I’d love to know how to do the animated emoticons in here, I know in several other arena’s but they don’t seem to work here … Wicken I see you have some, would you be willing or able to share? Cheers AO xx

Got it in one, Happy. I hesitated to mention your name. I’m very glad you asked. One remark was that you and I (by name) had got off lightly. I’m still not sure what either one of us did to provoke this sort of attack, either back then or mre recently. Most of the ones removed were telling me what an evil bugger I was. OK, I’m like Marmite, something people love or hate. BTW, Aussie friends do they say that about Vegamite?
Thank you to everyone else for your words of encouragement. SAMM, as far as I can remember, you’ve never put a foot wrong. Not only are you a mine of useful information, you are also editor-in-chief of the Bumper Fun Book! What more could we ask of you?
Hermaj – We’re happy little Vegemites as bright as bright can be, we all enjoy our Vegemite for breakfast lunch and tea … lol … my OH (from Holland) calls it Axle Grease, lol but I do enjoy it … sort of like solidified Bovril for want of a better description (I didn’t like Marmite as much when I lived in England but did eat it, there’s a different taste to Vegemite much more similar to Bovril IMO).
Ooooh speaking of Bovril I might just have a cup of it now to last me until lunch 🙂
wicken and wee,
Whoops! I do apologise for confusing you two proud grandmothers. It’s wicken who has the footy-playing granddaughter, which os great to hear.
Same question: has she or have you ever watched Bend It Like Beckham? It’s one of those small scale, beautifully acted, British films, which she would identify with and which the rest of the family would almost certainly enjoy.
Forgot to add, Happy. It was bullying for sure. In my book being accused of bullying – which we both were – amounts to being bullied. Also being asked if I realised what ‘a nasty piece of work’ I am, that also qualifies as bullying. Thankfully the bullying on this forum is pretty minimal, which is why it is such a shock when it happens. Anyway, I’m off to my pit. Sleep well. 🙂
Green tea. Is the best step forward. For belly fat. Increase muscle mass-and increased metabolism when sleeping .
I’ll read up on it . But rather than exercise. it’s the musculature of posture. Or Callanetics . When posture is fully comp, tee and still have the visceral fat. The only other experimental alternative is to use infra Red , but the same conditions have to be met as regular diet and exercise with addition infra red treatments on top of the diet and exer ise. Just speeding up what’s already occurring , make sense?
My opinion is the amount of target fat in the belly region is not significantly enough to warrant the targeting though. That wasn’t clear. Yes you can target fat. But it’s like you need to be in state of realeaseing fat already, so you out a six month diet you lose 1 extra lb in the target area. Of coure morbid obese may benefit much greater, but if you’re under 200lbs it’s not going to make drastic difference.
You may discover that increasing your metabolism while sleeping may do just as well. Rather than targeting the belly fat. It’s om my agenda of things to read and find out current understandings.
So caffeine. Interfere with rem sleep, but green tea has just the right amount to keep the metabolism in gear. If you know what I mean. Aldo in that path is wake the metabolism up as early as possible . Put an irritant like a coffee or Lima bean , or a single hot pepper that is just irritating enough to the bowels the the digestive system goes to work to expell it as soon as possible.
Also try the pineapple diet. Periodically.
And as I point to it often – Know your probiotic health!
If you can understand how the gut works, it takes the mystery out health food, but importantly exposes the area of our bodies that the most health factors and risk exists.

Hi Samm
Thanks. I will try the green tea, plus I will have my coffee first thing. Have noticed that coffee has a wake up effect on the digestive system when drunk on an empty stomach. Thanks for your help. I will let you know how I go.
I weigh 60 kg and estimate the belly fat is about 1 kg.
Cheers to all. Bay 🙂
I suspect you right about sugar bayleafoz
There is no requirement for carbohydrates. None!
However the human condition is not to lose weight. It is to maintain weight.
So if youve gained excess fat. My best advice is to learn how fat cells work on the cellular level. They don’t burn fat, they release it. The othe cells that need it burn it. Understanding HIIT and fasting in combination with weight loss foods. May be better fat loss puzzle pieces than just calorie restriction alone.
Something else is to eat fat soluble foods so that as it passes through it becomes a vehicle to help pass it out through fecal matter. Not a lot, but as my experience is unless I’m on starvation diet . I don’t lose fat everyday. So. It’s best to use as many fat loss combinations as possible. So please consider soluble fiber in the diet when large amounts of cholestrols have released from fat cells.
http://commonsensehealth.com/soluble-fiber-insoluble-fiber-foods-list/
Here also fruits are higher calorie so works against 5:2 . In this case I may chose to eat the fruits on feed days with exercise. And HIIT exercise on days where I’ve eaten a lot of fat in the food.
Do you have perfect posture? If not. Start there. I can’t ask you to trust me, but I’ll just ask you to start there as there is typically a a size or two lost on poor posture. And yes you can have great strong abs just like a body builder but also have 3-4 inches of on top of it.

Shrinking Fat Cells
“The Incredible Shrinking Fat Cell”…
What Really Happens When Body Fat is Burned?
By Tom Venuto, NSCA-CPT, CSCS
http://www.BurnTheFat.com
Earlier this week someone in our discussion forum wrote, “I haven’t “LOST” any fat… I know EXACTLY where it went! I got a chuckle out of that because I “got” the joke, but truth is, most people really don’t know how fat cells work, how the fat burning process takes place or where the fat goes when it’s burned. It’s actually quite a complex biochemical process, but I’ll explain it as simply as possible, so by the end of this article, you’ll be a “fat burning” expert!
When you “lose” body fat, the fat cell (also called an adipocyte) does not go anywhere or “move into the muscle cell to be burned. The fat cell itself, (unfortunately) stays right where it was – under the skin in your thighs, stomach, hips, arms, etc., and on top of the muscles – which is why you can’t see muscle “definition” when your body fat is high.
Fat is stored inside the fat cell in the form of triaglycerol. The fat is not burned right there in the fat cell, it must be liberated from the fat cell through somewhat complex hormonal/enzymatic pathways. When stimulated to do so, the fat cell simply releases its contents (triaglycerol) into the bloodstream as free fatty acids (FFA’s), and they are transported through the blood to the tissues where the energy is needed.
A typical young male adult stores about 60,000 to 100,000 calories of energy in body fat cells. What triggers the release of all these stored fatty acids from the fat cell? Simple: When your body needs energy because you’re consuming fewer calories than you are burning (an energy deficit), then your body releases hormones and enzymes that signal your fat cells to release your fat reserves instead of keeping them in storage.
For stored fat to be liberated from the fat cell, hydrolysis (lipolysis or fat breakdown), splits the molecule of triaglycerol into glycerol and three fatty acids. An important enzyme called hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) is the catalyst for this reaction. The stored fat (energy) gets released into the bloodstream as FFA’s and they are shuttled off to the muscles where the energy is needed. As blood flow increases to the active muscles, more FFA’s are delivered to the muscles that need them.
An important enzyme called lipoprotein lipase (LPL), then helps the FFA’s get inside the mitochondria of the muscle cell, where the FFA’s can be burned for energy. If you’ve ever taken a biology class, then you’ve probably heard of the mitochondria. This is the “cellular powerhouse” where energy production takes place and this is where the FFA’s go to be burned for energy.
When the FFA’s are released from the fat cell, the fat cell shrinks and that’s why you look leaner when you lose body fat – because the fat cell is now smaller. A small or “empty” fat cell is what you’re after if you want the lean, defined look.
It was once believed that the number of fat cells could not increase after adulthood, only the size of the fat cells could increase (or decrease). We now know that fat cells can indeed increase both in size (hypertrophy) and in number (hyperplasia) and that they are more likely to increase in number at certain times and under certain circumstances, such as 1) during late childhood and early puberty, 2) During pregnancy, and 3) During adulthood when extreme amounts of weight are gained
Some people are genetically predisposed to have more fat cells than others and women have more fat cells than men. An infant usually has about 5 – 6 billion fat cells. This number increases during early childhood and puberty, and a healthy adult with normal body composition has about 25 to 30 billion fat cells. A typical overweight adult has around 75 billion fat cells. But in the case of severe obesity, this number can be as high as 250 to 300 billion!
The average size (weight) of an adult fat cell is about 0.6 micrograms, but they can vary in size from 0.2 micograms to 0.9 micrograms. An overweight person’s fat cells can be up to three times larger than a person with ideal body composition.
Remember, body fat is basically just a reserve source of energy and fat cells are the like the storage tanks. Unlike a gas tank in your car which is fixed in size, however, fat cells can expand or shrink in size depending on how “filled” they are.
Picture a balloon that is not inflated: It’s tiny when not filled with air – maybe the size of your thumb. When you blow it up with air, it can expand 10 or 12 times it’s normal size, because it simply fills up. That’s what happens to fat cells: They start as nearly empty fat storage “tanks” (when you are lean), and when energy intake exceeds your needs, your fat cells “fill up” and “stretch out” like balloons filling up with jelly (not a pretty picture, is it?)
So you don’t actually “lose” fat cells, you “shrink” or “empty out” fat cells.
Take-home lessons:
1. Calories count! The signal that triggers your body to release adipose from fat cells is an energy deficit… you have to burn more than you eat.
2. Cut calories conservatively. Starving yourself may cause quick weightloss at first, but never works long term because it actually decreases the activity of fat burning enzymes that release fat from the cells. to avoid this “starvation mode” use exercise to BURN THE FAT, not very low calorie crash diets.
3. Get control of your weight now. If you are gaining weight, and especially if your weight is climbing upwards out of control, make a decision to STOP RIGHT NOW. Your fat cells might be multiplying, making it more difficult to burn fat in the future. NOW is the time!
4. If you’ve already lost weight, you must be forever diligent. Your fat cells are not gone, they have merely “shrunk” or “emptied out.” Fitness is not a 12 week program, its a lifestyle. To stay lean you have to eat clean and stay active
5. Genetics are only a minor factor. You may not have control over how many fat cells you were born with, but you do control the major factors that determine how much fat you store: lifestyle, exercise, nutrition, mental attitude.
Genetics are not an excuse. The past is not an excuse. Your present condition is not an excuse. You can either make excuses or get results, but you can’t do both.
So keep educating yourself about the science, read these newsletters, take action every day and go out there and make it happen!

Ok getting hungry.
So I’m going to bed :p
Hopefully I’ll just roll around in bed hungry for the next 16 hours to make to 60 hours on 1,200 cals
Oh. , I also bought those micro wave onion thingys on clearance for the vidaila onion at 50cents each . I bout all 12 they had. They cook apples to perfecton. By turning the water in vegtables into steam and trapping the steam in the onion shape so I only have to cook an apple I. The microwave for 99seconds and add my own stevia and cinnamon . And omg. Me so Happy!
Will be experimenting with apples tommorrow ! As it’s a vitamin focus day after the b2b
Seems like a lotta effort , but this way I can work long shifts of walking all night long have a 3000 calorie restriction, and Friday & Saturday 600 cal dinners , but Sundays free .
Hi fast tracking mates.
So many posts …
Firstly Mr & Mrs W x2, congratulations on wedding anniversaries.
SAMM, most interesting about fat cells. Must keep on working to shrink mine!
Everyone else, well done on weight losses. Sunday is my re-focus day and you all inspire me yet again to get ready for my Mon-Tu FDs and (mostly) controlled eating for the rest of the week.
Thank you also everyone for such uplifting posts. Sorry to hear there has been a minor recurrence of ‘awful August’ but that’s (again) in the past. Jojo, good advice to put it behind us and move on to that ‘bright upland’ of healthy eating leading to healthy bodies via the IF WOL.
Keep up the good work all.
JoJo
The fasting diet tha micheal mosely presents is actually spot on. Not that I have any street cred, but when I say spot on I mean spot on.
Perhaps not laser the fat cells , but use the body natural mechanisms to slow igf1 . Which turn off cell replication and turns to cell DNA repair.
It’s just that laser is so invasive 1 in 1000 die during the procedure so I try my best not to even discuss liposuction in favor of employing my belly fat into a way to fast more effectively. Yes belly fat is unattractive , but it’s actually more beneficial than harmful at normal ratios.
It’s the visceral fat that is causing the shortened life spans. The fat around the organs. Use HIIT to target visceral fat. Use metabolism counting to subcutaneous fats , and increase neat to maintain fat loss.
The two videos of micheals.
The truth about exercise & eat, fast, live longer . Is all that is needed to understand the scope .
Then it’s a matter of finding what is doable enough to practice as long term lifestyle.
For me personally , My belly fat loss is the side effect of a deeper health agenda to engage in increasing my lifespan. The mice studies suggest that even middle age reduction of visceral fat increases longevity.
So for me it’s bring on the fish and the omega3 and say good bye to wheat and sugar, and food stuffs that harm my digestive system.
Jumping wether it’s on a trampoline, on a stability ball, rope, or jumping jacks , but also either compound lifting or kettle ball as weight bearing .
However I don’t just stop there , I go further into the other risks of death.
I try to observe the accidental risks, preventable risks, and age related risk , and further more a long hard look at how to fight cancer all along.
So the two best suggestions if I can only choose two to increase my longevity.
Top two Eggs and jumprope.
Other Top 12 in no particular order.
Walking 10,000 steps, compound lifting, DHA, gluten free, ADF, Probiotics, antioxidants, perfect sleep, eating fish twice weekly, 19.5/4.5, cancer prevention foods and Detoxify.
Worst 4 smoking, drinking, poor diet, lack of exercise.
It takes practice to get it all in but all these can be part of everyday living.
The biggest reason I believe I haven’t come to it sooner , is because it’s so easy to ignore positive affirmations and goto the grocery and buy a lot comfort carbs and put off for tommorrow when I should keep on keepin on.
JoJo. It’s so hard to watch loved ones pass, I’m no doctor , but see it in hindsight it’s the luck of their lifestyles mostly to blame for passing so young. It not only breaks my heart, but wakes me up too.
Hi Nicky, glad you’re able to gain your refocus here … it’s an important tool for you (and many of us too).
SAMM great info once again … glad we have you in this thread 😀
Struggling a little today but hanging strong so far. Had a little pot set yoghurt earlier (2 1/2 dessert spoons of it) plus OH brought back a BBQ’d chicken for our girl who’s due to whelp in 3 weeks and has gone off her food. I had to shred it all off the bones for her (no cooked bones for our kids as they splinter and can kill) and seeing the lovely leg meat was too tempting so I had ONE piece of leg meat (about 50g) and have felt guilty ever since and wanting to snack (which is unusual for me) so I’m being kind to myself and not eating/snacking but am not going to be upset with myself as it’s okay with this WOL to eat anything, anytime but in moderation and I did that 😀 (this is my mindset anyway for today) and as I was just under 800 cals yesterday I’m not going to be concerned as with all I’ve eaten I’ve only gone 12 cals over 1200 today (I checked and this will be correct provided I don’t overeat one item for dinner/tea)
Morning all.
Another bright and sunny morning.
Goodness me, the thread has been bust since I last posted. More fascinating information from SAMM. Thanks.
Another 1lb gone, and I weighed after a feed day!
That is 17lbs gone, 41 in total and 36ish to go.
Another FD today. I’m going to roast veggies with North African spices and chilli and have them with some of the leftover chicken, and make a cottage pie type dish with chicken and root veg topping for tomorrow plus freezer portions while I am in domestic goddess mood. I’m making stock with the bones and the smell is driving me mad.
Happy Sunday everyone.
Thanks AO.
I almost feel that it shouldn’t be happening because this WOE is so much easier than anything else I’ve tried, it isn’t like being on a diet. I don’t think I would have done so well this time without those who contribute to this thread. It is great that we all support and encourage each other.
I’m into smaller underwear today, it was getting obvious even when fully dressed that the bras were too big 😆
I’m due for a BP check soon and I’m hoping it has dropped further. and I’m thinking of coming off the statins for 3 months to see what my cholesterol level is. It would be great to no longer need medication.
Good morning all
I haven’t had chance to visit here for a few days, so am spending a lot of time catching up. So much has been happening!
Jojo – I appreciate your comments about reference the unfortunate incidents that resulted in several of us joining your thread but may I just say how sad I was to read that it had all been dragged out again. Hermaj was in no way responsible and in fact her only ‘crime’ was to defend me against a verbal attack following a totally innocuous remark which I had made saying how regrettable it was that there was such disharmony. Likewise Happy. It was all very unfortunate and we were mature enough to draw a line under it and move on to this thread.
Sorry Jojo – it had to be said (and I will mention it no more), as there are people on this thread who will have no idea what happened, and I didn’t want anyone to think we are three witches!
As Hermaj has said, every cloud….etc and as a result we have ended up amongst this lovely bunch of friends who are more focused on supporting each other and achieving their own personal goals than to upset each other with silly and unnecessary remarks.
Happy anniversaries Wicken and Wee. Have great celebrations, guilt-free.
Talking of celebrations, we went to an evening ‘do’ last night, as a second cousin of OH had got married. I wore a little black dress with ‘secret support’, a wide patent belt and a long gold chain necklace. I got lots of compliments – even from OH who isn’t usually one to enthuse about such things. What I didn’t tell them was that I had borrowed the dress and necklace from my 88 year old mother! She had bought it to wear last Christmas but for some reason didn’t and it has been hanging in her wardrobe ever since. I offered to buy it from her but she says now she has seen it look so good on me she is going to keep it and wear herself this Christmas!
Jojo – well done on losing the holiday excess and more. It’s great to read how focused you are, and it is paying off.
I was very interested to read Samm’s piece on affirmation and visualisation. Almost 20 years ago I bought a book called ‘Creative Visualisation’ by Shakti Garwain. It was very simply written and easy to understand, and I truly believe that by following her guidance I changed my life for the better in many ways. Like the Callanetics, I kind of forgot about the whole process over the years, so maybe resurrecting it will help with the current battle, though I do seem to be winning quite happily at the moment.
Have a great day everyone – Aussie. Nicky, Bayleaf, Amazon and anyone else I may not have mentioned. Still catching up on the thread!
Smiffy x
Good morning everyone .WOW!!! loads of posts to read this morning .
I am trying to do back to back again . Yesterday was a breeze and only 250 calories . today is exactly the same food so I will see how it goes . We have Dad today and taking him to Poundland (dollar store) . He adores that shop and we get some great buys .
Amazon I know where you are coming from with underwear . I felt all day yesterday as if I had a nappy on (sorry if TMI lol ) but it was my knickers all bunching up because they are miles too big .I was smiling to myself all night after that lol .
SAMM you are advice AND your jokes are great .
Our youngest granddaughter was really into football when she was 14 too she hoped to make a career out of it at the time . She was a right tomboy and was always in sweats and trainers . She is now almost 21 and wears such gorgeous modern clothes with Great big heels .
I wish I could put a picture up here . My granddaughters are almost 6 feet tall ,very slim and gorgeous . I got a picture taken with them when I was around a size 22/24 . I am in the middle of them and I look so tiny but so wide too lol( about 5 feet 10 ) I have shrunk lol .
I just love this thread and I love the way we all keep each other going .
It will be tuna, lettuce .one spoon of Helmans for me and a cup of marigold bullion AND gallons of water .
have a great day everyone …
Wee xx
Hermaj – glad you liked the Chicken Basque. It’s one of my all time favourites, and although there are lots of ingredients, they can all be prepared well in advance so it takes very little time to put it together. I hadn’t thought about adding anchovies, but that sounds really good. I will give it a try next time.
Jojo – the flavours are so good, it would lend itself well to being a vegetarian dish if you leave out the chicken and use veg stock.
I’m also a book addict, though like Hermaj, most are now ebooks on Kindle. I only wish I had more time to read – it’s usually when I go to bed and inevitably I fall asleep after a few paragraphs. I’ve been reading my current book for about 6 months! It’s a crime thriller and I have to keep going back to remind myself what has happened!
Weemam, I am just about to throw out a huge pile of underwear that I’m either falling out of or is falling down. I have lots of smaller stuff that I’ve not been able to wear for nearly 11 years, and it is almost new as it only fitted me for a couple of months because I had already started eating myself back to enormous when I bought it!
Recycling centres and charity shops across the world should be thanking Michael and Mimi!
Hi Amazon
I agree re the charity shops. Have found more huge clothes to dispose of. 🙂 I have thrown away underwear, or turned them into polishing cloths, plus have to give away to the charity shops two lovely pairs of long shorts that have hardly been worn. I bought them in May when I had lost a lot of weight. It turns out that my shape keeps on changing even on maintenance. And the size 12 shorts now fall off me when done up. 🙂
Cheers to Hermaj, Smiffy, Wee, JoJo, AO, SAMM, and all.
Wherefore art thou, Purple? Sleep well, Bay 🙂
Hi bay, thanks, that is good to know.
I’ve been on statins for quite some time and it takes three months without them to get an accurate assessment of cholesterol level, so I’m considering stopping and then having a test. I know a fair amount regarding the pros and cons and know that stopping for three months isn’t going to cause any health issues. If after losing lots of weight by fasting the result is within normal limits I’ll have a chat to my doctor before making a decision. I think it is likely to be normal. I doubt that I’ll be off the BP medication though, but it has decreased since I lost weight.
I’m making chicken and butternut squash tagine now. That little chook has gone a long way!
The freezer will be packed so full of 350 calorie dinners there won’t be room for anything else!
Hi Amazon
Re the BP meds, I have reduced mine by one third. Haven’t yet tried to reduce further. My doctor is quite supportive and indicated that I could cut them in half and see how that goes. Might try. Purple has reduced her BP meds to nil, which is pretty amazing. 🙂 great role model.
Good luck with whatever you decide re statins. Chicken and butternut squash tagine sounds wonderful. We had chili and garlic prawns for dinner, together with greens. Yummy! My garden has produced rocket for salad already. Looking forward to more produce in Summer. 😆
Cheers, Bay 🙂
Oh the absolute joy of hot dark chocolate oat meal this morning after the b2b fast. Put some dried cherries and walnuts too.
The thing I found to funniest about clothes no longer fitting. Is have to run around all day holding my pants up. And occasionally showing my ass in underwear. How embarrassing .
weighed in today at 216 im chiffed with losing 1 lb more . So over four weeks ive lost 4 lbs .
so the plateau is moving the scale. Very glad with a month with five weeks in it to lose 5 lbs or more.
im so glad to hear about other losing as jojo and I have. Keep on keepin on!
Ill be taking a month break from thanks giving day till new years. But ill still be on health focus . Mainly body building and more focus on core strength as my arm and legs are able to recover from working in warehouse . But I do get fatigued come friday. So ill be focusing on that.
I cant stress enough the roleprotein on both fasting ans bodybuilding . They are two very different approaches . So ive switched to a scheduling where I fast for 12 days ADF then5:2 b2b startingafter last lunch of the work week. . So I can focus on increasing my muscle mass.
Only reason I spell it out like this is because ive passed my most weight loss ever barrier.
Im hoping to get to 200 by thanks giving so I may go all in ADF TILL thanks giving., but I may just stick with whats working. Scales be dammed. I havent been 200lbs in 15 years. But ive never felt so healthy either.
Is anyone else like me
in that I reconfigure my bmr and tdee every ten lbs.
Chicken legs in the crock pot. With carrots.potatos celry and onions. Chicken legs soup yummy
Love the positive affirmations! That is one of our lessons in Girls on the Run, along with no negative self-talk, finding quiet time every day, and of course, exercise! Hopefully planting the seeds for a lifetime of healthy habits.
Laughing at the undies talk. Became a problem for me in the spring and summer wearing skirts because my undies would be falling down!
Jojo, here is a recipe for the spiralizer that I think you might like: Fall Harvest Squash and Lentil Pilaf. Google the name, I know you avoid links. By the way, I recommend Ottolenghi’s Plenty as your next cookbook purchase! xox
First of all thanks to all those kind people on this thread who assured me I was not the spawn of Satan.
There was however one criticism levelled at me that might possibly be justified, i.e my ‘relentless boasting’ about myself. Could it be true? If so, please, please tell me.
Yes, I share successes with you, my friends. I also share disasters. Fellow posters put up with my five months of constant whingeing when the so-and-so scales refuse to shift. I might tell an story – happy or sad – that strikes a chord with one or more cyber buddies who have also been there and done that. Is that boasting?
We all recount the laudable things our other halves, kids, grandkids, parents and other rellies are doing or have achieved. Is that boasting? We also have the odd moan about those same people.
Some of my so-called ‘boasting’ is based on a long-held belief from childhood that I was a bone-idle, half-witted, waste of space, despite which I have, somewhat belatedly, been able to prove this is untrue and I have to tell someone.
Enough said. But seriously I would like to know if I’m so far up myself that I’ve become objectionable. I genuinely respect your opinions and if necessary will shut up. 🙂
Oh SAMM.
I’m still giggling at your reference to showing your ass in your underwear. I thought that for some – usually teenage – guys, this was a fashion statement. So glad it’s happening to you as statement of how brilliantly you have done with losing weight.
All I’d say is if your trousers are falling down, be sure not trip over them if the legs are dangling on the floor. 😉
Hi Hermaj
No you are not wrong in your analysis of yourself, but of course these threads don’t need to be read if we don’t want to. As far as what happened on the LOACA thread, I didn’t quite understand what was going on. The words were there, but I didn’t understand the nuances behind. Cultural maybe?
Your life is interesting and I learn quite a lot about you and the UK, a country I have never lived in. You look at yourself with a certain amount of humour and this is good. One can get a fairly good picture of you from your contributions. Do you want that?
But it did occur to me yesterday that if you want to remain anonymous, the detail you give could make you traceable. When you are a NZer as I am, you realise what it is to live in a country which is just a large city and you must be discrete on this kind of thread.
Don’t get downhearted, we all need each other here to attain our goals.

I haven’t know you very long but in my view, first impressions are memorable.
I have found you to be kind; encouraging; honest; straight talking; witty; perceptive.
To be honest, one needs to be mature enough to accept that everyone is different and one will not necessarily like what everyone says. One is in no way obliged to respond. There are choices to be made.
Samm
When is Thanksgiving? Are you in Canada or the US? I am at about the same weight as you, I will see if I can match you on 200lbs (I measure in kilos = 90kg).
That will be a breakthrough for me as I will be out of the obese category and into the overweight.
Yes your picture of holding up your pants is funny. I was mentioning this the other day
The fmous book; “Falling Pants” by Lucy Lastic – obviously your autobiography!

bayleaf – I’ve only just seen your interesting analysis of how things may have gone pear-shaped, i.e. the negativity started when people exchanged ideas about low-carb eating.
In fact my final post before the debacle was on precisely that subject, the gist being if it worked for me it might work for you to, said in a friendly and encouraging manner. I may even have ended with one of these. 🙂
Tartan lass, I don’t think I thanked you personally for your kind response. It’s very sweet of you. Question: whereabouts in Scotland do you live? For all sorts of reasons and because of many happy experiences involving lovely people, I have a very soft spot for all things Scottish.
Hello again .
Just back from taking Dad out . I took the trousers and jumpers ( sweaters) I bought him yesterday and he thought he was so handsome ( His words lol ) that he was keeping one of them on 🙂 .
Well!! It is 4:30 and not had a thing yet so looks like my BTB is successful:).
I now have a huge put of home made bolognese on the cooker and it smells great . I portion it all up and freeze it .It SMELLS wonderful . I have it with Vegetables .
SAMM I love the trousers story lol . You are doing so well pal . You are ALL doing so well .
I got another compliment today ,was told I was looking “so neat” loving it 🙂 .
I love EVERY-ONES stories and I look forward to them every day .
Thanks Jojo for such a great thread .
Wee xx
Afternoon all.
I am sooooo hungry, but like Weemam haven’t eaten yet so can class today as a successful FD. I’ve just put my dinner in the oven and am now making the difficult choice between continue lying on the sofa listening to music until my dinner is cooked, or do the ironing……………
Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November (I think), so it will be on 27th this year.
Nice one lizzy. Thanks for the ear-to-ear grin I’m currently sporting.
Tangatawiwi, thank you for your reasuring words. I think it’s safe to say that what you see on the forum is really me. 99% of posters are intelligent, interesting, good-natured, tolerant, generous and often witty, funny people in whose company I feel at home. Sadly, it takes a single nutter to call me ‘a nasty piece of work’ to make me wonder if I’ve got it all wrong.
wicken, thank you, too. Just the sort of wise, no-nonsense but kind and generous reaction I would expect from you, even after such a short acquaintance. Sadly, straight-talking and wit doesn’t go down too well with some.
Sorry about the granddaughter snarl-up. There were so many double-yous celebrating yesterday I got the wrong one. It’s great that your young one has access to women’s football. Was it through school, or maybe a sports club that she found her way into it?
Hermaj
It was through a Sports Club She’s been playing since she was 6 years old. She now plays for a Club where they only accept the best. They have assessments every term. Her Mother, who is a single Parent, deserves HUGE credit for all the encouragement she gives her. Also for never having time for herself at weekends as she willingly ferries G/Daughter to matches both Saturdays AND Sundays ( when she plays for a local team) My daughter is an absolutely wonderful Mother. Encouraging and wise beyond words. She’s also a wonderful daughter to us. This despite having a hugely demanding and stressful job.
G/Daughter is also a Junior Blackbelt in Karate. No couch potato!
We’ve had a lovely day today. Went straight from Church to the Chinese Restaurant where we had a lovely lunch. I didn’t even think about calories!
It isn’t easy to ignore what others say about one. Nor to steer a straight course through it all. At the end of the day we are not responsible to any of these people.
“The Guest House”
“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honourably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.”

Hi Hermaj,
Re: being boastful. A while ago, on another thread, there did seem to be a culture of not celebrating success too much, because not everyone was similarly successful and fortunate. It seemed quite controlling and made me think of Animal Farm…! And I know I was criticized for being too full of myself.
But you know what? I’m delighted to have lost 30ish lbs so easily. And I’m thrilled that I’ve been easily maintaining my new weight for several months now. And I’m happy to say that I look good in my clothes now (and some of them are even a size 8!). And I feel fantastic on a daily basis. Maybe I’ve been lucky, maybe it won’t last, but I am not going to apologize for having lost weight. I’m going to revel in it!
Boast over… For now!
Hi jojo,
Rest assured, I ain’t going there no more. I just had that niggling doubt that I might have been a bit too pleased with myself. Case closed. 🙂
I’m very annoyed on your behalf re the pub’s revolting offering. Especially as it’s messed up your eating plan for the rest of the day. Such a shame when pub grub can be so good. I’ve even gone as far as to tell overseas visitors that really good pub grub can be an example at British cuisine at its best. Certainly there are a couple of places out in Essex that can’t be faulted.
How interesting your family tree investigations are proving to be. Maybe some time when we’ve each got time to spare you can possibly advise me of the best way of going about it. Who Do You…. on the Beeb makes it look dead easy, but of course squads of researchers have been at work vefore the ‘sleb’ appears on screen.
