  • Hi!

‘”What you are already is so much more than anything you are trying to become”- that’s the quote my wellness counselor texted me after our meeting yesterday. I think it’s a good one for us all!

So the meeting was good. We concentrated on meditating, which I’m horrible at but have been assured that practice over time makes one better at it. Also was counseled on how to carve out “me” time from the kids, etc. – the meditation is supposed to “open up space” for me so that I don’t feel so stressed & crunched for time. I’m supposed to text her daily (if I want- no pressure) to say how if & how long I meditated so I can get in the habit & get a virtual ” high five” from her!

She was actually very kind about my bad eating episode and told me I’m really doing very well ( I think she already knew I’d been beating myself up over that anyhow!) . So all & all a good meeting.

Finally had the guts to weigh myself this morn & I’m up 4 lbs since mid-December (and that’s after being pretty good with the eating over the last week!). Oh well! Like I said, I’ll be doing the cleanse next week when I get back so hopefully that will get rid of most of the excess😁!

Hello & good luck to Goodie! Hoping you make your goal by the wedding! That’s strong motivation!

Cinque, glad the soybean advice sounds appealing to you! You must let me know if it works!

Lori & Salma, well, I like chocolate AND peanut butter- mostly together… So I’m in real trouble! Sometimes as a treat, I’ll take a teaspoon of peanut butter and sprinkle some stevia-sweetened Lily’s chocolate chips on it & eat that- YUM!

At the Honolulu zoo again with kids. Went to the Aquarium with them earlier. It’s about an hour walk from our condo to the zoo & aquarium so it’s good exercise for us all! Btw, Noreen, we’re have you been?! I’m using your real name to get your attention πŸ˜‰! Bye for now!

Hi all, welcome Goodie- another Sue! We are so common, lol! In my group of 8 friends locally, 4 of us are Sue! Must have been top of the charts 50+ years ago ( I am heading towards 58 this month )
So yesterday was a good eating day for me- had veg, salads, protein and planned out the next few days eating also. Plan to juice for my 2 FD next week, son brought juicing machine for me to try out and if I like it will invest in my own. Anyone else love buying gadgets for the kitchen and then not use them much? Think sausage maker, hamburger shaper etc. DH throws them out after a few years of gathering dust!
Sherry, glad the counsellor was kind, try not to beat yourself up, 4 lbs up is easily removable now back to healthy post holiday eating again.
    Happy Thursday all, Susie

    Hiya ladies

I just thought to share an interesting article:

    http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/jan/05/diet-detox-art-healthy-eating?CMP=fb_gu

    Have a good one y’all
    Salma

Interesting Salma, when I think back to my childhood eating, it was healthy but restrictive as my Mother was diabetic and we ate no sugar, foods were cooked with sweeteners only. My response at the time was to buy myself sweets walking home from school and also pigging out at parties where sweet treats were available, I became a chubby child and so it began…
I did eat veg but didn’t view it as particularly enjoyable, tho I do love veg now and my kids love veg too. None of my kids are fat.

    Good Morning!

Another cold start to our day. Brrr…….It’s supposed to get pretty nice till this afternoon. I’ll pop out for lunch to run some errands when the sun is high and the temperatures are not so brutal. I’ll bundle up and head out for boot camp in a few minutes.

Fast day for me today. I’m actually looking forward to it. We went out for dinner last night after I got home from the dentist and my stomach has not felt “right” since. I didn’t make the best choice and I suffered for it. Oh well..live and learn.

Sherry…glad you had a good meeting. How long will you be in Hawaii? Do your kids have to be back to CA for school soon? Or maybe you home school? I don’t remember if you said.

I’m drawing a blank on doing personals, so I’ll just send hugs to everyone and wishes for a good day!

I hope you are feeling better Lori.

Sherry… I am waiting with bated breath to hear all about your meeting with your health/nutrition practitioner πŸ™‚

    Salma

Hi Salma, you must have skipped Sherry’s post at the top of the page!

It does sound like a lovely consultation Sherry. Great quote!

It reminds me of when I worked in a women’s refuge. We had so much to do and about 6 crises happening at once all the time, it felt like I was running from the moment I got to work, til the moment I went home.
A very wise counsellor started a group for women workers in the town, as there were so many of us working in stressful positions. I went along very ambivalently, thinking ‘how I am going to make my busy life better by adding another thing in?’
But it was great and I learnt so many good techniques and got so much support, and I was able to make my work more manageable.

I need to practice mindfulness and meditation too. My brain does not find it easy!

So glad you are doing lovely things with the kids too! Precious times!
Are you still being woken through the night with your daughter’s diabetes signals?

Susie, congratulations on the lovely food and eating plan you have ready. Enjoy the juicing machine! Fresh juices are just so delicious!
I am a bit careful buying gadgets: small kitchen – and I really would love to be a minimalist (wouldn’t know it by looking around here though! ;( )
But I do have a deep fryer and an icecream maker in the cupboard that I haven’t used for at least 5 years. Still can’t bear to give them away though. I was so excited when I bought them and used them.

I skipped through that article Salma, (too long for my level of concentration at the moment) but I did like it. My food project is all about giving people healthy options: but to encourage them to eat them is often a change of eating habits, and we hope to remind people of healthy meals they loved in their childhood (if there were any) and make meals that are only a small step from their usual diet. So tricky!

Lori I hope your tummy has settled down, maybe the fast day will fix it. What a lot of busy active things to do too, did the sun shine?

Another nice day here. I have hurt my shoulder watering the garden (have to do it by hand and I have been filling the watering can too full I think). My nice upstairs neighbours will probably help me out til my shoulders stop hurting.
Off to make coffee (won’t be looking for roasted soybeans til I am in Thornbury next Tuesday).

    Good wishes everyone!

    Hello!

Feel right as rain after a good fast day. It was nice and warm at lunch time, but it is chilly again now.

Just had my dinner and will have my Golden milk tonight since all my spices have finally arrived. Turmeric, ginger etc in warm, unsweetened almond milk. Should lull me to sleep, don’t you think?

Cinque, take care of those sore shoulders! Also, when you get the ice cream maker out of storage, I’ll be over. πŸ˜‰

    Later!

Love golden milk! Turmeric has been amazing for me.

    Hi Sue and Sue

I have so many childhood friends call Sue or Susan – so common when we were young – in those days the oddity was an unusual name (though a common enough name in my dad’s country) – add to that it was unpronouncable, though the Surname was even more so – AND a different name to my mum and step-dad, and my sisters – and I spoke with a different accent to the other kids – now THAT was a load to bear!!! No one wants to be different.

And how times change, 4 x 4 mums are common, a plain name is just not done and having the same name as parents is quite a rarity!!!

    So thanks your mums!!!!

Sherryann – I think I need some counselling! Actually an evening out with the girls and a few bottles of good wine might do!

Salma – how is the job going? Hope you are smiling – enjoy the paycheck at the end of the month – when you work for yourself that becomes a distant memory, good months just make you worry it won’t last, and the bad ones – well you worry that they might do!!! We once sold a gorgeous diamond brooch at a fair for a good profit, hubby walked in a asked a thousand pounds more than I had been asking – a lady battered him down by three hundred pounds – folk notice when bartering happens, I must have been asked fifty times if we were off to a great holiday – all I could reply was that the mortgage was covered for a few months!! We did treat ourselves to a nice bottle of wine!

On that basis 5:2 won’t fail because I get too many great sales and treats!!!! lol!

Would hate to work for anyone else though!

All ready for my jaunt – erm, business trip – tomorrow! Have a great weekend all, I’ve put the stabillisers on the ‘oss and I’m ready to mount him on Monday – as soon as I can find something to stand on – honestly, I’m not built to chuck my leg over a horse, and though my sister’s have had them for forty years (step-sisters – I could give you all the cinderella story but will leave that for some time I am bored!) I can ride but wouldn’t do it unless I was being chased!

I’m a decent car driver (compared to most but useless compared to hubby – it hurts me to say, though true) so I think I’ll go back to the car analogies. After all, I’ve been lounging in the layby for ages!

See y’all next week and travel hopefully!

    Hiya girls,

Milena, the job is going okay so far. Some of the staff have been there for 47 years!!! I am dealing with serious turf and inertia issues, but it will be fun to shake things up a bit. The job involves quite a bit of traveling, and I will be doing that in the last week of January for over 10 days and likely to do the same almost every month of the year or so. It is a different kind of work to my previous one with a lot of responsibility and much expectations of me, so I hope I can measure up (don’t we women ALWYAS do that? Men never say such things). In fact, I read a post on a business forum about women and emails an that we should never use the words, ‘I think’, ‘sorry’ or ‘just’ as they reduce your power and make you less capable. I have to admit that since reading the article, I am paying more attention to not sounding apologetic or hesitant in emails. Whenever I want to use ‘I think’ – which is often – I cahnge it to something like: ‘we should’ or ‘it is essential’ or some such thing. It feels odd, but on re-reading sentences, it does make them more powerful and makes me sound like I know what I am talking about (which is not necessarily the case πŸ™‚

I had a great FD yesterday until the evening when a couple of Irish friends decided to drop by for some cheese and wine get together and to pick up their belated Christmas present from me (namely, my Christmas cake, which I mentioned ages ago, Milena, remember?) I was relatively good and had only one glass of wine and a couple of pieces of cheese. I think I did not go over 1000 cals. Today was a semi FD with the same result I think, so I can safely assume that I have an FD and a non-FD on average. The things we do to rationalise weaknesses.

I did come across an article about setting goals versus accumulating habits that I rather liked. I think it applies to adopting this WOL. It is longish, but I will post the link if you guys are interested. I would be interested in your views on the article:
    http://markmanson.net/goals?utm_campaign=mmnet-newsletter-2016-01-07&utm_medium=email&utm_source=mmnet-newsletter&utm_content=Read-Your-Goals

Milena, good luck on your travels and see you (loaded with lovely jewelry) when you get back home.
Lori, brrrrrrrr.. not only do you make me feel like a lazy slob, but you also go out in the cold. You do have such resolve!
Cinque.. be careful about this shoulder. I have an inflamed tendon in my hip and it is no fun. The ‘golden milk’ will help. Thanks also for drawing my attention to the fact that I missed what Sherry said about her health consultant. Thanks Sherry also for the info.. it is good advice.

To Susie and everyone else.. have a great evening and take care of yourselves.

    Salma

It is a cool grey Saturday morning, the last one for a while, it looks like.
Just one day without watering (the lovely neighbours said ‘of course’ they would do my watering) and my shoulders are so much better.

Salma I love that article. This is my favourite para:
“There seems to be a bias in the human circuitry that underestimates what it takes to accomplish really big goals and overestimates the effort required to take on a series of small goals. In my experience, it’s the regular heartbeat of pursuing and nailing small win after small win that eventually leads to the big ones. In fact, I’ve often found that becoming so intent on the small simple daily victories often causes one to not even realize one of the big goals has occurred until it’s already passed you by. This, too, is a habit. And I would argue it’s an incredibly compounding one at that.”

I strongly agree that changing habits is more important than going gung ho for a goal, but I also know that habits are so ingrained, and so powerfully connected to our history and our emotions, that thinking they are something little and easily fixed is not right either.

That ‘sorry’ thing is so true! Have you seen the Amy Schumer skit that started the current discussion? Funny and embarrassing (because I am a ‘sorry’ person too). It is in this article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2015/05/14/amy-schumer-im-sorry-not-sorry_n_7276504.html?ir=Australia
And they have made an app for it! Better get it Salma! πŸ˜‰ http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2016/01/07/new-app-stop-women-saying-sorry-work
On the other hand, I am glad of a bit of people being aware of others!

You were nice and sociable with good friends Salma, and balanced out the cheese and wine the next day. Excellently done!

I hope your jaunt is going wonderfully Milena! Best wishes!
In the days when classrooms were full of ‘Sues’ it was very hard to be the different one. We are all from that era I guess. I was stifled by that narrowness and was so glad when the 70’s came along!

Lori, great to hear you are right as rain again!
Home made icecream is the best. I keep hoping that is I get healthier I won’t react to sugar so much, and can eat some icecream I make myself. Oooh I made lovely mango icecream at this time of year!
Come on over and I will make you some!

    Hello QuietOne!

    Hello everyone!

Hi all! Forgive any typos pls.- I’m on my phone & w/out glasses! Heading back from a day at Kailua Beach, one of my favorites. The trees in the jungle along the side of the road are randomly decorated with large Christnas ornaments (still)! It’s our last weekend here and I’m sad about it !

My eating was good yesterday till the end of the day and then we had an employee dinner meeting at a local Chinese restaurant. I love their egg foo young, and I probably would have been ok if I hadn’t dipped into the sweet & sour pork, lemon chicken, and chow mien noodles- and let’s not forget the mini red velvet cupcakes. So, back to the drawing board today! I’ve been good so far.

No luck thus far finding a unique dining set – unless we want to pay at least $5k for a handmade one. Not prepared to pay that much πŸ˜–!

Cinque, Amy is such a funny comedian- someone who appeals to younger & older women alike!

Salma, sounds like you navigated the get together with your friends well! It seems you’re having a good start to your new year of eating well! Yes, the main message, from my meeting, which is not new to most of us, is practicing mindfulness/meditating= making better food choices & less stress in our lives overall.

Milena, have a great trip & be careful on the horse ( if I’m reading you correctly?).

Lori, how was the golden milk now that you have all your spices? Did you sweeten it at all?

Ok, off to shop for dinner food as the frig is getting quite bare! Tomorrow hubby & I are going shopping for those paddle boards! Wish us luck that we find good ones for not too much $!

    Good morning ladies..

Another beautiful day here. I have just made a couple of resolutions that have nothing to do with food. Cinque.. I really liked that article too and think that it really explains why we never seem to reach goals that we set ourselves. Nothing new, but it is a good reminder. Thanks for the links, I loved the ketch..sorry I only opened them today πŸ™‚ , but seriously, why do we do that? I am going to be much more mindful of this, particularly as I work with mostly men, and some with mega egos as well.

Oh, I forgot to say hi to QuietOne.. so hi, and welcome.

So today is not an FD, but I will try to be mindful of what I eat. I am still sticking to my window, but perhaps make it a little less strict on Saturday and I intend to take a day off on Sunday from window et al.

I find that when I am in an ordered ‘groove’, I feel much better and am happier. On balance, what do you guys prefer? Excitement or contentment? I found that I am pondering this question this morning as I sit in bed having my black coffee and reading inspirational articles πŸ™‚

I wish you all a great day.
    Salma

    Good Morning!

Remember how I said my cat was content to lie on the foot of our bed now that we have the electric mattress pad on? HA! She never came to bed last night and got me up at 3:45 this morning. πŸ™ It’s a never ending saga.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to keep to my eating window today or not. Since I’m up so early with nothing to do, I’ll be starving by 6AM. I will try to stay low carb at any rate. DH is going away for the day, so I’ll be left to my own devices. What to do, what to do? I have some TV shows to catch up on that I saved to the DVR this week, that will take a couple hours.

This time of year gets quite depressing for me. Spring/Summer, my weekends are full with playing golf and being active, but the Winter drags on and on. I have things I could get into inside, like cleaning closets, getting rid of clothes I no longer wear, but that doesn’t sound like much fun!

I hope you all have a good weekend whatever you may be up to!

I hope you can make today a good one Lori.
I’d think parcelling up the clothes you no longer wear would be great fun.
What say I pop over with some home made mango ice cream and help you.
Low carb mango ice cream of course 😜

Sounds like a plan Cinque! πŸ˜›

Just need to get the portal thing working!

    Good morning everyone,
Start of a hot day, but not too hot. Apart from making mango icecream and portalling it over to Lori, I am going to have another quiet pottering around Fast Day I hope.

Sherry, how did you manage less mistakes in your post than I do on my big computer keyboard! Impressive. Did you get your paddle boards?
The unique 5k handmade dining set does sound wonderful…. I hope one that is just a little bit cheaper turns up for you!
You must have been so full after that wonderful Chinese food (and red velvet cupcakes) that you are ready for a bit of an austere time. Coasting on the good memories.
    Enjoy your last weekend!

You must be coming up to your free eating Sunday Salma. I hope it is a wonderful one.
I love being in an ordered groove too! There is still interest and excitement in making lovely things happen (food and otherwise) but not the stress and anxiety. (Which will turn up eventually no doubt!)
    Cheers for your resolutions.

    Hi ladies!

On the runway waiting for take off. Sad to leave hubby behind to work. Even sadder I’m traveling by myself with the little (well, one is big!) monsters! Went for a nice walk this morning with my hubby this morn & then took everyone out to lunch by the beach before heading to the airport. Looking forward to that “ordered” eating next week that you’ve been talking about Salma. I really need it!

Wish me luck solo parenting and getting back into the swing of things and used to the tine change- never fun!

Ok, have to power down now. Talk to you all next week after I get settled. Have a great week ahead everyone!

Hi Sherry I hope it was a good trip home and that the kids are looking after you.
Just heard the news that David Bowie has died. All us mid-fifties are likely to be touched by his music and mayhem.

    Good Morning!

Quiet weekend around the forum. Also quiet weekend at my house. Once again, too much sitting and staring at the television. I did do quite a bit of reading too, but still….sitting. Have I mentioned that I really don’t like winter?

The husband is sick with a cold. I got up at 3:30 this morning to get him some meds for a headache, plus the cat was prancing around. It’s going to be a long day. Work should be fairly busy, so hopefully I’ll be able to stay awake.

I ate like a crazy woman on Saturday, but yesterday I ate totally low carb. Today will be a fast day, although I may sneak a bit above 500 calories. I have to make a grocery store run at lunch time to get some things I want for tonight’s dinner. I’m making rib eye steaks on the George Foreman grill and I want to saute some mushrooms in butter to pile on top of mine. DH doesn’t eat mushrooms…his loss!

Sherry….back to reality, huh? Hope it’s a calm transition.

Well, I have over an hour till I get ready for boot camp. I’m off to catch up on the news. Have a great day!

    Hi

well, I’m back, it was very cold! And I sneezed and snotted all weekend, had a high fever which broke early Saturday morning, hubby was quite pleased as I’d had the window open all night and it was well below freezing, the small lake we walked across to get to the fair was frozen. My vintage Wallis cashmere coat was amazingly warm – twenty quid off eBay.

Flight took off in a snowstorm, cool.

Lots of amazing jewellery bought. Easy part done – now to sell it, hopefully for a fair bit more than I paid, next fair tomorrow.

And now back on the horse! Actually still in bed, sonot too difficult keeping away from food. Hubby is on 5:2, some of you may remember he did it with me for a few weeks last year. Lost about 4kilos in about 4 weeks, as men seem to do!! Mainly due to their blinkered determination, so I won’t be allowed any cheating! On balance a good thing, though mine will act like a martyr until he loses the few pounds he has put on, then it will be back to eating bacon sarnies and croissants in front of me!

I’ll read the articles, Salma and Cinque, when I get to the computer, sounds interesting.

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Travel hopefully….

    Hello ladies..

A quick check in before I go to bed (hungry).. Today was a successful FD.. I am so glad it is over.
Since I am still following the window method.. no food till 2 pm πŸ™

I hope I can sleep despite the hunger pangs.

    Good night all.
    Salma

    Sweet dreams Salma,
I hope you fall asleep easily, and wake up feeling really good.

Lori your winter is so hard! I hope you can find things you love to do that are in-house! Our winters are so mild I don’t really have an understanding of living in such cold. (not that it stops me from complaining in our winter πŸ˜‰ )

    Mushrooms, yum!

Milena I am so glad your health is better, take care while you keep recuperating, won’t you. I had to look up Wallis cashmere coat and ooh there are lovely ones!

Good luck to your husband with 5:2 and I hope you can keep up with him!

The jewelry sounds lovely. What a gorgeous business to be in.

I’m off, in a bit, to shop with my friend Lin (who does 5:2) I am looking forward to buy the lovely summer produce, and may break my no fruit rule for some watermelon as tomorrow the forecast is 41C (nearly 106 in Fahrenheit). Watermelon is one of the lower sugar fruits and I have to eat a lot for it to effect me. Oh dear, I might eat a lot.

Best wishes for a good night and a good day.

Sherry, can you pop up from underneath the pile of crazy kids?

    Good Morning!

I slept right thru till the alarm this morning, so I wasn’t able to do my early morning update! I was awake a couple hours in the middle of the night because of my husband’s snoring. He doesn’t usually snore, but his head is so blocked up with this cold that he sounds like a motor boat! Anyway, when I finally got back to sleep, I slept till the alarm went off, which I never do. Made me hurry a bit to get ready for boot camp, but I made it!

I was pleased to see a lower number on the scale this morning after a successful fast day yesterday. I hope it holds or gets even lower by my official weigh in on Friday!

Well, I have several piles of paperwork requiring my attention, so best get to it. Have a lovely Tuesday!

    Hi all
FD with juice, and soup tonight for me- weighed in yest and had a small loss, only 1 but better off than on. With 40 lbs to lose I am here for the long haul and sometimes its better to be the tortoise not the hare. I keep trying to be positive- I find social occasions and alcohol difficult to police but am getting better at walking more and planning meals, and not missing the workplace chocs / cakes / biscuits etc.
No mid week meal out this week as hubby is away, so that will help. Susie

    Good Morning!

Susie, you are so right! Better to be the tortoise than the hare. Social occasions are difficult, but moderation is the key. It sounds like you are doing well with your walking and planning! Good for you.

This thread has been far too quiet the last few days. Come on girls…..I’m missing you all!

I’m having a good low carb and fasting week. Fast day #2 will be tomorrow(Thursday). I’m trying to do low carb, high fat on my non-fast days and it’s going well.

My husband is still feeling poorly. He has such a stuffy head that he is miserable. He is stuffy, yet his nose and eyes water constantly. It’s very odd. I’ve tried different over the counter meds, but nothing seems to work for him. Another girl at work was off sick yesterday with this crud. I suppose I’ll be next. πŸ™

I have to figure out what to have for lunch today. I have a hair appointment after work, so I need something substantial for lunch. I need to plan my lunches better so I don’t have to wonder what to have. I’ve saved a bunch of low carb recipe books to my Kindle, so I just have to take time to prepare some things. Maybe this weekend?

Ok…cat is at the window wanting back in. It is quite cold today.

    Have a good day!

    Hi ladies,

Cinque.. watermelon… mmmmmmmm.. a distant summer memory now.

Lori.. I hope you enjoyed your glass of wine at the hairdresser. I think that is sooooo civilized.
I think that the post from Johndean is some type of advertising and hope that this does not become the norm. Please do not post promotional stuff in these forums, Johndean.. it feels so intrusive.

I had a very successful FD on Monday and two ‘off’ days, during which I stuck to my window even if I did have lasagne last night πŸ™ I am hoping to fast tomorrow as well and that will be me done for the week. I am invited to dinner tonight and hope that I will be sensible.

Susie.. well done on your loss. that is amazing. I wish I would shift some weight. One pound would be great. It seems that my body has declared full out war against me, but being the tortoise that I am, I will just plod on and hope for the best.

I will have much traveling towards the end of this month and into the next, so I have to ‘bank’ all the good days I can now.

Makica should come back here.. we are missing you girl!

    Take care y’all..

    Salma

    Good to see you Salma!

I reported that post early this morning and hope it is dealt with quickly.

Busy day at work, which was unexpected! I’m glad as the day is whizzing by.

It is nearly Noon and I haven’t even had time to think about eating. I really need to figure out what I’m going to have for lunch. Something low carb…hmmmm. I have cheese and HB eggs and almonds here…..that may be it!

    Have a good day everyone!

The day was hot, the watermelon was lovely!
A big cool change, and now it is cool and rainy. I’Ve looked at my tiny garden through the window, and all the wilted things have popped back up, string and juicy looking.

Susie, I am one for the tortoise way too. All we need to do is keep going. In fact I like presuming that it will take a few weeks before I notice the next difference, because then I get a lovely surprise when a piece of clothing is looser.

Lori! A busy day at work! How exciting.

It is fast day here. I’m starting it with a nice cup of tea.

I can almost taste the watermelon Cinque πŸ™‚

I am with you on fasting today. I am afraid my dinner last night went South.. the food was too tempting. Now I am on a fast day and hope to have a nice soup at the end of the day.

Life is tough.. come on Makica, hurry up with those pills πŸ™‚

    Have a great day everyone.
    Salma

    Good Morning!

The beginning of a fast day here. I have my “meals” planned, so should have no trouble sticking to it. Fingers crossed as I have weigh in tomorrow.

The husband is still sick and I have no idea why I am not. I’m attributing it to a few things. Not eating sugar, IF, and I drink a glass of vinegar water every morning. I have the apple cider vinegar with the “mother”, which just means it is raw and unpasteurized. I splash some into a cup and fill it with water first thing each morning. I know vinegar water gargle is the best thing for a sore throat, so maybe my drinking it is giving my immune system a boost?

Nothing planned for the weekend but cooking! DH has requested a meatloaf and I want to make some low carb things so I have lunches ready to go next week. I don’t want to have to resort to a fast food salad or burger without the bun. Today will be spent going thru some of my low carb cookbooks and making a grocery list.

    Have a great day everyone!

So glad you are not sick Lori, may it stay that way. I hope you had a lovely fast day. Mine was good too. In fact I felt so full after my evening soup, I might give myself a smaller bowl next time.

I hope you found lovely things to cook for the week in your recipe books. That is one of my great pleasures, finding recipes, shopping, preparing, cooking….. And then eating!

I hope you had a good Fast day too Salma. And a really lovely soup.

And today is a so called normal day πŸ˜‰

I heard that Alan Rickman had died, just as I was going to sleep last night. I loved his work and understand he was a lovely man. Two amazing men lost to cancer at age 69 this week. 🌹🌹

    Sending best wishes out 🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒

    Hi everyone

where is Makica – hope you are ok!!
Nearly over my malaise – still snotty but cough getting better, did second fast today, went well, hubby moaning he hasn’t lost weight – who bought and ate the two shop bought rhubarb pies, I asked – and was told not many calories in rhubarb and I wasn’t supporting him!!! Men!

So sad about Alan Rickman, gorgeous man – and just after David Bowie, was a fan from the start, saw him in ’72! Lot to be said about living every day as if its your last – and real wealth is good health!

A good reason to get stuck into 5:2 this year, I do think you are right Lori, there are things we can do to avert sickness, and to recover quickly! Though I blame being susceptible to chest infections on my mother and step dad – smoking while pregnant, keeping kids in smoke filled homes and cars – she never understood that I refused to have Robert in the same room when she smoked!

Will try the vinegar! Is it better than lemon?

Planning some warm meals, its freezing here – literally! Though too cold for snow!

Son has just started a week job in the local supermarket, not fit enough to apply for the job he wants but its a start, good to see him on the mend, hubby was in out-patients today, the cyst they removed from his head was just that! No more fairs until the end of the month – so can stay home in the warmth, peddling my wares on ebay as usual (all last weeks purchases to sell! – buying is so very much the easy part!)

Cinque, the Wallis coat I have is, I think, from the eighties, certainly vintage! And soo warm!

Off to bed, hope y’all have a great Friday.

    travel hopefully …..

    Hello Everyone!

Hope those who have been missing lately soon check in. We’re missing you all!

Milena…glad you are beginning to feel better. I am, as yet, avoiding the “plague” that I am surrounded by. You asked if the vinegar is better than the lemon. As far as taste…NO! I’m not sure about lemons anti-bacterial properties, but the apple cider vinegar with the “mother” is touted for being good at killing germs. I won’t tell you that it’s pleasant to drink…I just slug it down first thing in the morning. πŸ˜‰

Hurrah as the scale was down 2 lbs this morning!! My low carb with 2 500 calorie days and using the eating window have worked this week. I may let the eating window slide this weekend, but try to stay very low carb. I made a lovely salmon salad for lunch along with some cheese “crackers”. They are simply a mound of shredded cheese melted in the microwave until brown. They sure smell good…I’m anxious for lunch! I have a silicone microwave dish that worked great for the “crackers”. If you use a glass dish, you need to butter it well, or you might as well just throw it away as the cheese will become one with the dish. LOL! I’ll report on the taste after lunch.

Hope your Friday is a good one!

Hi all! Sorry to be AWOL for so long. Still recuperating plus there’s the fact I’m solo parenting 4 which is never easy, especially w/getting used to the time change! It’s only 2 hrs difference this
time of the year but it still gets me at this age!

Susie, I’m right there with you! Congrats on doing well! On Wednesday I started my cleanse with the homemade bone broth ( made from the carcass & leftovers I froze from our yummy organic brined Xmas turkey!), fresh blended & strained ginger/tumeric tea, green smoothies & lots of organic veggies, poultry & berries. Starting to feel better as of today- the first two days aren’t fun!

I know I shouldn’t complain given how cold it is where many of you are, but it’s cold here in not-so-sunny Southern Cal! Especially since I’m coming off of 82-85 degree Farenheit days!

Lori, congrats on the weight loss! 2lbs! Great! What do you most attribute your success to? The window? The low carb?

Cinque, I’m so out if it and busy that I hadn’t seen the TV& that those gentlemen had passed! So sad! I loved David Bowie’s music when I was a teen! His poor wife, Iman. Didn’t they have a child together? You and I would gave fun hanging out! I too love perusing recipes ( I have giant stacks I’ve printed off the Internet blogs plus cookbooks- much to my poor husband’s chagrin) & making & of course eating them! Hmmm! Maybe we’d be dangerous togehter on second thought! But of course we’d only make healthy things!😏

Salma, good luck banking the good eating days before you leave for business travel. Will you have to eat out w/clients or on your own? Obviously on your own is easier because you can plan better. This is something I need to do better! So many times when I go out to eat or there’s a holiday, I just say ” the heck with it” & end up eating badly! I need to make a sensible plan prior & stick to it

It is quiet around here lately! Normally after being gone fir a few days I’d be waaaay behind in catching up! Have a great Friday/wknd ladies 😘!

    Sherry

Ugh! Sorry for all those typos above!

Good morning everyone! It is an absolutely beautiful morning here. I am drinking my darling coffee (yes, I have been looking for roasted soy beans, haven’t found them yet) and doing some nice pottering around (well I was before I sat down at the computer!).

When I went shopping with my good friend Lin, on Tuesday, and she mentioned her beautiful winter coat that she has had for decades (she came to Australia from Britain about 20 years ago), I said “Ooh is it a Wallis coat?” And she looked surprised and said yes.
Don’t I learn heaps on this thread!

I am so glad you are getting better and better Milena. You will feel fab when you are finally over it. And hopefully the magic of 5:2 (and the judicious use of vinegar) will mean no more illness this year.

I keep hoping it might help my ongoing, low level hayfever, but no sign of that yet.

Good news for your son and your husband. It is all up in your house! (if only husband can just stick to rhubarb and skip the ‘pie’ bit πŸ˜‰ )

Congrats on your loss Lori, and I hope the shredded cheese doesn’t cancel out the lack of carbs! ….My treat is tortilla chips with grated cheese melted in the microwave, and guacamole for accompaniment. (Mmm fat and carbs! I do try to keep it a ‘sometimes’ snack).

Sherry, hooray! You managed to poke your head up from under that scrum of children! Don’t worry about typos, very good to hear from you!

Yes it was two big shocks to hear about David Bowie and the Alan Rickman. I read that David has a 15 year old daughter. I know there is no good age to lose a parent, but my heart aches for her at 15. It is such a tricky age, poised at the step into adulthood.

I wish we could hang out! Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a couple of days to share recipes and do a load of cooking for everyone here, so we all went home with plenty of fabulous meals to make life easier, and more delicious. We would be completely sensible of course, and eat small portions!!!!!
I think we should all meet at your Hawaiian place!

Oh dear, coffee is finished. Off to do more pottering around, and have a leisurely breakfast. And then maybe more coffee. It is that sort of day.

Hi! Just back from taking the twins to a birthday party at a local trampoline park…lots of pizza and cake, of which I did not partake! I’m such a poet! It’s a three day weekend with the kids off of school for Martin Luther King Day- no rest for the weary mom πŸ˜‰

Yes Cinque! I’m serious when I say that we should all have a get-together in Hawaii! It’s at least half way between you and where I live full-time. You poor other girls have to travel farther unfortunately, but hey, it’s Hawaii!!! Lori~ I know YOU love Hawaii! Salma, you’ve expressed interest in coming! And Milena, you’ve been wanting to go there FOREVER! For those that don’t want to stay at a hotel, I have extra sleeping accommodations in the form of a bunk bed, two ottomans that fold out to twin beds and a to-be-delivered within the next few months, huge 6 person sectional that would be comfy for at least two (and maybe three?) to sleep on! It would be one huge slumber party with a lot of good cooking involved! So who’s signing up?

Cinque btw, I totally agree with you, I could probably live on “nachos”, tortilla chips with melted cheese and good guacamole…YUM!

    Good night all!

Yes, it’s me again (sorry!), making up for my lost time this week! Lori, since you’re eating low carb-ish, check out the website, Slender Kitchen under heading “Twenty five Whole30 dinner recipes! Lists 30 yummy sounding low carb dinners. Cinque, I’ve just substantially added to my pile of printed recipes…ahhh! πŸ™

Ahh….all this Hawaii talk makes me wish I could leave today! I have met other “forum friends” in real life and it’s always a wonderful time. Last year 24 of us went on a cruise together! This particular group meets every other year. In 2017 we’re meeting in Vancouver Washington. Anyway…..

Thank you for the website info Sherry. I found some good low carb ideas at a site called “sugarfreelikeme dot com” Easy and quick ideas. She doesn’t appear to have updated her blog/site since September, which makes me sad. It seems to be a great site.

Miss Kitty let me sleep until 5:15 this morning. What a star! I’m enjoying a leisurely morning before starting to cook. I think most of my cooking will be tomorrow, but I do want to make the sausage/egg cups today for lunch. I have to send the husband out for some sausage.

Our 12 year old grandson will be here this morning. Our son is a police officer and will just get off work at 7. He’s due to pick up his son at his ex-wife’s this morning, so Pappy will step in and go pick him up and we’ll have him part of the day so our son can get some sleep after working a 12 hour shift.

Well, I have rambled on this morning! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Good morning from a quiet Sunday Melbourne morning, with pigeons cooing and the radio on.

I will keep making noises about meeting with you all in Hawaii, but I am afraid it will all be a pipe dream (even though Hawaii is so nicely positioned for us!). My horrible illness restricts everything. I am quite close to being housebound (but I am not, yay!). I only make it to Sydney because my daughter can organise everything so well for me.
But if the rest of you make it, I will join in on skype!

I melted the gasket in my coffee machine yesterday (put it back on the flame, idiot me), so I am going coffee free today, and without the roasted soy beans to help! You might get a very irritated post from me at the end of the day!

It is fast day and I am a bit hungry all ready (9am). I’ll take that as meaning it will be a really good fast day, with my body doing its wonderful fasting thing, and lots of progress made.

I hope you had a lovely time with your grandson Lori. Wow, 12 years old! Isn’t it extraordinary having the next generation growing up. My granddaughter is a toddler, but my sister has grandchildren who are adults now. It makes me feel that I look at everything from such a long perspective!

    Best wishes for today.

Cinque, it saddens me that you can’t travel easily. You have a wonderful attitude though and that’s everything, isn’t it? You’re in my prayers, as well as the people with the auto-immune disorders like my daughter. There’s some hopeful ways to treat Type 1 diabetes coming down the line in the next 10 years. Is there anything hopeful on the horizon for CFS?

Have fun with your grandson, Lori! Fairly peaceful night here. I got rid of the boy…he’s at a sleepover! Just made a large batch of spiced jalapeno turkey burgers and have a new pot of chicken bone broth simmering on the stove for the next 24 hrs. so it’s been a cooking weekend over here as well. Sounds like fun, those get-togethers you’ve had with people from other sites. It would be wonderful if that ever happened with this group of gals!

So slow here. No Milena, Makica, MM and Susie and Salma are a tad quiet too! Hope it’s because you’re all out having a wonderful time and hoping you’ll check in again soon!

Good night (good morning to you, Cinque!)

    Good Morning,

Oh Cinque…I, too, am sad that your illness keeps you from going places. As Sherry said, you have such a good attitude. Keep that sunny outlook and enjoy each small outing you are able to do.

Another sleep in for me! 5:30! I’ll enjoy a few hours of sipping coffee and catching up on line and then start laundry and cooking. Today is meatloaf and meatballs, along with some roasted cauliflower. My sausage egg cups turned out awesome and I’m looking forward to 1…or 2 for breakfast. On the weekends I don’t do the eating window, I just eat when hungry.

Hope you all enjoy your Sunday!

Thanks Sherry and Lori, it has been hard to accept all the things I can’t do. Sometimes I feel like one of those ghosts who are still in the world, but can’t leave the place they reside. However, more often I realise how many people have worse symptoms, dreadful pain, more restricted lives, less support and more fear and misery. So I really do appreciate that even if my own world is quite small, it is lovely, and I am very lucky.

Even luckier to have found 5:2. It has certainly increased my quality of life. And my social life has expanded thanks the forums πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŽπŸ€“πŸ˜‹πŸ˜€

It is Monday morning here and I am enjoying my breakfast ( break fast). It was a good fast day, and such a better sleep last night that I will go without coffee again for a couple more days. Ooh that is harder than fasting! Wish me luck.

All that food going on sounds wonderful. I have enough food on hand but I am planning my next cook up. I have some frozen mince and I think I wil use it making a big pot of chili. Tomorrow.

Lori I am glad you have your free ranging weekends, I was wondering how you sustain that window.

    Best wishes 🐒🐒🐒🐒

    Hi Cinque

was reading the threads – why do I do it online, my brain can’t cope with backwards threads – just logged in to give you a cyber hug – you make me count my blessings! Then I read your post about the Wallis coat! Made me laugh out loud! You’ll all be hunting down Wallis coats on ebay next!

Sherry – sorry to be a bit lax, busting a gut to list all the stuff I bought last week – trying to get back to Copenhagen in March and OH won’t entertain it unless we sell this lot.

Gets me in front of the television a lot – was watching James Martin Home comforts and made the Coq au Vin for dinner today! Blummin’ amazing!

OH and I have now decided to have Sundays off!!! Yay! – except if its sunny (photos), except when we have fairs (always on a Sunday!) and, I imagine, except when we are skint! – or haven’t finished the tax returns next week!!!

Well, I can dream. But we have decided to have a day of ‘proper’ food! And he is doing fish and chips next week – home made chips ( well, wait until he sees the price of duck fat – he watched Tom Kerridge do the thrice cooked chips)! And despite living in a country surrounded by 6,000 miles of coastline (10 thousand if you include the islands) never found anywhere that sells decent fish!

Yearning for the days I used to put out sett lines at this time of year, on the beach at Tynemouth, of course if the tide didn’t go back far enough we had to wade into the sea – your legs really do go blue with cold! Some lovely cod though! Will tell you one day about the time I knocked myself out catching lobster!

Anyway back to dinners on Sundays!

This way madness? Hope not – I reckon I can keep to 5:2 really well if I can dangle a carrot (caramalised preferably!), something to look forward to every week.

Might have something to do with seeing Mr Martin making chocolate eclairs! Reckon I can have a go if I do a 4 fast week first – though is it worth fasting for an extra two days just to have two chocolate eclairs – yup!

Salma will be so proud of me – for the newbies this thread was started by Salma as Foodies Anonymous – sorry if I had you all salivating but there you go!!! My hair shirt has been washed and will be worn from tomorrow! Moving fast day to Tuesday as I will be making soup tomorrow with bones left over from jointing the chicken – has anyone actually jointed a chicken? I highly recommend it as a pretty good substitute for an hour in the gym! Bloody hard work!

Roasted bones are now soaking in water, stock and then soup will be made as soon a we get veggies tomorrow, eaten Tuesday! Yum!

Must get back to work, need to find a way to get the air fare to Hawaii, Sherry!

Travel hopefully ……… and have a great week!

    Hi all
Sorry not to post more, am a bit fed up today- too much wine led to bad eating at the w/e. I enjoyed it all at the time but now am sorry of course that I am still stuck in this fat body that makes me feel unfit and uncomfortable. Times like this, I start to wonder if I should change my eating plan etc and I start thinking about trying the latest ‘wonder diet’ out there- but then I came back here, read your posts and am ok to carry on as I planned.
So FD with juices today- will juice enough for the 2 juicy days- turns out hubby is eating out tomorrow night so might do them together this week. Weigh in tomorrow at SW, feeling a bit fragile about that so might leave before we get onto the public discussion. They call it ‘ image therapy’ and all who have lost get clapped and asked for their tips- one woman lost 12lb in one week!! Those who have gained or maintained get asked what happened, although no actual weight in lbs is mentioned. But if you feel a bit iffy, it might be tough. I felt bad last week as I only lost 1 and most folk lost more.
No plans for today, make my juices, tidy round, walk out and enjoy the crisp cold weather, Susie

Up and ready for boot camp….I guess. I did something to my hip yesterday and I’m not sure how it will go to exercise, but I’m going to give it a go. It does seem a bit better this morning, but still sore.

I stuck to my low carb plan all weekend. Today is a fast day along with low carb. Should be ok as I have my eating planned. I made some yummy recipes over the weekend so I have good food for the week.

We have auditors at work all week, so they’ll be bothering me periodically asking for this and that. This is my last audit to get through, YAY! It is never too bad as we keep good records and balancing reports each month so there is never anything for them to find. More work each month, but makes for an easy audit at year end.

Well, that’s my boring world. At the end of the week, they’re calling for a big storm so we have that to look forward to. HA!

Have a good start to your week!

    Dear All,

I just popped in to say hi as I have been AWOL for a bit. My new work is taking uyp a lot of time and attention.. and I do have to admit that I went to two parties (and a brunch) over the weekend.. eating wise-disaster, but otherwise, lots of fun!

Milena, I also always have Sunday completely off from any type of restriction.. it does help to keep the caramelized carrot in firmly in my vision field. This works for me and helps me stick to the two FDs during the week and the ‘window’. I am proud of you Milena.. of course I am.. are we not still here both of us old bangers.. puffing our way to the finish line (quite a way away for me still) when others have long parked their sports car in the garage (sic Janey πŸ™‚ ).

Having said that, although today was supposed to be an FD, I was invited to lunch, so I decided to fast tomorrow instead. Now the lunch appointment got cancelled and the day has been ‘wasted’. It is so annoying when that happens.

All that talk of Hawaii.. girls.. I am game πŸ™‚ I can feel the sun on my (rather fleshy) shoulders. It is cold and windy here, but nothing like most of you describe. It will be a couple of days of rain and wind, but nothing too bad.

To all of you, a big virtual hug. Cinque.. I love your attitude.. you are our sunshine here. We should all feel gratitude even in the time of hardship, but your outlook is pure sunshine in this cold weather.

    Salma
