  • Good Morning Everyone! Yesterday was a fasting day for me and I was successful this time πŸ™‚ Today I feel awesome Fasting days are sometimes tough but the next day I am amazed how refreshed and energized I feel. I went to bed last night craving food but I didn’t get up to eat and when I awoke this morning I wasn’t craving the apple pie that was in my fridge. I swear my teenage daughter is trying to sabotage me LOL.I am looking forward to today’s lunch- I made a ham and spinach wrap with red pepper hummas as dressing to replace the old mayo I always used to use! Thank you everyone for posting! It is encouraging to know we can all support each other.Vicki Remember you are the only one that can measure your self worth! Don’t try so hard to please others because you are the most important person and what you feel about yourself is what matters! Hang in there! We are here to support you

    Hi everyone.
I thought I’d join you all here as although I’ve fasted before, I’m starting again as of this week with a vengeance!

When I fasted before I lost 3 stone, but through a busy time at work (eating all the wrong food, and no exercise), I’ve managed to put 10 lbs back on! Since then, I have found it really hard to start fasting again, so…
Here we go! I’m doing 4:3 like before, and hoping to lose a few more stone by Christmas.

Everyone seems really lovely on here! I find it hugely motivational to read all your posts/progress and cheer along with you.
Happy fasting everyone πŸ™‚ Look forward to losing alongside you all!

    Tracey

Tracey, I re-started up 4:3 7 weeks ago after a 8 month break or so. Its so easy to get back into the swing of it and the weight continues to melt away. Good luck!

Thank for the food inspiration Mamamoo! Think I’m going to brainstorm some recipes so that I don’t get bored of my current seafood ratatouille concoction πŸ™‚

I’ve just come out of 4 pretty ‘heavy’ feed days so felt ready to tackle my fast day today! I experimented with having a teaspoon of coconut oil in my morning coffee and it’s something I’m going to try for my next few fast days to see if it can stabilise my energy levels for longer before dinner time.

Otherwise, still swimming here & there when I can , my knee seems to be coping with it!

    http://thefastingdoctor.wordpress.com/2014/08/06/fast-day-day-15-bulletproof-coffee/

So I’m just finishing my 3rd fast day today didn’t mean to fast but I only had about 200 calories until about 3 o clock so just thought I’d keep going was really hungry ther so just had a lettuce wrap with ham and pickled onions! Weighed myself in Tuesday and 3lbs down since Friday so happy with that even though I know it’s probably only water weight but any loss is good .. So I’ve fasted Monday and today does that mean I have feed days for the next 4 days :O can’t believe it! Loving all the tips! Thinking of doing 4:3 for next week as I have my birthday party Saturday, anybody find the 4:3 very tough?

Hi @gallysaz ! I did a 4:3 week last week & it was definitely manageable as could always tell myself that I had the next day if I really wanted to have something. I think I would possibly get ‘fasting fatigue’ if I stuck with it week after week but have seen some people with great results on the 4:3. Personally I will just pop in a few 4:3 weeks here & there schedule depending. Good luck!

Well I’ve just come back from seeing my doctor and what I thought was muscular pain from separated abdominal muscles after having my babies is in fact a problem with my stomach. He complimented me on my hard work losing 3 stone and my abdominal muscles are exceptional! But he told me not to fast anymore and I have to take some tablets for it. Bummer! I’ve only got another stone or so to go. Now to rethink what to do. I didn’t do well with ww and I get fed up with any diet after a couple of weeks. Do I just accept I can’t lose more or try something else?

    Mammamoo,

Obviously I don’t know what exactly your issue is but my other half has IBS (and is on medication for it)and so can’t fast. He has joined me on a modified diet (he did get the all clear from his doctor first) so he eats 3 meals a day plus snacks and has still managed to lose 15 lbs in 5 weeks to return to his ideal weight. He has porridge for breakfast, something light like cuppasoup or ryvita for lunch, & his evening meals are the same as mine so around 250 cals on my fast days, less than 500 cals on the other 3 week days and then weekends vary depending how good we are being! He is careful to make sure he keeps his fibre levels up as well as the 5 a day and he has found that a smaller meal in the evenings has suited his guts better. So maybe there is a modified option for you too? I hope so, you are so close now.

Hi Mamamoo, I’m guessing your problem is something to do with acid/reflux/gastritis? Indeed fasting can make this worse as your stomach will be unlined so the environment in your stomach will be pretty acidic & painful & at worse could lead to something more dangerous like a stomach ulcer which is bad news. Ultimately it is up to you, you know how your body feels, if you are getting lots of discomfort then your body is not happy & something needs to change. If you drink coffee/fizzy drinks/smoke/like spicy foods then try & stop. Good luck!

As for myself, a feed day today, am experimenting with healthy recipes in the kitchen which has been fun. Made this satay chicken quinoa dish for dinner, it was delish! ( http://thefastingdoctor.wordpress.com for my blog update & recipe). I do however need to clean my diet up. Whilst I like the odd treat this can often turn into the odd treat or two or three or… Going to tackle it once I get back on track with my fast day tomorrow!

Thank you Dotty P & luckylucy for your concern. The dr doesn’t know what is exactly wrong with me but suspects some kind of acid problem because I have IBS. I thought this was an odd diagnosis because I don’t suffer with heartburn or anything but he is very good so I trust his judgement. Perhaps it is inflammation I’m feeling. Carbs in large quantities do bloat me so I’m going to cut down big time. It’s all so frustrating because I don’t drink or smoke, I don’t eat processed food unless occasionally if I’m out, I mostly drink plain water plus one cup of tea in the morning and coffee a few times a week (not even any fruit squash), and I exercise most days. I will try a low carb approach (not to the extremes of Atkins or anything because I love fruit and oats!) and I’ll report back. Fingers crossed I can drop some more weight but if not, then at least I will be healthy.

Week one done – fasted 3 times to get a ‘kick start’. Am down 5.25 lbs of which 4.5 lbs came off after the fist day (water I am thinking) so despite that I am thinking there has actually been some ‘real’ loss over the week. Onwards and downwards he cried!

Congrats @silverfox, especially on doing a 4:3 on your first week!

Today was a fast day (day 17) – I felt pretty good. Especially when I realised that a dress that is normally snug was just comfortable. Hurrah! Definitely agree with @arobin1366 re: how great I feel the day after a fast day – a mixture of great satisfaction plus feeling energised & lighter! Experimenting more in the kitchen, & cooked up a really yummy dish of lime & soy tuna with egg fried ‘rice’ – recipe in the recipe section of the forum or on the blog. I will weigh in tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a good finish to their weeks!

    Hi everyone

It’s great to hear all your experiences. I’ve been doing the 5:2 diet for 6 weeks now (started at the beginning of July) and have so far managed to lose just over 6kg, so I’m rapt! However, I do have a lot to lose so that’s probably why I’ve made such a great start. I want to lose about 15 more kg over the next eight months, so hopefully that’s a realistic goal.

Am combining the 5:2 diet with pilates once a week and getting on the exercycle 4-5 times a week, and plotting my cycling distances on a big map in our kitchen showing the route of the Tour de France (where I average about 120Kms per week, much less than the professionals do in a day!). I do this each year and I find it really motivating and easy to do in the evenings before I go to bed.

Before becoming pregnant with my third child I lost 20kg with Weight Watchers, but I’m finding the 5:2 much less punitive than that regime and I am happier that my seven year old daughter can see me enjoying a less psychologically obsessive relationship with food, while still working toward being physically healthier. That’s got to be a good thing for both of us.

I’ve always eaten plenty of vegetables and fruit but been very overweight, and in the last 10 years I’ve given birth to three very large babies, which is a risk factor for diabetes, which is very sobering. So at the age of 43 I need to get going and focus on looking after myself more. After all, my three children are slender and sporty, and I’m well … ahem … not!

Anyway looking forward to sharing my journey with you from time to time. I am expecting my weekly weight loss to diminish gradually over time, but if I just gradually trend down I’ll be happy.

Keep those good news stories coming – I love reading about how you are all getting on, you are all so inspiring :o)

9 kg in 2 months and a bit and seems to be plateauing.
I started back in end of May, beginning of June. Start weight was 79kg. Lost about 6 kg in the first month then 1 week break for a holiday in July, gained 2 kg then lost further weight to now weigh 70kg. I have for past 3 weeks or so changed to 4:3, as I found 5:2 very easy. For past week I even started HIT, after a long long break from any exercise ( went to gym and then swimming). On non fast days, I keep to 1310 kcal a day ( myfitnesspal says that’s what I should do). I haven’t lost that much for past 2 weeks or so.. I think I am plateauing- is it because my metabolism has slowed down due to low calories on non fast days? I know I have only done 2 exercise sessions this week but seemed to have actually gained weight rather than lose weight! I am planning on continuing the exercise to get fit.
But the diet has been great. All my clothes seems to fit better and people do comment on how much I lost! But had to give up loads of things- no milk in my coffee/tea. Haven’t touched real rice/potatoe/bread for a while now. I have crazily weight every single thing I eat on a weighing scale- 17 g of chocolate does give you some relief :D.
What do you think I should do now? My goal would be to lose another 5 kg. I tried Addios ( bladder whack extract) before and thinking maybe with the exercise I could try green coffee bean extract? Do these even work…

Seung – I wouldn’t mess about with too many supplements tbh (especially coffee as it’s probably not a massively effective way of improving your health). If you have 5kg to go, and you have worked out that your 1310 Cals a day is maintaining your current weight, then you either need to drop to less than this, or add another fast day, or burn more calories through exercise.

Last day of week 4 today of 4:3/3:4, weigh in tomorrow but I think I have lost 12lbs so far. It seems to be settling at 2 lbs a week now, which gives me only 2 weeks to go to my goal (but I’ll reassess when I get there).

I’ve had a bit of an energy dip today (not unusual tbh), I think it’s because my diet is too carb heavy (especially today – impulsive decision to have cake for breakfast!) Now I’ve added some daily exercise into my life I think I need some more protein, but I don’t cook and don’t like meat much. I have ordered some protein whey milkshake (chocolate flavour) I thought I could have for breakfast. Anyone tried these? Are they good and do they taste nice?!

    Greetings!
I feel encouraged every time I come to this site; thanks everyone.

Kudos, @tombaron for getting back at it after a big break. It’s good to know that it is not necessarily difficult to do so!

I hope we can get used to adding 4:3 on occasion, @gallsaz. I tried it for the first time this past week. M & W were fine, but I gave in to an ice cream sandwich at 7 hours into Friday’s fast. I still patted myself on the back for Mon & Wed, however.

Why is it that one’s thoughts seem more ‘sane’ when fasting vs when ‘on a diet’? I want/need that mindset to continue! In fact, for the first time in *decades*, food is not hijacking my thoughts all day long. For me, this is a huge breakthrough! Like you, @luckylucy, I remind myself that I “have the next day.”

I, too, want to avoid ‘fasting fatigue’, so will toss in a 4:3 only once in a while. The numbers on the scale keep going down, so I must be doing something right. πŸ™‚

2fast2furious- thanks I will see what I can do about calories! I have bought one of those chocolate whey protein shakes few weeks ago- 80kcal a drink- but I am afraid it doesn’t taste that good- feels like drinking weird bits in water that’s not quite mixed.. But I do try having it once in a while to boost protein. You can try those ‘forgoodness shakes’ – think they have like 20g protein and actually tastes good- 245kcal I think! Or upbeat – 195kcal or something and contains 15-20g protein I think. They taste good too.
Has anyone tasted ‘wheyhey’ icecream? Does it taste good?

Oh no that doesn’t sound good! I like milkshakes, and I could probably live on slimfast – but even those I have to drink the ready made ones because they are lovely and mixed and smooth – the ones you mix yourself just aren’t the same! Oh well, it’s ordered now so I’ll give it a go. I’ll wait your verdict on the ice cream!

Welcome @pmhlb ! Sounds like you are doing great! mm an ice cream sandwich sounds great! Definitely glad you patted yourself on the back despite the little slip up, that’s the way to go, just get back on that wagon πŸ™‚

@seung I agree with @2fast2furious re: avoiding supplements. They are either dangerous or faddy or don’t work (otherwise why would people be overweight in the first place…). I have tried wheyey ice cream & they are yummy! I wouldn’t have them regularly in my diet (as they are processed etc.) but they are a nice treat (particularly the chocolate one)!

@2fast2furious what do you have normally for protein? Do you like eggs? Tofu? Chia seeds can be good mixed with smoothies or ‘chia seed pudding’ (but admittedly they are pricey… though probably the same as whey products). I guess those are the more ‘natural’ sources of protein but there are so many people who take whey so I’m sure you’ll be ok with it.

As for myself, my weight is the same (60kg, I’m 5ft 5) yet my measurements continue to decrease! I’ve lost just under 5 inches in the past 2 weeks (I only took measurements from week 1). I can notice a difference too with clothing etc. so it’s great. Break down of measurements on the blog: http://thefastingdoctor.wordpress.com/2014/08/10/day-19-fast-day-fry-up-well-yes-please/

Still staying active at the pool whilst I can…

& having fun experimenting with fast day meals. Today was a fry-up! Yes, a fry up! Recipe on the blog πŸ™‚

Happy fasting & new week to everyone!

    Hi all,
    Week 6 complete & here are the stats;
    Starting weight : 13 stone 08 lbs (BMI 33.7)
    Current weight : 12 stone 05 lbs (BMI 30.6)
    Loss in week 6 : 3 lbs
    Total loss : 17 lbs
So I am back on track to lose 21 lbs by the end of week 11. Woo hoo.
Did 4:3 last week for the first time & found it hard but effective so will definitely only use that when I need a boost. And I sure need those extra lost pounds in the bank as I have the dieters week from hell this week. We have guests staying until Thursday & then on Friday we are off to a family reunion weekend with a big party and lots of cocktails and cake. I think I will be lucky to maintain my weight this week let alone lose anything!
But I’ve worked out that 2 more pounds would mean I have lost 10% of my starting body weight so that’s definitely worth striving for.
Good luck everyone with your weigh ins

Hi, I started back in January and have lost 23 lbs. Once I experienced a few fast days, I became confident I could live through them. At first, just after a fast, I binged on my favorite non-healthy foods taking the “eat whatever you want on non-fast days” quite literally. I still lost about a pound per week, but then figured it was foolish to eat anything I wanted after going through the effort of fasting for 36 hours. So I did. Lately, I’ve noticed, that walking on fast days adds to the weight loss.

Also, I weigh myself every morning. Then I average the 7 daily weights into one at the end of the week. I tend to think that’s a better approach. So I’ve lost a little less than 1 # per week.

When I travel, which is about one week a month, I just eat normally and try to maintain the weight I left home with. So far so good.

Stick with it, it works. Eventually you get used to being hungry two days a week.
    I’m grateful for the system.

    Hi Jim,

I really like your idea of taking the average of your weights across the week – I think I may do the same though may weigh 3xs a week or something.

Also, thank you for your little word about eating non-healthy foods on a feed day. It is actually exactly what I needed to hear as I was thinking to myself (today, on a feed day, eating chocolate buttons & tiramisu) that it seems such a shame to put those 36 hours to ‘waste’. Plus I want to nourish my body the best I can. So, from tomorrow, I’m going to try & tackle this!

Am starting by trying to ‘healthify’ some of my favourite treats. Today I tackled ‘ice cream’ (well I made home made frozen yoghurt). Recipe is super easy ( http://thefastingdoctor.wordpress.com/2014/08/11/feed-day-day-20-my-favourite-healthy-treat/ for photos):

    Blend
    -1 cup frozen berries
-1/2 – 1 cup greek yoghurt (I use full fat)
    -1/2 frozen banana
-add toppings! today I had fresh strawberries & dark choc chips.

Happy fast day for anyone fasting today (I normally am). Might try & tackle a 4:3 this week but we’ll see.

By the way, has anyone tried consecutive day fasting when time is tight?

Lucky I do eat a little bit of meat occasionally, and I like baked beans and cheese! I tried a For Goodness Shake today – mmm delicious! Thanks for the suggestion Seung.

I have done consecutive day fasting – tbh it’s easier – you’re not that hungry the second day as you’re used to it. The harder thing is too many consecutive eating days, because you get used to that as well, haha! x

I did consecutive days the first 4 months. Then I went on Holiday and thought it was easier to do non consecutive days and realised I found it so much easier. I was always hungrier and felt weak on day 2. Plus I felt bloated on Sunday nights. And my weight fluctuated a lot more. But I’m happy it’s working for someone.

I liked the idea of getting the diet days out of the way. But it wasn’t for me.

Thanks 2fast2furious & FlemishCurves, I may give it a try Tues/Weds as am keen to do a 4:3 this week, so will see how I go. Think I would prefer not to do consecutive days but have to be flexible when time/plans restrict my options!

Hello, my husband and i have started fasting about 6 weeks ago and are becoming discouraged with the slow weight loss we are experiencing. He says he hasn’t lost any weight (needs to drop nearly 100 lb) and I have lost about 4 lbs of the 60 i’d like to shed. Any words of encouragement from anyone?

Hi DebraM, Like you I initially wanted a quicker way of losing weight until I sat and thought about how I got to being nearly 300lbs…. It has taken me nearly 50 years and my skin has adjusted to fit too. Over the years I tried everything and they all worked, my last diet took off nearly 100lb in 6months but my skin stayed baggy. A year later I put it all back on + some. I think the moral of the story is diets don’t work… They change your body temporarily and that’s all. For the last 10 years I ate what I wanted and never put on weight even though I was very heavy. The 5:2 diet has changed everything for me, I no longer fear hunger, I have discovered I don’t have to eat when I am not hungry and that if I am hungry its temporary not a life threatening experience! Important lessons to learn and exactly what my naturally thin friends experience. I don’t pass out for lack of sugar and I have naturally turned to healthier options after a fast day because after a fast my body rebels against high carb, high sugar and high fat foods…..first time I have experienced that! Keep going, embrace the lessons your body is learning and think of a year from now and the potential for a pound a week over that year. Good luck to you both x x

Good luck Dawn, me too. The book definitely helps recipes are very helpful and I’ve found them delicious, especially chicken stir fry YUM!
My recent results from bloods are showing a slight downward trend so on the right track keep with it I’m there with you xx :o)

Hi this is my third week on the 5:2 and have lost 5lbs so far, which I am pretty pleased with. Generally I have found the fast days not too bad, better if I keep myself busy at work. The hardest day so far was last Tuesday (although generally fast on Monday and Thursdays) as it was the first day of my monthlies and boy it was a tough day to get through, but did it. When I do feel I am missing out by not being able to eat, I just tell myself ‘I can eat tomorrow’, which is a great comfort.

I started 3 weeks ago lost 4 put on 4 lost 4 put an then lost 4 an put on 3.5 but I hav had a big birthday last week and had weekends away etc. So this week will show me wether it works or not do u do consecutive or day fast day eat etc.

This is the first week that the scales have shown a loss. I fast on a Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday, so not consecutive. I like fasting on a Monday as it make me feel better after the weekend!!

Hello all. I’m on my 4th week of fasting. After 3 weeks I’d lost 8 lbs, though whenever I diet I always lose more in the first week. My aim is to lose around 1 lb per week sustainably.

All my diets in the past have involved losing weight more quickly but as soon as I’ve reached target weight I’ve stopped and gone back to bad habits and the weight has crept back on. I’m hoping that this will be a change of lifestyle as much as a diet. I have massive issues with portion control and bingeing but have found that under control with the 5 2. So far at least.

Ideally I’d get down to target weight (about 2 stone away) and then move onto the 6 1 to try and maintain that weight, meaning I can have a naughty day and not feel too bad about it afterwards.

Anyway, I’m hoping that checking in here will help keep me motivated and it’s always nice to read about other peoples’ success as it helps me feel like I can do it too!

    Josie

Do people actually fast on fast day? I thought we were allowed to eat 500 kcal. I generally eat a boiled egg in the morning and some fruit then skip lunch then have a dinner around 300 kcal. Do you think that’s ok? As I am reading all the comments, I feel like people are actually eating nothing for like 36 hours. Now that would be hard!
I went to aqua- aerobics for the first time today, and I thought I was going to die! Middle aged ladies next to me didn’t seem to tire at all and I was embarrassed- Muscles are aching but I need to get fit! I felt like the HIT I was doing wasn’t really HIT at all, when compared to the aqua-aerobics I just did.
Only lost 0.2 kg this week, I have cut down calories to 1260 as the fitness app says on normal days for my target weight.
Consecutive days are ok, I did 2 days in a row before, and really get used to it- Even on non fast days, I seem to not want to eat much more now. It is hard when you start- I remember the crazy tantrums, and sleepiness that came in the evenings when I first started- and keep it up and you will see the results! My waist ( the thinnest bit above your belly button) was 33 inches when I started and now it is 28 inches and this is with just pure 5:2! My neck is thinner which is amazing- I have never seen my neck muscles before until now, necklaces actually fit and look better!

    @seung
I tend to stay between 150 and 350 kcal. I would do complete fasts but my mum is my fasting buddy and she would be really unhappy if oud biweekly meals would end. She really needs the communal feel of it and I enjoy it too.

So no, many of us actually eat on fast days.

Hi all, well despite being told not to fast I have still lost. Yesterday I had a gastro flare-up and accidentally fasted because I didn’t feel like eating! I’m now down to the next stone bracket and only 2lbs away from my previous lowest weight. I was aiming to reach that target by the end of the month so I think that is definitely achievable.

Hi all, I started the 5:2 about a month ago and I find the fasting days hard but I can get through them. My biggest problem are the non-fast days where I give in to cravings for chocolate, cakes, crisps, cheesy pastas and anything I can eat really. I just seem to have incredible cravings and my mind thinks ‘eat it because you can’t on Mondays and Thursdays’. Needless to say I’m not seeing huge weight loss. I’m 158cm and around 58kgs. I would like to be 53kgs. The other problem is my partner has a tendency to buy chocolate and chippies – so it’s there in the house at times and I just cave in.

Hi sueng, yes I eat on my fast days! I always start my day with a veg juice now including half an advocado which keeps me full and happy for a good few hours. I generally eat a tangerine and a miso soup for lunch and then a veg stir fry for dinner, I have lost 10lbs in 4 weeks so its working for me and I feel great

You guys have tangerines this time of year, @vicky65? That’s such a winter fruit to me it almost feels wrong eating them in summer.

    Hi everyone,

I started exactly a month ago on a 5:2 regime. To be honest I find that if I set my day out as a fast day it’s not too difficult. I have one meal in the day, usually around 6 or 7pm. I’ve also walked nearly every day for about 4 miles with my wife, who can eat and drink anything and never out on a pound! Lucky thing.

Non fast days are just normal, I don’t restrict myself, but I do the walking. I have found that I’m making healthier choices more naturally though and enjoying my food more. It might all be in the mind but it works for me.

I’m a bit anal about logging things so I took body measurements as well as weight and I had a blood test done to see what the effect on my (high) cholesterol would be.

    Here’s my stats
    Start date 13/7/14
    Weight 14 stone 2 pounds (I’m a 5 foot 9 male BTW)
    Waist 43 inches
    Hips 40.5 inches
    Neck 17 inches
    BMI 29.3

    Today 13/8/14
Weight 13 stone 3.5 pounds (Target is 11 stone 13.99999999 pounds)
    Waist 40.5 inches
    Hips 39.5 inches
    Neck 16.25 inches
    BMI 27.4

I’m really pleased so far and I’ve been to see my GP who supports the diet and has organised another blood test in early November. He seems as interested as I am to see if has an effect, I’ll post the results when I have them.

I found reading the book really helped too.

    Good luck everyone.

    Hello

I need to lose two stones..I’ve been on diet for two weeks and finding the fast days ok however…on the day after a fast I am ravenous!! I crave and crave…although I stay under my TDEE I still eat more than I used to and also more things I used to avoid like sugar and bread. I also suffered insomnia but that seems to be fading. Other side effects are tiredness and grumpiness!! Someone said that these side effects should begin to fade soon..is this true?

It’s been a month now and I have lost a stone. I feel great and I look great (in my own opinion)! I have 2 lbs to go to my target but I am going to start being a bit less strict with the food, but still carry on with the exercise which has really done amazing things for my body. I’m so pleased with the change to my waist – amazing. How is everyone else doing?

su51bfc – yes all the side effects do fade off over time as you get used to it, stick at it! x

chadwjim – well done, great results!

Hi everyone! Well it’s been an interesting 2 weeks. Had a major IBS flare-up (sorry if TMI) and I don’t know why I didn’t figure it before but I’ve worked out what my triggers are and why I always seem to flare up when dieting. Basically I am now eating a grain-free vegan diet and never felt better! And I’m also 2lb down this week which takes me to my previous lightest weight. With such a restricted diet, I’m way under TDEE every day so there’s no need to fast anymore (I was considering fasting again even though dr told me not to, as I’ve eliminated the need for the meds he prescribed). Anything I lose now is just gravy and I certainly don’t have any hurry to lose loads more as I’m comfortably into a size 10.

In 9 weeks (6 of those fasting) I have lost 1 stone (10.12 to 9.12) and lost 2.5 inches from the 3 body zones. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but with doing slimming world last winter I’ve lost a total of 3 stones since my son was born in May last year, which is 3 dress sizes. I’m over the moon to have my figure back and now on the right track to feeling healthier. Fasting has taught me how hunger really feels and that I don’t need to constantly snack to feel ok through the day. Becoming vegan has already taught me that the non-vegan food I was eating actually made me significantly hungrier!

Hi. This is my second week of fasting. Third fast day. I’m usually fine when my husbands at work (FIFO) but when ne’s home I really struggle because I’m the one that cooks dinner. He’s ok with what I’m doing but it’s harder for me to not eat as much when he’s eating. When it’s just me & DD5 it’s easier.

Although I still struggle I find I don’t feel as compelled to do house work in the evenings so I can distract myself with the internet/reading etc.

I’m hopeful this approach will be a great fit for me as I LOVE that I don’t have to be on a “diet”24/7.

I saw an earlier post in this thread where the poster said they weren’t going to weigh themselves again until they’d completed week 4. I think thats a great idea for me. Because if I don’t appear to lose weight in a one week period it’ll be easy for me to say to myself “Screw it” πŸ˜›

I love reading about everyone’s wins and obstacles. Thanks folks x

HI everyone, well that’s me into my fifth week of fasting and its going really well. I have lost 10lbs so far and hopefully another pound or two on Wednesday when I do my fifth weigh in. I prefer to weigh quite regularly and especially after a fast day. The last two fast days (yesterday and last Friday) I weighed myself the morning after and each of those days I had lost a pound but I never get complacent as other fast days I have lost nothing!

These fast days now seem to spring on me… because I also invested in a good juicer I now juice every morning as a breakfast replacement and even though the juice I make works out at about 300 calories (I always put half an avocado to keep me fuller longer) I love the health benefits and the way I feel when I juice. If I get to lunchtime and I am coping OK I will decide then to fast for the rest of the day.

Friday was a challenge with a social event but I was so proud of myself for sitting with my friends all eating chips and onion rings (my fav!) and not touching even one! NEVER thought I would be able to do that!

This diet is so much less challenging than others as the idea of “tomorrow is another day” when I can eat whatever (within reason) stops me feeling miserable about food! I LOVE food, I love butter! I love cooking and so diets in the past are just torture! I have a long weigh to go; I am aiming for 40 pounds in a year and I have about 100 pounds to lose but this is simply the best food plan I have ever undertaken so onwards and downwards for me!

Good luck to all of you; you are all truly inspirational, Thank you x

I’ve been on the 5:2 since 12 July, and I’ve just stopped losing any weight after 4 weeks, and in fact I’ve put weight on.

Anyone else in a similar situation??

    This is REALLY disheartening……

    BookishCat,
I started on 29th May and lost 9.6 kg so far- however past 2 weeks I have been hardly losing weight which is very depressing!
But I have been keeping the feed day food to 1310 and for past 2 weeks to 1260 and 4:3 for past 4 weeks or so. It says I have calorie deficit of 2900 a week!
I don’t know why- maybe my metabolisms really slowed down?
Well I suggest for you to maybe keep your feed day calorie down and see and maybe if you can to change to 4:3. Also keep a diary of everything you eat and weigh everything- you will be surprised to know how much stuff weighs.

    Hi everyone
This is week 7 for me and I didnt’ expect to loose anything having been on just about all diets (inc pills) and it not working. My Dr took my weight at the start and today was weigh in day. I HAVE LOST 2kgs. For me its great news. I haven’t been able to exercise because of my disability but I have tried to do as much walking as I can (which isn’t much) I hope that this carries on. I will be posting again in about 1 months time lets hope its another downward trend. πŸ˜€

Wow lady lavender!! That’s fantastic. So pleased for you!

Well, after 2 weeks of being back on the wagon, I’ve finally settled back in. Tombaron you were right! Much easier than I expected. I no longer feel like I’m depriving myself on fast days, and I have stopped wanting to binge on non-fast days! The only twinge I get is late in the evening of a non fast day, knowing I won’t be getting up and having breakfast the next day! This is still a strange thought for me – since I was about 15, I never ate breakfast at all. And now I look forward to it!

Now I need to get back to consistently exercising. I’ve just got a swimming MP3 player which I’m excited about using!

    Happy fasting everyone πŸ™‚

2fast2furious & Mamamoo & Lady Lavender congratulations!! You are all doing great & are inspiring me to continue πŸ™‚

Vicky65 I also enjoyed reading your comment about juicing as a morning (primarily green to reduce cals) juice is something I would consider on a fast day for breakfast… still need to get a juicer first though!

I am doing O.K. Lost a lb last week (but I find the scales can vary so much day to day anyway so we’ll see if it sticks πŸ˜‰ ) & will take some measurements soon. Had a hard fast day today but definitely think it was after a day of indulgence yesterday so I was feeling very hungry!! Glad to be on track this week (hopefully for a 4:3).

I’ve updated my blog with more progress pics – can see them in the Before & After section of this website or here:

(not as dramatic as week 2 but I find posting them keeps me accountable)

    Happy Monday y’all!
