  • @mema02 – I’ve counted calories for years with pencil & paper…but no more. Now they have wonderful smart phone apps to do it all for you.
I use “Lose It” because it’s easy, precise & can even scan barcodes off the side of food packaging. Another popular app is My Fitness Pal.

There’s so much info available these days if you google on-line.
    Good luck!!

Oops! I see @mogaman beat me to answering this question. But I’ll 2nd the notion that I really like seeing the nutritional graphs on Lose It (shows grams & % of fat/ protein/ carbs eaten in a day.)

    Day 13, India, NFD

The day started out as an FD but there is a sudden plan to go out with friends
tonight, so will be a controlled day instead. I love the flexibility of this
    way of life.

    Day 13, Norway….

Just checking in… i saw my name on the FD list today, thought i was doing monday and thursday this week. BUT , since im already on the list, let me just stay there, and i can make this a FD afterall… So far i’ve just eaten a healthy omelet for lunch…happily skipping breakfast everyday now. I used to think “oh no, im destroying my metabolism”…i dont anymore 🙂

Will be a tiny “dinner” though, since i’ve already blown about 250-300kcals on my lunch…oh well, i can do it 🙂

Thanks for putting my name on the list, maybe i needed the kick in my butt.

    Day 13 USA FD
Yesterday’s FD went well, so I’m going for a B2B to see if I can let go of a bit more of the overindulgence from last weekend.

@bert1802 all the best as you clean up. Seeing the images from various parts of Florida makes it look like a daunting task. I am supposed to go to a training in Orlando in Nov and I was thinking about the time the state needs to put lives and neighborhoods back together-never mind us outsiders coming into the state!

Hello all back in land of living – thank you for all your thoughts, good wishes and prayers. Now recovery begins.
@rainbowsmile – as @debster251 says after all you have been through go easy on yourself. While change will happen you are still fragile and need to treat yourself with care and respect. While you may not like where you are at this moment, you are doing something about it. And really no one likes their body when they are carrying excess baggage so you are not alone. You have been let down and you need to rebuild. You need to learn to love yourself and concentrate on the good. You need a big hug at the moment and reassured it will be ok – just give it time. x

    Day 13 Canada NFD

    Have a great day everyone!

    Day 13 – France – NFD

A quickie just to say hello. Glad all is ok @coda, take it easy.

    Will catch up tomorrow x

DAY 13 – USA (UT visiting) – NFD

Doing fine, maintaining well. Here at DD’s apartment, I climb 2 long flights of stairs to get up to her 3rd floor. I am sure it is good for me, but on the same day as my exercise class, Silver Sneakers, it can be quite challenging!

@annemarilyn – I like the Trader Joe’s dark chocolate with nuts too. I don’t think I have seen the SF one there… will have to look for it. I love that most Trader Joe’s food products pop right up in My Fitness Pal as well. That has been my calorie counter of choice for about a year now. I love that I have added my recipes that I routinely make by putting in the various ingredients also.

@coda – hugs and prayers for quick and easy recovery!

    Onward and downward!

Day 13 Akron OH FD 1st of B2B. I’m may do three in a row but for now I’m sticking with 2 in a row fur sure. So far so good September; I haven’t stepped on a scale yet but I had to use another safety pin in my favorite pair of black pants today, so definitely inches lost.@Coda my best wishes and hugs all the way from Ohio.
    Make today awesome everyone.

    Day 13 – UK – FD

@basyjames – great news on the safety pin, that’s a real result, not just a bouncy scale
@coda – be kind to yourself, wishing you a speedy recovery after your foot operation
@bert1802 – thinking of you and all your friends and neighbours as you face the mammoth task of cleaning up.
@penz – hope you find your home soon and power is restored, we are looking forward to hearing from you.
@maayyaa – looks like you are taking to this WOL, well done on squeezing in another FD

    Happy Wednesday everyone 😊

Day 13 UK NFD – not been able to get in the swing of things , had some quite upsetting news last week my sister has been having headaches and turns out she has a cherry sized aneurysm behind her eye …….anyway she’s getting good care and I’ve absorbed the news .

Have a bit of catching up to do , but good to see you’re ok @coda 🍀❤️

Will catch up and get back into fasting x

Day 13 McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD
I had a good FD yesterday, came in just over 500 cal. I’m going to play it by ear today, it may turn into a FD well shall see.

@rainbowsmile – No worries, just press the RESET button. Don’t beat yourself up!! 💕 ((((((Hugs)))))

@melf123 – Enjoy the beach, it sounds wonderful. 🏖Hope it helps with your sinuses.

@coda – Best wishes on your recovery.

@belfastsink – Your recipe sent me on a google search to find Waitrose Thai spice mix but it looks like it’s only available in the UK. Darn.

@bert1802 – So glad all is well!!

@brightonbelle – Difficult news, big hug to you! 💝

    Day 13-NFD-U.K.

Day 13 – SW WA USA – FD

Not sure I stayed within calorie allotment for an FD yesterday. Just trying to be honest here. Planning mostly liquid today.

@coda – glad you came through surgery well. May your recuperation do the same.

@songbirdme – the TJs chocolate is Simply Lite no sugar added Dark Chocolate With Almonds 3.5 oz (100 g)bar Hope that helps for finding it. My TJs has it above the freezer section.

@basyjames – good for you with pants getting looser

@brightonbelle – that’s tough news. I pray things go well for your sister.

    Remember, together we are stronger!

Just arrived home from hospital. Surgery went well with the unveiling in 2 weeks. No driving for 6 weeks as I don’t have an automatic and no squash for 6 months ☹

@rainbowsmile this is for you and @brightonbelle and anyone else who needs one
    https://goo.gl/images/jjvkLD

    Day 13 – Reykjavik – NFD

In order to improve my ways from last weekend I decided to have a vegan meals on NFD´s this week. Yesterday I had a gorgeous homemade soup made from pumpkin and beans. I might have to rethink my prejudice on vegan food from now on! Who needs a meat anyway? Overrated 😉

Thank you again for thinking of me – feeling blessed I have all these friends all over the world sending thoughts and good wishes x

    Day 13–ABQ–CD

Had another crappy NFD yesterday. I was doing so well until about 8 pm, when I went on a *snack RAMPAGE*. Grrr. NFDs are definitely harder than FDs now.

I was listening to a podcast the other day that talked about now fatigue affects our prefrontal cortex functions. The newest theory is that, later in the day when we’re tired, we aren’t able to make the best, most rational decisions. This won’t be news to most of you, but it was a good reminder to me that I need to figure out a way to protect my lizard brain from letting me eat up all the food at night. Timer locks on the cupboards?

2nd Post– @coda, thanks for the hug and right back at you…

Day 13 Massachusetts USA FD Hi to all!

    Day 13 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Had an excellent FD yesterday – 221 calories in total made up with skimmed milk in cups of tea and a glass of homemade Blackbery Kefir in the evening.

Great Yoga class this morning then a volunteer afternoon – cups of tea and lots of water kept me going today so yet to break my fast!! will be over a 45hr fast before I get to eat this evening!! so looking forward to a homemade prawn and tomato base curry, brown rice and white cabbage salad for dinner tonight – should be a healthy meal!

@coda – Good to hear that your operation went well and you are back home – now you need to be patient and allow healing to take place before you can get back to being active 💐

“No one ever got to the top of the mountain in one giant jump
Challenges can be overcome and goals can be reached
But it can only happen one step at a time”

    @keetseel

I’ve read research somewhere that says that willpower is a limited commodity too. So we are doomed!

You can buy plastic kitchen storage boxes with timer locks on them. But I think when I’m hungry I could probably break into anything! Or walk to the local shops… :O

    3rd Post

@JohnnyR–Well, I’ll be darned…maybe the clue to the mindset of the people buying these is to scroll down to the “Frequently Bought Together” section of the page.

    https://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Safe-Locking-Container-Height/dp/B00JGFQTD2

    😂🤣

    Day 13 North Wales NFD

@coda I am glad your operation went well.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a FD but I am going to make it a NFD. I am returning home after just over a week away. I will be taking my three year old granddaughter with me for the weekend and as it is a three to four hour car journey and I am carrying such a precious package, I think I will need to be alert and not feeling distracted by the dragon. I will try and make Friday the second FD this week.

    Day 13 California USA FD

Doing my 2nd FD for the week, a day early because I’m traveling for work the following 2 days. Went out to lunch yesterday and over did it a little so up a couple pound again this morning. It’s probably water weight but still…

    Day 14 NZ NFD/CD
WOW… my second week weigh in and measure. I can’t believe it 2.7kg loss and an inch all round. It’s just the beginning of a great life style change for me. This challenge has made me aware that I wasn’t looking after myself and the mindless eating effected my energy levels, my self esteem, and my health. I know I’ve only discovered the 5:2 WOL but this has motivated me to learn more.

    2nd post

So happy for you Coda that you arrived home and that all went well. Now all you need is to follow doctors orders to recuperate fully in the next months.

    Good night everyone

    Day 13 MA, USA–FD
    Day 14 MA, USA–NFD

Having a rough time with the fast days this week. I think I’ve probably gone over my allotted calories, but I am going to call it a day and stick with water and tea for the rest of the day. It will be a challenge, but I need to remind myself that I can do this. I’m feeling very heavy from overeating yesterday and over the weekend, and need to make a concerted effort to have a very good fast day tomorrow. So, instead of a NFD for Thursday, it will be a FD.

    Norway, day 13,NFD

Just checking in. Fast started a few hours ago (I usually start around 19-20), and I have been to my first yoga class in many years. Felt good 🙂
Looking forward to and dreading the FD tomorrow. Looking forward to Friday. Tired. Hungry. I’m going to bed now.

    Good night everyone!

    Day 13 Vancouver Island
    NFD
Sending lots of positivity your way @coda hoping you have a speedy recovery!
    Cheers Everyone

    Day 13 | 🇮🇪 Ireland | NFD
    FD tomorrow.

    Day 14 Melb AUST NFD

@melf123 have a great time in warm Port Douglas and out of cold Melbourne!

    Day14/NFD/Melbourne Australia

    @melf123 enjoy your break.

Looking forward to a few hours of wintery sunlight to work in my garden before the outbreak of rain.

    Have a great day everyone

Day 13, Rocky Mountains, US, CD

Another hike this morning. Yeah, so good for the soul @at. 😊😊😊

@coda: glad your surgery went well! 💐

@bert1802: good that you have your power back.

All the best to everyone! 😊🌻😊🌼😊

    Still Day 13 here –

@belfastsink – TY for the recipe info. Sounds yummy. I think I may try it using the Miracle Noodles. The flavors sound great!

@happymargo – back to liquids today, so far so good. If I understand correctly, your liquds came to around 500 a day? I had a follow-up Dr. visit and I was 3 lbs less than earlier visit on 8/22. Headed the right direction!

@bert1802 – no news from @penz yet that I’ve seen. Hope she fared (sp?) well during Irma.

Mornings from Norway, Day 14, NFD

Yesterday i managed to do my unplanned FD. Landed on 504kcals.
Im still on my freakin’ 88.8 plautau 🙁 Still happy about not gaining though…but hey…only 16 more days to get to my September Goal!

I’m in the oil business, and today they are firing 70 people in Norway 🙁 … not a good day…we still dont know who is affected. This will be the fifth downsizing round since the start in 2015.

    Still day 13 –
Made it through for a liquid day. Added in a tomato bisque soup so coming in around 450 or so.

@maayyaa – being on a plateau is no fun but you’re right it’s also good not to gain. Wow that’s rough for people to lose their jobs. Isn’t that quite uncommon in Norway? My former husband is now married to a Norwegian & living in the southern part of the country.

    Day 14-UK-FD

Feeling determined. Good luck 😉 fellow fasters x

    Day 14 – Nuremberg, Germany – NFD
Heading home this evening after a day of workshops. Not a bad non fast day yesterday. Deliberately had a small lunch as I went out to dinner with colleagues last night.

    Day 14 London NFD

    Norway, Day 14, FD

@maayyaa Oh no, I hope you are not affected! Well, I am sure you will be emotionally affected due to coallegues losing their job, but I hope you get to keep yours! I know a lot of peolple who lost thir jobs in 2015 (I lived in Stavanger back then), and it was horrible to watch. I too had to receive “unemployment money” /dagpenger for a while there, until I got a temp-job. Now I luckily have a permanent postion, not in the oil business. Btw: sent the soup yesterday, sorry for the delay, and I am still with you on the f*** platau. Don’t care, feels good to fast and just keep going, it WILL change evetually. I think I will be doing 4:3 next week, like you are this week 🙂

@annemarilyn Due to the oil crisis, over 40 000 people have lost their jobs the last couple of years here in Norway, so it has been really dramatic actually (considering we are only 5 million people in this country, that is a whole lot of people). But we have a quite good system where you get unemployment money (dagpenger) for max 2 years. But it is not much, and with the prices for housing and food, many people have not been able to hold on to their houses etc due to this.

FD today feels OK, I think. But my mother in law is coming over for dinner this afternoon, and she is bringing the food, so I don’t look forward to saying “no thank you”. And also we are telling her about the sected marriage. But I really do think she will just be pleased. Told my dad yesterday and he was surprised but not angry :-p

    Happy fasting!

    Day14 Toulouse France – NFD

Checking in but definitely not fasting. We are on the road through beautiful France with delicious food and wine. On the long way home though.

I will be looking forward to fasting next week

Hello day 14 fd? Co Down NI
Foot still numb from nerve block and still getting to grips with crutches. Once all the feeling comes back I should be able to put my heel down.
@mari84 – do you get on with your mil? Will the dynamics change when she realises you are officially her dil? I never really got on with my mil until the last 10/15 years. But then she doesn’t get on with lots of people especially her other son/daughter in laws.
I have over the years found with any diet that I would have 3-4 week plateau b4 dropping which I now understand is the whoosh effect. On previous ‘diets” tho they were not sustainable for me as a wol and they were costing money! Unlike 5:2 which is free. While i am very much a 🐢 i am still here, keeping on and learning all the time, listening to my body and what works. Off course without my friends on these challenges it would have been a very lonely journey – so thank you again for your company and sharing your ups and downs. Together we are 💪❤

    Day 14, UK, NFD

Whatever increased my water retention on Tuesday is still with me, despite a perfect FD yesterday. Grrrr 😡

    Happy recovery @coda!

    DAY 14 – UK – NFD

Probably ate 1000 cals. yesterday – so not a fast day, but mindful eating! Had held off ’til 4.00pm and then just had to eat…so all those cals in one hit. Hopefully mindful eating again to-day.

Hope you’ll soon be up and about Coda – but don’t rush things – patience always pay off.

    Good luck all.

    Day 14 Belfast 🌦 NFD 🐢🗡🍷💪
    Day 15 Belfast NFD

Despite three days of 500/800/500 cals approx and some quite strenuous exercise, I’m disappointed to see that the scales have moved not a jot. Ah well…..

@bert1802 – It’s so good to hear your back to normal self. Good luck with your clearing up. Hope all’s well with @penz.
@ BelfastSink – thank you for those tasty recipes. I would like to try those. Out of curiosity, where do you get your Waitrose spices? Do you order them online?
@johnnyr – good luck with your challenge.
@brightonbelle – so sorry to hear about your sister’s health problem. Wishing her speedy healing and strength to you.
@keetseel – Ha! That says it all!
@maayyaa – I’ll be thinking of you today. I hope you finish today still with your job. 🤞
@mari84 – I had no idea that so many jobs had gone in Norway. Here, we hear very little or no news about Scandinavian countries, even though we are very close.

Stay strong everyone. TOGETHER WE CAN DO THIS!

    Day 14 – France – FD

FD and hope I can do it. Extremely floppy this week, the change of seasons has hit me hard. Am seeing an etiopath this evening for my chronic back problems. This will be a first, has anyone ever seen one?

@brightonbelle Healing thoughts for your sister, bon courage.

@tenoro We eat vegan several times a week, it can be very tasty and satisfying. In fact we only ‘do’ meat once a week.

@mysugarabstainerfriends Yes still going strong. Well, strong isn’t the right word to be quite honest. Have had a few cravings, especially when I made a lemon drizzle cake for DH and baby boy. But hey, what’s wrong with plain yoghurt!

    Hugs to all

@debster251 hang in there I always think it takes the scales a few days to catch up. Same as when you weigh after an indulgent day and think you got away with it lol.

Day 14, London, UK, FD (2nd of B2B2B2B)

@brightonbelle, I hope the prognosis is positive for your sister, fingers crossed…xxxxxxxx

I think I need to induce a whoosh this week, so I’m writing this to keep myself accountable, if I’m going to manage my allotted 8700 cals this week (Sun is weigh-in day) then I need to do a B2B2B2B of 660cals/day starting yesterday and consume no less than 2.5L of water per day!!!! Lunch out on Tuesday was surprisingly high in cals, lesson learnt!!!
I’m self-sabotaging and that’s without the influence of alcohol, so back on the strict counting cals, healthy choices, low sugar & low carb wagon………………… I seem to have been rewarding myself a little bit too much, slipping over the top of TDEE and not the right stuff………….. How did this stuff get into my house anyway????? I’ve been breaking my own rules, I know that ‘if it isn’t in the house………. I can’t eat it’, ‘water is my lethal weapon’ and ‘the kitchen is CLOSED at 7.30pm’………………… I really need to get myself back on track with what I know works!!!!

I hope everyone is managing this WOL with ease!!!!
