  • Day 24 – Switzerland – FD

Hello lovely people – back from my week away, and had a dream of a time in beautiful Northumberland. Walked the family dog at dawn on Bamburgh beach, spotted wild dolphins off the coast at Seahouses, finally took a boat-trip out to the Farne Islands and saw puffins in their burrows, along with kittywakes, razorbills and lots of seals. Also saw the glorious gardens at Alnwick, visited the Priory on Lindisfarne, got lost in a labyrinth at Cragside. And got on famously with my in-laws, a great result all round!

Back to 4:3 today, nose to the grindstone, as my clothes are now a bit more snug than I prefer. Happy to join up with today’s pocketeers, and on auspicious p42 too!

Day 24 – Staffordshire UK- NFD

Well I’ve been missing for a little while and as you can guess I’ve strayed from the 5:2 path. I had a fabulous Easter break with the family but now it’s time to get back to the plan.

    Day 24 UK FD

@jarbia I know that feeling well. Don’t despair. Do two good fast days this week and all of a sudden things will feel a lot more positive. Good luck today!

    Day 24 UK FD 🌈

Here I go, FD with my pocketeers. One for all and all that…..🗡

@jarbia, certainly understand I was the same after Easter, the chocolate and treat Dragon came to visit for longer than invited, however one Succesful FD put him back in his cave. If you want to exercise as that is your WOL but can’t because you have an injured leg why not focus on arms or waist ATM? Challenge yourself and see if you can get the “guns” out for summer?

    😊👊🏻

    Day 24 – FIN – FD

Fell for cravings once again yesterday, but I allowed myself that. Now it’s time to move forward, onto a better and healthier week.

I saw a documentary last night called “That Sugar Film” by Damon Gameau, which once again reminded me that a calorie is not a calorie – what we eat is even more important than how much we eat. In the film, Gameau changed his eating habits by replacing healthy fats with sugar-rich processed foods that are commonly perceived as ‘healthy’. He ate about the same amount of food in terms of energy intake. During the two months the experiment lasted, he gained 6-9 kg, and also experienced a lot of other health deficits like a drastic increase in the amount of abdominal fat. The production value might not be top notch, but seeing only the last half of the document I could recommend watching it. It made me think about the amount of sugar I consume and its effects on me and created a desire to improve my diet once again.
I could also recommend “The Skinny on Obesity” for more anti-sugar ‘propaganda’.

@jarbia, I feel you. I thought the sugar cravings would at least stay away longer, but only one week back into eating sweets and I’ve already fallen for cravings every single non-fast day. There was a piece I read ages ago (don’t remember when or where) where it was talked about how it takes 6 months for new habits to become routine. Good luck for you this week, you can make it!

    Day 24 UK FD

Right, no question about it today is a fast day. I am going to make it a good one. What ever calls to me can just be patient, I’ll get to it tomorrow. (Fortunatly sweet stuff gave up on me already and anyway there is nothing sweetly tempting in the house.) Interestingly the scales stayed the same from yesterday so proably ate only what I should have. I went wrong wwhen I broke my eating windownand woke the dragon. I found it really difficult to get started yesterday and then after eating it dragged badly. I much prefer working with an empty stomach. It took hours longer than usual to clean the hutches and sheds. Then after that huge dinner the wicked wabbits played me up really badly. They dodged through gates and made me chase them up the path or ran round in circles or hid in the corner instead of going into their hutch/shed to eat their dinner the way they usually do. Pesky creatures! And I was so uncomfortably full that was not funny, although it did serve me right. How did they know??

    Day 24 Belfast FD
I’m absolutely determined that this last week will be a success.
@jarbia I’veI had a month just like yours, in fact if I am brutally honest I’ve struggled with this WOL since January. Since retiring, I’ve done a lot of travelling, caravanning and weekending away, and initially I managed my weight very well, but I have well and truly fallen off the wagon. Together we can do this, so I’m sending you big hugs and strong vibes. Keep that focus! Here’s a quote from AT.
“Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose”. So true!

So, pocketeers, holding hands around the world! We can do this!

Day24 UK FD @debster251 I’m in a very similar position , managing 2 FDs but blowing it on too much socialising etc at weekends ,it’s hard to get the balance isn’t it ? Going to try and knuckle down this week to end April on a high and get prepared for an extra good May , welcome back @pissupapoosa .Good luck all

Wow!! Thank you sooooo much Sarah57, Debster251, LynxM, Chimi…..how wonderful to get such good advice and support. It has given me the determination I needed to-day to “keep calm and carry on”. I think I am so upset as for 3 months (apart from a few slips)I have been really good – I lost weight the first month, and then plateaued but still kept with it….but the last month has been a real struggle, holidays, Easter and visitors….I feel I should have conquered these “natural events” by now – after all they occur frequently in everyone’s normal life, and injuring my calf was the final straw! I am on hols. again in a fortnight, but that should be easier, as we are self catering in Cornwall. I am hoping by then I can walk instead of hobble…and that will help. However, it’s so comforting to realise that I am not alone in my struggle, and that we all go thru’ the same blips – I am sure we with each others support we will all win thru’.
Debster251 – jump on the wagon with me to-day and we’ll see if we can get back on track together. BTW I am going to NI with my family for the May half-term to explore your beautiful part of the world. We are so looking forward to it.
Thanks, love and hugs to all.

    Day 24 – Melbourne – FD Yay!!
Have been in an April slump (like a few others, I see). But we can get back up – that idea of ‘pressing the reset button’ is a great one – thank you to whoever coined that term!

    Hi April Challengers!

Hampshire UK, FD (but not part of April’s challenge!)

I am just saying hi to you as I am game for the May challenge, so I am keeping an eye out for your posting @pissuppoosa as I will be the first to sign up!

To anyone struggling right now – I just want to let you know that the 5:2 WOL has worked for me. I have now reached my goal weight! So stick with it if you are faltering!

I was toying with joining one of the maintenance forums, but instead I am going to focus on losing an extra 1/4 stone to factor in holidays, Christmas, Easter etc and the siren call of wine and chocolate!!

I so enjoy logging in on FDs and reading posts as a distraction when I am feeling hungry. Plus it provides a great feeling of solidarity!

Thanks to everyone across all of these threads and all the great posts you write. This forum is such a great source of inspiration.
    Roll on May Challenge!

    Day 24 – South Korea – FD
I had a bad few days, but feeling motivated and in control again.

Last week of this challenge, lets go!

    Day 24, London, UK, NFD.

I had a lovely family day out yesterday, got the menu beforehand and worked out exactly what to order below TDEE…………. it worked a treat.

I’m planning 4FDs this week, hopefully 2 x B2Bs scheduled for extra busy days to make them easier.

Big Push for the end of April………. time really does fly when you’re having Fasting Fun!!!!

    Day 22, Belfast, NFD
    Day 23, Belfast NFD
    Day 24, Belfast, FD

….that pesky Easter break!! I think all my hard work at the start of april has been wiped away. This week I’m determined to do 3 FDs, and really keep check on what I eat for the rest. If my weight at the end of april is the same as what I started with I’ll be happy lol. I had a -5lb goal…we shall see. I’m trying not to be too down on myself as this type of holiday is really only twice a year. I find it very difficult to control the calories during the holidays, but now I’m back to work there should be more structure to my days. I’ll join the pocketeers today too as I need the extra motivation & support!! Good luck all!

    Day 24, Newcastle UK, FD

The very worst of my various dragons raised its head this weekend – the white wine dragon!! Having been dormant in its cave for nearly 3 months – out it came with a vengeance. Well I have news for it – GET BACK!!!

@jarbia – isn’t it wonderful to know we’re not alone in needing to hone our dragon fighting skills to carry on these battles. Now that I’ve accepted there will never be a definitive end to this weight loss war, it really is a case of fighting each battle as it comes along – doing the ‘cha cha cha’ along the way. I really do plan that one day I’ll reach the maintenance battle, but until then, I’ll keep on keeping on.

Plan this week is b2b2b2 Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 500 cals or under. CD Thursday, NFD Friday, FD Saturday with a final weigh in for @okeydokey‘s spreadsheet on Sunday morning. We leave for our holiday on Sunday afternoon and will be incommunicado until May 16th when I shall be joining you for the second half of The May Challenge – thanks so much @pissupoosa for leading.

Adding myself to the Pocketeers list as I too need the extra motivation and support. All the best everyone.

    Day 24……Florida….. FD

I can’t believe that in a week the April challenge will be over! What a rough month, I can not believe the struggle, I’ve had to put up with. Last night, as I laid in bed, I made a promise to myself, to get back to what made me successful. So, here it goes!

Pissaupoosa….. I will be joining you in the May challenge!

    Okay, well I’m off!

Be classy, sassy and a bit bad assy!

    Day 24 Maine FD

Good morning all – very controlled day yesterday – around 600 calories total – including cocktail hour w/neighbors – brought my own club soda in a “roadie” cup…nobody knew it was w/o alcohol.

Tho, tough day at work – could have used a drink…guest sought me out to say I did such a wonderful job checking her in, but (& her whole demeanor turned really nasty as she pointed a finger at me) I had neglected to tell her to turn her refrigerator on in the room & she had to discard the food she put in there. She was only in for one night – how much food could she have lost in a dorm sized refrigerator?? I, of course apologized profusely & told her in all my years there, I have never uttered “make sure your fridge is on before filling with food” while checking a guest in. She was so ugly about it. She will never stay with us again (thank god) & will tell her friend who recommended us, to never stay again. After she left, I found out she had already spoken to the manager about it, but waited ’till she could chastise me in person! Way too early in our season for this!!

But proud that I didn’t turn to food or alcohol – just brushed it off. I wanted to ask “did you have to turn the lights on, too?” But, held my tongue. I could understand if she had children with special food needs or meds, but it was one couple in their 60’s in for one night. Ok, I’m over it – thanks for letting me vent!!

I plan to have a very successful FD! Last weekly April & I want to see some lower numbers on cruella- make it a great day everybody!

    Day24 – UK -FD

Yesterday turned into a disaster. Long story short I ended up going to the local co op for a bottle of lemonade as we decided to have the first Pimms of the year as the weather was so gorgeous. So I got the diet Lemonade and then yep I bought some sweets – as we all know that sweets consumed in the car quickly and sneakily don’t count! There was I thinking sweets – can take em or leave em – in reality I will always need to keep my guard up. Anyway sitting in the garden with my glass of Pimms I started to feel very ill. My chest went really tight and I felt I couldn’t breathe. My OH was frantically rummaging through drawers for allergy medication I haven’t used in years. It eased off after a while but that was the end of a our nice relaxing time in the garden. I’m now trying to convince myself I’m allergic to Twirl bars and wine gums! In reality it was probably something in the lemonade. I woke up this morning feeling horrible – very bloated and still a bit breathless so don’t think today’s fast will be a problem. Lesson learned!

I used to suffer badly with allergies but it eased in my thirties. Over the past 12 months I’ve had a couple of attacks like this which was one of my reasons for wanting to get healthy. The body is surely a strange thing.

    Day 24 UK FD

    26. FD
    27. NFD
    28. FD

    Day 24 FD ……..UK

    Day 24 – UK – NFD.

If I go wrong today I am blaming that pesky question mark!

    Day 24. Lancaster pa. NFD.

Hello everyone day 24 (Son number 3’s birthday) UK Co Down FD

@pissupossa and @at off course I will be signing up to the May challenge to celebrate one year of challenges – I will probably still be here for the second anniversary too lol. I am so glad I had that moment back May 2016 and have kept company with people from all round the globe – its amazing and wonderful. To realise this is life – we have the good times sailing along and then as sure as anything we hit a rough patch but we just have to baton down the hatches and keep on going. It’s all peaks and troughs, while I may be sailing along someone else has hit a wall and that is were we are able to offer such support because we have all been there done that and wearing the tee shirts. Its the not giving up which is important and keep on keeping on. So while some are having a difficult time and I seem to be having a difficult few months I am in a better position now that when I started 5:2ing – it will pass, you will rise up and feel strong again – make the most of that time because as we all know something will come along – be it holidays, anniversaries, birthdays that will throw you off track again but this is life, this is the way it will be. Don’t despair, just keep trying.

It is ok to have moments of weakness, it does not make you a weak person. It is ok to be far from perfect, but always push to become better, not perfect. Perfect is not realistic.

@jarbia – what part of NI are you visiting?

    Day 24 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

Meeting a friend for lunch at a nice local coffee shop so likely will have their delicious quiche. It’s not the worst I could do there! They have beautiful pastries too, but I will avoid them.

@annemarilyn – It’s fun to remember our times with music, isn’t it? I’m the same way even as a judge. I try to remember the good ones I had and be that same person.

@onahealthyhigh – you describe your cheeky little mice with such delightful tones! I think you will miss them once they are gone, hopefully before your holiday. 🙂

@lindasue – so great to hear the hummingbirds made it to Missouri! I look forward to the rose-breasted grosbeaks and indigo bunting that arrive here about the same time. I still need to clean out my birdbath and assemble the solar powered fountain. Now that we’ve had some sunlight, it ought to work!

@pissapoosa – glad your exams are done. Whew! Hope and pray you have good results. I would like to stay on for May with my maintenance. I do feel like this is an extended family around here!

@jarbia – this board is exactly the reason I think our WOL works. We all support each other so well, and you’re part of us!

@coda – yes, one year ago I joined you all, and have been ever so happy I did. Thank you for your part in my success! Are you still coming to Chicago in June?

    Onward and downward.

    U.K Evesham day 24 223lb down 4

FD 24/5th . FD’s went ok last week, fluid fast first day then 500cal teatime second day, breaking fast noon of third day….I must admit I quite look forward to the fast,no need to think about food is there really 😏. Chinese out,a few beers with that, biggish pizza,Doritos, choc and some other rubbish to boot over the weekend but mindful prior to the junk as I knew I’d be having it…….the “ability” or knowing that you can/don’t-have-to-eat (fast) really does empower if you want to have junk…..I’m not saying you should,it just works for me as keeps me “normal” if you get me.

Definitely made a difference being back on the bike to me as burns a few cals .

Well done everyone and fingers crossed for the last few days X

Ever so much gratitude and kudos to you @okeydokey for all your hard work and support to everyone here, thank you 😄 👍

Day 24: Gloucestershire UK: The last of my NFDays?…I DO hope!
    @pissupoosa:
So glad you are back I hope the exams turn out to be a huge success. xx
Please put me down for May. Where there’s life there’s hope….

    Day 24 – US – FD
Thank-you to all in our group for the recommendations to try the cauliflower rice!✨ On my NFD I cooked chicken with turmeric, onions and cauliflower rice (ground up a bit in our blender.) With the curry, turmeric spice it tasted wonderful.✨Much healthier than rice.
@jarbia Wishing your leg gets better. Last May I broke my Tibia under my left knee cap. So I’ve just been able to start walking again. I use the rowing machine at our house. After a few months after I broke my leg I found I was able to do sit-ups, leg lifts and even planking to get rid of some of the physical and emotional distress. Then and now Physical therapy has me doing excetcises daily. Anything that gets your heart rate up to 80 bpm – 120 bpm is causing fat burning. Wishing you well this week. Please be gentle with yourself and take care of your leg.✨😊✨🤕✨😊
@and…exhale glad to hear about your vacay and that it went so well.😊✨Wild dolphins 🐬 awesome!✨
    @sarah57 to @jarbia Very sage advice. ✨
@saffy420 Sounds like quite an allergic reaction. I’m glad your on your way to feeling better. Wishing you a beneficial FD.😊✨
@maisie1 I have been aware of how addictive sugar and flour are since my 20’s. Thanks for sharing the info about the book. “Bright Line Eating,” I will look for it.✨
@obesa Wishing you well on your FD today.✨😊✨
@fatrabbit 🤣Thank-you for the smile and chuckle… I got your back! What a pesky question mark. ✨✨You Got This! ✨✨I remember you and I are in the same boat, or should I say on the same wagon with many doing this together today. When I fast I’m also an example for my daughter to eat veggies, protein instead of unhealthy foods. When you fast you are an example for your son to eat veggies, protein instead of unhealthy foods. ✨✨Climb on the wagon with all our buddies!✨✨We got this! ✨✨Together we are Stronger.✨✨

We are all on the wagon together. Hold on tightly to me/us. It’s a great Day to be had. Let’s make the last week in April the best ever!✨😊🐬

Warmest Wishes and All the best, everyone.✨🌈✨

Yes @songbirdme still scheduled to arrive in Chicago 6 June.

    Day 24, Germany, NFD

    UK Day 23 FD

Not posted for a long while. Sorry folks. Been busier than normal. I’ll do an update on my fast days/NFDs later. Easter has been hard. Chocolate, nice foods, etc. But I have altered my fasting around it to try and at least get 2 fasts in a week. Have been trying out 36 hour fasts to try and get some fat burning hours in. But, I think, the best outcome I can hope for at the end of this week, is that I’ve not slapped any weight on!

Another weird one is that I’ve been getting compliments from a few people about how I look having lost a bit, with comment such as “I don’t think you should lose any more…”
So I now have a little demon in my head saying, ‘ok, you can ease up a bit now, slow it down, have a nibble and a snack…)

But I know I really have 5-10kg more to lose (a) to be healthy fat %-wise; and (b) to be able to take my shirt off on the beach and not feel self-concious (ridiculous I know, but…).

So I’m tempted to change-up and do a 72 hour fast next week to kick-off May. Has anyone done one? Do I need to buy some bones from the Butcher, pretending they’re for a dog, etc.?

Okeydokey theres a bunch of videos on the website which give loads of info too, thanks for your comment.

    Day 24 – USA – NFD

@johnnyr, welcome back….who cares what the butcher thinks?

    Day 24 USA-WA FD
Thanks to several of you who posted movie and book references. It really helps me to have these when I need a dose of inspiration to keep on keeping on. And thanks to @strawberriesncream for a description of a few of your dragons! I like to collage for relaxation, and you are inspiring me to do little collages of my personal dragons the next time they are wreaking havoc. I also appreciated someone saying (maybe yesterday?) that it was St. George’s day. My husband laughed when I explained that I was celebrating this generally not recognized saint (in the USA) by fasting. He commented “sounds like you have found your way into a delightfully committed and entertaining group, if you are slaying dragons of food across the globe.” Je was envisioning us as global fasting superheroes! So, go Team!

@okeydokey, what is the link to the April spreadsheet?

Day 24 Chicago, Illinois USA – FD

@pissupoosa please add me to the May challenge, thank you.

Day 24 FD country west Australia
    Day 22, 23 NFDs

Had a really good FD today with about 200 calories. Was going to try to just do liquids but my DH suggested I have a few of the veggies I’d cooked for the family as he knows I get monstered by migraines often if I don’t eat.
This has improved since doing 5:2 but we have a very early start tomorrow for a dawn service to commemorate Anzac Day – a national holiday in Australia and NZ from World War I.
I shall break my fast with a shared breakfast after the service.
There is something special about a dawn service when we remember all the young men and women who have given their all in defence of their country.

Had to do some serious catching up with posts so have read from page 37 – 42. Still a way to go but it has been very helpful in keeping me occupied and away from food.

Read a few quotes in a business forum I subscribe to which seemed applicable to this WOL.
” Success is neither magical nor mysterious , success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.” Jim Rohn

” You are tougher than you think”.
” You have within you the capacity to reach the goal you set for yourself”. Shane Fielder.

Decided to get serious with this WOL for the last week of April so am doing what one does when all else fails – actually reading the book!!

    Day 24 – US – FD
@johnnyr Welcome back. added you to the Pocketeer group you are on the wagon with us! I can update your spreadsheet with the rest of this months info, if you’d like. From my experience and what I’ve seen on the groups, 72 hour fasts have been successful in breaking plateaus and jump starting weight loss. Are you thinking about bones for bone stock? The butcher here has no problem giving us (@fordprefect and I)bones. Or for slow cooking I get meat with the bone in. I stopped making slow-cook broth though because the smell was so good it made me hungry the whole time I was cooking it.
@krisnia and @strawberriesandcream I like that! Our group is slaying dragons ⚔️🐲of sugar and overeating across the globe! Thanks for the term, ✨✨We are “Global Fasting Heroes!”

@okeydokey Thank you for removing the question mark:)) And for reminding me about being a role model. I hope both those things will give me the strength to resist the walnuts my sister has dipped in chocolate and left lying around the kitchen. I normally won’t eat anything she makes but it is hard to go wrong with nuts and chocolate:~

Day 24 Florida USA NFD I don’t usually go crazy the day after a FD but yesterday I had a yen for a cheeseburger and fries. When you have to write down the calories for that kind of lunch it’s almost your TDEE for the whole day! I was on the phone with Apple tech support for FIVE hours so sending out for fast food was a good option. I did enjoy it and hubby made a very healthy supper with quinoa pasta and veggies (it was his smartphone I was troubleshooting for). I want to continue in May- who is hosting? I also don’t know how to add my name to pocketeers. Help!

Does anybody have the link to the April challenge spreadsheet?

    @mogaman pissupoosa is hosting May

@mogaman, I think @okeydokey adds all those that are on a fast day to the pocketeers, but my name is not on there either, and I am fasting today. @okeydokey, please add me to the pocketeers today. Thanks!

Oops, just saw my name was added to the pocketeers by @okeydokey. Thanks!
