  • Day 20, Vienna, Austria, NFD

Had breakfast at hotel and it did feel weird eating breakfast. But chose good food such as eggs, veggies, fruit, no cake. No lunch. Will have dinner cooked by my BFF. He said it will be some pork, veggies and potatoes. Will skip the potatoes if I can. Will walk to his place from my hotel. About 20 min one way. So I will get my steps. It is so cold, snowed πŸŒ¨β›„during the night. Only a home cooked mealπŸ—πŸ–πŸ² can lure me outside. The cool thing is that I am Viennese and I know my city, come here to visit my family and friends and only go sight-seeing when the weather is nice. πŸŒžπŸŒβ˜‰

    Day 20 Maine FD

Today starts the first 5 day work week for me…..actually happy it’s a FD – easier to have a plan. Out the door to get a walk in before work…weather gloomy & cold – looking forward to some nice warm spring weather.

Make it a super day everybody – only 10 more days in April! We can do it!

    @at & @onahealthyhigh.
    Thanks for the encouragement.
I’ve a good 7 years until retirement and probably continue semi retired as long as I’m able or want to. I’ve watched my mother go from a extremely active woman to having most things done for her over the last 8 years, mostly none of her fault although she stopped smoking in her 50s and has copd now due to it. It’s very sad. I guess what I’m trying to say is I want to be as independent as possible as far into my old age as I can and losing weight and keeping fit must be the corner stone of helping that situation.

The problem with the internet is sorting the facts from the fiction and theirs a lot of people put what they think and not what they know. That’s where these forums come into their own you’re talking with people who have been there and done it.

    Day 20, Germany, FD

    Day 20 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

Yesterday’s FD was very successful and included a brief power walk in wind around town. Down to 158 this morning. Interesting how my body can fluctuate about 4 pounds in just a couple days.
@redrockgirl302 – enjoy your time in Vienna! Last time we were there it was January and snow was rather expected. A terrific city!
@stevetoontaxidriver – I haven’t been doing 5:2 as long as others, but just over a year starting March 2016. Reached my 33# loss goal in November and have maintained since then. I still pat myself on the back for that, and truly I attribute my strength to do it to this forum and the great support here. So I vote yes, this WOL is sustainable.I feel for your mom – my brother also has COPD and of late has been hospitalized for pneumonia. He’s 72 and also quit smoking too late in life.

    Onward and downward!

Day 20 Chicago, Illinois USA – NFD

    Day 20 – FD – Canada
Second day of b2b. I think of the first FD in a week as a ‘reset’ day and am happy to report that according to weigh in I am reset to 134.0 lbs. So now the race to make it to (or close to) this month’s goal of 132. Yesterday went well, feel great this morning so am hoping to show benefit. Reading the posts I think my travels and lack of Easter celebrations (which I normally get into significantly) have worked out for the good of my WOL. Though next year I’d rather have the lamb & chocolate 🍫 .
Best wishes to all on this WOL. It works so well!!

    Day 20- USA- FD

    Day 20 USA NFD

Day 20, Still Looking At The Rain, USA. NFD- down another pound!! Yippee!!!! Feels good! πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

    Day 20 – US – FD 4th of b5b

4th FD of 5 FD’s for the week. June is getting closer and I want my body back that I had before I had gotten uterine cancer… That’s another story for another time.
So glad I have this group, you give me hope.
@annnursekirk When we Fast our body starts to detox. It is flushing toxins and bacteria out of our system. That can cause dehydration. We drink more water as to not get headaches and the cycle of drinking more water and flushing our system continues. We have to stay hydrated. Having a veg will help from becoming dehydrated.
@onahealthyhigh. Your so wonderful, I’m glad you have better friends now. I see how you turned that negative “past freind into a positive motivation.” Thanks for sharing your experiences and examples of how to reach Goal weight and maintain.
@at Thanks for living WOL, you are a calming example of how this WOE and WOL works.
@coda Thanks for starting the Challenge groups! It is a challenge kicking that sugar and carb dragon🐲To the curb. I think your getting your Ninja kicking dragon 🐲 skills back! Which is great! Thanks for starting and being in the Challenge groups! Keep on, Keeping on.

Day 20 Pocket Fasters✨✨Very nice to see all the fasters today. 😊 This WOL will bring us health and 🀣we can fit into our clothes so much more comfortably.πŸ˜ŠπŸŒˆπŸ•Š

Put your Pockey list’s whether on phone or on paper, in your pocket. We are doing this together.!! ✨✨We are Stronger Together.😊✨✨

Let’s let go of the unhealthy habits and replace them with healthy habits…. even if it’s 1 at a time and 1 Day at a time!!!

    @songbirdme.
Lots of inspirational people on this forum I’d give you a pat on the back if I could reach that far well done. I wish I had stopped smoking earlier although I did quit at 40 and have been off them 17 years now I wouldn’t wish COPD on my worst enemy it’s a horrible debilitating disease. Stopping smoking was the start of the weight gain I’ve had it under control a few times tried lots of different diets this one definitely suits me and I quite like the forum it’s great for information and generally sounding off keep up the good work everyone.

    Day 20 – USA – NFD

Had a great FD yesterday, 3 more to go before the end of this April challenge. For 2 weeks my weight did not change (183) and then as someone aptly put it “whoosh”, down to 181!

Question for LCHF’s: what particular brand of replacement do you take for loss of electrolytes?

    Day 20 Oman FD
    I’ve missed a few days….ive been away. So….
    Day 18 NFD
    Day 19 NFD
    Day 20 FD

Hello all day 20 UK co down fd

Thank you everyone – love you lots xxxx Definitely getting my mojo back – can’t you tell?

To my fellow dragon slayers – @Strawberriesandcream and @lynzm I think my dragon is back in it’s cave (for the time being at least) – how are you doing? I am determined while that Dragon is sleeping to make progress, I feel confident. It is now approximately 5 weeks to the big birthday and I mean to make them count. I am visualising how good it will feel – if not my ultimate goal a slimmer and healthier me.

@annnursekirk – someone here told me that when you lose fat, your body fills the cells with water as it can’t have just empty cells and when it releases the water is when you get a whoosh and lots of trips to the loo?

Something I have found about me – I can step on and off the scales but I will not write it down if I don’t like what they say – that way it doesn’t count – correct? I have also tried many times to keep a food diary but stop when I go off the rails – I can’t/wont’t write down the junk food – same with MFP I generally stop logging in if the dragon has been released. Perfectionism at its worst! The only thing I have done consistently is this forum. @stevetoontaxidriver I joined this forum July 2015 – no (to my shame sometimes) I am not at goal as yet (I am taking the scenic route on my journey lol) but I am still here and still heading in the right direction. I find this WOL certainly sustainable – more than WW and all the others I have tried (and it is free) – I agree @bert do those who say its not sustainable have a vested interest? If we all took on this WOL look at who would loose money! Since I put out a call in May 2016 I have logged in faithfully everyday (only missing a few days when on holiday). That is sustainable!

Day 20 – SW WA USA – FD

Scale moving downward. 1.4 lbs to go to get back to weight of beginning of the month.
Fatrabbit I think I’ll do a combo of 500 & 800 cal FDs during the week for a while.

Have a strong day everyone , no matter what comes along!

Day 20 UK NFD ( may have written this already)
Encouraged to hear about some of you on maintenance, could I ask if folk have done 5:2, 6:1 or another variation for their success?

Hello @maisie1 – hope the following is helpful

I stuck to the basic 5:2 for around 6/7 months as I did lose weight but then I got stuck on a plateau for some 3 or 4 months and joined the November Challenge on here for support and advice – and I learnt about 16:8 days, water fasts, B2B and B2B2B….etc so I started to vary my weeks a bit and dropped the final weight fairly quickly.Since reaching target I still do 5:2 with 16:8 eating window most days – I never have breakfast on waking as I just don’t feel hungry at that time, even after a FD!!
I find 2 meals per day pattern, as in having brunch and then an evening meal on my NFDs works well for me. If I have a stumble like I did over Easter (my first one since reaching target in December) I will do something like a B2B or B2B2B depending on how I feel. Like I have said before for me this is a permanent WOL and I hope to have long term health benefits from fasting on 2 days of the week as well as keeping the weight I lost off permanently.
I have found logging in daily on a forum, such as this one, so helpful as it keeps me accountable – it has helped me keep the weight off. Good luck with your journey.

    Day 20-US-FD

    Day 20 – US – FD 4 of b5b

@lynzm I agree with you! Self sabatoge dragon must go!πŸ—‘πŸ² Bye Bye!
@georgia83 Welcome back✨😊 I agree Let’s make this count for summer dresses and Men’s summer clothes to… woohoo 😊
@steve-toon-taxi-driver The way I look at it; this plan is based on a couple or few FD’s a week, and controlled NFD’s with a little splurging if desired. Pretty sustainable. Dr. Mosley and other doctors have found by either IF or 3 FD’s a month you can balance blood sugars, lower blood pressure and help your body to heal. I think that is not only sustainable but great for good health.😊The fact that the WOE and the WOL is flexible allows us to lose weight when we choose. I think that makes it even more flexible which allows it to be sustainable for different types of people with different goals. If someone has said it is not sustainable chances are they haven’t given it a try.

    Day 20 UK FD

Still up from week before Easter when I was 10lbs to go to goal.

@at, @onahealthyhigh, @flourbaby Thank you all for your wonderful motivational posts today. @at pressing that reset button firmly enough this week has not happened. That is what I intend to do today. What I need is a b2b liquid fast. This is day one then tomorrow and I will weigh in Saturday and hope to reverse the damage done over Easter. More damage than I did at Christmas. Why, I just don’t know….

I either want this or I don’t. So I need to get on with it NOW. Thank you for delivering the talking to I seemed to be incapable of giving myself. I WILL be joining you in maintenance soon!!

Day 20: Gloucestershire, UK: Non Fast Day…

Day 20 NFD/Day 21 NFD Country west Australia
It has just gone midnight so am posting for the 2 days. Have been dealing with an uncooperative computer.
    Must go to bed earlier.
I love the fact that I now eat less with this WOE but I still have to be careful as it is incredibly easy to fall in to old habits e.g. eating a handful of nuts and then another without really being aware of it.
Just wrote a post, posted and AGAIN it has disappeared into the ether.

I might live longer with 5:2 but the cortisol and adrenaline levels are raised so dangerously high due to technology issues that I will be in an early grave !!!!!!
    Good night/happy day to all.😴

    Day 20, London, UK, FD
    Day 19 NFD
    Day 18 FD

FDs after Easter have been easier than I thought they would be, but I’m back at work now and FDs are so much easier when at work. Had a major clear out of my wardrobe last weekend and got rid of all those clothes which are too large now – I’m determined not to go back to that size. My blood pressure is also down, but not low enough to come off the medication yet, but here’s hoping.
I’ve discovered lots of vegetarian salads at M&S – about 300 calories of below & they’re all very filling.

Day 20 LANCASTER PA NFD !!!

@ninjamum You really have made this a WOL. Looks like this month could be the month you reach your goal weight. Your very inspiring✨
@helenalee Looks like your FD is going well today. Our group is here if something comes up. Thanks for checking in.😊
@fordprefect 🀣I hope your NFD is going well. 😊

    Oooops That’s
@blueninjamum You really have made this a WOL. Looks like this month could be the month you reach your goal weight. Your very inspiring✨
@coda βœ¨πŸ•ŠGlad your getting your mojo back! Happy fasting today. I must have missed your post as I was typing in the Pocketeers. Glad we have you on board today!βœ¨βœ¨πŸ²πŸ—‘βœ¨βœ¨πŸ˜Š

Day 20 – East Coast Canada – FD
Snow – Ugh. Yesterday was the coldest April day on record…maybe I need that layer of fat back!

    Day 20
    Newcastle NFD
    Evening everyone,
I have thought about all that I have said over the last few days re the ‘in law’ & really do feel I owe you all an apology for my rants & disingenuous comments.
Like Obese said & someone else said about their mother, (I should know better as I also have a ‘toxic’ mother & reading my posts I sounded just like her & I dont like it), I need to rise above it.
I had considered not coming back to the site but decided to just apologise to you all then keep to the facts in future. Trying to be a nicer person is the aim as well as the weight loss.

I have to say these last few days I have not been good with what I have eaten on my NFD (cake – my downfall), I think due to how I have been feeling.
We have had a cake in the house (mistake) & some friends who did not know we are on a diet came up again to help with our garden & bought us a lovely home made VIctoria sponge. Well, my reasoning is, it would be rude not to indulge wouldnt it when she has gone to so much trouble?

However, back on a FD tomorrow & I intend to have no more than 600 & to use the tips Okeydokey suggested.
Also the new scales have arrived so a bit worried about how much I will be tomorrow as the old ones
    may have been light.
Going back to sustainability. I work with a doctor who over the last 3 1/2 years has lost more than a couple of stone, along with her husband (lost weight not her husband). They have both kept it off & with their 2 children, have changed their WOL & E for them all. She feels it is the best thing she has ever done & she is now swimming & running regularly which is something she never did in her youth. So I think she would support it.
I have great admiration for all of you who are doing the B2B for days well done. Maybe in a few weeks I might have a try.
Enough from me but before I go anyone on a FD tomorrow?.

    Day 20 – UK – FD (supposedly)

Didn’t have a very good FD today. Started out alright, but then I just kept craving food and was constantly hungry and felt drained. I’m still in a deficit, I’ve maybe hit about 800-900 calories, would you say that could still count as a FD?

I’ve lowered by NFD calories to 2000 to make up for today and to help speed up the weight loss, but I think I’m really gonna struggle with 500 calories, tips anyone?

I also cant help but think that I failed my FD as I couldn’t stick to the 500 calories, but I guess as I’ve just started and haven’t weighed myself yet, so I don’t know if I’m still gonna lose this week.

Sorry if this seems like a whiny post guys, I’m just fed up with not being able to stick to my goal today.

Day 20, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Hello all, just back from a great day out with friends – volunteer group committee meeting, shopping, eating (Subway veggie delite with vinegar/oil), more shopping. AND several of us are going shopping again tomorrow ! Weekly event, shopping and eating with good friends. Love it.

Maintaining under goal weight, keeping up the exercise and fluid intake.

    To your health, all

Okey-dokey – thanks so much for your work on the worksheet. When you’re into it sometime, I did post my mid month weight – 199 lbs. It was up from the beginning, but that was the reality.

Day 20 / UK / NFD after all
    Day 21 / UK / CD maybe?

@Strawberriesandcream, thank you so much for your words, I will hold them dear. For now I’m still spinning.

I am SO over this week! In a desperate attempt to finally leave Easter behind me I had all, a-l-l, the remaining Easter eggs except for one Lindt bunny, now hidden in the far corner of the cupboard above the oven, which I can only reach standing on a chair and clearing it all out. I thought I’d be sick if I had that one as well. Today has really brought home to me how addicted I am to sugar. Since starting this diet I haven’t consciously been cutting out sugar but have been mindful of it and have not been adding any, so in the process will have slowly weaned myself off it. Allowing myself whatever I wanted over the weekend (including a trip to the Hummingbird Bakery) has been giving me a sugar high that my body has been demanding every single day since. I can’t wait for things to go back to normal, but I won’t make any grand plans about the coming days again. I’ll just try to take every one as they come.

    Day 20 – USA – NFD
    Second post

@annnursekirk, in my opinion, it was completely unnecessary for you to apologize to any of us. You were in a situation where you felt comfortable enough to vent to cyberfriends; you knew we would understand your dilemna and you needed encouragement and I hope you got it. That’s what this forum is for: we can talk about our successes, our failings, etc. Period.

@calamitycazza, it’s hard to divert to a new way of life all of a sudden; we’ve all been there. Perhaps you can find some suggestions from recent posts about foods you can eat on FDs that will fill you up. I notice that protein fills me up without adding too many calories: eggs is one example. Veggies will fill you up too. Having your breakfast (if you are able) later in the morning and then drinking water, seltzer, tea during the day will fill you up and you might want to have dinner a little later before you go to sleep and have some more protein so you won’t feel hungry at night. Hope this helps! Hang in there!

@metatauta Thanks! I didn’t realise how difficult it would be! My first FD was fine, but the second one just wasn’t going as well! I’ll take a look at more protein rich foods and see how I do πŸ™‚

    Day 21 NZ FD

    Day 19, Mountaintop PA, NFD
    Day 20, Mountaintop PA, FD

The rhythm of the week has brought me to my second FD this week. Not too hungry on NFD but today is a little different as I need to stay in office for a time and that is not conducive to being busy enough during the day. Had some nuts, yogurt and a few apple slices.

Dinner salads for DH and me tonite. Lots of veggies fills us up for our early to bed fast day. We are 5 months in now. It seems very natural to us now.

Am down within 1 pound of goal, 151.4 this morning. Clothes fit great, some even too big in my smaller size. Off to the seamstress for some adjustments!

@annnursekirk no apology necessary and don’t feel bad because you said what you feel, sometimes you need to say it to feel better. Actually made me smile lol, we are human after all and I thought I was the only one with a mil like that, though she and I get on much better now. Maybe because I don’t see her that often lol? Glad you didn’t disappear that would have been sad.

Found this I had written on a page marking a book. Must have written it down some time ago. “What you think you become. What you feel you attract. What you imagine you create”.

    2nd post

So happy you all welcomed me back, it did cheer me up immensely amd made the FD easier. Good to see so many familiar faces around!

As planned, managed to save my calories for dinner – a first as i usually eat them throughout the day. I also managed to drag myself to the gym and walk 5k just before dinner – not sure where i read that exercising during fast is beneficial, and really pleased I’ve done it, didnt feel too hard either.

    Day 20 – UK – FD

Did ok today. Apple for lunch then turkey stir fry with lots of veg. @calamitycazza, I started this in January and really struggled. I was eating low cal ready meals on FDs such as from Weight Watchers. They didn’t fill me up at all and were full of additives. As a result I lost my enthusiasm. In March, after lurking on this forum for a while I took advice and started to make dinner my main meal mainly eating a protein with lots of salad or veg (my freezer is full of fish) I drink lots of water/coffee during the day and typically have an apple for lunch. It tends to fill me up. As a result I’ve lost weight and I feel healthier. It does get easier as you go along. Take it slowly and follow the principles – it’s a way of life not a diet as such. Weight loss is a happy side effect, πŸ˜€

This forum is a great support and everyone cares about each other. I follow 5:2 more or less all the time as my willpower won’t let me do b2b2bs etc. I’m losing 1-2lbs per week. Would I like to go faster, definitely but would I stick to this if I pushed myself more, probably, not.

    Day 19 – CARDIFF UK – NFD
    Day 20 – CARDIFF UK – NFD

    Starting Weight : 160.8lbs

    Today’s Weight : 161.6lbs +0.8 lbs

@annnursekirk I agree no apology necessary, the saying ‘You can choose your friends but you can’t chose your family’ is very true. I glad you have chose us to be your friends.

I’m struggling a bit at the moment, not so much fallen off the wagon as stopped in a lay-by. Hoping to have the first FD in a while tomorrow.

    Still day 20 –

@calamitcazza – Saffy420 had some helpful feedback for you. For me, it depends on the day. Today is also a FD for me and I was hungrier than usual at lunch so had an apple & one slice of cheese. I’ll finish my 500 calories at supper with a protein & vegetable rich meal (caprese chicken tonight). In Dr. Mosely (sp?)’s book, he went for liquids during the day and solids saved for the evening meal. Mimi, on the other hand usually had a little something, llike an apple, at noon & the rest of the calories in the evening. As you go, you’ll find what works best for you.

    Day 20 – US – FD
@annnursekirk … I was saddened that you were thinking about leaving our group. I had read your posts and just saw it as letting off steam. I didn’t think you were actually being mean to your relatives I realized you were just expressing your feelings to us, because we are a group supporting each other.😊 Some people like to express there feelings and some don’t. The goal here, I believe is to be supportive to you as you go through this new WOE, and new WOL. I didn’t have any problem with you expressing your feelings about getting through your FD’s and NFD’s while your in laws were in town. Cooking food in the middle of the night? I think you had every right to express that in our group.😊 Of course we could all be more flexible… As far as I can tell you had to keep it to yourself in that situation and I was glad you had a place to express it here. We are human and we are learning. Sure, we’ll have to become patient with people who might not agree or respect our way of life. Please don’t feel bad for sharing your experience with the group.✨
@erikaa67 Thank-you for the compliment.✨I have been doing more research on Lyme disease as I do and thought I’d share some of what I found. If you feel better your WOE and your WOL will be better. Taking folinic acid (2) 800mcgs tablets and B12 18mcg’s help to prevent inflammation and neurological including in relation to Lyme’s disease. I have a list of sources for the information. If you choose I could send the information to your email.
@annemarilyn Thank-you dear heart πŸ’›for posting. I have now added for your mid month weight.✨

    Day 21 – Tokyo, Japan – FD 81.4

Ended up working most of the night … it is actually a little rough this morning, not sure if I’ll make it through the FD. I’m too old to get by on short nights!

@steve – I hear you about internet fiction. It takes time to find reasonable sources. For example at first I thought Dr. Fung was just crazy and his writing style borders on fictional prose at times. However after months of reading and listening to his youtube talks I because to realize not only does he know what he is talking about but what he says actually works for me. However there is so much internet fictional fluff out there.

Day 21 NFD barely awake country West Australia
Didn’t get to sleep until after 2 am as head was buzzing after doing office work late. On second cup of coffee struggling to keep awake. It’s going to be a loooonnnnnggggggggg day. Plus I have to go to a funeral so feeling a bit below par.
@dykask – you and me both re late nights. Guessing we must be POCAs ( people of a certain age, and alas not the young side of 40!!)
@coda – you have made my day! I love your quote about ” What you think you become…”
    So
    1. I am thinking that I am bright, sparky, svelte and gorgeous , oh and only 25 again!
    2. I am a technological genius! Here I have been having all these negative thoughts about my computer and I have been attracting all that negative energy! So – Lots of zen thoughts about my computer and all will be well.
The family often laugh because they come into my office and see me with my clenched fists looking like I am going to punch my computer or imitating thrashing it with a branch like John Cleese did in that famous episode of Fawlty Towers. Showing my age I guess but I absolutely LOVED Fawlty Towers.
    😎

from Baltimore area in US. 4th month of fast diet – lost 16 pounds. On my second fast day of the week which is always easier for me than the first FD of the week. I am finding now that I am near my goals, that on my non fast days, I am eating more. I really need to watch the off days and not go over board. But tomorrow I am having shrimp no matter what….

    Good luck all…stick with it.

Day 20 FD St. Louis USA
The day is almost over. Finding fast days don’t leave be hungry. Long as I stay busy seems to work OK. Not sure how long I’m going to be doing three days a week, that includes back to back Monday and Tuesday. Having lunch with a friend tomorrow at a Greek restaurant. Will continue my practice of checking out the menu and calorie count ahead of time. It’s shocking to see the amount of calories in some of the foods we eat when we go out. Will do our weigh in tomorrow morning.

    Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
