  • ccco USA Day 7 NFD

Well, my FD turned into a NFD!! My fat cells weren’t just weeping, they were screaming and I caved in! I don’t know why that occasionally happens. I am fine everyday and suddenly I have this overwhelming need to catch up with eating. I even get physically agitated. If it weren’t for the snow, power walking might have helped to calm my nerves. Anyway, food has calmed me and I feel tomorrow I will be back on track and I will do another FD. Good night and stay strong everyone!
P.S. Being snow bound forced me to shop for clothes online again!! LOL I better get my weight where I want it or I will be in trouble!! Boredom should never be reason for going off the rails for anything, including shopping!! 🙂

    Day 8 – Ireland 🇮🇪 -CD

Quick update as hubby is taking my car to Northern Ireland for new tyres so is dropping me into work an hour earlier.

3 good FD’s with total loss of 4 lbs from Monday morning weigh in – of which dispatched after Monday’s LFD and a half pound each the following two days. So today I will keep it under 1000 calories and maybe start the weekend slightly off the plateau of 134 – 139 land 😄

Thanks @michelinme and @diverdog for your experience on eliminating inflammatories. I have started to read Moseleys Healthy Guts book and I believe there is a plan on how to do it. Going to work out what way to do this. I do keep a daily food diary for years now but have started to capture how I feel with pain, feelings, fatigue, anxiety etc.

@at yes, I will certainly follow those links on Kefir. Thank you. I know @ Debster251 and somebody else gave information a few weeks ago too. Lots of research to do 🤗

@ccco My goodness, that’s terrible about the side effects you and your family have suffered from medications. I really do try to avoid meds as much as possible preferring the natural remedies.

    Have a good Thursday all.

    Day 8, Finland, FD

Had a successful FD on Monday, and managed to have 2 pretty good NFD, despite having a late birthday celebration with a friend. We controlled the cake by walking 25000 steps!
I have joined up to do a 10km run at the end of May, just need to get out the runners and face the snow lined streets!

@daffodil2010 I am a big believer in disease processes being related to nutrition. As a nurse I see lots of people come into hospital for things which could be improved or removed with good nutrition. It is the exact reason I have chosen this WOL, disease prevention, plus the added benefit of weight loss.
I am a regularly change my hair styles, and you can generally tell how i am feeling, or how my life is going by the style of my hair. I love short hair, even though it makes me look more like my mum ;-). When i lose weight, am feeling great about myself, have enough money, my hair is short! Long hair i also like, love being able to pop it up into a piggy for work, but tends to be when i can’t afford regular haircuts or am feeling blah! I have mid length hair now….am planning on short cut for Christmas when weight is less, and my mum is coming for a visit.

    I am not a ‘F…….’ I am me and if I think I can – I will.

    Day 8, Surrey (UK), FD
    Day 7 – NFD
    Day 6 – NFD

Decided to stick with regular 5:2 pattern this week – so Day 6 ended up being a NFD, even though I started the day with a fasted exercise routine. Reason being, I’m struggling with ‘regularity’ because my guts are very lazy, even when they are being bullied by psyllium husk. I decided they needed a workout with a roughage-laden chick pea chili. All is good now, thankfully!

Day 8, London, UK, FD (3rd of B2B2B)

I had a fantastic exercise class last night, in a ‘fasted state’ and loved every fat burning minute of it!!!! I really need to take the measurements I’ve been promising to take!!! The scales aren’t being friendly, but apparently my trousers are starting to look more like clown pants again, I’ve spent too much time being seduced by the scale when, by all accounts, I’m shrinking away!!!!

@toddybear, I had a chuckle at your post, I’ve often walked rather than driven to the shops, felt soooo righteous ………………………….. then had a cream cake and a mocha in celebration!!! That halo is a real slippery sucker!!!!!

@mjrbcd44, I’m holding your hand, so it’s impossible for you to hurl yourself off this particular wagon, it’s just a bump in the road, the smooth paved bit is just up ahead!!!!! Don’t pile on the pressure, you’ll be successful if you manage 2 FDs per week & don’t stress about NFDs. I’ve learnt not to mess about with NFDs to make up for indulgences, but to add an extra FD …………………….. ‘cause THOSE, I can do with my eyes closed, but who wants to feel deprived on a NFD!!!????? Don’t get yourself into a vicious cycle, chin up my friend, that reset button is there for a reason!!!!

To those struggling out there, stay strong, you know this works, you know this is actually pretty easy, the hard bit is ALL in your mind, SELF-SABOTAGE is real……………… I know, because I did it for most of my adult life, these little pit stops off of the wagon are NOTHING compared to before 5:2!!!!! There’s no need to beat yourself up because a planned FD went t*ts-up, reset, Reset, RESET!!!

    Onwards & Downwards people!!!!

Day 8 Newcastle UK FD 🇬🇧
I’m having a canny week so far got to keep it going.

    Day 8, UK, FD
79.2kg. Threw myself off the “no wine” wagon whilst watching the football last night. Today better be good!

    Day 8 – UK – Reading – FD

Yesterday was supposed to be a FD but I got a cold so it ended up being an Eat All the Cake You Can Day. It turns out I can eat quite a lot of cake. Not good. So today will be my second FD instead.

If I could manage it – I’d give myself a good kick up the backside with my moon boot.

Day 8 Stevensville Maryland USA FD

Really looking forward to stepping on the scale tomorrow. Over indulged in alcohol last night, hoping it didn’t mess up my B2B days the first part of the week. Today I will need to print this pocket list and tuck it in my bra close to my heart.

I might not be there yet, but I am closer than I was yesterday.

Have a great day/night and thank you for sharing your journey, it really is wonderful knowing I am not alone on this WOL change.

    Day 8…..Florida……NFD

So, I blew my FD yesterday, I did think I was going to but I did. On Monday mornings before work, I hit up the local market and get my lunches for the week. Fruit, yogurt and salads. I know what days, I’m having what. So on Tues and Thurs., my plans were for a nice salad with roasted chicken. Yogurt and plums on Mon and Wed. I was suppose to have Friday off.
However, my day off changed, today, I’m heading into the city to take my YS to the dentist. Since, Icant eat meat on Fri., I decide to have a salad yesterday. But, one of my co workers went to a little hole in the wall and asked me if I wanted an chicken stuffed pastry…… oh yes……they are OMG good! So FD out the window!

Today, no go on the FD…… since were going into the city…… Lunch will be out and I’m making homemade general Tso chicken for dinnner. Of course I’m going to say my from scratch is better than take out but it is patten with tons of fat and unhealthiness!

But the exciting part is, we doing our major shop this week at Trader Joe’s, I’m soooo excited. The closet one to us is about an hour away so we only go when we’re in the city. My list is definitely long….. since this trip only happens once a year…..I tend to stock up on some of my favorites. Sweet potatoes gnocchi here…..I come! Sour dough bread, wonderful everything seasoning…….
we would definitely eat healthier if we lived closer to this store. I love that they offer healthier options of our favorite foods.

Sorry guys, I really didn’t mean for my post to be all about food…….

@ccco…….why is that work is always surrounded by the sweets and good stuff. it always seems, my work kitchen is always stuffed with donuts, pastries and cakes. Sometimes the biggest temptations are at work!

Okay well…..I must get ready to start this day! We got a long day ahead of us!

When someone yells stop, I don’t know if it’s in the name of Love, it’s hammer time or I should collaborate and listen!

    Day 7, Leeds, UK, NFD
    Day 8, Leeds, UK, NFD

Slow month so far, weight not up or down, need to get back to some rhythm for the next three weeks. Snow weather not helping. Good luck everyone.
Looking forward to the FD tomorrow!!

Day 8 USA (Illinois) NFD (CD)

Must get rid of these couple pounds I seem to be holding onto over my maintenance of 160# — even though I keep right at or under TDEE on my NFD’s. That is disconcerting.

    I’m approaching my anniversary of beginning 5:2 on March 15, 2016, so I can’t say I don’t know what I am doing, can I?!

    Day 8, FD, US

Mishty: you say the scales aren’t moving, but I wonder if you’ve taken measurements of yourself? You might find you’ve actually lost inches even if the weight hasn’t changed. Otherwise, welcome to the slow tortoise plateau club!

Day 8, Hampshire – UK, NFD

Well after the worst FD ever yesterday (fasting with a migraine is no picnic – literally and metaphorically!) I was rewarded today by an amazing 4 lbs weight loss since last Friday!

    I can’t quite believe it!

I have now reached my target weight, which is miraculous!

I was going to do a FD tomorrow, but now I’m not sure whether I will or not as I feel I should celebrate!

The problem is that I really struggled to believe the scales this morning as I don’t feel that slim. Very weird.

I definitely felt much slimmer in January, but of course didn’t bother to weigh myself in January as I wasn’t concerned about my increasing waistline at that point.

So I am now worried that this was some kind of weird fluke and the scales will be back up again next time I weigh-in.

So I am going to make a new target of losing a further 2 LBS by 22nd March, which is when I am going on holiday and will doubtless gain a few pounds before we’ve even got to the airport, haha!

@diverdog (and others) – thanks so much for the signposting of MM’s book “Clever Guts” and Dr Longo’s “Longevity Diet.” I read both of them yesterday whilst off work with migraine. Loved both books and going to read again now my brain and eyes are functioning normally!

    @songbirdme – Happy Anniversary of the 5:2 & congrats!!

I just realised I’ve been doing the 5:2 since 2013, which is nearly five years!

And I am over a stone lighter than when I started (and apparently I’ve reached my revised/new target weight today) so the 5:2 WOL definitely works!

    Just call me a 5:2 fan !!

    Day 8 FD Oregon USA

@flourbaby-thank you for your kind words. Been a really weird couple of weeks.

Am including this link for others as I struggle with depression especially in the winter months. This time it has been less about weather and more about fears of failure (in diet, in business and other).

This article showed up in social media for me today and just thought others might find it useful. I know reading it reminded me of some things I need to do today to take care of my mental health.❤️

Supposed to be a FD but going to focus on my mind today and if I can I will fast and if I can’t I will forgive myself.

@mjrbcd44: Thank you for the link to mental health tips. I, too, struggle with depression especially in winter.

    Have a good Thursday everyone!⚘⚘⚘

    Day 8, Amsterdam, FD

I’m just back from meetings in Utrecht – so far no food today, just lots of black coffee and tea! I’m surviving. Quite excited about what I can indulge in tonight though, thinking that lots of nice steamed vegetables plus a fillet of fish might be in order. I have to say I ate pretty badly on Monday (last FD) with a mandarin and some Pringles (still under 475) because I went to the cinema and they didn’t have popcorn (and it was too late to get a salad)! Oh dear. My poor planning and my unhealthy desire for popcorn was to blame.

Anyway. I have friends visiting this weekend and will be drinking some wine and beer I’m sure. Will try to avoid too much carb loading as that’s always where I see the pounds come on! Hoping for a lighter feeling come next week but that’s tough to sustain on the weekend!

Today is a FD. I was able to do the 5:2 in February.

THANK YOU forum folks. I lost two pounds last month (my first monthly challenge) – which is a big deal for someone who doesn’t have that much to loose. Much more importantly, I have way more control over my eating and am much less interested in sweets/the white stuff on non fast days.

Best of luck to everyone. Small steps really do matter.

Day 8 North Canton OH FD

I was about 650 calories on my FD yesterday, which is not terrible but could be better. I am aiming for 600 today as well. This is my 4th FD in a row and I had to have breakfast as I am getting some training today.

Scales were right on target at the lowest end of my maintenance, but my recent indulgences in refined carbs and alcohol has led to some pudge around my middle. So I plan to abstain for at least a week to give my body time to spring back (no pun intended)

    @fivetwofan5252 Congratulations!!!! WooHoo 🙂

    Day 8, Gozo Malta, nfd

Happy women’s day to all you beautiful women.

Yesterday ended at over 1,000 calories but below tdee. Today aiming for a controlled day.

Have a great Thursday everyone. Stay strong.

    Day 8 UK NFD

Aiming for a good controlled day today, so far no snacking has taken place! Tomorrow will be much the same. I might try the scales tomorrow to see where I’m restarting from. I might be on one leg with eyes closed but I’m taking heart from some lovely comments from work colleagues.

    Onwards everyone, keep going.

Day 8, Las Vegas NV, WFD

Today is the 5th and final day of my 5 day water fast. No ill effects so far. I feel very good today, no hunger or headache and last night was my best sleep so far. I had a dance lesson and did 30 easy minutes on the bike last night and it was easy. Blood ketones & glucose are about the same as yesterday so no ill effects from my broccoli sprout “meal” ( about 65 calories) yesterday. I’ve had my anti-cancer sprouts again this morning so technically I’m not water fasting. I’ve lost 10 lbs so far and am at my lowest ever adult scale weight of 155 lbs at 5’9″

I had to force down the small bowl of sprouts, so I think I’m not going to be able to eat much as I refeed.

I’ll break my fast about 9:00 AM tomorrow

    Day 8, Emden Germany, NFD

Day 8 – SW WA USA – FD

Working on making this a true 500 cal. FD. Earlier this week I’ve been a bit overindulgent especially with the sugar free Russell Stovers.

A busy day starting with an aerobic class at 0900hrs following cooking in our”FareShares Kitchen” and feeding around 45 people between 1230hrs and 1330hrs and then cleaning and tidying up! Great team I worked with today.

Another good controlled day staying alcohol free @pocket Winos but I really, really, really wanted a crisp glass of white wine with dinner tonight – somehow I managed to resist………and came in as good CD 😇

@mishty – personally I found cutting way down on carbs was very productive in losing the weight and keeping it off since – try increasing your protein and vegetables and also don’t always eat way below your TDEE on your NFD. Is your TDEE worked out for your target weight? If not you might consider that and ensure that you mark your exercise level as lightly active as we all tend to overestimate how much exercise we do!! e.g. I do 2 x 90min Yoga. 1 x 60min Pilates, 1 x 60min aerobic classes and I hike around 4-5miles least twice a week but I mark my exercise level as lightly active (I’m 5’4″ and my TDEE is just under 1500cals)
    @daffodil2010 – Great job 👍

    Day 9 Gold Coast CD

A great FD yesterday, and although I can’t do a LFD any more due to medication, I did stay under 250 cals! Scales down another .6 kg. OH was home, so we kept each other strong all day, and although he really struggles, my head is in such a good place that I was able to stick with it without struggling too much. I find it really helps if I’m drinking lots of water. I also had hot drinks which seem to sooth my stomach when it gets a bit clenchy. I feel highly motivated at the moment, so running with it while I can.

@debster251 – I guess that’s the challenge of being in part of the world that sees the sun first each day 🙂

Wishing everyone the best for this Friday

    ccco USA Day 8 NFD

2nd Post: Had a perfect NFD staying just below my TDEE. Since I am basing my TDEE on my goal weight and not my current weight, I am pretty certain staying within that realm is a good place to be to lose weight on NFD. I count calories on all NFDs, as well as on FDs. I don’t want to rely on my ability to guesstimate! Tomorrow will be another FD. I’ve already written out my Friday plan! Good night everyone! Stay strong! 🙂

    Day 9 Auckland NFD
I was prowling around the fridge like a hungry lion on my FD y’day planning an evening steak and veg meal. Have managed to keep it together over the last couple of days despite my ID telling me otherwise. I was waiting for the Woosh effect @strawberriesandcream put me onto. https://www/100down.org/the-woosh-effect/. It’s my new favourite phrase! And I had one – dropped by 1.3kg this morning!
@bert1802 I love Trader Joe’s. I lived in Oakland in the 80s and used to go to the original one in Berkeley. Great memories.
@fivetwofan5252 Congrats on getting to maintenance. Remember to reward yourself with something non edible!!!
    Stay strong everyone!
PS Macintosh the Westie is down to 10kg. That’s a 100gm loss! He’s got to get to 9.6kg…

    Day 9 London UK FD
    Just checking in.
Have a good day all. Hello pocket winos. Still dry so far since Christmas Day. Need to cut carbs a lot to get back on track. I seem to have developed a serious bread habit. Whoops.

Day 8 Sarasota, Florida CD Struggling a bit to have at least CD’s with company here. Sunday is my best bet for a FD. Making sure I’m recording everything.

I know I should probably have started at the beginning of the month, but today is day 1 for me. Trying a FD of 500cal. Not sure if that will be the right amount though as I usually eat a maximum of 1200 but I was still putting on weight. Should I go lower to do the 1/4 or just start at 500 and see how it goes? I am concerned that I won’t be able to function or think well enough to study or write papers. So hoping that it moves the weight as there are no other answers besides eating less and less as I get older. Already fitted in an hour workout this morning too. I think it might catch up with me tonight with feeling hungry! Will be trialling which days to have as my FD over the next few weeks. Looking forward to hearing about how you are all going : )

    Day 9 AUS FD
Starting weight: 75kg. Goal weight: 60kg
    Beginning date: 09/03/2018

Haven’t taken measurements yet – have to find measuring tape as my old one went missing!

Yes – I just read the first post of the thread and realised I had it all wrong!

Jemina, at 75 KG it sounds like you are already kind of low on your NFD calories. Look up your TDEE and eat that amount on NFD’s. Eat one quarter of that on FD’s. Although many here are of the opinion that it doesn’t matter what you eat I’ve found that avoiding processed foods and cutting out sugars and refined carbs has made a huge difference for me. As for being able to function on fast days it’s a matter of reminding your body how to burn its own fat. If you are used to eating a lot of carbs and snacking it’s much harder to make the switch but it’s certainly doable. I’m on the last day of a 5 day water fast (zero calories) I’m not hungry and I feel great. I won’t be able to eat a lot tomorrow when I break my fast but I’m sure everything that passes my lips will taste like heaven!

I believe there is a good FAQ thread here to new users.

Good luck you can do this!

    Day 9 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Good morning on a gloriously frosty, minus 3c, but sunny Co Meath. On my morning walk at 6am it was quite bright, sun starting to peek over the horizon, blackbirds singing beautifully, crows in pairs cawing at me, cows lowing in local sheds…glorious. And it’s Friday too 🤗

In great form today. Yesterday was a good CD, around 1000 calories, and another half pound loss today. That’s 4.5 in total this week. Still on the edge of plateau land but just one more pounds will get me off. Hopefully the end is nigh 🤔

This weekend WILL be different. After my burning guts sickness earlier this week and the masses of research on food I have started, I have a renewed optimism and vigour. Had a good talk with DH last night and he is fully on board. His rosaceae has started to flare up, he was taking too much cow dairy and wheat products even though he knows they are toxic for him.

I went around the cupboards and dumped processed foods that were lurking there. Pizza bases 👍 Artificial sweetener 👍 White bread 👍 And a ceremonial dumping of the last bags of cheese and onion potato crisps 😄😄

We are going clean again from now on. He was my partner in weight loss when we did Dukan together, both losing 50lbs. He has put back on about 2 stone so I explained (again) the benefits of 5:2 and he will try FD’s now on his work days.

But tonight we go out to dinner for our wedding anniversary. There will be wine for sure, and we will have a lovely meal, but I won’t go for the crazy stuff either. I don’t want to back to square one again on Monday. Wish me luck, but I feel this weekend I CAN and WILL do it ☺️

@Jemimapuddleduck Welcome to this wonderful forum. Wise words from @diverdog, and like him I am trying to cut out the processed foods. This way does work.

@merryapple Love your description of prowling around the fridge like a hungry lion, very funny 😆 Well done on your choices.

    Have a great Friday

    Day 9 – Amsterdam, NFD

Woke up this morning to 2.6lbs down on the scales, hurrah! That’s 5.3lbs in total since I began 5:2, and 2.4 lbs down from the start of the month. Slowly does it I guess!

However I am realising that it does work. So feeling very inspired this morning and will try and be good today and this weekend.

Really love reading everyone’s entries. Thank you for keeping my spirits up!
