  • Good afternoon losers 😉

I have finished my Christmas shopping and am a very happy bunny! All I am waiting for is one gift that should be delivered tomorrow. That leaves wrapping, some baking and some cake decorating to do. Yesterday was a FD and I made lots of mince pies and some marzipan, and the smell of the sugar put me off eating rather than making me hungry. I had a similar experience today when I went into a chocolate shop. After about a minute of inhaling chocolate I decided I needed to make a choice and leave as soon as possible. It didn’t stop me from accepting the offer of a free hazelnut praline coated in plain chocolate, a cheeky little snack to enjoy on my way home 😆

Smiffy, it’s all your fault. I bought a bottle of ginger wine Smiley

Good morning fellow losers. Well another weekend gone and dusted! What a weekend, so very, very busy and now it’s back to a working week 😆

FD today for a change, I don’t usually do Mondays but as I’ll be doing OFA (occupational first aid) training tomorrow and Wednesday I thought it best to swap today for tomorrow 😀

Had lots of visitors yesterday and then out to a friends for an hour or so. Set up new coffee machine (it’s wonderful!!) cleaned/tidied the “office” area in my craft room ready for installation of high speed broadband tomorrow as I know it wouldn’t get done tonight as have grandsons’ basketball grand final tonight followed by two different visitors … both very important.

The friend we went to yesterday gave me TWO boxes of liqueur chocolates … one from her (for all the help I give her with her invoicing) and one from her step-son because I wrote a letter to help him get his new wife a visa to come to Australia for 3 months prior to her applying for a spouse visa. We’re hoping that he will get a positive response by the end of this week so she can be here for Christmas. If not he’ll go over there to spend it with her.

I want to get to one of the Italian type continental shops this week so that I can select a variety of different coffee beans as I like to make my own mixes … used to make a really great mix years ago but haven’t been grinding my own beans for a long time now (at least 15 years) so hope I haven’t lost the knack.

    Catch up later everyone 🙂

    Hi AO.

I bought some ground coffee and some beans back from Cuba. I’ve not done anything with the beans yet but I’ve tried the ground coffee and as expected, it is very good. I’m a bit of a coffee freak and drink far too much of it. I was in my element in Cuba with everywhere serving really good coffee.
We won’t talk about the tea……………

LOL Amazon, I too have a fair bit of coffee per day 😀 and enjoy a “real” coffee but suffice with instant at work (unless I make a real coffee there once per day … as it’s free I don’t like to have too many as that to me is pushing the boundaries)

Okay, time to feed babies then get ready for work. Bye for now 😀

Im still on the dandelion coffee kick. I typically like coffee to be so sweet it’s hardly bitter. When I was looking Into alternatives I found the roasted dandelion root tea. If I brew in in my kuerig beverage maker. I takes about 1 minute. Sometimes dunking dark chocolate bakers chocolate in a sieve stirrer. So it blends well without making the bakers chocolate messy. Cant say enough about dandelion, except it’s best when it young, but the roasted root tea is completely different than the leaves in flavor. I tried it on my own early last year to from garden to cup. Im very happy to buy the store bought all year round and sweeten with stevia.

Here’s a link to the health benefits.

    http://altmedicine.about.com/od/Herbal-Remedies/fl/Dandelion-Tea.htm

    Morning all.

SAMM I thought you were more of a Green tea imbiber? I know what you mean about sweeter coffee, it’s the American style isn’t it? Maccas and Gloria Jeans coffee here in Aus is really sweet to me.

Has anyone heard of bulletproof coffee? Supposed to be a really great breakfast. If losing weight you stay in ketosis as it’s made from coffee beans, coconut oil and butter, blended into a creamy, frothy mix. I question is value, as it’s not really a nutrient dense breakfast, plus surely a good way to elevate cholesterol? The guy who spruiks it talks about the toxins and mycoplasma in regular coffee plus it’s unwanted side effects. Not sure how his “upgraded” coffee avoids the effects of caffeine? There are certainly lots of marketing opportunities for savvy types in the food industry!

I love coffee, at least 5 a day, but only grind it freshly about once a day. Being retired doesn’t mean you have unlimited time! Amazon my husband went to Port Moresby for work once and I requested some local coffee. It truly tasted worse than mud, but I found out later that he forgot to get some and bought it at the airport when leaving…it was probably 15 years old! The Cuban coffee sounds great!

Not fasting til tomorrow as a social soirée this arvo, doesn’t feel like a Monday! Aiming to wrap presents this morning…..

    Have a lovely day/evening all. X

    Welcome Bigmarie,
Look forward to hearing your successes too.
Trust me this diet makes you look good and feel good.

Six weeks is early days for you. I found the first three months quite hard, headaches, not sleeping well, vile temper. I put most of this down to withdrawal from sugar, mainly found in processed food and bread. I don’t actually have a sweet tooth. Worrying thought that we become addicted to foods that are not even personal choices. I have since settled into a mostly healthy and happy life. I have a long term hip issue, diagnosed as bursitis which is agravated by my very active lifestyle. But if I am not active I will gain weight so it is a vicious circle, that we all know so well.

Good Luck and don’t forget to post again.

    Love jojo xxx

    Good morning/afternoon/evening fast-tracking mates.

Had a fantatic day yesterday – thanks for good wishes everyone. As planned, went down the street for brunch about 11am and in the afternoon to a lovely end-of-year concert put on by grand-daughter’s dancing school.

When we got up OH started getting breakfast so I asked if his definition of brunch did not exclude breakfast. He was full of apologies and made a cup of tea instead bless him. Brunch for me was Argentine scrambled eggs on a cheese tortilla, a small chorizo sausage with tomato and avocado salsa – yummy! Didn’t look like a big serve but began to struggle after about half the sausage and eggs. Only had one piece of the tortilla and slowly finished the sausage and eggs over about 30′. Apart from tea and water, didn’t have anything else until light salad dinner about 7pm.

Because we were married so close to Christmas (my introduction to the joys of being a geologist’s wife – everything has to fit in with the field season!) we have only ever just gone out for a quiet meal rather than exchange gifts.

Fasting today and tomorrow but just succumbed to temptation of home-grown apricots and peaches on the lunch-room table – 2 of each 🙁 At least not as bad as a biscuit!

Lovely day here with sunshine, light breeze and predicted max of 29C. Just back from delivering a training session with pleasant 10′ walk each way.

    Happy Monday all.

    Your anniversary sounds wonderful Nicky!
Beautiful weather here too, but a bit of drama with a seige in the city, not far from OHs office. I hope it ends quickly and peacefully. P

Please stop teasing me with your recording of high temperatures, it was freezing here today. I had to wear tights and trouser, plus socks under boots, then a long fleece, coat, scarf, hat and additional fur snood. When we got to the restaurant I then had to remove most of this gear in the toilets and managed to lose a sock, arrggghhh.

Listened to a good band this afternoon though, they only play music pre- 1980, excellent guitarist, singer( soul) and double bassist. Pub was a bit warm and crushed but lovely atmosphere.

Making craft gifts all evening, covered in glue.

Popped into a craft fair today and purchased a wide belt for Elvis night on Friday, very retro 1950’s, it will look great with a circle skirt. Could not have considered wearing this last year, hope I am doing the right thing?

Samm – try sweet rhubarb tea – very nice.

Glad everyone is having a sociable time and getting all their Xmas preparations done.

Time for me to hit the sack, I need some beauty sleep otherwise Cinders will not look good for the ball.

    Jojo xx

Goodnight Sleeping Beauty/ Cinderella. You’ll look terrific in a full skirt if you get plenty of sleep! !!! 😉 P

    Hi Purple
We are getting updates on NZ radio every few minutes from Sydney.
I hope the siege situaion resolves itself quickly and without too much suffering.
Australia is part of the world in a way NZ is not yet.
We watched an Australian production called “The Code” which contained themes, far from our limited NZ horizons.
Our only terrorist action ever was carried out by the French!
    thinking of you in Sydney.
    XX TW

    Hi wi
    Lucky Kiwis!
“The Code” was frighteningly realistic. We don’t want to become part of the world in this way. P

    Hi P and Wi

Just read of the Sydney siege on the e-newspaper that arrives at noon here – horrible stuff.

The Code – yes a bit too realistic for peace of mind. I want one of those Lego memory sticks though.

Hope all resolves itself soon and safely. xxN

Yes, Purple, lucky at present, but with a government without scruples here.

    Just getting updates from Sydney.
I am sorry, dear Purple about the scale of your seige situation.
Will continue with my ear glued to the radio.
    Thoughts are with you Sydneysiders.

Hi Fast Trackers another day another adventure B2B today and tomorrow Wednesday feed
and B2B Thurs/Fri that’s my action plan add 10000 steps each day Start where you are.Use what you have.Do what you can.

Rhubarb, used for hundreds of years in Asian medicine, has been eaten in the United States as an ingredient in homemade deserts, after being harvested from backyard gardens. However, this leafy vegetable is receiving attention once again for its potential health benefits. In fact, researches have discovered that rhubarb has multiple characteristics that may make it helpful to you in your efforts to lose weight.

    CHARACTERISTICS

Like most vegetables, rhubarb offers a number of nutritional benefits, while at the same time being a relatively low-calorie food choice. Some of its characteristics may contribute to weight loss. Rhubarb contains a type of antioxidant called polyphenols. Included in rhubarb’s antioxidant profile are catechins, the same chemicals that give green tea many of its healthy properties. Catechins are thought to aid your body in burning fat by speeding up your metabolism, according to University of Maryland Medical Center. Additionally, rhubarb contains a healthy dose of fiber, which contributes to good digestion, absolutely necessary for healthy weight loss.

    BENEFITS

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science, at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, found that rhubarb is effective in lowering bad cholesterol, or LDL. The subjects of the study who experienced the health improvements ate 27 g of ground rhubarb fiber once a day for four weeks. Rhubarb’s polyphenols are also thought to have anti-cancer properties, according to Sheffield Hallam University.

ill be happy to try the rhubarb tea.
    I always grow some.

Heres a small part of what ive read so far.

    Morning/evening all.

Interesting information on rhubarb SAMM, our resident font of knowledge. I love it, but it is difficult to buy out of season. I might try the tea. I’ve had to give up with green tea, I don’t like it and have been unable to acquire a taste for it despite persevering for a few of months.

FD today. I fell foul of toast with nut butter last night so exceeded my TDEE by some way. I’ll have to counteract that tomorrow, by eating less than my BMR or I’ll not be anywhere near my Christmas mini goal.

It is a beautiful sunny day here. I hope my parcel is delivered early so I can go for a walk.

    Have a good day/evening everyone.

    Hi all in Australia,
Just heard the news about the siege in Sydney, missed the mention of it earlier on the thread.
My thoughts are with you, I hope the siege is resolved without bloodshed.
It’s so sad that people can be so destructive and cruel.
    Love Jojo xx

Still unresolved as we head off to bed, 5 escaped. 10 still held hostage. This is a street I walk up every week. Only a couple of blocks from OHs office. He casually went for his fast day lunchtime walk today, then realised it was probably wiser to stay in the office. So glad he’s home. Night. P

Thanks Jojo, I think we are all on the edge tonight waiting for an outcome with the Sydney terrorism. And we thought we were safe down here, not any more unfortunately. I feel so much for the hostages and also their families. As you say it is so sad that people can be so cruel. I think most of us are praying tonight that it is resolved soon.

    Hi all

I’ve been quiet for a bit but here to report my lovely daughter is in labour on the exact date predicted so our new family member should arrive today! I’ll keep you posted

    Lizziepopbottle,
Great news. I wish her a short labour and healthy baby. Congratulations for your future Granny status.
    I think
I will be in my 70’s before my two reproduce. Such is life.
    Love jojo xx

    Hi Lizzie,
What a clever girl, on her due date! Hope all goes very smoothly and we in Aus wake to some happy news (11.30pm currently) from you. X

    Hi Lizzy.
How exciting. I hope all is well, and will keep any eye for your announcement 😛

I’ve been busy this morning sorting out another cupboard. Why do we all keep stuff that we don’t need and will never use/wear/look at again?
The boot of the car is fit to burst with stuff for the recycling centre, and I’ve got a lot more to sort out before I’m done. Goodness only knows what is stowed under the bed. All I know is that if I try to push anything else underneath, something pops out on the other side 😆

    Amazon,
I am in the same boat honey,
    Boring isn’t it
    Love Jojo xx

    SO exciting Lizzy. P x

Hi all not added to conversation much but am keeping up with everyone’s news daily. Life rather hectic at the moment I’m sure you all feel the same. Wanted to share that 3 fab things happened to me today.
    1. I walked into work and someone asked me if I had lost weight

    Ok Supermam-264,
I am guessing 2 is you are a size down and 3 you resisted some chocolate today when you really, really fancied it.( oh no that is me) ha ha. Size 14 in trousers now hooray.

What is more I have bought a pair of size 12 black jeans, now hanging on my bedroom door. I reckon another 20 lbs will get me in them – 10 weeks – oh yes.

Great news about the siege being over. Very sad for the hostage that died and those injured in the police attack. What a world we live in?

Why are violent criminals out on bail? Seriously?

    Keep safe everyone.

    Off to badminton.

Ooo the rest of my post is missing…
    2. Lost 3 1/2 lb this week

Grr… And again why is it not showing all my post?

    Good evening all,
Back from visiting my sister in hospital. She went in with a kidney infection then started have poor king function so was on oxygen. Poor thing just what she needed before Christmas. Turns out some if the tablets she has been on have been mis prescribed. Typical.

She should be out by the end of the week so all is well. Not a great fast day but I did my best.

    I will fast tomorrow.

    Bedtime for me, night all.

Well done on loses – you are a credit to this thread.

Lizzy, So exciting. Hope it’s all over now. Is this your first? Bay 🙂

Good afternoon fast-tracking losers one and all.

Lizzie, hope you’ve joined our gran ranks by now – best role ever IMO. Such wonderful news.

Jojo, sorry to hear about your sister – hope she’s feeling better soon.

Take care everyone else – busy at work as go on leave after tomorrow. Nxxx

    Hi JoJo
Sorry to hear about your sister.

Errors with medications is a big risk factor these days . We all need to be vigilant , especially with generics. Yes they save money , but aren’t always the same chemistry. It causes unintended situations.

Posting from my mothers mobile, she’s letting me use hers till I switch mobile service beginning in January.

Ive been reading about detox teas. There a big red flag that’s hard to ignore. About the pesticides used on the teas, and the in the tea bags are some issues to. So I’m trying to educate myself with many more details. Looking into home grown teas, and local places to buy organic teas.
1 quick idea I had it stop putting the tea bags into my kuerig . I just let the dang thing heat the water then use an infuser . I cut open the bags and pour the leaves into the infuser . Basically a small stainless mesh strainer and dunk n stir . It’s not as mindless as just pushing a button and walla! But as it turns out I enjoy adding other fruit and spices into the infuser and making so interesting sips.

I also using one of my older model tea makers that I didn’t throw away.
I drink a lot of lemon and oranges. As snack foods. But my reading keeps suggesting to use the whole fruits peels and all. So 1 thing I’ve been experimenting with is scraping off the color of the peels called zesting. On feed days I eat the inner fruit. I use zest in the bottom of crock pots when making fish.
Leaving only the white pith to eat. It’s very good for us as it turns out , but it’s not appetizing ingredient. I’ve reeked many things. But have settled on this for now.
I grind up the pith and put In the old tea maker . Using the tea bags as fillters to keep from clogging up the spout. The water comes out with a good hint of citrus for my teas. But more important true pith is less pungent especially after two brews. So take the pith grinds and put some in hummus, a little in salads. The biggest use is in creating oatmeal cookies. That are slightly orange flavored . Wy wife gave me her recipe for making chocolate oatmeal no bake cookies. So then I found my thrill.
Dark chocolate/ orange pith oatmeal no bake cookies. It’s a treat food , I use stevia instead sugar , because of the diabetes .

    Well. What can I say.
I started on trying to find detox teas, but found away to make my own pesticide free no bake cookies.
I think it’s going to be a long time before I regain trust in the tea aisle. I invite you to look into it yourselves. What most tea companies are spraying on the leaves is shocking! I’m very defensive at this point, looking into detox teas only to find carcinogens being sprayed directly onto leaves and packaged as is. Scary! Take what I say as a Grain of salt. I’m not an expert. Just a weary consumer!

Lifted 10,000 lbs so far At home , and by bed tommorrow I’ll have loaded another 22,000 into trucks. So I let myself have the oatmeal treats, and protein drinks. Ate salmon and broccoli with carrots. Feeling as healthy as horse.

Hard to crawl out from under the heating blanket. House is cold , but the bed is so warm.
    .

Hi fast tracking loser friends day 2 fast B2B a bovril black coffee water and green tea thank you feeling empowered yesterday 14516 steps from 5.88km and 5.96km combined morning and afternoon i am happy with that the wind has wiped up a hell ova a lot here this afternoon maybe a storm brewing i think

    RT

    BigMarie
do you use or have a pedometer?

    Hi Samm

You made a comment about weight going on and off in different places. I think you may be right in my case. I am happy I am now down below 60 kg again, after fasting twice this week. However, from putting on the 1.5 kg weight over the last two weeks, and taking it off through fasting, my waist has gone up 2 cm even though the weight is down. Que?

I will experiment and see if it is my sweet tooth that is causing the waist gain. We are all our own experiment. 😆 B

Ooo. Gaining on the waist, Bay? Not a little bayleaf on the way? 😉
Only kidding Bay! We are both fascinated at the way we must be losing visceral fat, so developing funny hollows in the remaining tummy flab. I still think if I went in a heat shrink machine I could get skin to match my thinner body 😉
Made some top very spicy tomato relish for Christmas this morning. Non fast day, so pigged out with vegie patties smothered on it. Yum! P

YAY my FAST internet connection was set up and installed today …. WOOO HOOOO it’s so fast … even this old (15 years) laptop is working lots faster on the internet than with Telstra’s 4G dongle internet!

Hopefully this will mean I can use my phone/tablet more too so that I can access anywhere in the house AND have fast connectivity … such a joy and I’m sure than when the new laptop arrives it will be even faster as this is only a 2Gb RAM laptop (the bestest at the time lol) but it struggles with the programs and has been crashing lots lately.

    Built for speed AO? 😉

    Morning everyone.

A cold and bright frosty morning. It is cold for December, but so much nicer than rain.

I’m off for a 10,000 step walk soon, and to make the most of the sunshine.

    Have a good day/evening losers 😆

Just to let you know my little bruiser of a grandson arrived at 1.16am this morning weighing in at a whopping 8lb 12oz. He is beautiful. All concerned are doing well. Yes, Bay, first one.
    Lizzypb

    Hi Amazon
I’m being eaten alive by mossies as we try to plan a quick post xmas getaway in the vineyards on the computer.
So sad in Sydney today, I took a drive in the nearby National Park. Wild flowers blooming. Christmas bush next to Banksias. Cicadas screeching. A true Aussie Christmas. Lovely. P
