  • Afternoon all.
Just back from Kew Gardens. We had the best of the day as it has now clouded over. It was a cold but sunny morning, with quite a bit of heat from the sun, one of those days when getting out in the fresh air makes you feel so good! The autumn colours are stunning, and my friend really enjoyed it as she hasn’t been there for several weeks.
We had coffee and cake, so it won’t be a proper fast day for me today, but I’m just going to have a 110 calorie bowl of soup this evening.
My back and hip are a bit sore today, no surprise with all the exercise this week, but much less painful than it has been for a while. I’m going to spend the rest of the day with my feet up, in the company of a good book.

Hi Amazon. The dogs are much better thanks. The vet has had 70% of the test results back and it seems to be nothing sinister. They each have some kind of bug in their gut, which apparently affects 40% of dogs, most of whom don’t have any adverse problems, but he thinks that it may trigger a reaction combined with the food we give them so we may have to introduce a new brand slowly. Will wait for the rest of the results before deciding.

BTW, we had to go to London on Monday, and I thought of you as we drove past the signs to Kew Gardens!

Glad to hear that the dogs are OK. The results also mean that the local vet you saw in Wales did the right thing in the circumstances, and can be trusted in an emergency.

How nice that you thought of me πŸ™‚ Kew is my second home at the moment, I’ve been twice so far this week. I am itching to get out of London, only two weeks and 3lbs to go until Cuba πŸ˜†

My heart goes out to you and your family. Please follow your strong heart.

I know this advice maybe very weak , but I’ll share.
When. Faced with respiratory issues avoid the high spay in the shower that creates the mist.
Facets of all kinds have bacteria when in contact with oxygen. However when were well this is not an issue, but when were deathly I’ll the shower head can put out bacteria we can’t continually fight.

Better to just have a soak . Than to use the bacteria spayer.

Stay your course if you can!
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Morning all, well I only had the 1kg loss this week, exactly 1kg, not the extra couple of hundred grams needed to reach my 10kg goal, well 800g actually, lol, but not even one of them went as well. Nevermind the good ole tape measure helped too πŸ˜€ another 2cm gone (that’s almost another inch) so overall feeling pretty chuffed with myself/life at the mo πŸ˜€

Smiffy glad the fur kids are okay … we only ever introduce a new or changed food slowly to our kids just in case πŸ˜€

Hello to all my fellow posters and any who are unsure if they should post something. My suggestion is if you’re here reading, then post something at least once each week πŸ˜€ even if it’s just hi and a brief update on how you’re going πŸ™‚ ultimately however it’s up to you πŸ˜€

Hiya Aussie it is 6;30 quite cold and miserable ,but cosy inside . Well done on your loss pal . I love how the posts here are always so positive .

    Wee xx

I’ve reported the SPAM by trcktr so hopefully it will be removed soon and the person not allowed to post again. Let’s face it using this WOL these products are NOT needed!! Plus they’re usually scams!

Hi All, just arriving home, been caught in loads of traffic. Good news, my brother in law is holding in there, so we are praying he has the strength to fight. If he beats this I vow to lose 1 stone by Christmas. Thanks for being there everyone. Going to bed early as feeling really ill. Love to all Jojo xx

Hi Aussie – yes, any change in diet is always introduced slowly. I don’t really want to change as they are otherwise fit and in great condition, but will obviously go with the advice if necessary. Great idea for everyone reading this thread to add their bit at least once a week. Come on all!

Amazon – you’re right, it’s exactly what the Welsh vet thought. It seemed a very good practice, so happy to have them on hand down there. You must be getting so excited about Cuba – and all those smaller clothes! Sorry you won’t be in York though….

Weemam – (will you be Weeweemam soon?!) it’s horrible here too – the wind is whistling down the chimney but we’ve got the wood burner going and I have lit some candles to make it cosier. Fast day supper of plaice with prawns and roast veg tonight. Fingers crossed that the scale shows good news tomorrow!

Samm – I think you’ve just put me off showering ever again – and it’s all I ever do!

    Have a good evening/day all.

    Thinking of you Jojo.

    Smiffy x

Feed day for me and I’m ravenous .

    FISH !

Canned skinless salmon and yams with russet potatoes and green beans!
Wife is being very kind to me today!
Dandelion tea and blueberries for snack.

Last fast day tommorow before weigh in on Saturday .

    Evening all.

Cold, windy and wintry here, brrr!

I decided to eat dinner this evening after the earlier cake, and I’ll do a proper fast tomorrow.

Welcome home Jojo, sleep well and I hope you feel better tomorrow X

Smiffy, I’m sorry I won’t be in York too, but I’ll be there next time πŸ˜›
And yes, I’m getting excited about Cuba, but I’ve got a lot going on here that I have to deal with before then, so I need to get organised.
I’m going out tomorrow for a few things I need to buy to take with me, and I’m going to sort out the holiday wardrobe this weekend πŸ™‚

The outside of the house i.e. window frames, sills etc, and doors and porch are being painted next week, so I’ve got to be here on Monday when the painter arrives. I’m going to the tennis World Tour Finals at the O2 on Tuesday and Wednesday and I’ve got lots of other things to do so before I know it I’ll be on the way to Gatwick!

Jojo very stressing to get bad news when you are away i do hope all the powerful and positive thought from your extended family on here can help him and your good self get through this time ok
It is tipped to reach 37 deg today a fast day for me so plenty of fluids and a weigh in the morning have a good Friday Fast Friends
    Peace Love and Happiness

    Smiffy!
We need that bacteria to roughen our immune system. Make it more active than less active.
But when it comes to being Ill in elderly respitory, at the level of well you know!

Then just not to use the jet spray.
    Okay!

All water source is this way. ALL. So the key is not to jet spray it as to propel it into the air.

Also only thing I ever ever EVER heard to improve lung conditioning is breath air saturated in salts dusts.

Most likely doesn’t apply to jojo’s in law though.

    Hi everyone.

Jojo, no need to apologise for feeling down, who wouldn’t? Sending biggest e-hug possible and best wishes for your own and your brother-in-law’s speedy recoveries. As Weemam said, medical people can (almost) perform miracles. Look after yourself.

Nothing much to report, hot day with extreme bushfire risk here. Thinking of you AO, RT and Emel. OH tested the bushfire sprinkler system earlier this week and yesterday brushcut the winter/spring grass. It’s still green but not much more growth unless we get some unusual rain from hereon.

Sorry if it’s a fasting day for anyone but made a second batch of sourdough bread for lunch – much better this time as I left the second rising in the tins for nearly 12 hours before baking. OH tells me that while it’s OK he prefers the bread I make with Laucke’s bread mix in the bread maker! Will persevere until I produce something I consider acceptable because it’s a challenge. Would really like to find a good reference on chemistry of bread baking – so many variables and difficult to work out what influences what. Have at least 6 bread books but all very thin on the technical stuff.

Take care everyone and keep up the good work. Your positive attitudes are worth gold and keep me inspired and focussed. In the immortal words of Jeff Fenech (Australian boxer) I loves youse all!

    Morning Fasttrackers,
After a very rough night I am up and about early. Having my porridge and a nice big cuppa, great to get back to a sensible eating regime. Won’t jump on the scales until Monday when I will have compensated by doing ADF today and Sunday, bonfire party Saturday night – bangers and mash.i am making a chocolate log bonfire cake which I won’t be eating and some Thai soup which I will have. Hope it doesn’t rain.

Very windy last night and lots of rain disturbing what little sleep I was trying to get between coughing and hip pain. A bit fed up but it will not thwart my enthusiasm to get back to 5 – 2.

My brother in law will be having a pacemaker fitted as soon as they stabilise his renal difficulties, so there is light at the end of the tunnel, something for him to focus his fight on and possibly a new and more active life, (after all he is only 58, younger than me). My sister may be able to get some life too, we always undermine the effect of debilitating illnesses on carers. I can’t remember the last time they risked going on holiday. Wee am I know you will understand this well.

Ply – how is it going honey, haven’t seen many posts from you, how far from goal now? We are going in to winter now so I think it will be harder.

Hermaj, sorry for the mix up over the back pain, read whole three days worth of posts in one go, memory not so great obviously. I had better start doing sudoku and crosswords.

Amazon, great achievement friend, very inspiring. Not long to go before Cuba trip. Are you going with a party like me?

Samm, good luck with you weigh in mate. I have faith in your regime.

To everyone else, I have really enjoyed your posts and reading about your successes. Run up to Christmas will be challenging but my holiday has left me with the strength if not the good health to battle on.

    Love jojo xx

    Hi jojo,

Fingers crossed for your brother-in-law. If all goes well this could bizarrely be the beginning of a better life for him and your sister?

Sorry you’ve not come back from your hols feeling hale and hearty. There’s no justice!

You’ve shown that you’re strong and determined though, so I know you can get through all the cr*p life throws at you…and emerge a swan? butterfly? You choose!

Yippee! My ‘lean’ day on Wednesday and my fast day yesterday paid off – another pound gone. One more to reach my 2.5 st loss, which I’m annoyed about, as I thought I only had that pound to go – I thought I was a pound heavier when I started but just found my details. Oh well, at least I’m the lowest I’ve been for 6 years, and plan on getting lower by another 9 lbs and will then take stock. If I’m looking too scrawny I will stop, but ideally would liked to lose another stone. Not too quickly though – as I have said, I want to get some wear out of these hardly-worn clothes that have been sitting in the wardrobe!

Jojo – I’m so glad the news is more positive. A big worry for you, not helped by feeling so rough yourself. Be kind to yourself – maybe not such ridgid fasting for a day of two until you feel better? You know that any excess will come off easily when you feel up to it.

Samm – thanks for that – understood. I did read somewhere that you should let the shower run for a while before getting under it to flush out lurking bacteria, which I do, and I also regularly soak the shower head in a bleach solution.

Hi Nicky – I do hope the weather turns for you, and the other Fastrackers down there. The risk of brushfire must be a constant worry. We could do with some of your heat though – it’s a cold wet day here today, and feels worse after the long warm summer we’ve had.

Amazon – you sound too busy to even eat! It will be lovely once the work is finished on your house though.

Have a good day/night everyone. We’re off to Wales, where the weather is just a bad as here, but at least we will get some good walks in through the forest

    Smiffy x

    Hi everyone

We haven’t heard from hermaj since Monday. Hope she’s OK.

Jojo – wrap up well tomorrow night at the bonfire party. I hope your cough clears up soon. Coughing really takes it out of you but I’ve often found that being outside makes me feel better when I’ve got a nasty cold. Chest infection is another matter entirely though πŸ™

My pregnant daughter has had one cold after another lately. Just 6 weeks to go before her little boy arrives. These are exciting times πŸ™‚

Fasting tomorrow for me. I’m making soup.

    Lizzypb

    Morning all.

Jojo, it’s no surprise you didn’t sleep well with so much going on in your head and feeling unwell. Sorry to hear about the hip pain. Was it the plane ride, or too much dancing πŸ˜‰
Hopefully you’ll sleep better tonight and feel refreshed tomorrow.
Good news regarding your brother in law, once his kidneys are working properly again and he is out of hospital he is a prime candidate for 5:2.

Hermaj has been noticeable by her absence. Let’s hope it is because she is very busy.

I laughed when I read SAMM’s post yesterday, because after months of thinking about it while standing under it, I finally de scaled and cleaned the shower head last week πŸ˜†

After a cold and windy evening followed by overnight rain, I am greeted with a beautiful blue sky and sunshine. Still breezy though, so I expect it is cold out there. FD today and I’ve got a huge list of things to do to keep my mind away from food.

Smiffy, if there was such a thing as being too busy to eat we wouldn’t be talking to each other……………

Hi to everyone else, have a good day/evening.

Hi everyone, Jojo thank goodness there’s some light coming for your sister and brother in law re his health, now you can concentrate on getting yourself well … healing vibes heading your way πŸ˜€

Just back from dinner and even though I left half my mains I still feel stuffed and I just do NOT like that feeling!!! Next time I’ll have to leave more I think.

Had a good evening with friends. Current temp is down to 29C we got to 39 here today and had a strong wind most of the day and that has gone now too. Puppies and fur kids all doing well even with the heat as we keep them as cool as we can. Misting sprays and ceiling fans in the kennels, wet towel for mum and bubs as otherwise babies can get too cold and evaporative air con for the one in the house (just turned it off when I got home as it was too cool for me πŸ˜€ )

He to everyone have a wonderful day/evening and I’ll see you all tomozz πŸ˜€

    Happy Friday Fast Friends

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for your concern I’m OK, just not feeling very chatty, but I have followed events from the sidelines.

jojo, sorry to hear what a difficult time you’ve been having. It’s good that there is somewhat better news about your brother-in-law, but it doesn’t remove much of the anxiety. Fingers crossed he’ll emerge relatively unscathed and that he can be persuaded to follow your example by shifting a lot of weight, thereby improving his chances of recovering his health.

You were all correct in assuming I was busy ‘transalating’ as some people – not the refined ladies and gents on this thread, I hasten to add – call it. Until yesterday I was working flat out

It’s been a fairly typical week in the life of an Arts & Media specialist. The first job I did in the last week was from German, all about Polish film posters under Communism. Rather than accept “sensationalist” Western posters to advertise films made in the West, they designed their own sometimes weird but very striking ones. The second was from Spanish and dealt with Pre-Colombian featherwork textiles in Peru. Both for a glossy magazine issued free to punters who buy a certain band of very posh watches.

Certainly keeps the old brain in gear. πŸ™‚

Hello all, posting from my bed, hot water bottles on feet and hip as trying to avoid more pain killers.
Hip is same old joint issue the experts can’t sort out but probably aggravated by a week of bowling, walking 2 hours daily every pm and dancing 3-4 hrs nightly. I simply cannot sit down when there is a dance floor, I would have to be tied to the chair. I don’t get the chance very often so I can’t miss it.

To cheer myself up I have just ordered the cherry red short leather boots I have been thinking of getting, 20% off too plus free delivery, it was fate. I got a cherry red leather jacket on holiday( in a size too small) but it looks amazing. The turn back cuffs are black, very stylish, high hip length. Knocked him down to 155 euros from 250, not bad haggling eh? He still made a good profit I know the margins for stall traders.

I met a guy on a catamaran trip who runs a stall in Chiswick, he was telling me all about buying and selling antiques. Very interesting – those house clearances sound great. He reckons to make 500 % profit on each one. Hence he can afford his apartment in Bengalmadina, a truly stunning fantasy architectural port next to Torremolinos, 20 minutes from Malaga. I wouldn’t mind being an apprentice to a dealer for a year, I love antiques.

I am on spicy soup only as I am not up to eating, very sore throat, swallowing not pleasant. But I am convinced of the healing powers of spices. I may even make some chicken broth. Michael did some research on the benefits and restorative value of chicken broth I believe. I missed his programme last week so I must check it out on I-player.

I think I will order in food, not up to the supermarket.

Have a good day everyone, special best wishes to Ply and Hermaj who are probably very busy indeed. We can’t all have the luxury of retirement. I think dieting is so much harder when you are working full time. I know I was hopeless at it, too busy to cook, too tired to walk much after work.

    Jojo xx

Hi jojo, hope you’re feeling better.

Hi Hermaj, Glad to hear from you.

Hi RT, thanks for coleslaw recipe link.

Off to sleep now. Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

    Hermaj,
I bet you are useful in a quiz, all those obscure factoids.

Just back from walking the dogs between cloud bursts. Good to force myself out, feel better for it.

Amazon – next time I visit my son in London I will drag him to Kew, sounds lovely.

Bayleaf – I am of the thinking that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, obviously my anti- bodies were ready for some action. Hopefully I will now avoid the Christmas cold that always seems to hit my family.
Very envious of you sleeping soundly.

RT – yes Jamie Oliver has some good recipes. I ate at his Shepherds Bush restaurant a while back, it was delicious, even better when my son picked up the tab, makes a nice change.

Aussie Oma – how long will it take for those vibes to get here, we’re they posted? I reckon at least a week. Ta though honey, they are here in spirit. That reminds me, apparently one of the male bowlers has healing hands, may need to give him a ring although not to sure where he may need to put them for a chest infection. Back perhaps? I don’t think his wife would approve any other parts.

Smithy I agree with Amazon, you are never to busy to eat, you can of course be too busy to exercise. It’s just a question of priorities.

Lizzypobottle- I feel really sorry for your daughter, coughing sucks. I hope she gets well because she won’t have time to be ill after your grandson arrives. Will you be a hands on granny? I will have no such chance since my son and daughter plan to leave the UK for New Zealand and San Fransisco next year. Cyber gran for me. Luckily I have spent the last 25 years looking after other people’s toddlers so I have had more than my fair share, I will survive.

My brother in law is not overweight now, he was 5 stone overweight for most of his life but has lost it all in the last year through I’ll health after a stint was put in a heart valve. I think that is the right word, not very much medical expertise. I should tell you at this point that my friend from bowling club who died last week has just lost 2.5 stone on 5:2, so very sad, she said she was feeling great just before she died of a heart attack in her sleep. She also had a physically and mentally handicapped daughter that she had only just put in an adult care scheme that they were both very happy with. She was just enjoying some ‘me’ time, very short lived. This should be a lesson to us all – live for today.

Happy now – I think I will avoid the butterfly, not very long lived, I think I will emerge as a 30 year old me please, if only! Hold that would mean another 37 years of work, maybe not, I will just stick to the size 12 version of my wrinkly self.

NickyF, I have an Irish friend who has always made her own sourdough bread, want me to have a chat with her? She seems to have it sussed.

Must go, nose will not stop running, off to chase up some more tissues, box 3

jojo, I confess to being a mine of useless information, good at quizzes and general knowledge crosswords. πŸ™‚ Problem is with my job, I might get to be an expert on something if I’m translating a book or an exhibition catalogue on that specific subject. Sadly, once the project is finished I forget the whole lot. Apparently it happens to everyone, even the younger translators.

I also confess to falling short on the exercise when busy. While writing my MA dissertation (still no results!) I didn’t put my nose outside the door for 10 days. πŸ™

It helps a bit that we live in a very weird conversion spread over 4 levels so I do a lot of running up and down stairs. My dyspraxia/ham-fistedness also keeps me fit as I constantly have to bend down to pick up things I’ve dropped or knocked over onto the floor.

I seem to be stuck on another plateau weight-wise, although it’s 6 kilos lower than the previous 5-month-long one. My new policy is, fast or feast day, don’t eat unless you are really, really hungry. Fasting today, I’ve had 3 cups of tea with semi-skimmed and that’s it.

Encouraging but a tad inconvenient, the M&S tarted-up duffel coat I bought last year is now way too large. Looking on the bright side there’ll be a lot of room for layers when it gets colder.

    Afternoon all.
I’ve just been shopping to pick up some things I need for my holiday. I wandered round a couple of clothes shops and was looking at trousers. In my imagination, I bought six pairs, but managed not to turn it into reality as they’ll probably be too big in a few months.
I’ve just had to part with my lovely brown suede jacket that I bought about 25 years ago as I could get someone else in it at the same time as me πŸ™
That does mean that next year I can buy another one πŸ™‚

Everywhere I went people were eating. When I was a child no-one ate in the street, or walked along drinking coffee…………. I was constantly assailed with the smell of fried onions, chips, oriental food, pizza and all manner of things that would have been very welcome to a hungry faster on a cold day. I almost gave in but had a brainwave and bought myself some sushi for dinner this evening to give me something delicious to look forward to.
I’ve had one piece to keep me going until then.

I’ve had one cold since I gave up work. I used to get them all the time and usually ended up with a chest infection. Hospitals are bad for you!

Hi hermaj, glad to hear all is well.

    Hello all.

Jojo you poor chicken, you sound terrible! Three boxes of tissues says it all! Try to rest, your body needs to heal. And I am sorry, I disagree…take the drugs! I know many people try to avoid them, but even just at bedtime surely? You will get a better sleep if you take something going to bed. I usually take paracetamol and codeine if arthritic knees sore … Stronger than just plain paracetamol and the codeine has a sedative effect. Obviously not all the time but this sounds like one of those times.( I avoid anti inflammatories like ibuprofen as they are very hard on the gut – Nurses are big on ‘self medicating’ ) I just think you need to sleep when you are so sick.

Glad you haven’t gone AWOL Hermaj, don’t you overdo it either! Nice to meet another clumsy person….if there is something to drop I will drop it. My son is similar and I tell him that we are special, we have a ‘gift’! I don’t just drop things, I trip over and bump into things too. Lots of injuries gardening, have needed stitches when putting a gardening fork thru a finger and once almost took the end off another one with secateurs.

Had a lovely long walk by the river this morning, followed by big day in the garden at Jamieson. Roses fabulous with their first Spring flush and all the trees looking great. Easier to ignore food when outside on a beautiful day. Not looking forward to Summer though, sounds like it was uncomfortable in SA today, 39 way too hot!

I am glad your puppies are coping with the heat AO, poor Mum! I used to hate visiting neonates at home in the heat, most of them were tiny prems and needed to be kept cool but not too cold!

I better get to bed, almost 2am!

I can’t take anti inflammatories for more than a day as they upset my gut, so my GP prescribed some Voltarol (diclofenac) gel patches which you stick over the painful area. They are effective for 12 hours and worked really well when I had an inflamed and swollen knee. It was back to normal in 48 hours after being sore and swollen for several months.
They are large enough to put on a sore hip or back.

    Hi Nama,

Maybe we should set up Dyspraxics International. Nowadays, kids with poor coordination get help. When I was a kid and right into my teens it was seen as naughtiness and rewarded with a clip round the ear.

I don’t know about you, but by some miracle I have never hurt myself or anyone else through my ham-fistedness and I’ve broken surprisingly few things. Worst injury, a sprained ankle (never broken anything) and I’ve never, ever been hospitalised.

Sadly, my fear of doing damage made me not dare to pick up my beautiful great-nephew when he was very wee. As he spent a lot of time sitting on the big comfy sofa to watch his mum doing her stuff, I was able to sit beside him and stroke his tiny bare feet, which he seemed to like.

    Hi Amazon ,

Let’s hear it for Voltarol, which actually works without our having to ingest nasty substances. Glad you find it helpful, too.

Hermaj I am not sure about an international group! Think it’s too late to retrain me anyway! I mentioned several nasty gardening mishaps involving forks and secateurs, but there were also 3 broken toes as a kid when I kicked my brothers heel instead of the football, plus a broken front tooth being clumsy another time. That was crowned for years but recently had to come out and as it was at the front, I spent a years pay on replacing it with a titanium implant! Fortunately I have never injured anyone else (I think!)

Amazon I agree Voltaren is amazing stuff and use it when osteo in knees flares in hot weather, but only when desperate as I find it so vicious. Don’t think we have patches in Aus, must investigate. Gel available to rub in but doesn’t do much for me, only tablets!

Really going to bed this time! Goodnight.

I had to get refitted for walking , My boots weren’t helping my inner hip/thigh. Especially the combat jump boots. But I needed the ruggedness to be the baddest ass runner in the warehouse to my privilege position. I even get to wield a staff to push product along. I never thought I would could do anything like it.

But my point JoJo is start with proper fitting shoes , use the yoga and stability Bally to strengthen the muscles that support the hip . Then you’ll be in best position to strive forward. Matters not the fat loss if it’s hurting you into submission . Yes?

I had the experience of having to relearn to walk again. It was humbling! What I can share is the wrong shoes cause a lot of pain! After I got the right fit. Then I became strong and free once again!

I don’t run like a gazelle though. Lol . More like a pissed off marine! Hiding behind a smile!

Everyone else in the place wears tennis shoes , but I need the ankle support. Non better than military jump boots! Especially if they fit like slippers when properly fitted. I go through 1 pair every 90 days walking the 4 story cat walks.

    Hi SAMM.

    Well done to you πŸ˜›

I am torturing myself by baking a Christmas cake on a FD. The whole place smells of cake. I must be crazy!

    Hiya everyone .

Jojo I hope you are feeling better now pal and not in as much pain .
Amazon I wouldn’t dare bake on a fast day :p

SAMM you made me smile pal :). Hiya to everyone else .

Had Dad out today . He always makes me smile too . He walks along singing all the time and it is so lovely . It is amazing how many people smile when they hear him sing . He is such a lovely man and brings a little sunshine to everyone’s day .

I am on another FD today and it was a really easy one :)..When I went out today it was really cold and quite miserable but another nurse in Dads care home came up and asked me what diet I was on as ” the weight is just falling off of you” So I came home with a huge smile on my face .

I am now off to send her some links . I love this WOL and all of you my lovely new friends .

    Wee xx

Weemam, I’ve got a lot to do between now and when I go on holiday, and with Christmas coming up I’m trying to get organised so there is no panic when I get back on 5th December. I make cakes for presents so I make one every week at this time of year. This is the last one, and despite being driven mad by the smell, I’m really pleased to have it done. I can pack it away for a month to mature and then decorate it nearer to Christmas.

I was in the queue in Boots the Chemist today and at the till they had chocolate Reindeer filled with Maltesers, rather like the MaltEaster bunnies. I rarely eat milk chocolate but I love them and I picked one up to buy it then remembered that I’m fasting today πŸ˜†

    Amazon,

Raw cake mix is a weakness of mine…. It wouldn’t be the cooking smells for me, it would be the preparation picking πŸ™‚

Fortunately I prefer the finished object.

The one problem I’m having with this WOE is buying too much food. I’ve just done next week’s menu plan and I don’t need to buy anything as there is so much in the fridge. I guess it’ll be easier when I get to maintenance…..

Hello Australia…..South Aussies (Nicky Emel and Aussie O) Victoria (Nama) ACT (Bay) NSW (PVE) and Weemam Amazon Ply Jojo Smiffy SAMM Herm & Hello World (You know Who you Are) I weighed in this morning and down 1.4kg I have been on 2 weeks leave I would normally expect a 1.5kg and 1.4kg a 2.9kg gain in the 2 weeks ready for a return to work Monday and now it’s the reverse..
In Dr Mosely book the suggestion is of a loss of 1lb or (.453g) per fast day if all the stars are aligned the sun is shining & the wind is behind you and going downhill. I am on a 3 day fast and a 4 day feed program so a 1.359kg loss is for me doing the maths a reasonable outcome so 1.4kg that’s bloody scarily accurate for this week. The only real source of knowledge is experience Have a great weekend my fast friends.
    Eat Fast & Live Longer
    RT

Well done SAMM and RT … great to see you’re both losing too πŸ˜€

Jojo hopefully you’re feeling more the thing now and the dreaded lurgy has gone away.

I too would suggest at night to take a pain killer IF needed. OH had a painful back/hip the other day, gave some massage and just after that a pain killer and before he knew it he was sleeping and felt much better in the morning. I don’t advocate tablets all the time as I will not give him one of the stronger ones each day (he’s not needed one since btw) but if it’s needed I will give him ONE (they’re panadeine forte so quite strong).

Off to dog club today for a show (again I’m steno’ing for the judge) so another busy day, just glad it’s not going to be as warm as yesterday (only about 24 today) plus the show should not go too long as there are not a great deal of entries according to my sources, lol πŸ˜€

    Have a great day/evening everyone πŸ˜€

    Hi All,
Sorry to report that it is looking like a serious bug, temperature, swollen glands, full works. Even got a stomach upset. I will take paracetamol before bed, promise. I have tried voltarol patch but it didn’t work because the pain is very deep in the hip joint. So far hot water bottles are the best solution with a leg resting pillow.

Keeping up the fluids but not much else. Off to bed now, I will be off line tomorrow and Sunday.

    Be good everyone.

    Love Jojo xx

Awww jojo take care and keep warm . we will all be here for you when you feel better .

    Wee xx

Hi all, it feels as if it has been a long time since I last posted. I kept up with people’s posts but in the past few days I let that slide as well. Life has been full on and I have not been able to maintain my fasts at all this week so felt rather disappointed in myself but this morning as I started to read I realised that I can do this and will keep on going. Have others here struggled in the first month- the euphoria of this WOL was almost extinguished with the pressures of work and home and I found myself turning back to food— Grrr when will I learn!!

Hiya Emel . You are human and allowed to make mistakes , we all do . That is the beauty of this WOL . You fall off the horse and just get back on . Come in here and we will all help each other along . ..

    Wee xx

Hi Emel, be patient with yourself. I am sure it took a long time for your weight to creep up, so its not going to fall off in a few weeks. If you remember this, it’s easier to look at the big picture and just think of this last week as a blip!

SAMM you are so right about correctly fitted and good quality shoes, they make all the difference. To ankles, knees and hips. Everything needs to be aligned. Congrats on your loss, you are a machine!

RT you are just too good! Fancy losing all that still while out of harness and usual routine.. You are so right, usually a recipe for disaster. So double congrats!

Amazon I think I can smell your cake from here! Your lucky family/friends to receive a home made Xmas cake….Yummm.

Jojo I do hope you feel much better really soon.

Weemam your Dad sounds so gorgeous, the world needs more happy people!

    Emil
Can’t say just how pleased I am with your realization that you Can do this woe WOL over time.

I too felt disappointed on the weeks I couldn’t do it. But I kept on trying, kept changing days to fit my schedule. A year and half later I’m still changing my days and times. But I’m so very feeling empowered!

    @amazon.
My mistakes in the beginning also included buying to much food.
In time I started buying only what I need from a store that delivers.
That way I had a lot more control, and a lot less temptation.
I switched to dried fruits, only because I was having not the best choice of fruits delivered, and the dried fruits lasted much longer. I eat the dried fruits on feed days . As there are many benefits still in the dried fruits.
One in particular . Dried apricot. I wish I could give link , but can’t the reference.
Dried apricot can change the ph score of fats during digestion, so a long as not eaten with cold water drinks. The benefit is it supposed to alter fat chemistry in way that is doesn’t create plaques that stick to aertery wall. So it’s a way to intake meat fats without as high risk of heart disease.
So I keep the dried apricots on the delivery list, and when I eat steak or chicken. I eat the apricots as the dessert. I’ve been experimenting with them too. Trying to put them in dips and hummus. Not found the right combination yet. But I keep trying.

    @jojo
Recently you were inspired by scientific progress with connecting spinal Injury tissue. I right there with you believing it should be funded fully as it could make a lot of folks quality of dramatically improved.

Sharing something that inspired me. I watched a Soldier with his hands blown off using robotic hands. What was inspiring was he was using a smart phone to record movements. He was able to use voice commands to the phone that directed the movements of the fingers to pick a dime up off a table.
To cook and turn pages. I was truly inspired.

I’m going to keep on with 4:3 through till thanksgiving end of this month.
    Then take a planned break.
Thing is I don’t feel I need the break as feel accustomed to this woe wol now. But , will use the free time explore what I’m missing. And hopefully focus more on healing and cleansing foods that are not low calories. As I’ll use the many TDEE days to help make my feed days just as beneficial as my fast days.
Trying my best to decide to commit to that approach rather than just hoping.
To be honest I just don’t feel I have enough meals in my “enjoy” list.
I do however like turkey and cranberries. With sweet potato and green beans.
Silly me! Talking myself into a hunger . He he he.

Ok , going for a duration jumperope session , it’s cold outside tonite, I like to jump in the cold air, as Im comfortable in the sweat pants and shirts. That help when I miss and the rope beads whip me.
I feel up to lifting this weekend too. I’m trying to get to 300lb bench press. . When deliver my after picture I want it to be of me lifting my start weight over head. 274lbs. That’s just a silly frivolous goal I have. But a very motivating mark to strive for.

    Good luck fast trackers!

I enjoyed this simple to read Β pages on the subject of immune system and the GI tract.

I recommend reading it when we get the opportunity.

    Here’s a passage.

    —-
Maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal barrier is essential for optimal immune function.

Of the physical barriers between your internal organs and the outside world, your gastrointestinal tract is of primary importance. The gastrointestinal tract is like an internal skin, but it has about 150 times more surface than does your outside skin. It also contains the largest number of immune cells of your whole body, constituting approximately 60% of your entire immune system.

It may be surprising that the gastrointestinal tract has more of your immune system localized within it than any other organ in your body; however, it has a very difficult role. Your gastrointestinal tract comes into contact with the largest amount and number of different molecules and organisms of any organ in your whole body. Just as an example, the average person ingests more than 25 tons of food over his or her lifetime.

And, unlike your skin or even your lungs, your gastrointestinal tract must figure out how to keep out damaging molecules and pathogenic organisms, while still letting in the nutrients and food components your body needs to survive. So, it has to be selective in its protection. The gastrointestinal mucosal layer has the unique role of keeping out damaging molecules and organisms, like harmful bacteria and viruses, while allowing in only the health-promoting nutrients, molecules and substances. In a perfect scenario, only the beneficial nutrients and phytonutrients are absorbed into the body, while non-beneficial substances and organisms never make it across this barrier and are excreted from your body.

The foods you eat can provide support for this barrier or cause damage to it. For instance, alcohol consumption is known to irritate the gastric (stomach) mucosal barrier. Some drugs, for example, the non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen, also can harm this barrier. Many nutrients in the World’s Healthiest Foods help to support a healthy barrier. Foods that are high in phosphatidylcholine or its precursor, choline, are particularly beneficial in supporting a healthy gastrointestinal barrier since phosphatidylcholine is one of the components of the protective mucosa that lines your intestinal tract and provides the first barrier defense. Studies have shown that diets low in choline result in low levels of phosphatidylcholine.
