  • Day 6, Emden Germany, NFD

@basyjames thinking about you, any results yet?

    @bert1802 hope you are safe.

    Take care everyone!

    Day 6, Gozo, Malta, fd

Today I’m fasting again and it’s my last B2B2B. However I’m going a little over 800 calories more near 900 calories but I’m still proud of myself and my control. Tomorrow I’ll weigh for this week. Last week I was 78.2 kilos I’ll see how much I’ve lost. I’m not a exercising much though.

Rahul1905 I’ve found out that the best thing To do to keep regular is to eat dried prunes and drink plenty of water.

Prayers for those in hurricane irmas way.

    Onwards and downwards

    Day 6, USA (Florida!!), NFD

Nice controlled day so far; had a Greek grilled chicken salad and turned down the accompanying pita bread. I’m not going to be fanatical about avoiding wheat but want to give it a good go for a while to see if I feel any different.

I think we’ll be hitting the road north tomorrow unless something miraculous happens overnight re Irma. I am giving myself permission to temporarily suspend 5:2 if life gets in the way over the next few days, but we’ll see how we go.

There seems to be a lot of natural disasters around at the moment (to say nothing of all the man-made ones) so, everyone, stay safe and look after you and yours.

2nd post – lovely lasagna for tea, but easily 700-800 calories on its own which blows the fast day. I did give in mid afternoon and have some fruit and yoghurt too, so going to call this a controlled day and go again tomorrow. August had so little control I am going to allow myself as many attempts as it takes to get a good fast day. I am however resolved not to let small extravagances lead into massively over indulgent feast days this month (at least not for the rest of this month, the first few days were a write off).

    Day 6 North Wales NFD

Amazing weight loss in the August challenge. Thank you @debster251

@penz well done for only having one glass of wine. If that had been in my house it would have been calling to me all evening 😂

@happymargo I always eat the same meal as my husband, just a smaller portion. I do not eat the bread or pasta. I do the same when I go to my daughters for the week. My daughter doesn’t know I am doing the 5:2 and never notices that I am eating less than all of them.

@at it must be so stressful for those who are working full time and dealing with sick elderly parents.

Looking forward to fasting tomorrow. Off on my travels again to visit my two daughters for 10 days. It will be a challenge at times to stick to the WOL but I am going to do my very best 💪💪💪💪💪💪

Second post. Need to drink more. I have not drunk enough 💦💦💦 the last two days.

@ Pens- stay safe, thinking of you there… did see another model of Irma’s track today online, they were predicting it missing most of Florida and making landfall in the Carolinas.
Day3 for me, FD, have survived- might do a sneaky weigh in tomorrow to give me as boost.
Does anyone do FDs on the weekend?

    Day 6–ABQ–NFD

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

    Day 6, MA, USA–FD
Finally feel like I’m back in the swing of this WOL. Hope that I can stay consistent. The scale is starting to creep down again, after a summer where it went up and up! Being back at work helps because I’m busy and can’t just mindlessly munch all day. I’m planning to do one more fast day tomorrow, bringing it to 4 for the week, then taking Friday and Saturday off.

Hope all affected by Irma are staying safe. You are in our thoughts.

Day 6 – SW WA USA – FD

Hopefully Irma will not be doing to much damage @bert & @penz and anybody else in possible harms way.

The big fire along the Columbia Gorge on the Oregon side (@Wilson) has jumped the mighty river to the Washington side as well. It’s 40 miles or less from where I live. As @wilson mentioned it’s due to careless & perhaps purposeful use of fireworks. Pretty sad. Praying for a gentle rain here.

    Day 7/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Yesterday’s NFD is best forgotten 🍷🍷🍞🍞🧀🧀☹️

    @basyjames – thiinking of you
@penz and @bert stay safe. Thoughts are with those already in its path.
@pamie I do hope your OH recovers soon.
@annemarilyn thinking of you also and those in the path of the fires. We’re expecting a severe fire season also.

@dykask couldn’t agree more. There is too much contradictory, misleading and in some cases dangerous misinformation on nutrition on the web. The more I study and read, the more I’m convinced we should learn to understand our own body and how it functions. Not always an easy task after years of overeating and the advent of junk food. We are all unique with our own unique genetic composition and gut flora. What works for one may not work for another. My advice is to read with a degree of scepticism there are too many ‘convincing gurus’ out there.

@at that 70 mls was delicious. The too many glasses were not. Back on the wagon today.

    Stay safe everyone

Day 6, Rocky Mountains, US, FD

Back home. Need to catch up with posts.
Mini vacation was great, 1.1 pounds gain. Hopefully muscles with all my hiking.

Hope everybody is doing fine. Looking forward to reading all the posts! 😊😊😊

    Day 7 waikato
Still deciding whether today will be b2b fast. Good rd yesterday and so far haven’t eaten so will keep going as long as I can. Thankyou for the best wishes for OH. He seems to be getting a little better day by day. Have just read DR Mosley’s Clever guts diet. Very interesting. Has anyone else read it? Have a successful day people ☺

    Day 6 Portland, OR, NFD

Just a note to let the Florida fasters know I’m keeping them and all their neighbors in my thoughts. And to my fellow Pacific Northwesterners… fingers crossed for even just a little bit of drizzle to help with the terrible forest fires.
    Be safe everyone!

    Day 7 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 82.6kg

Well my current major problem is lack of sleep. That one I can truthfully blame on my teenagers. At least that is a self correcting problem at some point.

On Saturday I head to China. I’m going to try to go easy on meat and focus more on vegetables. I’m not of fan of Chinese breads so I might end up eating very light for breakfast. Also in China rice is often served near the end of the meal, so I’ll probably avoid too much of it, although I really do enjoy rice sometimes. When I get back it will still be a couple days before I fast because it will just be me and my 13 year old daughter for the weekend. She would be a vegan if I let her but in general she loves to eat and I’m not going to inhibit her eating as she is on the low side of normal weight.

    Day6, Guildford UK, CFD

Was supposed to be an FD, 500 cals but ended up a CFD 1200 cals as client provided lunch. Did my best to avoid food. No wine as I am driving.

This is tough at the moment.

    Mari

Day 7 FD country West Australia 75 kgs
scales definitely headed in the wrong direction. Must remember the motto is onwards and DOWNWARDS not onwards and upwards.
yesterday’s FD turned into a NFD after a walk after work and dinner with a colleague.
Thought the roast with steamed vegetables would be a good option. There was enough to almost feed 2 people – and I ate the lot!!
Reminds me that I need a portion size reset.

    Day 6– 3rd post

@jessyoursize – they’re building La Madeline French bakery just a mile & half from my house. I’d assumed that since I can’t eat wheat/ gluten due to my Crohn’s disease I’d have to avoid that place like the plague…Nice to hear they have healthy salads on offer. I may just go in & take a peek once open for business!

@bert1802 and @penz and all our Florida friends — I hope Irma takes a turn & you all remain safe!! I lived in Florida for 12 years before moving to Colorado. Was actually in Kendall/ Miami for Hurricane Andrew. It was devastating; don’t wish that on anyone! Take precautions. I’m praying for the best.

@basyjames – hope you receive good news & clean bill of health soon! ((Hugs))

2nd post – After breakfast and drinking multiple glasses of water and some coffee my weight is down 1.9kg to 80.7. There was a 6km hard run in there too and some pull-ups. 😉

More studying about protein. While excessive protein typically does help lose fat, some proteins in excess have been shown to promote cancer. (Casein is one of them, actually there are 4 different types of casein protein in diary.) There are also protective fats in diary too, so it is very complex. At the same time there doesn’t seem to be evidence that protein up to the level our body uses does any harm. Too little protein is very harmful but few of us are faced with that issue.

    Protein is over consumed for
    * weight loss diet
    * trying to build more muscle generally taking supplements
    * or because we eat too much processed foods

It also appears that amount of protein needed every day is very low and the body adjusts to converting higher levels of protein to glucose. While there can be more protein synthesis in muscles, it a acute and not actually proven to promote muscle mass gains. (Acute basically means, temporary as around 90 minutes in this case.)

So I’m still in the mindset that we should be consuming around 50g to 100g of protein a day depending on how much lean body mass we have and how much we are using. I know for a fact that those levels of protein don’t prevent muscle growth. I’m thinking that the people consuming double, triple or even more than those levels might be playing with fire.

    What a lame article! http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/weightloss/12-best-bedtime-foods-for-weight-loss

Right burn fat by eating! People love pipedreams.

Day 6 NFD St. Louis USA

    Day 7, India, FD

Sorry my link doesn’t work. Typical of MSN. I rarely read something there that I’m impressed with. It is one of the worst places to go for good nutritional information.

I just found it funny that something thinks you can burn more fat by eating before you go to sleep. It is amazing what people will believe.

Anyway maybe this link will work: http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/weightloss/12-best-bedtime-foods-for-weight-loss/ss-AAo7D9M?ocid=spartanntp#image=1

For the record I often go to bed a little hungry. It used to brother me on fast days, not on NFDs, but turns out I got used to it. At some point sleep is more important than food. I can’t recall a single time I actually woke with more hunger than when I went to bed. Even though I’m a big breakfast eater, I’ve normally been up a couple hours before I eat breakfast. Waking up hungry hasn’t been an issue. Eating too much has been an issue though.

    Day 7, Norway, FD

This is my second FD this week… but i still dont feel that i’ve been a good girl in September so far. Still a lot more days to turn it aroundt though.
Yesterday was my father-in-law’s birthday…and i ate 2 slices of chocolate cake and one slice of marsipan-cake (bløtkake)…and i felt really bad afterwards…. i put all my food into my Lifesum app (love it)… but since i dont eat out of habbit or because the clock is a certain time, or its “normal” etc…i “only” overate by 210kcals in total…had skipped breakfast and my lunch was really small, and my dinner was controlled.

@coda thanks for the tip about contacting the forums IT service 🙂

This morning i made a coconutmilk (light version with 68kcals/100gr) with chili and lean pork…so around 150kcals for lunch..just because i’ve not felt good the past FD’s…especially my headaches… also i brought a 1,5liter bottle of sparkling water (Bris) with Mango/Papaya.. ZERO kcals 🙂

    Day 7 | Sydney Australia | NFD

After spending 2 weeks in Thailand and eating a lot of wonderful food (no way was I going to even try to watch my diet in Thailand) I’ve been back 3 or 4 days and just easing myself back into the idea of fasting.

4:13 pm now and I haven’t eaten yet today. Unfortunately work is providing KFC this afternoon and I’m not going to say “no”.

I will fast tomorrow. Over the weekend I’m going to be cooking a couple of Thai dishes that I learned on my trip, so I doubt I’ll be able to slip another fasting day in there.

While I’m about the same weight as I was when I left (give or take a kilo or two) my pants are looser and I’m just about ready to come in another notch on my belt. I’m looking forward to getting right back into fasting 3 days per week and I’m looking forward to cooking up some interesting food on my NFDs.

    Day 7, UK, FD

DAY 6 – UK – NFD Sorry no post – busy day looking after granddaughter who doesn’t start school til next week

DAY 7- UK-NFD (But I’m hoping this might turn into a FD! Off with friends to Garden Show at Wisley.

Day Seven Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 NFD.

    Day 7, Northumberland UK, FD

Attempt number 3 at a fast day. Previous 2 failures have stayed controlled and under TDEE, which is a minimum for today.

    Day 7, Gozo, Malta, nfd

I weighed this morning and I’m 66.8 kilos down by 1.4 kilos from last week. I’m almost the weight I was before I left for a cruise on 27 July. I’d like to be 63 kilos. My bmi will be healthy at 66 kilos.

Today I had three prunes plus coffee with milk for breakfast and I’m having baked onions and eggplant with canned tuna fish, olives, bread and olive oil. I’ll have to watch my bread intake.

I pray and hope that hurricane Irma doesn’t harm anyone especially those in our forum/ challenge.

Have a great Thursday everyone. Onwards and downwards

    Day 7 – France – FD

@bert and @penz Thinking of you, stay safe

@basyjames Big hugs to you, sending you positive vibes

@at Thanks for the additional course ideas, will have a look

@rahul1905 I have to watch my transit too (result of having twins). Drink loads, eat loads of veg and I find that the ayurvedic treatment Triphala helps a lot (recommended in Dr M’s Clever Guts)

Hope you all have a happy day x

    Day 7 Belfast FD 🐢🍷🗡💪16:8.
Had a good CD yesterday, but am feeling bloated and the scales are up a 1lb from the beginning of the month. Hopefully today’s FD get rid of that.
    @basyjames 🤞thinking of you.
@penz and @bert I’m sitting watching the devastation on TV. I can’t imagine how you feel waiting to see whether it comes your way. Stay safe.
    @rainbowsmile – we’re there for you
@maayyaa – a little indulgence sometimes is fine. Glad you enjoyed the moment.
@big_bill – well done on coming back from your holiday a long title trimmer and with no added baggage!

Am starting a pocket list – add your name if you are fasting today.

    Day 7 UK NFD

Hello day 7 NFD Co Down NI

Fast day went good yesterday and once again played squash we only managed 4 games in the time we had (40 mins). When we started we played 8 so we are getting fitter and better. 3 games to 1 to OH. We have 2 more sessions before I am off my feet for a while 🙁

I am attending a handstand class on Friday lol – always wanted to be able to do handstands not that I will be able to do them after one class but I am hoping they will give me exercises to do to strengthen my arms and tips on how to begin, so that maybe one day I just may or give a good attempt at one. This will be after a spa and afternoon tea with an ex colleague as a birthday present for me. Need to use it before my op or it may be a while after the op before I have another chance. Looking forward to it

I am going to set mini goals so as my starting weight last week was 11.7 (161 lbs) my first mini goal is 11.5 (159 lbs) hoping with mini goals rather than a end of month goal I will keep focused a bit better.

I don’t think I will complain about our weather here again – hope everyone is safe.

@rahul1905 – some here swear by an apple a day keeps them regular.

@imrenfrey – I found that when I was having trouble sticking to fasting days – rather than keep trying day after day. I decided I would have a good healthy meals NF day drawing a line under unsuccessful fast days. Plan meals that you really looked forward to and with renewed spirit I tried the next day and for me it worked – along with stating here I would confess all.

    Day 7 – UK – FD

I am finally back at my lowest weight from last week, I need to figure out how to handle the weekends as I dispose of a few more kgs, they are definitely my weakness.

Everyday day/meal is an opportunity for us to practise making the right choice. Until we do it without thinking.

@at loved your closing quote on yesterdays post:
Don’t start you day with the broken pieces of yesterday.
Every day is a fresh start.
Each day is a new beginning.
Every morning we wake up is the first day of our new life”

Pocket list today – add your name if you are fasting today.

    Happy Fasting everyone 😊

    Day 7 London FD

After several weeks of swerving carbs and sugar, went to an event in Kew Gardens last night and had four massive cheese straw things. It was that or crisps. Not exactly a helpful selection. Anyway, went to bed and felt awful. FD today. Thank goodness.

Day 7, London UK, FD (3rd of B2B2B)

So we’re now a group of 6, @happymargo, welcome to the desert!! Thanks @coda. If today doesn’t happen, then I’ll be planning some controlled NFD through into next week. At least now I’m getting back into normal routine I am managing to check in daily again which is making me think about it more. Summer holidays have been too adhoc on the meal planning front.

Day 7 – UAE – FD (last day of 4 day b2bs FD)

    Quick check-in

    Day 7………Florida……..FD

Pretty good food wise day, I was within 800 calories. I did end up eating another ding dong but I’m pretty sure it’s just my nerves getting the best of me.

Thank you everyone for you prayers and concerns. They’ve started to evacuate the lower half of the state where a direct hit is more than likely to happen. People are crazy, lines as long as city blocks waiting to get gas, no water, no bread. Absolutely, bizar reactions of people lately.
Last night, we ended up turning our garage fridge on, only to freeze as much water and get as much ice as we can. Ugg! I hate running that thing!

@dyskak……. I have a friend who is big time into lean proteins. I always though she over does it with them but it here WOL. Anyways……. she always starts her conversations with…..Have you had your protein today?

Okay, well I’m off. I need to hop over to the car insurance site and double check our coverage!

My husband told me to stop acting like a flamingo, so I had to put my foot down!

    Day 7– Colorado USA- NFD

Many thanks to this thread! You might not know it, but you saved me twice yesterday.

On my way to work yesterday, my car so badly wanted to steer itself into the McDonald’s drive-thru for a sausage-egg-cheese McMuffin, hash browns & Diet Coke. Oh my!! 😳 All those dreadful sugars, chemicals, sodium, etc. 🤢 Yuck (but yum?)

Luckily, I had a stern conversation with my car (& myself) about the calories, lack of nutrition in that meal, including the addictive clutches of Diet Coke (which I’ve recently broken free of!) The one argument that won the day & kept my car on the correct path to work? That I’d have to log on here & admit I’d broken my Fast for McD’s fast food. The shame!!
    Proof this supportive thread works!

Then last night after a long day of work, I changed into comfy lounging clothes & joined my OH in kitchen as he cooked dinner. The chef was sipping red wine and I very nearly, quite reflexively, reached for the bottle to pour a glass for myself too🍷. Yikes!
Recalled my September Dry-Winos pledge & poured myself a sparkling fizzy water instead. YESssss.

So you guys saved me TWICE yesterday! 😃 Many thanks!!

    Day 7 – Woking, UK – NFD
    Day 6 – Munich, Germany – NFD
    242lbs

So back from my trip and not too disastrous in the end. Ended up on 1171 cals on Tuesday and 965 yesterday – so not a fast day, but fairly controlled both days. Scales are up this morning which I know is water weight from flying because my body fat % on my fitbit scales dropped 3% since yesterday which is always a sign I’m hanging on to water. Will be drinking lots today and hopefully I can hit that under 17st mark next week.

    Day 7 – Reykjavik – FD

This day has been quite good so far (only noon when this is written), but I´m struggling somewhat with my mind. The FD have still not clicked into autopilot for me. But hey it’s only the third FD and hopefully it will become a natural state of mind soon. I´ve experienced that the day after fasting with Controlled NFD has a tendency to be as difficult as the FD. Cold hands (fingers), lack of concentration and hunger pains.
And a note to self; Stop eating pork. I had a pulled pork sandwich the other day and swallowed up immediately and it took me 2 days to recover.
But my food diet is generally good – so hopefully it will show on the scale.
    Keep fighting all!

    Day 7 UK FD

So.. Day 6 collapsed into a feast at 8.30pm. Pizza, Peanuts and Guinness! Wonderful! Shameful! 🙂

At least it was after 1 hour running around playing football (soccer in US speak) which was fantastic. And the only reason I can still do that with my old knees is because of the 5:2 loss made in the past 12 months.

Sometimes it’s good to give in. Willpower is a limited mental commodity. Two good fast days completed this week. I will do another today and one tomorrow. 4 out of 5 isn’t bad.

Take care fasters. It’s a carb filled world we live in. Enjoy it and don’t beat yourself up if you have a bad one. This is a marathin 🙂

    Day 7 USA -WA FD
My thoughts and prayers are with those in Florida, as well as those who have evacuated. It is, indeed scary stuff.

I am really noticing the impact of the terrible air in my body today. Woke up really congested and with a headache. Going to see if I can flush some of it out of my system with a lot of water. I know that eating on the light side will actually make me feel better, so a FD will help.

    Have a healthy day, everyone!

Day 7 Akron OH, 3rd of B2B2B2B FD.
I am so happy to report that the docs found a bunch of cysts and nothing more. Thank you for all the hugs and well wishes, I felt the warmth all the way in Akron Ohio. The plan is to keep a close eye on things for the next little while, so more testing in a few months but I will take it; Nothing like a health scare to keep things in perspective!
Normally I would eat everything in sight either to ease my anxiety or to celebrate (any excuse) but because I was in the middle of my B2B fasts, I lovingly whipped out my list of fellow pocket fasters and soldiered on; there was even a box of assorted donut holes in the office kitchen, just begging to be devoured…I glanced at it a couple times and moved on; still can’t believe it myself.
My prayers and thoughts with the people in the path of Hurricane Irma, the fires in California and the upcoming hurricanes, Jose and Katia; and lets not forget the people in Texas and Louisiana still recovering from Harvey. The world has gone crazy. Share warmth and kindness to the people in your corner wherever you are, Lord knows we need it.
    Onward and downwards my friends!

    Day 7-1st post-uk-fd

Day 7, Rocky Mountains, US, FD

Yesterday’s FD brought me back to my goal weight. No hiking because the air is so bad from all the fires around. Unfortunately, this will continue for some time. 😣😥😯
Another FD today. Will be easy as I don’t feel well.
    Have a good day everyone!🌺🌻🌼

    Day 7, Emden Germany, NFD

    @basyjames what a relief!

Take care everyone and stay safe!
