    @keetseel — you qualify as a pocket wino for sure! Chambourcin sounds delightful! Now I have to try to find it.

    Day 5 – ABQ – FD
    Day 4 – NFD
    Day 3 – NFD
    Day 2 – NFD

    Well this weekend was super crazy. DH left for Houston early on Sat morning (by car since it was the only way in) and he will be there until the 9th. SInce he’s the primary cook that will (and has) made NFD rather difficult. I usually just have snacky foods if he’s not around, but with a 1.5 year old it makes it harder to do that. I for sure stayed under TDEE on Sun/Mon, but I think Sat night I went a little overboard with lots of chocolate, popcorn & candy. I never get the big TV all to myself so I definitely took advantage.

    @flourbaby, @bigviking, @awilson – I will totally join you for a Dry September! We can do this!

    @keetseel Aahhh ~ is that what all that haze is from? I’ve been so busy I haven’t been keeping up on local news!

    Mari84 Happy anniversary

    So sorry to hear about the hurricanes and fires in USA. My brother lives in New York with his family.

    Good night everyone

    Day 5 UK NFD 800 cal

    @debster251, thanks for posting August’s great weight loss.. amazing what we eradicated!

    Day 5 – Cumbria UK – FD

    Busy day – no time to catch up on the posts so just a quick check in before bed

    Yesterday’s FD went totally bust I’m afraid – very sorry for not holding on tight to you @rainbowsmile – so today was a FD instead coming in under 500cals so not too bad after yesterday’s debacle 😈

    Back to my regular yoga class tomorrow morning so planning on fasting until at least lunchtime tomorrow

    I reminded myself this morning that “Attitude is everything”

    Day 5 Vancouver Island
    NFD
    Debster251 – great idea about the tight pants to use as a measurement. I notice definite changes in my clothes but I haven’t been using the same pair. I’ll try that, thanks 🙂

    @jessyoursize Great to have another member of our small, but select, band!

    Anyone else want to join in?

    Hello 2nd post
    @mari84 & @maayyaa if you wish to stop email addresses do it securely through the web site. The IT administrator UK will send an email to the other party.

    @songbirdme – interesting about no white from Labour day to memorial day. What is the history behind it?

    @lilymartin welcome back

    @bert1802 – I used flylady a few years back and still like a shiny sink lol. Baby steps are relevant in a lot of things in life.

    @mari84 – big achievement I think and a big shift in mindset. What would most of us on some other diet b4 5:2 done if we thought we had ‘blown’ it. Most likely it would have been a green light to gorge on anything and everything. You kept on track pulling back from the brink. Well done you! Can you tell us the story behind your secret wedding? It sounds intriguing!

    @losing_it – confession over, you are forgiven. Enjoy and move on with vigour.

    @mike99 day of challenge = day of the month so we are all on same page.

    Our usual damp summer pales somewhat with the problems weather wise faced by lots of you in America. Between hurricanes, floods, heat and fires I hope you all stay safe.

    After the wonderful downward trend of our August challenge I’m delighted I can add myself to those who are losing in September. After 4 months of struggling I finally have my mojo back. @pocket winos I enjoyed a glass of red last night. Broke my resolve to abstain during the week, but I’m so happy to report the glass I poured only measured 70ml! @penz we can be proud of ourselves.

    @mari84 happy anniversary
    @keetseel definitely a pocket wino. I’m a big fan of beer but only in summer.
    @laurealice I also use Open University but I was very disappointed with a nutrition course offered. It was very basic. I also use edX.org. Currently I’m completing a course on Science and Cooking offered by Harvard Uni’s Physics department. I’m also doing one on Teaching English to Refugees through Future Learn.
    @njgirl well done! Small changes make a huge difference.

    My thoughts are with everyone experiencing the impact of weather. Hurricanes, fires, air quality, unseasonably hot weather it all seems crazy. @rahul I hope you aren’t impacted by the devastating floods? Spring in Victoria Aus can be unpredictable but I cannot recall snow settling on one of our coastal resorts before. It’s cold. @bert I’ll be holding your hand. Hope to hear from you daily.

    Really inspiring reading everyone’s posts. I wish I had time to respond to all.

    Every change you make counts.

    Sorry auto correct my message should read if you wish to swop email addresses. JJ the IT administrator can put you in touch with one another.

    @bigviking I’d love to join but only as a member of the Dry Wino fan club. Cheering you on.

    @at at minimum we overlapped today on a FD. I didn’t manage a WFD, got some bloat and a horrid mouth so I ate a low fat yogurt and then had two poached eggs on wholemeal toast. So not so low.

    I have planned a FD tomorrow too.

    So for tomorrow a FD.

    @mari84 happy anniversary.

    Day 6 – Tokyo, Japan – NFD 82.5kg

    My arms, shoulders, chest and back are a bit swollen today. I did another 100 of lower difficultly push-us yesterday bringing me up to 276 for the day. So I’m basically at the 500 a week level.

    Wow, it is amazing how much conflicting information there is about human nutrition. I even ran across a video of a doctor saying eating oatmeal is nutritional the same as eating cardboard. I guess they make cardboard out of pressed oats where he lives.

    @happymargo – The issue I’ve run into with some OMAD people is they are very anti-exercise. I think it is crazy. However that group probably had an average weight of 200kg. The was on MyFitnessPal forums. Exercise confounds weight lose but it is still really good for the body. Anyway I think it is great you have found something that works for you.

    Day 5 Massachusetts USA NFD We were on the road all day so it was hard to eat well- 2 meals out. I think I stayed under 1000 but I’m not certain. Tomorrow will be a FD!

    @coda — here is one explanation about white. For me, it was my proper, Southern mother who dictated it! https://www.good.is/articles/labor-day-fashion-rules

    Day 6, India, FD
    My last 2 FD’s have been disastrous. So plan to do 3 b2b2b…will see how it goes. Because weekends are still difficult to manage. I am planning to not weigh myself till the end of this month which itself is a big challenge.

    Anyone has any advise for managing constipation. I am drinking plenty of water, eating salads and taking laxatives but I am still severely constipated and my periods are late by a week. The pregnancy test was negative, so its not that either.

    Day 6 – UAE – FD (3rd of 4 day b2bs FD)

    Day 6 FD waikato new zealand.
    A very busy beginning to the month. OH 80th on Sunday and he had a nasty fall so have been too worried about him to fast. I have been eating reasonably sensibly though. Today so far has been a good fast day. Choir practice tonight will help take my mind off food.

    Day 6, UK, NFD

    The weight is creeping down. Have a good day everybody!

    Day 6 UK NFD 🌈

    Successful FD yesterday, when I plan and then don’t think about it again, decision made, plan in place, it seems to work. Last night dinner was veg and a couple of new potatoes, with butter. Taste nice and was filling. It’s surprising how little sometimes you need to eat to get the energy back and keep the hunger at bay.

    Was busy yesterday that helps too.

    Have a good day all. 👊🏻

    Day 6 Aussie FD

    2 successful FD’s this week – Monday and today. My 2nd FD was Thursday but for the last couple I have really struggled, so decided to try Wednesday instead this week and it seemed much easier. Still feeling hungry but not as strong & persistant.
    So water fast all day both days. Have cut adding sugar to my tea/coffee (was only a half teaspoon, but it all counts) and adapting well.
    Am cutting out a lot of processed foods, bread and other simple carbs.
    WI will be next week as I have decided to weigh fortnightly. Lost 1 kilo last fortnight, very happy with that.
    I have had some nuts and strawberries, and dinner will be a small piece of chicken and asian style cabbage. Maybe followed by plain greek yoghurt if still hungry.
    Hope you have all had a good day/night 🙂

    @kokua12
    all ready for you to add your details – you can off course add yourself, no standing on ceremony here.

    Day 6, London, UK, FD (2nd of B2B2B)

    @lilymartin I only have one word for you……………….…………………Jealous!!!!!!

    @awilson…………….at least it’s too hot(??) to drink alcohol!! (Someone told me that’s a ‘thing’……….I had always thought …’I’m too asleep, unconscious or dead……… to drink alcohol’, were the only options!!!) Enjoy your trip & stay safe.

    @bigviking, just think about what a cheap date you’ll be in October, you’ll be out cold on fumes alone!!!! I’m using sparkling water in a wine glass as a substitute at meal times…………….. who do I think I’m fooling!!!??
    @jessyoursize….welcome, Welcome, WELCOME, another member of the Dry-September club or Dry-wino’s, we can definitely do this. There will certainly be some handholding at the weekend though!!! We’re 5 now, including @bert1802 as an honorary member.
    @penz & @onahealthyhigh…………….. I just don’t get it, it’s so alien to me, if the bottle is opened, it’s emptied…..simple. A 70ml glass is just the bit the waiter pours for tasting!!!! I really have ZERO control with wine, which is why it’s a weekend only thing, I do need to remain employed!! Must work on alcohol-control in October.

    I’ve taken the liberty of adding any B2B2B+-ers out there; as I’m a regular ADF-er or B2B2B-er, I’d be on a list every other day so I save my pockets for mini-challenges.

    B2B2B+ LIST OF POCKETEERS, Keep this list in your pocket, whip it out and fondle it lovingly when you need added support during this mini challenge…….… IT’S ONLY 3 DAYS (for some)!!!!!

    Day 6, Wales, NFD

    Oops went to the pub last night and downed 2 large reds…….sorry Pocket Winos……..but it was an enjoyable night out. Still in control (I think) will indulge again Friday and Saturday and that’s my 3 nights for this week.

    Healthy controlled eating well within TDEE is the plan for today and its a FD tomorrow.

    Keep motivated team x

    Day 5 Belfast FD 🐢🍷🗡💪16:8.

    Yesterday was a bit of a mess as I ended up nibbling while watching the TV. For some reason I’m struggling to settle into September’s routine. I have my determined head on today – must keep it below 500 cals.
    Yesterday was my first Pilates class of the new term and today, I am aware that my stomach muscles have been on their holidays! I have to confess I was a bit complacent after doing the plank challenge all August, and boy was I knocked off my perch. When it came to the Pilates 100, I struggled. SO… that goes into my daily routine.

    @penz that deserves a round of applause! 👏
    @lynned love ‘dry till Fri’!
    @krisnia – the fires have escaped my notice here. Either I’ve missed it or it hasn’t been on at all. It must be frightening and very uncomfortable with all the smoke.
    Thanks @metatauta👍
    @bert – thinking of you xo
    @keetseel – a pocket wino extraordinaire I think!
    @happymargo – I like ‘OMAD’. I’m going to use it from now on and will incorporate it as part of my caravanning strategy.
    @rahul1905 – do you exercise? That helps to keep me regular.
    @pamie – sorry to hear about your OH. Wishing,him,a speedy recovery. Xo

    KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!

    Day 6…….Florida……Another FD

    Didn’t get a chance to read last nights posts, as I found myself preparing a bit for the future. After work, went to find some batteries still in the search of D’s but oh well. Did buy some glow sticks. I always keep water jugs and bottles in the house, so need for water. Man, people have wiped stores clean of water, batteries, bread well most staples. Got to thinking your a Floridian, don’t you at least stay semi prepared?
    Then when I got home, repacked the freezer, put water bottles in the freezer, frozen water bottles extended the frozen state in your freezer.

    Tonight, I’ll be gathering candles, getting my precious items picked up and stored things my never be able to replace items, the first angel my OH got me, my sister high school mug, the kids coming home outfit from the hospital and my rosary. Most of these items are well over 20 years old. My sisters mug, that was passed down to me when she passed and it’s over 40 years old. Plus, you know the important paperwork.

    As far as eating, I did end up over doing it a bit…. veggie lasagna, couple pieces of bread, Caesar salad and a ding dong ( chocolate cake by hostess). I’ve got to do better today!

    Well, I’m off to see what going on with Miss Irma this morning.

    My husband told me to stop acting like a flamingo, so I had to put my foot down!

    Day 6, Belfast, NFD

    Yesterday’s FD went well, but I weighed myself…waaaaah!!??! Back up to 12st 5lbs…I think that’s close to the weight when I started in April lol. If I didn’t laugh I think I would cry 😉 So, defo 2 FDs per week for September and sensible eating for NFDs. Need to up the exercise too. So glad I’ve got this forum to check in to…otherwise I really think I wouldn’t have the staying power.

    Good luck everyone today!x

    Day 6- Colorado USA- FD

    To get me thru my 12-hour work day, I am only taking an apple & hard-boiled egg. They’ll be there for me just in case the plain coffee & tea aren’t cutting it.
    I want to be strong & make this FD a success! If I feel weak in the knees or ready to cave in at any point, I will think of all you Fellow Fasters making great strides to bolster my resolve.

    September Challenge is already underway, but I’ve finally decided on my action goals for this month:
    1– Buckle down & complete 8 solid Fast Days.

    2– Join the Pocket Dry-Winos for September. No wine, no beer, no spiked seltzer, except for my Birthday celebration. And that won’t be much because I’m a light-weight with a 2 drink max.

    3– Increase my vegetable servings. Crowd out the junk foods with filling, fibrous, nutrition-packed veggies!

    That is all. I usually go over-board, cramming too many items on the list. But I want to keep it simple & achievable. Basic Baby Steps to see me thru the rest of September!!

    Day 6 UK FD

    3rd fast day of the week. Monday was hard, Tuesday a bit easier and now Weds. It might be a tricky one as I will be socialising later. Probably limit myself to one drink/200kcal?

    Did a Spanish Chicken, Chorizo and Veg tray bake last night and stayed within the 600 kcal limit. I think it might become a family favourite too. Tasty, healthy and quick to prepare.

    @dykask I agree with you earlier post on food and nutritional advice. Self appointed ‘experts’ are at best useless and some can be darn right dangerous. I forget the name of the Vet on Youtube I saw, but he basically says we should learn from how they treat animal nutrition and apply it to humans. Whilst some of it is probably correct, some is probably quite dangerous. And guess what, he sells supplements!

    Mind you, the cabbage soup I make might be toxic. It does the trick, but oof, it’s horrid!

    🙂

    Happy fasting to all. And if it goes wrong, just try again.

    @bigviking – is the list you started for the Pocket Dry-Winos?
    If yes, please add me in too! I’m taking wine, beer & spiked seltzer off the menu for the rest of September! Definitely won’t be easy, but I’m hoping by adding that to my FD I will get some worthy results. Thanks!

    Day 6 Akron OH, 2nd B2B2B2B FD. Is it just me or does September seem a little more energetic than usual. Everybody has their “I can do this” game face on, I love it!
    I am at the breast screening center getting some additional testing done and trying not to be apprehensive. Fingers crossed that they find nothing serious.
    Thank you @flourbaby for adding me to the b2bers.
    Onward and downwards guys, let’s make this month super awesome!

    @happymargo welcome!

    So the Dry September Club (aka Dry Winos) club now consists of
    @flourbaby
    @awilson
    @jessyoursize
    @happymargo
    @bigviking

    and honorary member
    @bert1802

    Day 6 – UK – NFD

    @basyjames – thinking of you, I hope the additional testing goes ok
    @bert1802 – really crazy weather on this planet of ours this year, hope you are all ok

    Make great choices today everyone 🤗

    Day 6, Northumberland UK, FD

    Okay, so yesterday’s FD went south, was just too hungry. Partly I think a hangover of regular overindulgence, partly lack of sleep. Felt somewhat unwell at the Gym, and gave in to Ice Cream which blew my FD out of the water. Figured I might as well continue to a NFD but gained back some control and finished off around TDEE.

    Trying again today, which is going much better – only black coffee and water so far, plus some gum, so only around 10 calories intake. Hubby is in charge of the evening meal, so that may blow 500 calories, but should be able to come in at < 800. If not, I will try again tomorrow.

    Day 6 USA-WA FD

    HAD 3 successful FD which felt good, and was able to control my desire for peanut butter!

    @debster251 There is so much going on in the world right now, but the fires in the western states are out of control from California through WA and OR, up into British Columbia, well into Montana. Glacier National Park, a beautiful place, has lost a lot of trees and buildings. Idaho now has terrible fires-very few are contained. On a happier more mundane note, I too have been enjoying the benefits of Pilates. I’ve been doing some Reformer classes and they are very intense! Have one this morning at 6:45 am. I have a buddy who is also crazy enough to do this with me, so we have fun! It is a really good work out, and I am learning a lot about my core!

    @awilson I was giggling about the idea of “no coffee in Seattle”🙂. I’m guessing you found some! Hope the ash falling from the sky isn’t messing with your moving plans.

    Day 6, USA (New Jersey), FD

    Happy to say that I started my day off by going to the gym. Got up at 4:30am and was on the elliptical machine by 5am! Just taking it one day at a time.

    @happymargo Thank you for letting me know that what I’m doing actually has a name! OMAD/23:1 seems to be the best option for me. So far I find it sustainable. Especially since I can have dinner with my family every night. I know they would be supportive if I chose to fast in the evening but since that is basically the only time during the weekdays when we actually come together as a family I feel that I would be missing out if I did not partake in the meal. How long have you been doing OMAD and how many pounds have you “eliminated”?

    Day 6 – USA (travel day) – NFD

    Yesterday was fine, just over TDEE, gave blood without incident which is always good. Heading out shortly for my travel to Utah. Our single mom DD appreciates my help with our 2 granddaughters there. It’s fun for me to see them all.

    Prayers for so many now under the throes of Irma in the Caribbean. We’ve had a dozen trips to those islands, and they are being stormed with the largest and highest wind hurricane in Atlantic history. And the fires in the western US and Canada have sent smoke and haze even to Illinois! Fires and floods = HELL and HIGH WATER. Oh so sad.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 6 Canada FD
    Looking forward to today’s FD.

    Day 6 – ABQ – NFD

    Yesterday’s FD went really well! I was worried about how it would go without the hubs around, but I barely ate anything until dinner, which was fantastic: edamame w/ sea salt, some cheese with nuts & chocolate, and 1/8 cup of sunflower seeds! It sounds so basic and plain, but they are all at the top of my list of favorite foods! My total was 497 calories – so just squeaked in under 500 😅.

    Today’s NFD was supposed to be a control day, but someone brought doughnuts (my true weakness) into work. But I only had 1, which I thought was way better than my usual over indulgence of 3. I do plan on eating out for lunch, this new french bakery just opened (La Madeleine) and it was a fav of mine from when I lived in TX. I’ve been dreaming about having the strawberry & almond salad for days now!

    I’ve been staying strong with my fellow Dry Sept Challengers! I took all my bottles of wine (at least the unopened ones) & wine coolers and put them in the back of my guest closet. Now I just have to pretend that the open bottle of wine isn’t sitting at the back of my fridge. I think when the hubs gets home, I may make him use it to make white wine chicken – take all the temptation away completely!

    Yay @happymargo! So glad you could join @flourbaby, @awilson, @bigviking, and I (and honorary member @bert1802) in the Dry Sept Challenge! It may sound hard – but it’s just a habit – after 24 days, it’s supposed to get easier 😉 . We can do this!!

    Day 6 McMinnville Oregon (Seattle till Friday) USA – FD
    Well yesterday turned into a FD, so busy packing and not much food around. All alcohol in boxes taped shut so that’s not been a temptation.

    @bert1802 – You’ve been in my thoughts, I’ve never experienced a hurricane before but it would scare me to death. Unfortunately most of our current fires are humans doing stupid stuff like playing with firecrackers in a tender dry forest, rather than mother nature. Be safe.

    @jessyoursize & @happymargo – Welcome to Dry September you brave souls.

    @johnnyr – Yum, your Spanish Chicken sounds fantastic. I would love the recipe.

    @krisnia – Ha ha, I didn’t even think about how silly my coffee dilemma would sound. Believe me I was only a 5 min. drive away from a Starbucks.

    @bert1802.
    That looks a beast of a storm hope everyone stays safe down there.
    I was in Florida when hurricane Jeanne went through but I don’t think it was anywhere near as powerful as that one, pretty scary though. Hurricane Frances had damaged the roof of the villa we had hired when we arrived in Florida they had to give us another Villa in Kissimmee. Still it was a fantastic holiday. Lots of flooding and damage I recall and the power was off for 24 hours at least. Anyway stay safe.

    Day 6 USA CD. FD yesterday was good. It has been difficult to get the rhythm this month as soon as I have a normal eating day plopppp!! next day out of control arggg!.
    @basyjames hope everything goes ok with you. keep calm.

    Day 6 California USA NFD

    My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Irma’s path. @bert1802 stay safe!

    Good FD yesterday after eating too much on my Monday attempted one. Still in the 136’s but will hopefully be moving down after tomorrow’s FD.

    @basyjames – My thoughts are with you as you await further tests and results.

    @rahul1905 – I a 250 mg magnesium oxide supplement in the morning and at night which helps. I also eat lots of beans and vegetables high in fiber. Hope that helps!

    Day 6 – Cumbria UK – NFD

    Sorry to hear about the hurricanes and fires in USA and the Caribbean – Hope everyone is safe @bert1802 thinking of you

    Eventually broke my fast from yesterday at around 2pm today – had a great yoga class this morning – very energising!

    Volunteer afternoon – I had baked coffee and walnut traybake and a banana bread yesterday afternoon for our first get together after the summer break…………I know whilst I was on a FD but truly it does not bother me – I also made a rhubarb (from our garden) and strawberry crumble for my OH – one of his favourite and there is some left for us to have tonight 😄

    @onahealthyhigh and @laurealice – my OH and I both do course from http://www.futurelearn.com – they do offer some very interesting ones also MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) https://www.mooc-list.com/ is a good one to investigate
    @lynned – Re your question about goal weight – I started out at 75kg and initially I went for the middle of my healthy BMI range then when I got there I felt I could lose more and continued and eventually I have settled around 55kg and have never been over that since reaching target in December 2016, I find that I tend to sit around 54kg and I feel happy at that weight!

    @giuseppe59 @skippy1968 @monaem1 @hedgehogs @mike99 @louis05 – WELCOME – 5:2 is a great way to lose weight slowly and steady and then to maintain plus the health gains are a great reason for making it a permanent WOL (Way of Life) You will put weight back on if you go back to old lifestyle and way of eating…..
    The best advice I can give to anyone new to this WOL is to stick to the basic 5:2 for the first month – The following link by @simcoeluv might prove helpful and answer a lot of your questions:– https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/ – once you have got used to the basic fasting day then try experimenting and you will find what works best for you.

    @dykask – fascinating reading your posts – obviously very interested in nutrition and it’s effect on our bodies – a fountain of knowledge – thank you for sharing
    @molij – I retired 4 years ago and like you I lost my darling mum in that first year but having retired I could fly to Australia where she lived to spend time with her and it gave us both a lot pleasure to have time together – she initially improved so I returned to the UK but within 2 months I was back in Australia and got there to be with her and my sister during her last week on this earth…..
    @mari84 – happy anniversary 🥂
    @keetseel – Welcome to the pocket winos – I will be investigating that Chambourcin, not a wine I’m familiar with – tonight with a rib eye steak and mushrooms I am having a lovely Australian Cabernet Sauvignon – Parker Favourite Son Coonawarra 2014 – a very nice drop 🍷Sorry Dry September Group…….
    @onahealthyhigh – 70mls of wine!!!!!!!! Just no – unless it was a desert wine then yes……..
    @pamie – sorry to hear about your OH – hope he is on the road to a full recovery
    @basyjames – thinking of you for your additional testing at the Breast Screening Centre 🤗

    Great to catch up with the posts – I am seriously impressed by those hardy souls doing B2B2B and even longer fasts 👏

    Every day is a fresh start.
    Each day is a new beginning.
    Every morning we wake up is the first day of our new life”
