  • Hi girls,
Oh my God.. yesterday was, as anticipated, a true feast day. A big breakfast today too. Thank goodness my sister is not here for a month, I would be as big as a house in no time. She is loving it.. enjoying every mouthful (as am I) so it is all in a good cause. She also exercised like mad and dieted before she came here knowing full well that it will take its calorific toll here with all the goodies.

Audrey, by all rights, I should be fasting today too, but I already did 2 days this week with an almost fast Sunday too,to allow for my sister’s visit, so I am not fasting this Thursday, but good luck with it. I always find Thursdays easier than Mondays anyway. I will probably have to do Saturday or Sunday to reduce the damage done these 3 days 🙂

Ginette.. Janey was the race horse, you are the mother earth who looks after all of us and gives advice and tips to old and new. Such a thoughtful, caring post. Thank you for it. I am sure Pam will find much to use from your advice.

Hello Pam and welcome to our Foodaholics Annonymous corner, where all are welcome fat or thin, resolute or halting (like myself), race horses or plodders (like myself). Just give us a shout if you need help or encouragement. We will be here for you!

    Have a great day everyone.

Gearing up for a fast day here too. When I got home from my hair appt last night I just ate this and that, which is dangerous! I would have been better off to prepare something and sit down and eat even if it was a bit later than usual. Sigh….
No matter, today is a new day and a chance to repair any damage. I’m afraid it’ll be a slow day at work, so that will make the fasting a bit harder. Lots of coffee, tea and water today. Dinner will be mostly protein.

    Have good days everyone!

Good luck Lori, I’m doing another, though I think I’mon a permanent fast at the moment.

After my 48 hour water fast had a chicken stir fry, bacon and eggs and chicken stir fry yesterday, and it’s bacon egg and tomato and pulled pork salad today. Probably pulled pork stir fry tomorrow.

Can understand how Atkins night work, very filling stuff, though I do add carrots, below ground veg. But I’m bored with it already, missing my bread and muesli. Probably not helped as being really strict on FBD so no treats. I’ll see how I go. Will probably be drunk tonight if I get to open my bottle of wine. Just off the vote, for a party I have never and would never normally vote for, and who I definitely dont want to win the election. Such is tactical voting in Scotland.

Got into my size 16 jeans – ok I created a bit of a muffin top, the fat has to go somewhere, but it’s not horrendous. And they are falling down, cos they aren’t the best shape for me. But they are on and they are comfy.

Bought them over over two years ago, still had tags on.

    Have a great day!!!

You want to lose 23Kg, it’s a tough task, if you want to achieve this task in a short span of time you should join a gym with a personal instructor. You should also control your daily diet; stop eating fatty foods. Instead go for juices, eggs, fruits, salads and other natural and healthy alternatives. You can also take a supplement to lose your weight but before using it consult with a dietician.

Wow Annie88, thanks for that info.

Though we’re a sensible lot on here, we know that to lose weight AND keep it off, its a life change, and slowly and surely does.

We are all healthy eaters and we exercise.

And we’re not big on juices here, whad with fruit juices especially being downright bad for you!!

After all, a personal trainer IS just for Christmas!!

Juices??!! they were one of the first things I ditched. So much sugar, literally poison. Totally agree milena.

Personal trainer! I wish I could afford one of those I can’t even afford the gym fees!
fruit juices pure poison full of sugar and calories!

Will just stick to 5 2 and my wii fit thanks

    Hi all,

Thanks for your words of welcome and support!
Ginette: Yes, you may call me Pam and thank you for the amazing suggestions. I am going to consider them my guidebook in starting this plan! I’m 56 and need to lose about 50 lbs. My husband and I have a trip to Spain planned in 6 months and I’m looking at that as a goal to work toward. Of course, I don’t expect that I’ll be able to lose ALL the pounds in that time, but maybe half???

In all honesty, I think I need to consider this a lifestyle change for better health rather than another diet (that I’ve tried and given up on). It’s purely a psychological trick, I know, but it’s how I need to think about it. In this next phase of my life, what Jane Fonda might call my “third act” I want to be healthier, have more energy, and feel good about myself again. I guess those are my real goals in beginning this program.

I live in the U.S. (in Kentucky). It’s wonderful to “meet” you all!

    Pam

Welcome Pam & what wonderful goals! You can be well on your way to losing the weight you want by the time you go to Spain. What a fantastic thing to look forward to!

Being healthy in the 3rd act of my life is my goal too! I’m 55 and my main focus is staying healthy and active. I do have a pesky 25 lbs hanging around that I shouldn’t, but it doesn’t keep me from doing what I want.

I’m in the U.S. too, Pennsylvania. Nice to meet some other people in the same time zone. Actually, I guess our time is different by an hour. Close enough! Good luck on your journey and post often!

    Hi Pam,
I started in January this year with 40 lbs to lose and I have now lost 20 of them.
It is doable if you stick to your tdee. I like ginette work on my target tdee as I figure that I will have to get used to less calories when I lose all my weight.

Good luck with your first week and let us know how it’s going.

I am just off to get my slow cooker beef out of cooker ready for my evening meal

    Enjoy your day American ladies!

    Audrey

Hi Pam and welcome! I am sure you can lose at least half of your 50lbs in 6 months, and you will enjoy doing it. A lot of people say they look forward to their fast days and I certainly do. This is an amazing WOL, we know it works and most think it is something we can carry on doing when we are thin. Notice the “when” not “if”

I have lost 26lbs since 5/1/15. I have been fat forever, so if I can do it anyone can.

I live in Spain. Which area are you visiting?

Audrey, your slow cooked beef sounds yummy. Steak and chips for us tonight 🙂

    Hi Audrey

Hopefully it will help in some way. Your slow cooker beef sounds lovely. I agree it is difficult to understand when you are not in 5:2 frame of mind.

    Hi Salma

It is important to enjoy times as well. You are right to savour every mouthful. As long as we have these times we can make this a WOL. These are as important as the fasts for our mental wellbeing. You can soon get back to it.

Nice to be Mother Earth, I just try to help ease the struggle. First week I did find hard. Second easier, third no problem. Our hiccups are even good for people to read, after all we are all human. These things happen. Not that I think your time is a hiccup this is definetly enjoyment, so enjoy it. Hiccups to me are when you have one of those days and overeat for no apparent reason.

    Hi Lori

I often eat late. Last night it was about 9 due to frantic sorting out mode. Luckily today I feel relaxed after a good uneventful sleep. I didn’t sleep until 5am my mind was too busy and I really didn’t want nightmares, so this makes 9pm seem early. Hopefully I can now start getting hours back to some king of routine. It normally takes me about three days.

Tea fills me up nicely. This is what I do on a fast day. Just had a lovely Mango. Delicious but what a pain to get off the stone.

    Hi Milena

Size 16 is brilliant, you will soon banish that muffin top. Yes protein is nice and filling. I am experimenting with different sauces in stir fry. Any ideas?

    Hi Annie88

Wow, that is a bit of a strong post! Maybe it would have been nice to introduce yourself first. We meander along happily on this forum and find our own way. We sometimes suggest trying different things, yours was more in the form of an order. A bit over the top.

We try to help build up people’s self esteem and we all respond well to this.

Who can afford a personal instructor or maybe even want one. This is not everybody’s choice, though it may be yours. If it works for you fine. I agree with Milena, Apple pie and Audrey. Juice maybe nice to drink but there is so much evidence showing that they aren’t good for you, that it would be unwise to think that. Apart from the weight issue there is also teeth and gum health. I saw a programme on TV showing you do children having their teeth pulled out through sweet food and drinks. So sad.

Also why on earth would you need to take a supplement if 5:2 is working?!

    Hi Pam

I am glad that you found it helpful. I am sure that if you embrace 5:2 you will lose half of it at least. I play scrabble occasionally with someone in Illinois. My cousin in Canada has never heard of it. If you can find the original programme this would be good to watch as well. I don’t know if anyone here can supply a link. I watched it twice.

I can say it has helped me lose weight and gain something really important for me. Forum friends a community to share times with good and bad. People who won’t judge you, but encourage you along the way. This is the first time I have ever written on a forum. I have asked random technical question on others. This one though has a nice feeing of belonging to a community.

Well the sun is shining here after the last couple of days and the wind has dropped. So weather is being kind.

    Have a nice day all.

    Ginette

Don’t use a lot. Standby I’d Lea and Perrin Worcester aside, 5 cals a serving, and soy. I have light and dark. 5 cals. Also blue Dragon plum sauce. Not huge calories, 25 if you just use a little, but a third sugar, and Hoi Sin sauce, slightly fewer cals but about half is sugar. Last two are sticky sauces, but you only need a little.

    Hi Milena

I have used hoisin which was quite nice but just wanted to try some others. With soy sauce light, is that light in calories or not so strong. I never thought about using Worcester Sauce, although I have some.

    Thanks for the ideas.

    Ginette

Phew Annie88.. a lot of shoulds!
I think we “should” be kind to ourselves and others.. and round here, in this forum, we are all sorts.. Wii enthusiasts, couch adherents, gymnasts and other regular folk. We come in all shapes and sizes and we pull together to help each other along this difficult path at different paces. Not everyone can afford a personal trainer. One size most certainly does not fit all around here. Just sayin’

Milena.. I am so very pleased for your size 16s. I am doing cartwheels here, even if in my size 18s (still). Really well done! Two days of water diet? Are you becoming a masochist? Question: Does a liquid fast include wine? It IS liquid, isn’t it? But seriously, how does it feel to go on nothing but water for 2 days? I think I would be ready to slit my wrists.

Talking of sizes.. I had to clear out my spare cupboard yesterday and in it, I had hung around 20 or so winter outfits from my distant past when I was a size 12 (sometimes 10). I did not have the heart to give them away because they are such nice fabric and quality, but they were truly forgotten as I had never got into them since who knows when. It made me wonder whether I will have a whole new wardrobe just waiting for me next winter? Here’s hoping and wishing, eh?

Pam.. Just think, if you lose 4 lbs a month (a bit less than 2 Kgs) you will have lost 24 lbs in six months. That is very very doable and I think you can sparkle in Spain in Six months 🙂 If you just manage 20lbs, that is still a sizable difference (please forgive the pun). You may actually lose more..

Applepie, by the way, which part of Spain are you in? I love Spain. I was in Andalucia with my kids there last year. Loved it!

I am still on the loose as far as eating is concerned, so I won’t bore you with the weird and wonderful things I am munching my way through, but I am sue I will be appropriately contrite over the weekend.

Good luck to all the fasters tomorrow and have a great evening.

Lori – Yes, I’m in the central time zone here in KY. I hope you’re having a beautiful spring day there. Great temperatures here and none of that sticky summer humidity yet!

Audrey – I can almost smell your slow cooker beef! I’m impressed and inspired to read of your accomplishments!

Apple Pie – Also inspired by your story – 26 lbs since January! We will be flying to Barcelona and will be there for a week, then up to Lyon for a few days and then off to Belgium where we have friends who live in Brugge. So excited for this trip. Our last trip abroad was in 2009 to Italy.

Ginette – YAY! I found the documentary, Eat, Fast & Live Longer and just finished watching it! VERY enlightening and inspiring! I feel that when I begin my first fast day on Monday, I will be much better prepared.

I am going to tell myself, “The first week may be difficult, BUT, that’s okay–just expect that it might be, then think about your goals, and think about all the other strong women out there who have done it — YOU can do it, too!” May sound a little kooky, but that’s what I’m going to tell myself – – maybe OUT LOUD! Hah! I have never been one to write on a forum, either, but I feel good vibes from this one and certainly feel everyone’s encouragement and well wishes to succeed! Thank you!

    Hi All

Well after a lovely meal out I have exceeded TDEE by 86 calories. That is the calorie goal set by my fitness pal as the one that comes with fast diet is too great. I think that it is maintenance TDEE. It sets mine at over 2000. Whereas my fitness pal sets it at 1,580.

I rarely get anywhere near this. I had chicken and bacon stack. A salad and wholemeal roll…..and sorry to say……skip this bit Milena……… a sundae with Belgian chocolate sauce. Thankfull that was quite small. I had a mango for lunch and milk in tea. Well that tome is a result. The food was nice, the company was nice and the £30 voucher was great. So we only paid £7 over the top. My guests had a wine and a cup of tea. I had a pint of water. This is my usual although I sometimes have a cup of tea. I thought about a nice cappuccino coffee, but thought better of it.

I did also look at fruit salad, but thought better of it as well. Giggle……

Tomorrow I shall do a fast day to make up for it. I know it’s not true to FBD but I couldn’t waste a £30 voucher. Could I??

    Hi Salma

Well it is a few months to winter. How nice to have clothes waiting. I have clothes that I have never worn as well as some I have. I still have size 10 and 12 jeans. But now I am looking at the size 22s so that is my next target.

Our sizes in England are very different to the American and Canadian sizes. As my stepmother bought me a really nice blouse and it swamped me. A shame I really loved the colour.

    Hi Pam

Yes Salma is right. My target was to lose about 4lb a month as a minimum. At least while I have a lot to lose as I know it will slow down later. This is a good target. I set myself 1/2 stone targets to get to which is very achievable. Long term targets are in the back of my mind, but too far off to worry about.

So pleased you have seen the documentary. It really was inspiring. I was so impressed by his bloods as well. I have just had mine taken so I will see where I am now. The last time was about two years ago. I am going to ask for a print out.

You have a good attitude and I know it will work out for you. Weight loss may even be slow at first, mine has speeded up. You sound as if you are looking forward to it.

I bought the updated book on kindle as well. I had read the original one in paper form. Now I have the other one as well.

    Ginette

    Hi Pam

you are in good company, we are here for the long haul – except Applepie, but we need her around to help – was reading your food on another thread, Applepie, all I can say is keep it up lass – eating proper normal food – you show us its possible, of course I know you fast, but you are showing that you don’t have to all of the time – in fact it is possible to indulge, not just at maintenance but before – this is what will make it work!

Watching the three Hobbits, late night for us all waiting for the election results – we are even now looking at possible places to live in England! Couldn’t put a bet on Salmond’s seat but I put a fiver on the SNP seats – the exit polls are double mine, but I know quite a lot of intelligent Scots, so I’m hopefull! And a fiver on the majority. Apparently the first bet they had in my William Hill bookies – in case you were wondering, couldn’t quite remember where he was as the last time I was in was in 1992, for a Grand National bet! Interesting that the Scots, known for gambling, aren’t betting in my town!

Fingers crossed I win something – and if you could give me an idea of house prices or land prices in your areas …….. maybe not just the UK!

forgot to say, not missing Poldark, lusting after Aiden in THREE hobbit films, and Luke Evans and Richard Armitage too. Puts me off thinking of food, even though OH is eating cake and son is eating choc ice cream. Pure in body if not in heart!!!

I still haven’t watched Poldark. I was just playing scrabble with my neighbour online.

I think I am going to catch up on a bit of TV now. Will still post if messages come through though. I know people are in different time zones. Enjoy your films.

    Ginette

Pam – Barcelona! A fabulous place. We are further south. Bruge is lovely too. Have a wonderful time. Remember to measure yourself everywhere before you start and take a full length photo. Another good documentary is Fed Up.

Salma – We are just south of Alicante. Have a look at my photos on Facebook.

I am not there yet milena, still at least half a stone to go. But as you see, I do enjoy my food, but then again I do enjoy my fasts. Did you do a 2 day liquid only fast? Wow, I am impressed.

    Morning all,
I had rather a bad day food wise yesterday so today a doing a fast day.

I have made a turkey bolognese sauce in my slow cooker and am going to have it with some bare naked noodles! I have counted out my calories in the sauce and it comes to 900 for the whole pot so by the time it’s divided up should be very low calorie indeed!

Am off out for the morning to a caravan shop so have a great day whatever you are doing, will let you know later how many portions I get out of my sauce.

    Audrey

    Hi Audrey

I failed with the low carbs attempt. Four fasting days in a row, not even intentional, actually the past couple of days have been really easy. Probably due to not having carbs.

    But sooo boring.

Was up all night watching the election, didn’t open the wine cos who wants to celebrate living in a one state madhouse? On the other hand the booze sounds quite good, drink myself to oblivion.

So still on target re having no treats. But had a bowl of muesli. Delicious carbs. And very tasty.

And I put a fiver on a conservative majority – looks like a win. Lost a fiver on the number of SNP seats though.

Unless I fell asleep and had a nightmare???

    Hi all,
has anybody tried the bare naked rice?

I have just been on Web site and ordered some, wondered if anyone else has used them?

    Audrey

    Hi Applepie

Saw your bikini photos, what an achievement. You must feel great. I know you still want to lose another half a stone. You have done brilliantly since the start of the year. It is encouraging to see that you have lost so much in a short space of time when you are so near target now.

    Hi Milena

I am glad you enjoyed the museli. I am waiting to have mine. It seems that once a week I am having a high calorie meal, so that it all I am allowing myself. Next week is the wedding so that is out. I may have some the week after as I am mighty curios to try them.

It wasn’t a failure it was a trial, you are doing brilliantly. Don’t beat yourself up over it.

I am so glad you won something. What were the odds?

I was up until 5 watching the alternative one on C4. Very funny.

Hi Audrey, posted to you on the other thread.

Some interesting article here that had nothing to do with fasting but does involve something you eat. Really worth a look. I shall try this. It is about germs and how to avoid them with relation to colds, flu etc.

    http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2013/04/onions-and-mayonnaise-very-interesting-2626680.html

    Ginette

    Hi All

    Interesting article by Michael Mosely

All about why a some fats are good for us. Good news for butter cream etc bad news for margarine etc.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2695030/I-wrong-feasting-FAT-says-The-Fast-Diet-author-DR-MICHAEL-MOSLEY.html

    Ginette

    Hi Ginette
Great link about good fat and bad sugar! I posted that photo hoping for sympathy not praise. I have always had thinish legs and a small bum. My weight has always been in my top half and my waist, the danger area. I still barely have a waist, unlike lucky Milena. Did you see the other photos? I have tagged you in them, they are on my page not the group one.

Milena a failure? you? I don’t think so. The weight is dropping off you!

It’s been a scorcher here today and I have been getting my figures together for our Spanish tax return. Not my favourite occupation.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    HI ladies,

Well it’s bloody awful here Applepie so I am glad someone is getting some sun. Pouring down and overcast, said to be here for a good 24hrs.

Ginette great article I have been eating and advocating butter and cream for a long time. I have been having cream in my drip/instant coffee for about 18mths and never touch margarine. No one would if they saw how it’s made and the rubbish that’s in it. This is why I prefer a high fat, high protein diet and cut out sugar.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend despite the awful weather.

    Jaye 🙂

    Hi Ginette

Duracell bunny her, I lasted the course, watched the three hobbit films, might do the LOTR set this weekend, I’ve seen it do often can work and watch!

6pm now and still rushing around, though I had hoped I had fallen asleep and has a nightmare about the Scottish result, just shows you can have a nightmare while awake. And still just the one MP actually in government. How can 5% of the vote get 56 seats and 14% just the one????

I’ve always been able to miss a nights sleep, but 4? And not even feeling tired? One doing one thing differently, 5:2. Someone should be studying me. The muesli will out my calories way up on the rest of this week, about 350 so far , it was more than a portion, pork stir fry soon.

sorry Ginette, to answer your question re my bet, 10/1- it was 1/20 on a hung parliament. Twenty quid bet to win a pound.

I should be a political pundit, as soon as Jimmy Kranky opened her gob I knew there was a good chance.

Have worked out the kcal for my bolognese sauce comes to 113 kcal per portion very low indeed. So have had big plate of bare naked noodles with bolognese sauce and still have over 300 kcal left!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

    Audrey

    Hi Milena

Not a good return on the bet then.

    Audrey

That sounds super low. I have never made anything with turkey mince.

There was an Interesting programme that I have just watched which was on last night. Eat fat, stay fit? Only half an hour but the results the 5 people who did an experiment were. Good. It was on ITV. Obviously all in moderation.

Gives me hope for my cholesterol results next week.

    How is everybody doing?

    Ginette

not bad, £50 win on a £5 bet – but the hung parliament was the interesting one, must have thought it a crying certainty.

Nice Win, enough to treat yourself to something nice. Maybe wait until the end of FBD as you will hopefully have good losses. I have got over my guilt about the ice cream……life is too short, it is not as if I do this very often. I have realised today that I haven’t had any brad this week yet. Must have a sandwich tomorrow. How is Willow, a little better I hope.

    Ginette

Day is nearly at an end. 8:30 and I’m thinking it’s time for bed! Having not slept well last night and then getting up early and doing boot camp this morning plus a day at work as me worn out! We went out for dinner with some friends and I had a glass of wine. That has made me nice and mellow. 😉

Up early tomorrow and driving 1.5 hrs to watch 2 of our Grandsons play baseball. It’ll be a full day. Sunday I’ll be golfing and before I know it, it’ll be time to go back to work Monday morning!

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Good morning everyone..

At the risk of sounding like I am a complete fake at this 5:2 – because all I talk about is huge meals I am having, sorry! – I took my sister to a very special restaurant yesterday that does exquisite food and has a set menu of more really delicious small dishes than you can eat and several rather irresistible desserts. Needless to say, we overate and stuffed ourselves full. I am only following one of Milena’s rules when I recount this, mind.

I am still full from yesterday and feeling like a true glutton .. but tomorrow (or today) is another day. My sister leaves this morning, so I have decided to fast this Saturday to try to contain the damage. This will be the third day fasting this week, but I seriously doubt that I will have avoided a gain. Ah well..

To those of you in the UK, what a nerve wracking election.. it must have been an edge-of-your-seat experience; and Scotland! Well!

Lori, are you also having sleep problems? I have had to the doctor with this. I have always been able to sleep quickly and well until around 5 months ago. It is, literally, a bit of a nightmare.

    Have a good Saturday everyone.

    Salma,

Don’t worry too much about it, you have to be able to live your life as well as do 5 2.

The important thing now is to just get back to the 5 2 and know that you have had a good visit with your sister and made some good memories.

My daughters wedding is coming up in June, and I am not going to count calories on that weekend, I am just going to enjoy the experience, I have already decided this and once it is over then will get back on 5 2.

The restaurant sounds yummy hope you enjoyed it.

    Audrey

Salma..your dinner sounds wonderful! Enjoy every minute!

No..I don’t typically have sleep problems. Thursday night was a bizarre night. I got some rather upsetting news after work and my mind was just whirling. Things will work out, but you know how it is when you can’t shut your mind off.

Having a cup of coffee before we head out for a day of baseball with the grandsons.

    Have a nice day!

    Hi Salma

I am glad you enjoyed your time with your sister. Audrey is right that what 5:2 is all about. You must enjoy yourself.

You will soon put that right.

The answer to your question the other day (sorry read it and then forgot to answer). Well I liked my plate but it was the scanning products in that was a pain. It didn’t recognise them and I had to then put it in by hand. My fitness pal scans so well. There are some strange things though like a pear (I think) had more than one calorie value. Well I just choose the one I like. It even had one supermarket pear different from another. Apart from that I found it quite good.

Audrey – I know you have asked this on another link. I will get to that soon.

Here is a link to the fast beach planner. The last page is the most important, so scroll through until the end.

    http://thefastdiet.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/FB-PLANNER.pdf

    Hi Salma

As you know I have sleep problems, after an awful night during the week and then a night up with the election I have had a good night.

My I can help your stress should be here next week. Also I am seeing an acupuncturist Monday. so that should help. Someone I have seen before, but for a physical problem.

I am half watching Paul Hollywood and bread and biscuit making on TV. Am I mad?!

Well I lost 1lb – I am pleased and disappointed all in one. I was worried about how much I was losing as 3lb was good, 5lb was excessive, and 1lb. Well not sure….good that I have lost though. I can only think about when I was moaning about added water due to the heat, maybe as the weather cooled last week that was the result a lot of water and some weight. Oh why do we try to analyse??

Anyway, next week I am hoping for two, even though I have the wedding.

Well, I will stop my ramblings now.

    Have a good weekend.

    Ginette

    Hi All

These are whole day meal plans. Again from Woman magazine.

    http://www.womanmagazine.co.uk/food/500-calorie-meal-plans-52-diet/

    Thanks for link ginnette

Have had a look at them, some good recipes on here will keep it for when I am stuck for ideas!

    Hi All

Here is a book of recipes. I prefer the ones from woman magazine. Those have pictures and are more normal foods for me. These are a little more unusual.

There are lots….and I mean lots of info for anyone interested in 5:2 and has or hasn’t read the book. Lots of pages 200 +. So maybe good for those just starting or those who want to remind themselves. Includes recipes. I don’t know what they are like though.

Also good for the lurkers. Come on in and join us. I have only glanced at the first few pages, but I will save it for later.

Today’s fast was so hard! I almost threw the towel in, but I persevered and the day is almost over. Pat on back in order.

Ginette, I really like the “Woman” recipe’s and how they are laid out. Thanks. I am are I will get some inspiration there. We tend to fall back on the tried and tested, so it is nice to see a variation every now and again.

Tomorrow: Scrambled eggs, beans on toast, proper caffe latte. Can’t wait

    Good night everyone.

    Hi All,

Sorry for posting so late. Just FYI, the next two weekends are music festivals all weekend, so I’m not sure I’ll be posting again until the end of the month–but I’ll try.

I’ve heard vaguely about the UK elections, but haven’t had the time I’d like to really figure out who got elected and what the ramifications are. Sorry about that–due to being an anglophile, I’m normally better informed on these things, but it just hasn’t happened this time.

Ginette, I know what you mean about sleep problems–though I wouldn’t really call it that. There are times that I’m just so excited I have trouble getting to sleep! You have no idea! There was a period of 2-3 years (until about a year or so ago) where I was so miserable (due to too much going on to mention here) that it was all I could do to drag myself out of bed and keep going from day to day. That has completely turned around 180 degrees, and it’s just so exciting there are times I could burst out laughing!

Exactly two weeks ago today I first reached my goal weight. Tomorrow will be two weeks since I first reached my goal and then started yo-yoing above and below it due to various events involving food (including a visit from the new CEO of my company involving free lunch–with one day’s notice this past week). I’m thrilled to say that I’m back on track and below goal–and just in time to have the clothes I got at the clothing exchange (and others that are too big for me now) altered at the seamstress’ this afternoon! Yippee hooray!

Since I was below weight, I increased my TDEE today to follow the new maintenance plan, and kept below it (because of going off so much, I’ve still been about 200-250 calories below the new plan on days when I didn’t go off). I’ll see how much I weigh tomorrow morning, but as long as I’m at goal I’ll start my maintenance plan officially then. I had half a chocolate bar after dinner:
http://www.purelovechocolate.com/12-chocolate-bars and feel more full than usual, but not too much.

I’m still trying to figure out maintenance. To that end, I’ve made an appointment for a Vo2 Max test toward the end of next month. That will tell me exactly how much fat I burn during exercise, and with the help of the new fitness trainer we will figure out the most efficient way for me to exercise to burn fat (there’s still way too much of that for my liking–even at my target weight, and is the next hurdle for me).

I’m really looking forward to eating more than I have been, and foods that I haven’t been eating (I’ve even bought salmon for next week–I haven’t had that since before 5:2). They were out of the chicken today, but should have more on Monday, and I look forward to getting it then–at a health food grocery with a deli counter that does all the food weighing (salmon too) for me so it’s properly portioned when I get it. Life is good! All the best to the Fast Beach dieters and everyone else as well.

    Oh dear,

Been on scales and I have put 2lb on, first time ever, I have no one to blame but myself, I have eaten too much since I came home.

I am now back on 5 2 a fast day today including exercise and my food is sorted out ready for me, no chocolates today!

Feel ashamed of myself, but will do better I promise!

    Audrey

Commiserations Audrey.. I know how it feels. On weighing in this morning, after a full fast, I am up by 0.4 Kg (about 1 lb) at 88.4Kg.

Janey.. so nice to hear from you. I think maintenance is probably more of a challenge than losing the weigh, and you have to stay vigilant, as you seem to be. Well done and congratulations on the new wardrobe and the new calories 🙂

Well.. today is a non-fast day and I have just had a substantial brunch. I will probably have nothing until supper when I will have a minestrone soup and a piece of wholemeal bread. Monday is a fast day and from next week, I should be back on the 5:2 properly after all the c=vacation eating and other distractions.

I have not been to the gym for over a month now and I am beginning to entertain ‘thoughts’ – still at that stage – of making my way back, but I seem to have pulled a muscle in my calf which has become very painful, so I may still have an excuse to avoid moving at all. I am not a natural athlete and I have to literally FORCE myself to exercise. Urgh.

    Thanks Salma,

I believe you are right about maintenance being more difficult. Also, it seems like I have the trimming down to a science, but the maintenance introduces more guesswork. However, I’m guessing that will only be temporary until I get the hang of it.

For myself, I have found that when I get out of the habit of exercise (due to illness or injury) that is when the aches and pains tend to crop up. When I’m exercising regularly (as I am and have been–even more so since this past Thursday when the aerial studio has become available once more) I hardly have any aches and pains at all. It took a while of exercising for this to happen, but I don’t regret it one bit! I wish the same for you Salma.

    All the best,

    Jayney

    Good Morning All!

Jayney, you are so right about exercise. I feel so much better when working out regularly. Of course there is the initial muscle soreness, but once you start to feel stronger, it makes you feel great. It’s hard to get started, that’s for sure.

I’ll be heading to the golf course in a couple hours to walk 18 holes. It’ll be about 14,000 steps on my pedometer. I’ll be a tired girl when I get home. I won’t worry too much about what I eat today as I’ll be burning well over 1,000 calories playing golf. I will, however, try to stay away from sweets!

    Have a fabulous day!

    Hi Salma

Yes I like the way they are laid out as well. I shall be trying some soon. I like to keep out of the kitchen on fast days, but I might have them for non fast days.

I am thinking of having a few things changed, one is my kitchen updated, so I might me painting soon. I was in sorting out mode last week. I am hoping this will continue. Once a week would be nice.

I shall have a nice orderly clean house if it goes to plan.

Exercise suffered a bit last week because of it. I had to do a ridiculous 56 mins on one day to reach my weekly target. This would have normally been over two days, but as I had set it I HAD to achieve it. Watch this Audrey as the weekly challenges you set up yourself are also good. I have to make sure I achieve them. Might set next weeks a little lower as I am out a bit and a really early 5.30/6am start on the day of the wedding.

    Hi Janey

I am so pleased you have reached maintenance and now you will have to learn how to maintain. Maybe tricky. If you join the maintenance thread still post her for updates, as we will miss you.

I am so glad your life has turned around. You sound as if you are enjoying it now.

    Hi Salma

As you know the food in transit argument also applies to you and you will lose this and more quite quickly. This is why I like the Wii exercise, addictive in a good way, you only need to do a little at a time. I sometimes think I will do 10 minutes but as you are rewarded with points at 15 mins and 30 mins, I never really stop at this. I sometimes think well I will go on to do 20 mins and then realise that I have got to 22 and of course then I head for 30.

I can exercise in my nightclothes if I want to and then get dressed as it always works up a bit of a sweat. I normally exercise before eating as it is meant to burn more calories this way. I then have to wait for half an hour at least to cool down and have the energy to eat.

    Hi Lori

Nice to hear you are back on the golf course. What course do you okay a well known one? I have the PGA golf on the Wii for relaxing. I play it with a neighbour. Strangely addictive for somebody who has never played golf. I can play all over the world on this.

I started plating on a Wii sports resort game and liked it so much I thought I would see what else was out there. I have had an older version of the game and this one which is updated. I normally buy them second hand at Amazon.

    Enjoy your day all.

    Ginette

Thank you all for your kind words and support it is much appreciated.

I have had a good workout and am planning a good fast day today so hopefully will repair the damage to my weight soon.

Janey keep in touch don’t forget about us now you are at target weight Congratulations.

Salma hope your weight goes back down tomorrow.

Lori enjoy your golf sounds like great exercise, I have never tried it.

Ginette have spoken to you on other thread but thanks again!

    Audrey
