@bigviking, now that is what I call the ‘weight to go’!!! Congratulations and really really well done.
I am about to make dinner and crunched the numbers for those pesky little calories which just leap out at me every which way and find to my exasperation that I only have 400 calories to play with ( and what did I expect after cheesecake ??? Duh!!).
Was looking forward to an indulgent chicken casserole but will stick with boiled eggs, avocado and tomato ( which is delicious but I have been fantasising about the chicken casserole for longer than is probably good for me.)
Sometimes visualisation is not so good!!
@ and….exhale. Hope the concert and singing goes well this afternoon.
Thinking about singing and calories and this song just popped into my head to the tune of ‘Where have all the flowers gone?’
Where have all the calories gone?
Long time passing ( bit of a double entendre unintended!)
Where have all the calories gone?’
Not so long ago.
Where have all the calories gone?
Gone to Lily’s stomach, every one.
When will she ever learn????
When will she EVER learn????๐ฎ๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐ต

Make it a super day everybody! And, thanks to all for posting…love reading all of them…so helpful when you realize we all are struggling and together we can get there!

Day 7 Newcastle UK NFD.
A bit late checking in today.
21 mile bike ride this morning + cleaning the taxi and the wife’s car. Burning about 3,300 calories per week with the 20 minutes hit training on my rowing machine 6 nights a week along with the bike work too.Lost another half inch off my measurements this week and down 1.5lbs so far this week. Need to stay focused today.
Keep at it people we’ll all get there. Newcastle winning Brighton drawing hopefully the championship title could be ours ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Day 7 – USA (Illinois) – NFD
Going to make today very controlled, more than yesterday. Still at maintenance 160.2 this morning even after some nice indulgences yesterday. Our PEO luncheon was delightful with a delicious chicken breast with Parmesan flavoring on a Waldorf-esque salad, roll & butter, small piece of carrot cake for dessert. Meat nachos for supper then.
Off to church – onward and downward, everyone!
Day7 UK FD
Whew! Survived my girls night away . Had decided in advance that alcohol how would be a no no as it generally leads to mindless eating!!! So had one prosecco and called it a night… big party girl me! Tried not to snack on the mountain of crisps, nuts and cheese etc but doing a FD today just in case.
As I’ve said before, an event this that would have led to me ” throwing in the weight loss towel ” but now am mindful of reporting on the forum and trying to stay on track!
@at – you are so wonderful to remind us that this WOL does not mean deprivation. I keep forgetting that along the way.
@and…exhale – I must have missed what Mozart you are singing, but why do I think it must be his “Requiem?” I long to sing that one again sometime! Hope it went wonderfully.
@annemarilyn – I would have loved hearing your holocaust survivor speak. I’m very pro-life and support CareNet around here.
@lola907 – binges can be both devastating and disheartening. People on this board do understand and care, and hopefully we can all help each other more.
@minnygirl – pizza is such a draw for those downfalls! We supply lots of Chicago cheese in our county with the most dairy farms of all Illinois counties. That of course means we make pretty darn good pizza here too (2 hours west of Chicago).
@lilymartin – Pete Seeger and I love your adaptation of “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” Terrific!
Day 7, Germany, NFD
@lilymartin I had to laugh after reading your post because last year I was in the same state of mind. I went on a holiday for the first time with my best friend, we know eachother for 40 years but never went on a holiday together. Her twin brother owns an appartment near Nizza, we decided to go there for our first holiday together. We were both overweight and decided this was the time to change our life (how naiv can you be). We were determined to eat heathily and walk a lot. Day 1 was fine. On day 2 we went to Grasse, had a not so good salad at the museum, had an early dinner in Nizza without a desert. On the way home we passed a bakery, made a u-turn, went in the bakery and we bought 2 (!) fruitcakes (the bit of fruit was the healthy part). From that day on we were lost, we just ate, hardly did any walking but took the bus. And ofcourse bought cakes every day. My pants didn’t fit me anymore, I had to borrow one of my friend’s SIL. Being away together was great, but I won’t do it again, it got so out of control. It made me mad and sad and I was so disappointed about myself. Not a good state to be in mentally, it paralyses you in taking action. In January I found the documentary, read the book and in February I started 5:2 and I’m still here, lost 18 kg (don’t want to lose more) and never want to borrow larger pants ever. I’m still just a beginner, everything you wrote is so true, you’re way ahead of me in reflecting on things that go wrong. Thank you all for your help to everyone struggling, we all do on our way to weight loss.
Day7 UK NFD
Glorious sunny day today in Chester . About to take dogs for a long walk before attempting to put a single bed together with my OH. Expecting either a new bed or divorce by tea time! Yesterday came in just under TDEE, mainly thanks to not drinking las night (designated driver) and my friend doing an indoor barbecue (an electric thingy that sits on the table and you cook your own) with masses of salad. I ignored the bread and cheese, ate my jacket potato without butter and generally felt virtuous. This morning it was bacon sandwich followed later by coffee and cake doh!! Still Sunday lunch to go. My OH is very supportive but does like his roasties on a Sunday. So I’m going for the oven baked/ use a bit of fry light versions and hope he doesn’t notice๐.
Happy Sunday to all my fellow 5:2 ers
Day 7 – Cumbria UK – NFD
What glorious weather we have had this weekend ๐ after a good liquid only FD on Friday, both Saturday and Sunday controlled to TDEE so a good weekend all round ๐
Planning 3 FD next week as going down south to see old friend from Sunday next week – preparing for what may be some over indulgence…….
@sirisan – sounds like you are slowly on the mend – I’ll be joining you on a FD on Monday, hopefully mine will be a low calorie liquid FD.
@jarbia – how is Cornwall? Beautiful part of the UK – have a fab time and stay mindful ๐
@lilymartin – ๐ for yesterday’s well controlled 470 calories! an inspiring post for those who are struggling – as you said the friendship and sharing provided on this forum are something to really cherish.
@fatrabbit – ๐ง ๐ you are not the only one – I never keep cheese in the house anymore – OH does not eat cheese so if it’s not in the fridge no temptation for me……LOL
@tlc2 – as you have discovered this WOL means you don’t have to blow the entire weekend after having an indulgent Friday night! Good Job
@bigviking – WOW 23lbs/10.6kg gone in 7 weeks ๐
@debster251 – have a lovely visit with your sister and family = precious times
@yolina – sounds like you are doing well – on your 4th FD since the 1st May ๐
@allie123 – completed your first B3B – a definite happy dance ๐
@ciren2 – ๐ค
@saffy420 – hope you end up with a new bed……….
Hope everyone is having a good weekend and some lovely weather too – lots of โ๏ธin Cumbria but there is a bit of a cool breeze on the fells. Whether you are doing FD or a NFD stay mindful and positive.

Day 7 Portugal FD
I have been very indecisive about whether today is a FD or NFD. I have eaten most of the 500cal for lunch on a green salad with a small piece of chicken. The big question is whether to eat something at dinner time. I am tempted but I think I’ll stick to ADF and I will get to eat tomorrow!
Enjoy the rest of the eeekend. Seems like lots of people are having sunshine. It’s sunny here today too and I’m just in from a 4 k walk with my oldest daughter. Her A Levels (exams needed for entrance to university) start on Wed and run for about a month (5 exams – one exam per week)!
Day 7 – SW WA USA – NFD
Definitely appreciating the sunshine this weekend along with many of you, even all the way to Portugal. Love it! Now we just need some sunshine for Maine.
In the interest of accountability, I’ve been enjoying Ferrero Rochers & a boiled egg so far this morning. A little too many but they’re gone now; yep, in my tummy. Definitely joining the fasters for tomorrow ๐

Day 7 US NFD/CD
I’m hoping today is one of those days that we all have something to be happy about.โจI know the weekend is a happy time for me.โจ๐
@ciren2 if you get a chance to read posts and all who would benefit. I’ve been reading Mimi Spencer’s, “The Fast Beach Diet.” There is a lot of beneficial information and ideas. @ciren2 I thought of you. She mentioned; know your triggers, recognize it before it happens. If your always ravenous before you get home from work, make sure there is an apple or 2 stashed in your bag to eat on the way home. So you won’t demolish cookies or overeat when you get home. I’ve also found taking probiotics 1 hour before I would regularly eat helps stop hunger and the need to over eat.
She has many practical ideas I’m finding her book very informative, delightful and practical.โจ
@lola907 I can relate.๐๐ Chips and salsa have been convenient along with beautiful a favorite of mine also. As a matter of fact I chose a taco and chips and salsa for my NFD meal choice for this weekend.๐It’s kind of a small gift to myself. The plan is now to not feel neglected and to instead eat more vegetables (which are better for us any way) this week. Besides salsa IS filled with vegetables. If your gonna splurge that would be the way to go.๐๐
@pippapah ginger tea with Stevia has been helping to stop nausea. I also take probiotics when I’m nauseous and it helps. I hope you feel better soon.
@at As always you know exactly what we need to hear (read) and how we need to hear (read) it. โจThank-You!๐โจ
โจLife is not about waiting for the storm to pass, It’s about learning to DANCE in the RAIN.” โ๏ธ
@lumat Yum๐
@sirisan Don’t get down. Keep your hopes up. I think the weight loss slowing down for some of us, including myself. Could because of allergies and congestion at this time of year. The weight (fat) still maybe coming off and it could show in the next few weeks. You are doing so well. โจKeep on, Keeping on!โจ
@back2thefuture โจI’m impressed way to go! Congratsโจon your 2lb weight loss and your ability to keep your NFD healthy and controlled. ๐
@missymoomoo โจGood wishes for you today! โจYou got this!โจ
@jarbia it seems the less weight we have to lose the harder it becomes. Our bodies adapt and become more efficient. Your weight loss will happen. I think the walking will help. It just may take a little longer and a bit more walking. โจEvery step you take in the right direction is getting you closer to your goal.โจ
@fatrabbit The more I read the more I understand. That all the veggies you’ve been eating are the reason you’ve been able to do so well losing weight. โจRemember your successes!โจYou can have another great week!โจ
@bigviking Awesome!โจโจ๐
@chumi I’m sorry for your loss of a wonderful beloved dear person to you. I’m hoping your week coming up will be less distressing. I can’t assume you have been distressed; I know I would be. The fact that you are still keeping up with the idea of NFD’s I think is commendable. NFD’s have always been more difficult for me also. It’s so much more work deciphering food situations and choosing the correct proportions. Also as you are closer to you goal, a little blip extra of food or inflammation from sugar can seem like a bigger issue. If you stay the course that you have done well in the past. Forgive any decisions you regret. Start a new each day. You will feel better about your day to day choices. โจYour choices to keep on going will lead you to success. If FD’s are easier than maybe add another FD. If your maintaining less than 3 lbs : 1.3 kg there is still going to be some fluctuation in weight. You have the option to add or not another FD or NFD. Maybe Choosing to be easier on yourself you can feel better about yourself and your choices and make this WOL way of life more enjoyable. You have reached the weight I’m working towards.โจBe glad and be kind to yourself.๐โจ
โจ๐ถWow @lilymartin Thank-you! I can relate and love your song! Now it is in my head๐โจ๐
@steve-toon-taxi-driver โจCongratulations! Fantastic! Keep on, Keeping on!โจI’m impressed with your fortitude!โจ

I admire you and hope your FD’s go well today!โจ
Whew!! We have a great group! Lots of posts I still have another page to read , which I am looking forward to reading later this evening.โจโจ
โจThank-you to all our group members your posts are keeping me sane!โจ
@fordprefect and I are taking our twins to the movies to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2โจ๐ So far straight A’s in their classes.โจ๐
Hi @lumat – Pocketeers has come to refer to a group of people on the forum who are fasting that day โ the idea is to realise that you have support if you feel yourself sliding away from your intention to have a FD โ initially it was used for a small group who might be doing a special fast e.g. Water only FD or B2B or more FDs in a row. Anyone can start the list if they are fasting on any given day – Hope that explains it x
Day 7, USA, Missouri Ozark, NFD
Hello all, today’s weight 142.8, below goal weight of 145.
Want to say hi! to steffieagle and thank you for your comments, I do try to be as happy and optimistic as I can be because I KNOW without a doubt that so many in the world are praying for the life I am blessed to be living. I am very grateful but certain that I am not grateful enough. It appears that your lifestyle and health outlook is the same as mine. I wish you well on your journey.
I have found maintenance to be so much easier than I had thought but then after giving it some thought – it takes 3500 excess calories to add (true weight, not temporary fluctuation) a pound of weight and that is a LOT of excess calories if one just tries to eat somewhat sanely and exercise.
I do think exercise is the key, it lets your body know that you are serious, haha ! Thanks again for saying hi.
And Song Bird Me, Hi to you as well. And yes, it was fun in the diner. I had never been in there but one of the ladies in our group had been going there since the 50s… It had recently been remodeled and it was very clean and bright, had framed photos on the wall of old area barns, tractors, etc. and the tables were laminated old ads and business cards from area locations. Lots of fun, it will probably become at least a monthly stop for us. Next time we are going for breakfast, a good ole down home farmer’s breakfast ! Hope you are enjoying this glorious weather.
My best to each of you. We missed church today as my husband wasn’t feeling well. He had an above the knee amputation in 2013, doing well except he has a lot of phantom pain during the rainy weather (which Lord knows we have been experiencing.) I used my unexpected Sunday morning to check on all of my recent planting and to kill some grass in the walkway with my natural solution of vinegar, Epsom salts, Dawn liquid and hot water.
The hummingbirds are c r a z y happy this Spring and are being joined at the feeder by a giant woodpecker and several orange and black orioles. All seem to be co-existing well. A lesson for us all, I suppose.
Wising all a blessed day.

Day 7 | Alaska | NFD
This board is fast moving and truly hard to keep up with and connect with individuals. That said I love reading everyone’s updates and encouragements.
Last week was my first week of the 5:2 plan and I fasted Mon & Thurs, spreading my 500 calories throughout the day. I did fairly well but then Friday I lost control with Cinco de Mayo so decided to do a 36 hour water fast Friday night starting at 8pm.
I’ve never gone 36 hours without eating a single bite of food. It was challenging but surprisingly doable although I wouldn’t want to do it all the time. It gave me dignity in knowing I was in control and taught me that I can do anything I set my mind to.
Hunger is weird. It comes in waves and you just have to ride the wave – drink water or tea and tell yourself you can do it, or distract yourself best you can. My family had dinner at 6 pm and the house spelled yummy, so I went and did an hour of yoga to distract myself, which totally worked.
I don’t think I will do it often but maybe once a month just to take control and know I can do it. I’m also thinking that I’m going to structure my 5:2 with just one meal a day at dinner rather than spreading the calories out.
Good luck to everyone on your endeavors today.

@scs Your comment about cranky guests made me laugh. Like you should charge less for bad weather! Do you have bnb? Would love to check it out. Maybe reward myself with a holiday when I reach my goal. Only if you guarantee good weather though. ๐
@okeydokey. Thanks for the pep talk. I’m not giving up. I can tell I’m making progress. Looking forward to getting back to exercising. Did manage to do about 15 minutes of yoga yesterday and today as well as a little walk.
Good luck to all fasting and non. Will be joining the fasters in the pocket groups Monday and Tuesday.

Hello all day 7 UK co down nfd
Back from Galway – lovely weekend away and did not over indulge. Weather was mixed, dull And cold on Saturday but glorious today. Walked along prom in Salthill and watched lots of hardy souls go for a swim. Fast days tomorrow and Tuesday. Not caught up on page 13 or 14 but hope to do that tomorrow.
Day 7 – UK – NFD
@sirisan – so pleased to hear you’re feeling a bit better today.
@paulmarsh – interesting comment re nausea and low salt levels. Perhaps something I need to pay more attention to especially as I want to continue to train on FDs.
Day 8/NFD/Melbourne Australia
I’m back earlier than expected due to OH developing severe insomnia and wanting to return home. We did, however, manage to enjoy long walks along pristine ocean beaches and through beautiful rainforests. The bird life was amazing and we were thrilled to observe a rare lyre bird.
Jumped on my 2nd set of scales in my pjs this morning to observe the damage of too much wine, craft beer, carbohydrates and cheese. They only measure in 500 gm increments and I use them as an indicator in between official weekly weigh ins. Still below goal weight but above happy weight. A swoosh, zero wine and fewer carbohydrates and NO cheese over the next few days should help but I’m not quite ready to fast. Shall spend today mentally and physically preparing. I really like feeling in control and cosy before fasting. I Konmaried my entire house at the same time I started 5:2. Both plans really helped in clearing my mind and preparing for retirement.
Happy to say there was less mice activity while we were away. Hopefully we’ve won the battle. Still there are areas to clean, heating ducts to unplug and furniture to return and shopping and food preparation to be done. Planning to make both a chicken stock and lamb stock. Great for creating warming soups for fast days. A bunch of flowers, scented candles and cosy blankets should help too.
Hopefully I’ll find time to catch up on the two courses I’m doing. All on nutrition so they should help me with my mindset. I spent time updating my food app for accountability. All guesstimates and not a pretty sight and way over my ‘TDEE’.
I’m curious. What calculator are you using to determine TDEE? My TDEE varies from 12000 calories to 1843 calories depending on the calculator and the choices given. I’m currently using the Mayo clinic calculator but I rather like this one
8700.com.au (NSW government, Australia).
Looking forward to catching up on posts – need the inspiration and support.
2nd post TDEE calculator http://www.8700.com.au/kj-explained/your-ideal-figure/
Day 8 FD Country West Australia 71.9 kgs
@snowflake, yes sometimes it is actually easier to fast because once one starts to eat the insulin kicks into gear and it can be difficult to stop. Fasting can keep the hunger dragon at bay.
BTW I tried to copy and paste to add my name to the list of pocketeers but my computer didn’t like it. Please add me. Thinking about others fasting certainly helps keep me on track.
@lola907 , hunger certainly does come in waves. When I get hungry I drink 1 or 2 large glasses of water or drink tea. If I still feel hungry I sometimes ask myself if I would eat. ?? tripe or ?? lettuce or something not normally appetising for me . If the answer is no then I think it might just be a whim. But if I think yes, I could eat a large bowl of tripe with white pudding then I try to eat something mindfully low calorie.
Obviously this doesn’t always work ! Looking at the progress some on this forum have made I think in terms , not of ‘inching’ along but ‘millimetering’ along. Probably no such word but my progress is quite slow. However everyone’s journey is different.
My daily tracker resembles the Swiss Alps. Pretty to look at but no long smooth slope down.
I weigh daily and after a good FD Saturday and good TDEE yesterday the scales rewarded me by being UP 300 gms. That’s gratitude …. not!
@steve toon. Beery well done ! I salute your fortitude.
@ciren2. Think about you often. Hope the fast day happens soon. I found that for a couple of months, I would fast but my heart just wasn’t really in it. I do know our psychological frame of mind affects things.
@at, I think you do a great job with your motivational support and replies, much appreciated.
@bert 102, does anyone know what has happened to Bert? I have read all the posts but sometimes can’t quite remember who is doing what re holidays, being away from computers etc.
Have been much more mindful this month by daily posting and reading others’ posts. keeps me motivated and on track. Helps stop the mental tanties!!
@pissupoosa. Life happens. We do what we can on a daily basis. You are doing a fabulous job herding us cats. Not an easy job.
@onahealthyhigh. Curious about the nutrition courses you are doing and would love to know. I too am really interested in nutrition. I possibly would have done it for a career in another life. I think we really ARE what we eat.
Keep the faith people. I think it’s going to be a stellar month. MAY you all go well today.๐
@lilymartin – you are funny! I don’t know what white pudding is but the day I think tripe is edible, I know it’s time to break my Fast. I’m also a slow loser. The 36 hour water only Fast only release 2.6 pounds which is not that impressive after a binge, I lost 3.2 on my first 5:2 Fast day, however a did feel a strong feeling of accomplishment. Not looking forward to the fast tomorrow, but am looking forward to fitting in my clothes. I’ve done well today with being controlled but curious what my bounce back will be. I only have 12 pounds to lose and really hope this is a successful method to lose it. I don’t want to go back on HCG.

@annemarilyn what is a pocketeer?
Hi
@onahealthyhigh, thank you for the calculator link. The TDEE on that site allows me nearly 200cals (and my dh 230cals) more than the one I am using on this Fast5:2 site. Must be something in the NSW air that burns kJ faster๐ Seriously, with all the conflicting information available, it does mean that each of us has to find a 5:2 WOL of life that works for us. Thank you for taking the time to share the info you find.
Day 7 NFD/ Day 8 Brunei FD
Thank you for adding me to the pocketeers, although I’m still not sure what that means, except that we are the ones fasting that day. Is there another thread just for fasting support? ๐
It’s going to be hard to keep this as a true fast day because and I had some nuts and seeds in a kind of homemade brittle, so sugar, at breakfast time because I felt weak and incredibly tired and didn’t think I could survive the Monday traffic and school run and morning of work on empty. I’ve also had some coconut water and some veggie and fruit sticks. I will aim for 800-1000 cals instead, still have Wednesday FD and have Thursday 800-1000 as well and hopefully that will make up for it.
My goal for this week is to see 58.something on the scales and have successful non fast days where I avoid sugar and snacks in general.
This thread is so active which is great and I love reading everyone’s posts and wish I had more time to reply to specific things but this month is turning into an incredibly busy month at work.
Have a great Monday everyone! ๐
Still Day 7
@lola907 – A pocketeer is a phrase that came to be a few challenges back. Someone suggested creating a list of people doing a similar fast; sometimes B2B (back to back). People might carry the list of people in their pocket for extra support. Now, people create a list of folks fasting on the same day. Anyone can start the list & people add their name if they are also fasting. Sometimes someone reads through the posts, and sees who has mentioned they are fasting and begins a list that can be added to. Hope that helps.
@perthgirl – I use the TDEE calculations provided by Dr. Mosley at the top of the forums. He’s the originator of the 5:2 so I’m staying with that. Keeps it simpler for me.
