  • Yes Nicky, I did see Insight on Monday. I guess those sorts of shows always have time constraints and it does undergo a huge amount of editing as it is pre recorded, unlike Q and A.
The general idea got across, but Dr M spoke far more naturally, and passionately, at the book launch we attended on Friday. He is out to change the world. Good on him!!! P 😊

Amazon, I found it easier to rid our house completely of white carbs for the year it took to reach goal. That way we were able to learn to eat other foods. Visitors were no exception. They ate what we did. Could you model good eating habits for the builders by offering fruit and nuts? 😆 😇 P

    Hi P,

Bread is 90% of my white carb intake as I cut down drastically on anything that contained gluten in the years I suffered from IBS. Since it has resolved I’ve not increased the amount I eat apart from bread so things like rice, cous cous and pasta are eaten occasionally. I used to eat pasta at least four times a week and now it is once or twice a month unless I’ve made some FD dinners with it. I don’t eat rice with curry so only have it if I make a risotto or paella. In fact I’ve got two bags of arborio rice that are going to be past their best by date due to me eating so little of it these days.
I love cakes and pastries but my tastes have changed and so many are far too sweet and cloying, so I have them only if they are the very best patisserie quality or home made so I don’t eat them anyhwhere near as often as before 5:2
I’m also no longer able to eat three courses if I go out for dinner and tend to leave some of the carbs and skip dessert. Some of my friends can’t believe it as I always practically cleaned the pattern from the plate and NEVER declined dessert!

I have no intention of offering the builders anything other than my home made cake (which has reduced sugar and lots of fruit and nuts 😉 ) as it ensures they go the extra mile and I need them to put my bed back together and hang a blind for me once the work has been completed 😋

I’ve been damp dusting and washing all the paintwork and floors. I think I’m finally on top of the dust situation as I can’t see any from where I’m sitting………

Ah, the old “bribe the workmen” trick? An old one, but a good one! 😉
Your finished work will be the reward.

With regard to bread…I make home made sourdough for Mr P. He has one small slice about 4 times a week. I have to go outside and garden so that I can’t smell it toasting, it is that irresistible! I know I would eat too much if I started, so I eat none. As I used to cook cakes commercially, I can happily bake bread etc without eating it, but the smell of toast in the morning is a killer… P

    Hi Guys,
My guest just left early as her son thought she was being unreasonable for not joining him for lunch on Mother’s Day, even though he only remembered to invite her yesterday. Honestly! But she has gone because she doesn’t want to upset him. Meanwhile we had breakfast out instead of lunch. Salmon and scrambled egg, delicious. Dogs got the toast, disappeared very rapidly before I could change my mind. That utube link was fascinating about low carb diet and confirms my own theories and practice.
My daughter got a silver medal in the dragon boat races yesterday so much celebrating. She has also been invited to live with her friends permanently to share bills because they have bought a large house. So she is delighted because they get on very well. She gets her first pay packet this Friday after eight months of living off savings, she is so excited. She has also done her first day as an SPSA -Animal Rescue volunteer and loved her pet fix. Pictures will be added to Facebook later. Also a picture of me driving my friend VW camper, she has just bought it for her travel to folk festivals, it’s great, everything except a toilet and shower, cleanliness is over rated anyway. Ha ha!
I parked it in my drive for her because it’s quite narrow. I could see myself owning one of these, got me thinking now.
    Off to bowls now.
Forgot to say, another half a pound off today, going very well on 800 cals with low carb. Not hungry at all.

Hi folks, from this weeks Forum read: some of you are succeeding in very unique food programs, good luck to you. Some of you are achieving amazing milestones in your personal lives, congratulations and some of you are just processing life while you embrace 5:2/4:3 good on you all fellow valiant warriors.

My weekly weigh in was a bit disappointing just under 1-kilo not the full 2.2-lbs that I was expecting. Perhaps it’s the steroids? I just started a round 8-days ago will be finished tomorrow….just needed a wee bit of pain management as it was becoming eye-watering overwhelming day ;n night…. C’est la Vie. Instantly, I look like I’m keeping the winter food for a family of five in the pocket of my cheeks ….sigh…. AAANYway the GOOD news (I guess) is that I’m still losing not gaining.
This does make feel very happy.

Had a relaxed eating weekend not too mindful, indulgent would be the right word…. ate Wild Boar Stew and another day Black Pork cheeks. Real salt-of-the-earth, talk’n to Jesus kinda food.

Was at a private dinner last night and the spread was laid out rich ‘n gorgeous, roast leg of lamb and such things. Three things surprised me; (1) I was surprised at the size of the portions of supper served on the plate…seemed huge to me, only ate half of everything passed down to me…but ALL the folks at the table left clean plates (2) broke my Lent and had 1 glass of wine thinking I was being sociable…. found it bored me and switched to water for the rest of the evening (3) as the evening turned into the next day…I was one of only two completely sober persons in the room. It looked (from the temper of the conversations) and felt odd even alien.

Well now facing another week… will try to conduct a 4:3 week…we’ll see. Well till next weekend, stay strong and if you fail, just get up and try again.

    Evening Everyone,
Well Ply it’s my turn to get the niggling stomach cramps today, not severe though but aggravated by dinner tonight(Harissa Chicken) I am thinking I may have a liquid fast day, water / tea / thin soup possibly tomorrow see if a rest sorts it out.
We won our bowls game 26/11 so good news but I could have really done with a hot water bottle on my stomach, I have one now and that is making it more comfortable. Doesn’t feel like gall bladder pain.
How is everyone getting on? Smithy, Bay, Ply?
RT- need cheering up, what have you got ?

Chat tomorrow, good Luck on you fasts! Keep moving!

Hi Jo a little something for you from the vault 😉
A lawyer married a woman who had previously divorced 10 husbands. On their wedding night, she told her new husband, “Please be gentle, I’m still a virgin.” “What?” said the puzzled groom. “How can that be if you’ve been married 10 times?” “Well, Husband #1 was a sales representative. He kept telling me how great it was going to be. Husband #2 was in software services. He was never really sure how it was supposed to function, but he said he’d look into it and get back to me. Husband #3 was from field services. He said everything checked out diagnostically, but he just couldn’t get the system up. Husband #4 was in telemarketing. Even though he knew he had the order, he didn’t know when he would be able to deliver. Husband #5 was an engineer. He understood the basic process, but wanted three years to research, implement, and design a new state-of-the-art method. Husband #6 was from finance and administration. He thought he knew how, but he wasn’t sure whether it was his job or not. Husband #7 was in marketing. Although he had a nice product, he was never sure how to position it. Husband #8 was a psychologist. All he ever did was talk about it. Husband #9 was a gynecologist. All he did was look at it. Husband #10 was a stamp collector. All he ever did was… God! I miss him! But now that I’ve married you, I’m really excited!” “Good,” said the new husband, “but, why?” “You’re a lawyer. This time I know I’m going to get screwed!”

    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    Hello Fast trackers.

    RT 🙂 🙂 🙂

Amazon, cake sounds like a wise investment for your builders. Well done on resisting the temptation.

Jo, sorry to hear your ‘innards’ are not too happy. Hope it resolves itself soon. Good news about your daughter’s dragon-boating and accommodation.

So far so good at nearly lunchtime on this FD. Scales this morning showed the same weight as after last week’s 2 FDs so a good springboard for the week and empowering. Just about to head off for a cuppa with my daughter (she follows this WOL too) and then on to Mt Lofty Botanic Garden for a teaching session with the Hort. staff. Very hot and humid here, unusually for an Adelaide summer so low-cal chicken and salad for dinner.

Take care all and keep up the good work. n xxx

    Morning/evening all,

Yet another glorious sunny but cold and frosty morning ✳🌞

I am so looking forward to th discipline of my FD as I know there will be no eating until dinner. The weekend turned into a major battle with myself trying not to eat cake. I had a slice yesterday as I knew if I didn’t I would eat anything and everything else in sight. I had far too much fermented grape juice this weekend too and I’ve woken up still feeling full despite not eating since 5pm yesterday.

I am looking forward to some hard work at the gym this morning and if I have the energy and the sun is still shining I might go for a walk this afternoon.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Morning All,
Rough and sleepless night, so I am having a lay in today. Stomach is still niggling me so I am resting this morning before going to a garden meeting this afternoon, hopefully to learn ‘how to prune shrubs properly’ I usually just hack them down and hope for the best.

Thank goodness for retirement, if I was still at work I would have to ‘carry on regardless’ as I worked for myself ‘sick days’ we’re not an usually an option as it was difficult to get ‘cover’ at short notice, Not eating today so hopefully my stomach will sort itself out.

Sun shining here but very chilly.
    RT – hilarious, thanks!
    Have a good day everyone.

    Good Evening All,
Well I am very much better informed about ‘pruning’ now. Our speaker at my Garden Group was in charge of the boroughs parks and gardens for 40 years so he was a font of knowledge. After a talk about safety, sharpening and types of equipment we were let loose in the hostesses garden. With 15 of us it was quite a work party. I took on the roses. It was very cold so we were glad to get in for a cuppa, refused cake and kitkats.
Feeling a bit better now but I think an early night is on the agenda.

    Hello Everyone,
Jojo you must be feeling better. RT- love the jokes.
I also do not have bread in the house.
    Fast day for me.
    Take care

    Thanks Sarah I feel fine,
Nothing that isn’t cured by my trusty hot water bottle.

Well done on removing bread from the house. My husband enjoys bread which means it is a contant temptation for me. Bread was a major factor in my obesity so I am cutting it out but I really love it so it is hard. Like many I prefer savoury food not sweet stuff which at least helps me resist cakes and biscuits.

Hope your fast day goes well and quickly.

Where is everyone? Busy I guess!
Hope you are all coping well with fasting or maintaining.
Smithy and Bay, how are you getting on with BSD? I am going to take a couple of days off it. I seem to have caught some unpleasant virus, flu like. I woke up with severe headache, nausea and the shakes today. My stomach pains are still there too.
Ply – have your stomach cramps gone ?
I have a close friend that has flu so I am guessing I have caught that, but it’s bed for me today. No enthusiasm for cooking today. Luckily I have lots of nourishing soup in my freezer that should help, along with gallons of water.
At least I got a good nights sleep last night and I have a good book to read.
    Speak tomorrow.

    Hi Jojo,
Sorry to hear you sound really sick! I hope you have stayed in bed and are giving in gracefully, rest is the best cure. At least you wont be tempted to eat badly if you stick to home made soup. I hope it passes quickly. After all that planning and food shopping, you will want to get back to the BSD! I hope Ply is ok too!

I wonder where everyone is? I am guessing Amazon is busy charming her builders – they have probably moved on from tea and cake to something stronger by now! (In celebration of a job well done!) I hope its finished and what you hoped for Amazon and you are no longer eating plaster dust. When we renovated our kitchen a few years ago, several pieces of slate had to be jackhammered up and the concrete dust was unbelievable. It got into cracks and crevices previously unknown…. a nightmare but well worth it!

I think most of us ‘downunder’ are struggling under the oppressive heat that has snuck up on us, just as Summer finished! 37 in Melbourne today and still low 30’s at 11.30pm – very exhausting! At least I have caught up on washing etc after our little break, it dries on the clothes line in about half an hour! I have had a couple of fast days to undo my excesses of last week, it is definitely easier to fast in the heat. I have just had ‘supper’ of lovely cold water melon…..

    Hi all,

Nama the job is nowhere near finished. The plaster takes several days to dry out before it can be painted. The electrician is coming tomorrow to finish installing new sockets and lighting and the painting is due to start on Thursday. Once that is done the floor will be laid and then I need to bribe the builders with more cake to put my bed back together and hang a blind 😁

I am doing ADF this week to fit in with everything that is going on so today is a normal eating day. I made a portion of Bircher muesli and topped it with some delicious (imported) fresh figs.

I received a parcel from my friend in Adelaide and it contains a book written by a survivor of Pol Pot’s reign of terror. I wanted to buy a book when I was in Cambodia and there were many on sale at the Genocide Museum but I was so distressed by what I had seen that I couldn’t bear to look at the selection and choose one. My friends were in Cambodia just before Christmas and they all read the book when they came home.I am going to read it but I know it’ll be a tough read but something I want to know about from the perspective of a victim.

When I was out shopping this morning there were a few snowflakes falling. Fortunately that has stopped and the sun has come out but it remains very cold. It is the coldest it has been in London this winter as we have been very fortunate to have a mild and fairly dry time of it.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Eat Less & Live Longer

Says it all really, RT. 😂😂😂

Sorry to hear you are ill, Jo. Stick with the soup and follow Sister Nama’s advice. 😊

Funny weather everywhere! Heatwaves in southern Aust, snow in London. We are getting high 20s, so not too bad, but the Bushfire Brigade is doing hazard reduction burns. The air is choking with smoke…have to keep the windows closed, no outside walking and sinuses in distress. At least I don’t feel like eating 😊😊

Hope everyone is doing ok. Cheers P

    Good morning fast trackers

Jo, I hope you are feeling better. Bed rest and soup sound like the ticket.

Nama, good to get back on track. I’ll bet you didn’t get far off it in the first place though. I love how this WOL has given us the tools to be able to enjoy the important things without our weight getting out of control.

Amazon, your renovations are taking longer than I imagined. As Nama said, building dust gets everywhere. After they’re gone you’ll be able to have a good blitz.

RT 🙂 🙂 🙂 Love your work! What does that say about our minds?

Purple, hope the sinuses are improving. How is your new music piece progressing?

Like everywhere else in SE Australia the weather is horrible! Yesterday was 37C (beaten by my pal RT in Naracoorte though) with about 80% humidity – so exhuasting. I went to weight training after work but at least their aircon was working well so came out of there no hotter than usual. Long drive home due to 2 crashes on the freeway with consequent lane closures, speed restrictions and congestion. What should have been a 20′ trip was twice that so arrived home hot, tired and grumpy.

Pleasant surprise to find our daughter and grandchildren had popped in after school. OH had just made a jug of iced coffee – the Lenten ‘no added sugar’ pledge out the window completely. The ice cream in the coffee was yummy but also led to other indulgences. Sugar really is bad for us!!! The plus side is that while I almost certainly exceeded my usual target TDEE for a non-FD, my fitbit showed I burned up >3000 calories so probably not disastrous. Another FD today to reset with slightly cooler weather predicted.

Take care all and keep up the good work. n xxx

Hi Nicky The “new” piece is one I could apparently play in my teens, but I have no memory of it. I’m a bit like the goldfish swimming around its bowl… ‘Oh, there’s a castle!’ … 100 times a day. 😕
21 here this morning so pleasant…and the smoke has gone…until later!

I’m envious of your 3000 cal burn. My monitor only ever shows 1500 to 1700 cals, even when I’ve run! This is one of the biggest disappointments of weighing in the 50kgs…you simply don’t burn as much. Therefore you can hardly eat anything. But, thems the breaks!!! P

My FitBit numbers are usually 2000-2200 if I have done between 10-15,000 steps. I use it as a guide and I use Calorie King to record my food. Obviously I haven’t succeeded otherwise I wouldn’t be here writing. But with my renewed enthusiasm with the 5:2 plan, I am hoping for success. I had a NFD of about 1800 calories with a calorie burn from Fit Bit of 2100. I woke up at around 5am (most unusual) and I had low blood sugar and cold. I got up and had a sugar free hot chocolate with almond milk and went back to bed. Couldn’t sleep as the mind was awake. Now I have to get by on 5 1/2 hours sleep. Humph!

Does anyone else suffer like that?

I am going to Stradbroke Island for 4 days on Friday (Queensland). I will have to do the FD the day before I leave and another one day later on the way back. They say that using a travel day is good for a FD as it is an easy distraction.
I am still one of those who “lives in hope” of success. Small goals, I tell myself. Onward into battle….

    Hi Jaqui
Love Stradbroke! Fasting while travelling is definitely the way to go.
It takes 20000 steps for me to burn 1900. I often get 1800 cals burnt when it’s not hot, but, at present, most of my exercise is swimming. Far too hot for 10km walks, I’m afraid.
I now know that at 57-58kg I don’t dare eat more than 1500 cals on an eating day, hence I’m very careful to eat only the best food and wine and leave the rest.
Regarding sleep on fast nights…I’m always wide awake (it’s part of how we evolved to be alert when hungry). I also do frequent ‘loo trips’ as there is little food in tge stomach to absorb the liquid. But the rewards are SO worth it!
    Enjoy your break. P

Hi Jacqui. Like Purple, I love Straddie – used to one of our favourite weekend getaways when we lived in Brisbane. So envious!

As Purple says, when you get to goal, the rewards are worth it. I have yet to attain that ‘sunlit upland’ though, even if maintaining my accumulated losses.

Purple, my target is the same as your current weight so try to limit my non-FDs to around 1500 cals and maximum 400 on a FD. Not sure the fitbit is entirely accurate as I routinely burn >2000/day so theoretically the fat should be disappearing more rapidly than it apparently is. On the up side my trainer last night said I was by far his strongest woman client, irrespective of age – not bad for someone who’s 70 next month I reckon.

Talk about make the gods laugh by telling them your plans … FD out the window today, following yesterday’s solecisms – succumbed to around 100g of Haigh’s dark chocolate scorched almonds at morning tea. 🙁 🙁 My only consolation is that is good quality chocolate and locally grown almonds. Fortunately no longer hungry so will only have black tea and water until a veg stir-fry for dinner. Why does weeks of good progress result in slackness? I guess if I knew that I’d be a millionaire. n

Nicky, 5:20pm. 10000 steps. 6 kms. 1400 calories. And that included many steps and climbing over rocks etc. Doesn’t leave much room for indulgent eating. 😯 P

    Well done P.

5.50pm here, 3,800 steps, 3.1 km, 4 floors and 1700 calories. Just about to head out for a walk before dinner. Nothing calorific since chocolate almonds so an OK non-FD.

    Morning/evening all

Nicky, after nearly three weeks of really good progress I had a three day weekend where I inadvertently slipped into the seefood (and eat it) diet 😖 I guess it takes a long long time to train our minds and bodies to accept that the changes in our eating habits are permanent.
I am blissfully unaware of the consequences as I am yet to unearth the scales from the bedroom contents piled up in the corner of the living room!
I fasted on Monday and as I’ve changed to ADF this week to fit in with my plans I’m hoping I can negate any damage and continue with the weight loss. I’m not getting to the gym as often as I would like or getting out for walks at the moment either but will be able to do so as soon as this work is done.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Interesting. Just chatting with Mr P over a yum non fast dinner (I always eat well before Thursday fast), he had done 9000 steps on his Fitbit, recording 1737 cals, 6.52 kms. We both had our monitors off for swimming but theoretically should have recorded the same the rest of the day. We ate the same, about 1500. We usually do. With that, he should be losing weight, but he just maintains. Fitness monitors are not the be all and end all. They cannot allow for different activities (he gets credits on his for hammering!) or for different metabolisms or energetic people…(he’s falling asleep while I type!!!)
I use mine solely as a guide to try to do my 10000 minimum.
Keep your goal in sight. You can do it Nicky! P 😊

    Morning All,
Blustery rainy day here and I need to face getting out with the dogs( only driving them to the park, they can run around off the lead, not up to walking today) Still not at all well, it’s not flu but the dreaded gall bladder flare up. At least I know it wasn’t caused by poor food choices this time. I have a GP appointment later but pretty certain, I have that same excruciating low back pain I had last time plus high temperature.
    Jacqui,
My exercise makes no difference to my calorie usage, I regularly record more burnt than eaten, but weight does not fall off. I cannot exceed 1200 cals per day no matter what exercise I do. I usually average 10,000 steps per day too. If I go over 1200 calories eaten I gain weight, proven fact as I record everything daily( and honestly). I am losing effectively on 800 calories but I will need to go back slowly, increasing calories buy 100 per day to check my new level( gain point)I have learnt to ignore exercise calories burned. I thought ‘hit’ exercises would make a difference but until I go up to 1200 calorie limit again I won’t be able to check.
Amazon- we all need a ‘controlled’ break from ‘being careful 24/7’ and we know we will pay the price and penalty, weight gain and extra fast day needed. After two years two months of fasting we accept that this will be a lifelong struggle.

With me one day off 1200 calorie maximum is one pound gained, simple fact. I am not talking about bingeing on that day off either, just going up to 1600 limit. I am sure this is not supported by science but it is documented and experienced by me. I simply can’t indulge in sugar or complex carbs without weight gain. On holiday days I may have a pudding ( not creamy) maybe apple pie and custard or two gin and slimline tonics, maybe a slice of toast at breakfast,( not all three on one day) deviation from 1200 is enough to make me gain.

During my morbidly obese years I would think nothing of eating 6 slices of bread and butter per day, between meals, it was without doubt my worst enemy, I never really had a sweet tooth( but there is sugar in bread) I never really thought about that, never mind the thick spreading of butter. Rarely eat bread now but still crave it more than any other food. I have other friends who will eat a whole box of chocolates or packet of biscuits( because it is there). So we don’t have these ‘danger foods’ in our houses. Although my husband has white bread here I can resist it 99 % of the time now, I have come along way, but there is still a long way to go.

    Good Luck Fasters
RT- thanks for the laughs I need them at the moment.

    Hi Jojo,

I thought it sounded more like GB problems than anything else but didn’t want to say anything. Thank goodness you are having surgery soon.

I am not really worried about having had a bad weekend eating wise but I am annoyed that I gave my self control time off. I know that by the time I weigh myself again the scales will register a lower number than last time as I’m back on the wagon. It seems that I can be really disciplined if I have a goal eg 14 weeks before Cuba and I succeeded in losing 28lbs. I’ve got 8 weeks until I go to Rome so I’ve set myself a target of 12lbs which is more modest but I’ve much less to lose and I guess it’ll be more difficult the closer I get to goal.

    Amazon,
    Great news!
I agree there is ‘no point crying over spilt milk’.
I don’t see myself ever being in a position where I don’t need to compensate for my own excesses, albeit less excessive than previously.
It’s great to have a target. It’s why I set myself new challenges every few months. It’s hard to keep the momentum going otherwise. Basically I started with 8 stone to lose so it wasn’t going to be a short trip. Pleased I am making progress at the moment but I won’t be happy until I am seeing ‘new’ lowest results.
Living on veg soup or scrambled egg at the moment not ready to tackle anything else.

Gale force winds here, very cold and pretty miserable. Really could do with some sunshine.

    We’ll send you some Jo…
    🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
    G’night P 🌙

Hi Sam199, did you leave the p out of your name by accident…….

    Haha, Amazon!

    Amazon,
I don’t understand the Sam reference, yet Ply seems to have got the joke, did I miss a post?

Hopefully on the mend now with just a few anti-inflamatories. Doctor suggested another couple of days rest and light liquid diet which is no problem. I am studying the rules of Bridge as I plan to start playing weekly. It’s a very complex game but I am up for the challenge. I have also been revising my Spanish and practising my ukelele so there is no time being wasted during convalescence.

Planning shopping for BSD to recommence on Sunday. Busy weekend planned.
Off to bed early again, stupidly tired yet doing very little.

    Keep moving!

    It was sPam, Jo. 😀

    Good morning all.

Amazon, Purple and Ply, I’m still in the dark (have been known to not get jokes before). Has a post been removed?

Glad you’re feeling a little better Jo. I like your comment about not able to be ‘on’ 24/7 so counting Tuesday and yesterday as a blip and now back on track. This morning the scales were down a little from yesterday nonetheless. Like you, at the outset I had lots to lose (40kg or 6.2 stone) and bordering on morbidly obese. Since adopting this WOL I have definitely lost 15kg with another few just misplaced, as one does. The bright spot for me is that without this WOL I’d probably be even heavier than I was.

Purple, have pondered the fitbit calories apparently burnt conundrum for a while and your interesting fitbit comparisons with Mr P add to the mix. I guess however clever the software, it’s not subtle enough to account for individual metabolic differences, even though it can theoretically make adjustments for even slim females having a little higher body fat % than males.

20mm of rain overnight here with 32C predicted for today – another tropical one on the way.

Take care all and keep up the good work. n xxx

Yes Nicky. The post was removed.
You’ve done well..we’ll soon be swapping clothes!
Tell me, are you still doing b2b fasts, or have you switched to the more conventional 2 separate days? I know I find the separate days very effective, by giving me 2 resets a week, to control eating day portions. I know we are all different, but might be worth trying for a month or so.
Fasting today, so, despite the heat, I’m out walking. …and getting blisters!
    Cheers P

    Hi Purple

Based on comments and experiences reported by many here, I changed my weight training day to Tuesday from Wednesday so I have fasted on Mondays and Wednesdays since the end of last year. It’s psychologically better, as we all know, to only have to last until ‘tomorrow’ and I like the fact that Tuesday, while not a FD, is usually a low-cal day with no breakfast and a late high quality lunch so I have plenty of energy left for my 4pm weights session. This year I have found it easier most of the time to stay under my target TDEE and even when indulging like yesterday, I was well under 1200cal for the day.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have no doubt I will get to goal eventually and then maintain. Along the way my hypertension has gone and my blood markers are all good so already reaping some of the benefits.

Hope your blisters are receiving treatment and you found some shade for your walk.

    Cheers, n.

Thanks Nicky…almost at the end of my fast 😀😀
I’m pleased you are finding the new regime working. I, also, find I am not very hungry on Tues and Friday (the day after fasts.) Today was a breeze (kept busy) and the cooler air tonight will allow some sleep.
I hope Jo is ok when she wakes. P

    Morning/evening all,

The plaster isn’t dry yet so no painting until next week 😮
    It’ll be worth waiting for:smile:

No rain this morning but looks grey and murky out there.

Jojo, I hope you are feeling better today and I hope everyone else is OK.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Morning All,

I’ve been reading but not posting as I haven’t got anything to contribute.

I can’t remember who you posted to, Jo, saying that even the most experienced fasters here couldn’t maintain without fasting…not strictly true, at least not for me this week! I’ve been a bit more active and, despite breaking my no bread or added sugar in the week rule, I’m very comfortably in my maintenance range. I’m going to have to eat more, as I do miss fasting…

Amazon, have you been taking before/during/after pictures of the works?

    Jo, hope you’re feeling better?

    Good morning All,
On the mend thanks and the sun is out ( thanks for sending it over PVE) so all is good with the world. Thanks for explaining the posting, I guess we will always attract Spam, it’s good that we all know enough to ignore quick fix options that may harm our bodies. We have fasting and it is scientifically proven to work and be beneficial for us, why try other things.

Another pound down today but I am really, really hungry this morning so I am not fasting today so I am going to have two boiled eggs for breakfast, soup for lunch and fish with veg for dinner. Hopefully my digestion will cope. I have just agreed to play bowls this afternoon as I was first reserve.

Tomorrow I meet the man who plans to rent my flat, he better look after it better than the last one.
Time to walk the dogs before going to Rock Choir, we are performing this weekend. It’s all go here as usual.
NickyF- Keep up the good work, I am in it with you for the long haul. We will get there together, goodness know when though. My health is not helping me. Have you ever tried the three day fast? It was much easier than .i thought it would be.

Amazon- Glad you are getting to the final stages of renovation, we are doing a bathroom soon then a kitchen. Not looking forward to it. I won’t be making cake for my builder, he would walk off site if offered my ‘doorstop’ versions, ha ha!

Have a great day everyone, keep moving, wear those pedometers!

Hi Jo. Good to hear the world is looking rosier. Well done on that pound, but, can I ask, why would you have two eggs, and not just one, for breakfast? One is plenty for anyone. P 🌞🌞

I must admit I used to eat two eggs, P. Two soft boiled eggs…two poached eggs…two hard-boiled eggs in a sandwich.

Sadly, because our girls do lay the finest eggs in the land, I find that one egg is plenty now, and leave two eggs to the men…

OR Jojo, rather the 2 whole eggs have 3 egg whites with seasoning, or fresh herbs a tbls of milk, mix well and microwave…(all the protein is in the whites of the egg)
Total calories: 56 calories (51-cal eggs plus 5-cal for 1-tablespoon skim milk

I usually have this for breakfast with a chopped fresh tomato and basil or coriander OR 1-tablespoon cooked Mexican salsa (5-calories). Substantial and filling and tasty… just an idea….

Pent, whole eggs are a wonderful, perfect food. I wasn’t questioning eggs, but the quantity. One egg with basil and a couple of Tom Thumb tomatoes or perhaps mushrooms, is more than enough for a lovely breakfast. Cutting down quantity, not quality, is the trick. P

    Penti,

As a keeper of hens, I’m afraid I continue to be appalled by your egg white only fetish 🙂

The yolk is undoubtedly the superstar of the egg!

I have to ask – do you buy cartons of egg whites? And if you’re using ‘real’ eggs, what do you do with the 3 egg yolks every day?

Hi my fellow 5:2/4:3 dahlinks….Firstly, I LOVE egg yolks! And NO, there is nowhere to BUY a box of egg whites around here in Portugal(not that I would buy them anyway)Most of us have our own chickens. Any one with a wee spit of grass in their yard has a vegetable garden and chickens …(the cacophony of pre-dawn morning ‘Coq-au-Vin-Wannabe’ roosters is truly eye-opening!)

Portugal is very poor (average income circa 450 euros per month), water is a commodity so everyone grows their own fresh food and raise chickens/goats, gather wild food…pretty cool for me to see all the picked wild food for sale here. At the local markets local pork, sardines/mackerel are all less then 2-euros a kilo.

    But back to egg yolks.

YES, I love egg yolks and 100% prefer my eaten eggs to include them. Yum,Yum; believe you me, I DO! But I’m counting calories with a feverish commitment and I want more FOOD volume in me belly so I’m making some unholy sacrifices… and ONLY for me at this early stage of my 5:2/4:3… the yolks have too many calories for my daily count. C’est la vie, for now.
