  • I was a disaster all last week. Comfort eating to beat the band. Didn’t bother to weigh myself. Slept in for my gym class this am. Could easily pack it all in and go shopping for bread!! But it is just after midday and I haven’t eaten so maybe today is the day I’ll get back on track. I have fallen but I can still get back up. Must not give up. Good luck everyone.

    I can totally relate to your previous week, I have had many. Unfortunately, on those weeks I think in for a penny, in for a pound and eat all the wrong things. It is a new week and sounds as if your back on track. Don’t give up for the reason of having a bad week. Bad weeks make good weeks great and you never know what the scales will tell you. Check in later and let us know how your doing.

    Hi all, first fast day since being back from my vacation. Didn’t fast during that but did try to eat reasonably. I ate far too much bread as usual and mostly had a small cooked breakfast each morning. Oh yeah, and wine and cider. Lots of it.

    So! I am not going to measure myself this Thursday. I will wait until another week goes by because I might get upset! Lol

    So far today all is well. I have been looking forward to fast days. I really want to get right back on track again.

    I will pop by later with my calorie intake.

    Reached 458 today. So enough left over for a cup of tea and a very small nibble!

    Felt good. Really don’t want to waste all my hard work because of my weeks vacation.

    Well done Katie. Hope you had a fab holiday! I have done really well today too. Hopefully I will make it to bedtime without doing any damage. I’m at 400 calories approx. Feel like I’m back on track.

    Well done with the fast ladies, not long to go. I am at 458 cals but really craving warm toast. Been difficult today as have been at home all day.

    Sounds like everyone had a reasonably good day today.
    As I only managed one fast last week and had 2 very busy socialising weekends I might not weigh in this week as I’m really trying not to get hung up on the scales as I don’t find its giving me the true story of my weight loss.
    Think I may be just under 500 today as I ate a salad with a 2 egg omelette and I’ve just had a yoghurt. No intention of eating until at least 1 pm tomorrow.

    Must confess I have become a bit of a phony. I love this page and read it on my fast days to give me support. But for some time I find that after day one ( Monday), I feel good the next day and not hungry, so I fast 2 consecutive days, and am all done and dusted until after the following Monday.

    But I make it suit my life style, if going out Tuesday or Wed I alter my days. This is a diet for life but it must not rule our lives. Wish me luck today.

    I’m having a hard time at the moment, not fasted for a few weeks, and the fast 5 doesn’t really work for me.

    I know you all say it’s harder on a hot summers day, that’s everyday for me!!.

    I’m not complaining, because I love the sun, but its 40 degrees every day, and will power just goes out the window when there’s so many people around me on holiday.

    Food choices are easy, really only eating salads, it’s the beer, wine etc…

    Hi Emma, do you know what life’s just too short to beat yourself up about your weight. You’ve only a few pounds to lose now so stop worrying about it. Even though I completely empathise with what you’re saying.
    If you feel like having a fast day or a low calorie day do it if not its not the end of the world. Enjoy the summer and a glass or two of wine and beer. Try and stay within your TDEE and you won’t gain. I’ve stuck to my fasts apart from last Monday and I’m not getting weighed as I don’t feel it gives at true reflection on my loss. As long as I don’t gain more than a pound or two I’m not getting hung up on it. I was reading an article about IF yesterday and it said not to weigh yourself all the time as our bodies fluctuate in weight hourly but by intermittent fasting we will lose but slowly. (I’m happy with that)
    I’m off to Poland for 4 nights next week and I’m going to enjoy myself without worrying about anything.
    You can pick up again when the tourists have gone home.
    I’m not telling you to give up just don’t be too hard on yourself. You won’t get this time back again. X

    Nomadicelt, totally agree with you about the day after fasting. it is a good feeling.

    Emma, I am in your camp as I have been totally struggling to get back on track after the never ending cold which lasted 3 weeks. Never actually managed a fast yesterday as ended up having 3 slice toasted cheese (tasted great) so ended up 780 cals. Fasting today to make up for it but plenty of time to do damage. On a positive my big moon face looks a wee bit thinner but it is more likely that my hair is bigger. Anyway need to keep trying.

    Well fast has been ok today after I totally blew it yesterday. Veggie fajitas for dinner and no carb craving. Plan to have an early night to reduce the risk of snacking. Hope this new found willpower lasts during tomorrow’s fast. Feels more like early autumn rather than summer so hearty home made soup defrosting for my fast.

    Emma, am sending you some of the new found willpower in hope that you feel a bit more able to deal with the social challenges. However, please send me some back for the next 2 weekends as they have the potential to be gin fuelled.

    After my fast went well yesterday I forgot to tell you that I woke up at 5am this morning and at 6am I had a beef spread sandwich and a packet of crisps LOOOOL

    I like your style Michelle! I had a good day. Stayed low calorie and I’m planning ahead for tomorrow. Cooking for my parents tomorrow evening which might be a challenge. Any good websites for fast day recipes???

    Just wondered if I could join you?

    Elc – I could have written your first post myself!
    I did the 5:2 successfully for about 6 months last year and got down to a good weight but stopped at Christmas and never got back on the wagon so piled on the weight again.
    I started again about 6 weeks ago and lost 6lbs but put a lb back on last week as I was eating badly on my non-fast days. I have a very similar problem – I like having a glass of wine or two and once I start eating sweet/bad things I can’t stop. We also have quite an active social life and most of this revolves around going out and having a drink so is hard not to do this.
    I fast on Mon and Wed as I’m at work and find it easier. I did 4:3 one week and lost 2lbs that week and think maybe I should try to do this more often (to cover the extra calories on non-fast days!) but find it difficult to do on a day when I’m not at work as I graze.
    I’m 5ft 8 and 12st 2lbs and would like to get down to about 11 st so quite a way to go!

    Hannah – was reading your post (just catching up with them all!) and wondered how you fasted?
    I’ve heard that doing back to back fasts can kick start weight loss again (this happened for my friend) and also having longer fast periods can help e.g. only having fluids all day and then just a meal at night. I do this and never thought that I would be able to go all day without eating but actually find it easier. If I eat something in the day it kind of sets off my appetite and all I can then think about is food. Also, it means I can have a fairly good meal in the evening which fills me up for going to bed and generally I use less than 500 calories in the day.
    Short bursts of high impact training (HIT) can help too (there’s threads on this on the forum). That can be literally doing three minutes of exercise (at high intensity) three times a week.
    Just a couple of ideas.

    Disappointed because my salad this time was dull and so bland I actually couldn’t finish it. Won’t be having that salad again. 🙁

    Katie, being over by 12 cals is nothing although a pain in the bum going over and you didn’t enjoy the food. Well done, sounds like your on track.

    Only fluids so far. Soup for dinner which should leave me extra cals for toast if need be. Got 2 boozey weekends coming up so really need to try and have cal deficit in hope to ondo some of the gin damage or hangover munching.

    Just had all my calories on a bagel with cream cheese and honey smoked salmon…..was worth every delicious bite.
    Got to try and last out until tomorrow now.
    I have tried to redeem myself this week by doing a section of Davina intense on my fast days.
    Lazy you really do love your toast don’t you?? Must admit I do love a slice of white toast with best butter. Mmmmmm!! Are there a lot of calories in gin? Not as bad as cider I wouldn’t think

    Michelle, your soo right I do love my toast especially with cheese. Gave up bread for a while as gluten free bread was awful but have discovered a good one. Well onto my favourite subject gin, not only great in taste but great in cals- 52 cals per measure. This should work out in theory as low in cals. My problem is that I like to taste my gin so usually have a double especially if it is good gin. My view is if you are going to drown good gin with tonic them I would be as well slumming it with Mr Gordon. Sorry for prattling on, I can become a gin snob/bore!

    Lazy I’m not sure as I’d worry too much about the Gin..and I’d be bored without your tales of gin haha..I’m more a vodka,cider or Pimms drinker and I like a full fat mixer with em so way up there in calories. Really couldn’t give a stuff on the calories at the weekend though. Plenty of polish vodkas next week but won’t be eating much as if it’s anything like the meals in Prague I’ll stick to the booze 🙂

    Am sure once the first few gins slide down my greedy throat cals will be the last thing on my mind. The only thing that is usually in my head is where is my next gin? Oh I do like Pimms and cocktails too.

    Me too. Had a couple of biscuits and toast to soak up all the fluids that I have drank today. Fed up being up all night to go to the toilet on a fast.

    Well at least we know that we don’t retain fluids. No fear of up at the toilet tonight as had plenty of carbs, just count it as a low cal day. Shouldn’t really be surprised when I don’t lose weight with my attitude and will power.

    My daughter has just started w w and asked me to do it with her. I said I can’t be miserable 7 days a week so I’ll stick to the 5:2 thanks.
    Im chucking the scales out and going on the measurements from now on. Don’t seem to have lost anything on the scales for a month but I seem to be measuring a wee bit less round the hips and waist. Taking a while but I’m in no rush….well could do with losing a few more cms before I put my bikini on in September.
    Lazy my attitude can be bad sometimes I’m like oh sod it then regret it the next day …..I’m like Jekyll and Hyde :/

    Hi all! Gin and chocolate desserts eh??! Tut, Tut!! I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Even if you have gone over and are at 750 calories that’s still a deficit. If you are reasonably good on your non fast days then you will still drop pounds. That said I’ve been angelic today and have just rounded it off with a 9 cal jelly. Up early tomorrow to bake a raspberry bakewell cake for afternoon tea. Bring it on!!!

    Yep think Lazy and I are on the naughty step this week. Think I may have hit 700 cals. Not over eating on non fast days. Generally eating one meal a day and maybe a desert.
    A 9 cal jelly?? You are angelic.

    Oo rasberry bakewell tart sounds delish. I made a rhubarb and apple crumble last week a quiche a lemon drizzle cake and scones. No lemon drizzle left but scones and crumble still hanging around in the fridge and cake tin so I can’t have been too bad 😉

    Nothing lasts in my house!!! I’m a disaster. I’m delighted I had two good fast days. Will keep trying and see how the weigh in goes next week. Happy but hungry going to bed. It’s like winter here…… Would almost consider a hot water bottle.

    I did say last week that we should all go to bed at 5pm!!!.

    We all seem to have the same evening lack of will power.

    1lb on for me this week, not surprised in the slightest. I think the only reason it’s not more, is because I’m swimming every afternoon. The only problem with that is, there’s a bar right next to the pool!!!!

    If I was lucky enough to be swimming in the sun every afternoon I’d just enjoy it! Life is short. I’m in Donegal which is in the north west of Ireland. The rain keeps it green and beautiful. We have miles and miles of beautiful beaches which we enjoy…… For walking!! I do think it’s easier in the winter – when the sun is out life is more social. Lots of people around to have drinks with which (in my case) leads to lots of day after hungover munching of pure rubbish. Don’t beat yourself up for enjoying life.

    had my weigh in and delighted to say that 1lb off. That will be me for the next 3-4 wls with either remaining the same, 1lb the a wee 1/2lb down. Anyway it will hopefully increase my motivation to stay on track and stay off the naughty step.Think I am going to try and stick with 5 fast Mon-Fri with 2 fasts during those days. Although I am finding fasts difficult at night, think Elc is right about going to bed at 5.00pm.

    Elc, you will get back into the zone in no time. Have you considered switching the wine for an odd gin at 52 cals. Sorry I am spreading the gin gospel. I will have you all like me and a total gin lush. Not a good look.

    Lazy, I don’t think its the calories in the alcohol, it’s the food I crave whilst drinking, nuts crisps etc.

    I do like a gin and tonic, but not in the daytime or early evening, it goes straight to my head.

    Elc, I am the same when drinking but more so the following day if I am hungover. Are you still doing the 5 fast? I am trying to do it Mon-Fri which appears to be going ok but still having 2 cups of tea during day. Are you off work for the summer? I was thinking if you are it would be really difficult to get motivated and stay on track.

    To be honest I am the same. Usually only 1 fast during 5 fast but have been staying within TDEE around 4-5 days. Really need to get back into it this week. 2 nights out next weekend so will try to only drink one night and very little alcohol on the other night. Best laid plans and all that.., will need to wait and see.

    Well folks it is nearly Monday again and I am totally ready for a fast day. Munched all weekend ranging from crisps, fizzy cola laces, biscuits and crackers and cheese. The sweet stuff is starting to sneak in again, as if am not already bad enough with the savory. Anyway soup is defrosting for tomorrow.

    Was a disaster yesterday. Slightly better today. Not fasting this week as I’m in Dublin with my mum (she is having surgery) it’s just too awkward to try and fast. Plus I’ve paid good money for my hotel breakfast!!!!! I do love a big, long hotel breakfast. Here’s hoping it doesn’t let me down. I will have breakfast and then fast until dinner. I will resist the temptation of the hospital cafeteria – it’s really good!I wish you all luck with your week and will check in to see how you are doing.

    Back on 5:2 as no other diet is working for me im going to fast mon and wed today being the first day.need to lose 10lbs asap have a holiday in 3 weeks and would like to get as much off as possible

    Fasting today and had a 279 calorie ready meal. Hoping I can last out until tomorrow. Off to Poland for 4 nights on Wednesday so will fast all day and have a healthyish meal at dinner. Decided I’m not getting weighed for at least a month as all the scales I get on are giving me different numbers. Will gauge by my clothes and tape measure.

    welcome missmongan17, hope that your fasting is going ok. 3 weeks until your holiday, that is something to look forward to and aim for. I am sure that you will have that bikini body in no time.

    Well didn’t manage a fast today. Was great at work but came in and thought I would have cracker and cheese, had 5. Must try hard to get back into the swing of things. Still going to do 5 fast and try for the very least 1 fast day.

    Michelle, am off the gin until Friday the plan to be on it for 2 days. Although I am off the gin I think that I am back on the cheese. May be better off on the gin as less cals.
