  • Day 10 UK FD

Will fast again today till dinner time. This seems to work for me as I don’t really miss eating during the day. Plenty of water etc keeps me going till around 6 pm.

    Day 10, Belfast, FD

I’ve got three water bottles with me in work, so I’m determined to get back into the swing of things! Have indulged over the last couple of weeks so I’m looking forward to a major re-set.

@missybear I think Ireland were a bit lucky last night lol 😉

Good luck today everyone, let’s do this!x

    Day 10, NFD, UK

Day 10 Akron Ohio FD. Completed a successful liquid only fast yesterday. Mocha coffee in the morning and lots of water. I feel light as a feather this morning and I’m looking forward to another FD today.

    Day 10-UK-NFD x

May I join this challenge even though today is the 10th and I’ve missed 1/3 of the challenge?

Day 10 – Perth, Western Australia
    NFD – 64.2kg 🙁

    Day 10 – Reykjavik – NFD

@saffy420 – thanks! Iceland at World Cup 2018. This is enormous achievement for such a tiny country with population of only 335 thousand. I never thought I would live to see this happen.

I went to the game yesterday with my daughter and it was euphoric. There general atmosphere amongst the Icelandic fans is such a happy and positive one, a family spirit – we´re just so happy to be able to fight for a place amongst the best.

I realized yesterday that it was not a good day to fast, because of the game, so I broke the fast late afternoon and decided to fast on Wednesday instead.
But I didn´t celebrate the victory with a single beer. Quite pleased with myself there.

Simply a very happy man today 🙂

    Day 10…..Florida……FD

@Haapy go Lightly……..I’ll be more than happy to help along the way. This WOL is great and you far the easiest thing I’ve ever done. The best piece of advice, I can give you to start out is 1. Watch Dr. Mosley documentary, very insightful. 2. Stay with the basic plan, for a couple months, until you are your body get into the swing of things and 3. Stay connected, read the posts, let us know the good, bad and ugly, ask questions.
Take it one day at a time, restarting daily is necessary. I restart daily!
If you need to ask questions privately or anything else you can email me @ bert1802@icloud.com

Yesterday, was a ho hum day, I could have done better, so I’m gearing up for another FD today. I really want that facial on the 21st.

    Welcome @xoxo……

@fatrabbit….. glad your back, missed hearing about your rescue. I can just picture those little bunnies jumping for joy being in the wonderful home you have provided for them….

    Running a bit late, so I’m off……

I saw a little stiletto of a man, he’s on the loose, he’s on the loose, carrying a can of fandango!

    Day 10, LFD, Canada

Liquid fast day completed successfully yesterday! It was easy with 3 cups of coffee, 2 veg bullion cubes, 1 cup homemade almond milk- kefir and tons of water.

Will carry on today with another liquid only fast. Thanks to the pocket liquid fast group for support, thought of us all fasting together several times yesterday and it helped my resolve to stay the course.

Who’s in for liquids only today again?

Hello day 10 from co down ni LFD part 2 and still sweet free

@laurisinger – welcome why not try basic 5:2 as a way of life and once established tweak it if needs be.

@happy-go-lightly – make a promise to yourself to check in daily, that always helps with accountability but knowing @bert1802 I’m sure she will be more than willing to buddy up.

@missj2002 – there is always a reset button

@XOXOX – welcome. It’s never too late to join and there is still 2/3 to go

@califdreamer – horrific and devastating to read about the fires. I can’t begin to imagine watching fire engulf a home but thankfully your friends are alive.

Can’t remember who is doing liquid only today so I will start off the day 10 list. Managed yesterday but was very tired and went to bed early. Strange as always waking up with no hunger. Today So far so good but not looking forward to cooking for the family and trying to resist. Will have to keep plenty of water to hand. I can do this! I will do this!

Add your name to day 10 liquid fasters

    @coda
    @in-it-to-thin-it

    2nd post

@xoxo. – welcome to the group, I’ve added your name to the shared spreadsheet – it amends as you write on it, so is available to us all to use as we want:

Second post. I have decided to commit to another Liquid fast day, this will be the first time I am attempting this. Fingers crossed. My plan is Mocha coffee this morning and chicken broth for dinner with lots and lots of water in between.
My thoughts to our neighbors dealing with disasters in California, Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, St Martin, Mexico. The bad news just keeps coming but together we will overcome.

Adding myself to the liquid fasters
    @coda
    @in-it-to-thin-it
    @basyjames

2nd post – planning in advance – When I make it through this 3 day liquid fast (see what I did there)? not IF but when! What will I break my fast with? I am never hungry in the morning to eat so what do you suggest I bring to work to break my fast? Should it be berries with Natural yogurt with a little homemade granola? Should it be an avocado salad or another type of salad? There is only a microwave in work and I don’t use it so heating/cooking something in work is not an option. There is a local cafe run by one of our local radio presenters which offers lovely omelets or scrambled eggs, freshly cooked, along with other healthy options but that would mean I would have to limp up and back again and not sure if I want to do that. So bringing something with me is the best option but what? Homemade soup in a flask? I want my ‘Break fast’ to be nurturing – after all I haven’t completed this just to throw just anything down the gullet. Suggestions welcome.

    Day 10 – USA – NFD

Wow, is it 1/3 over already? @laurisinger and Happy-Go-Lightly, welcome! @daffodil2010, congrats on your 3 lb. dispatch and inch loss! @califdreamer, so sorry to hear your family lost their home…I know lives are more important, but it is still tragic to lose everything you’ve accumulated, especially memories, in your home over the years. I hope they are able to rebuild. @lynned, thanks for the recommendation of Twinings Spiced Ginger Tea; I will see if we have it here in the Southern US!

    Day 10 – USA – NFD
Second post: @coda, I would bring 1/2 cup of fat plain Greek Yogurt, with fresh blueberries or strawberries and a sweetener of your choice. I often eat this to feel refreshed and full the day after fasting, but since I’m home, I put it in a blender and make a smoothie out of it, adding a tiny bit of water. Comes to about 1 cup total, and less calories than you think.

@metatauta – good idea thanks. I can bring my bullet blender to work and make it fresh. Then maybe I’ll have a nice vegetable soup for the evening meal.

What a fabulously active and equally fabulously supportive group! I’m going to be a bit quiet today because, until I started reading the posts here, I didn’t know that Michael updated his book. I just got my kindle version updated and I am reading it now. I got started with fasting, as I assume many here did, after seeing the documentary. I was excited to start and then read the reviews and found out Michael had a new book, The Blood Sugar book, and I switched over to that. I have lost weight. Not as much as I would like. I have been bouncing around trying to find the perfect balance. At the moment I’m mostly settled on OMAD and some longer windows. I am going back to 5:2 or 4:3 to see if I can find my sweet spot.

So, here is my question as I catch up on the revised book. Today I am going to do a down-day. I might not eat tonight. Tomorrow I don’t really want to eat before 4:30 pm because I want to gracefully switch back to OMAD. Also, if I have a morning or noon meal I am having 2 meals in one day–and that seems to be undoing what I’ve accomplished. I see it has have zero meals one day followed by two meals the next and un-doing the advantage I am trying to give myself. Remember that on most days I have one meal. That said … I’ll be doing a 48 hour fast instead of 24 or 36. I don’t necessarily have a problem with that but …. I guess I will have to give it a whirl and see if it is the sweet spot I am looking for.

I also seeing a lot about liquid fasting. I hope that is in the book.

    I feel so green!!

I hope you all have a good day and THANK YOU for the welcome.

    Day 10 – Cumbria UK – FD

Well done to my successful fellow LFD from yesterday and 👍for anyone else who completed a FD as well

I had a great Liquid Fast Day yesterday with a total of 143cals consumed, coming from skimmed milk in tea and a glass of homemade kefir before bed – woke up feeling good!

A lovely hike in the fells near where we live this morning, climbing up to around 500m and have not broken my fast as yet with only tea with skimmed milk and water consumed so far – Weight this morning is below target at 54.2kg 💃 but still aiming to do a 500cal FD today!

@jessyoursize – good news on the partial recovery of your files – 3rd anniversary celebrated and many more to come – OH and I are celebrating our 37th at the beginning of Nov!!!!
@annemarilyn – still doing my no sweets/chocolate October but having sugar in cakes a couple of times a week when OH and I go our for our regular coffee and cake mornings – I admit it’s an easy version……
@laurisinger and @xoxo – Welcome to the challenge – why don’t you try the basic 5:2 initially and this may stop you overeating on your NFDs – @debster251 has already copied a very useful link for you to look at – I lost all my initial weight doing the basic 5:2 but now in maintenance I do 1xLiquid FD and 1x500cal FD each week for the health benefits and follow a 16:8 eating pattern – Have you read or looked at any of Dr Jason Fung’s videos about fasting – well worth investigating and good luck with your journeys!
@missybear – well done on your lower calorie FD yesterday – Together We Are Stronger!

    Good luck to those doing a B2B LFD – @coda @in-it-to-thin-it @basyjames

MOTIVATION IS WHAT GETS YOU STARTED AND HABIT IS WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING!

    Day 10 Canada FD

Reset time for me after a food filled weekend.

Day 10 – SW WA USA – NFD

Yes, liquid fast went well yesterday @coda but not joining for another today. Glad you’re continuing the no sugar. @at so when you say no sweets or chocolates, does that mean you’re not having candies? To me cakes are part of sweets. Interesting how we categorize things. I’m still having some sugar free sweets or chocolates; emphasis on everything is sugar free for this month.

    Together we are stronger!

@annemarilyn – I am doing an easier no sweets version too – no Sweets ie Candy or chocolate as in bars of chocolate. That didn’t stop me from having the Viennese Whirls (biscuits). It was the wine gums that were becoming a problem for me. One of my son’s girlfriends brought some chocolate home from Berlin but I have not touched them – however I did have a florentine at the weekend (absolutely delicious) (another to google @songbirdme if you are not familiar with them). They have a chocolate base but it is more the candy store type sweets I am giving up.

Day 10 = McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD
Wow I managed on liquids only yesterday! Now I know I can do it!! I must admit that I went to bed ridiculously early though 😴, that’s one way to avoid any temptation. Funny thing is I don’t feel hungry this morning. I didn’t loose much but my pants feel looser this morning.

My sisters and I leave for the coast today. I’m excited as we’ve reserved some fantastic restaurants for lunch and dinner. My challenge will be to keep it healthy and not over do.

@califdreamer – So sorry to hear about your families loss. I’ve been hearing about the fires and they sound awful.
@fatrabbit – Hugs to you for cold and foot recovery. ((((((Hug))))). I’m rooting for the little blind Guinea pig.

    Day 9 NZ NFD
    Day 10 NZ FD
    Day 11 NZ NFD

    Day 10, US, FD

Thank you all. For what? you might ask. I usually find my liquid FDs easy, but not today! I’m feeling cold and was really craving something hot and starchy, so I jumped on line instead and caught up on the posts. Now my motivation has kicked back in, my cravings have been kicked out and I’m sipping some Twinings Lemon and Ginger tea (tho I am going to keep an eye out for the Spicy Ginger which sounds really good) to help warm up.

Any tips on how to convince one’s OH to join 5:2? If we’re really honest there – and we are! – he needs to lose weight, and although he does eat fewer calories on my FDs (coz he can’t be bothered cooking) it’s not doing enough.

    Day 10 – ABQ – FD

So yesterday’s liquid fast day went so great! All the way until I got home. Poor hubby knew I’d had a rough night from him snoring like a bulldozer (cold front came through) and I just let him sleep since I knew he had a big thing going on at work yesterday; so to make up for it, he surprised me burgers, home-made fries (pan fried), and grilled peppers. I felt so bad, I told him I was on a liquid fast and his face just dropped. I told him I would love to eat with him, I’d just have only 1 burger with no bun, a smaller portion of fries and the bell peppers – it still came in at 455 cals. I feel bad I didn’t stick to my liquid fast, but I did keep it a FD, did do *almost* all day liquid, and since I am doing B2B2B, I get the chance to try again!

I know I probably won’t be able to do an all day liquid FD again today, since his dad will be popping through this evening, but I do intend on doing another FD – with liquids all day until dinner, and I’m hoping to keep dinner under 300 cals, and I will do a FULL liquid FD tomorrow. I’m thinking of this as “training”. I know I can make it until at least 7 on liquids only, so today i’m cutting the cals consumed after 7 in half-ish, and then tomorrow just not do dinner at all!

Also I can’t remember who had said miso is great for LFD – OMG you are a life saver! I love miso and that recipe for the soup is perfection! I can’t wait to have it again!

    @laurisinger, @happy-go-lightly and @xoxo welcome!
@laurisinger, as a lot of PP have mentioned, are you doing water (or liquid) only fasts 3 days a week? The 5:2 WOL really works if you start gradually doing either 500 cals (or the newly modified 800 cal), and do liquid fasts every now and then, though some 5:2 vets here do them on a schedule. By gradually working yourself in the lifestyle it really helps with the sabotaging on NFD. So glad you’ve joined us though!!
@daffodil2010, congrats on your 3 lb. GONE!!!
@flourbaby – Welcome back to the challenge! Sober October is gonna be good! And you are so right! I never thought this WOL would stick, or that I could do B2B much less B2B2B, and liquid only? But with the support of this group and seeing others successes (and learning ventures *not failures*) we really can do anything if we just say “why not?”!
@califdreamer, so sorry to hear your family lost their home 😰 Fires are terribly scary and I hope they are doing okay – I know the trauma of losing everything and having to escape the fire may still be with me (my fam was in Harvey). Good thoughts to them
@at, 37 Years! That is so wonderful to hear!! I love hearing about couples who’ve stayed together so long! Neither of our parents (or grandparents) stayed married for longer than 15 years, so it is so amazing to see and hear about couples who made it work and are still so in love!! 💕

And thank you to everyone who’s wished me well and a happy anniversary!!

    Day 10 Portugal NFD

Feeling rotten all day. Not sleeping so well and not drinking enough water. Anyway, I had a decent fast day yesterday probably around 800cal and so far NFD today is going well. no exercise today…no energy.

Day 10 Lancaster, PA US FD

Having a successful liquid only FD so far. Only water and 1/2 cup of sugar free low fat coffee so far. I’m trying to remember the benefits for the immune system as I make my way through my day.✨
@califdreamer So sorry that your family members have lost their home in the fire in CA. ✨🙏✨Prayers and healing light and love to you are your family. Praying your family gets the support that they need through the tragedy.
@coda since both of the options you suggested are healthy, I suggest the one you would most likely enjoy. I love the natural yogurt and berries, although I also love the avocado and salad. I also love homemade soup in a flask✨ It really depends on that day what would taste better for you!✨😊

    ✨Wishing Everybody Well ✨

Hi @afridgetoofar. Thought of you when browsing this forum: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/sleeping-issues/ Some good ideas there you might find useful.

    Has your sleep improved?

    Day 10 – 🇬🇧- NFD

Feel in need of a fast day – my b2b was beginning of last week, it was successful but not sure if I cancelled out the benefits over the weekend! I think I may have to go back to weighing weekly to keep motivated 😊

PS – tomorrow will be FD!!!

    Day 10, Norway, NFD

Stepped on the scale today, after successful FD yesterday. Happy number, going the correct way at least.

CD today…i think, maybe i need to do a “Lifesum”-count…

    Day 10 North Wales NFD

    Day 10, Emden Germany, NFD

    Day 10–ABQ–CD

Uh-oh. This is the first time I’d heard of “vanity sizing.” Any thoughts on this?

    http://time.com/how-to-fix-vanity-sizing/
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanity_sizing

    Day 10 London NFD

    Day 10 UK FD
This had been one of my hardest FDs ever. I felt hungry all afternoon, had my 350 cal meal two and a half hours ago and still feel hungry!
Only the thought of (hopefully) weighing a pound less at the end of the week, keeping me on track!

@penz I think the best thing you can do is lead by example and drop little snippets of what this woe can do for better health and prevention of illnesses. Good luck!

2nd day of liquid fast almost completed. Still not drank as much water as I should but still lots of trips to the loo. I got one of the boys to grate the cheese for their spag bol as i didnt trust myself not to slip a little into my mouth. Not as tired as last night but some rumbles from my tum. Its amazing how you can ride the hunger wave and it disappears. It has helped with OH also on board albeit he has some nuts and raw vegetables and veggie/fruit juice in the evening – other than that he has stuck to 1 black coffee and water thro the day. I’m actually really impressed by him. (hope for your OH to come on board yet @penz)

So for day 11 for liquid fasters who have we holding my hand

Add you name if you are joining me
    @coda

    Second Post:

@keetseel, Yes I have heard of this! I first heard of it when the whole “Marilyn Monroe wore a size 8” thing was coming out as a way to be more inclusive of plus sizes. I’m a bit into fashion myself and this is the hardest part – even similar brands will change their sizing up year to year or even style by style. I am interested in trying Le Tote, especially as I go down in size (Fingers Crossed) until I reach my goal weight, since it’s like renting clothes until I get to the size I want to be, and if I just LOVE something I could buy it.

I wish we would just do it by inches or cm or whatever. Like guys have it – one size for the waist, one for the inseam. Or going back to making clothes that fit, though back then most women (read “not wealthy”) rotated 3 or so dresses each year or so, and would only make a “new” dress when they could afford one. So I don’t know that it would be very effective.

I am all for a “universal sizing” method. One where maybe it could in the 3 categories “P” – Petite, “R” Regular, and “T” – Tall. Then within each category have sizing that matches certain specific measurements (ex: Size 2 shirt – Shoulder: xx cm, Bust: xx cm) and so on up to whatever the largest person would be.

    Norway, Day 10, NFD

Had an Ok day, not very controlled, but not too bad. I actually lost 1.1 kg /2.4 lb over night! I weighed mystelf befor I went to bed, and after going to the toilet in the morning, and I lost 1.1kg, that is so extreme! Just water, obviously, but anyway.

NFD again tomorrow, and then FD Thursday. I find the FDs have become a habit and not hard at all. It makes me actually believe that this is something I can do for the rest of my life and that when I reach my goal I will actually be able to stay there without having to work for it, just fast for it 😂

Going to bed now, have a good rest of Day 10 to friends in the West, and Day 11 for friends in the east 🙂

    @jessyoursize

Day 10 – West Midlands, UK – started as a FD, ended as and NFD

Well I tend to fast Tuesday & Fridays, and I started with all good intentions this morning, but between distrubed sleep Sunday night (due to kids) and not enough sleep last night (due to being a dirty stopout) I have been exhausted all day, for me that equals raging hunger, and a desire for sweet things….

about 2pm I stopped fighting the hunger, acknowledged that FD wasn’t happening, so that is pencilled in for tomorrow, as today will finish at about 1300 cals … still well below my TDEE so a victory of sorts.

@califdreamer – I am so sorry to hear about your family’s loss to the fire

    Laters

@keetseel – I knew a size 14 uk now is much bigger than a 14 I wore in my youth but I didn’t know there was a name for it. Interesting articles. I know the advice has been to cut the label out if it bothers you. Its a mind thing, it doesn’t do much for esteem fitting in to a lovely dress that does wonders for you but your not happy cus it’s one or 2 sizes larger than what you are or want to be. Or the delight in fitting into a size smaller. Not understanding the size label is practically meaningless. I hate changing rooms too but it’s seeing my wobbly bits from every conceivable angle as I try things on (shudder) lol.

    Day 9 – 11/CD/Dry October/Melbourne Australia

Sorry I haven’t posted much. Still reading all posts. Inspired by the many losses and determination. Enjoy a positive and healthy week. Take care and commiserations to those affected by the fires.

Day 10, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Second fast day in a row (500 calories or less at 7 p.m. each night) lots of liquids throughout the day – water and green tea.

Doing great with the exercises, so happy that I enjoy them so much.

Watching Fat Doctor – the UK series on weight loss surgery. Very interesting, and might I add that Dr. Somers is one cutie !!!!

I do wish all the patients well although I personally know a few people who have undergone the surgery and aren’t really that much better off. One has gotten so thin it is scary, she can’t really eat anything. Another has lost perhaps twenty pounds over the past year but that’s it.

Quite a battle, that’s for sure.

    2nd Post

Well I have brushed my teeth and only water will pass my lips now until bedtime – it ended up being an 800cal FD after all but I will take that!

@annemarilyn – no sweets/chocolates/biscuits/candies….etc but 2 slices of cake per week allowed – I don’t normally eat puddings but will cut these out completely for October ☺️
@coda and @songbirdme – Florentines are simply divine and not difficult to make at home either…..
@califdreamer – So sorry to hear about your families loss. The fires in California sound awful……xx
@jessyoursize – thank you – OH and I are very lucky – we have a DD who is going to be 29 soon and we still have good times together 👨‍👩‍👧

For those who are having a poor night’s sleep – Pukka Night Time tea combines oat flower, lavender, and limeflower together with valerian to help soothe you into a place of restful sleep – worth a try!!!

To those who are struggling a bit – PLEASE KEEP GOING WITH THIS WOL – IT WORKS!
This from someone who has lost over 35lbs/2.5stones/16kg and maintained that loss for the past 10 months. The health benefits of this WOL is a key reason I see this as a lifestyle and not a diet – weight loss is a very happy byproduct 😊

I thought I would share my personal motto on this journey “Losing weight is a mind game – change your mind – change your body”
I see fasting as a permanent part of my life going forward as it has allowed me to achieve my goals in weight loss and improved my mental and physical health and it has shown me that I am much stronger than I thought I was!!
And best of all I have learnt that I do not have to give up all the things I enjoy – a nice glass or two of wine – a lovely piece of cake …….etc. BUT I DO NOT HAVE to drink/eat it every day and in such large amounts as previously to be satisfied!!!!!
Remember – IF YOU CHANGE NOTHING THEN NOTHING WILL CHANGE!

Could I join today or is it too late to join ? 😳. I desperately want to loose 5 to 8 kgs before December 10 th. So 2 months from now. My lifestyle is sedentary almost.

The fires in California are just heartbreaking. Prayers for all affected.

@bhondo, happy to have you with us. We’re a really friendly international group. I’ve added you to the spreadsheet :

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oHFqnmdzVCzauz5eJOzqQfuHywXgRwErhMyTS3MSHog

It’s up to you if you use it. You’ll find we’re very supportive and helpful. Good luck for October’s challenge.

Day 10 -USA (Illinois) – FD

Today is my 1 FD with 6:1 maintenance. Son made a very low carb egg dish for us this morning before I took him to the airport bus. So, small salad for supper will be about 500 or so calories today.

@califdreamer – whew, so sorry to hear about all the CA fires and how they have effected your family. Hugs to you all!

    Onward and downward.
