  • Hi all! Makica, like you, I’ve been all over the place the last few weeks. The last two fast days I’ve tried have gotten scuttled in the evening. Last night I was doing quite well, but then a friend came over to watch a movie and we opened a bottle of wine. And, of course, one shouldn’t drink without food, so out came the cheese and crackers. Sigh. I’m trying again today. Just had an egg with a bit of feta (makes a lovely little souffle if you whip them together and microwave for 1 minute) this morning. I’ll fast now till dinner–a bowl of homemade beef stew.

Sherry, thanks so much for the cleanse. It’s a rather complicated one, but it certainly looks healthy. And a week or two without any processed carbs should take off a few pounds. I’ll give it a try after the holidays. I’m afraid at this point I’m simply going to be happy with treading water till New Years is past.

Greetings to everyone else. You guys really do help me keep at least semi-motivated. After last night I was about ready to throw in the towel, but then I thought of Milena’s horse and decided I’d better try to catch the bloody beast and get back on.

Good luck to everyone else who is fasting today.

    Love to all,
    MM

    Hello all!

After a fun weekend with my sister, I came crashing back to reality with a pile of laundry waiting and a jabbering husband with a list of “stuff” that required my attention. Sigh…… Work is busy today as we are working short-staffed. Thank goodness it is only for 1 day. That means no lunch break, but I have my protein shake ready to go when I decide to open my window. It is Noon and I’m not very hungry so far.

My sister and I didn’t adhere closely to our eating windows, but we have both noticed that since using this method, when we eat, we eat much less and don’t get hungry again for quite some time. YAY for appetite correction!

After the Holidays my carb and sugar restriction will begin. Sis and I are going on a Bermuda cruise in May and both have goals in mind for then. She has a pair of pants(pants of truth) that she wants to be able to fasten comfortably and I just want to lose at least 20 lbs. We’ll see how it goes.

Sherry that cleanse is something else! In order for me to do that, I’d have to be locked in a room and have whatever I’m allowed to have handed in to me at the appropriate time. Hats off to you for following that routine!

Working 5 days this week and 3 days next and then I’m off for Christmas Eve, Christmas day and of course, the weekend. Then back in for 4 days and then a day off for New Year’s. Once January starts, we have no holidays until the end of March(Good Friday).

Wishing you all a good week. Hugs all around!

Good morning, it is the coolness before a hot day. I must get up and water my plants. Shopping today and then I must sit down and plan some meals. Also need to go and pick up my new glasses. Today is already too busy! So many ‘musts’.
MinnMiss cool that you got back on that fast horse. I hope today is a good one.
Good luck today Lori, with your window and with work. Just one day!
Makica what a lovely time with your daughters.
This busy, social time of year is challenging!
Sherry and Makica thanks. YamDaisy hopes to be organic, locally grown, use the whole animal, and really environmentally friendly re containers and compost etc, but to start we are just concentrating on good and affordable.

Must go and water. It is lull day for me. Best wishes for your day.

I survived our big work party at the house! Somehow I’m even down to 168, which is just half a pound from my dec goal. I’m fasting today and Thursday so fingers crossed….my computer is out so I’m on my tablet and can’t type as well but I’ll try to get back on tomorrow!

    Good morning everyone.
Sherry.. for how long did you do the cleanse? and how many lbs did you lose on it? More interestingly, did you gain (and if so, how much) after you stopped? It certainly takes sine will power to be on it, do for me, it may be something to try in the New Year.

Cinque, your venture sounds great. I looked at the website and I would certainly be a regular. When can we have the franchise in Lebanon ๐Ÿ™‚

Wel done Carolinacatz.. you are a better man than I.. I am still way way off my goal for December, but tomorrow (or next year) is another day. Realistically, this period is not a good time to be hard on oneself, so I just hope to maintain and to pick up steam again after New Year.

On another note, here is a very interesting article/TED video about intermittent fasting. It certainly gives us even more reason to do it. Makica had mentioned the research to support this as well:

    http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/12/11/neuroscientist-shows-what-fasting-does-to-your-brain-why-big-pharma-wont-study-it/

I hope today brings joy and smiles to you all.

    Salma

    Hi all
Seem to have not been posting for a while, sorry, I have been reading and keeping up with your efforts- so much better than mine.
I did two FD last week, tho think went a few cals over but am struggling on the other days to keep to TDEE.think the combo of Xmas and retirement are getting to me- am counting the days at work now and plan to get fitter in jan.
One of my Xmas gifts is a pair of walking shoes and one is a 3 day detox juice pack so my intentions are good. The juice thing is very expensive but got a deal on Black Friday for a one off. Might try Sherry’s cleanse after that, not sure what DH would make of that! Guess if I am retired I could manage to do two meal plans just for those few days.
MIL had medical problem at w/e so that was an unexpected trip and all food was bad. Work yest was hard and i ate cake, just hanging on really.
Glad you are all focused, just reading helps motivate me to join in again soon.

    Good Morning!

Well, I made it thru my Monday unscathed! It was a busy day, but not crazy. I managed to fast until 1 and then my window was closed by 7. No veggies crossed my lips, but I’ll try to remedy that today. I really have to revamp my diet as after the holidays, I’m going very low sugar and low carb. There goes my favorite yogurt, my pretzels with hummus…I have no idea what I’ll eat!

Let’s make a pact to not be too hard on ourselves the next couple of weeks. This time of year is stressful enough without adding to it by worrying about every mouthful.

Nice to see those of you who don’t post often. Hope to see you all more frequently in the new year.

    Have a good Tuesday!

Pact to be kind to ourselves made! Shake on it!

    ๐Ÿ˜€

    Best pact ever. I’m in.??

Thanks for the link Salma, I got a chance to watch it yesterday afternoon. Very interesting. Especially that fasting works like exercise on our bodies.( given I can do so little exercise).

Hi Carolina ( you are Elizabeth I think?) so close to your goal! Cheers for getting there!
Cheers also for surviving the big work party at your house! And the house survived it too?! ?

Hi Susie, hope your MIL is fine now. Isn’t it the way that whenever something unexpected happens, all there is is cr*p food.
Yay for managing the fast days as best you can. I find the bottom line is just to keep cranking out the fast days. The better you can do the rest of it, great, but just keeping the fast days going keeps the right direction.
Have fun with those Christmas presents!

I’ve got another busy day, but each day I am getting the necessary things done, and feeling a bit better.
Hope this is another day like that!

Bravo Elizabeth for doing well at the work party & being so near your December goal! Hard to do this time of year! I survived a food-laden gift wrapping party (our business collects & wraps gifts for needy elderly each Christmas) today. I just kept wrapping like a crazy person and stayed away from the goody table! Then I have two office parties, one for my northern office on Thursday and another a week from tomorrow at my local office! My plan of attack is to bring a healthy salad with protein of some sort and a sugar free dessert to share so that I have some safe, yummy options- I think my gals that work for me might even appreciate some healthier choices, who knows?

Salma, I did the cleanse for 1 week. It’s not hard once you do the (significant amount of) food prep in advance. I did the cleanse a little less than a week after our Thanksgiving holiday and didn’t weigh prior to starting since I was a little afraid to know the starting weight ( I know, stupid!). I was in the 125’s prior to Thanksgiving. I weighed 2 days after starting the cleanse and I was 126.0, so I’m guessing I lost some weight during that two days- maybe a pound? At the end of the week, I was down to 123.2. Right now, I’m 123.4 and I’ve been back to eating normally ( but again, I eat pretty cleanly) this week. So the net is about two pounds lost and maintained if you take out the holiday “fluff” gain! Being that I’m pretty close to my goal weight, I’m thrilled with that loss! Hope that helps!

Susie, best of luck if you do try the cleanse- your hubby could eat what you eat and just add on starch, etc. for him! Regardless, you WILL get it together once the holidays are over- don’tt be too hard on yourself right now!

I agree, all we can all do is try our best during the crazy holiday season! Just maintaining would be awesome!

Did pilates today after the gift wrapping party and then even managed to wrap a few of my own kids’ gifts so a pretty successful day all in all!

Where’s Milena these days? Milena, you’re supposed to be leading the Christmas charge on your steed after all! ??

Ok, back to the crazy making of wrapping gifts, packing for our trip to the mountains, and right this minute, getting all the kids to bed so I can do the aforementioned!

    Good night all!

    Good morning one and all..

Up early today to take parents out for breakfast after their planned blood tests. There is a wonderful place that is a renovated and converted old house with an lovely garden where we can have a traditional breakfast: chickpeas, fava beans with garlic, lemon and olive oil, thyme pies, halloum cheese with fig jam, etc. I am not sure how ‘good’ I will be, but it’s healthy, right?

Sherry, I think I will definitely need to do some version of your cleanse. An interesting observation is that I have found that since I have not been sticking too well to the 5:2 WOL, my joints (that were getting so much better) have started hurting again. My prolonged periods – now over 2 weeks of heavy bleeding- (which had got better) are back and I am generally feeling less well from a health perspective. So, if for nothing else except feeling better and healthier, I intend to get back in that saddle as soon as the holidays are over. In the meantime, my plan is to just maintain as part of the ‘being kind to ourselves’ pact.

I am so proud of all the gals who are close to their goals.. what a wonderful way to ring the new year in!! For all the rest of us lost souls, we will find our Mojo again and will all be able to to sing our success in 2016.

    Salma

HI everybody and congrats on all. In a few minutes I have to go into a long meeting so just to touch base and say hello and what a great honor it is to be a part of this group.

Sherry so great of you to share this cleansing plan. I had a 2 month vegan one and it was tough. I am going back to 5:2 because my joints are acting up just like Salma’s.

I have redefined my “operating truth” in the past few months so next year is going to be a lot of changes for me work wise specially. I am so excited and just a bit panicky but good king of creative panicky.

Have been unable to wake up for weeks now. I used to get up before the clock at 6 am and even before that. Now I’m like a little child going “just 5 more minutes” to myself. I am truly suffering for not being able to wake up naturally after all these years. ANd I bet I would wake up 10 minutes later than the time I set my phone to go off. I am just miserable where I am and need to move on.

Got to go. Sorry for the rant but I just needed to get this out of my system.

    Love ya all
    m

    Good Morning!

I’m enjoying a leisurely morning as I took today off boot camp. My body needed a break. I stayed in bed an hour later than normal and now have over an hour to just relax and have some coffee. Bliss!

It sounds like everyone is gearing up for a good 2016! Love it! Wish we could all gather for a grand send off to ring in 2016! We’ll gather here in cyber space and cheer each other on to our goals.

Sherry…you are busy, as usual! Your trip to the mountains sounds awesome. Will you be there over the holidays?

Salma..hope you enjoyed your breakfast with your parents. It sounds quite good to me. Sorry that your joints are hurting again and how awful to have periods like that! I can’t imagine. I went thru early menopause and stopped all of “that” at around age 41. Hope your health improves as you get back into fasting in the new year.

Makica…I’m anxious to hear what your work changes will be! Excitement and panic are the same feelings I’m having about my retirement in 2016. As for the sleep issues, I know that can really wear you down. Hopefully, the change in your work life will translate into more restful sleep for you.

Cinque…are you getting your house back in order after your guests? I know you really enjoyed having the little one around, but it does take its toll. Glad to hear that you’re feeling better too.

Well, time to get my day started. I ended up stuck at the office thru lunch again yesterday as one of the girls had a 1/2 day vacation and another of the girls started with a migraine and had to leave early. I’m hoping to get a lunch break today as I have to make a trip to the market so I have something to make for dinner the next couple days.

Take care everyone….make it a good day!

    Good morning midfiftiesers! ?
Sherry what a successful wrapping day, and good plans for negotiating the Christmas parties! And a trip to the mountains to look forward to! All power to you for these busy days, and then I hope you get some sort of break!

Salma that breakfast! Just delicious! I would love to be there!
it is interesting, and very hard for you, that those painful and exhausting symptoms have come back. I hope you can get a mirena ( I think that’s the name) or something to stop such heavy periods. And get back to full on fasting as soon you can, of course!

Makica it sounds like big things are happening to your work life. Scary, but I bet you are doing the best thing. all good wishes for you. I hope you can have big sleep on the weekend.

Nice sleep in for you Lori. I love slow mornings. In fact I can’t manage without them.
I am slowly getting the house back in order. But my desk! Everything ended up piled on it, and I need a big sorting out. Maybe today.
I hope you got your lunch break!

Fast day for me! I think it will be a nice one.

    Hello ladies,

Makica.. quick question: Are you able to fall asleep naturally or are you having intermittent sleep or difficulty getting to sleep? That may be one of the reasons you are finding it difficult to wake up. In the past year or so I had terrible sleep problems for a few months that I needed to use sleeping tablets and a type of hypnotherapy tape to get to sleep. I seem to have got over it now (THANK GOD – it was simply awful). During that period, the iPhone application by “Paul McKenna” called “I can make you sleep” helped me enormously. Someone on this forum, I think it waS Ginette, had recommended I check him out. The tape/application was great.. it really helped me fall asleep. Otherwise, it may just be the worry about work that is doing this to you. If at all helpful, I fully sympathize!

Everyone seems to be well and truly in the holiday mood.. this is a most challenging time of year in terms of food.. but wonderful for family and friends.. and on the grand scheme of things, what can be better than being surrounded by people you love and who love you? Both my sons are here and I have just come back from dinner with my boys. After a generous breakfast with my parents, fast days seem more like a distant memory at the moment. Still.. I rejoice in YOUR successes which keep me cheerful and hopeful that I too can do this.

Have a great evening/morning/afternoon you wonderful gals.

    Salma

Having a really nice fast day. To kill an hour before soup I decided to try on a few clothes that were just a bit too small last time I tried.
    They fit!
So I thought I would try the winter skirt I didn’t quite fit into last winter. Too big.
Tried all my winter skirts (4) and a pair of winter trousers, and a jacket. All too big. The skirts could be pulled off while done up.
They were lovely skirts, so I am a little bit sad. Maybe 1.3% sad.

    98.7% ecstatic!

    Good Morning!

Cinque…what fun to try on clothes to find that they fit or are now too big! It is a shame when an especially nice piece no longer fits. Oh well…you’ll have to find some just as nice in your new size!

I ate WAY too much yesterday, so that must be tempered today. We were given a gift of some cookies that I can’t seem to stay out of! Thank goodness they are nearly gone. I should know that I’m only making it harder for myself to stop the sugar by eating it now. Tis the season!

I did my last inventory entries at work yesterday! I sure won’t miss that when I retire! I think it all came out pretty well, just have to get the manager to sign off on it today and I’m finished!

Didn’t sleep very well last night, so it’s going to be a long day. Maybe boot camp will pep me up? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Have a lovely day!

    Hi Ladies,

Salma I am an insomniac that has problems falling asleep and then when I do I wake up at 2 am can’t go back to sleep until 6 am and then want to commit suicide when I have to get up at 7 am. My mother was the same. I just downloaded the app. One question did you stop taking the sleeping pills while you were doing the hypno thingy?

Cinque I am so happy and jealous at the same time that you are having nice slow days. Enjoy all of it.

Lori I am trying my best to get back into the groove / sticking to my window and fasting at least twice a week. Lets face it I feel better when I do. Now when I am full this feeling is so heavy if you understand what I am saying or if I am being clear. When my stomach is full I am slow and not very fun to be with.

So today I am closing my window at 6 pm and trying to stay below 500 cal.

See you all soon and hope Milena joins us too,
    m

Good job Makica! Remember we are being kind to ourselves and will just do our best! Baby steps!

I can’t imagine having sleep issues like you describe. I think I’m going to die if I just have a night or 2 of not enough sleep. I seem to do fine on 7 hours and that is my normal routine. I have nights, like last night, where I’m in bed for that long, but awake often. I listen to a hypnosis type download every night when I lay down. Last night I couldn’t shut my brain off and finally threw the headphones off and said forget it! Usually I set the timer for 60 minutes and I fall asleep before the first track is done at about 30 minutes. I have “sleep phones” which are flat speakers in a soft fleecy headband that allow you to lay on your side without killing your ears. Love them!

    Well……I do go on, don’t I? LOL!

    Hugs to all!

Lori love the “sleep phones” have to get me some. ๐Ÿ™‚ and I promise to be kind to myself.

    Love m

Hello all. Sorry to have been away for a few days. I must have hit the wrong link on one of your e-mails and inadvertently unsubscribed myself from the list. Wondered why you all went so quiet for a few days!

Salma, your breakfast sounded wonderful. I love that kind of food–got used to similar things when I was living in Bosnia. Now I frequent a Palestinian market in Minneapolis.

Cinque, how lovely to have skirts that were too small now be too big! You and Sherry are my models, I think both about my size and you two have been so successful. I seem to be in maintenance mode, managing only one fast day a week. So the waistbands remain tight. Most of my holiday parties are this week, however, so I’m actually hoping to get in at least a pair of fasts next week.

The holidays this year are somewhat depressing for me. My mother’s health is failing and my lover and I are apart for the duration (he’s in the midst of a divorce and off with his kids). We’ve had to cancel plans of our own as some health issues have come up in his family. So I’m kind of on my own this year. Well, perhaps that will make it a good time to fast.

Sorry to be so down this morning. Hope you are all keeping well.

    MM

MM ๐Ÿ˜ฅ, I feel so sad for what’s going on in your life right now! the holidays are tough enough without all of those circumstances you are dealing with! If you lived by me, you’d be at my house for Christmas Eve dinner! Are any of your friends available to get together during Christmas? If not, I say a nice nature walk in the snow then a
good bottle of wine and some wonderful old Christmas movies like White Christmas are in order!

Lori- do give us the name of the fuzzy headphones! I want some!

Congrats Cinque on loose skirts- what a joy! If you love them, you could always take them in at the tailor!

Makica- such a bummer re: the sleep issues. I’ve had them off & on since menopause- I was early-ish like Lori- 45. I drink Nighty night tea & take a Hyland homeopathic sleep remedy & it helps a bit. Salma told me to try her Paul McKenna CDs a while back and I need to do that. I think too that it’s your bad work environment getting to you! When you remedy that situation, I’m betting your sleep will improve!

Salma, yes I know when I’ve made poorer food choices, my back hurts more. Thank God, it’s getting better between eating better, pilates, the cold laser treatments ( now completed), and weekly chiropractor visits. The cleanse would definitely help your inflammation levels.

Another crazy day today- 8:30 at kids’ school for twins’ presentation of Christmas around the world, then on to hair appointment, back to school for the Around the World Christmas feast then on to one of our offices 45 minutes drive north for their Christmas party then back at 4:30 for my pilates appointment! Then made dinner and now need to pack for mountains! Aaaahhh! I’m exhausted! I will be offline for a few days now, but best of luck to all while I’m away!

    Love you gals!

    Sherry

    Hello everyone,
three bags of clothes gone to the Op Shop.
I did find a lovely black cotton skirt that I am unpicking some ugly white embroidery off, while sitting in front of the air cooler.
It fits me, just on the tight side, so will be perfect for Winter I hope.

I’m another one with insomnia, it came with my chronic illness. I go in waves: bad when I have done too much. I use all the sleep hygiene things and I am building up sleep at the moment.

MinnMiss, I have just cancelled everything I had on Christmas Day as I need a quiet day. So you can count on me saying hello to you while you are on your ownsome. I hope you can think of ways to make it a nice day. The advertising and hype does really rub it in for people who are not with family.

Hi all- I am with the menopausal sleep issues , I can get to sleep fine but wake somewhere between 2-4 most days. If its 2 generally go back off after about an hour of tossing and turning but if its 4, that’s it. Am hoping when I get my act together with healthy eating and 2 proper FD in jan when I am retired- eek only 3 more working days next week! – then things might improve as my stress levels go down.
I am looking forward to having more time and plan to walk a bit each day as well as plan my eating better. I would love to get into some skirts I have that I have never worn- bought on trips away or given as Xmas gifts and been too tight by the end of the trip or festivities.
Am finding the last few days at work difficult so not able to concentrate on eating well at all- too much sweet stuff doing the rounds and on weds next week they are doing a lunch for me.
Think I will need a cleanse in Jan!

    Hello girls,

Me too Lori.. I need those earphones!

Makica… I fully feel for you about the sleep issues and for all the other gals who are suffering with it. It was a very very difficult time for me.. I am sure this was/is related to menopause because I had never suffered with it before. I was at my wits’ end with lack of sleep and getting into really bad moods. I had never taken sleeping pills before, but had to resort to them as I was getting frantic with lack of sleep. I did NOT get used to them as I now can go to sleep and stay asleep through the night (most nights) with little problems. The doctor did tell me that there are different types.. some to make falling asleep easier and others for calming you down so you don’t wake up int he night. So, it is important to identify and treat the exact condition. I did not take then every night, but tried to resort to my lovely McKenna with the magic velvet voice as often as I could without taking the tablets. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. This went on for several months (I think around 10 months) before it got sorted. I agree with Sherry that work issues only serve to make this worse.

MM.. I am sorry about the troubles you are having and also about needing to spend Xmas alone. I have found “re-framing” a good way of dealing with things when they get rough.. basically, finding the silver lining. Cinque has the right idea: Not having all the hassle of the holidays.. getting some time for yourself.. watching some wonderful DVDs or whatever else you enjoy. Make it indulgent with maybe a chocolate scented candle int he background and some mulled wine and food you like. Sometimes silence is a true gift. We will all be sending loads of love and positive energy your way. By the way, how interesting to learn there is a Palestinian market in Minneapolis. If you can pick up some of the ingredients needed, I can send you a few recipes of things you like.

Sherry… you remind me so much of me a few ions ago when the kids were small. I get tired just remembering all the running around. I couldn’t do it now..You are my hero!!

Cinque.. I am doing a dance for you! I know (or should I say, remember) the feeling of finding skirts that are too loose. Alas, it is the opposite for me now. Last summer, my clothes were getting fairly loose, but now I can feel I am filling them up again. At least, they are not too tight, but I am faltering and the holidays with my kids here and my parents and the prospect of starting a new job are all aiding and abetting the decline. I have not given up yet, and as both Makica and Sherry say, my inflammation symptoms get worse when I go off the rails.. so, if for that reason alone, I have to get back to being diligent about FDs… and I will.. I will.

Susie and Lori.. I envy both of you for retiring soon.. I just feel so tired of the working world. Of course, when something exciting happens, it is nice and energizing, but I do get much more tired than I used to and sometimes just feel depleted. My parents move here is taking so much of my time as well.. and I have found that I did not really get the rest I was envisioning.. I just got two very busy months with no pay cheque!!!

Still.. I will practice what I preach and RE-FRAME.. I will now get time to spend with my two lovely boys and focus on the positive.

Have a greeeeaaaaaat Friday.. lets keep chins up and soldier on ๐Ÿ™‚

    Salma

    Good Morning my friends!

The earphones can be found at sleepphones.com or possibly on Amazon as well. I’m on my 2nd pair as my cleaning lady sucked up my first pair into her sweeper! I had thrown them on the floor in the middle of the night and forgot to pick them up in the morning. Oops!

I did pretty well with my eating yesterday. Stayed within my window, but did eat a few of those darn cookies again! They are gone now, so no more temptation sitting on my kitchen table.

Dressed and ready for boot camp this morning. Day 4 for the week. YAY! Next week I’ll have to do 3 days in a row as they’re closed from Dec 24 thru Jan 2. I think it’s nice that they give their staff off over the festive season, but some of the clients get upset and angry that they have to miss their workouts. They do provide 5 at home workouts to all of us, but I choose to give my body a break and be lazy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hoping for a quiet day at work. Inventory entries are done and booked and all the bosses are out today. Woohoo! I may start my final exam online for my nutrition course. It is 240 questions, but I don’t have to finish it in 1 sitting. We’ll see if I’m feeling it or not.

As I was reading about all of dealing with inflammation, I remembered reading a post on FB about “Golden Milk” as a drink to combat inflammation. It uses organic turmeric, ginger, cardamom & cinnamon mixed into whatever “milk” you like to use. Almond, soy or whatever. It warm drink and I wrote down the recipe and ordered the spices as I think it sounds very nice for a cold winter’s night. If anyone is interested in the specifics of the recipe, let me know and I’ll post it. It is quite easy.

MM…I feel bad that you will be alone for the Holiday. I hope you can enjoy a bit of it anyway. It’s a hard time of year for all the different drama this life can bring. Will be thinking of you.

Hugs to all and I’ll check back in on you all later. ((Hugs))

MM hop on a plane and come and spend Christmas with us. I am inviting you sincerely. It won’t be very exciting but different surely! You have where to stay and all the food you like. So no additional expenses.

Cinque so sorry it affects you sleep too. So good to hear about your wardrobe “problems” I wish I had those.

Salma I will try the velvety voice tonight. I did the first bit of getting up an half our earlier. I am taking some sleeping pills that help me relax. When I tried those that help you fall asleep I had nightmares so no more of those for me. Also tried all kinds of natural and homeopathic stuff and it helps for a while and then back to my night hell. I hope in time the meditation will also help.

Lori I kept in my window too although I spent most of my evening in a very nice restaurant. Glad the cookies are gone. Destroyed! LOL

    Bbey to all,

    m

    Hi
Lori- I might like golden milk, if you could post details? Thanks
MM sorry about your Mum ailing- it’s the age we are, just as our kids settle into independence then we have elderly parents to sort out. We had MIL in hospital last week, she lives 3 hours drive away. She seems ok now but at 85 guess more is to come for her.
Am having toes painted ready for Xmas!

No problem, here’s the Golden Milk recipe

1 cup of milk of your choice(I use unsweetened vanilla coconut/almond milk), heated
    1/2 teaspoon organic turmeric powder
    1/2 teaspoon organic ginger powder
A pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg & cardamom

If your milk is low fat(as mine is) you need to add a bit of fat to aid in absorption of the herbs. Just 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil or ghee is sufficient. Drink daily.

I can’t wait until all my herbs arrive so I can try it! Let me know what you think.

Thanks Lori.. as I use all these spices in my cooking, I actually have them on hand! I will try your recipe soon. I already know that ginger and Turmeric are anti-inframmatory.. so why do I not use them more? Thanks for the suggestion. A bit of honey might also be nice with it.

Makica.. I know the difficulty of what you are going through only too well. Please do try to tape and let me know if it helps. Another ‘home’ remedy that I found very useful and calming is drinking Aniseed tea before sleeping. You boil some water with aniseed seeds in it and then leave it to steep for a while. Strain and drink warm. We use this ‘tea’ to cal nerves and also to relax and bring on sleep. It is a very soothing drink. If it doesn’t help, it won’t hurt.

I am happy to report that I am back to the window restricted eating and giving myself a 7 hour window that I stuck to today and did quite well. I already feel lighter and more ‘in control’. I hope I will be able to do that for most days during this period. I have been swinging between sticking to resolutions and completely letting go. I had a touch self-talk this morning: if you carry on this way, you will be at least an extra 4 kgs heavier by the end of the year. I freaked out.. back to some control.

I hope you are all having a good evening.

    Salma

Omg! On a long car ride to mtns. & thought I’d pop in here & chat! Just lost the whole message! I’m so mad! You all kno how I hate typing on the darn phone!

Just noted that Lori’s milk sounds like my antiinflammatory cleanse tea except with milk instead of water & lemon. The tumeric is strong but I think the milk & cinnamon/nutmeg will help & I suggest adding stevia if u like sweeter drinks.

Sound like most of us menopausal gals suffer
from some form of sleeplessness! What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, right? Maybe that’s why we females live longer!

Salma, the eating window seems like a good aporia have during this crazy time of year- flexibility with some control! Oh & yes, I don’t kno how I “do” my crazy life sometimes either!๐Ÿ˜ณ

Just heard good news that snow is expected in the mtns. this wknd! Yay! There will be snow for the evening horse-drawn sleigh ride we have scheduled!

    Wishing u all a peaceful & restful weekend! ๐Ÿ˜˜

Salma- it’s approach not aporia! Darn phone & fat fingers! ๐Ÿ˜

    Hi Sherry,
Have a lovely drive! Hope you get that sleigh ride too! Ooh I would love snow. Forecast 42 degrees (107.6 fahrenheit) here today.

You are all making me hungry for turmeric, what a wonderful spice!

Salma congratulations for finding the window rhythm. It would be the best technique to work with the pressures of the time.

Makica aren’t you lovely! I hope MinnMiss could fly over to you. I bet that would lead to a riotous Christmas day!

Lori, good luck with the 240 questions!

What colour are your toes Susie? Christmas theme?

I’m off to have breakfast. Fast day tomorrow. Sunday Fast day is my favourite.

Hello to you all. I have been reading through your posts and would love to join in if I may?

I started out my dieting career as a 53kg 16 year old who thought she was overweight. I have managed to yo-yo diet my way to 81kg. I am only 160cm (5ft 3inches) so it is not a good look.

I live in a beautiful area of Australia called The Gippsland Lakes. I love to bake which is a major downfall when it comes to the usual diets. My most recent failure was Paleo – no grains allowed so how could I bake bread? I know there is more to life than bread but really, never ever being able to bake again just saddened me so much.

Anyway, cut to the chase, my naturopath suggested 5:2 as she feels that it might help ease my menopause issues and get me feeling a whole lot better. This along with the expected weight loss would be a wonderful thing. So here I am, 1 fast day down and feeling ok. My husband (who is almost the exact right weight for his height) is along for the ride as we read that it helps ward of dementia and a variety of other aging nasties.

Cinque-a deep shiny ruby red – very festive!
    Welcome Katy!

Susie.. Merry Xmas ruby red and all ๐Ÿ™‚
Welcome Katy.. your husband is right. I posted a link a few days ago that talks about this (here it is: http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/12/11/neuroscientist-shows-what-fasting-does-to-your-brain-why-big-pharma-wont-study-it/). I as well as others have found that it helps with inflammation of the joints as well. So, welcome on board and well done on your first fast day. It really is not that difficult and it DOES get easier once you get into the rhythm of it.

    Have a great Saturday everyone.

    Salma

Thank you for the welcome Susie and salma. I will certainly check out that link Salma. It is good news about the improvement of inflammation as well – I was unaware of that positive side effect.

    Good Morning!

Hi Katy! Welcome to our little group! How nice that you have your husband along for the ride. It will certainly make it easier not to have to watch him eat a big meal on a fast day. Good luck!

Slept in until 5:30 this morning. Actually, I was awake for awhile and just enjoying my warm “nest”. I heard the cat jump down from the bed at 5:30, so I knew that was my sign to get up. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The husband and I are going to go out and face the crowds to do a bit of last minute Christmas shopping this morning. Then it’s out for lunch. Tonight we have a Christmas party to go to at an Italian restaurant that has really good food. Something tells me that I’ll be overdoing it a bit today.

I wish I had all the spices I need to make the Golden Milk that I gave the recipe for yesterday. A cold day just sounds like the perfect time for that warm drink.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Thank you for the welcome Lori. It is bedtime here in Australia and I am looking forward to our next fast day tomorrow. It is very hot here so salad will be an easy meal to prepare.

    Hello all.

Welcome, Katy. Like you, I am 5’3″. There are several of us who are small women with not a lot of places to hide those extra pounds. And like your husband, I’m also doing this mostly for health reasons. I have high cholesterol and can’t/won’t take statins.

Makica, Sherry, Cinque you guys are so sweet! Thank you so much for the kind thoughts in invites after my rant about Christmas. It’s not really all that bad. I’ll be making Christmas dinner with two of my colleagues and their husbands. So I won’t be alone. It’s just that you want to spend Christmas with those you love the most. And, Makica and Sherry, I’m going to bank those offers and come visit you both some day.

Lori, you continue to amaze me with your discipline. Today you “slept in” till 5:30 while my “dog alarm” didn’t go off till 8:15! It’s too cold for long walks with them and they know it so stay happily curled up in their cushy beds. I’ll have to put in a session at the treadmill desk in order to get some exercise. But the sun is shining for the first time in weeks on our new snow, so it is lovely to look outside. Sherry, I hope you get lots of snow in the mountains. Where do you go?

Salma, I would love some of your favorite recipes. I love Mediterranean food!

Today the part of teaching I like the least–grading. Sigh.

Love to all. Milena, are you out there?

    MM

Hello!! Quick post again….I hope to be better after Christmas.

Welcome, Katylee! I’m fairly new, too.

Salma, thanks for the link. I hope to watch it soon!!

Sherryann, good job on the wrapping party!!

So the December challenge is over and I stayed at 1.5 pounds down, which I’m happy with. Now I’m just focusing on maintaining until my son returns to college Jan. 10!! I’ll be doing fast days as I can to contain the damage.

I agree we must be gentle and compassionate, reframing ideas as needed.

Boy, we have a lot of wisdom in the group!!!

    Happy Holidays!!!!!

    Hello everyone! ๐ŸŒŸ
Welcome Katylee! I’m in Melbourne and just survived the nasty hot night. Hope you did too! Bring on the cool change!

Congratulations on your December challenge Elizabeth, ๐Ÿ‘‘
MinnMiss I hope you can think of some humorous comments while grading, I know it is a tedious job, so I hope it goes quickly.

    Susie, ruby red is fabulous!

Fast day for me. My favourite day.
I am going to visit a friend for her birthday today just when it is hottest, but at least my car has air conditioning! We are both going to dress up! I don’t need to worry about food because she has so many food intolerances that we just keep it to a cuppa.

Best wishes to all of you for a good day, or a good night! ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒœ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒ›๐ŸŒ

Hi ladies & welcome to Katy! Sitting on a snowy road stuck until they pull some poor soul’s car off the side of the hill they went over (park ranger who stopped us said there were no injuries thank goodness!). We & two other carloads of friends & their kids are heading to the Ahwanee Lodge for a fancy dinner & it’s a slow go with the snow chains & car over the edge. MM, we are in Yosemite. It is beautiful, glorious & COLD… Sending some cold air your way to cool you off Cinque! We are all in awe because living in San Diego, you don’t often get to see snow falling!โ„๏ธ It is really getting us in the Christmas spirit! Praying I do ok during this dinner! I had a 2 egg veggie omelet for breakfast, a big handful of cashews near lunch & munched on baked snap peas s bit ago because I got hungry! Thought the omelet alone would hold me till dinner ( eggs often do) but I guess all the sledding/climbing back up the stairs to get on the run again with the kids worked up my appetite!

MM, you’re welcome for that visit anytime- San Diego or Hawaii! You can’t beat either! Glad that you will have some other folks to hang out with at Christmas!

Susie, I’m getting myself some nice ruby red toe nails when I get home from the mountains too!

Ok- traffic is finally moving! Onto the lodge. We’re going early because the lodge itself is supposed to be an old , spectacular place with a huge stone fireplace that you could stand in, carolers, big Xmas tree- all the things that make you feel Christmasy! ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿป!

Hi MM and Carolinacatz. Thank you for the welcome.

I have been amazed and impressed by the welcoming nature of this forum. I am only a few days into the program but I hope it will become my lifestyle. Thank you to you all.

    Good Morning!

Sherry….what a harrowing tale! Hope you had a fabulous dinner & returned safely to a nice warm bed for the night. Snow, cold & cars over mountain sides..what an adventure. Give me sun and warm weather anytime!

Hope you Australia girls are keeping cool. We have a very cold morning here, but later this week we’ll be up to unseasonably warm. YAY!

We didn’t get home from the Christmas party until after 11 last night. That is the latest I’ve been up for ages. Then at 3AM, the cat decided she wanted out. What fun! The husband got up and let her out and we got back to sleep for a few hours. We got up at 7:30 and I have my first load of laundry spinning. I need to wrap some gifts, hang the grandson’s stockings and try to get ready for Christmas. I had a bit too much to drink last night, so I’m moving a little slowly this morning. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Have a lovely Sunday!

Ugh! Had roast chicken for dinner which was good but then couldn’t seem to resist the creme brรปlรฉe which wasn’t so good of me!

More snow play on the schedule today , maybe to include snow mobiles! My girlfriends want to get a steam today at the spa at some point. Tonight is the sleigh ride! I don’t know who’s more excited, me or the kids!

    Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Good morning. Monday here! I hope the crime brรปlรฉe was a delicious one Sherry. Have fun there in the snow!

The heat wave is over and my home has just about cooled down. Woke up and having a cup of tea, but then I wil have a sleep in. I hope.

I hope you can have a slow day Lori? Drink lots of water!

    My fast day was good!

Actually, I have had a busy day! You know how some days you just go from one thing to another in the house? Always something to do. Went and bought wrapping paper etc and got all the gifts wrapped. Did 3 loads of laundry & washed our bedding and remade the bed. Did other misc stuff around the house and finally sat down at 2PM. The cat is happy as she has been waiting for me to sit down so she could lay on my lap. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope you’re all enjoying your day. I’m happy to have gotten so much accomplished on a Sunday!

Wow that’s impressive Lori. And I love the feeling after a productive day. Tell the cat you deserve to sleep through until at least 5:30!

    Good morning one and all..

Cinque.. you cracked mw up with the “crime” brรปlรฉe… it maybe a typo.. but how appropriate!

I also continue to be amazed at Lori.. I get tired just reading what she gets up to ๐Ÿ™‚

I had too much wine yesterday but it was a fun lazy day, so I have to make myself a bit more useful today.

Where IS Milena.. come back..we miss you, and Makica don’t disappear on us too!!

    Have a good one ladies,

    Salma
