  • Good morning fast trackers from a very wet and windy South Coast( at least my water butts are full) sorry I hope my overseas cousin understand this term for drainage barrels in the garden. I don’t have an outside tap and need to collect water.

Welcome Litchle and emel1962, good luck with your weightloss. I started this thread because I knew that more could be achieved with a positive attitude and scientific individual approach to learning what works for us individually. Supportive and understanding but not encouraging those that fall off the programme. Get back on the horse is our philosophy. I have had several lapses but am going down and still aim for 2 lb per week. This is achieved if you fast fro 2 days and record food and exercise. It’s best to work out your own level on feed days, minimum 1200 for health.

I am very excited to say that not only have I lost my holiday weight but an additional 2 lbs ahead of tomorrow’s target. That in 8 lb in one week. I only did this once before in my life when I was 20 and joined weight watchers( then it was a harsh 1000 cal daily programme) I lost 10 lbs in the first week so they kicked me out as I was below my target, incredible. They didn’t have gold stars and maintenance in those days. I probably put it all back on immediately.

As you can imagine I am feeling very, very, happy. ADF definitely works guys. I think I may stick it out until my next holiday in two weeks.

Ref TDEE – I don’t use it at all, I cannot exceed 1200, it’s a fact. I don’t even know what it is anymore. I would love to eat more calories on fast days but I put on weight if I do. I am very strict about recording every mouthful, even my snack are pre measured in little pots. I have sweet pots( raisins or grapes), crunchy pots ( breadsticks or nuts) plus olives and chilli baby beetroots to satisfy my luxury goods.

I don’t fast for hours but eat three small meals, works for meal and I don’t feel deprived.

I do two hours minimum exercise per day but that will include dog walks plus sport and gym.

Today I am performing at the local art gallery, my choir will sing with the Melodians, a steel band, so it should be a very upbeat day, can’t wait.

Tip – get a hobby that will keep you totally engrossed in the evening – currently I am tracing my family tree. I have made contact with a long lost cousin who has been tracing the family for 30 years. I only plan to devote one year to it but plan on making a good job of it, photos where possible, copy certificates and records, stories to bring characters to life. Should be a worthwhile gift to my future relatives.

I am so very happy today, had to share, feel my energy and use it guys. Put on your pedometers and walk 15, 000 steps, you may need a rain mac though.

    Love Jojo xx

    Amazon

I really admire your strength of will.
    I am trying 🙁
There are some programmes we really like , “Lewis” for example, and the recent ” Chasing Shadows”. Or else we listen to music ( huge collection of CD’s) but the body/brain still tries to send out the same message!
Oooooh, bacon sarnie. I’m drooling. I love it with brown sauce.

    Amazon,
    Bacon sarnie?
Go girl, enjoy it, you deserve a treat, so long as it is only once per week.

My treat weekly is a milky coffee, sad really but it seems like a luxury these days.

Not really into sweet things, never was, in fact I only started snacking since I started fasting, weird.

Need to get going dogs to walk before I leave, have a great weekend all

    Jojo xx

Try is all we can do, and eventually it works.

Hi Jojo, you must be so pleased with yourself. Well done, your positivity and enthusiasm are both inspiring and contagious.
I’m planning on going out for a walk later and I’m going to wear my waterproof jacket today. Even when wet, it is a glorious time of year to be out, the autumn colours are fabulous.

wicken, it’s not a bacon sarnie without brown sauce 😆

Amazing job, Jojo! I knew it would come right off for you. (And more evidence that this is not just a math problem, because you did not cut calories by 28,000 this week!)

Good morning all . Cold and quite miserable here today . Having a day in together and neighbours in working next door . They are really lovely and you don’t mind if they make a bit of noise to get their first home just right .

The veg smoothies were just an idea ,I don’t even know if I would like them lol .

This week I look as if I have put a pound on or stayed the same BUT I won’t let that get me down as I know I have done everything the same . When I was low carb I used to stall for as much as 6 weeks at a time but still lost inches . I put EVERYTHING on MFP so I know I am not cheating .

Only 1 more pound to go to 2 stone loss and it is toying with me lol .

I know it sounds a bit daft but I wanted the 2 stone for our anniversary on Tues ( still might 🙂 ).

I am now going to enter my next 2 days on MFP .

Love this thread and the first thing I read every day whenever the laptop goes on …Jojo you are a star pal xx

Have a great weekend guys and be good 🙂

    Wee xx

Wicken, instead of having snacks handy perhaps have some water (even aerated or with a little lemon juice in it for taste – I’ve heard the aerated water satisfied some for longer) and sip on that every time you think of snacking. If you really must snack have one or two unsalted nuts of choice, try for one but allow for two … list everything that goes in your mouth onto your calorie tracker … many of us use MyFitnessPal (MFP for short) to record everything we eat or plan to eat.

Today I had two eggs for lunch with one slice of wholemeal bread with a scraping of butter, this evening we had chicken kebabs (well spiced with peri peri) oven baked and steamed veggies including potatoes (I had up to 1/2 cup of potatoes, 1 cup of brussel sprouts and 1/2 cup of broccoli … no added salt or any other condiment).

While I was at the hairdresser this morning I was offered a cup of coffee which I accepted (black no sugar which is how I always have my coffee), when it arrived there was a cream biscuit with it – I am happy to say that it did not even tempt me, it was still in the saucer when I left 😀 so glad about that as normally I would have eaten that before having the coffee 😆

Great going Jojo, that’s an AWESOME result losing not only the holiday lbs but a bonus 2 lbs just for the heck of it … that is so, so encouraging for us all 🙂

Amazon … bacon is on my menu for tomorrow’s lunch (if I eat it).

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m finding that 10 out of 12 days I am not hungry enough to eat until tea time (or whatever you call your evening meal … some call it dinner, some supper it depends on where you live … sometimes I call it dinner sometimes tea time 🙂 lol) and I’m trying to ONLY eat when I’m truly hungry. I check by having some water or coffee and if still getting pangs after half an hour then I reckon it’s real hunger and I will then eat.

I had my first comment today as I was leaving my friends home (she knows what I’m doing) and I was standing in her driveway talking to her she commented “oh wow you can really see where you’ve lost some of your weight at this angle” so even though we’d been together for a few hours she really didn’t notice any change until she saw me in full bright sunlight.

I still have a little way to go to get into 2 figures but it’s getting closer and closer each week now.

Hi Wee, Ply, Bay, PVE, Tartan, SAMM, RT and everyone else … I hope you have or had a fantastic Saturday … almost 10pm here right now so will catch up with you all in the morning my time 😀

Weeman I’m sure you can do it … lose that extra 1 lb or more that is … maybe see if you can add in an extra FD or semi FD between now and then 🙂 that should do it for you (fingers, toes and eyes crossed). AO xxx

Well done, Jojo, great news re the weight loss. 🙂

Congratulations, Weemam, what a star you are.

Have fun, fast trackers. We are having glorious sunny weather 27 C today, and I feel for you having a cold and rainy autumn. Back from the coast where I took four grand children for a beach week. Ate all sorts of food, but stomach is shrunk, so simply can’t eat the amount that I used to. Nor do I have the desire to eat what I used to. What a WOL. 🙂

Fasted today after the indulgent week. Cheers, Bay 🙂

    hi Aussie Oma

We were writing at same time. Good to hear how well you’re going. Will post more tomorrow. I have a question for SAMM, but it’s too late to write.

Would love to read your question bayleafoz.

My once a month treat was to share coffee Carmel ice cream with my daughter.
I used to record tv diet show called. ” cook yourself thin”

One episode had woman whom was an admitted choco freak.
The show had the advice to make calorie counting simple by saying if you want your goal weight to be 150lbs. Eat 1,500 calories. Goal of 120lbs. Eat 1,200 calories.
I believe this to be good approach as long as there is some exercise involved.

Ok back to the chocolate. The woman cam back several episodes later, after having stalled. She said she did everything the suggested , but still had to get her chocolate . So the cooks gave a low calorie chocolate treat to fix, saying that if the calories are within the goal range . Then the chocolate is ok . Be ause she won’t be tempted by cravings.

My. Fav and I do mean fav
Is coffee and chocolate together in an icee. Instead of milk.
I learned I could also put a protein shake in my iced choffee . Made it about 200 calories .
But has much of the nutrition I need like a meal replacement.

Awweee SAMM you are such a star pal . I will C&P them and save them AND try them . Thank you so much

    Wee xx

    Smoothie tips:
Freeze your fruit and skip the ice, much better texture and flavor
Unsweetened vanilla almond milk is only 30 calories per cup and tastes great
Throw a handful of spinach or kale into any smoothie, minimal calories and does not affect the taste. (Sometimes the color gets a little funky, though!)

I like this very much so I share.

    From
    http://www.secretsofaweightlossmaster.com/weight-loss-affirmations.html

Affirmations do take some work. That work will pay off for you. They are not a quick fix or a cure all. They are however a powerful tool in your weight loss toolbox. Hopefully you have already come to the realization that all your efforts at dieting and the search for a magic bullet has not paid off. Think of this work as an investment in your thinner and inner life!

When you begin to use affirmations for weight loss you may notice resistance coming up for you in a matter of days. This is to be expected. Most people give up at this time. This resistance is the critical part of your brain saying things like, “This is dumb.” “This will never work.” Or “You’ll never lose this weight, etc.” This is also the voice of the saboteur inside of you. This is the part of you that does not want to change. It has a vested interest in keeping you fat.

When this resistance comes up use one of the following affirmations:

    I am willing to change.
    I can do this.
I have the power to change my life.
    Yes, I can!
Repeat these frequently throughout the day until you feel less resistance. Remember, your weight and overeating has been serving you in some way. It has been filling a void or meeting some need in your life. Along with doing affirmations and visualizations, you must find out what that void or need is and find a healthier, positive way of filling it. If you do not, you will quickly lapse back into your old destructive behaviors. This is one of the main reasons why diets fail.

Affirmations are powerful to use when you are going into situations that cause you to overeat. If you’re at a restaurant or party where you are tempted by the food you can repeatedly say one of the following affirmations:

I eat only what I need.
I choose to eat healthy foods.
I choose to stay on track.
I am committed to my goals.
    I effortlessly stay on track.
I eat foods that support my new weight.
I eat like a thin person.
Repeating affirmations at these times will keep you focused and on track to meet your weight loss goals.

Using affirmations will help you to begin self-nurturing yourself. If you beat yourself up about your weight, or if you say negative things about your body, use affirmations instead. If when looking in the mirror you say things like, “You have such thunder thighs.” “Look at that cellulite.” “I hate my butt, stomach, body, etc.” Choose to say positive affirmations like this:

    Thank you for serving me.
I am getting stronger and slimmer every day.
I treat my body with love and kindness.
My body is the temple of my spirit.
Every time you catch yourself speaking or thinking negatively turn it around to something positive. Negative thinking is just a bad habit. It will take some time but it can be turned around. I used to be a very pessimistic, negative thinker. It’s also the reason I suffered from depression. If a negative thinker like myself can become an optimist, anyone can!

    Hi everyone,

Many congratulations to the big-time losers (sorry that sounds rude). What I mean is all you who have dropped large numbers of pounds, or lost holiday weight plus a bit, e.g. jojo, weemam who is very nearly there, and everyone else achieving results in their different ways, like bay with her shrinking stomach – gratifying, isn’t it bay. 🙂 Also, if you happen to overdo it occasionally, as I’ve done, the queasy tum ensures that you won’t be doing it again any time soon.

Enjoy your bacon sarnie, Amazon and why not let yourself be tempted on your next non-fast day, or even today, wicken? Have either of you ever tried it the East End way – bacon sprinkled with malt vinegar instead of brown sauce? You’ve now decided my choice of lunch – BLT without the bread, i.e. a bit naughty but lo-carb. Himself can have it in a sarnie.

Aussie Oma, if you would rather not eat bread, think about trying this version on a non-fast day – lean bacon, tomato, salad leaves, dressing of your choice and even a small serving of diced blue cheese.

My main reason for posting is this link put up by a friend on Facebook, originally from the Guardian.
    http://www.theguardian.com/books/booksblog/gallery/2014/oct/10/weird-and-wonderful-bookshops-worldwide-in-pictures

I’d be surprised if their weren’t large numbers of bookworms among you. Despite the presence of Amazon (online store that is, not our esteemed buddy) where I confess to buying quite a lot of reading matter, mostly Kindle versions these days, as well as used academic stuff, there is still something magical about bookshops.

My absolute favourite, the Livreria Lello in Porto, Portugal, isn’t included. However I’ve just found this link:
    http://designyoutrust.com/2013/02/the-most-beautiful-bookshop-livraria-lello-in-porto-portugal/

Hermaj’s idea of heaven, a beautiful art nouveau building, crammed with books, in Porto, beautiful city with charming people in one of my favourite European countries. I even sort of speak the language, having done it as a subsid subject at uni. I’ve also done quite a lot of Portuguese-English translation, one of which was my last job pre-dissertation.

Every time I have a bacon sarnie I think of my two now departed cats as I used to cook an extra rasher of bacon for them. They used to sit and watch me eating, knowing that as soon as I had finished it would be their turn 😆

I like bookshops too, and it is only a week since I purchased a book. I recently read a novel that I knew my brother would really enjoy, so I bought him a copy. I had to force myself out of the shop before I bought something for myself. I have far too many books, so I try not to buy them any more.

I can’t get warm despite having been for a brisk walk and having eaten so I’ve been forced into putting the heating on. Now there is less of me I feel the cold whereas before others would be shivering and I would be wearing a vest and shorts!

    AussieOma

I don’t use a phone with ‘apps’ so MFP wouldn’t do for me I use that little book “Pocket Calorie Counter” by Carolyn Humphries. It’s great..
I’m having fun writing down, the day before, what my menu will be for the next day and totalling up the calories.
Since starting the 5.2 it’s been a lovely challenge deciding which meal to cook next day.
As I said somewhere else, it’s given me a new lease of interests in every possible way.
    Thanks for the tips 🙂
When we were in Waitrose today I bought a very small cheddar, potato and leek pie. ( delicious!)Had half when we got home( that wasn’t on my written plan!) and other half will be for tomorrow; probably Monday as tomorrow will definitely be a celebration day for our 46th anniversary.

Samm I agree with the positive attitude .
When I used to stall Years ago I took that as “It’s not working or I can’t do it) . Now I think “well! I know I can do this so just get on with it” I also find that if I go try something on and I look at myself in the mirror and it is hanging off 🙂 that does the trick . We all know by now that if we are doing it right and the scales stick ,it is our body adjusting AND we are still loosing inches .

It is our 53rd wedding anniversary on Tuesday and I have been upstairs trying on the top I wore the night of our 50th ( Golden Wedding) Our eldest son and DIL had a family picture taken for a gift on our 50th .They had it enlarged and it is in a beautiful gold frame pride of place on our living-room wall. The top so big now it looks stupid as it is hanging off me . soo I am over the moon and I know the 2 pounds will be off by Tuesday 🙂 :).

Wicken Happy Anniversary pal . Have a great day xx

have a great weekend all and thanks a million for the smoothie tips

    Wee xx

    I do that too wicken_01
When out I enjoy what I order, typically fish.
Since I practice measuring and looking up calories so often , I believe I can get a good guess on the calories of a plate of food. So wether it’s a fast day or feed day , I can still go out to dinner with friends and family . I just had to learn how to take the left overs home in a box. To my delight it becomes a way of saving money. By ordering some side dishes that would cost too much to make a single serving.

At home in my cupboard are many many canned Vegetables, I usually hoard about 120 cans and rotate during seasonal changes. Basically a six month supply to guard against disasters or financial crisis. So when I’m out I don’t choose the same stuff I have in the cupboards.

I also started to realize most restaurants post their menu item calorie values online, or someone has made an estimate and posted in the comments. In this way the intermittent fasting becomes a WOL and eating out is manageable not to negate my efforts. After all. I do enjoy going out with my friends and family for feasts. Just that if it’s a regularly scheduled fast day . I stay away from the restaurants that I can’t take home leftovers in the box.

    YOUR WELCOME
    Weemam
    BTW
Those smothies designated specifically for weight loss. As meal replacements with hydration.
At this point you’ve done so well , I personally would not step on a scale, if it doesn’t give the number you’re hoping for. It’s good working toward the goal though.

I went to my 25 high school reunion as the fatest man there. @264lbs
Shortly after was in auto accident and spent seven months trying walk with hobbling in pain. Got to 274lbs in just six months after the reunion. Decided I was dying from becoming sedentary. StArted on 5:2.
And started losing . I would have ups and downs on the scales.

My experience has taught me to use the scale as way to document what works from week to week in my diet journal. Which foods. Sate me on fast days and nourish me on feed days.

My self talk , which I’m not an expert at , but I know looking in the mirror and asking myself what would I like to change . My hair, my eye color, my clothes, my attitude. My weight. Weight is always the answer.
So I mention. Affirmations not only as weight loss tool , but as depression tool as well. But for this site , forum and thread . Affirmations. Can help to keep on keepin on even if the scales are not giving the boost to esteem like when we first start.
Many of the initial 5:2s have posted they are regaing there losses. Of course they are if not adjusting to their new BMR calculations. Just keep in mind this advice if you want to weigh 120lbs. Eat 1,200 calories

If fasting is a doable tool then take seven days times 1200, 8,400 – 2fast days(500). 7,000 calories over the other 5 feed days is 1,400 calories per feed day.

What I haven’t done yet . Is make seasonal menus.

I like to have 4 weekly menus per month. With the shopping list all listed out.
I have fast day menus , but very little in the way of feed day menus.

I started last year putting cooked food that I measured Into Pyrex bowls with lids. So that I dont have to cook so often . Typically the small cups of Pyrex with lid are measured in 250 calories, and my cupboard is filled with cans of food no more than 300 calories per can.

I eat twice on fast days 250-300 cals
And three times on feed days 500-600 cals per meal.

In this way my stomach and I’m guessing mind you. My stomach is used to smaller sizes. I’m accustom to smaller sized meals. This is my long term strategy. Getting those meals sizes down, but enjoying the food just as much as when I used to be gluttenous.

Lastly my recent adaption is not to avoid fruit completely, but eat it only on feed days. Not as dessert, but as a snack of a whole food. I believe this is helping my insulin sensitivity.

What my message to you is I hope you keep on . That at some point the scale will refuse to budge at all. Hopefully that will be at you optimum weight. Yes? So the rewards we both share when the scales dip will have to replaced with other rewards. Like knowing were eating healthy, and being enabled to become active.
Just to laugh at myself a few months ago I was so chuffed at losing 60 lbs . Even smiled gleefully at my doctor stating my loss has reached 60lbs. I felt devastated when she pointed out her office scale had a different result , of only 50. My heart was low, my scale was lying to me ARRRGH!
I realized my reward was to be found to keep on keepin on. Knowing and being empowered by understanding how it is that fat is coming off and how to keep it coming off by 3-5 lbs a month.
Keepin on. With what works to get the fat off, and keep healthy what’s left.

Aww SAMM thank you for explaining all that .
Don’t you worry about me keeping on . I am a very stubborn auld woman ( only in my 20’s in my mind) and when I start something I am like a dog with a bone . I WILL do this pal and with the help of all of you lovely people .

I have done every weight loss programme there is over the years and then gradually put it all or some of it back on , BUT this one I know I can do for life .

    Wee xx

    Wee; Here’s to you

    Drink toast

Happy Anniversary for Tuesday. Have a really lovely day.

I’m having a glass of wine with my dinner this evening so I’ll raise it to wicken and Mr wicken, and Weemam and Mr Weemam.

Cheers and congratulations to you all 🙂

I made a mistake . Just realized I had a sneaky peek on Thursday and I had lost 1lb and logged it then and that put me off as I am not due to weigh in until Monday .Soo any fluctuation will fix itself by Monday . I feel so much better now lol 🙂 ..

Thank you so much Wicken I am sure we will . Not doing anything special on Tuesday . family will be visiting though and . I will be having some Ice Cream 🙂 I am just pleased that we all still have each other 🙂 🙂

    Wee xx

    Thanks Amazon Xx

    Me too. Thanks Amazon.

Our 14 year old Grand Daughter celebrated today by scoring 2 of the goals in their 6 nil win over the opposing football team. 🙂

Happy anniversary, Weemam! Enjoy your day and your outfit!
Hi Hermaj, just thinking that we hadn’t heard from you this morning, then there you are! Wish I had more time to read…have to content myself with books on tape in the car.
Cold and rainy here too, seems like we are having the same weather across the seas today!

Well done to your granddaughter Wicken ….

    Thanks Ply I will 🙂

    Wee xx

This is going to seem pretty weird, but here goes.

You may recall there was some considerable unpleasantness on another thread around mid-August. In some ways it was a blessing in disguise as a number of us found refuge here and/or on the maintainers’ thread, where we have been made most welcome.

Today, right out of left field has come something very upsetting. It was a post – which I immediately reported – from someone who had never previously posted. It attacked me quite viciously and largely held me responsible for the departure of a particular person from that other thread. I will not quote more as that qualifies as ‘personal abuse’, even if the abuse one quotes is directed at oneself. There were also unjust accusations levelled against another poster. But let’s leave it there.

Could I ask a favour of my trusted cyber buddies on here? If ever I do or have done or say or have said anything that can be construed as nasty or uncaring about the feelings of others, please, please tell me. Even now I still don’t know what I did. I’d like to avoid any further situations of that kind.

Herm I think you are lovely and you have always said really nice and encouraging things .

    Wee xx

    Quick hello to Smiffy,

We finally got to eat Chicken Basque. Delicious! It will definitely become a regular treat. All my favourite things in one dish, minus anchovies.

However, there’s a chicken puttanesca recipe in the Fast Diet Recipe Book, which does use anchovies to great effect, so I imagine it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to add a few to Chicken Basque. Thanks again for recommending it.

Very Happy Anniversary wishes to both sets of Mr & Mrs W. Have a wonderful celebration. Here’s to your diamond one, wee, and your golden one, wicken, which can’t be all that far away.

Delighted to hear you have a granddaughter who plays football. wee. Did you or she ever watch Bend It Like Beckham? As a player she would identify it and I think you all would love it.

Thanks for you kind comment, wee. It’s good to know. xx 🙂

hermaj, you must have heard the saying “there’s nowt as queer as folk”
Never truer than on an internet forum.

Hi all, I really liked your post Samm- as a complete newbie I know I cannot comment too much but I think the notion of affirmations is integral to long term success / commitment to this way of life. My weight is more than an issue of calorie consumption and so whilst embracing the 5:2 approach I am working on affirmations and my self esteem. Easier said than done but I know that it has to be a two pronged approach if I am to enjoy long term weight management.

I feel really excited about the weeks to come. I turn 52 in nine weeks so am determined to be 9 kilos lighter – a tad over two lobs per week I think !

    Hi emel and welcome.

2lbs a week is doable, but sometimes the scales don’t show results on a regular basis. Have you measured yourself, because you’ll find that you lose inches when the scales seem to have stuck.
I’ve lost 10 inches from my waist which is the only area I measured as I was so shocked when I saw how big it was I couldn’t bear to do the rest!
Losing weight is always a battle with yourself, but IMO it really helps to be able to talk to those who are trying to do the same.

WOW such a lot to catch up on this beautiful morning 🙂

Wee and Wicken wishing you both fantastic anniversaries this week. For info only Wicken I also use the MFP on my computer … I only use the app when I’m out and about. MFP will tell me what calories are contained in just about anything I am looking to eat or purchase. It has a lot of brands some from UK, USA even here in Aus just makes making my shopping list easier and easier … mind you mine is now foodwise mainly veggies and a variety of meat/chicken etc which I freeze in portion sizes so that when I pull them out of the freezer I know there’s ample for my OH as well as myself.

On a side note, I’m finding that I’m saving heaps of money by not buying pre-processed foods and preparing my own meals (we did 90% of the time anyway but portion sizes were a major issue for me … as well as mashed potato … but even after just this short time on this WOL my portion sizes have reduced, I still eat what I like, just cut down the amount but have put mash off the menu for the time being, although I did have one spoonful of it last weekend when the family was over … I did manage to leave a tiny bit of it.

Pre this WOE/WOL I could easily (and often did) consume a LOT of chicken in a meal, now I plan this into my diet and still have enough but not excessive (I’ve even cut down on the amount over this last week as I was full enough) and one way I’m doing this is by ensuring there are LOTS of steamed veggies on my plate (at least half my plate) and making sure they’re eaten before finishing any chicken or potato (in that order) so even though I had a quarter of a cup of potato last night (steamed) I also had one cup of brussel sprouts and 1/2 cup of broccoli along with my marinated (peri peri) kebabs (all lean chicken pieces) … I now also have less than half the number of kebabs as I’d have previously eaten. Total calories for my meal last night was 487 and that was a non-fast day meal. Overall for the day I was a little under 1000 cals and I find that I’m not looking to eat in between (I decided I was going to have a chocolate yesterday, was going to a girlfriend’s home after shopping and arranged to put my bacon in her fridge and totally forgot I had a chocolate in the bag which was left in the car, came out and found it was totally melted, lol, luckily it was in a sealed wrapper (one of those single ones you can buy at the checkout) so guess who didn’t have that ha ha. Before this I would have eaten it before I even got out of the shopping centre car park.

SAMM as usual spot on re positive affirmations. I used this method to turn my life around quite some years ago with my mind set about my life in general. I now have a wonderful life, yes there are ups and downs but that is normal. Now I’m using them to break through the weight barrier, taking it down piece by piece to find the slimmer me.

Amazon, love the bacon … I get very lean bacon here and only buy the rindless variety. I microwave it on crisp so any fat in it goes out then cut it up and add it to an omelette which I make without any added fat as well (I have one of those special frypans which don’t need anything added and clean up like a breeze … well they’re meant to but don’t always clean nicely) so the only “fat” is whatever is in the single slice of cheese I allow in it. I can also add other things like tomatoes or some veggies but rarely do as I find that that is enough for me (no bread needed with this, it’s enough on it’s own).

Hermaj I think we’re on the same wavelength and this is basically what I do with my omelette style egg. It’s when I only have plain egg that I do like one slice of bread (it helps to soak up the yoke, lol) and this way it’s on a weekend and I have time to work it off. I do try to stay away from bread as much as possible but I will have one slice every now and then. I’m aiming for a maximum of 3 slices of wholemeal bread per week.

I’ll try to catch up with everyone throughout the day here but will need to go back and re-read things.

Oh, yes, another book worm here 😆 love my books, I love the tactile feel of a book in hand but do also occasionally buy an ebook. I also have other hobbies, ie paper crafting such as card making, making gift boxes/bags etc. I have an order from a friend at work for a few Christmas cards for her to send to friends/family in the US so I’m working on those today. I also have my dogs (German Shepherds) which we breed/show/train and I’m looking forward to being more involved in their training sooner rather than later now 😀

Spot on, Amazon. I don’t have huge experience of forums, this is only my second. Comforting words nonetheless. Thank you.

Hi and welcome emel. Post away, how else will we get to know you and vice versa 😀

Hermaj how terrible to read that, you have always been open and supportive on here in my experience.

All this was posted while I was composing my chapter above, lol.

Emel as Amazon states measure yourself. I only measure 4 areas – Bust/Chest, Waist, Hips and Neck. So far I’ve lost 20cm overall (that’s approx 8 inches) and this is in four weeks, along with over 6 kg (one week I only lost 200g but I lost cm’s) the next week I lost over 1kg. I think I would have been very down if I hadn’t lost size at the same time as basically losing nothing.

@Hermj, I am not usually on this thread but just happen to see your recent post about a (now removed) post on another thread. I had only re-joined the forum around mid August, and happened to read and remember the unfortunate dispute. Since someone had all the posts removed, it is unfair to reference back to them when anyone new to the forum can’t judge for themselves what went on. This makes this users actions particularly unfair especially when mentioning names. You definitely said nothing that was in any way the reason why someone has left.

I can only confirm and comfort you that I have never seen any posts of yours that were in any way unpleasant. On the contrary your posts are supportive, interesting and warm.

I hope this will not deter you and the other accused from posting as I think this might have been what today’s post was hoping to achieve.

I saw that post as well, Hermaj. Please trust that you are just fine, and a pleasure to have as a cyber chum.

    Hi Hermaj

A quick note to second all that Weemam and Lichtle have said. You did not say anything offensive. You are one of my favourite posters on this and other threads. I have long left the other thread, and so do not know what was written.

BTW Did you notice that all of us who made helpful suggestions re a trial of low carb and no sugar for a short period of time were asked to leave, pleasantly in my case and not so pleasantly in others. We had been helped by the thread and were only trying to return the favour to help with sticky weight loss.

Keep writing and enjoying the support of others on this thread. We are all in this WOL together. 🙂

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

    Hi AO.
I’ve a few hobbies too. I love knitting and used to knit designer stuff to order as well as knit garments for family and friends. I gave it up when I got two kittens as they were a nightmare, grabbing the ends of the needles, clawing the piece I was knitting, chewing the wool. The cats are now long gone and I’ve taken it up again. Until the beginning of this year I had a veggie plot and grew all manner of things, and over the years I accumulated a lot of recipes for chutneys and veggies, which I still make, but with stuff bought from farmers markets. I loved the veggie plot and thought that when I gave up work I would have more time but I have less as other interests have taken over, so I gave it up. I can’t say I miss it, but I do sometimes miss the fresh veggies.
I also love to bake and make Christmas cakes and other goodies for gifts every year. It is going to be a challenge making things this year as I’ll not be eating any myself. I make my own bread which is lasting a long time at the moment as I’m trying to eat it once a week and no more!I read a lot and have a Kindle which has about 100 books yet to be read. I am a keen tennis fan and get up all hours of the night to watch it on TV (my friends think I’m crazy) and I like to go to tournaments if possible. When I was in Perth WA in January I went to the new arena to watch Australia play Italy in the Hopman Cup. I like to walk, and me and my best friend have an ambition to walk the entire Thames path which runs from the source of the river Thames to the estuary. We’ve done all the sections near to where we live but the rest requires a bit more planning and we’ll be doing more of it in the spring.

    Hermaj,

I’m just catching up today and see there’s been more fall out from ‘mad August’. Unfortunately the offending post had been removed before I saw it, so I can’t comment on it.

I must admit I would far rather offensive posts remained with a caveat that the post broke guidelines. (I say this because as far as I am aware none of my posts were removed, whilst many of Precious BooBoo’s were, making it a very one-sided conversation and not allowing anyone else to make their own mind up). Oh, and also, I’d like to point out that I didn’t report any of Boo’s offensive posts that were removed.

Anyway, Hermaj, I think you’re great and genuine (unlike some others on the forum, past and present, that I don’t need to name).

I love you because I think what I see is what I get. And that is exactly what you can expect from me. And you haven’t done anything wrong.

I felt that I was cyberbullied earlier this summer. I hope the offensive post did not do the same for you?

    Yes . Hermaj
Forums can be sensitive. You’ve been on this thread even longer than I have.
I know I cross the many times myself. I’m not perfect and am glad you’ve forgiven me.

Well I’ve reading and watching videos on probiotics. Not just the marketed grocery types buut the fringe of science. Im flabbergasted. No matter what there are only three types of intestine, like blood type . However there trillions of probiotic.
How that relates to this thread?
No mater what we eat the probiotics determin our weight , well 90% of our food interacts with our biotics in our intestines. Those interactions determine how well we absorb our vitamins and minerals.
If we dont get the needed nutrition the biotics keep breaking the matter down, we get fat!
Once were fat. It’s actually a battle with our probiotics that cause the yoyo effect of dieting.
The human body wants to stay the same weight or gain. Poor biotics play a big role in weight gain. , breaking down sugars. But when the probiotics that break down fats and proteins are destroyed by aspartame or asculflme In many diet foods. there an issue.

Rather tell you about it . I invite you to read on it too. My bet is big diet companies that have their food brands may be already in the business of adding biotics . That’s just a guess. I don’t care about that for my own plan. But share the possibility .
Basically we can intake perfect balance of nutrition from foods , but if our probiotics are out of balance we may not be up taking it as precisely . I digress

My guess is as we age we need different probiotics. But also fasting so that the the good for us bacterias have time to regenerate.

So my quick answer for now is

Chicken Eggs but no more than 1 a day till 70 then two
Don’t over eat protein. Have 2 protein fast of only 20% a week.
Control blood sugar by not drinking sugary soda pop
Control probiotics by not drinking diet soda pop.
Try to have uncontaminated fats olive and coconut for instance.

On the probiotic front. There are what I would call normal foods that are considered probiotic.
    Quick read link
    http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/probiotic-foods/
What catches my eye is dark chocolate. 🙂
    Also yogurt and sauerkraut .

All three of those are bitter and IMO excellent for controlling appetite.

However when combining probiotics with fasting , health foods on feed days, and exercise. I’m starting to see a compelling health WOL . Surprisingly delicious .

Ok I’m getting to eat my 600 calories meal now . In my maintenance B2B 60hours 1,200cals.
Will weigh in tommorrow just before breaking the fast.

I have no proof or evidence or facts. But I believe if I’m eating regular foods like that naturally probiotic.
Like yogurt , dark chocolate, and sauerkraut . On the B2B fasts it may and I’m guessing. Help to maintain my probiotic health without having to buy the 6week probiotic regimen.

Ok. I’ll post more when I can reference more. But I’m thinking it will be ten years or longer. Before any new discoveries are proven. I’m not waiting.
I’m going all in on probiotics, fasting, healing herbs, anti cancer foods, and nutrition dense vegetables from low glycemic index.
I also jumped rope today instead of lifting due to soreness of rotator cuff and neck disc.
Steps taken today 2,884. A rest day for me , but I accomplished HIIT 🙂
    Good luck everyone.

Hi again Hermaj. Given that the whole madness kicked off in August because of me, and you and other LOACAs left the LOACA thread as a consequence, can I assume that I am the other now referred to? If so I’d like the opportunity to defend myself..

Oh my goodness this is a chatty crowd! Loads to catch up on- I’ve scanned quickly through and think I’ll go back and copy and paste some of Samm’s contributions as someone suggested. The recipes look good and I’m interested to learn about affirmations. I love the idea of empowerment through thought and think it could be very helpful in many aspects of life.
Well done Jojo that’s an amazing and inspirational result – it’s proof that even after long term dieting you can get great weight loss if you put the effort in. Congrats to wicken and wee mam – enjoy your special day, some milestones are definitely worth celebrating and sharing with loved ones.
Hermaj- I’m sorry you’ve been upset again. I’ve never been on a forum before in my life but I do use the internet enough to know that it brings out the very worst in some people. I gave my tuppence worth at the time and can assure you that there has been no reason for anyone to take offence then or since.
I’ve had a wonderful diet aid this weekend- my daughters puppy! We have been puppy sitting and boy does it take up your time! Took her on a big adventure today- she met Shetland ponies, swans, ducks and lots of other dogs. Had a pub lunch and charmed everyone she met she’s such a sweetie. My husband has melted and admits that he thinks she’s great and walked her very proudly on the lead- so funny to see a big 6ft 4 guy with this white ‘ cloud with a face ‘ as my friend described her!
Back in the groove with my eating but holding off till next week before I get on the scales. Bought the biker jacket – you only live once do what makes you happy! Best wishes to all especially the newbies

    Hi Samm

Thanks for offering to look at my question. Jojo made me think of it, given her reference to surgery at the end of weight loss. 🙂

As you may know, I began 5:2 in late January 2014. I lost 17 kg and have been maintaining for 4 months. I have gone from a size 16 top and bottom, to a size 12 top and size 10 slacks. Also my BP meds are down one third and after my next check up may go lower.

So I am very happy with both weight and size and health. My only concern is a lot of fat between my abs and my skin, in the area commonly called a pot belly. I can feel my abs through the fat which is quite thick and pudgy. This fat is disguised when in clothes, but I would like to lose it if possible. 🙂

Do you know of any way to target that particular fat source? Either with food or exercise or whatever?

I have an addictive response to sugar, and have often wondered if I eliminated sugar in all its forms, whether the tummy fat would go away. When I was losng weight, I had no sugars nor starches. I am still very low in both.

I really appreciate your research and just wondered if you had come across any related to targeted fat loss.
    Many thanks, Bay 🙂

Happy anniversary to Weemam and Mr W and to Wicken and Mr W.

I am going to teach myself how to do animated emoticons! But not now. I am into the garden on another glorious 27 C sunny day. They aren’t going to last. So am enjoying while I can. 🙂 Bay
