Welcome Diana, What a nice lot of weight off, I was landed with 3 lb off in 4 days, it’s slowed down now but I only want to lose about another 4 or so. I am a weight watcher as well as 5-2 I am really enjoying 5-2 I am never hungry on fast days but I have to watch what I eat on the non fast. But I am getting there. JIP
I have to watch what I eat too. I have tried all kinds of diets but have to agree that I am enjoying this one so far. I don’t seem to feel hungry at all. I even resisted alcohol over the weekend. Losing 5 lbs has really motivated me but I know it won’t be as much as that every week. Well done on your weight loss.
Hi David your history that I was talking about was on yours thread on the 2nd May at 9.28am it was a running description of your torment. LOL I wish I had a good memory to let you know how I have done. I will just say slow but sure, I will not give up. I still go to WW my class Tuesday Mornings I go with my sister and about 5 friends all at different stages of our journey. I am sure you could go to any WW class just to purchase a pedometer they would be glad to get the sale. Have a look on line to find your nearest class. Failing that I would purchase one for you and post it to you if all else fails. Happy fasting JIP
Evening everyone and welcome to Diana, we’re getting to be a large family now!
Jip you’re like me and not wanting to lose much so I imagine you’ll find the same as I am in that the weight comes off very slowly. I also have to watch what I eat on non-fast days because the temptation to over eat once I’ve started is always there, what’s weird is that I’m fine on fast days 🙂
So today I’ve exercised like a woman possessed! Well as possessed as any woman of 51 could exercise lol. I’ve walked for over an hour, blitzed my house from top to bottom, skipped for 10 minutes (an improvement of 3 minutes on last week) and done my 7 minute workout. So then I needed a nap in my conservatory before having a humungous ham salad! Couldn’t face another walk this evening so my daughter was forced to do it instead. I’m hoping I’ll at least drop half a lb this week after not losing for 3 weeks.
Hope you’re feeling better soon David – I had a nasty virus about a month ago and still coughing every now and again now.
Well I’ve got a cup of tea and a low cal hot chocolate left and that’s me for the day then back to normal eating tomorrow 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your Bank Holiday folks x
good evening to everyone 🙂 well i have had my last meal (my tea) and i feel as though i have had a good fast day,
Welcome to Diana1967 ,where in Rochdale are you ? i live just off kingsway , as for my fast days I do tend to stick with breakfast , lunch and tea. but i split my 600 calorie alowance between the 3 .
the thing i like most about this diet system is the flexibility ,it is really usefull when family occasions pop up.
Yes Karen we are getting to be a big family now, Its brilliant so i do hope our newcomers stay with us , because we can all help each other
JIP you are so kind , offering to that for david , good for you x
ok I will have another look in before i go to bed , so ta ta for now and remember the Calorie force is with us all 🙂
Thank you everyone again for making me feel welcome.
Ken – I live just off Edenfield Road near Cutgate so not that far from the football ground.
I want to lose about 35 lbs in total and I am prepared for it to take some time. I have an exercise bike which I try to use daily and work out to various aerobics dvds. This is my eighth day on 5:2 and my third fast day. Next one is Wednesday.
How often do you all tend to weight yourselves?
Hi again Diana, I am afraid I weigh almost every day, that just keeps me in touch, if I lose I want to keep going and if I gain well, all Hell is let loose and gets back on track again, like giving up my favourite tipple of Rum and Diet coke, which I have band to the garage so I am not temped to get one every night or weekends if I am trying to be good. JIP
flower power:
5:2 is not about not eating (fasting) for whatever period of time. It is about calorie restriction.
The way 5:2 works is that you go to bed, get up the next morning and during your waking hours eat 500/600 or fewer calories, go to bed, get up and eat normally for that day.
There is nothing in 5:2 that requires you to not eat for a certain period of time – just that you severely restrict your calorie consumption for two days a week.
Good Luck!
Finally the wagon didn’t leave without me for the last 2 days. Had a successful fast day on Monday, and I must say the morning after fast day (this morning) I didn’t even want breakfast, what!!! this has never happened, usually as I’ve mentioned before, if i don’t eat within half hour or so of getting up i turn into mrs major cranky pants, and sometimes even feel physically sick. Im liking this change, in fact today i didn’t really care to eat until about 11am, and even then I was sort of pushing the food around on my plate, this is good 🙂
Under cals today on non-fast netted only 1200, but i just don’t feel like eating anymore food today (I can’t believe that! – stunned)
and with that thought, i’m off to sleep to dream about healthy, long living, skinny me…. Goodnight all.
I don’t even feel like weighing myself, pfffah! who cares!! (who is this person who has taken over my body – i like it!)
non-night (she still drivels as much as the other one…!)
Hi All, I have just spent an hour reading this thread and want to join in!! I have just started 5:2 and your motivation is just what I need to keep me going. I have a lot to lose – about 4 stone but am in no rush and just want to get healthier for my family. I work from home, which can be difficult but Ive decided I have just got to get on with it. Any words of wisdom would be gratefully received!

please help with some nice, easy and home cooked recipes. Many thanks x
Hi! Fast day today, went very well, however I have been quite poorly these last 2 days and today it was a nightmare at work so turned in really early. I think I might need a bit of help: I have been on IF for 2 months now but have mostly done 4:3. Lately I seem not able to do more than 2 fasts per week. I know for some of you 5:2 has worked miracles but I suspect that if I turn from 4:3 to 5:2 I will have terribly slow results (one pound a week would be enough for me, wouldn’t be terrible at all). FYI I am 158 cm tall (hm…. better short), started at 73,6 kilos, I am now around 66,5 kilos (can’t be sure, asked my husband to hide the scales till Friday, I would get on around 10 times a day!!!). I would be perfectly happy if I could reach 58 kilos but this is a long term goal. For now, 3 more kilos till July would do. So I was thinking maybe play a little? I am fasting Tuesdays and Thursdays. I water fast and normally tend to eat around my TDEE on non fast days (although next stop: stop counting/obsessing with calories). So I was thinking I could experiment a bit: Monday 20:4, Tuesday fast, Wednesday TDEE, Thursday fast, Friday TDEE, Saturday 20:4, Sunday maybe TDEE or a little above ( since I intend to eat up to my BMR on 20:4 days). It’s actually still 5:2, since there will be no further calory restriction, but the effects of fasting for some hours on fastest weight loss are all over the Internet. Go:)))
Hello everyone , and welcome to Lizzie , Paradise and Frsnfit.
we all say on this thread that we are here for each other and as our little family of fasters (as Charmaine would say) seems to grow each day it is very reassuring to have all this support
I feel tired tonite so i will sign off till tomorrow
First of all well done Mel, you’re doing well and who cares who has taken over your body anyway lol!
Welcome newcomer Paradise, we’re friendly bunch on here and you’ll get plenty of encouragement. Anything you want to ask feel free and someone will try to help.
Flowerpower – that fasting menu might get a little..ahem…boring after a couple of fasts so I’ll tell you what I eat on a fast day.
I don’t eat breakfast (which is fine for me because I normally don’t get hungry untill mid-late morning anyway so I have a cup of tea with skimmem milk when I get up and around 10-10.30 I have a low cal hot chocolate.
Lunch is either usually a large bowl of homemade veg soup (or a slimming world tomato soup, look online)
For tea I usually have either an omelette made with 2 eggs, a couple of slices of ham, mushrooms, frozen peas (defrosted), pepper, onions or whatever’s in the fridge left over with salad. Or a salad made with everything you can think of and ham or chicken. Sometimes I have a 10 cal jelly and finish off with another hot choc for supper. With a few cups of tea and skimmed mild it all comes to just under 500 cals for the day.
Hope this helps
Karen x
Morning guys hope everyone is well this morning (well this evening for you Mel).
Well done on another loss Charmaine, you’re doing great :-)1.5 lbs is good going for the week and you may lose a little more by Friday.
I’m the same weight as yesterday morning but actually quite surprised because I was very naughty yesterday and had lots of bad things (slaps herself on the wrist)! I’d been shopping and bought cookies and a few other treats and then decided to eat some but I think the walking and hula hooping must have stopped a gain this morning. I got the hang of the hula hooping fairly quickly, I think it’s fairly easy because it’s weighted so I did about 5 minutes in 3 goes. It does makes you’re waist a bit sore so might need some padding or something around there as I build up. Anyway the reviews for losing inches round the waist and toning up the mid-section are good so I’m going to keep persevering.
Lovely day again here in the North East of England so I’ll be going off around the park shortly with Harvey, hope everyone has a good day, be good (I’m going to try to today)and we’ll check in later.
x
Good morning to everyone ,
I feel really good this morning and get this , I am looking forward to my Fast day (tomorrow) Mel HELP !! I think some has taken over my dody too Ha Ha Oh yes Mel I , Like Karen, like the person who has your body lol . Gosh we are a daft lot 🙂 but its great
Charmaine . Well done on your weight loss again, Now I hate to go on about it but I do hope Karen , Mel , David and a few other agree that WE do want to see you in your blue dress (its sounds simply stunning ) SO you have to get it on (parden the pun) get a picture taken and get it on facebook
xxx ( 3 kisses) ok pleeeeeese lol go on do it for the family 🙂
Karen I am going to monitor how you do with your hula hoop, Have you measured your waist before you start ?
And it is a nice morning down here in deepest Lancashire lol 🙂
Diana did you go to the town center last night , It was brilliant , a fantastic turn out for our promotion winning team’s open top bus parade.
flowerpower . Like Karen says you just ask away and you will get a fantastic response from this thread , as you may have gathered we are all one big happy family 🙂 as for my fast days I usually have for breakfast a soft boiled egg , slice of toast (Small bread) or 6 asparagus (they are cheap enough in Aldi) , glas of tomatoe juice and coffee with just a spalsh of skimmed milk
Then for lunc it is a salad or 250ML of homemade veg soup with a cracker ;; At tea I vary it between fish (Smoked haddock ) done in skimmed milk in the oven with veg or chicken with veg , but my calorie count is always just below 600 cal for the day 🙂 and i drink lots of water (soda Water) with a slice of lemon or lime also herbal tea ( there are some nice flavours out there
Gosh thats a lot from me I do hope it helps and i expect a few kisses back ha ha only kidding x 🙂
Morning all…well the first day went well, no where near as bad as I thought it would be, however that may be because I booked our summer holiday and that is a real motivator! 11 weeks until we go!
Can I ask what everyone has for breakfast, both on and off a fast day? I always turn to toast and im sure that is what sets me off eating.
Off to walk the doggies in this lovely weather and then work this afternoon. Hope everyone has a good day. x
Hiya Paradise , I guess you will have read my response to Flowerpower , hope that is some help for you as for my non fast days I dont tend to calorie count at all , for my breakfast i have cerial Kelloggs cornflakes with ice cold milk are my favorite , but i think life is to short to calorie count every day having said that since i started on the 5:2 (about 5 or 6 weeks now) I am very aware of my portion size , I have reduced it a lot and i mean a lot , plus i have stopped snaking completly 🙂
lets keep life simple 🙂
paradise1, I find a higher-protein breakfast keeps me fuller longer any day of the week. Eggs with 1/2 slice toast or cottage cheese or hard cheese with fruit or 2-3 crackers or Greek yogurt with cocoa powder, instant espresso powder, vanilla and a teaspoon of agave nectar or Greek yogurt with an equal amount fresh or defrosted frozen fruit are all good (whole fruit seems OK; juice is guaranteed to have me hungry two hours later). Not commercially sweetened yogurts, they all have way too much sugar for me.
Well done to everyone who has lost weight. I have stayed the same over the last few days. I had hoped to have lost something after my first fast day of the week (Monday) but I didn’t. Today is fast day number two for this week.
Paradise – For breakfast I usually have cereal or on fast days a few strawberries. I am not a big fan of breakfasts and could quite easily go without.
Ken – I didn’t know about the parade until I saw some photos on facebook. It is my brother who is the big football fan not me. He lives in Blackpool and has been a season ticket holder for many years. I am very happy though that they gained automatic promotion.
I see some of you do hula hooping for exercise. Is it a regular hula hoop you use and where did you get it from? I was quite good as a child but can’t seem to grasp it now I am older.
I have also been weighing in daily sometimes several times a day. I agree it is a good way to see how I am doing and to think about changing something if I am gaining rather than losing.
Are most of you living the ok?
Enjoy the rest of the evening.
Diana
Hello to all ,
Diana , i only weigh in once a week usually on a friday morning after my fast day on thursday (Tomorrow) , so what i will do tonight is sort out my menu for tomorrow so i know exactly what i am going to be having and when, the only things i dont count is my water and herbal tea intake, I just drink as much soda water as i can when i feel hungry, 🙂
flowerpower good for you girl, I do hope your fast day has been good for you today, let us know how you got on ok 🙂
Paradise when is your next fast day ? 🙂
ok i know there are a few of us fasting tomorrow so lets all check in as soon as we can, and be here for each other . its going to be a good day 🙂
will pop on later before bed time
Hello good people. I’m getting ready to leave work (2:11pm on Wednesday) and it’s always a delight to pop in and read the threads / forum. Hello new people. This is a positive and diverse group. A good place to learn, share and lift up others.
David, I’m on antibiotics and on the mend, as you are. Besides battling spring allergies in my agricultural heartland (Midwest USA, Kansas City, Missouri) I did volunteer work at a food pantry for homeless on Saturday. Our task was to paint the bathrooms, however, we couldn’t paint without first cleaning mildew and mold off the walls — there had been a slight flood. I know. It was bad. Between the spring allergies and mold, I developed a sinus infection and cannot exercise until Friday; doctor’s orders. Back at work today but I plan to be in much better shape by Friday. I do think David should take over the loose trouser dance steps, as Ken and I would most likely do the dad and mom dance where we swing our arms and shuffle our feet (Ken’s earlier reference.)
Mel, I so appreciate the fact that you call your partner your best friend. I have a relationship like that, too, (35 years) and am so blessed. It was a bit dicey during the early years but we’ve both learned what’s important in life.
Enjoying reading progress reports. Excited for new posters.
Someone asked about food prep. I’m an ’empty nester.’ In other words, my children are young adults and living on their own. I no longer prepare meals for a household of people. That makes it easier. Husband is in good shape but he’s trying to eat more vegetables and fruit and less meat. I rarely eat meat. We discuss meal choices and it’s been easy since he’s working with me.
I think I’ll modify my fast days. Wednesday night is book club and a social time. I generally don’t snack with the group because I’m fasting and sometimes I get a headache.
A hearty hello to all. No slight intended if I didn’t call you all out by name. The group is growing and that’s a good thing. Kind regards…. Jean
Hi all, fast day went very well. Breakfast: banana
lunch: ww soup and 1 white bread
dinner: ww soup tin and 1 white bread. Pudding yogurt.
plus herbal teas, coke zero and squash. I also went to plyo grit tonight hard work but felt better after i did it. Not on fast tomorrow because walking long walk so decided better not fast plus body pump in evening.
finding fast days a bit easier now. I always look forward to see what everyone has written and what had happened to them throughout day. Speak to all tomorrow night x
Morning gang. I’m a bit peeved this morning as I appear to be up by 1.5 lbs 🙁 What is that all about? The only thing I can think is that hubbie and I shared a large bag of crisps last night and maybe it’s salt that is making me retain water or something. Anyway fasting today but not expecting a loss again in the morning – don’t think I’m going to lose 1.5 lbs overnight somehow. I also have bruises around my hips from hula hooping so I’m going to stop until they go away. I did google it and apparently it’s common and shouldn’t happen again when my body has got used to it so we’ll see. Back to work this morning so I won’t be going for such a long walk today but going to stay under 500 if it kills me!
You’re doing well flowerpower. Not sure what plyo grit is so maybe you could enlighten us?
Charmaine, I know what you mean about ‘that time’. Happens to me too but I can’t say it’s that causing my water gain this morning!
Nice to hear from you again JeanDee, hopefully those twisters are long gone now. I too have a best friend in my husband. It’s a second marriage for both of us and June 2nd will be our 9th anniversary and we’re still like a couple of kids at times. He’s my rock and I love him to bits. Next year he’s 50 (he’s 2 years younger than me so I bagged a toyboy lol) and it’s our 10th anniversary so we’re going to celebrate with a trip to Glasgow in Scotland for his birthday (we’re going to a model rail exhibition because it’s his hobby) and a trip in June to Tunisia, looking forward to both of them.
Well I’d better go and get ready for work so have a good fast Thursday fasters and let the calorie force be with you 🙂
