  • Yes Aussie you are correct the Mount is always way cooler down there I live in Naracoorte 110km south and today’s forecast is 38d and 21d tomorrow talk about up and down hey and very muggy here today

Hi RT we’re expecting 23oC tomorrow so a slight drop from today (not quite winter woollies weather but not far from it though, lol 😆 )

Decided to have a lunch break today so am taking the break in between other tasks which keep popping up, lol.

Will need photo’s from York of the Fading Frolickers (can’t remember the exact suggestions, both of which I liked for this choral grouping gathering at York, lol) particularly the red trousers and shoes/boots 😆

Perhaps colour co-ordination can be achieved not necessarily the same but contrasting and complementary ones 😛

Trying to ensure I don’t consume too much again today in anticipation of tonight … wish me strength to withstand the cheesecake other than the smallest sliver 🙂

Save the sliver of cheesecake til the very last Aussie, then savour it slowly! You will more than compensate for it, so enjoy it!

My hairdresser is Sri Lankan and the best cook. He always spoils me with some home made treat with a coffee and today it was a beautiful, spicy Sri Lankan Christmas cake. Now I have to hunt out the ingredients tomorrow (got the recipe too) and make one myself! My hairdresser explained to me the Dutch influence in Sri Lankan cooking, esp the baking. Only had strawberries for lunch after that!

The mind boggles at the thought of you all in York, Hermaj in barrow with tin in hand, Jojo trying to get you all to sing instead of giggle! Such a shame we can’t share photos on this thread.

    Hi you lovely people

For some reason I fell off the thread and was busy painting, so didn’t think to look. Have now read many of the posts. Congrats Nicky on new OB, and Jojo on your new red trousers that fit. 😉

On a fast day with temps well over 30C. I love the heat, as we cool down each evening. It’s possible to have a range of 20C plus, between day and night. To live comfortably in this climate you need North facing windows for Winter, which we have. 🙂

Have a great time in York singing and dancing. : lol:

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

    Morning all.
It’s a dull and dreary looking Thursday, but at least it is dry.
Osteopath this morning, fingers crossed it helps.
I hope everyone is well this morning, especially those who’ve been suffering, Jojo, Wee, Purple. If I’ve missed anyone apologies but there are so many posts I can’t remember everything.
Poor Lizzie, that must have been awful. I love my coffee and fortunately I can drink as much as I wish at any time of day, and I hope that doesn’t change any time soon.
The thread has certainly made interesting reading with discussions regarding talented artists, solar energy, York, Bath, choirs and carols, Christmas decorations, plus bits and pieces of daily life across the world.
I see the thread has passed 4,000 posts 😛
We all know how to chat 😆
Jojo, 4 and 1/2 stone loss is amazing and inspiring, well done and thank you 🙂
I have 7 days to shift the last couple of lbs to reach the 2 stone goal before my holiday, so I guess that’s it as far as alcohol, cheesecake and pizza is concerned. Veggie chilli today. I have a lot to do so hopefully I’ll be too busy to think about food until mid afternoon at the earliest.

When I think of Sri Lankan food, I think of blindingly hot curries, which were excellent, so the thought of a Dutch influenced Sri Lankan cake is mind boggling but I bet it is good!

Time to get moving, having a great day/evening everyone.

    Jojo,

Amazing work on shifting 4.5 stone. You must feel a lot lighter now!

Your new red trousers remind me that I had a pair of purple (velvet) trousers a few years back. I got quite a lot of attention in them, I think more due to the fact that I felt fantastic in them and confidence comes across? I still have them, unfortunately too large now ( 🙂 and 🙁 ), and that, I’m afraid, is the fate of your red trousers! So strutt your stuff and enjoy them while they fit!

    Good morning Fast trackers,
My goodness this thread is busy these days, it’s like reading a book each morning but I love it, so personal. I am old enough to remember having pen friends and letters from relatives and boyfriends written by hand, so romantic. Electronic messaging suit my needs for speed but does not fulfill my joy of opening a personal letter. All post now is advertising or bills, not very enjoyable.
Aussie 23 degrees is what I call bikini weather let alone jumper. Lucky you.
Happy now, if I have clothes I like I simply take them in, it’s not that difficult especially trousers and dresses. Obviously underwear has to go or else it might go when you are not expecting it.
Thankyou guys, I wish I did feel slim but I am a long way short of target, 3 stones to go to get to the top range of my height weight ratio. Weirdly I don’t actually feel that different as I was always active and flexible, my weight did not really slow me down that much. I guess the biggest changes are flights of stairs and comfort of my bra which used to be a total pain. I still don’t wear wired ones though, pretty but not practical or comfortable for my size.
I think the next three stone will make the difference.
Off to the gym today but taking it easy still, cough still slowing me up.

    Aussie Oma,
Forgot to say, I don’t think I will be wearing all that red on the York trip, might get mistaken for Santa. I had to send the boots back, they were maroon not cherry red, plus my leather jacket might not be suitable for English weather at the end of November.

Thanks for the information about Bath everyone, can’t wait. Loving this freedom to go where I want when I want. Retirement is good. Pity I don’t have a travel companion but I am quite independent so it doesn’t stop me doing much.

Have a great fast or non fast day all.

Nama – you can join our Facebook group, speak to Smithy, we can post photos on there. We are of course all stunningly beautiful as you would expect, most of course are very, very slim and look as if they never need to go on a diet. Which reminds me I promised to post my Mrs Santa picture on there, must sort that today.

Gosh over 4000 posts, you are right we are a chatty lot, especially me. Hermaj I am the opposite of shy, talk to everybody and anybody, bus stops, trains, buses, queues, probably very irritating to others but I can read body language and know when conversation not welcome.

Thanks Amazon. The physio really knows her stuff. Even managed an hour or so of walking around the shops tonight in only mild pain! And no alcohol (fast day) to soothe it 🙁 Can read for longer now the eyes are getting better too!
    Keep fit everyone. P

    Hi all,

I am only approx one third to achieving my goal (exactly 7kg gone today), but things are really changing! I went out with friends for dinner tonight and could barely finish my main (of gnocchi )which was not a large serve at all. Then perusing the dessert menu, nothing appealed and the thought of more food actually made me feel yuk! This is not like me at all! Have done mon and wed fasts this week (lots on socially) and my stomach is seriously shrinking and sweet tooth barely there! I did have one small piece of special Xmas cake earlier in the day but had only strawberries for lunch afterwards to compensate. As a lifetime member of WW I am a well practised dieter, but have never, ever experienced a phenomena such as this! So exciting! It can’t all be mind over matter can it?

If this keeps up, Xmas food won’t be the challenge I was expecting!

11:58 so good morning friends .

I was going to get Dad today but when I went into the shower I got another twinge in my back so giving it another day . I NEVER give into anything like this but When my lovely dad is getting in and out of my car I just can’t help but lean into him and help him .It is something we do instinctively and always get such a lovely smile back 🙂

I think I have told you all that he sings his own wee song all day long . For those of you who are friends on FB , I have posted shot videos of him singing .

I am not used to sitting on my bum for hours on end and I wan’t to get up and do something but better not .

I am on FD again today . I did 4 last week and to be honest I find them easier than normal eating days . I was bad with IBS so I didn’t normally eat until the evening anyway so that if I was out and about I would wait to eat until I was home and close to my own loo . Not so easy on the days I am in all day ( like today )

Jojo I am the same as you pal . I talk to everyone .In the check outs or actually anywhere lol . Our youngest Granddaughter used to say ” NannY!! do you know everyone ? … Yesss lol xx

Just a friendly person at heart am I lol . I always think when I smile at people that I might have been the only one to smile at them that day .

have a great day everyone and be prepared for me to be ” butting in ” all day lol 🙂

    Wee xx

    Hi all.

I’m just back from the osteopath and my back feels good. I’ve got another appointment the day before I go to Cuba, and I’m hoping it will be improved enough not to be a pain (in every sense of the word) while I’m away.

Purple, glad to hear both the back and the eyes are getting better 🙂

I got to my appointment early so had a wander along the street. There is a really good butcher AND a wet fish shop, along with several cafés and coffee shops. The veggie chilli will now wait until tomorrow as I have bought a nice hake steak for my FD dinner tonight. I even had time for a coffee!

When I was working and spent most of my time talking to other members of staff and patients, I rarely chatted to anyone in shops/at bus stops/on trains, but now I do it all the time and I’ve had some fascinating conversations with complete strangers who I’ll never see again 😛

Wonderful to hear ALL the backs are healing… Pain is such a drag. But I get the impression that all the people on this thread are really strong, positive people and things like an injured back won’t keep them down for long.

I too am a chatterbox, not that anyone could tell! I love talking to anyone because I find most people endlessly fascinating. And most people love to talk about themselves, just a few leading questions and they tell you about their interesting lives! I don’t think it’s being a ‘sticky beak’ to be genuinely interested. And yes Wee, I agree, many people may not have had anyone smile at them all day. And those poor checkout people, it must break the monotony of their day when someone bothers to chat to them!

This is so off topic but I thought I would share! I have a very loud male koala grunting outside my bedroom. I think it is mating season. They are cute to look at but they are not that nice a beast a bit like walruses I think
They are also very proprietary at this time of year so when I got home an hour half ago I was greeted to a disgruntled roar. Itt has been a very long day 14 and a half hours to be precise and the populous believe teachers have an easy life! Well in bed and gave read most if your posts.
. Tomorrow is my fast day and I am actually looking forward to it….. Night all emel

Are you certain it’s just a koala Emel!?

emel, there is no such thing as off topic on this thread, we’ll talk about anything 😆

I like koalas, we saw one walking along the road from one tree to the next, in the middle of a built up area in the Adelaide hills. I thought it was a dog at first, but as soon as it saw us it shot up a tree! It was the only wild one I saw in the 2 months I was in Australia 🙂

    Nama……………………….. 😆

Lol Nama I was thinking the same thing . I might be a 6ft tall dark haired hunk of a man 🙂 🙂

    Wee xx

    Emel1962,
You are so lucky, I love wild creatures and never even seen a Koala except in pictures and on film. The only local life here are foxes, not a great mating noises, lots of late night high pitched squeeling. Other than that it’s parakeets, infested with them around here, common gulls, magpies and crows. Sadly these big birds keep all the little ones away.

Off to walk my pooches now, that should scare a few squirrels from digging up their nuts. Don’t worry I muzzle them in the park, give the wild life a chance, terriers are very quick when small game hunting.

No our conversations are often off piste, we can’t always focus on diet and exercise, that would be dull. I am sure it keeps some posters off our thread but they can always start their own serious diet dedicated thread. Personally I love the variety and humour of this thread, keeps me smiling.

Making my Christmas list today but mostly buying theatre tickets or vouchers. Who needs more things? My family are clubbing together and getting me a new sewing machine which will be put to very good use.

Speak latter guys, after 10 pin bowling.

Well done Jojo getting into the red pants. I have nothing so seasonally apt for York. I hope the weather’s going to be dry. Thanks for the kind advice about caffeine too. I’ll be more careful in future.

Hermaj – thanks for reminding us about the cobbles in York! I rarely wear high heels but will definitely give some thought to suitable footwear. I don’t want to be uncomfortable walking round the markets. In some ways I’d like it to be cold. It’s easier to keep warm. I’m thinking of carrying a big shopping bag for spare shoes etc. Must look for something stylish. I’m a terrible old bag lady usually. My karate stuff lives in a battered old reusable Morrison’s bag!

    Hi jojo,

I think our tastes in art overlap. The only one on your list that doesn’t float my boat is Hogarth, can’t really explain why.

I would add Jackson Pollock and his “drip paintings” that are so full of mad energy, German Expressionists, especially Auguste Macke, George Grosz and Otto Dix (did an essay on them during the MA and got one of my best marks), the wonderfully whacky Marc Chagall, probably my absolute favourite, with Edward Hopper running him a close second. His paintings are fairly conventional but I identify very strongly with those lone figures wrapped up in the interior worlds. A minor ambition of mine is to have a cuddly toy kangaroo and call him Edward Hopper.:)

Famous locals? Karl Marx, buried in Highgate Cemetery a couple of miles away. Currently most famous and still very much alive: Peter Capaldi, aka Dr Who and Malcolm Tucker the gloriously sweary spin doctor in The Thick of It who lives about half a mile away. Back in the spring my gorgeous great-nephew had his annual birthday treat, a trip to see the fabulous stage production of War Horse, followed by tapas (his choice) at our excellent local Spanish place. But what really made his day was to find the Doctor himself at a nearby table.

Re the red trousers. As you say, nothing that a good foundation garment can’t fix. A longish top, e.g. a bum’n’tum-covering tunic, might also help, especially if the pants are slim-leg. I’d go for black or navy with maybe more red, e.g. scarf, earrings or whatever. But that’s just me.

    Hi Lizzy,

    re bags.

I’m a complete oaf when it comes to bags. Shoulder bags slip off my shoulders or if I wear them crossways they get tangled up with the chain holding my on-off specs. Handbags I just can’t be doing with.

My college bag when I was doing the MA was a large, reusable Tesco bag, navy with ladybirds, which is still going strong. A couple of months back, for the first time in my life, my eye was caught by a shopper in M&S which I went ahead and bought. It had a sort of Art Deco design, very much like some of those that the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright used in his stained glass. So I shall almost certainly be bringing FLW (a lot of the inanimate objects in my life have names) to York with me, as well as a spare placky bag.

    Hi Jojo,
I’m reasonably handy with a sewing machine, but couldn’t work out how to alter the purple trousers to maintain their shape without taking off the waistband, unpicking every seam, detaching the zip, recutting the panels and re-sewing. I’m afraid that’s too much of a strip down and rebuild for me! Do you do alterations for others? 🙂

Happy Now . This is quite a good link and it is easier when you don’t have pocket linings as are in Mens trousers . There are loads of wee good videos on there xx

    Wee xx

    Happy now,
I was thinking of a couple of darts and a quick run up the seems, your project sounds like a job for a professional. If you like them that much it is probably worth getting a quote. I would love to be skilled enough to do dressmaking for a living though. Maybe I should take a course?
Hermaj, yep I love all the artists you mentioned, sounds like we should do some London Galleries together. My idea of heaven provided a good lunch is on the agenda.
I would love to go on Bargain Hunt, anyone keen to join me?

Bad news re my boiler, new heat exchanger needed and system flush necessary – £500.00 plus. He suggested running it till it dies and replacing the 12 year old boiler, how depressing. It will probably break down on Christmas Day.

I will definitely wear sensible shoes for York and I am a big fan of my tapestry rucksack. I may need to put my blue glass baubles, if found, in your flash Art Deco wheely bag Hermaj, I have a wheels bag with owls on it, very cute, which I use for bowls.

Really hungry today, fancy a shepherdess pie with cheesy top.

Sorry, jojo, it’s not a wheely bag (could be that’s what “shopper” means and I used the wrong word). It’s a pick-it-up-and-carry-it bag.

I don’t like wheely bags, they always remind me of lttle old ladies. OK I am one but I don’t want to make it bleed’n’ obvious. 🙂

Anyway, as Ms Dyspraxia of North London, I wouldn’t trust myself not to run over old ladies, small children and low-slung dogs, or trip over it myself. Very sensible for transporting bowls, though. 🙂

Thanks Wee, I’ll check that link out.

Jojo, I’d like to get some professional instruction on dress-making also. Just can’t seem to find the time… I do keep pondering getting a dress-makers dummy, but think the hovering torso might give me nightmares!

    Happy now,
I have a half body under my bed, seriously. It’s never been used for dressmaking. My son bought it for an art project years ago. I keep meaning to use it but never get around to it.

I agree Hermaj, the wheely shopper does have an aged street cred. Personally I have never concerned myself with what people think. I do agree some users need a drivers licence. Same with those mobility vehicles a friend of mine was pinned against a wall in Sainsbouys by an out of control old girl, totally buggered her knees. Shop took no responsibility of course even though the driver had received no instructions for it’s use.

Just had a surprise invitation for dinner so just had some soup to tide my over, wouldn’t last until 7.30 pm.

Are any of you members of the University of the Third Age, a friend is trying to convince me to join.

LOL Jojo ….I have a half body under my bed… I thought you had started to make your ideal man 🙂 . Just about gave me a heart attack lol 🙂

    Enjoy your dinner pal 🙂

    Wee xx

I’ve just lost a really long post Grrr!

I used to sew a lot and make all of my clothes, but got out of the habit. I really enjoyed it and often think I might like to take it up again. I no longer have a sewing machine and am wondering if it is worth investing in a new one. The eyes aren’t as sharp as they used to be either…….

I would love a surprise invitation for dinner, have a good time.

    Bayleaf
    How goes your fasting?

Are you maintaining or still onward and downward?

Thanks jojo! Body parts under your bed… That’s hardly going to help me with the fear 🙂

Don’t worry HappyNow they are only the top half and can’t move without legs lol 🙂

    Weexx

Are you sure about that Wee?

    Smiley

I think it would just have to BUM it’s way around Amazon lol 🙂

    Wee xx

    Stop it Smiley

Still waiting for my dinner, he was held up at work, nothing new about that.

My dress makers dummy does not have a bum, stops at the waist. Honestly you lot!

    Have a fun evening all

    So bloody hungry

    Jojo xx

I’m hungry too, and I’ve had dinner 🙁

If only ………. But it was a koala and he continued for sometime last night……. Oh amazon what is a wet fish shop?

Jojo the one I had years ago had waist and a bum and was adjustable .I wish we could be adjusted as easy . :). Go have a Cadburys highlight wile you are waiting 🙂 …

    Wee xx

emel, It is a shop that sells fresh fish as opposed to fish and chips, and they are few and far between these days with huge supermarkets taking over the high streets and pushing small shops out of business.

It was a very nice piece of fish too, but because I ate so much last night, I’m hungrier than usual today. I’ll just keep drinking water and have an early night.

    Hi
Just woke up and I’m hungry too!
In Aust most fish and chip shops sell fresh fish as well. Shops that sell only raw are usually called fish markets or seafood shops. Vive la difference!
My OH reckons we are all injuring our backs as we are getting carried away with our new bodies 😉 It is also hardly a surprise we are all talkers!!!!!
Bushfire warnings here today. Predicted 40 deg with hot westerly winds (the bad ones for Sydney). Our cooling southerly is due in this evening. Dear OH is uncovering the pool for me now.
    Have a happy evening/day. P

    Morning fellow fasters.

Wow such a lot to catch up on 😀 and so much to ROFL with … Koala’s can be grumpy bums or at least sound that way but apparently the lady ones might just like it and it does seem as though it is mating season for them (as per advert on TV).

Well even after all the excesses I’ve had this week I’ve managed to lose 0.4 kg, roughly one pound, so I’m very happy with that.

Will do ADF all week this week which should counteract any remaining garbage in my system 🙂

As Jojo says it’s like reading a novel the wonderfully fascinating subjects and descriptions given … love it 😛

Need to see to puppies this morning as although not going to be as warm as yesterday it may still be a bit warm for them and I don’t want them getting distressed.

I’ll try to catch up throughout the day (via phone) if I can otherwise as tonight we go out for tea I won’t chat back until tomorrow 😀

    Have a fun fast/non-fast day everyone 😛

Happy Friday fast friend who are and happy weigh in for those who are not.ok some catching up to do
Jojo mr google tells me thats 28.6kg that is a remarkable outcome todate you go girl.Cue Frank Sinatra I did it my way
Nama 7kg in a short time and some change to the sweet tooth and I am too full so i cant eat any more that is control Cue Lionel Ritchie dancing on the ceiling 😆
Emel you have had a big week it would seem ?? awesome wieght loss todate some control over temptation and if I didnt know better there was a slight twang & a cheeky bit of naughtiness in the banter in relation to some rather confronting noises coming from outside your bedroom window Cue Geri Halliwell its raining men 😆
Weemam i have purchased a jar of Bovril and will be sampling as per your suggestion at $5.99 australian it aint cheap but I have full confidence in you and we get what we pay for..
    i will report back
    Have a Happy day people
    Peace
    RT

I went to the supermarket today and picked up some milk and coffee. I knew there was something else but I couldn’t remember what…………………
    Still no Bovril 🙁

I was like that with olives for weeks, Amazon! 🙂

I can live without it but I thought it might make a change on fast days.
I wouldn’t mind but if I had bothered to look in my notebook, it was on my shopping list Smiley

Barely awake and laughing my head off at the comments on here, you lot are all so funny! Between Jojo’s body parts under the bed, Wee’s comments and RT’s serenading us all, now Amazon has taken up bowling too! (And with human heads I might add!). And a ‘wet fish shop’ still makes me think of John Cleese, sorry!
