  • Hello Nama and interested parties,
If you are interested in metabolism changes after weight loss read the maintenance thread over the next few days. I posted a question on the thread and have already received an interesting reply. It does throw some light on the subject and more to the point should tell us so e real life experiences.

    jojo:

The word ‘metabolism’ is misused quite a bit by people that have probably never read its definition. Here is a short description of the term ‘metabolism’: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabolism. Once (if) you read it, you will know it is not as simple as saying your metabolism is fast or slow.

For practical weight loss purposes, you can measure your metabolism by referring to your TDEE number. If your TDEE is 3000, then your metabolism is faster than if your TDEE is 2000 – your body is burning more energy at 3000 than at 2000. You cannot have a ‘slow’ metabolism with a high TDEE.

As for your nails, gelatin (like Jello) is a common fix – but it is from animals!

    Good Luck!

Evening all. I’ve been out for most of the day and the time has flown. I didn’t even think about eating, despite the fact that I was buying edible Christmas gifts!

I went to the post office, somewhere I rarely visit, and the queue was full of people moaning about the number of people waiting and the time it was taking. I despair sometimes, it was unlikely that any of them had anything more urgent to do, and what did they expect at lunchtime a couple of weeks before Christmas
    Smiley
There were 15 or so people in front of me, with a 4 counters in operation, and I was there no more than 10-12 minutes. I thought it was the season of goodwill……

I browsed my way through various clothes shops with buying a pair of trousers in mind and then decided I would be wasting my money as they’ll be too big in a few months time and that I could manage with what I have.

I’ve just had the other half of the enormous steak I bought with the remainder of the coleslaw and salad, and I can’t believe how easily my FD has passed by.

My osteopath says I’m making good progress which is excellent news. It was rather an embarrassing treatment as my stomach gurgled loudly most of the time I was there. I blame the coffee I had just before my appointment Smiley

    Thank you Simcoeluv,
Very interesting, I will try the gelatin
    Jojo

Jojo, vitamin B7 is recommended for flaky nails, and you could try wearing rubber gloves when doing the dishes etc. and using lots of hand and nail cream if you don’t already. The other thing that might help is to stop wearing nail polish for a while.

Hi all I feel cheeky that I have been complaining it’s cold out when some of you are battered my storms. Had a happy weigh in today lost 2.75 lbs

    Thanks Amazon,
I only wear nail polish at social events, remove it next day. Probably on for less than 20 % of each week. Use rubber gloves and hand cream with nail conditioner.

    Well done Supermum, good start.

Hi Jo Jo I too used to have really flakey nails, I started taking a multi vitamin every day and now I find my nails are so much stronger and grow much faster too. It took about a month to see the difference.
Does anyone know how I would measure the calories in a homemade vegetable soup? I used 6 carrots 1 small swede a parsnip 2 onions and 2 stock cubes. I can work out raw calories for whole thing but then not sure how to judge portions of cooked soup as veg absorbed lots of water and so weighs differently. Any advice welcome.

Pour the whole batch into a measuring jug. If the jug isn’t large enough you might need to decant into another pan after measuring, but it’ll enable you to work out how many calories per ml/fl oz. But as it is vegetable soup you can probably afford to guestimate!

Superman when I work out calories per serve I use MyFitnessPal so I can put down all ingredients including water then, for example, I make 25L of soup (including all ingredients and water), 1L = 4 serves (again as an example it might only be 3 or as many as 5) so I then tell MFP how many serves and it works it all out for me for calories per serve. Hope this helps Smiley

Morning all FD for me today after a semi-FD yesterday so hopefully I’ll end up with a good loss this week.

Feeling a little battered and bruised after my remedial massage yesterday evening but also feeling full of beans/lighter if that makes sense at all. Woke through the night with a massive headache but all gone now thank goodness.

Hope everyone has a great day regardless of what you’re doing 😀

I went into a specialist tea and coffee shop today to buy a present and treated myself to some Indian chai teabags. It is delicious with a little stevia added.

    Good Morning
    You are up early AO
Thanks, Purple, for the boost. In fact, it all seems to be moving, and the scales show another kilo gone.
It’s good to see the exercise in weight loss article. Also interesting notes from Samm.

As far as lightning is concerned, I nearly got hit in Papua New Guinea with my two young daughters holding my hands. So I do respect lightning and all extreme weather, Purple. NZ has quite an extreme climate and very unpredictable

I will do another FD today but due to social commitments, from 2pm today to 2pm tomorrow.

    Happy fasting.
    Wiwi

    Hi all.
Yes Amazon! I like your forward thinking. …I wasted so much money buying new clothes when I was only half way down. They look awful on me now.

Hope you are feeling better by now AO 🙁

Jojo, I’ve always had weak nails. Take vitamins. Nothing helps. I just keep them short.

Wiwi, top work on the weightloss! I’ve been struck by lightning twice and another near miss. Explains a lot about me, doesn’t it? My family know not to be anywhere near me when lightning is around! !!! (I’d do the appropriate moticon if I knew how, but I find the moving ones make it very hard to concentrate on the text)

Happy fasting Monday folk. Happy sensible eating everyone else. P

I have a really nice black mid thigh length wool and cashmere mix jacket. I put it on today and it is getting too big so will have to go to the charity shop in the spring. My short padded jacket is now too big and I’ve had to part with my brown suede jacket that I’ve had for years as it is falling off me! That leaves me with a leather zip up jacket that is a bit tight but wearable, my waterproof that I had grown out of, and a new fitted purple winter coat that is too tight, but I had to buy it as I just love the colour, and it will fit next year.
I’ve had to ditch another bag full of clothes today as I kept pulling stuff out of the wardrobe, putting it on and discovering it was too big. On the plus side I was a devil for buying things that I intended to slim into and I’m finally doing it.

I often look like a refugee in my oversized clothes Amazon. I figure they don’t make me look fat. 🙂
My granddaughter was pressing my last year swimmers in where they are meant to be filled with breast fat…now just pancakes. 😆
I’m pleased you are planning to only ever fit into smaller clothes in future. A couple of expensive dresses I bought slightly small last summer are now roomy and I’m only a few kilos lighter! P

    Hey All,
Had a brilliant evening at badminton, won most games. Feeling really fit. Took mandarins to eat instead of biscuits on offer.

I just had to get rid of my little black dresses cos they were very large tents, size 24 now 14-16. Luckily I too had bought a ‘too small’ bargain three years ago and although it was still too big it will serve me this year. I bought some magic arms to wear under it. They are brilliant, black lace, and you can wear them under any ‘no sleeve’ dress that it matches. Covers a multitude of sins. I will put a photo on Facebook.

I really dislike wearing baggy and smocked clothes now as I had no choice at one time. I never want to see another swing dress. When I am size 12 it will be bodycom for me even when it goes out of fashion.

The way I see it we are saving at least £4.00 per week being a member of a slimming club so that is my clothing fund per month. Luckily bargains are everywhere this year. Also I buy second hand and from EBAY.

    1000 cals tomorrow, luxury.

    Jojo xx

Add the cost of eating less food, too, Jojo….now you can buy some glamorous jewelery on Ebay to set off your clinging new clothes! 😉 P

I used to loathe clothes shopping, looking for the tent at the back of the rail and hoping I could squeeze into it. I am really enjoying going into a shop and knowing that “normal” clothes will fit me.

I am so glad to have two daughters – they are now providing me with smaller clothes, they don’t need. Hand me ups, they call them.

I really don’t need many winter clothes due to our migration patterns.

The op (charity) shops in NZ are a good source of clothes. The clothes become temporary friends as I move down. I have gone from size 22 to size 14 on top and 16 below. I am amazed that my feet have changed shape too and my shoes need to be narrower.

Your stories about clothes are heartwarming and so familiar, Purple, Amazon, JoJo.

    xxWiwi

    Hi All,
I just bought a brown leather jacket on Ebay but definately I won’t be buying jewellery as I am swamped in it, all costume of course. People always buy me jewellery and scarves for my birthday and Christmas. I could open a shop I have so many here.

Looking forward to weigh in tomorrow, I am guessing another lb down.

I think your Southern Hemisphere storm ( tail end anyway) is coming our way, expected Thursday 40-50 mile per hour winds on our Southern Coast( where I live).
Guess I had better put the garden furniture in the garage tomorrow.

Must go to bed now, new class tomorrow.

    Night all
    Jojo xx

Hoping I didn’t mislead anyone with the posts I made yesterday.

When it comes to exercise. And not strength Training . They are two very different things.
The strength training takes a lot of effort to exaust the muscles so that they start to grow. And it’s a bit tricky to explain simply. I spent many years on.body building forums and working out in gyms when I was younger. When builders cut. The space the use so be filled with fat lage fat cell become space that muscle cells may occupy. Then they bulk on muscle foods which also adds much fat back into the area, then. Keep repeating it. Each time they cut and then bulk the body gets a little more muscle mass.

What most typical dieters do. Is aerobic exercise which , mostly goes to metabolism.
Because I fast , I go with aerobic exercise. It’s the cut.
When i break from fasting I go with a focus on anaerobic exercises and eat foods that help bulk up.

For me my main issue is diabetes – which I use fasting and strict menu to control.
But I’m also going to lose the obesity .
So I go on ADF for 12 days a month- to focus on the fat.
Then the rest of the month I focus on strength training and being active.

I don’t count the increase in my muscle mass that much towards an improved metabolism.
I do count the calories I use to exercise towards my calorie formula.

There are many charts that explain how many calories you per burn per exercise.
What I’m finding that works fo me personally is to try for 2,000 calories of exercise per week.
That’s a lot more effort than I expected when I first started fasting., but it’s my doable number.

The insight of my experience is that if not in muscle building – then it doesn’t matter if the calories are burn in a 20minutes. Or 20 hours. They still apply to calories in. Calories out.

So if I were to enjoy a dancing or self defense video that burns in 30 minutes. Great. I be glad to enjoy that.

However the same amount of calories can be burned at a slower rate on other exercise equipment .
My choice jato keep using stability ball, weights, and the therapeutic movements. The workouts designed for walkers to strengthen the walking muscles..

With my job. , i walk so much . It only makes sense to me to apply strength training on the muscle groups that make me a stronger walker. As that has been played out in 2014, my focus is now more on core , a my arms and legs have increased significantly last year, my focus will turn to core strength. As I get stronger I may cut back the ADF to 3lbs a month as I’m not in a hurry . But I still try for the goal of 5lbs a month by having 8000 calories of exercise a month .

I was thinking I would just rewrite this rough draft after editing it . It’s too rambley.
But I post it anyway. Hopefully it might make sense to somebody.

Very sleepy, can’t keep my eyes open.
Hope things go as planned for y’all!

I did the 7 compound lifts at the gym today. I have doms , but have to go to work later. So I’m going to rest up to last minutes before clocking In.

I guess the at some point my approach has changed.
Wethe I want to be fit, or thin.
After a a quick discussion with simcoeluv. My approach is to become fit, then focus on becoming thin.
Because even obese people’s that exercise regularly sometimes live well into their 90s.
Since I’m able to put in the effort to become a better walker, and better better at HIIT . It’s just a small detour, I feel is on to a better road for me.

A combination of a fasting cycle then a strength training cycle.

I’m curious if there’s a uv protection for fingernails.

I know fingernails are windows into our health. Like nail damage can be a clue to other health issues sometimes.
Boy I’m rambley when I’m sleepy
    Later gators!

    Morning all.
Cold and frosty this morning, but the sky is blue.

Another FD for me, and another busy day ahead. More cleaning, rugs and upholstery this time, does it ever end? Followed by grocery shopping and exercise. Then I’m off to the recycling centre later to dispose of three large bin bags of of too large clothes, which is something I shall enjoy 😉 and then on to visit my brother and his family. My nephew is home from university so it’ll be great to catch up with him.

    Have a good day/evening everyone 🙂

Good morning FastTrackers, no lb off for me today because I had a midnight feast. I just could not sleep last night, pain and frustration(I think). Anyway decided to get up and have a very early feed day breakfast. Just a couple of eggs and a cuppa but that is enough to prevent weight loss today. Still expect 2 lb by Saturday though. So I treated my self to a lay in today and cancelled my 2 hour group walk this morning. I will still do my new class at 11.30 am.
It seem lately that my plans keep being changed but we have to be flexible.

SAMM – I understood your last posting( I don’t always understand your complex system). I on the other hand plan to get slim, then really fit because my body refuses to cooperate and be helpful medically. I am hoping that with three stone more off it will be easier and ‘recommended by experts’ to take on more energetic exercise.

I don’t really enjoy ‘body building’ type gym work, I just can’t get into it. The only strength build for me is kettlebell swing and yoga(to a lesser extent, because your own body is the weight bearing tool). I wish I had someone to go with to make it more enjoyable( my friends just enjoy lifting a coffee cup and eating cake). That’s the good thing about aerobic exercise – group activities and tv,s or headphones to keep you company. I burn at least 500 cals per trip( 3 times per week)and unlike you do it on a fast day so I don’t reward myself with a nice coffee and cake after my workout. I go straight home and cook a big veg stir fry with 100 grams of protein and zero noodles. Is this a mistake?

Now I think ‘muscle building’ is better with a protein drink half an hour before you strart, am I right? That’s what I will do today anyway.

Cold clear day. Dog walk now and the last of my incidental Christmas( tree gifts)shopping this afternoon. Also planning a trip to dump stuff at the charity shop.

Have a great day guys. Now I must dig out that tape measure, long overdue for a measure up. I think I might have calves that will fit into long boots this year, albeit wide calf versions. These have been denied me for 20 years.

You have probably still lost a lb Jojo, just that you ate breakfast before getting on the scales! I do admire you and Amazon and SAMM with all your exercise, don’t know where you get your discipline!

I spent the morning at the market, lovely fresh Salmon for dinner plus bought poultry and pork for Xmas. We are lucky and have a big regional market quite close, fruit and veg are so fresh and seafood so cheap. I have no hesitation splashing out on more expensive things such as blueberries though, am saving money by not buying any junk/treats….just love blueberries on my muesli. Every morning husband says “these look expensive” and I reply, “eat them they are good for you!”

My weight down a bit more this morning after yesterday’s fast, just a tad under 10 kg gone,I am so happy with this. When I started in September I thought 10kgs would be gone by early next year, fantastic to be early! Hopefully Xmas meals won’t undo any of it. 3 lunches this week then a big one on a boat cruise on Sunday, so I had better be careful! Fortunately I am a ‘cheap drunk’ so won’t waste cals on alcohol, just need to avoid the sweets.

    Cheers all!

Nama, give yourself a pat on the back for losing the weight sooner than expected. This WOE makes losing weight much easier than any diet I’ve ever been on, but that doesn’t make it easy, we still have to be tough and strict with ourselves in order to be successful.
Enjoy your lunches, and have everything you want, but try to eat half the amount of what you would have had before, and/or skip breakfast and dinner. Then you’ll come home having had a great time, and satisfied that you’ve had some lovely food and not done any damage to the weight loss plan. If you don’t succeed, it means that it’ll take a bit longer to shift the next few kilos, but as this is a marathon not a sprint, it doesn’t really matter.

    Thanks Amazon!

    Nama,
    Aldo do the cheapest blueberries.
Got to rush lunch out, really hungry, breakfast at midnight not great idea

    Evening all.
Where did the day go Smiley

Nama well done to you that’s the right motivation isn’t it? Loved the morning exchange of pleasantries also eat it its good for you.. and it did remind me of the classic “grumpy old men” movie and in there was some doozies hey 😆 we way under value I think the determination and courage needed to even be on this way of living in the first place as there are plenty that I know who have had a go and no way it’s too hard and bailed by lunch time and never try again. And Despite my 14 yo son insisting that he will most surely die 😯 if he has to spend a day/night on Nana’s farm without the iphone ipad gaming console laptop desktop as there is no service or wi-fi terrible and no Foxtel or paytv. But there is a 1000 acres motor bikes quad bikes ride on lawn mower a go cart and a rusty old holden ute trees and plenty of fresh air and rain water. Going a day with zero food or as close to does not kill you in fact what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger IMO happy hump day fast friends
    Peace
    RT

I am torturing myself by baking a cake on a fast day 😮

I have a friend coming for coffee tomorrow and I promised to bake something. It is a date and walnut cake and it smells divine. I’ve also made a huge batch of pastry for mince pies that will be frozen raw and cooked as and when required. Not only does it mean they are always fresh, but it stops me from opening the tin and shovelling one in without thinking about it 😆

It is very cold this evening with an icy wind. I thought I was going to freeze on the way home from the station, but I’ve been restored by a bowl of veggie chilli.

I’m feeling a bit smug as I only got back from Cuba on Friday lunchtime and I’ve done 3 FDs. I’m going to really enjoy that cake tomorrow.

Good morning RT, Jojo, Emel, Nicky, Nama, Lizzy, Amazon, PVE, Simco, SAMM, Smiffy, Wee, Wiwi, Hermaj (hopefully) and oh my goodness so many others who’s names escape me right this minute but please be included in this greeting 😆

Yesterday was not a good day for me, starting with waking with that headache which decided to give me grief all day, albeit by just sitting there and making me feel dopey 😀 (doesn’t take much does it, lol), it was meant to be a FD but ended up a semi-FD as my friend decided she was coming over (love her to bits so no issue there) and as she was arriving around tea time she brought dinner with her (take away), I had the chicken schnitzel and literally 6 chips … I was stuffed full by then and in reality I could have eaten less … and SHOULD have! However, by this morning headache is ALL GONE!

My friend was in the educational arena here and due to several things ended up having a mental breakdown and is still in recovery more than 10 years later but she is slowly coming off anxiety and depression medication this past year with the guidance of her psych specialist and my moral support, and so I make sure I’m available for her when she needs or wants to chat with me. When she’s having bad times I seem to know and make sure we chat a little each day – it can be about anything but she has a Goldie so we generally talk dogs or crafting or set the world to rights over a cuppa.

Was lovely to be able to read all your posts even though I wasn’t posting much yesterday, agree RT that some people don’t give a real try to this WOL and give up within 24 hours then there are some people who jump right in (insert me and maybe you) and give it a go with the mind set that they’ll try it for 6 weeks and if after that they don’t like or can’t cope then they’ll re-evaluate. Then find within 2 weeks that this is the right WOL and are ecstatic (again insert ME and maybe many of YOU here).

The best thing about this WOL is that if something like yesterday happens you just change things around to suit your social activities even at a moments notice 😆

Must run for now as babies need feeding and I still have lots to do before work. I’ll try to keep up with everything/everyone today at least a little better 😀

I am in awe Amazon. Did you make the pastry yourself! I am pretty certain that I have not done so for a decade! I buy frozen pastry sheets! Concert night went off well! No major dramas. Glad I am fasting today as I gave up last night and ate all that I should not. Oh well it is but one day. Taking some students to a Lions club presentation tonight, dropping them home and then off to join our graduate year sevens and then home again. I need some normalcy interestingly, I really do not feel so great after my chocolate and carb over indulgence! Excess truly is not good !

Well done you pack of losers! 😉 (Doesn’t that sound rude?)
Samm, regarding diabetes, my OH had a hiccup this week… he changed his fast days last week to Mon/Weds instead of Thursday. This meant a full 4 non fasting days before the next Monday fast. His blood sugar level had risen into the 7s by Monday. It is normally in the 5s all the time. As he keeps all his data, he knows it was not having evenly spread fast days that caused the rise. Further confirmation that diabetes is kept under control by regular fasting. At least for him. P

Morning Aussie absolutely YES and i am not going out on a limb here when i say but you only get out it (of anything really) what you put in to it and we (insert you and me) have gone full tilt at this WOL and really getting the benefits both weight loss and health which means I should be around to take more SKI Spending Kids Inheritance 😯 😆 Holidays 😉
PVE i wish i had thought of that 💡 brilliant
loved it a member of a pack of losers
    how sweet it is

Losing my ISP connection. Not exactly sure why, some kind of contract issue.
Will back when I can be.
    KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!

    emel,

I’ve always enjoyed cooking and from a young age used to help my Mum who was a great cake maker and her pastry was very good. Apparently mine is too, and I like to make it, but if I want puff pastry I buy it ready made as life is too short for all that faffing about 😉
I make my own mincemeat too.
I find cooking very relaxing, but for those who don’t have time or were not born to cook, there are plenty of ready made options available, which taste just as good.

I’ve put lemon icing on the date and walnut cake and it looks fab. I can’t wait to cut it 😛

    Hi everyone!
Aussie Oma don’t apologise for missing a name, why do you think I don’t even try, far too hard! I am the lazy one on this thread! Glad your headache is gone, take care of yourself as well as your friends. I thought of you at Jamieson on the weekend as our neighbour up there has a brand new Shepherd puppy, Bella, so very cute. She also has an aging poodle but I think Bella is a special purchase as her husband died last year unexpectedly and quite young (my age!) and his beautiful German Shepherd (Beth) also died a few months ago. Despite Bella coming in and leaving big poos on my back lawn ( gee now I remember why I had a small dog), I am really pleased for my neighbour that she now has a bundle of joy to think about.

Yes RT you are so perceptive, he can be a real Grumpy Old Man at times, but don’t worry, that’s exactly what I call him. Actually all I need to say is that he is turning into his father, that’s usually enough! Very funny about your 14yr old, he will end up having a ball, lucky boy. Our country place only has Telstra coverage, so visitors with other providers are cut off from the world too. The adults usually love it!

And I agree, that’s fabulous PVE, I would love to be part of a Pack of Losers! Is that just an Aussie expression, or do you in the North also refer to real losers the same way?

Your cake sounds divine Amazon, enjoy! I find cooking relaxing too, but have stopped making mince pies as I am the only one who eats them, I love home made ones and can’t possible resist them. Maybe next year! The willpower muscle is definitely growing …. Or maybe I can’t take the credit, it’s actually this brilliant new way of eating and not feeling deprived.

    Have a lovely day/evening all. X

    Amazon,
Stop teasing, it’s a fast day tomorrow, that cake sounds delicious. I rarely cook for friends on fast days but I do enjoy cooking and of course eating. I am looking forward to my Spiralizer challenge in January.

I ended up having two meals out today, chicken curry for lunch and calamari with rocket salad for dinner. I saw the film ‘St Vincent’ this afternoon, really enjoyed it. We now have a special deal at our cinema on Tuesday nights, great, it’s only £3.50 per tkt. sadly this meant we used the left over money on ice cream.

My new exercise class was not very enjoyable, just moving from machine to machine then doing stretches and push ups. I will stick with it, see if it grows on me. Looking forward to gym and bowling tomorrow.

A friend recommended kick boxing – anyone do this?

Took my measurements today, down 2 inches on bust, waist and hips – great news.
    Have you measured lately?

    Hi Amazon,

I enjoyed reading your account of Cuba, sounded great.

I’m with you on pastry. My Mum always bought ready made, so she never taught me (because she couldn’t!). But I’ve discovered I have an aptitude for it, and I get a lot of satisfaction from cooking. I’m off to Dad’s this weekend to make his mince pies etc as I won’t be with him for Xmas. I suspect I may have to try one to check they’re OK 🙂

Top news Jojo… 2″ is significant! ! Well done ☆
I was one if the finalists in a competition for a car last night. Had to hang around at a club for 2 hours. I won a competitive game that entitled me to 2 more tickets in the big draw. Didn’t need the car anyway. But I did eat totally unacceptable food out of nervous energy! 3/4 plate of vegetarian enchilada, 2 glasses of wine and half a slice of strawberry sponge filled with cream. Hasn’t effected my weight this morning. Wouldn’t want to do it too often though.
It really pays to weigh every morning to monitor if I need to have a mini fast or not. P

PVE, how exciting but disappointing in the end. I think I would have succumbed to food too under those circumstances.

Yes I still weigh daily, keeps me on track but can be frustrating. I hope eventually to make it a monthly event. I have tried cutting it down but it has been detrimental to my weightloss. Burying head in the sand for this weeks then a major effort just to maintain previous weight.

I need to do some cooking for friends I am seeing next week but I think I will do it last minute, otherwise I will be tempted. I like to give homemade gifts to close friends. My kids always get something they have chosen.

Posting very early today as full day of exercise planned. But before that I have a mountain of paperwork to sort out.

Have a good Wednesday or Thursday fast. Circuit training again today so before you know it I will be in the Mrs Universe competition. Just joking hate the ‘over toned, over tanned, over oiled’ look.

How much time do each of you devote to fitness and toning and what do you do?

Hi Jojo and other losers. 😉

I seem to have fallen off the thread and have had to Subscribe again. Does this happen to others? Wow! So much to read.

Amazon, Well done. Wiwi, keep on keepin on!

I said on the Maintenance thread that I had over indulged in sugar, cake and wine over the last two weeks. Put on weight. 😳 Now back on the wagon with a vengeance. No food today, except two bowls of home made vegetable soup.

RT, , love reading your posts. Samm, hope you’re back soon.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

    Hi Jojo

I just went back and read the last two pages of posts. Saw yours about giving up lattes. I agree. We have changed from two lattes a day people, who “couldn’t” get by without milk in our coffee, to people who order long black coffees with pleasure. I am sure all that milk put weight on me in the past. Good luck. We changed the mix of milk to black coffee over about two weeks.

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

    Hi All,
My question about changes in metabolism after weight loss came back from the maintenance thread. Basically some felt that there is an improvement after obtaining a healthy body fat ratio( 30 or below) whilst others didn’t really notice much of a change. It seems that like dieting everyone travels their own path. Age definitely plays its role and amount of exercise impacts upon effort of long term maintenance through fasting. So if you do enough exercise you may be able to maintain on the minimum 1-6 if you permanently eat healthily and probably under 1800 cals per day. For every indulgence meal a compensation fast is recommended.
I have just committed myself to 40 lb loss in 20 weeks from January. I am determined to have a super slim summer.
No food madness for me this Christmas, my enjoyment will have to be based around fun, luckily I love silly games.
    Jojo xx

Fun games is a great way to enjoy life, Jojo. I also find if I host parties I hardly eat or drink anything on the day/night as I’m too busy. I also expend lots of energy preparing, serving and cleaning up. The trick is to give the leftovers to visitors (my kids usually) before they leave so there is no temptation left. It is SO much harder if I am the guest, especially if the food on offer is not suitable. 🙁 P

Thanks for feedback Jojo. I believe that our metabolism is dynamic (changes) according to what we are doing/eating as well as being individual to each of us. Our body chemistry is so complex that one rule can’t apply to all of us, just generalisations. But we can all use the principles of fasting to achieve our goals, with individual tailoring to our needs/lifestyles/preferences. I am so grateful that Michaels program aired in Aus as I believe it has been really life changing for me. Now I sound like an evangelist!

I had a lovely Greek lamb salad for lunch today but was not even tempted by the rich cakes my friends were inhaling for desert. (Greek cafe) It is hard not to feel or sound smug! It constantly amazes me that my sweet tooth has fallen out!

Now to write the Christmas cards….delaying…..

    Morning all.

Warning, this post mentions food :wink

I’ve got some mince pies in the oven. I tried using half the amount of sugar and half the amount of fat in my mincemeat this year. My friend who is coming round adores mince pies, so I want her opinion on how they taste.

It is a beautiful day, and my only day at home this week. I might go out for a walk this afternoon, but it depends on how long my friend stays, as I could get cracking and start decorating cakes as I appear to be in domestic goddess mode.

    Have a good day/evening everyone.

Jojo, kick boxing might not be good for your hip.

Well done on the 2″ loss, that is a substantial difference 🙂

P.S. I went to see my brother yesterday and he thought it was hysterical that I had lost 10 inches from my waist Smiley

My sweet tooth is alive and kicking, but it is satisfied with a much smaller amount, and there are some things I just can’t eat any more such as carrot cake if it is covered in frosting.

Ooooh! Amazon, domestic goddess with waist. 😉

Come and bake for me. I managed to fast today on just a cup of black coffee, 2 litres of water, and two bowls of home made vegetable soup. Now off to bed for an early night. 😆 Cheers, Bay

I’ve just eaten two slices of cake and two mince pies Smiley
