but I couldn’t help cheering for their eventual break of their 108 year jinx!

All are welcome to join this November challenge, here are our guidelines (to reiterate from Coda):

    1) Make an entry to this forum every day in November. I will be taking attendance!
    2) Start your daily post with “Day ___” writing in the actual corresponding day of November that you are writing, that’s how I log you in
    3) Add your geographic location
    4) State whether it is a FD or NFD for you
You can catch up and read everyone’s entries or not, add as many or as few replies as you want but at a minimum enter those 3 things each day!

Welcome: tbezeck, AshaJ, gracetash, ocaril, and Jenhealth!

    Day 3 USA FD

Starting to feel healthier. Back to school tomorrow hopefully.
I’m usually doing M & Th for fast days and I’m at work. Today is different being at home.

Last night I enjoyed bits of the Cubs game in between CMA 50 year awards. It was special to see the win for the Cubs.

I’m so appreciating reading & learning from this group.

Hi guys… I have done 1-1pm days twice now, and i have lost 1.5 kilos, its so easy and I have had NO headaches at all, and no flagging energy, will keep to this till xmas.

    Day 3-FD-Colorado

I’m new to the 5:2 and this is my first fast day! My doctor recommended I go on this plan…I’m 64, live in Colorado, married 40 years with 3 grown kids. I have about 30 lbs. to lose. I ruptured my Achilles Tendon 4 years ago & even after recovering, I stopped exercising. My extra weight is starting to drive up my cholesterol & blood pressure and I’m inching closer to a “pre–diabetes” stage. So, I need to lose this weight to avoid going on meds & stay healthy.

So, first thing this morning, I had coffee. Then I went for a walk–my Fitbit shows I did 3,000 steps, which is about a mile and a half. Then, I had a 200 calorie breakfast: Trader Joe’s oatmeal, 1/2 of a light multigrain English muffin and more coffee. For dinner, I’ll have a Lean Cuisine cheese ravioli meal and a salad, which totals 300 calories. During the day, I’ll just drink water, Green tea, seltzer water and hope I feel OK. I read you can get headaches, so hoping I can avoid that by staying hydrated.

I have a busy day, so we’ll see how Day 1 goes! Hope this works 🙂

    Hi Mumsy63
Thank you for the information on the connection between coconut oil and cholesterol.
I like to have a teaspoon of coconut oil in a cup black coffee especially on FD. It seems to help soothe hunger pangs.
I appreciate your help. I hope your day is going well.

DAY 3 dandylion from brittany France.

1st fast day today! Stopped eating around 9pm last night. Didn’t eat all day until 7pm when I had prawn salad. Feeling good. Glad that I’m motivated again. Every time I feel like smoking or nibbling I keep myself active to keep my mind off it. My house is looking very clean! Ha! Ha! Over and out ! DANDYLION XXX

    Day 3|FD|Buckinghamshire UK

Breakfast, boiled egg then a Skyr yoghurt. Water and tea at work. Dinner, butternut squash and leek soup and mackerel.

Colleague who I work quite closely with ordered pizza and garlic bread… the smell alone made want to cry 😣 and he kept offering me a slice. I said NO THANKS! Like 10 times 😣
Pleased with myself for resisting, normally I’d say what the hell and go for it…

C45Carol, what do you mean by 1-1 that you’re doing?

    Day 3 | Derbyshire UK | FD
I had a great day until about 3pm when I felt absolutely drained! I could have curled up and gone fast asleep. I had no coffee today so I don’t know if that was the problem. I stayed on task with the fast day though and had 354 calories. My repeat of week 5 day 1 c25k was rubbish this morning and I only managed two of the three intervals! I was worried about being late for work so that may have had an impact. Walked over 10k steps so two targets out of three achieved!

Coda sorry, I had already posted with my details in the morning but I will add to all my posts from now on.

Miesque great news on the IBS episodes abating – fingers crossed that becomes the norm.

Fuvvie I love pork belly, lucky you! You must be worn out from tearing around over 80km – I’m sure your son is very grateful for your kindness in helping out. 20kgs in 4 months is very impressive – well done.

AT congratulations on your 36th wedding anniversary. Sadly that sort of achievement is seen less and less these days.

Goldensun keep plugging away. I’m sure when you’re ready you’ll be able to get in the groove and reach your goals, take one day at a time and be kind to yourself.

On a food note. My supper today was 217 calories Healthier chicken balti on the bbc good food website. Absolutely delicious and filling 🍲

Anne Marilyn it was a link endorsed by MIMI in the daily mail you fast from 1pm to 1pm the next day, I was suffering so many bad migraines and it was ruining my fast days by feeling so ill and wiped out, so i am giving it a go till xmas, but i am impressed by it at the moment i must admit..
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3886188/The-5-2-party-dress-diet-Follow-slimming-special-lose-stone-six-weeks-just-time-Christmas.html

    2nd post
Mumsy63 thanks for info on coconut oil/cholestrol.

Fd didnt go to pkan but did manage welm under tdee so pleased with that!

Coda a 5.2 meet up would be great.

    must go guests just arrived!

    Day 3/ Florida USA/ NFD
I was surprised I was crazy hungry after my FD yesterday, stuck to my 500, went out to dinner and drank club soda, pretty boring, you can only do that with your spouse!

    So far so good

    Day 3 Portugal NFD
Terrible day today. Started out as a FD but didn’t last too long. I have been eating all the wrong kind of stuff all day long! Kids are off school and I am not in usual routine…so can’t focus at all. I am going on try for a FD tomorrow even though we are having a few friends over for nibbles/dessert after dinner tomorrow evening.
No exercise today other than a walk around shopping centre and supermarket. Must get up early tomorrow for some fitness blender.

    Day 3 – UK – FD

No hunger pains. Stuck to the calories.

    Hi @erika45

Sorry you had a rough day–I know how you feel. I’ve been there, done that, with lots of other diets.

One of the things I learned from Weight Watchers was “tomorrow is another day” and whenever I fell off the wagon and had a terrible day eating up a storm, I knew I could start over the next day. Sometimes life is what it is and we do what we can to get through the day. But, it passes and we reboot and move forward. Hope tomorrow is a good one for you.

Day 4: Melbourne Aust : NFD

    Day 3/Florida, USA/ NFD

So, I noticed something today….. yesterday by 5pm I only had 140 calories… work a very hard and busy shift where I didn’t sit down. Today, I had 445 calories being it is my NFD…. I felt sluggish after lunch and it 5:50 and I’m ready for bed. Work was the same as yesterday….
I feel physically better on fewer calories, my mind is clearer on few calories and I feel like I could fast everyday…. I’m not going to but could.
Is this odd or is it just me? Has anyone else noticed this turn of events in their own lives? Could it be food has become so toxic, that the side effects of consuming it have become the norm?
A bit more info…. I’m an avid fruit and veg eater, not a big bread eater.
