3rd post 🌈
Original Pocket groups were little group of people that wanted to do an extra challenge from the usual 5/2, so if you wanted to do a B2B or a water only Fast etc. You would put your challenge forward and others would join it.
You would right everyone’s name down and keep it in your pocket to give you extra incentive for the extra challenge you have attempted.
Recently this has evolved into a list of people that are having a Fast day that day, so there’s one near enough everyday. However if this helps keep momentum then it’s all good for those that want to do it that way and like to add your name to the list for extra incentive.
I am doing a pocket challenge B2B Fast Monday and Tuesday this week – @snowflake56 and @blueninjamum hopefully being in the same pocket. So will be keeping their names in my pocket.
@lynzm and @blueninjamum I will put your names in my pocket too, together we can do this!
Day 2 second post
@coda I hope today’s rare sunshine for this part of the world boosted your mood. You have been the backbone of our world wide family.
@metatauta how are you doing with the hoop? I just can’t get the hang of it but will keep trying!
@krisnia you’ve really been through the mill. I truly wish you every success on this WOL. Thank you for sharing your story.
I will add my name to the pocket list.

Day 2 – Durham UK – NFD
Hi all – wow, what a group we are now!! Welcome to all the newcomers, you have made a great decision – two, actually! First you adopted this WOL 🙌 and then you chose to join this incredible global support network 👊Good job, my friends. You are already on your way to changing your lives for the better.
Wow. I sound a little Anthony Robbins in that last bit. Didn’t mean to scare anyone. 😉
NFD for me today, but I played all day in a netball tournament (for non Commonwealth countries – it’s like basketball but with loads more rules!). I think I’m probably still under 1500 calories for the day (my TDEE is 2200ish) and my Apple Watch tells me I burned 2500 extra calories during the tournament – BOOM! In case you missed it, I’m pretty happy with that 😊
For tea tonight, I made an old favourite cheaters vegetarian chilli – and then I added up the calories and realised that, actually, an enormous bowl of chilli comes in bang on 500 calories! Hellloooooo new FD tea! As I was eating I also realised that I probably don’t need the couscous I use instead of rice but some extra guac with fresh tomatoes would taste even better… so now my new FD meal is 450 calories! I think with a few more tweaks I can probably get it to 400 or less, so I can get my apples in too (during the day, not in the chilli 😆).
That’s me for today. Sitting at home now, feet up, empty bowl of chilli and feeling the righteous pain of the serious workout. A pretty good deal all round!
All my best to all of you – together we are stronger🤗 🤝💪
Day 3 / UK / FD
Today’s FD was fairly tough, got emotional and may have gone over by a couple of spoons’ of peanut butter. Not gonna beat myself up about it, it was an emergency. However, mind-wise it’s the closest I’ve come to “ah, sod this, I’ll have spaghetti.” Tomorrow’s another FD, but I hope work will keep me occupied.
@okeydokey I applaud you for doing 5 FDs in a row again, good luck! I have planned my week now, but am thinking of something similar (or at least building myself up to) for the week after. I’ll meet my sister in London for Easter and 5:2 might go on a little hiatus for that…

Still day 2 –
MissyMay – congrats on your fastest 10K, due in part as you said to the stone you lost (“stone” being 14 lbs I believe – a new vocabulary word gleaned from this international forum).
Amber22 – all the best as you use 5:2 to help you get to your wedding goal. Many tweak the program as they go but most began by following it as Dr. Mosely wrote it. If you also start there, I think you’ll find success.
LynzM – yes, Lent helps me with my commitment as well. I haven’t been perfect but it’s helped me be mindful of what I put in my mouth – no added sugar is my 40 day commitment. It helps saying it outloud, as it were, on this forum too.
Monkeydo – all the best as you get situate in a new place. Hope you get feeling better soon.
Kinsia – TY for sharing part of your journey with us. I’m glad you found this forum. My adult daughter also struggles with seizures. They decided not to go the brain surgery route with her so it’s just lots of meds right now. Because of your sharing, it made me think of sharing more about this WOL with her.
It’s a glorious sunny day here – what fantastic “medicine”!
Day 2 – USA – FD
I’m so impressed by the support on this thread! I have a crazy schedule and travel quite a bit. I talked to a nutritionist who is very familiar with intermittent fasting and came up with a “traveling compromise”… I will do a 14 hr fast when traveling – essentially nothing after dinner until (healthy) lunch the next day.
Today is a “real” fast day. Hungry, but able to deal with it knowing that tomorrow I will be able to eat differently and that this is something that helps my body (in addition to helping me lose weight).
Day 2 – Scotland – NFD
I took my wee sister out for afternoon tea today, so ate more than I would have intended. I am feeling a wee bit bad about it, but I am hoping that my fast days on Tuesday and Thursday will keep me on track. I am not weighing in today, as I think that daily weigh ins make me feel bad, but I will go for a once a week tracking.
So many inspiring people on this forum! So glad to be a part of it.
2nd Post Day 3 – California, USA – FD
Just wanna say, it’s near 2:30pm here in Cali and I am kicking butt.
Today I read Dr.Mosley’s book, The Blood Sugar Diet, and found some interesting info on the BSD method in tandem with 5:2. It appears they can certainly overlap.
I’m feel I could complete at least 3 FDs (or would you call them BSDs?) a week with the limit being around 800 wholesome calories per day. I might even try for the full BSD 8 week plan. But, if the struggle is too much, I found comfort in what Dr.Mosley says in his book:
“I’ve written extensively about the health and weight loss benefits of the 5: 2 ‘intermittent fasting’ approach in The FastDiet (thefastdiet.co.uk). In the original version of The FastDiet, I recommended that men stick to 600 calories a day and women to 500 calories twice a week. Going up to 800 calories is unlikely to make that much of a difference, particularly if you are low-carb on the other five days.”
Oh, also, conventional wisdom was kicking in about slow gradual weight loss, but he provides a lot of insight as to why that wisdom is actually not quite something to clasp tightly. Here is a resource he cites in case anyone is curious: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMsa1208051
Of course, everyone knows what works for them! This was information I simply found refreshing.
Cheers!
2nd post.
Thank you @nabht for the link. Very refreshing indeed.
A recent poll conducted showed that 75% of us obtain dietary information from Facebook, YouTube or Google. With so much information, misinformation (some very dangerous e.g the recent death due to injecting turmeric), ‘gurus’ seeking to profit by selling the latest wonder drug, large Pharma and multinationals sponsoring scientific research it’s easy to became confused and cynical about approaches to weight loss. One only needs to think of the low fat movement. How many of us purchased healthy low fat yoghurt and popped it into our children’s healthy lunch boxes only to discover they were loaded with sugar. Sugar for many of us is the dangerous ingredient, not the fats.
I too, found Dr Moseley’s approach very refreshing. Not only because I’ve found it a very successful WOL but because of his willingness to tweak it as new studies are done and his willingness to try the approach himself. He also gives us permission to toss conventional ‘wisdom’ and for this I owe him enormously. How liberating is it to simply not eat to lose excess weight? How liberating is it to tweak an idea and find what works for each of us? No hard guidelines to follow, no long term deprivations, if we fall off the wagon tomorrow is a new day. And think of the health benefits.
Tomorrow will be my 2 1/2 year anniversary following this WOL. I couldn’t be happier or more grateful.
Day 3 – Tokyo, Japan – 79.5kg (Average April Weight – 78.63kg)
Wow I really over ate yesterday. My wife is cooking again. I’m also sore from building some shelves in the kitchen. I didn’t want to wait for delivery so I just had the shelf kits bundled up and carried them home. I was surprised that it was my “stronger” right hand that gave be trouble but I made it. Probably only around 15kg for each hand to hold onto, but over a km of carrying distance. I have some soreness today.
Where I live now there are crowds of tourists. The grounds around the imperial palace have lots of cherry trees and the weather is nice this year. It is almost surprising because it has been a long miserable winter here.
Pocketeers hold strong and make this fast day count!

Day 2, Oceanside CA, NFD
A glorious spring beach day here. Enjoyed two long walks for a total of 7 miles. Ate my usual protein waffle with fruit for breakfast. No lunch or snacks. Don’t miss it anymore. Nice baked salmon, broccoli and small sweet potato for dinner. Almost a FD except that I will enjoy my Cosmo tonite.
Monday FD will be more of the same. For the newbies FD does not equate with no energy. You can exercise just as you do on NFD’s. The day after you will always feel super energized and clear headed. Just another day on Fast 5:2.
Still Day 2 here –
Onahealthyhigh – your 2 1/2 yrs on this WOL is a testament to its working. A friend of mine has watched me lose and gain and now lose again. She told me she’d withhold judgement on the 5:2 until a year or two down the road. I am so pleased with the results of the first few months but I do hope it too becomes a WOL for me.
Steffieagle – it sounds like you’re in such a great rhythm with 5:2. You’ve made it work for you. You’re so steady. I love the sound of your waffle as a regular part of your week. Wish I didn’t still work. I’d have it as my 1st meal. Maybe I could do it on the weekends. The flexibility of 5:2 is great. When do you eat your breakfast? Just curious how folks work their days.
Day 3 – South Korea – FD
I weight myself this morning after I came back yesterday night from a weekend trip and only weight a kilo more than fridaymorning. I am happy how I enjoyed the weekend, and alll the foods that we ate but still made sure I was not overindulging. Today will be a fast day and Ill try to drink plenty of water during the day and will eat my 500 kcals for dinner.
Day 2 -Montreal- NFD
It’s going to be a bit hectic around here this week so here are my intentions and I’ll try and check in when I can
Day 3- NFD
Day 4- NFD
Day 5- NFD
Day 6- FD
Day 7- NFD
Day 8- NFD
Day 9- NFD
I’ll be doing 3 FD’s the following week to make up for this one. I will try and be mindful though, as much as possible.
3rd post-
@onahealthyhigh yeah! So glad it’s working for you.
As for me, I sort of overage again. Right now I’m 400 calories over my goal. Phooey. But still super healthy and light!
This means it’s been yet another NFD.
I think I’ll contribute my daily posts at nighttime.
This way I can just say what it was, instead of correcting myself.
Geez.
Still hopeful, though! I ain’t quitting yet.
Still Day 2 Florida USA This was an NFD that could’ve been an FD if I’d paid attention. By 8 pm I’d only had 500 calories (due to being in back to back films). Instead I had dessert. So, my FD will be Tuesday as planned, cause we’re going out to lunch with friends tomorrow. I want to be alert for when I’ve had an “accidental” FD and make it count. Happy to be part of a committed group!
DAY 3 – Sydney AUS – FD
Today is my 2nd fast day. Page 8 now, I need some time to catch up. I will report my weight tomorrow to see how I go.
Does everyone do exercise? What will happen if I loose weight with 5:2 and don’t do much exercise? I walk sometimes, go to Pilates class once a week (1 hour), and occasionally do some light exercise at home. I’m a bit worried about my skin getting looser.
2nd post – Finding today slightly harder than the past few fasts. Probably too many carbs and not enough fiber yesterday! Still I’m fine.
I hope everyone has a better start than me!

Good morning everyone!
@blueninjamum, @sirisan, @annemarilyn, @okeydokey and @skinnylove I’ve put you in my pocket!
Have a good day all of you, fasting or non-fasting.
@annnursekirk you’re welcome, we’re all here to help eachother on this journey.
Day 3 UK FD 🌈
My first day of my B2B. Did a bit of planning this month with Easter and a few meals our booked (again). So I put NFDs on all the meal out days and Easter and saw what I was left with and then put in my FDs.
I like to do a bit of planning then I am more focussed, I also like to get my FDs in together as day two always seems to be easier as I have gained momentum from day one. Sort of like pulling the wagon up the hill day one and free riding down the other side Day two.
So good luck all whatever day you are doing, good luck all the B2B pocket group.
Treated myself to bread yesterday (yes treated to bread), big white baguette – made me hungry all day!!!!
Day 3 – Staffordshire UK-nfd
Thank you @annemarilyn yes a stone is 14lb. But I’ve put on 2lb over weekend so now only 12lb lighter!
My weight jumps around alot, currently jumping around 150-152lb.
I was 164lb May16 and started 5:2 at 160lb at the end of Oct16. Slowly going in the right direction.
Day 3 Kent UK goal 4 lbs for April (march goal not met, Not weighed yet but I know it)
Good Morning everyone and congrats to March losers.
Back with you after a two week break from fasting and daily internet connection. I needed some downtime which of course was a disaster for my weight control. Not weighing until Friday and doing three fasts this week, M, W, F. New programme- weighing weekly on Sunday morning, monthly weighing was too long but it was an interesting experiment in reducing obsessive scales use. It was other life events that led me to a control crisis, now sorted out.
So good luck everyone, 500 calories, here we go! Going to a gym induction and dance class today.
Saw Beauty and the Beast last night, great film, lifted my spirits.
Morning all,
Just watching the news about how people in the North East are the 3rd most sedatory in the country so even tho it is a FD, better get up n at ‘um!
Wgt today is OMG 1/2 a kg more than it was on Saturday. even tho I have watched all that I have eaten. HOW IS THAT? Well at least it is a spurr to keep me off food today.
The tip on hot H2O with lemon & stivia sounds good, Okeydokey.
Off out now with the dogs now then brekkey as I could not do Zumba without something. Thinking of you all on FD today.
