  • Day 17 – USA (Illinois) – FD

Had a good CD yesterday overall despite the ice cream after rehearsal last night.

Irish folk – so glad to hear from those of you who have checked in. Hope you’re all coping with trees down and debris.

@coda — So funny the discussion of jewelry that your rings are safe right on your hand! I’m in the process of changing homeowners insurance and had to get all of our valuables appraised. Whew – the price of gold has sure gone up. Plus a couple rings that had been my mother’s turned out to really be valuable. I had no idea. One ring I had made from my MIL’s wedding/engagement rings is now too big, only wearable with a “sizer” in it. Yeah for that!

Tonight it’s Chicago Cubs back at Wrigley Field, “sweet home Chicago” we hope.

    Onward and downward.

Day 17 Sicily FD I’m going to hover around 500 calories today by eating nothing between breakfast and our last dinner in Sicily (pizza.) It should be no problem getting in 2 FD’s this week since it’s a lot easier at home than here. I’ve done well though. I’ll find out how well at the end of the week- my 1st time near a scale in over a month!

    Day 16 UK NFD
    Day 17 UK FD

Finding it hard to fit in FD this week as out every night for dinner till Thursday then off for 10 days holiday!
Trying to stay controlled by fasting all day till I go out and then being careful with the menu. I’m sure this will limit the damage…. hopefully.

Have taken on board all the posts re comments on ” being too thin etc” ! I agree with them all so thanks to @daffodil2010, @tlc2, @missybear, @flourbaby, @at , @ Debster251, @bert1802,,@LindaSue, @coda and @mari84. I must remember some of the “gentle” put downs the next time!

Only last night one of my closest friends asked if I was still ” on my diet” and would it be ‘forever and ever!”
To which I replied… hopefully yes as I never ever want to put this weight back on!

Another reason is I’d have nothing to wear as I took all my bigger clothes to the charity shop last week!! I usually keep things “just in case” which over the years has proved to be fortuitous as I always ended up fitting right back into them but no more!!

    Day 17 Akron OH FD.
@songbirdme double yay for rings that need a sizer to fit.
@lynned I am with you, so annoying when the scale does not cooperate like it should. The day to day numbers can be frustrating but the overall trend tells the truer picture-at least that’s what I tell myself 🙂 this time last year I was about 20 pounds heavier and very unhappy with my eating habits and the way my clothes fit; It’s amazing what a difference ADF has made in my life in such a short time. Take that Cruella de scale !
@SteveToonTaxiDriver huge congrats on your daughter’s birthday. I agree time does fly with those little ones; my kids are 15 and 13; if I could slow time down I would but since I cannot I try to cherish the moments.
@bert1802 glad I made you laugh, I am usually successful at hiding my claws but sometimes just can’t help myself 

Keep fighting the good fight my friends, I agree that together we are stronger.

@at thanks, made very good sense. I will definitely try that next time 🙂

    Day 17 UK FD

Going alright so far. I’m going to have a low cal instant hot choc in a minute. They are too sweet for me really but I find the sweetness a comfort when its a FD. Really looking forward to my 350cal meal in a couple of hours.

Thanks to those who wrote encouraging comments for me last week. (Is the only way to check on comments to scroll through the whole load of posts looking for your own name?) (I subscribed to emails on this topic and ended up with 135 emails the next day! Had to unsubscribe!)

Day 17 – SW WA USA – NFD

Hooray – down to 201 lbs, 3.2 less than the beginning of October. Still have half the month to get below 200 again. The liquid fast went well yesterday.

@daffodil2010 – so glad you weathered the storm well at your place. So sorry for the loss of life elsewhere. Praying for the families.

@fatrabbit – funny how pots travel. Your stove sounds amazing! Is bread totally out of your life at this time?
Still a few posts to catch up on but need to head in to work.

    Remember together we are stronger!

    Day 16 – Cumbria UK – NFD

No negative outcomes from all that wind last night and I slept well!
Weather a bit colder today and still a bit windy at times.

Had a good FD yesterday with a total of 431 cals consumed – weight this morning remains stable at 53.8kg/118.6lbs – maintenance continues!

Met a friend for brunch today to break my fast and enjoyed a light brunch as out for dinner tonight so saving my calories for that….

Good to hear than everyone is OK after Ophelia’s passage……

**14 days left in this October Challenge – Let’s make it count**

“I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy – I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it”

    Day 17 FD Iowa

Good morning!! I’m feeling better today than yesterday. I seem to feel best after a FD. I’ve been reading a bit online. Not to be a Debbie Downer but have you read about the study that put 100 people on 3 different diets–one was ADF another was calorie counting. The ADF didn’t perform better. That concerned me a bit. But, it was only 100 people … and we really don’t know much about what information they were given or motivation they had. There were many dropouts. Has Michael Mosley weighed in on this??

@daffodil2010 I am glad you’re safe and have power. Hurricanes have done so much damage recently. I watched a live stream of Puerto Rico and it was shocking to me how powerful it was. I live in tornado alley and have seen the damage done by tornados—mother nature is powerful.

@fatrabbit I am so happy for you!! Losing weight is not easy and accomplishing it is a big deal—I think we forget that sometimes. LOL @ the cooker. I suspected that is what it was. I’m enjoying the different terms we use in different countries for the same thing. I love the diversity of this group.

@coda I think it is possible that your body is telling you to relax a bit on the LFD’s. Sometimes, it is is hard for me to distinguish mouth hunger and a message from my body. When I feel exhausted I try to determine if I will feel better after the fast or if I eat. I’m still not sure but throwing it out there as a possibility.

@debster251 swimming—kite surfing—that is crazy! Not only risky for themselves but for the people tasked with rescuing them.

@SteveToonTaxiDriver Happy bday to your daughter!!

    Day 17 – USA – NFD

@debster251, glad you got at least a similar engagement ring again…I have my grandmother’s, over 100 years old and if I ever lost it, I’d fall apart! @mogaman, I admire your resolve even on your long holiday…@TLC2, congrats on your 2 lb. loss! @lynned, hang in there! You’ll have a whoosh soon! @Stevetoon, can empathize with the wonder of kids growing up…happy birthday to your “little girl”! @mia139, how brave of you to get rid of your larger clothing…I also have about 3 sets of clothing, and I actually wore a form-fitting sheath dress the other day that I have not been able to get into for at least 3-4 years. Great feeling! The same lady that announced in January 2017 in a public gathering that I gained a lot of weight lately, commented in the same group, “look at your flat stomach”! With either comment, I did not take it personally, because she is such a dear old ladyfriend, but just has no discretion whatsoever, lol! @bluefootedruby, go to the top of the site on the right-hand side where it says “profile”…then go to “replies created” and you will see what you posted each day. To those who miss bread, I have found lots of great recipes on YouTube under “keto” or “low carb” bread recipes…of course, you don’t use white or wheat flour, and if you invest in a little almond, coconut flour, psyllium husk, and flaxseed, you can whip up a loaf of bread in no time or my fav, everything bagels!!!

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/behindtheheadlines/news/2017-05-02-alternate-day-fasting-diets-no-better-than-traditional-dieting/

The study. I really don’t take much away from this other than –ADF does work–5:2 might work better in terms of adherence but wasn’t studied. I’m disappointed insulin wasn’t measured.

    Day 17 – ABQ – NFD/CD
    Day 16 – NFD
    Day 15 – NFD
    Day 14 -NFD

So this weekend’s NFD went really well until late on Sunday evening when I started feeling really sick (cold/flu like sick) I had gotten my flu shot earlier that day, and every few years it seems they use a strand that always gives me flu like symptoms for about a day. I was running a fever all day yesterday, and when I feel like that, all I want is carbs so I can carb load then sleep. I feel much better today, but I’m still that achy sick, so I wanted to make today a CD before jumping into B2B FDs Wed & Thurs.

I did skip the challenges yesterday, but I will be making them up over the rest of the week. I am starting to see a difference in my abs & arms for sure, a whole .5 inch off each arm & the waist, so yay!

I’m glad to see my fellow Sober Octoberites are doing well! Even though this is half way through month 2, I rarely remember I’m doing it anymore. I just don’t have it around, so I don’t remember that I’m not.

@bert1802, Great job on decluttering! That is a task I’ve been working on slowly all year. I’d like to have it all done by the time we leave for the xmas holiday.

@okeydokey, NaNoWriMo is a big challenge, you “win” if you make it to the 50k mark by Nov 30. I’m definitely going to try to win, but even getting anything written will be a great start. My “book” is about a mom in her 30’s who thinks she’s got the perfect suburban life, when she finds out that she has magic and her whole family (including her hunky hubby) has been hiding it from her. She’s also apart of a prophecy/curse and it’s up to her to help save the world. The only part I’ve actually written so far is my synopsis, so it will be interesting to see how it evolves as I write.

Synopsis: 30-year-old Vivian Michaels has the perfect suburban life. Promising career, heartthrob husband, adorable daughter, beautiful house. But when an Eclipse Party turns disastrous, Vivian finds her entire life has been a sham. Her eyes are opened to a world filled with magic and ever lurking danger. Caught in the middle of a dark and evil curse, Vivian must learn how to harness her newfound abilities, save the world, and hopefully find happiness in the scraps that are left of her old life.

@keetseel, Yay! Glad to find another writer! I saw they are doing a kick-off party at the Frontier on Halloween starting at 11 pm, but I think I saw that most of the write-ins are at coffee shops around ABQ. I’m not sure if I’ll go to any write-ins, but we’ll see how far I get in the first week before I make the decision lol!

@mia139, don’t let the nay-sayers get you down, I’ve found that those who you’d think would be the most supportive (those who are also overweight) aren’t and it’s just cause they are struggling to lose weight, and it’s discouraging to them to see you doing it. Have you tried introducing them to this WOL? And go you for making the progress to get into a size 12! That deserves some praise!!

@mia139, @daffodil2010, @missybear, & @flourbaby, I LOVE seeing everyone dropping sizes! I have to also keep remembering that a UK 12 is a US 10 so it makes me even MORE impressed! Ya’ll go!! I’ve got a bit of a ways to go, but I am *right in between* a 12 & 14 (14 & 16 UK) so hopefully I’ll be joining ya’ll in the 12 dance here soon!!

    Day 17, FD

Went for a run this morning – good.
Traveling to a seminar this afternoon and had some chocolate in the airport – not so good.
Hopefully a good and not so good cancel each other out?

    Day 17 California FD

My lunch at a new (casual) restaurant with my OH and sis derailed my FD, so doing it today instead. Why is it when I screw up just a little bit on eating that I end up making the whole rest of the day a total food disaster? There must be some syndrome or name for that! Maybe the “eat-a-cupcake-eat-a-bagel-factory syndrome”? Sheesh! I have to stop doing that! I’m starting a “Stop the nonsense and get serious” movement. Any joiners? 😄

Now I have to get from 61.9 down to 60.1, where I was a couple weeks ago. Then down to my goal of 58.

    Day 17 Lancaster, PA FD 1st of 3 Days B2B2B FD’s

✨Condolences and prayers for the people who lost their lives from Ophelia.✨
Hoping that @rainbowsmile is safe and doing well after Ophelia. Glad to hear @daffodil2010, and @debster251 are safe and doing OK. Warm wishes for the recovery.✨🌈✨

The past 2 Days I’ve been eating lots (3 cups) of greens, salads. Basically the Paleo diet without the organ meat 😊
✨No food since yesterday evening.😊At least I’m not eating sugary sweets or drinking Margaritas on FD’s. Kudos to all who are abstaining from sugar and alcohol.👏👏 I’ve been researching and have read the studies on how detrimental sugar and alcohol can be to the gut and the nervous system. I would think that would be enough for me to stay motivated. 😝 I’ll have to work my way into getting rid of sugar and alcohol for a whole month…. Not there yet.✨
@awilson I hope your headache is getting better.✨🌈✨ I have found that drinking plenty of water helps to keep the headaches away. I drink 6-8, 8oz glasses of water a day when fasting.😊 Also potassium magnesium B6, B12 and gargling with sea salt water (only if needed) helps me.
@liathanail I admire your ability to sip water and keeping away from the snacks! 😊✨Good for you! ✨ Just remember it’s not forever. I try to push the feeling away, because I know, with the 5:2 we can have what we want. I pick a day on the weekend and have the one thing I’ve been craving. As @fatrabbit has said nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. Plus I’m learning how bad refined snacks are for our gut, nervous system, brain. Keep up the good work! ✨✨You Got this!✨✨We are here for you!✨✨Together we are Stronger.✨🌈✨
@dykask Good Vibes And warmest wishes to you for good health. Hoping the acute Bronchitis will be gone soon.✨
@jessyoursize I love your synopsis!✨ Your book/ Novel sounds very interesting. When it is done, I would love to read it!✨ Very intriguing!✨Good for You!✨
@califdreamer I will join you! Stop the nonsense and get serious” movement.✨🤜🏻🤛🏻✨

Right now my favorite quote: ✨Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!✨😊✨
    ✨Good Luck Everyone!✨✨Together we are Stronger!✨✨

    @metatauta Thanks for your help.

Second post ~ @coda funny one of the first places to get thin was my fingers! They do swell up in the heat, though, which is why I took them off….
@songbirdme ~ I got all my jewellery valued for insurance last year, and got a shock. I reinsured online, and didn’t tick the box for insuring valuables outside the home, never thinking of my rings. One big lesson learnt.
@mogaman ~ your holiday self control is amazing. Have a safe journey home.
@xoxo thank you for the link; an interesting study. One of the criticisms was that people did not adhere to the 500 cals on FDS but for me the flexibility is a strength. When you read the posts on this forum for example, you realise how people adjust the regime to suit their lifestyle. While I am a serial failure on other diets, that is, I can lose but it goes back on, I know that this is a forever WOL. My journey has been a slow one, and my loss has been consistently down. I am very confident that when I get to my goal I shall be able to maintain my weight by keeping up my fasting. I see from the alternative NHS weight loss App that you get something that sounds very familiar don’t you think?
promotes safe and sustainable weight loss
learn to make healthier food choices
get support from our online community
a weekly progress chart (view sample PDF, 545kb)
exercise plans to help you lose weight
learn skills to prevent weight regain
Like you, I’m disappointed that the insulin wasn’t measured.
@Jesseyoursize ~ I love the synopsis. Good luck to you and @keetseel In your writing. It’s so good to be creative.

Why is it I can look at the GBBO and not succumb to temptation?

    2nd post

    Fd ended around 1,000 calories.

I kept nibbling food which was prepared for my family.

    Good night everyone

    Day 18 | NFD | UK

    Day 18 Gold Coast CD

A reasonable CD yesterday. Found myself looking for snacks mid-afternoon, so had some peanuts and then only a light dinner. Scales stayed the same this morning, so that’s a win. The lack of structure in my day while on holidays is proving more tricky than I expected, but helped by hubby following 5:2 as well. As always he is achieving more success than me, and is really showing his weight loss.

@debster251, we saw the video of that idiot swimming in the storm waves on our news all the way over here! Still we get idiots doing crazy things during our cyclones as well – usually not the people who experience cyclones on a regular basis, but others who think its a bit of a lark!

Day 17, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

    Perth. Western Australia
    Day 11 – NFD – 64.6kg
    Day 12 – NFD – 64.9kg
    Day 13 – NFD
    Day 14 – NFD
    Day 15 – NFD
    Day 16 – FD – 65.0kg
    Day 17 – NFD 64.5
    Day 18 – NFD 64.1
I haven’t posted an update in a week as I have a friend over. Spent several days down in the Margaret River wine region. I’ve been very much in holiday mode and the one FD I did was over 500calories but still tried to keep within TDEE. She leaves in a few days so back on track then.

@mia139 – I’m with you about not going back to the old weight due to ‘fat’ clothing being gone! I consider our WOL to be the only WAY I want to have forever. Yes, those who ask why we continue to do this, I tell them I am at 6:1 which is maintenance so I won’t gain anything back. That seems to silence them.

@debster251 – glad to hear you in Ireland are surviving. And yes, shock at the jewelry value! To change insurers, they required the appraisals. I think for our previous policy we just estimated what things were worth, but we not only have added some items from family estates, but individual values really went up.

    2nd post:

Does anyone limit their calories to 800 on more than 2 days? I feel really good today. This is my 2nd 800 calorie day because I did them back to back. Mosley’s blood sugar diet is 800 calories every day for a few weeks (3 I think). Maybe I am premature and tomorrow I will want to eat and will not feel as in control as I do tonight. But, if I still feel like it is not hard to have another 800 calorie day … do you advice against it?

I’m using my essential oil mist in my bedroom again (tea tree oil and peppermint) and I can tell that I am sleeping so much better and can breath so much better. That could be why I am feeling so good today also.

@califdreamer I read a book called how to have you cake and skinny pants too. She calls it “Eating Cuz You Ate”. Essentially because we forbid certain foods we eat like there is no tomorrow because … there isn’t for foods that we feel shouldn’t be in our diet ever. While I found her book insightful it is impossible to reconcile her system with fasting. I do use a few rules like eating at the table. At any rate the phrase “eating cuz you ate” pops in my head when I let a 50 calorie slip into a “off the diet” binge.

@debster251 thank you for looking at the link and letting me know what you thought. It does so much for me to hear that you’re consistency losing and feel it will be lost forever.

    2nd post:

2nd of 21 Day of personal challenge for whole plant based foods

I’ve been flossing, brushing, and gargling every night after my meal. That has helped profoundly. I no longer find myself having a snack or tempted to have a snack.

@califdreamer I read a book called how to have you cake and skinny pants too. She calls it “Eating Cuz You Ate”. Essentially because we forbid certain foods we eat like there is no tomorrow because … there isn’t for foods that we feel shouldn’t be in our diet ever. At any rate the phrase “eating cuz you ate” pops in my head when I let a 50 calorie slip into a “off the diet” binge. Sometimes I am able to catch myself and redirect my behavior and other times it doesn’t occur to me until later.

@debster251 thank you for looking at the link and letting me know what you thought. It does so much for me to hear that you’re consistency losing and feel it will be lost forever.

Day 17 – McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD
I’m very late checking in. No headaches the last few days, but also no fasting. I bought a bunch of bananas and some coconut water and hope they will do the trick. I want a FD tomorrow so we shall see.

@molij & @okeydokey – The more I’ve thought about my headaches I think they are due to dehydration and possibly lack of potassium. I drink miso on FD’s so I don’t think it’s lack of salt. I will drink more water!!

    Still Day 17 –

@metatauta – are you full on Keto? I’ve got a Cloud bread recipe I haven’t tried yet. I’m exploring Keto but haven’t been serious yet.

@mia139 – great response to your friend

@jessyoursize – your 1st post went through with the @s before you posted that it wasn’t letting you post.

Off to teach evening adult class…planning to finish out controlled.

    Day 17 – USA – NFD

@AnnMarilyn, no I’m not totally keto. I was full on keto in the 90s when I was on Atkins. When I started 5:2 in January, I wound up finding a lot of LcHF sites on YouTube, which combined IF with LCHF. At first I scoffed at the thought of eating a “high fat” diet, but I researched it and once I understood the science behind it, I’ve been immersed in recipes, bought substitutes for rice, wheat, white flour, pasta and white bread, and styling my way of eating. I still have the keto strips, but believe it or not have not used them. What amazes me about this WOL, is that IF along with LcHF, 16:8 window of eating and 2 FDs a week at 500 cals, is that I have lost 22.8 lbs, slowly but surely, lowered my blood pressure, and am NEVER hungry. I don’t have cravings for anything sweet, white stuff, etc. I wish I could “talk” more, but I don’t want to bore anyone. My email is metatauta@hotmail.com if you want to talk more!

    Day 18/ CD 16:8/Melbourne Australia

Day 18 Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 FD
Up early today hopefully early finish too. 😁

    Day 18 Norway NFD

Yesterday was a NFD. Sat in my sofa trying to motivate myself to do some “grocery shopping”…actually there were a very good offer/on sale for toiletpaper 🙂 10NOK instead of 40NOK, so i felt i really should buy some. Argued with my self for about a half hour, and i think that what made me go was: “Today is not a FD, you can buy a small candybar (snickers) or maybe a “kokosbolle”, or maybe a small “bucket” of Ben&Jerrys”….so i went. BUT, when i came to the store, i wanted NOTHING. I read the kcal-content on the coconut-chocolate-ball-things(kokosbolle) but for some reason i just didnt feel like it… bought some toiletpaper and went home. Satisfied.

Later today im going on a cabintrip to Tvedestrand, hopefully i can stay in control, and hopefully i will manage my FD tomorrow.

    Day 18 UK FD

Two of the new rabbits are visiting the vet today to be neutered. Not before time, I just got well sprayed by one of them when I gave him his pre op breakfast. Definitely an overabundance of hormones there. As I put down his carrot and pellets he gave a little skip and flicked out his back legs and shot a great splash of urine over my arm. I am very glad he wasn’t in the top cage as then it would have gone in my face! Rabbits need to be fed before an operation unlike carnivores which need to be starved. They can’t regurgitate food anyway and their guts are at risk of slowing down or even stopping if their cycle is disrupted. They are meant to eat almost constantly. But what they are meant to eat takes a lot of digesting. So fasting is not for rabbits, except this big one of course.

    Day 18 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Great Liquid only FD yesterday until I got home from work and DH had or prepared my favourite meal, spaghetti bolognese (simple tastes, me 😉). I could not say no, and to be honest, I had not told him I was fasting yesterday. I was shocked to see that 100g of uncooked spaghetti is 350 calories though, so I reckon my one meal was well over 500 calories. Still counting it as a FD….and did lose half a pound overnight.

We had no power all day in work yesterday post Ophelia. It’s a glasshouse so we have plenty of natural light, but the laptop and printers were not working, but much worse, there was no water either, so could not use the toilet 😱. I immediately curtailed any water consumption (hard to do on a liquid only FD), and luckily I live a 6 minute drive from work so I had to take a few trips home for comfort breaks.

I am planning a B2B FD today, hopefully liquid only, but hopefully the power and water are back on in work today 😨

    Day 18 | Sydney Australia | NFD

Well I’m back into it with a vengeance:

    Day 13 FD
    Day 14 FD
    Day 15 NFD
    Day 16 FD
    Day 17 FD
    Day 18 NFD

And it’s 5:53 pm here and I’m already over my TDEE for today.

Still searching for moderation. Unsuccessfully. I am still losing weight but this is really disordered eating. I suspect that my blood sugar is all over the place after a couple of weeks off the rails eating lots of junk food, and it’s going to take another week or so before it (and my out of control appetite on NFDs) is under control.

I’ll hit the gym tonight, have something tasty and (hopefully) low calorie after that, then try and make tomorrow a FD.

I’ve strained my arches (I have very high arches that I need to be careful with… but often aren’t). They are on the mend now. I need to be much more careful in future. Nothing high impact for a while.

I love pounding out 10 km or so on the treadmill in an hour – the treadmill tells me that burns 1,000+ calories. Now I’m stuck with the exercise bike, which still tells me I’m burning 500 calories in about half an hour. My resting heartrate this morning was 52. Nobody would look at me and guess that I’ve got the resting heartrate of a very fit person.

I found a good article in the online news today about some very positive research on intermittent fasting. I will post that in the appropriate subforum.

Hi. I have now completed three Fast days. Ate about 800 calories each day. Weight remains the same. What am I doing wrong?

    Day 18 Belfast NFD

@aarjee, the only thing you are doing wrong is expecting instant results.

    Keep at it. Good luck.

What is your TDEE? If your TDEE is (for example) 1600 calories, then dropping to 800 calories for 3 days is only a total deficit of 2,400 calories. That is less than a third of a kilo, which is far less than the normal fluctuations caused by water retention etc.

Day 18, London, UK, FD (2nd of B2B2B)

Feeling ok after yesterdays’ LFD, @debster251, I managed to watch GBBO last night without raiding the ‘treat’ cupboard, but I think I was feeling so ashamed of the indulgent weekend that my willpower was through the roof. I just have to maintain this determination!!!

I’m hoping for that elusive whoosh this coming weekend and another one next week…………………. I’ll need them if I have any hope of reaching my October goal!!

    Good Luck everyone, stay strong!!!!

    Day 18, Gozo Malta

I will fast at 700/800 calories today. I must be more vigilant than the last two days.

Onwards and downwards have a great Wednesday everyone

    Day 18, Newcastle UK, NFD

Monday was a decent enough FD – at 658 cals. Yesterday was a NFD at just under TDEE. We went to see my great niece on her actual birthday yesterday and was given a tiny weeny caramel slice with coffee and an equally tiny weeny chocolate cluster. Neither were a proper mouthful. I then checked the calories to find the first was 62 calories and the second 47. What a complete waste of calories!!! Out for lunch with a friend today – I’ll make sure to be sensible. FD tomorrow.

@steve Toon Taxi Driver – Hope your daughter enjoyed her birthday. I know I’m being naughty to say that the 20 years between 37 and 57 will go even more quickly. I know. That old adage of live for each day and make the most of every minute and opportunity is so true. Where is your cruise to and which cruise line – I don’t think you told us.

@bluefootedruby – I tend to read each post as they come through on email on my phone as they provide much needed inspiration during the day. I then scroll through the entire previous day’s posts again each morning. But there again, I maybe have more time than others. I love to reach how everyone is doing and be able to comment in places.

@xoxo – as they say – ‘the proof is in the pudding’ regarding research – and fortunately with this WOL we are able to eat pudding from time to time – butter, sugar, flour and all – unlike other diets that require artificial sweeteners and other stuff that just does not hit the mark leading to eventual failure of that particular diet plan.

Looking forward to reading your stories @jessyoursize and @keetseel if you wish to share them later on. Perhaps Vivian Michaels joins our forum and recruits us all in her plan to save the world…..

@califdreamer – yes – I’ll sign up for that challenge – although I’ll probably have to adopt the 80:20 rule lol.

Please do talk more @metatauta – it’s that kind of information and experience that is absolutely pertinent to our forum. Anyone who doesn’t want to read can scroll down – but I bet most people will appreciate your knowledge. Ditto @big_bill – I love to read as much research as possible. It all serves as inspiration to keep going.

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong @aarjee. It takes days to a week for our bodies to respond. So long as you don’t undo your work on nonfast days, you’ll see results soon. Keep going – it works.

How you doing @lynzm? Missing your posts x

So another hospital visit for OH today. He saw the physio yesterday and his progress following total knee replacement is excellent. Three weeks today since the op and he’s well and truly over the worst of the pain. He’s standing doing the washing up as I type!

Have a good Wednesday folks – onwards and downwards. Thank you for all being here.

@aarjee following on from @big_bill ‘s response. There are a number of factors that may impact. The type of food you eat (high carb or too much salt) can cause water retention. Many of us find eating 800 calories on fast days too much. I’m 5’2, female, 65 years old, relatively sedentary and aim to eat between 250 and 500 calories on fast days. On FDs I only eat a small serve of protein and loads of vegetables. I avoid carbohydrates. What are you eating on NFDs? Are you undoing the benefits of fast days? I lost a total of 43 lbs at a steady rate of 1-2lb per week doing the original 5:2 but I’ve also changed the bad habits that caused me to gain weight in the first place.. I’ve been in maintainance since April 2015.

    Day 18….Florida…..FD

So, I fell of the wagon yesterday, the hole I fixed reopened. Will try to get back on track today. Tonight, I have a dinner date with my youngest, so looking forward to it but I think I’m just going to have a nice salad.

@xoxo…. I don’t put much stock into diet studies, only because I believe diets are so much more than the food you put into your body and the exercise punishment you inflict on yourself. If every diet was to be studied, I think they’d all fail. Diets are short term, to lose weight one must have a WOL change. Also, you have to be in the right mind set. Plus, I really believe that WOL and diets and which one to be on is based on the individual… No one size fits all. 5:2 works for me but may not for my friend.

So, last night I got a bug up my butt and scrubbed my oven. It feels great for it to be clean but I’m feeling the work this morning…..

I saw a little stiletto of a man, he’s on the loose, he’s on the loose carrying a can of fandango!

    Day 18 London FD

    Day 18 Wales NFD

Last time I got down to a size 12 I didn’t throw out the larger size clothes so as the pounds found me again I had a safety net. Stupid. This time it will be different and if the size 12s start to feel tight I will just have to do something about it immediately……and I don’t mean buying new bigger clothes…….I’ve got to start thinking like a ‘slim’ person. I bet naturally slim people don’t have clothes hanging in their wardrobes ranging in sizes from 12 to 20, I’ve even got one size 10 that has never fit but I bought it in a sale intending to slim into it!

@jessyoursize – I had a flu vaccine on Saturday morning and felt dreadful by Sunday evening and all day Monday. Aches all over. Never had such a reaction in previous years. Maybe the strain of flu this year is a real nasty. Liking your book synopsis – good luck with it.

@tsubaki – we visited Western Australia a few years ago and had a wonderful holiday, loved the Margaret River region.

@xoxo – I’m following the blood sugar diet on 5:2 and doing 2 FDs of up to 800 calories. Another option of the diet is more extreme with 8 weeks at 800 every day. If you don’t have the book have you seen Dr M’s BSD website thebloodsugardiet.com

@fatrabbit – thanks for this mornings bunny tale, made me giggle.

    Stay strong everyone.

    Day 18, Belfast, FD
    Day 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 – all NFDs

Staying at home for 2 days during storm Ophelia kind of messed up my FDs. I need to be at work, out of the way of the fridge/larder to successfully complete a FD. Hope everyone is OK after the storm, so sad that lives were lost. It did get a bit rocky where I live.

My motivation is very low at the moment but hoping today will kick start something again. I think I need to re-address my entire diet. I came across The Midlife Kitchen cookbook (Mimi Spencer/Sam Rice) in TK Maxx (bargain, bought it!) – it looks like a really good approach to healthier eating. Lovely recipes.
