    Day 5 second post

There was talk of soup recently, and I’ve been meaning to post this recipe; it’s one of our favorites and is super fast.

    Quick Chicken and Corn Chowder
    1 cup loose-pack frozen crinkle-cut carrots (I use all of a 12oz/340gr bag)
1/2 cup chopped onion (I put in more)
    2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour (I use GF for DS33’s sake)
1.5 cups milk (I use skim)
    16.5 oz can cream-style corn
    14.5 oz can chicken broth
12.5 oz can chunk-style chicken, not drained
    2oz jar diced pimiento, drained
    1/4 tsp pepper

In a large saucepan, cook and stir carrots and onion in butter until tender, about 5-10 minutes. Sprinkle flour over mixture, blend it together, then slowly stir in milk. Stir in corn, broth, chicken, pimiento, and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 3 minutes.

    Makes 4 servings
    353 calories
    14 g fat
    46 cholesterol
    35 carb
    24 protein
But keep in mind these number are based on an exact adherence to the recipe.

We truly adore this soup, and it’s done in about 35 minutes flat; I hope someone here learns to love it as we do!

    Day 6 NZ NFD 69.6kg🏃🏼‍♀️

The Melbourne Cup 🐎 is over, Guy Fawkes and the bonfire in the property below me have passed without incident and I wonder what today will bring??!!
My hope is for a peaceful American election… Coverage of the results start at 4pm here.
I have walked up our volcanic cone and am off to the Spinners and Weaver’s Guild now.
    Peace be with you

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Thin, MY Independent Property Investment currently sites Adelaide as being higher for median house prices (Nov 24) with Adelaide being $806,000 and Perth being $804,000. Medium regional house prices in SA are $560,000. I saw a house online in Wallaroo (a town half way between me and Adelaide) priced at $490,000 – a very old, very tiny cottage on a very tiny block of land with no views. The buyer was selling privately and I giggled to myself at the price – I think the seller is thinking they can cash in on the real estate boom and have set their price way above what it would actually sell for.

L Joyce on no your cats on 5:2, at least you have a fasting mate I guess.

Well let’s brace ourselves for the outcome of the US election, I understand we may have a result by bedtime tonight (Wednesday) Australian time. I was reading yesterday about the US voting system – wow, how can such a system be legal and just ? But then I guess when the courts have ruled in favour of Elon Musks election ploy for Trump and said it was legal then I guess legality and just goes out the window.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Morning all, weigh-in today was down 2 of the almost 4 kilos I piled on, my stomach is still feeling a bit blah after the eating of the previous week, so I’m guessing that’s the rest of the weight sitting there.

Turn, great to hear from you. Getting a little house up in Kaiteriteri sounds awesome, I love the beach over there, and the whole area. We’re looking at trying to get up to Nelson at the end of January. The family will hang in Nelson for the 3 days it takes me to ride the trail and then we’ll have a couple of days together in Nelson. But that will depend mainly on finances and whether we can actually find somewhere to stay.

Thin, I’ve seen part of Invictus, of course any NZ rugby fan will tell you there one major thing omitted from the film. The fact that the entire NZ team came down with food poisoning 2 days before the final, and many of the players were still horribly sick during the final. Jeff Wilson especially was constantly vomiting on the sideline.

Ljoyce, I know what you mean about erratic, I can go a while eating well, but as soon as I throw in some sugar or starchy processed carbs, it just goes to pieces. We grow potatoes, they do tie up a patch of garden for quite a while, but they are super productive while they’re there, and potatoes keep for a really long time. 30 plants usually provide us with enough potatoes to last a year.

Thin, we’re not quite as bad as Norway, but it can get pretty dark here in winter, especially down here in the South. Shortest day the sun doesn’t come up until about 8:30am and is gone by around 4:30 in the afternoon. On the flip side, I can be out playing sports until 10pm in the summer time, because although the sun goes down just after 9pm, it’s still light enough to do stuff for an hour or so afterwards. Same in the morning, the sun comes up around 5:45am, but it starts getting light around 5am

Well, have a great one everyone.

    Day 5 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD – 🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️
    Monday
    Sunday 🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️
    Saturday 🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️

My goal of three walks per day hasn’t been enthusiastically embraced in reality, LOL, but I’ll get there. I’m hopeful that I can work out a way to do two during my 2.5 hour break today, even as I run the errands I must accomplish, and then one when I get home tonight, all to remind myself I’m serious about this goal! 🤣

My weight is up–barely below 160. The thing is, I don’t understand why, in the same way I was a bit startled–pleased, but startled–that I was suddenly having such success over the last three weeks. So, who knows. The only thing I can do is meet each day’s goals, and I did meet yesterday’s goal of minimal eating, and will meat today’s goal of water only, and we’ll just see how the week plays out.

I just read all the posts, but as I was doing so I realized I had time to read and respond to a few, or read them all, so I chose the latter. It’s tough to miss a day or two, because it takes so long to get back on the chatter wagon, LOL!

I’m going to go get dressed, and then DH and I will walk up town–hmmm….that could be another 10 minute walk if we detour just a bit!–to vote and then I head off to Omaha to teach.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

    Day 5, London, UK, FD800

Feeling positive about this No Nonsense month!!💪🏼💪🏼

As usual I was MIA for the weekend, I did some major batch cooking to ensure FD800’s remain as 800cals! There are major changes afoot at work with a management takeover as the MD steps back a little bit, I hope it doesn’t change things …………………. At least until I can retire!!! I need to spend some time this weekend reassessing, a lottery win would really, really help with that!!🤣🤣🤣

@funshipfreddie, what a view!!! I can imagine sipping a lovely bold SA red whilst enjoying that view & watching the world slowly drift by!!! Thankfully, that view is a few 1000 miles away………… as is the SA red!!🤣🤣 Are you still AF despite the cherry LIQUERS????😳😲 National Candy Day??? ………………………..I despair, the battle to stay healthy is difficult enough without that madness!!! 🍬🍭🍡

What a cutie @merryapple, I’ve given up cat rescue duty having clambered over a fence into next doors blackberry bramble jungle last summer, where I got shredded and covered in blackberry juice, only to have Bo-Bo SAUNTER out unaided whilst I was entangled!!!! He literally walked by me with a haughty look of disdain on his face!!😡😡😡

Very true @excelsior12309 & @molij, cats very, very rarely actually get ‘stuck’ up a tree, they’re just attention seeking little devils!!!😻😻 That meowing was the ‘come look at me’ call thay have mastered @merryapple ……………………… cats ONLY meow at humans, clearly summoning their servants!! I understand there’s a robot designed for space exploration out there that’s based on cats, so it always lands the right way up!

Sending some healing vibes your hubby’s way @iona72, I hope all went well🙏🏼🙏🏼

Happy fasting folks, I’m slightly regretting my salad for lunch as it’s bloomin’ freezing here!!!🥶🥶 Bo-Bo and I will curl up on the sofa with soup (for me!) this evening so I can soothe him through the scary fireworks!!🙉

    Onwards & downwards folks!!

    Day 5 North Wales NFD

Very good fast day yesterday. Managed by eating soup to stay below 500 calories.

@brightonbelle you are right about giving myself time. I have always wanted to run before I could walk. My husband is very good at keeping me in check.

@funshipfreddie. We are very lucky where we live regarding Bonfire Night. It is still celebrated here and in built up areas it can be incredibly noisy. Our dog hates fireworks and luckily it’s quite quiet here. We still have to turn up the volume on the TV though.

@iona72 hope your husband makes a good recovery, a worrying time for you both and your family.

    Have a good day everyone

    Day 5 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Bonfire night 😱. Very much observed in our village @funshipfreddie. I dread it because a huge bonfire is built in the playing fields next to our house. The first year we moved here embers from the fire were carried by the breeze and landed on our roof, since then I spend every bonfire night fearing the house will catch fire. They really go over the top with fireworks too which terrify pets living nearby. So I always look forward to 6th November!

Yesterday’s FD was unremarkable. Hoping a couple of decent FDs a week will shift the excess holiday baggage. The jeans are no longer comfortably loose.

    Day 5 UK CD

Yes it’s still celebrated 🔥@funshipfreddie but as you say Halloween seems to be a big thing now , I guess Guy Fawkes etc is one of the few things just us brits celebrate, a small town near me – Lewes do an absolutely brilliant procession each year

Give yourself time @molij – it’s my anniversary of finishing chemo and it’s only now I can fully appreciate some of the stuff that was happening last year

Ha ha @merry🍎Always made me smile to think of Frank Spencer making it big in America

Thinking of you and DH @iona72 my DH has had I think 14 procedures now some big some small and they’ve all gone well so 🤞

Right must get on , see you on tomorrows list

    Day 5-No. VA USA-NFD
Well, something I ate yesterday made me soooo thirsty that I was drinking water all night, so I dodged the scale this morning. “A pint is a pound, the world round” one of my teachers used to say, so I imagine I am about three pounds heavier this morning than yesterday from water alone!
Thanks, @funshipfreddie, for the positive vibes regarding the election. We will survive as a republic, I imagine, but it feels very tumultuous. But I am not sure how much is the information overload we get from constant news and online stories, etc, which were not possible 50 years ago. I feel bombarded all the time, though I dodge most of it, to be honest. Not good for our mental health, I feel.
@merryapple, I like your description of “a disorganized start to the month”. That is it exactly!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

LJ, you’ve been busy. Sorry about the weight gain, but you’ll fix it soon.

Our winter mooring is at Market Harborough, Leicestershire, an ‘upmarket’ and historical market town that still feels English to me, unlike so much of England these days. Yes, the three of us are spending 16 days over Christmas at a large Georgian home on an acreage in Lincolnshire. The dogs are not our ideal breeds – a Hungarian Vizsla and a Jack Russell – but there are good walking tracks on the Viking Way.

I can’t wait to hear more of Turn’s tiny house. As we’re starting over from scratch, it seems prudent to research suitable places to settle. Perth seems increasingly unwise and it’s really only that 3c/m storage locker, now the cost of a small mortgage payment, that draws us back there.

Both from a climate change perspective and from ‘world happiness’ rankings, New Zealand features very highly. We’re also considering South Australia – is your house in the Adelaide Hills? I know GDSA reported last summer being unbearably hot and that housing prices are out of control in Adelaide – I’ve researched this and it’s nothing like what’s happening in Perth. Of course, many statistics come from realtors and I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw one. When we emigrated to Australia decades ago, we spent six months getting from California to Perth and would happily have settled in New Zealand or South Australia were it not for our small shipment of personal items already en route to Fremantle.

BTW, if anyone’s interested, Norway is the top of the list on both the indexes I’ve cited above. However, we can more or less already speak the language in NZ and it’s perhaps not quite so cold and dark!

  • Struggling with weight loss

I can relate to the struggle of weight loss, especially when work can be isolating and snacks are tempting. I used to work long hours too, and I found that keeping healthy snacks on hand helped me a lot. Maybe try packing some nuts or cut veggies to munch on during your shifts?

    Day 5 🎇🧨️ – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

It looks like it’s been pouring the whole night, it’s still raining & I have to go out in about an hour. I hate driving in the rain 😟

@at – 9 cherry chocolate liqueurs. ‘A whole box’ sounds positively gluttonous 😅 The 25th anniversary Phantom of The Opera film sounds like a treat! I saw Michael Crawford in ‘Barnum’ at the Manchester Opera House around ’84. It’s hard to believe he’s in his ’80’s now!

@merryapple – so true, the spreadsheet keeps us on our toes. And it takes just seconds to fill it in. I’m surprised more people don’t use it.

@iona72 – praying you & DH receive only good news today 🙏

@molij – that wasn’t a brief post yesterday! Ditto what @merryapple said – your posts can be as brief or as long as you wish. I think for some people it helps to get their thoughts down in a post, & some prefer to keep their posts succinct. I love chocolate & nuts too, but I’m not crazy about having them at the same time. Cadbury’s Rum & Raisin is more to my liking.

@merryapple – yes, THAT Michael Crawford, i.e. “I’m ‘avin’ a bit o’ trouble..” 🤣 I heard he did all his own stunts too! What a talent. I wonder if that’s ever been aired in the USA? Losing a filling is a small price to pay for a chewy caramel chocolate 😋

It’s ‘Bonfire Night’?! It was an exciting night when I was a kid in England. Is it still observed? Halloween seems to have replaced it here.

Sending positive vibes to our American friends today, for a peaceful & drama-free Election Day 🇺🇸 🗳

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Hello everyone. Lately I kept thinking that I needed to write a post but never seemed to get to it. I find when I don’t feel in control of my eating it’s incredibly difficult to write a post.
My eating has been unusually erratic lately and my weight is now up in the mid 80s as a consequence.

Apologies if I ask about something covered on previous pages, I’ve only caught up with posts on this page.

Anzac & Neil, you have my sympathy, I feel your pain on the weight gain. The scales bounce up so fast with a few difficult food days. I hope this week provides fewer challenges for you. I’m reminding myself that each day is a new start with new choices.

Cinque, the ulcers are fairly shocking news. Luckily we now know what causes them and how to treat them. I’m hoping your reflux issues might improve with ulcer treatment too.

Turn, wonderful news about the tiny home. They are fascinating structures. Luckily life in a caravan has given you lots of experience of living in a small space. I hope it helps you get the design right.

Thin, where are you heading for winter? Do you have house/pet sitting jobs this year? One of the nurses who comes to do my infusions is a New Zealander and she has been moving from one pet sit to another across Adelaide (with brief stays in AirBnB between).

G’Day, sorry to hear about the drain, what a horrendous cost. Frustrating that you’d just finished the landscaping too. I agree with Neil, it’s bad enough when you see what you’ve paid for, but worse when it’s buried underground.

I have been organising home improvements and have reached the inevitable conclusion that these things always cost more than I plan for. (Although I do have a habit of doing more than I originally planned, which doesn’t help.) However, I’ve now got new lighting, ceiling fans and a lot of additional power points installed. I’m already making good use of the fans. The solar system will be installed next week and the security screens for all the doors and front windows should be in next month. That’s all I can fit in this year. I’ll sort out the built-in storage and the verandah furniture next year – once I’ve had time to save a bit more.
These are some of the new lights & fan in the living room: https://imgur.com/a/R74YXuz

I have not managed to get my summer veggie beds sorted as I’m still harvesting the winter crop. I’ve been blanching and freezing some of the excess. The spinach and peas are finished, but I have lots of rhubarb, broad beans, parsnips and potatoes: https://imgur.com/a/TPdZjWA As usual I used soil that was too rich for the parsnips, so most have 2 or 3 roots instead of one. This was my first attempt at growing potatoes and, while successful, I wouldn’t do it again. It ties up a growing bed for a long time and produces far in excess of my needs. Although the summer/autumn veg will go in late, I will still grow some beans, cucumber, zucchini and spinach. I decided not to risk growing cherry tomatoes this year as I don’t want to introduce the brown rugose fruit virus to my veggie patch.

It’s not just me that needs to get their eating back on track. I finally did a detailed calorie calculation for all the things the cat eats to make sure I keep her in the weight range advised by the vet. I had to tweak a few things and she’s now complaining about the reduction in treats. I know how she feels!

I’m doing a FD today. OK so far. Take care everyone.

Day 4 NE England IF 16’8

I put on a pound at the weekend so now my target is 6 this month…..eek!
Standing on one leg to clean ones teeth is one of Michael Mosleys “Just One Thing” series, I try to remember each day but can’t get on board with the cold showers!

DH is having a procedure tomorrow for skin cancer so I’m feeling apprehensive. Hopefully straight forward and a speedy recovery.

@merryapple your reaction to 14 units is very much mine too! I’ve taken to sparkling mineral water in a fancy wine glass to fool myself.

  • No-Nonsense November

    Day 5 NZ NFD 69.3kg

One thing about using the sheet is that you realise if you have a wee bit of excess then reign yourself in, down you come. This can be more to do with what’s going on in my head – having the confidence to jump back on the wagon without chastising myself and letting my mood plummet which is when I keep up eating when I’m not hungry… Like I’ve said before the sheet keeps me honest but it also demonstrates that I can go up and come down. Who ever had the idea of setting it up, it works for me and for that I am very grateful.♥️
    @stitchincarol A morning coffee date 😘
@molij That’s a lovely long post!! You’ll get into the swing of things as you get back to feeling your usual self. And just do a wee post if that’s all you can manage!! Enough to keep in touch and support yourself 😊
I too love fair isle knitting. I have just started working on a border for a shawl because it is very light with short rows and wee needles – 72 border peaks x 10 rows. When I have finished these I pick up 359 stitches… It’s a bottom up knit!!
@excelsior12309 I used a ladder! Hmmm!! Interesting remark from the fireman!! That’s what my brother said too but listening to the cat 🐈 miaowing was going to drive me poco loco…
@northgeorgia Good choices = good numbers!!
@at Michael Crawford – Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em Michael Crawford ???🤣🤣🤣
After reading @funshipfreddie’s article about walking, I completely agree with you. Balance and walking well go hand in hand… (a grim metaphor for me in my current state☹️🤣)
@brightonbelle and @missybear I’m joining you on recouping from a disorderly start to the month!!
@missybear I’m assuming you had such fun in those country houses and pubs!!
@funshipfreddie I used to love chewy caramel chocolates but now I think I’m going to lose a filling… A butterscotch sweetie is a favourite.😋
@jaifaim Are you lurking?! Hope you had a good weekend 😘

Day 4 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

DH and I were out the door before 8 this morning in order to take his car in for an oil change; I also drove in so I could drive us to a lovely coffee shop we rarely have opportunity/inclination to frequent; we had a lovely time visiting and reading (I had a skinny late, so was virtuous), but it’s completely thrown off my usual morning routine, so I’m going to give up on any sort of a normal post today.

    Talk tomorrow!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Have some Guinness 😁 that will do the job. Been bowling this afternoon knees are knocking now😝. Been out twice with Chloe so one more to go. Walked 3.5 miles so far today. Not sure what to have for tea. Not had anything so far today.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Afternoon everyone, a very dull day here and not very warm either.
A lovely few days away and one day we were able to walk with bodywarmers on as it was nice and sunny with clear blue skies and hardly any sea breeze. We managed to walk just over sixteen miles whilst away and when I weighed myself on the first morning back home I’d gained half a pound which I blame on having an kit kat ice cream sundae but it was worth it.No more breaks away now until next year so really need to keep on top of my eating, however, were out for two lunches this week, one tomorrow and then our usual Wed’s. Will be using Geraldine both days to cycle to catch the bus.
Hemmy hope you’re enjoying Leamington Spa.
Jean hope all goes well for you tomorrow.
Dave no fireworks here so far, maybe they’ll be starting next weekend.
Liver and bacon casserole and baby potatoes for my evening meal need to get my iron levels up for blood doning next Monday.
Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.

    Day 4 North Wales FD

Weigh in 73kg I had got down to 70kg before I stopped due to my medical problems. It just shows how quickly the weight can go back on when you stop this way of life. I know I can continue to Fast twice a week but I will struggle to post every day. I am dreadful at letter writing too and I much prefer short texts. I am always in awe of how some of you manage to post such long posts.

@excelsior12309 I love the musical of the Phantom of the Opera.
We had a cat that fell out of a first floor window and it was ok. I read that In one study of 132 cats who fell from the windows of high-rise buildings, 90% survived although 37% of them needed veterinary treatment.

@brightonbelle hope you have a lovely holiday.

@missybear we meet again on here. It’s nice to see the same names popping up.

@funshipfreddie. I can resist candy but I do struggle when it’s chocolate covered nuts. I am very partial to Cadbury’s whole nut.

@merryapple, I like @at stand on one leg whilst cleaning my teeth. I cannot wait to start doing my Jo Wicks routine in the morning when my post opp regime allows me too. He too advocates standing on one leg.

@northgeorgia I am fascinated by your election and have been reading about it a lot over the last 6 months. I do hope it’s a peaceful election and the American people can live with the result after.

@iona72 I drink my wine in small glasses I think it helps me to drink less. I do love a glass of wine with a meal.

@stitchincarol I love Fair Isle sweaters. I am still sewing the toile for my daughter’s wedding in August. I found it difficult to concentrate on it after I had the results of my scan. I have only got one sleeve to insert and attach the bodice to the skirt and it will be finished. I have made a couple of outfits for my 6 month old granddaughter. A Halloween outfit and a first Christmas outfit consisting of a jumper and leggings.

Have a brilliant fast day everyone. No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow your progress is remember you are trying.

    Day 4 – USA/GA – ?

Weigh-in: 234 lbs. Still might be a FD, but my mom wants me to pick up something from a restaurant tonight. Haven’t made up my mind, but I’m going to treat it as a FD in any case. Yesterday went well; Thursday is a definite FD.

    Day 4-No. VA USA-FD 800

Busy weekend around the house, with lovely weather, but we really need some rain here; none since the first week in October.
@at, when my son (who is 41) was about 4 years old, we somehow got a tape of the old Lon Chaney Phantom of the Opera, and he would watch it over and over, waiting for the part where the Phantom first revealed his mask/face, and he would scream in delight. It was silent, of course, but very creepy.
@merryapple, you are very brave to climb a tree one-handed to rescue the cat. We called the fire department many years ago, when we lived in a little town in NC, to rescue a cat in a tree. They didn’t have equipment to go up as high as the cat was, and the fireman told us “We have never found a cat skeleton in a tree.” So maybe they find a way down, eventually?

Good morning everyone. Had Chloe all night next to me in the bed or should I say lay across it🤪 now she’s on the sofa next to me. Will take her out in a minute, just done breakfast for Denise. She said she still feels wobbly on her feet, not sure if she will go to Spanish lessons tomorrow. Wait and see. There were some loud bangs last night when I took Chloe out, she looked up to the sky then started sniffing the grass. It’s the only thing she’s not scared off🤣😂.I suppose she used to live outside so got used to it. Heidi was terrified but she was found roaming the streets in November so it was a blessing when she went deaf.

    Day 4 – UK – FD500
    Day 3 – NFD

    Sorry I missed posting yesterday

The 70th birthday party was great fun and my salad bowl went down well @iona72

@merryapple – I stand on one leg to brush my teeth changing legs morning and evening…..Am I a bit strange 🤣 but I have always felt that having good balance was important to help recover if tripping whilst out on my hikes and I suppose my yoga/pilates practice helps in this as stated by @brightonbelle
    @funshipfreddie – a whole box of Chocolate Cherry Liqueur…….😳

10 of us went to see a film of the 25th anniversary of The Phantom of the Opera – filmed at The Royal Albert Hall in 2011 – somehow I had not seen it this previously despite being a great fan – I saw Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the role in London a long time ago……..
Following the bows, Andrew Lloyd Webber delivers a speech to the audience before bringing out both the Royal Albert Hall and the original creative team, the original leads from the London and Broadway productions, and the original London cast, including Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. Brightman then sings “The Phantom of the Opera” with Colm Wilkinson, Anthony Warlow, Peter Jöback, and John Owen-Jones. Karimloo joins the four Phantoms in singing “The Music of the Night,” along with both casts and creative teams…….Brilliant!!

I feel in need of good FD so going for an old fashioned FD500 to RESET and joining the pocket list

Oh dear , I’m in the same boat @missybear and that just after a slightly indulgent weekend , fasting today and aiming for a great week as we head off on holiday Saturday

My November goal is to drop 3lb so I really can’t afford to be adding lbs at this stage

Thanks to my regular yoga my balance is pretty good and I can manage several minutes in tree pose – so nice to have some good news

    Day 4 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 71.3 kg 👀

It’s ‘National Candy Day’ today. So I don’t feel too badly about my Chocolate Cherry Liqueur binge on Saturday night; I was just getting a head start 😜
https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/candy-day/ Sunday’s FD was a doddle, despite being surrounded by food again at the afternoon card game. Including Chocolate Mint Thins?! They really know how to torment me 😳 My weight is slightly over my target; no surprise there. I was expecting it to be at least 72. I’m definitely battling a cold, but nothing life-threatening, & I feel better after a good night’s sleep.

@merryapple – 3 & a half minutes?! You’re going to live forever if you’re not careful 😅 Cute picture of the cat in the tree. I imagine he’s thinking, “put down the 🤬 phone & come and rescue me!” 🙀

@funshipfreddie That lovely view of the river must be worth at least a couple of scones!!🤣
    Liqueur chocolates👀 Really??!!
I’m just racing off to stand on one leg!!
I did L and R legs for 3 1/2 mins each. I stopped because the jug had boiled… so I guess that’s a pass too.
Lucky my balance is OK because I had to go up a ladder and rescue the neighbour’s cat with one hand in the weekend… He jumped from the cabbage tree onto the roof and was well and truly stuck. He’s male… all brawn and no brains 🤣
    https://i.imgur.com/PrsyKDu.jpeg
@northgeorgia A Christmas tree already??!!! I guess you need somewhere to put all those presents😂
@penz Have a lovely long relaxing weekend.
Great to have someone to inspire you!! I went to an exhibition at an institution and a guy 20 years my junior than me told me I looked so much younger!! Yeah!! So how come my weight went up🤔???? See below…
    @iona72. …14 units / wk, 3.2 units per 🍷 or 🍺 = 4 glasses per week… REALLY 😩 I don’t drink on my own but that’s 2 glasses per Friday and Saturday nights. If I’m driving I wouldn’t have more than two but if I’m not…🥳😱

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Turn, that’s so interesting! Well done for making a decision. Not easy with the passing of time, we find! I believe you will have the same square footage as our boat which is is 57′ x 6′ – albeit different dimensions. Will you still travel around or are you hanging that up once your tiny home is finished (I’m unsure of the terminology of a ‘pitch’ in a ‘Holiday Park’ – is that the site of the tiny home?). How long does it take to build one? Are you designing it from scratch or is it a choice of some ‘off the plan’ designs?

We watched an old DVD the other night called ‘Invictus’. It’s not the sort of thing I’m usually interested in as I’m no armchair sports fan but there are ‘libraries’ on the canals where boaters can swap DVDs and books. We found it enjoyable. It’s about Nelson Mandala (Morgan Freeman), the Springboks and the All Blacks. Maybe you, Neil and Suzy have seen it?

FD for me today. Chicken Jalfrezi, small but delish. I’m considering reverting to 5:2 for the month of November. I’d just like to get a kilo comfortably gone and there’s not much excuse now that we’re in one place and with about five supermarkets within walking distance – meaning I don’t have to plan ahead.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Afternoon!
Hemmy- you must miss your mum so much on a Sunday, I feel for you & Jean too, Sundays are funny old days to be on your own 🤗
Jean- glad you could read a bit & that the cat owners will be back. Poor Jacqui, straight back to work tomorrow & no time to sort the jet lag!
Dave- what roast is it today?
No fireworks here as the village fireworks show cancelled…much gossip about the cause, seems an admin error, given that the council pay an events organiser that’s not good! Hubby just spoke to some people when he was at the park with Xena who had driven over half an hour to see it, they were very disappointed!
Our wedding anniversary today, 34 years, doing a nice meal tonight & then a couple of nights away at the barns tomorrow til Wednesday, taking Xena …will be full on when we get back for a week or 2 with lots on…self catering so hopefully can stick to keto!

    Day 3 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 236 lbs. It’s been a while since I had a fasting Sunday. It should be easier today than normal since I am putting up the Christmas tree, lights, and decorations!!! Don’t worry. I have emergency fall decor I can bring out should I need to host an emergency Thanksgiving Haha!!

Plus, I have a feeling Tuesday is going to be a nerve wracking election day, so I may have to prepare myself in advance to avoid mindless emotional snacking. Maybe a nice soup at dinner…

Sniffling and sneezing not making an appearance this morning, although we think we picked up a 12 – 24 hr bug after eating at a restaurant and visiting my uncle yesterday. I told my mom I didn’t think it was food poisoning, as that is much more violent — I suspected we swiped something gross while cleaning up a little at my uncle’s room in the morning. I’ll check on her later this morning — so nice to get an extra hour of sleep over here last night after DST ended 🙂

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Hi Turn!
I’m minding the littlies tomorrow so just saying how lovely to see your post and I will write on Tuesday.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Good morning everyone. xxxx

It looks like a mild dry but dull day here today. I think we will have an earlier walk today.. if we go later we meet more people .. its lovely to chat but it soo extends the time out.

I am tired today .. so will just take it easy ..spent a good time in the garden yesterday..

Not sure on food today just had breakfast and Breakfast is quite filling.. feel very full. 2 small slices of banana on toast .. a satsuma … mixed nuts and a all milk coffee.

H H You are always so busy .. so nice your sons are in easy distance for visits… I bet your son was relieved to get through to the next stage of the interview.

Dave.. Chloe thinks she is now in the very best retirement home with people she loves so has hung up those fast moving legs. Bless her .

Sym… So glad you managed a read yesterday .. hopefully you can today too.

I kept thinking about your roast yesterday lolol I must do one for myself as I will get out of the habit of doing one. The last few times Kristy has been here we have been out.
When Mum was here weekends.. I made a Sunday roast every week .. I would plate us a dinner for Monday as well.. leave the gravy off.. Sometimes I thought it tastier the next day. lol

Enjoy your Sunday everyone.. “A Sunday well-spent brings a week of content.” Xxxx

    Day 3 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

Yesterday was a bust. I was invited in for scones & coffee when I picked up my chatty neighbour. But what a lovely location? His cousin’s house is overlooking the mouth of Bushman’s River, about 135 km from here https://imgur.com/a/h7apIQm
Then after dinner I opened a box of cherry liqueur chocolates someone gave me, intending to have just one. Or maybe two. And I scoffed all nine of them🤦‍♂️ Big reset today 🎯

    @at – 44 years? Congratulations! 🥂 🎉

    @merryapple – funny but gross! 😂🤢

@stitchincarol – I managed 80 seconds. I think I could’ve gone longer, but I was getting bored 😅 But a couple of my yoga postures involve standing on one leg, so I’m used to it 🧘‍♂️

    @northgeorgia, @iona72 – I’m also feeling a bit sniffly with a scratchy throat & didn’t have the best sleep. Hoping it’s just a 24 thing 🤞

    @penz – enjoy your mini-break 🚙

    Happy S🌞nday y’all

    Day 3, NFD, Aus

Thankyou @iona72, that’s exactly the kind of encouragement I need!

Had brunch with a GF today. She’s lost 20kg and is looking amazing. Really good to get my mojo firing again. But we’re off on a mini-vacay tomorrow wh I know will be three days of overindulgence!

Interesting article re the single leg stand. Whenever I’m waiting in a queue, I stand on one leg. I’ve always done it as a way to cure boredom so nice to know it’s also doing me some good!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Morning All…
Awake quite early this morning just having a cuppa in bed…

Still no signs of the cats.. they are arriving back home tomorrow they said Saturday but they got mixed up…I will be glad to pass it back to them.

Jacqui is on her way back from Texas they have had a lovely busy time land about 9.40.

    Nothing planned for me.

    Hemmy..
Nice to get glammed up, I usually do when I go out then fall back into dog walking clothes. 😂
My grass could maybe do with a trim not really long enough ??
I did managed to read yesterday I got the light right a few hours a bit of a break and a bit more…

    Hedgehog..
It’s lovely having the old cottages but they are built different, mum rented an old one the walls were 2’ thick it was warm but some could be damp.
Glad she liked the pots of plants you took.

    Dave..
Chloe could move in her time I don’t blame her taking life at a slow pace…cold beef tonight maybe with chips ???

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Well, it appears I have been missing in action for most of this year, I hadn’t realised it had been so long since I had posted although I am constantly reading all your posts.

Your post prompted me Thin, as you settle into your over- winter mooring. We are just finishing ours, we have spent most of the winter up in Kaiteriteri at the top of the South Island, and we have news. After much deliberation we have settled on a full time (permanent) pitch here at the Holiday Park and are having a new tiny home built! We were always looking for somewhere, pretty much like you Thin, with an impossible wish list, even with a Lotto win, so we had to make some compromise somewhere. We have always loved this location but we were previously only able to build a 3m x 10m home, if we wanted a larger home we would have had to sacrifice the location. When we finally arrived here in mid July, later than usual as we were house sitting in Methven for the whole of June, we were told that we could have a house at 12m x 4m. So it then became a win win situation and we no longer had to compromise on location or size of the build. We finally signed up with the builder on Friday and are now getting to grips with all the design details we have to go through! It feels very overwhelming, scary but exciting all at the same time. It will be interesting to see how it affects my weight?

My weight is currently in the 68’s, wanting to get it down a bit further before Xmas, so will see how I go. We have friends arriving from the UK to watch the Black Caps vs England five day cricket tests at both Christchurch and Wellington, so no doubt it will increase a little then. I must factor in some pretty strict fast days this trip.

Sorry to hear about your car/house problems Neil, and that you had to cancel your bike trip, but I can assure you the weather here last weekend was pretty horrific. Lovely sunny day here today though.

Got the sheets and towels pegged out, now time for a walk down to the beach and back before we watch the All Blacks game.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone, Turn

    Day 2 – NE England

Had a bit of a lazy weekend day. Although step count is 19,000+ it doesn’t feel like I’ve done so many.

@merryapple you asked about alcohol units, I just put what I drank into a tracking App and it calculates units. Yesterday a pint of 4% beer was 2.3 units. Today a large glass of 13% red wine was 3.2 units.

@stitchincarol I can’t believe I’ve lost 17 pounds either!! At first it was shock, I was worried about eating anything. I don’t know how much more I will aim for other than 5 pounds this month, then I’ll reassess.

@at that salad sounds like my kinda thing 😋

@penz I can recommend early retirement, I have never looked back, or missed work one bit, having a great time. It’s the one thing to thank Covid for, as I was furloughed from my job I realised I just didn’t want to go back and worked out a plan to leave asap!!

@northgeorgia also sneezing and sniffing here, hope we can shake it off quickly.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Chloe was retired at 4 she finished in the first 3 most of the time and won a lot of races. Her grandad actually won the British greyhound derby 2 years running so she’s from very good stock. I’ve never seen her run apart from a video of her winning a race on YouTube. Took her out and lots of fireworks going off but she was more interested in sniffing the wall.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Jean- wish we were nearby & could help you out! Hard to have to rely on others, neighbour asked if we could take her for her next hospital appointments, 10.30 & then 1pm, but it’s Mum’s birthday & we’re taking her out for lunch, Kevin felt bad saying no … Ellen was fine about it, but taxis so expensive! I hope you don’t have to wait too long for your cataract, it sounds horrible everything blurry 🤗
Dave- you’ll be sick of chilli! Spoke to a lady with her greyhound yesterday, hers runs if she gets the chance, not like Chloe! She was retired at 2, won half her races & lost half so the bookies didn’t like her, too unreliable apparently, so sad, not good when animals are just used to make money 😢
Hemmy- ooh, glad rags out for Leamington Spa! Yuk, honey in stew, wouldn’t fancy that 🤢 My grandad took up cooking when he retired but his was awful, weird concoctions & curry powder in everything!
Nana- hope you’re break was lovely!
Good news last night- youngest passed the interview stage & is through to the next round of the selection process for the fire service, practical assessment next weekend 🤞
Saw eldest & his gf today, their cottage is so chilly & damp but they had the wood burner going so that was nice! Had a lovely catch up with a friend on the phone this afternoon. Hubby eating chocolate tonight, first time that’s really tempted me, but did resist…
